What is Solid Waste?
 Solid waste is the
unwanted or useless
solid materials
generated from
combined residential,
industrial and
commercial activities in
a given area.
Let’s know more of it :
Definition- Any useless, discarded, unwanted
material that is not a liquid or gas is referred as solid
waste or refuse.
 Solid wastes: wastes in solid forms, domestic,
commercial and industrial wastes Examples: plastics ,
bottles, cans, papers, scrap iron, and other trash
 Solid Waste : It is non liquid , non gaseous material
ranging from municipal garbage to industrial waste
that contain complex and sometimes hazardous
substances.
Cont … … … .
 Solid waste also include
 Garbage
Rubbish
Demolition products
Sewage treatment residue
Dead animals
Manure and other discarded
material Garbage bunker
QUESTIONS & ANSWERS:

What is solid waste management ?
Simply solid waste management means managing the solid
waste for the betterment of environment and all living being
Why do we need to manage the solid waste ?
Solid waste can cause health, safety and economic problems
Damage the Earth’s ecosystem
Moreover it’s a RED ALLERT for our Environment & etc.
This is why we need SWM
SOLID WASTES
SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT-
Objectieves :
 Reduce ,Reuse and Recycle
 Energy generation
 Sustainable development
 Public hygiene and health
Objective of Solid Waste management :
 To identify types of solid wastes and their sources
 To examine the physical and chemical composition.
 To consider the elements involved in management.
 To minimize the adverse environmental impacts
Materials:
Materials used for Solid Waste Management (SWM)
 Separators
 Sorting plants
 Conveyor belts
 Waste balers
 Bulldozers(used to work in landfills)
 Garbage Bunker

SWM in Bangladesh
Solution For Bangladesh
Control Waste
Reduce
Reuse
Recycle
Solution For Bangladesh
Reduce your waste in 4 way
Control Waste
Avoid wasting food
Avoid unwanted
products.
Think before shop
Distribute unwanted goods to others
Solution For Bangladesh
Facilities
Modern landfill
Incineration
waste handling
practice
Solution For Bangladesh
 1. Modern landfill
 2. Incineration
 3. waste handling practice
 To get a stable waste management system in our country
we need to maintain some extra facilities such as
 Developed countries using these method. Being an under
developing country we should follow their system
 Social Awareness:
Social awareness is the main thing that can give us a clean living place.
If we fail to manage the solid waste properly then it will be impossible
to manage the waste by government. For Bangladesh people we
should be more conscious about it.
