The Importance of Presentation in Ecological Education Essay
Environmentalism is an ethical outlook on the world as much as it is a scientific approach to living.
Like any moral philosophy, it can be extremely difficult to enlighten those you see as in the wrong
without offending them. When any individual or group accuses you of personal wrongdoing, recoil is
the easiest natural reaction. Environmentalists are well aware of this, as are ethical vegetarians, those
who donate to charity or volunteer their time with nonprofits and members of the Peace Corps. If
somebody tells you in an aggressive or condescending manner that your way of life is damaging,
unethical, idiotic, ignorant, unintelligent or reckless, chances are that you would take offense and not
heed their advice. Few who truly take the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that wisdom, not cleverness, is the proper aim of all true learning and that human ignorance
is not an entirely solvable problem; it is, rather, an inescapable part of the human condition (Orr, 2002,
p. 39). As teachers and future teachers it is our duty to not only instill in our students the factual
knowledge and technical skills they need to succeed in the world, but also to teach them to consider
carefully the consequences of their actions. What happens to the metal cans from the two energy
drinks that student consumes daily? What happens to their bodies from drinking that filth? Students do
not think about these things often because they are not taught in any setting to think ecologically. How
we can get students or any other members of our society to think ecologically is not something Orr
dives particularly deeply into, however. There is a culture not just in the United States but also in most
of the industrial world of rampant consumerism. We love objects and we love buying and owning
useless things. We are all guilty of it to some extent. It shames me personally to admit that there is an
unusually high proportion of plastic in my home. Plastic is just what things are made of, because
ecological problems tend to take a backseat to economics. Ecological problems are often unintended,
unforeseen, and sometimes ironic side effects of actions arising from other intentions (Orr, 2002, p.
13). As teachers we are going to

The Dangers Of Mass Shootings
Mass Shootings
There is no question that mass shootings are happening more frequently. The question is are they
happening to often? They have become more common, but have always been a problem in the world.
Shootings have been happening since the invention of guns, but as we come closer to our era mass
shootings have been happening more regularly. These shootings need to be stopped and put an end to.
But how can we as a whole all come together and put an end to it? The statistics and facts that are
going to be used give valid reasons to where the shootings take place, how it happens and the number
of casualties and lives taken from these shootings.
Mass shootings have recently become more frequent and more deadly over the years. Living in the
U.S. we have lived through at least fifty years of mass shootings and a variation of tragedies. A mass
shooting is when a gunman shoots or kills four or more people in the same general time and location.
The three most deadly shootings that have occurred in the U.S. in the past ten years are Las Vegas
attack (at least 58 killed), Virgina Tech massacre (32 killed), Orlando nightclub shooting(49 dead)
(Willingham). These shootings exemplify the lack of control that we have over guns and the type of
people that have possession of the guns. If we want to try to control the type of people who can own a
gun, then the government should keep updated on the people who buy bigger guns with more rounds
and do mental background checks. The researchers also found that most mass murderers suffered from
some mental instability, though they usually weren t flagged by mental health specialists or law
enforcement. And military style rifles were used in 18 of the 66 mass public shootings in the most
recent 15 year period the researchers studied (Shastry, Anjali). If a person has possession a military
style rifle that should automatically redflag the government. Some of the main reasons that these
things happen are because the government or law enforcement don t keep tabs on these people. Media
today plays a big part in the mass shootings believe it or not. Media contagion is largely responsible
for the increase in these often deadly outbursts (Media Contagion). By showing the number

Fatigue
Fatigue is a form of failure that can occur in dental prostheses (e.g. implants and partial dentures) and
appliances (e.g. braces) that are subjected to dynamic and fluctuating stresses that are lower than the
yield strength. All materials in the mouth will be under repeated random stresses due to mastication,
parafunctional loading, swallowing and clenching. These forces of parafunctional activity may create
enough stress to initiate a crack in a defect and start the fatigue process. Most factures in dental
prostheses and appliances (90%) occur after many years due to fatigue failure, and are usually
unrelated to a single event of acute overload (Wiskott HW 1995). Causes of failure are multifactorial
but understanding the mechanism of failure can help the dentist with treatment plans regarding
restoration design and material selection. This will reduce costs for both patient and dentist in the long
run since the full service life of the restoration will be utilised.
In brittle materials, fatigue crack initiation occurs at a stress concentration due to a microdefect on the
surface or within the material of the restoration. In metals and alloys, where there are no macroscopic
or microscopic discontinuities, the crack initiation can begin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In osseointegrated implants, macroscopic analysis shows that crack initiation tends to occur near the
bores (holes) on the side surface. Thus although bores promote osseointegration, they also act as stress
intensifiers, which aids the fatigue process. Another region of stress concentration on the implant is
the interface between the screw and the abutment so during stress intensification, the portion of the
implant that is under tensile strength is more likely to initiate a crack when the applied load is cyclic
and high. Shear stresses also reach a maximum at this interface and can rotate the whole implant along
its long axis (Felli, F

Nat Turner, An Abolisionist Essay
Nat Turner was born in October 2, 1800, on Benjamin Turner s plantation in Southampton County,
Virginia. His father was also a slave of Benjamin Turner s and was believed to have successfully
escaped and lived his life in the Great Dismal Swamp in southern Virginia and North Carolina. His
mother was a slave named Nancy who used to live in Africa but was taken in 1763. Nat Turner was
highly intelligent and imaginative even from early childhood, and his mother thought that he was
destined for great things. He was overheard describing events that even happened before he was born,
so the other slaves believed that he was destined to become a religious prophet. Nat Turner was a very
religious slave who had many visions and led a rebellion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

plan that he had to four men that he trusted; Henry, Hark, Nelson, and Sam. They planned for the
rebellion to be on July 4, but it had to be postponed because Turner became ill. On August 13, the sun
appeared bluish green, which was the final sign, and on August 21, Turner and six of his men met and
made plans in the woods. At 2:00 in the morning, they went to the Travis household, and they killed
the entire family. They proceeded to kill all the white people they encountered as they went from
house to house. As they went, more slaves joined them, and the force eventually consisted of more
than 40 slaves, mostly on horseback. At midday of the next day, Turner decided that they should go to
Jerusalem, which was the closest town. The word of the rebellion reached to the whites at this point,

An Ironic Reversal of Professional Perspective in Medical Ethics
An Ironic Reversal of Professional Perspective in Medical Ethics
The movie The Doctor captures the shortcomings of a mechanized health care industry. Dr. Jack
McKee is a gifted, however, arrogant, and self centered surgeon who cares little about the emotional
welfare of his patients; treating them with a callous attitude, and examining them as specimen. Out of
the four models of physician/patient relationship, Dr. McKee exemplified the Paternalistic model, the
least ideal model for physician/patient interactions. He makes decisions for the patient ... Show more

It also goes against the requirement of a medical committee member to promote education regarding
medical ethical matters and also to assess and provide patient care by demonstrating a respect for
patient rights. However, despite Dr. McKeen s callous attitude towards his patients, I believe he would
follow the principle of beneficence, a supporting theory about the value of avoiding harm and helping
others. Although he treated his patients in a lackadaisical manner, he demonstrated his gifted surgical
abilities with the ultimate goal to heal them. Even when he is diagnosed with cancer and scheduled to
receive radiation therapy, he s concerned about missing his scheduled surgeries and continues to go to
work despite his sickness. In the beginning of the movie, Dr McKee was an egoist. Even though he
performed the kind actions of operating on people and saving their lives, he was only acting in his
own interest. He didn t actually care about the patients. On his way walking into a scheduled
operation, he stated A surgeon s job is to cut. Caring is all about time. I d rather cut straight, and care
less. He believed he had a right to his own interest, which was to do his job, and care only about his
interests, which is exactly how egoists think. Towards the end of the film, he turns into

