Essay On How To Solve The Sparse Approximate Dft Problem
The first work that tried to solve the sparse approximate DFT problem can be found in cite{NYN93},
in which they designed an algorithm based on Hadamard Transform, i.e. the Fourier transform over
the Boolean cube. A polynomial time algorithm to interpolates a sparse polynomial was developed in
cite{Y95}. The method in this paper inspired the authors of cite{GMS05}, in which they described
an algorithm that can be used to approximate DFT when $N$ is a power of 2. In the early 2000s,
people paid a lot of attention to the sparse approximation problem in Fourier space. The first algorithm
with sub linear runtime and the sub sampling property was given in cite{GGIMM02}. In which they
give a randomized algorithm with runtime poly($s, log N, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, it needs to point out that the runtime of the algorithm in cite{AGS03} has a high
dependence on sparsity compare with cite{GGIMM02} and cite{GMS05}.
All the SFT algorithms above are randomized algorithms. This means they have small probability to
fail to give the correct or optimal recovery on each input signal. Thus, they are not appropriate for
long lived failure intolerant applications. The first deterministic sub linear time SFT algorithm was
developed in cite{I08} based on the deterministic Compressed Sensing results of Cormode and
Muthukrishnan (CM)cite{RSR69}cite{CM05}cite{CM06}. A simpler optimized version of this
algorithm was given in cite{I10}, which has similar runtime/sampling bounds ($mathcal{O}(s^2
log ^4 N)$) to the one in cite{GMS05}. Later, in cite{I11}, a further modified SFT algorithm was
provided. It showed simple methods for extending the improved sparse Fourier transforms to higher
dimensional settings. More specifically, the algorithm can find the near optimal $s$ term
approximation for any given input function, $f: [0,2pi]^{D} rightarrow C$ in $mathcal{O}(s^2
D^4)$ time (neglecting logarithmic factors). The algorithms in cite{I08}cite{I10}cite{I11} are all
aliasing based search algorithm cite{indyk_overview}, which means they rely on the combinatorial
properties of aliasing among frequencies in sub samples DFTs. The algorithms

Overview
The City of Charlottetown is a flourishing community of over 34,562 people located on the south
shore of Prince Edward Island. Charlottetown is the capital city of Prince Edward Island, and is called
the Birthplace of Confederation after the historic 1864 Charlottetown Conference which led to
Confederation (Wikipedia, 2016).
Culture
The core culture of Charlottetown is embodies the idea of crafting. This covers many of the aspects
from artifacts, food, music, dance and so much more. The locals have created a joyful and happy
atmosphere there, which formed a very unique culture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The wording is unique, and not normally used in modern day english which will make people stop and
think about it for a second and make them wonder as to what the campaign means. This is optimal,
because if it gets a person to stop, that not means they are interested, but that they are also taking the
time to read the material provided. In the same sense, it will also create desire, as the slogan is short
enough to stay in a person s head, and simple location reminders will help to spark desire. For
example, after seeing the slogan, if the person sees a sign for Prince Edward Island, farms, red sand,
etc they will think of the slogan, creating a form situational desire. This will then lead to sparking an
interest in planning a vacation to Charlottetown and with enough push, may create the actual action of
booking a trip to visit Charlottetown.

A Romantic, Young Adult Novel, Paper Towns by John Green
Paper Towns by John Green is a somewhat romantic young adult novel. The novel s overlying central
idea is that people are not made of paper. They have dimensions; unexposed sides to themselves that
the world may never see. A person can never truly be known, because the human mind is a complex
thing, filled with nooks and crannies never to be exposed. Quentin, a nerdy high school senior, is, and
always has been, infatuated with his next door neighbor Margo Roth Spiegelman. Quentin describes
this situation by saying, My miracle was this: out of all the houses in all the subdivision of Florida, I
ended up living next to Margo Roth Spiegelman (Green 1). Previously best friends, the two have
become largely independent of one another, almost never speaking or even sharing a friendly glance.
Until one night, Margo breaks into Q s window and takes him on a wild night of revenge against her
enemies. Expecting to run into Margo at school the next day, Quentin finds that she has gone missing,
presumably run away. After learning about Margo s tendency of leaving breadcrumb trails, Q soon
discovers the clues, and they are for him. As a whole, the novel is quite cleverly broken up into three
parts; The Strings, The Grass, and The Vessel. Each part of the novel corresponds with a metaphor of
the same name. The first metaphor, the strings, takes a dark look at things. After the young Q and
Margo find the body of a man who killed himself, Margo says, Maybe all the strings

