• The lyrics regard the frontman’s
breakdown due to drug misuse and
schizophrenia, bandmates could
“still feel his presence at Abbey
Road. Or maybe it was his absence
– the absence from Pink Floyd,
from reality, from himself”. The
concept album “Wish You Were
Here” illustrates the difference
between the bands success and happiness contrasted to the strained camaraderie
they faced with fame and focus on themselves/money. The song itself deals with
seeing the singer as so mentally unable, detached and disengaged from the world.
This is similar to the feelings I want to portray in my film: the music itself can
create such feelings in audiences therefore a similar tone is important in my film.
• The emotive, acoustic melody in this song links to the soft beginning of the
voice-over I will include. Its peaceful nature juxtaposes with the natural feelings
you feel of distance and loss when listening.

3. Prelude (The Wall Work in Progress) - Pink Floyd
• From another Pink Floyd concept album, it is important for the music to build
up emotion and pace to make the feelings in listeners gradually build with the
revealing of the message. I will incorporate this pace building in my film with
the backing music.
• The piece begins with extracts of an old-fashioned, radio style sound, seeming
reminiscent of an old-fashioned time that seems alien and fictional to modern
listeners. I would like to portray a feeling of nostalgia in audiences who have not
experienced a 1960’s lifestyle as a form of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs to self-
actualise – a sense of culture will make the film more enjoyable.

4. Chapel of Love - The Dixie Cups
• Despite the romantic and sweet tone, this song can be manipulated to be
sombre/haunting due to the melodic, repetitive chorus. The historic context
and sound of the song creates a feeling of “looking back” – I feel that my
musician creating a background piece that sounds like it’s from a different
era will enhance the narrative of recall and looking back on emotional
events.