Smart phones allow us to not only talk and text on the phone, but also various other duties that a
computer would such as check emails, send documents, browse the Internet, and find locations. With
the allure of smart phones comes the catch of now transmitting personal and confidential information
into our phones, allowing unwanted users or hackers to view our data without our consent. In addition,
there was a time when the typewriter was the only machine used for data entry, but in present day, we
have laptops, desktop computers, and also netbooks. With these fancy gadgets, Web 2.0 had also been
created. In our text, we read that Web 1.0 was the ability to perform read only but with the creation of
Web 2.0, we are able to read and write (Bowles, 2010). This notion is shown on our social networks as
we post statuses of how we feel or where we are going, or what we are doing. Little do we know, that
with every pro comes a con. By inputting our information on such sites as Facebook, Twitter, or
Blogger, we subject ourselves to a lifetime of invasion of privacy. No matter how many letters or
words we type, edit or delete on these sites, they are stamped in the World Wide Web indefinitely.
Lastly, with the allure of virtual reality and being able to plug in and experience what it s like to be

The Impact Of Television On The Television Industry Essay
Whilst much of television s history has relied on specific industrial practices established early in the
1960s, the turn of the century has introduced significant changes to the medium of television. The
current position of television, defined by Lotz as the post network era, illustrates an evolution from
these early industry practices. For the most part, scholars agree that this transition was caused by
changes in the industrial norms of producing, financing, and distributing television, many of which
can be attributed to the arrival of digital technologies. This essay will argue that these changes
throughout the television industry have created a new, distinctive era of television culture.
First and foremost, Lotz provides valuable insight into the distinguishable eras of television
development. The resulting three eras are defined as the network era, multi channel transition and post
network era (7). The network era , which spanned roughly from the early 1950s to the mid 1980s,
governed industry operations and created a television experience which characterizes much of the
medium s history. This era was characterized by adapting radio network modes of content creation,
distribution, advertising, and audience measurement to the context of the then new televisual medium.
Dominated by a three network oligopoly network system comprised of ABC, NBC and CBS critics
have often condemned the network era as bland due to its strict censorship and limited creative

The Redemption Cycle In Cry, The Beloved Country By Alan...
I will make darkness light before them and crooked things straight. These things I will do unto them
and not forsake them Isaiah 42:16. God promises to be there for His people as long as one believes in
Him. The Kumalo family lives in a poor colored city in South Africa where they are constantly
surrounded by the brokenness of the world. Knowing God will not forsake them helps one with
building a strong connection with him. It is through this faith that Stephen, a priest, and devoted
father, is able to find hope in the dark world he faces. Throughout the book Cry, the Beloved Country
by Alan Paton the flawed main character, Stephen Kumalo is able to go through the redemption cycle
because of his relationship with God.
Stephen is able to complete the redemption cycle when he sins, exhibits his flaws, against his sister
Gertrude because of his strong connection with Christ and his willingness to seek help from God.
Stephen is hurt by his sister s action and proceeds to let his anger out at her when he confronts her:
you have shamed us...a liquor seller, a prostitute, with a child...how could you do this to us? (Paton
61). When encountering his sister cry from his actions he immediately finds himself ashamed and
repents. Stephen turns to God and prays for him and Gertrude, God forgives us...Who am I not to

Short Story Sleep Within The Elephant Vanishes By Mularakami
The Elephant Vanishes is a collection of Murakami s early stories; within two of his short stories, one
may find loss and aging, and reality and the well of the unconscious. While three of his novels will
contain memory and music, time and timelessness, and melancholy and longing for a special time and
place.
The short story, Sleep within the Elephant Vanishes, captures Loss and Aging. The narrator, a thirty
year old wife and mother, who is plagued with insomnia, goes through a series of loss and Aging.
While she looses sleep, she notes that in the beginning of her insomnia, she had time to look at herself
and reflect upon her life and her body. She realized that she does not want to turn out like her mother,
she used to be slim, lovely woman, but not anymore (pp.80). She seems to tell her story as someone
who lost herself in exchanging for marrying a not so handsome man and having his son. As the story
progresses and the narrator spends more time on activities, such as swimming, and she soon sees the
improvement in her feminine figure. I was amazed to discover that my body appeared to be almost
bursting with vitality (pp.97). With giving up sleep she had gained what she had lost. She seemed to

Salmonella is a group of rod shaped gram negative bacteria, which causes a foodborne illness called
salmonellosis. Salmonella germs have been known to cause illness for over 100 years. The Salmonella

The National Impact of Barbie Dolls on Young Girls Beauty standards differ around the world. In the
Maasai tribes of Africa, having piercings and colorful intricate jewelry is considered beautiful. In
China, women try and avoid sunlight in hopes of having the lightest, fairest skin. In Mexico, it is
considered beautiful to have long black wavy hair. However, the standard of beauty that seems to be
consistent around the world is having a thin, tight figure and a proportionate face. This standard has

However, in reality, the body proportions of Barbie are unreachable and unhealthy. In the article Does
Barbie make girls want to be thin, a quote from psychologists in the American Psychological
Association reads, The ultrathin female beauty ideal she embodies has been linked with the
extraordinary prevalence of negative body image and unhealthy eating patterns among girls and
women, (Thompson 283). Referring to the Barbie doll, Thompson makes it clear that the image of the
Barbie dolls gives young girls a negative self body image and can result in many young girls having
eating disorders. The constant goal to have a thin, tiny figure with long legs and a bigger chest is
simply unachievable. In the article Does Barbie make girls want to be thin, people were able to use
anthropometry to use Barbie s body proportions, and compare them to the realistic image of a woman.
A conclusion reached by Rintala and Mustajoki of the British Medical Journal revealed, Were Barbie a

Teenage Underage Drinking
In this day and age, underage drinking is very much rampant among teenagers ages 12 years old to 17

Because of these traits, the generation of teens is very much likely to indulge in alcohol drinking. This
is an issue that must be addressed for it possess a threat to the present generation and the generations

A teenager on his or her crucial stages of development, have not fully developed the skill of decision
making. Thus pressure one feels from peers and the persistent exposure to the act can cause the
individual to eventually indulge in underage drinking for social acceptance. The struggle to fit in is
always a constant issue amongst our teenagers in this generation. And underage drinking has been a
status qualifier that signifies a person s dominance and liberation. This is why most peers would
encourage themselves to engage in such habits. Apart from that, without proper guidance and
supervision from parents or guardians, teenagers most likely are at risk to engage in underage
drinking. Without the reinforcement, they will grow up to believe that such habit is a form of mere
socialization and not a fatal grip for their future. Guidance is truly relevant. Without it, one day you
may realize the effect of underage drinking is very much morbid or worse, irreversible. Lastly, a
negative family environment is truly a major factor that molds a teen s young mind into what is
socially acceptable and what is not. If alcohol drinking is freely displayed at home, then this kind of
notion is most likely hardwired on the teenagers subconscious mind causing him/her to be very much
okay with the set up. A negative family environment will most likely cause the individual to engage in
negative coping mechanisms: such as underage drinking. Based on the data the researchers have

