The document provides an analysis of John Donne's metaphysical poem "Batter My Heart" through a S.E.A (Statement, Evidence, Analysis) framework. Key points discussed include the violent imagery and imperative tone used to express the speaker's inner desperation and struggle to let God into his life. Various literary devices are examined such as syntax, lexis, imagery, phonology and an extended metaphor portraying God as a carpenter, military man and rapist to overwhelm the speaker. The analysis highlights how these techniques convey the complex nature of the speaker's argument and feelings of uncertainty and passion towards his decision and religion.

Cleanth Brooks - The Language of ParadoxDilip Barad
This presentation is based on Cleanth Brooks's essay "The Language of Paradox,", wherein Cleanth Brooks emphasizes how the language of poetry is different from that of the sciences, claiming that he is interested in our seeing that the paradoxes spring from the very nature of the poet's language: “it is a language in which the connotations play as great a part as the denotations. And I do not mean that the connotations are important as supplying some sort of frill or trimming, something external to the real matter in hand. I mean that the poet does not use a notation at all--as a scientist may properly be said to do so. The poet, within limits, has to make up his language as he goes.”
The Good-Morrow by John Donne: Analysis. The Good-Morrow, by John Donne, chiefly deals with a love that advances further from lusty love to the spiritual love. The poem makes use of biblical and Catholic writings, indirectly referencing the legend of the Seven Sleepers and Paul the Apostle's description of divine, agapic love – two concepts with which, as a practicing Catholic, Donne would have been familiar.
Shelley is by far the most talented and at the same time most controversial of all the Romantics.
In his short life of 29 and a half years, he created some literary jewels which time has not been able to stale.
Shelley’s main works comprise of Ozymandias, Ode to the West Wind, To a Skylark, Music, When Soft Voices Die, The Cloud, and The Mask of Anarchy. His other major works include long, visionary poems such as Queen Mob, Alastor, The Revolt of Islam, Adonais, The unfinished work The Triumph of Life; and the visionary verse drama The Cencis(1819) and Prometheus Unbound(1820).
Shelley’s joy, his magnanimity, his faith in humanity, and his optimism are unique among the Romantics.
This is the summary of Church Going. This is one of the poem of Philip Larkin. Philip Larkin is one of the most prominent poet of English Literature and Language.
Poetry, he wrote in the Preface, originates from ‘the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings’ which is filtered through ‘emotion recollected in tranquillity’.

INTERVIEW NO. 3 WITH RON PRICE
Preamble:
This is the third interview in the year 1996 with the Australian-Canadian poet Ron Price. This interview continues to explore some of the same questions, examine similar issues and talk about poetry, reading and writing as the first two interviews did earlier in 1996. He has also added material in the years after 1996 and up to 2012.
Questioner(Q): We have talked before about your first poem, or poems. Could you tell us more about how you got started in the poetry business?
Price(P): The first poem I wrote and kept in my files was two to three months after I started taking lithium carbonate, a mood stabilizer, for my bipolar 1 disorder. I wrote some forty poems in the six years: 1981 to 1987 and another one hundred and thirty from 1988 to 1991. I have come to see this period of some 11 years as my ‘first poems’. There was an emotional stability in my life that I had not had before as a young adult or middle-aged man, indeed, since I was in my mid-teens, since about 1959. I have talked about lithium before and I don’t want to belabor the point here, but I think it has been crucial to my balance and well-being. In the ‘80s I had several some major battle-zones in my life: in my employment, and in my fight for compliance on the medication. I worked in Zeehan, Tasmania; Katherine, Northern Territory; Port Headland and Perth in Western Australia--all in the same decade. In addition, my wife was sick much of the time in that decade---and on and on goes the litany of troubles. I think this zone of troubles kept my production limited, although I did write many essays.

University lecturer, Dr. Carolyn Allen comments on the work of Jamaican poet, Marguerite C. Anderson. Anderson's anthology of poems, "Echoes From The Naked Soul" has been amassing interest from a wide audience (predominantly women) as many of her poems focus on issues of feminism. Themes such as motherhood, abandonment, loveless marriage, childhood experiences, injustice, sexuality, and religiosity are some of the issues explored in the anthology.
This presentation is made as part of the Teachers day lesson. in this presentation the focus is on the poem 'The Flea' by John Donne, also focusing the metaphysical poetry and Donne's metaphysical Characteristics in this poem and the detailed analysis.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Sonnet-Batter my Heart: John Donne
1. SONNET: BATTER MY HEART
JOHN DONNE (1572-1631)
L.O: To analyse the content and content of the
poem.
To use appropriate terminology to write about the
poem.
2. METAPHYSICAL POETS
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aythWSgjDR
k
‘Metaphysical’ is a strange name. Literally, it
means: a certain branch of philosophy, to do with
concepts like ‘Being’ and ‘Knowing’
It addresses key questions such as What does it
mean to exist? How do we know? How can we be
sure we know? What can we know?
The Metaphysical poets never used this term of
themselves. It was their successors, who did not
much care for their poetry, who gave them and
their poetry the name:
3. Poetic philosophy
Metaphysical poetry is not afraid of ideas and
concepts. These may be philosophical, but they may also
be to do with religion, or science, or politics, or
mathematics. Metaphysical poetry sometimes uses
these ideas as the main part of the argument of the
poem; but they are also used as a source of imagery, to
illustrate a point.
Intellect and feeling
In much Metaphysical poetry there is a debate going
on, as in a law-court, in which a case is being made for
or against somebody or something. The poems can have
a considerable intellectual content but this does not
mean that they are academic, boring, or without
feeling. Most of the Metaphysical poets were also very
passionate and very engaged emotionally but they
managed to combine intellect and emotion, as good
lawyers do in court.
4. SONNET: BATTER MY HEART
John Donne (1572-1631)
Batter my heart, three-person'd God; for, you
As yet but knocke, breathe, shine, and seeke to mend;
That I may rise, and stand, o'erthrow mee, and bend
Your force, to breake, blowe, burn, and make mee new.
I, like an usurpt towne, to another due,
Labour to admit you, but Oh, to no end,
Reason your viceroy in mee, mee should defend,
But is captiv'd, and proves weake or untrue.
Yet dearly I love you, and would be loved faine,
But am betroth'd unto your enemie:
Divorce mee, untie, or breake that knot againe,
Take mee to you, imprison mee, for I
Except you enthrall mee, never shall be free,
Nor ever chaste, except you ravish mee.
5. CONTENT
‘Batter My Heart’ was written after Donne was asked
to be an Anglican priest, the poem expresses his inner
desperation and mental turmoil, Donne wants to let God
into his life yet feels he is too weak, he is asking God to
push himself in and the poem contains many violent
images. The poem was shocking for its time and still has
the power to shock as the four stanzas chart the
struggle Donne undergoes.
Audience – Plausible that he could have read them to an
audience of friends hence the shocking quality, not
likely to have been read in a sermon due to
controversial nature of ideas.
Purpose – This poem is an appeal to God, pleading with
Him not for mercy or clemency or benevolent aid but
for a violent, almost brutal overmastering.