Fenway Park Essays
Some things on this earth are just magical. To some it may be the beach at sunset, to others it may be
as simple as the drive to work in the morning. For me that place is Fenway Park in Boston
Massachusetts. Going to a game in Fenway is a smorgasbord of delightful feelings. Even the walk up
to the ballpark is some thing to behold. Walking with hundreds of passionate fans, all decked out in
their red sox T shirts, jerseys, and of coarse that iconic navy hat with the red B on it. I feel like I

Now the process is done electronically which leave little room for human errors. When Target receives
its shipments it is received not only using the online computer system but the same APP is used on the
hand held pda s. This makes it easier to receive the trucks and to cancel any truckload before it comes
to the store. Also being able to see the shipment a head of time allows the company to distribute the
merchandise to the stores that are in need of the merchandise. This is a big part of the chain because if
the merchandise is not shipped then the company might not be able to meet the demand of the
consumer. In order to meet their needs the product must be in stock. Target has a strong logistics
background. So not only is supply incorporated but the demand segment is also.
Suppliers
The company has two types of suppliers, local and oversees. The main concept is to make sure the
correct price is getting to the customer. The suppliers range from to U.S. to china (mainland) to India
and Pakistan. They have many suppliers across the world. Target uses EDI, which is electronic data
interchange. This saves time because all transactions are done electronically which leaves room for
fewer errors. The process is cost effective and created with speed. All data is transferred between the
suppliers and target. The process starts from Target creating the order and it ends with the supplier
getting their payment. The suppliers also keep track on how the

Essay On Occupational Stress On Working Women
STRESS MANAGEMENT WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO PUBLIC SECTOR BANK
EMPLOYEES IN CHENNAI
RAJENDRAN JAYASHREE
INTRODUCTION Today workplace stress is becoming a major issue and a matter of concern for the
employees and the organizations. It has become a part of life for the employees, as life today has
become so complex at home as well as outside that it is impossible to avoid stress. Selye [1936]
defines stress as a dynamic activity wherein an individual is confronted with an opportunity, constraint
or demand . Organisational stress arises due to lack of person environment fit. When organizational
stress is mismanaged, it affects the human potential in the organization. It further leads to reduced

Occupational stress is an increasingly important occupational health problem and a significant cause
of economic loss. Occupational stress may produce both overt psychological and physiologic
disabilities. However it may also cause subtle manifestation of morbidity that can affect personal well
being and productivity (Quick, Murphy, Hurrel and Orman, 1992). A job stressed individual is likely
to have greater job dissatisfaction, increased absenteeism, increased frequency of drinking and
smoking, increase in negative psychological symptoms and reduced aspirations and self esteem (Jick
and Payne, 1980). The use of role concepts suggests that occupational stress is associated with
individual, interpersonal and structural variables (Kutz and Kahn, 1978; Whetten, 1978). Studies on
burnout found that, it is related to exhaustion and work over load factors in various organisations
(Green and Walkey, 1988; Chermiss, 1980; Freudenberger, 1977, 1980). Stress on the job is costly for
employers, reflected in lower productivity, reduced motivation and job skills, and increased and
accidents. The purpose present study is an attempt to investigate and to compare the level of stress
experienced by the employees of the Nationalised banks in Chennai. The study aims to ascertain the
level of stress and to analyse the various attributes which influence organizational stress on bank
employees. III. SCOPE OF THE STUDY United States