Diversity Of A New Rocket Ship
The topic of diversity is an ever growing discussion to encourage inclusion of different people,
cultures, and backgrounds into the global marketplace. In my issue paper, I will explore the idea of
diversity, its benefits, and how it can be included within key sectors of the business world. Diversity is
an important factor to the business place that allows employees and customers to interact with
companies that value their background as an essential part of their business plan company culture.
There are a myriad of benefits that diversity brings can bring to a company but most of my readings
reflected on three main ideas of driving innovation, bettering recruitment, and capturing the global
market. Diversity of race, gender, and social view can increase innovation and creativity. How does
diversity do this? When different people are brought together to complete a task or solve a problem,
they are bringing different information, perspective, and opinions. The need for diversity of expertise
is obvious: the building of a new rocket ship requires the expertise of designers, engineers, and quality
control experts. But informational diversity brings unique dimensions and experiences to thinking
through a task. Oftentimes being with those that are similar to us can lead us to think that we hold the
same details and information or share the same perspective, which hinders creativity and innovation.
Being in diverse groups can lead us to asking more questions and more

Descriptive Essay On Hippie Fishing
Crappie fishing; to most, bring visions of cool spring mornings with fog lingering over the surface of
the lake and burning off shortly after rigging a bobber and a minnow to cast to a brush pile and wait
for the Crappie to find your bait. Classic Crappie fishing to be sure and very effective to say the least,
as many of you, like myself, grew up fishing this way almost exclusively. Crappie angling has
changed and progressed into a very technical endeavor and crankbaits is one of those techniques that
works great when crappie begin the fall migration to shallow water following the shad. When the
leaves begin to turn each season, shad begin swimming the shorelines in large schools providing slab
crappie some opportunities to fatten up for the winter. It is during this time that small crankbaits
resembling these shad work great at luring those slabs from shallow cover. Rip rap and chunk rock
banks attract shad as well as big crappie chasing those shad. A single tree along that rock bank can
create an ambush point for big crappie and will replenish so returning to that cover throughout the day
can prove rewarding. My favorite crankbait is any that resembles a shad. Smaller crankbaits seem to
work best but I have switched to a larger crankbait with good results when the shad is big; however,
small crankbaits is your best choice for consistent bites. Color always comes up in conversations
pertaining to crappie. Personally, I use shad colors, but crawfish patterns and bright

Historical Analysis of Witch Hunts in Comparison to Crucible
Deep in each one of us is an innate fear, not just of the unknown, but also of the supernatural. There
have been multiple occasions in history, when that fear has manifested and become like an epidemic
and spread like wildfire. The most famous in popular opinion is the witch hunts of Salem,
Massachusetts. Despite its fame, Salem is not the only one of its kind. Had Salem ever been slightly
connected to the world around it this little instance could have been much worse. The fact of the
matter is that hysteria such as that of witchcraft can happen anywhere; For example Salem was just an
ordinary town yet its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hunts were led by Nicholas Remy an elite magistrate and law scholar. His predecessor Jean Bodin
was the first person to make witchcraft illegal and Nicholas Remy used that to justify the torture and
persecution of persons convicted of witchcraft. The actual number of witches killed in Lorraine is
unknown. Courts think that approximately one hundred and twenty five were brought before the court
(William 2007). Strangely enough, Connecticut is the place where America s first witch was accused.
They believed that Mary Johnson was conjuring something satanic by using a spell. This occurs fifty
years before the Salem witch trials. It was the most ferocious in New England. At least thirty four men
and women across the nation were accused of witchcraft. Eleven were even hanged. In new haven,
William Meeker was accused of cutting off and burning his pig s ears and tail as he cast a bewitching
spell (Boynton 2014). Germany has a few of the worsts witch hunts in history. An expert in the field
named Friedrich Forner was an architect of the Catholic faith in Bamberg, Germany. He led the wave
against witchcraft and is renowned for his book on witchcraft as well as a few others. This literary
work sheds light on the logical approach he has to the problems involving witchcraft. The witch trials
in Bamberg took place from the 1626 until 1631. It ended in the deaths and executions of between
three hundred and six hundred people. Those accused of witchcraft were not just killed but tortured.

How Did Steam Boats Impact The World
People strongly believe steam boats had a positive outcome to our world. Steam boats were invented
during the industrial revolution and are still being used till this very day. The invention of steam boats
has been highly successful not just for the economy but society as well. Profits and travel has rapidly
increased ever since the steam boat was created during the industrial revolution. Manpower was no
longer needed to be used and steam was officially the source to success by powering the engine of the
steam boat. Steamboats are one of the most popular boats to this very day and is an astonishing way of
transportation of goods and people. Steam boats were definitely a positive impact to the world, and
had made a gigantic profit to communities and businesses. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Robert first begun as a painter working for cordial which was a very famous drink company at the
time, they would show none of his style and rarely use his paintings. After retiring from painting, he
became interested in both steam engines and boats. In 1802 Fulton Livingston met Robert, who then
agreed to help in the creation of steam boats. They ordered their first engine in 1803 but it was not
allowed to be exported until 1806 as it needed to be tested for safety and development conditions.
After the creation of the boat was approved to set sail, they went on a voyage from New York city to
Albany. They then named their ship Clermont which carried over 100 passengers each voyage, mostly
from New York city and Albany. It broke the record of traveling 40 miles in the time period of 8 hours
during the industrial revolution. This invention was a huge success during the industrial revolution as

Beals realized the big necessity to implement Japanese techniques programs in production for better
quality products.
Giving more responsibility to workers at these facilities gave a high value for Quality before Quantity.
Employee involvement was a key issue in product improvement because the line workers knew much
better than management what was right or wrong with the production, their contribution to decision
making became vital issue.
Quality Circles as mentioned above was the key to success for better involvement of employees with
management better setting of goals related to qualified products.
Also MAN (Materials As Needed) program was expected to improve the quality because lower
inventory levels would make quality problems more apparent and force employees to take faster
action
SOC gave employees the chance to measure quality and make recommendations for changes essential
for quality improvement. It was one of the most important key issues in improving the quality level of
production and take precautions on time against quality problems.
Results of these PRODUCTION CHANGE Programs implemented between 1981 1988 were:
Inventory Reduced by 67 percent
Productivity up by 50 percent
Scrap and Rework down to two thirds (2/3rds)
Defects per unit down 70 percent

The Exploitation Of The Natural Environment
Despite the fact that efforts were made in the past to entrench the rights of the people, people are still
born into a miserable life with no possibilities of escaping of poverty, while others may inherit
fortunes and financial freedom empires. Inequality, like the gap between the rich and the poor, has
never been as critical as it is a present. Unfortunately, the future does not appear to be bright if the
degrading activities of the natural environment continues(7), the expanding shortage of resources,
overpopulation especially in under developing countries as well as the apathy of the majority of the
world brings even worse issues of poverty.
Many under developed countries are trapped in poverty because of the shortage of raw materials,
being forced to resort to trade in order support themselves, as well as overexploitation of the limited
resources they posses. Unable to implement eco friendly technologies in the production processes and
therefore force to use hazardous and cheap methods of production, which is contributed further
degradation of the environment. For instance, many suffer from poverty live on soil that is not fertile;
as a consequence, they are forced to resort to intensive farming. This practice is damaging to the
environment and furthermore, these people do not have the financial means to improve the
technologies they use in agriculture or basis infrastructure in this aspect. As a result, they can only
produce low and insufficient quantities of food in

