Over 1 billion people lack access to improved water sources, especially in sub-Saharan Africa where 42% of the population is without access. This lack of access has major health consequences, including increased rates of diarrhoea, intestinal helminths, and trachoma. Current efforts to address this issue include market research on product focus, reliability, cost, and responses to customer needs. The proposed solution is a simple solar water distiller made from locally available and recyclable materials that can purify unsafe water using natural sunlight. The product aims to provide access to water for all and targets communities in Kenya, Mali, and Ghana through distribution of instruction manuals and collaboration with NGOs and companies.
