2. SOFT TISSUE NECK
 Soft tissue neck radiographs are commonly demonstrate
to look of foreign bodies (e.g. fish bone) or, particularly
in kids, to assess upper airways infections.
 There are two types of x-ray view for diagnosing the
upper airway –
 AP
 LATERAL
 Both are done in erect position (commonly).

 Patient positioning –
 Ask the patient to stand in erect AP position facing an upright cassette
holder.
 Midline of the body should be in the midline of the cassette.
 Cervical spine should be center of the cassette.
 Both shoulder should be in the same horizontal plane and pronated
with equal amount of weight for equal level of shoulders.
 Extend the neck as possible as enough.
 Upper end of cassette should be 1 inch above the upper part of ear
pinna.