York Security Threats
NFC Security Concerns
Security is an important part of any technology that is developed in the system. The wireless
technologies have greater security threats. Similarly, the Near Field Communication technology users
also have some security concerns. Information, and authentication security is the two most important
concerns of any technology. Let s list the NFC security threats,
 Eavesdropping: Eavesdropping takes place when an unauthorized person tries to listen to the NFC
signals using an antenna (Paganini). In short, eavesdropping is tracking the NFC signals illegally. o
Solution: Firstly, eavesdropping attack can be minimized by setting the NFC devices at a fair distance.
When the NFC devices are placed within a close proximity, an unauthorized person will not get
enough signals to intercept (Paganini). Therefore, NFC signals between the devices will be free from
threats. The information is encrypted before transmission at the transmitter end and is decrypted ...

The attacker tries to modify the data which is transmitted in binary format (Paganini). Usually, RF
jammer is used in the process. o Solution: Extremely secure channel should be setup between the
devices which must have secure shell for the private network. Some NFC enabled devices have
capability to listen to the RF signals on the NFC network. When an attacker attacks through a RF
device, the differences in RF signals are detected by the NFC transmitter and it stops data transmission
(Haselsteine and Breitfuß).
 Data Corruption: This attack is similar to the data modification attack, but the data is not only
modified, but also destroyed, lost sometimes. The receiver may not receive the data. Strong radio
signals are applied by the attacker which affects the data transmission signals. Thus, the receiver does
not receive the accurate data, or any data

Comparing Enkidu And Gilgamesh
The Importance of Enkidu and Gilgamesh to One Another By creating an alluring character plot of
both Enkidu and Gilgamesh, the development of the characters must be projected throughout the story,
displaying growth and maturity with the use of external interactions. Because the author allows
Gilgamesh and Enkidu to interact with a multitude of characters in this particular epic, the story line
has the potential to grow. Such decisions also mold the major characters essentially their thoughts,

Gilgamesh losing his companionship with a dear friend, it shows the audience Gilgamesh s growth

Enkidu s death, Gilgamesh viewed himself as invincible. Due to his immortal [physical]
characteristics, he looked over the idea that one day he might produce a shred of emotion for another
being. Although with the death of his dear friend, Gilgamesh falls into a deep depression and comes to
terms with his true self. Gilgamesh displays his growth in the epic by not returning to his old ways due
to this tragic event, but instead, continuing his quest to defy the laws of fate. Gilgamesh cries out,
How can I rest, how can I be at peace? Despair is in my hart. What my brother is now, that shall I be

Quantitative Study Of Heat And Enthalpy Changes
PART A
Thermochemistry is the quantitative study of heat and enthalpy changes in chemical reactions.
Enthalpy (H) ... is a measure of the total energy possessed by a substance or group of substances.
(Smith 2006, pp. 289). The change in enthalpy (∆H) of a substance is defined as the heat absorbed or
released during a chemical reaction.
A car motor works by converting petrol, also known as chemical energy, to kinetic energy, therefore
assisting with the movement of a car.
A chemical reaction, known as combustion, occurs in the car motor. A combustion reaction consists of
a hydrocarbon reacting with oxygen (O2) to give the products carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O).
A hydrocarbon is a compound consisting simply of Hydrogen (H2) and Carbon (C), methane (CH4)
and diesel (C12H23) are examples of a hydrocarbon. The chemical equation for a combustion reaction
is as follows: Hydrocarbon + Oxygen  Carbon Dioxide + Water. The combustion reaction of
methane (CH4) is: CH4 (g) + 2O2 (g)  CO2 (g) + 2H2O (l), the combustion reaction of ethane is:
2C2H6 (g) + 7O2 (g)  4 CO2 (g) + 6 H2O (l) and the combustion reaction for butane is 2C4H10 (g)
+13O2 (g)  8CO2 (g) +10H2O (g). If combustion takes place internally, the engine is referred to as
an internal combustion engine. A diesel engine is an example of this. Internal combustion engines
convert the chemical energy in fuel to mechanical energy via an exothermic reaction.
An internal combustion engine, mainly consists of a

Jungle Fever, The Answer is in Black and White
In America, we are known as the melting pot, the country of diversity, where citizens can be who they
want to be. We can be who we want to be, and look at ourselves however we want to; but how are
others looking at us? In many cases, an individual does not even have a chance to make an impression
on somebody, because they have already been judged simply by their physical aspects. The
controversy of one s color has been around since the beginning of time. In the history of the United
States, the racism against African American s has put them through much oppression, and many walls
have been built up over the years between African Americans and other ethnic groups. As a result of
the barrier between these ethnic groups, the movie Jungle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see an example of this when Drew yells at Flipper, saying the issue is your so black you have a
problem! Gaitor also belittles black when he says that he swears before God and white people when
claiming he will not ask for money. In this statement Gaitor is saying that white people are sacred, and
they are basically above everyone else and can be compared to God. Drew and her friends realize after
they find that Flipper has been unfaithful that they are loosing all of their black men. One of Drew s
friends states that there aint a good black man out there , which is a major symbolic shot to the
labeling of African American s. African Americans may look down on themselves because they are a
minority group in America compared to white people. According to Henslin a minority group s
physical or cultural traits are held in low esteem by the dominant group, who treats them unfairly
(266). Flipper s father talks of the white women, or the dominant group as being a pure race compared
to other races. White women are seen in his eyes as very high up on the social status, with much
power.
The reason many people in America today, as well as in the movie are racist is because this is how
they were brought up, by the labels they were taught to live by. Past generations were exposed to
segregation between ethnic groups, which has greatly carried on to how people look at others today.
Up until 1967 it was prohibited for blacks to marry white people in 38 states

Social Pressure From Family And Time Spent On Aerobic...
Also, Figure 2 displays the link between perceived social pressure from family and time spent
participating in aerobic exercise per week. The relationship between these two variables was very
weak and insignificant, r(206)= .04, p=.558, as summarized in Table 1. The threshold significant p
value for data is p .05. From our data, we can conclude that the weak correlation between social
pressure from family and the amount of time spent on aerobic exercise is likely due to chance and is
therefore insignificant. Lastly, Figure 3 shows the connection between social pressure from important
figures in the participant s life and the amount of time spent on aerobic exercise. The link between our
independent and dependent variable here was positive and weak, r(206)= .17, p=.013, as summarized
in Table 1. Although the relationship between social pressure from important figures in the participant
s life and time spent on aerobic exercise is weak, this finding is significant. Since our calculated p
value from our Pearson s correlation test was very small, our positive correlational finding was not
likely due to chance. Therefore we can loosely state that as social pressure from important figures in
the participant s life increases, amount of time spent on aerobic exercise also increases. Discussion
Due to how often young people attend social events and functions, we predicted that social pressure
would be a key indicator for our participants exercise habits. We