Sound Of Waves Analysis
Throughout the novel The Sound of Waves, women are portrayed differently than men and this divide
is apparent in the entirety of the work. Yukio Mishima creates a society that is so odd to anyone living
in a more progressive culture because he writes about an island that has it s inhabitants criticize people
who see women as equals. In this novel, women are seen as objects, discouraged from being educated
and are restricted and told to be a certain thing or act a certain way in order to fit in. Women are forced
to follow society s rules and can not be who they want to be.
On the island, women are treated as objects and are controlled by men. This is shown when Hatsue is
given away to be adopted by her father because he does not need her, but after his son passes away he
has her returned because he now has a use for her. This shows that women are treated as lesser and
that her father thinks he can do whatever he wants. In the book, one of Shinji s friends explains the
situation, Uncle Teru had four girls and one boy. Said he had more than enough of girls, so he married
three of them off and let the other one be adopted away... but then, what do you know, that only son of
his, Matsu, dies of lung sickness last year. Being a widower, Uncle Teru starts feeling lonely. So he
calls hatsue back, has her put back in his family registry , and decides to adopt a husband into the
family for her, to have someone to carry on the name (18). The control over woman is also shown

Sociology Of Health And Illness
SOCIOLOGY OF HEALTH AND ILLNESS
This study is based on a newspaper article about obesity and how the National Health Service (NHS)
will offer free cookery classes in war on the obesity crisis to overweight and obese families as well as
doctors and nurses (Donnelly, 2015). The World Health Organisation (2015) has classed obesity as a
worldwide epidemic that has seen numbers double since the 1980 s. The WHO (2015) define obesity
as an individual having a Body Mass Index equal or higher than 30 and has been linked to non
communicable diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, muscoskeletal and some cancers.

The report identifies that obesity is now a health pandemic in the United Kingdom and the National
Health Service is taking steps to tackle obesity not only with the nation at large but also among the
healthcare workers who have to help the government tackle obesity in the community seeing as they
are the front line staff who would be responsible for educating the public on losing weight. Mooney et
al (2015) further states that the functionalist perspective also focuses on how society is interconnected
and how each part of society influences and in turn is influenced by the other parts. The doctors and
nurses influence the patients they come in contact with and the rationale for the scheme in regards to
the staff is that they should practice what they preach before they challenge the public s unhealthy
lifestyles.
According to McIntosh (1996) functionalist view social problems in a diverse number of ways and
argue that inequalities are normal and necessary for social systems and for the functioning of social
systems there has to be a division of labour therefore there will be individuals from varying
educational backgrounds as well as skill backgrounds. In the report the problem identified was obesity

Gravimetric Determination of Calcium
Gravimetric Determination of Calcium ABSTRACT Determining the mass of a pure compound is a
method of a gravimetric analysis. One of the gravimetric analyses is the precipitation; it is a method of
separating the analyte from the unknown sample as a precipitate where it will be filtered and
converted into a known composition that can be weighed to determine its mass (Skoog et al, 2013).
Determining the mass of calcium by using gravimetric analysis was the objective of the experiment. A
25 mL of unknown sample was used to analyze its calcium component. This sample was diluted with
25mL of distilled water in a beaker. It was converted into a soluble precipitate by adding 25 mL of
ammonium oxalate solution and 15 g of solid urea. Since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We made sure to rinse the glass rod before removing it to the beaker. Then we added up 15 g of solid
urea to each sample. We boiled the solution for 30 minutes up until the indicator turns yellow. After
boiling, we filtered it each through a funnel. The remaining solid from the beaker will be transfer to
the funnel by adding 3mL of ice cold water to the beaker. We made sure that all of the precipitate has
been transferred. After that, we used 10 mL of ice cold water to rinse each beaker and pour the
washings over the precipitate. We transferred the precipitate in to the petridish, but before that we
weighted first the petridish with the filter paper so that we can get the grams of the CaC2O4 2H2O
precipitate later. We dried the precipitate in an oven set at 105oC for 1 hour. After that, we placed it
inside the desiccator for 30 minutes to cool down the heat. Then instantly we weigh the petridish with
CaC2O4 2H2O precipitate. In order to get the weight CaC2O4 2H2O precipitate, we subtracted the
mass of the petridish alone from the mass of the petridish with CaC2O4 2H2O precipitate. And for
determining the weight of Ca in the CaC2O4 2H2O precipitate, we use stoichiometry. We also
computed for the average weight of calcium. III. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION Sample No. Trial 1

