Solar energy comes from sunlight and can be transformed into electricity or heat. People have harnessed solar energy since ancient times for warmth, and solar panels have been used to convert sunlight into electricity since 1876. Spain has significant solar potential due to its sunny climate and has become one of the top producers of solar energy worldwide, with solar power meeting 2.8% of the country's electricity demand in 2009. While solar energy has advantages like being renewable and carbon-free, it also has disadvantages such as only working when the sun is shining and some areas not receiving much sunlight.