The Role Of Technology In The Early 20th Century
Jillian Garrett
History 1493
Professor Hanshew
19 June 2015
Research Paper Technology in the early 20th century grew quickly and brought many changes to life
both at home and in work. Automobiles, home appliances, and entertainment changed how Americans
spent their time and money. During the early to mid 20th century America went through an
economical depression, two wars, and recessions, this caused many Americans to go through stages of
poverty, fear, and wealth. The advancement of technology did not come without downfalls including
pollution, debt, and change in moral beliefs. In 1903 the Ford Motor Company was founded in
Detroit, Michigan. Tames describes, when Henry Ford began producing vehicles his aim was to turn

Safety regulations were not originally in use when automobiles were first on the road which led to the
invention of traffic lights, cat s eyes, and painting of lines in the road to assist drivers. Vehicles have
come a long way since their introduction into American society and they continue to change as newer
technology grows. At the turn of the century many homes were cleaned by hand, food was prepared in
stoves, and children played in sitting rooms or outside. Technology allowed for changes to be made in
the home over the course of just a few years with the introduction of toasters, refrigerators, televisions,
and vacuum cleaners. Cooking for the household became easier with the advancements of gas and
eventually electric ranges. Busch describes how the shift from gas range to electric range was
beneficial as the units were smaller allowing more space in the kitchen, there was better temperature
control, and oven heat control and exterior coolness since older gas ranges lacked oven thermostats
and insulation. Refrigerators had been around for years, but were large and took up much of the room
in a kitchen. Isenstadt states, Electric refrigerators in the 1920s and 1930s were seen as a large step
toward modernization of the home. Shortly after this time customization of refrigerators became
popular and with advances in the electrical components involved the units became smaller. In 1908
advertisements became popular for upright vacuum

Both Jane Addams and Saul Alinsky, worked to enact social change within the poor neighborhoods of
Chicago. Both would also go on to inspire many other social changes due to their methodologies and
accomplishments. However, Addams and Alinsky s approaches to bring about social change are often
described as being polar opposites. One could argue though, that despite these superficial differences,
Addams and Alinsky shared a commonality that is not often talked about. Jane Addams started the

This falls back to Alinsky s do anything to win mentality and win he did. The BYNC housed the infant
station and the Chicago Settlement never regained its footing within the community. Alinsky had
again proved the effectiveness of his methods (Hamington, 2010). Addams and Alinsky appear to have
very different organizing philosophies. Alinsky himself often commented how his methods were so
different than those of the settlement houses. These comments however, should have been more
directed at what the settlement houses had become and not at the originating principles of Jane
Addams Hull House. Jane Addams herself would likely disapprove of the direction that the settlement
houses had moved towards. Addams and Alinsky both recognized the importance of listening and
learning the needs of the community in order to gain perspective. Addams recognized that when
existing social institutions do not provide a reasonable means for citizen participation, those citizens
will organize to resist... Similarly, Alinsky viewed his organizations as fully democratic [stating]: This
kind of organization can be built only if people are working together for real, attainable objectives
(Hamington, 2010). The connections between the philosophies of Addams and Alinsky are
inextricably linked. The resonance between the social philosophies of Addams and Alinsky is not
surprising if the Chicago School connection is taken into account. Addams and Hull House helped

The Market of Rental Units
Rental Units are the large part of USA housing market. Nearly one third of American households rent,
and over 14 percent of households live in a rental apartments. The following chart list that 35% of
population rents, which does not seem much in comparison to 65% of house owners but they also
contribute a lot to this society. Multifamily housing has high potential for energy savings through
retrofits, but the lack of data on best practices and historical cost savings has weakened investment.
Data related to energy efficiency, utilities and construction is really difficult to obtain for a building, as
many multifamily owners and operators never benchmark the energy performance of their building.
This critical shortage of information about building energy performance has prevented property
markets from valuing energy efficiency and severely undermined both public and private efforts to
increase the energy efficiency of multifamily housing. This has really affected the development of
energy efficient and green policies in multi family building. Green building is about improving our
design and construction practices so that the multifamily homes we build today will last longer, cost
less to operate, and won t harm the health of workers and residents. It is also about protecting natural

by the enemy much more difficult. This tactic was called the turtle attack . The main tactic used in this
war was trickery. The Greeks won the war using this which I will tell you about later. Weapons used in
the war Some weapons used in the war were the spear, sword, and shield. The spear was 8.8 feet long

The Radio Frequency Identification ( Rfid )
Introduction As technology advances, businesses use technology to improve the efficiency of their
operations. Such is the case with the Radio frequency identification (RFID) in the health care industry.
These devices are very affordable to acquire and are currently used to track resources, patients,
doctors and expensive equipment. RFID helps with the collection of information for patients with lack
of communication or people with serious conditions. (Hu, 2015) With hospitals finding different way
to attract new patients in, these devices also help hospitals save money on the management side to
keep them afloat. This advanced technology has great potential to improve patient experience in
healthcare by taking away human error out of the equation.
Literature Review RFID uses electromagnetic fields to automatically identify and track tags attach to
objects. These tags contain electronically stored information. The information can be read by RFID
readers and can only be read if they are within the line of sight of the reader. There are two types or
RFID tags; passive and active. Passive RFID relies on RF energy transferred from the reader to the tag
to power the tag. Active RFID uses an internal power source, such as a battery within the tag to
continuously power the tag and its RF communication circuitry. The information is transfer efficiently
and automatically without human intervention. (Yao, 2012) RFIDs can be used the 5 areas that are

Sacroiliac Joint Essay
1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Balance is the ability to move or remain in a position without losing control or falling. Balance is an
action done without active consideration, but it is vital for locomotion and maintenance of an upright
posture. When balance is impaired it may have detrimental effects. The sacroiliac joint (SIJ) is a key
element in an upright posture and locomotion. Subluxations in the SIJ are common in a large percent
of the population, and may be symptomatic or asymptomatic in nature. These subluxations can cause a
number of symptoms including lower back pain, leg length inequality and dysfunction in standing,

Study 2 was conducted to determine if proprioception would be improved by manual manipulation of
the SIJ or through full body vibration, via the use of a power plate. The results concluded that there
was an improvement in balance in the group, who received the vibration power plate, as well as the
combination group and the group that received only the chiropractic adjustment therapy. (Landman,

was concluded that this treatment should become a treatment regime for patients with gait
abnormalities. (Schooling, 2012)

Federal Balance
Background The Commonwealth has primarily relied on s 51(xxxv) of the Constitution for its
industrial relations laws. However, the they wanted to expand their legislative power by relying on
s51(xx), the corporations power, to circumvent the limitations of s51(xxxv). Facts In December 2005,
the Howard government enacted the WorkChoices Act in reliance on the corporations power, which
affected 85% of employees. The States and trade unions challenged its constitutional validity, however
in a 5:2 decision, the High Court found the Act to be valid in is entirety by adopting the object of

of a corporation and the activities of those whose conduct may affect corporations. Kirby and Callinan

signal from the Trig and Echo pins were connected to an oscilloscope through different channels and
the amplitude and timing were compared. It could be seen that signal for the Trig has amplitude of 5V
and occurs immediately before the Echo , which had an amplitude of ≈ 2V. The Echo pin normally
produces a voltage of 5V, but with the addition of the 1k resistor, the output voltage is lowered to
about 2V. The resistor is there to protect the GPIO pins