Public universities have grown from seven public universities in the 1990s to a total of 20 in 2007
(Ministry of Higher Education, 2007). A total of 18 private universities have also been established
during the same period. At the same time, there are more than 500 other institutions, including
university colleges, branch campuses of local and overseas institutions, open universities and other
institutions with non university status. Student enrolment had sky rocketed. In 2002, the total number
of students enrolled in higher institutions was 576,439 and enrolment had increased to 748,797 in
2007.
With the expansion of higher education, greater attention has to be paid to the labor market prospects
since imbalances may be created between higher education and labor market demands (Kartz Gerro
Yaish, 2003;
Teichler, 2000). Specifically, there have been concerns about the level of graduate unemployment, the
transition from higher education to work and the problems of job mismatches (Kougioumoutzaki
Kalamatianou, 2008).
Although the unemployment rate in Malaysia is always low compared to the United States or
European countries, there are great concerns for unemployment. This is due to the fact that currently,
there is no unemployment insurance or assistance available in the country. Hence an increase in the
unemployment rate may lead to an increased crime rate. In light of the above, this paper focuses on

Karen Carlin Case
Memo
To: Ms. Boyce, Chief Executive Officer
From: Student, Personnel Management Consultant
Subject: Karen Carlin Case Study: Issue Analysis and Proposed Solutions
Date: 21 October 2010
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this memo is to analyze and propose solutions for the issues Karen Carlin faces as she
takes on the supervisor role for the schedule typist department of Hepplewhite Boyce. The three issues
to be analyzed are (1) lack of productivity, (2) insubordination and abuse of company resources, and
(3) staff mismanagement. First, the problems will be defined and probable causes discussed. Then,
recommendations will be made to resolve these issues.

She has also been known to report to work, only to leave the office for hours at a time doing personal
errands. Pat is influencing the others to take long lunches and be late for work as well. This blatant
abuse can be attributed to the following possible causes:
1. The employees are not challenged.
2. The employees resent management for not listening to their ideas regarding process improvement.
Clearly, the insubordination and abuse of company resources cannot be allowed to continue. Staff
Mismanagement
And finally, there is the issue of staff mismanagement. The supervisor, Keith Frazier, is only checking
in with this department one to two times per week. Mr. Frazier is aware that Pat is making
international phone calls. He is also aware that Pauline found a way for Pat to make these calls from
the building s elevator once he had the phone system modified to only allow internal calls. Mr. Frazier
has also been fielding complaints from the accountants about not receiving their tax schedules in a
timely fashion. However, he has failed to confront either of these issues. This lack of management can
be attributed to the following:
1. Mr. Frazier does not respect the type of work done by this department.
2. Mr. Frazier fears confrontation.
Something must be done to allow for better management of the staff.
RECOMMENDED SOLUTIONS
Recommendations to solve the issues in the three areas