The Importance Of Student In School
In school I have always been a relatively successful student, and I was always considered one of the
smarter kids by my parents and a lot of the other students. In about sixth grade when they started to
split the grade up into certain classes for the advanced kids and the kids that weren t considered
advanced. I was in the classes with all the kids that weren t considered advanced. At the time though, I
didn t realize what they were doing or that I wasn t actually considered a smart kid by the school, I
just knew all my friends were in classes I wasn t in, and it really upset me. I got put in the classes with
a bunch of kids I didn t like, or just people I didn t know, and had never seen before. I still had the bus
where I got to see a few of my friends, but other than that, they just weren t around. All of fourth grade
year I hadn t struggled at all, and everything came relatively easy to me. It was just really easy. I knew
I wasn t a dumb kid, but up until then my parents had always had to help me. They carried me through
school, they had just been my own personal teacher and were always there if I needed any help at all.
This was definitely weird to me that I didn t need them anymore that year. About half way through the
school year, I was talking to one of my friends about school and how easy it had been going so far this
year. He then started telling me how hard he thought it was and how he was really struggling, I just
kind of blew it off, and was thinking he

How Important Was the Role of Women During Wwi Essay
How important was the role of women during world war 1
The early rush of volunteers and later the conscription of men led to a shortage of manpower on the
home front. Women, already working in munitions factories were encouraged to take on jobs normally
done by men. This was the start of major social change. Before the war, women had been content to
stay at home to bring up the family and do domestic work. It was considered unbecoming for a woman
to work. During the war it was considered unpatriotic not to. Many changes came about as shown by
the quote from A. J. P Taylor English History Women became more independent. Women paid for
their round at the pub. Fashion changed for practical reasons : never again did skirts sweep the ...

Other women joined the forestry corps and felled trees in shipbuilding and other industries. At the start
of the war almost the entire staff of the Glasgow Corporation tramways left to form a special battalion
of the Highland Light Infantry. Glasgow got its first females clippies in April 1915, followed more
slowly by Manchester and London. Women also became train drivers and greasers of the railways.
When the war was over most of the women left, or were forced to leave, the paid employment which
they had taken. Despite this the war had brought a significant change to their life s. They began to do
things the normally had never done before such as wear trousers and smoke in public. After the second
world war their daughter proved to be much tougher to remove from their jobs. The war gave women,
who weren t yet allowed to vote, the chance to show that they were equal to men. It forced many men
to change the way they regarded women. More people realized that women could make a contribution
in the workplace as well as at home. The first World War could be said to have begun the movement
for equal opportunities for men and women. In conclution the part played by women during WW1 was
huge, If it wasn t for the womans land army the country could have starved. Without the munitioned
factorys the war could have been lost and without the transprt the country could have came to a stand

Equal Pay Day Research Paper
Equal Pay Day this year is Tuesday, April 12, 2016. The National Committee on Pay Equity started
this day to act as a constant reminder of how women are still victims of wage inequality. It is very
important to remember how women are still discriminated against, and how the pay gap hasn t been
getting better. Equal Pay Day is always on a Tuesday because it represents, how far into the next work
week women must work to earn what men earned the previous week (pay equity.org). Many women
who work the same hours as men are paid less, and are forced to work longer hours to have a
substantial income. In 2010, women were making only 77 cents on average for every dollar men
made, and the wage gap is even more severe for women of color. The past

Sexually Transmitted Disease ( Std )
Sexually transmitted disease (STD) is one of the listed topics for Healthy people 2020 area for
improvement. The importance for prevention of STD is marked by a number of different factors like
high yearly increase in infected individuals, rise in healthcare cost, and long term health care
complications associated with untreated STDs. Another significant reason for the importance of STD
prevention is nearly half of the new cases of infected individuals are young adults between the ages of
15 24 (U. S. Department of Health Human Services [HHS], 2015). Adolescents between the age of 15
19 and young adults between the age of 20 24 are at a disproportionate rate in the number of new STD
cases yearly, in comparison to adults and older adults (HHS, 2015). Furthermore, not all STD cases
are reported or accounted for annually, and case numbers are possibly much higher than the reported
incidents that only include Clamydia, Gonorrhea, and syphilis. This target population is at an increase
need for safe sex practices to reduce the prevalence of new cases annually. The increase need for
education is pivotal for the reduction of new STD cases among adolescents. In an article entitled,
Comprehensive Sex Education for Teens is More Effective than Abstinence only programs, from the
American Journal of Nursing, emphasized that there is a need for qualified sex educators to provide
sex education to students in secondary schools. The article highlighted that the current laws, on sex

Arguments Against Assisted Suicide
All around the world, most specifically the U.S., Assisted Suicide has been debated by courts, people
and physicians. It s one of the most prominent topics among the states. The statistics state that 68% of
Americans think that doctors should be allowed to assist terminally ill patients in death. (Dugan 1)
With Assisted Suicide (most commonly known as physician assisted suicide), has been (and is being)
argued in the states, while some have come to agreement on the topic, which include Oregon,
Washington and Vermont. (Thompson 1) There are many ways a person can assist and commit suicide,
though it s usually done with lethal medication. ( Oregon Department of Human Services ) While
many physicians are against assisted suicide, there is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Assisted suicide would solve the problem of people dying in horrible ways in the hospital. It would
give family members closure, instead of having their loved one die suddenly in an explicit way.

It would be humiliating also very sad for a family member to die in a painful, dreadful way. This way,
with assisted suicide by lethal medication, he was able to go in a relatively painful way.
The wife may have been distraught over his death, but at least she didn t have to see her husband die,
full of pain and regret, and many people wouldn t want to see anything like that either.
Assisted suicide could also solve the issue of patients dying in pain, and totally dependent on others in
the hospital.

Analysis Of The First Hobbit Hole Upon Entrance During The...
Please Note all Costs are in $NZD
Strategy Outline
The strategy I have chosen to investigate in order to grow Hobbitons Profit is adding a proffesional
photo at the first hobbit hole upon entrance during the Hobbiton tour. This location is very suitable as
it gives the staff time to develop your photo by the end of the tour and it is also apart of the movie so it
will be recognisable and interesting to others, which is great marketing. This photo will be taken using
all professional equipment and a staff member who has been trained in a one day photography course
will be taking the photo.
The photo can be taken as indivual, group, couple or however you please. At the end of your hobbiton
tour so when you reach the pub, you will be given your photo when you receive your complimentary
drink. The photo will be given to you in a glossy quirky frame that is special and unique to Hobbiton.
Below is a small example of a tourism competitor Skyline Gondola, they offer this strategy as an
additonal cost but it is compulsory for the photo to be taken.

Business Case
As I explained above the strategy I have chosen is a adding a proffesional photo into Hobbitons tour
packages, this will be an increase in the ticket price. It will be announced as an increase but for a great
reason as you are reciving a photo in a quirky Hobbiton style frame. It is a clever way to announce a
price increase as

How Would Arcite Die In The Handmaid s Tale
1. In the anthology book, The Canterbury Tales (1478), Geoffrey Chaucer asserts that control and
rules do not always work out how they were envisioned to play out no matter how much someone tries
to enforce them. The author supports this claim by showing how Palamon and Arcite s knightly oath
to be loyal to each other did not work out how they thought when they both fell in love with the same
girl, Emily. The author purposely chooses to have Arcite die in the end just as he was about to win the
girl of his dreams in order to show that nothing can be perfect no matter how much someone tries as
disorder and entropy will always exist. The intended audience appears to be those who easily get upset
when things do not go their way such as Arcite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Evaluative: Why would Arcite use his last breath to tell how good of a man Palamon is to Emily when
he literally only die to keep her away from him in the first place? Was it a waste of his effort and of his
life as well? 3. He swore his oath that he, as a true knight, would wreak such vengeance on the tyrant
Creon that all the people of Greece would talk about how Creon, who justly deserved death, was
repaid by Theseus. (pg. 21) Theseus shows his respect and the importance that for the proper order of
things by promising to kill Creon because he refuses to allow the wives of men that he has defeated to
bury their husband s bodies which is a really bad thing especially in Greece. Theseus takes things into
his own hands and feels like it is his duty to punish Creon s savagery. Theseus feels like it is up to him
to bring balance by killing Creon. Theseus emphasizes how it is important that everybody knows what
happened to Creon which shows that it is not only vengeance that is driving Theseus but he also wants
to show the world that wrongs will not go unpunished well at least not as long as he is

Leadership Is A Leader And Knowing
What exactly is leadership? Leadership is taking in to accountability your responsibility as a leader
and knowing and doing what you need to do to guide people in the right direction. A quote that I
thought would be good to share you all is quoted from a person named Vinci Lombardi. In his own
words, Leaders aren t born, they are made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard
work. From this quote, you figure out that leaders weren t born as leaders; they worked hard to get to
the level where they are now. Even though they may learn aspects on how to lead quicker than
someone else does, that doesn t mean that anyone can t be a leader. Whether small or big, never give
up! A leader also needs to be able to stand up for what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a leader is motivating and pushing his or her followers to accomplish the assigned mission, this part
of the leader is good, however, if the leader doesn t even attempt to join in and help the team, that
implies bad leadership. It implies bad leadership because, motivating someone isn t hard to do. A
leader goes above and beyond what is expected of him or her. Therefore, if a leader doesn t want to
help, this is a trait that a leader SHOULD NOT possess. A leader should be willing to help his or her
followers because it shows respect to the team because once in their life, the leader was a follower as
well. Is following a choice, or an unconscious want? It is actually both, however it differs from
situation to situation. For example, in the story Herd Mentality? The Freakonomics of Boarding a Bus,
the narrator said that most people gravitate to point A (Point A is the bus stop closest to the narrator s
apartment). There is also an alternative point that people could go to, point B (Point B is the bus that is
a block west from the first bus, point A). The narrator also mentions that most people don t even think
about the existence of point B nor the amount of people that would be using the transportation from it.
This is an example of a follower going along the lines of an unconscious want or also known as peer

  • 2. The Importance of Presentation in Ecological Education Essay Environmentalism is an ethical outlook on the world as much as it is a scientific approach to living. Like any moral philosophy, it can be extremely difficult to enlighten those you see as in the wrong without offending them. When any individual or group accuses you of personal wrongdoing, recoil is the easiest natural reaction. Environmentalists are well aware of this, as are ethical vegetarians, those who donate to charity or volunteer their time with nonprofits and members of the Peace Corps. If somebody tells you in an aggressive or condescending manner that your way of life is damaging, unethical, idiotic, ignorant, unintelligent or reckless, chances are that you would take offense and not heed their advice. Few who truly take the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that wisdom, not cleverness, is the proper aim of all true learning and that human ignorance is not an entirely solvable problem; it is, rather, an inescapable part of the human condition (Orr, 2002, p. 39). As teachers and future teachers it is our duty to not only instill in our students the factual knowledge and technical skills they need to succeed in the world, but also to teach them to consider carefully the consequences of their actions. What happens to the metal cans from the two energy drinks that student consumes daily? What happens to their bodies from drinking that filth? Students do not think about these things often because they are not taught in any setting to think ecologically. How we can get students or any other members of our society to think ecologically is not something Orr dives particularly deeply into, however. There is a culture not just in the United States but also in most of the industrial world of rampant consumerism. We love objects and we love buying and owning useless things. We are all guilty of it to some extent. It shames me personally to admit that there is an unusually high proportion of plastic in my home. Plastic is just what things are made of, because ecological problems tend to take a backseat to economics. Ecological problems are often unintended, unforeseen, and sometimes ironic side effects of actions arising from other intentions (Orr, 2002, p. 13). As teachers we are going to ... • 3. The Dangers Of Mass Shootings Mass Shootings There is no question that mass shootings are happening more frequently. The question is are they happening to often? They have become more common, but have always been a problem in the world. Shootings have been happening since the invention of guns, but as we come closer to our era mass shootings have been happening more regularly. These shootings need to be stopped and put an end to. But how can we as a whole all come together and put an end to it? The statistics and facts that are going to be used give valid reasons to where the shootings take place, how it happens and the number of casualties and lives taken from these shootings. Mass shootings have recently become more frequent and more deadly over the years. Living in the U.S. we have lived through at least fifty years of mass shootings and a variation of tragedies. A mass shooting is when a gunman shoots or kills four or more people in the same general time and location. The three most deadly shootings that have occurred in the U.S. in the past ten years are Las Vegas attack (at least 58 killed), Virgina Tech massacre (32 killed), Orlando nightclub shooting(49 dead) (Willingham). These shootings exemplify the lack of control that we have over guns and the type of people that have possession of the guns. If we want to try to control the type of people who can own a gun, then the government should keep updated on the people who buy bigger guns with more rounds and do mental background checks. The researchers also found that most mass murderers suffered from some mental instability, though they usually weren t flagged by mental health specialists or law enforcement. And military style rifles were used in 18 of the 66 mass public shootings in the most recent 15 year period the researchers studied (Shastry, Anjali). If a person has possession a military style rifle that should automatically redflag the government. Some of the main reasons that these things happen are because the government or law enforcement don t keep tabs on these people. Media today plays a big part in the mass shootings believe it or not. Media contagion is largely responsible for the increase in these often deadly outbursts (Media Contagion). By showing the number ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Fatigue Fatigue is a form of failure that can occur in dental prostheses (e.g. implants and partial dentures) and appliances (e.g. braces) that are subjected to dynamic and fluctuating stresses that are lower than the yield strength. All materials in the mouth will be under repeated random stresses due to mastication, parafunctional loading, swallowing and clenching. These forces of parafunctional activity may create enough stress to initiate a crack in a defect and start the fatigue process. Most factures in dental prostheses and appliances (90%) occur after many years due to fatigue failure, and are usually unrelated to a single event of acute overload (Wiskott HW 1995). Causes of failure are multifactorial but understanding the mechanism of failure can help the dentist with treatment plans regarding restoration design and material selection. This will reduce costs for both patient and dentist in the long run since the full service life of the restoration will be utilised. In brittle materials, fatigue crack initiation occurs at a stress concentration due to a microdefect on the surface or within the material of the restoration. In osseointegrated implants, macroscopic analysis shows that crack initiation tends to occur near the bores (holes) on the side surface. Thus although bores promote osseointegration, they also act as stress intensifiers, which aids the fatigue process. Another region of stress concentration on the implant is the interface between the screw and the abutment so during stress intensification, the portion of the implant that is under tensile strength is more likely to initiate a crack when the applied load is cyclic and high. Shear stresses also reach a maximum at this interface and can rotate the whole implant along its long axis (Felli, F ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Impact Of Television On The Television Industry Essay Whilst much of television s history has relied on specific industrial practices established early in the 1960s, the turn of the century has introduced significant changes to the medium of television. The current position of television, defined by Lotz as the post network era, illustrates an evolution from these early industry practices. For the most part, scholars agree that this transition was caused by changes in the industrial norms of producing, financing, and distributing television, many of which can be attributed to the arrival of digital technologies. This essay will argue that these changes throughout the television industry have created a new, distinctive era of television culture. First and foremost, Lotz provides valuable insight into the distinguishable eras of television development. The resulting three eras are defined as the network era, multi channel transition and post network era (7). The network era , which spanned roughly from the early 1950s to the mid 1980s, governed industry operations and created a television experience which characterizes much of the medium s history. This era was characterized by adapting radio network modes of content creation, distribution, advertising, and audience measurement to the context of the then new televisual medium. Dominated by a three network oligopoly network system comprised of ABC, NBC and CBS critics have often condemned the network era as bland due to its strict censorship and limited creative ... Enthalpy (H) ... is a measure of the total energy possessed by a substance or group of substances. (Smith 2006, pp. 289). The change in enthalpy (∆H) of a substance is defined as the heat absorbed or released during a chemical reaction. A car motor works by converting petrol, also known as chemical energy, to kinetic energy, therefore assisting with the movement of a car. A chemical reaction, known as combustion, occurs in the car motor. A combustion reaction consists of a hydrocarbon reacting with oxygen (O2) to give the products carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O). A hydrocarbon is a compound consisting simply of Hydrogen (H2) and Carbon (C), methane (CH4) and diesel (C12H23) are examples of a hydrocarbon. The chemical equation for a combustion reaction is as follows: Hydrocarbon + Oxygen  Carbon Dioxide + Water. The combustion reaction of methane (CH4) is: CH4 (g) + 2O2 (g)  CO2 (g) + 2H2O (l), the combustion reaction of ethane is: 2C2H6 (g) + 7O2 (g)  4 CO2 (g) + 6 H2O (l) and the combustion reaction for butane is 2C4H10 (g) +13O2 (g)  8CO2 (g) +10H2O (g). If combustion takes place internally, the engine is referred to as an internal combustion engine. A diesel engine is an example of this. Internal combustion engines convert the chemical energy in fuel to mechanical energy via an exothermic reaction. An internal combustion engine, mainly consists of a ... In this statement Gaitor is saying that white people are sacred, and they are basically above everyone else and can be compared to God. Drew and her friends realize after they find that Flipper has been unfaithful that they are loosing all of their black men. One of Drew s friends states that there aint a good black man out there , which is a major symbolic shot to the labeling of African American s. African Americans may look down on themselves because they are a minority group in America compared to white people. According to Henslin a minority group s physical or cultural traits are held in low esteem by the dominant group, who treats them unfairly (266). Flipper s father talks of the white women, or the dominant group as being a pure race compared to other races. White women are seen in his eyes as very high up on the social status, with much power. The reason many people in America today, as well as in the movie are racist is because this is how they were brought up, by the labels they were taught to live by. Also, Figure 2 displays the link between perceived social pressure from family and time spent participating in aerobic exercise per week. The relationship between these two variables was very weak and insignificant, r(206)= .04, p=.558, as summarized in Table 1. The threshold significant p value for data is p .05. From our data, we can conclude that the weak correlation between social pressure from family and the amount of time spent on aerobic exercise is likely due to chance and is therefore insignificant. Lastly, Figure 3 shows the connection between social pressure from important figures in the participant s life and the amount of time spent on aerobic exercise. The link between our independent and dependent variable here was positive and weak, r(206)= .17, p=.013, as summarized in Table 1. Although the relationship between social pressure from important figures in the participant s life and time spent on aerobic exercise is weak, this finding is significant. Since our calculated p value from our Pearson s correlation test was very small, our positive correlational finding was not likely due to chance. Therefore we can loosely state that as social pressure from important figures in the participant s life increases, amount of time spent on aerobic exercise also increases. Discussion Due to how often young people attend social events and functions, we predicted that social pressure would be a key indicator for our participants exercise habits. We ... During the early to mid 20th century America went through an economical depression, two wars, and recessions, this caused many Americans to go through stages of poverty, fear, and wealth. At the turn of the century many homes were cleaned by hand, food was prepared in stoves, and children played in sitting rooms or outside. Technology allowed for changes to be made in the home over the course of just a few years with the introduction of toasters, refrigerators, televisions, and vacuum cleaners. Cooking for the household became easier with the advancements of gas and eventually electric ranges. Busch describes how the shift from gas range to electric range was beneficial as the units were smaller allowing more space in the kitchen, there was better temperature control, and oven heat control and exterior coolness since older gas ranges lacked oven thermostats and insulation. Refrigerators had been around for years, but were large and took up much of the room in a kitchen. Isenstadt states, Electric refrigerators in the 1920s and 1930s were seen as a large step toward modernization of the home. The Greeks won the war using this which I will tell you about later. Weapons used in the war Some weapons used in the war were the spear, sword, and shield. • 46. How Would Arcite Die In The Handmaid s Tale 1. In the anthology book, The Canterbury Tales (1478), Geoffrey Chaucer asserts that control and rules do not always work out how they were envisioned to play out no matter how much someone tries to enforce them. The author supports this claim by showing how Palamon and Arcite s knightly oath to be loyal to each other did not work out how they thought when they both fell in love with the same girl, Emily. The author purposely chooses to have Arcite die in the end just as he was about to win the girl of his dreams in order to show that nothing can be perfect no matter how much someone tries as disorder and entropy will always exist. The intended audience appears to be those who easily get upset when things do not go their way such as Arcite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Leadership is taking in to accountability your responsibility as a leader and knowing and doing what you need to do to guide people in the right direction. A quote that I thought would be good to share you all is quoted from a person named Vinci Lombardi. In his own words, Leaders aren t born, they are made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard work. From this quote, you figure out that leaders weren t born as leaders; they worked hard to get to the level where they are now. Even though they may learn aspects on how to lead quicker than someone else does, that doesn t mean that anyone can t be a leader. Whether small or big, never give up! A leader also needs to be able to stand up for what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If a leader is motivating and pushing his or her followers to accomplish the assigned mission, this part of the leader is good, however, if the leader doesn t even attempt to join in and help the team, that implies bad leadership. It implies bad leadership because, motivating someone isn t hard to do. A leader goes above and beyond what is expected of him or her. Therefore, if a leader doesn t want to help, this is a trait that a leader SHOULD NOT possess. A leader should be willing to help his or her followers because it shows respect to the team because once in their life, the leader was a follower as well. The Freakonomics of Boarding a Bus, the narrator said that most people gravitate to point A (Point A is the bus stop closest to the narrator s apartment). There is also an alternative point that people could go to, point B (Point B is the bus that is a block west from the first bus, point A). The narrator also mentions that most people don t even think about the existence of point B nor the amount of people that would be using the transportation from it. This is an example of a follower going along the lines of an unconscious want or also known as peer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