Taking a Look at Employee Turnover
Employee turnover is an issue that at some point affects all businesses. Employees choose to leave
organizations both voluntarily and involuntarily dependent on a wide multitude of circumstances (Noe
et al., 2011). Regardless of the reason for separation, employee turnover comprises of both direct and
indirect costs that financially impact an organization. There are four basic cost categories related to
employee turnover: separation, replacement, training, and productivity (Source?). Separation costs are
expenses that are caused when employees or organizations choose to end their partnership and include
expenses such as unemployment compensation, legal settlements, extended benefits, and the cost of
conducting exit interviews. Replacement costs are the expenses required to refill the vacant position.
These costs include items such as position advertisement, recruitment costs, costs of screening and
interviewing employees, and any hiring or signing bonuses expensed to fill the open role. Training
costs include the time and effort needed from trainers, supervisors, and co workers to educate
employees. Lastly productivity costs include lower productivity of employees prior to leaving the
organization, reduced productivity and increased labor expenses of remaining employees to cover the
open positions, morale and reputation issues created by employee losses, increased error rates of new
employees, and lost knowledge and efficiency of experienced employee that leave

Global Information Systems ( Gis )
Global Information Systems In this critical essay, I have tried to identify the major processes of
designing, developing, and implementing Global Information Systems (GIS). I have also provided the
discussion of how the level of Global Information Infrastructures (GII) affects the design,
development, and implementation of GIS, and how these processes differ from those in a domestic
context. Finally, I have also explained how firms should employ appropriate GII to support these
processes.
Design, Develop and Implement Global Information Systems
Implementing the GIS is a huge challenge for many multi national organizations. There are numerous
reasons for which a GIS is required, for example, to provide the base IT support in each and every
country, where the business units of the organization are located. A properly designed, developed, and
implemented GIS helps exchanging information globally, and has also been flexible enough to provide
local features and functionalities (Markus, 2007).
An iterative approach is recommended at each phase of design, development, and implementation of a
GIS. Throughout the system development process a close connection between the end users, the
system analysts, and the technical team becomes a high priority. The end users should be allowed to
select, and prioritize the most important requirements. The system analysts should be able to
understand and translate the non technical language of end users to the language understandable by the

comprehensive collection of all the activities that are performed to design, produce, and market,
deliver, and support a product line (Porter, 1985). When we combine the concept of the value chain
and system to the organization we understand that organizations span across functional departments
like finance, marketing, sales, and support etc.
Organizations implementing BPM Systems
One of the influential factors on implementation success that emerges from research, trade literature
and practice is the level of process orientation within an organization. (Parkes, 2002). Typical
advantages of implementing a BPM system in an organization are reduced lead times, fewer hand off
errors, and more flexibility to change the structure of supported business processes. (Parkes, 2002). In
the research community, there is some consensus that the essence of a BPMS is the functionality that
has been attributed historically to a workflow management system. (WfMS). (Van der Aalst et al.,

Creatine Side Effects On Nutritional Supplements
This creatine side effects update covers sources of creatine in food, effective supplementation and
study results of creatines effectiveness.
Over the last decade, thousands of articles have been written about creatine side effects in scientific
journals, magazines, newspapers, and on the Internet. The reason for this interest is that creatine
supplements have proven to be one of the most effective methods available to increase strength,
power, and muscle mass. Moreover, a number of potential therapeutic creatine benefits have been
suggested for various patient populations. Despite this impressive body of research, concerns have
been raised about the safety of creatine side effects and ethics of athletes taking performance
enhancing nutritional supplements. While a number of very good reviews have been published about
creatine side effects in the scientific literature, a significant amount of misinformation has been
written about creatine side effects, particularly in the popular media. Additionally, several nutritional
supplement companies have attempted to gain market share by perpetuating some of these creatine

risks of creatine supplements.

White Privilege Sociology
White privilege is a form of structural racism where whites are routinely advantaged while producing
adverse outcomes for people of color such as Blacks and Hispanics. White privilege is a historically
based system which still exists in the United States (US). In my view, white privilege system marked
the beginning of racial inequality in the US. White privilege exists in the United States and is one of
the contributing factors to the injustices people with color are facing in the US.
White privilege is a unique form of racism given its fascinating characteristic of not involving
hostility. Therefore, it cannot be directly blamed on someone (Pludo, 2015). The lack of blame does
not cause any discomfort on the white persons enjoying the privileges. ... Show more content on

For instance, in a scenario when an injustice occurs when a white is favored against a nonwhite who is
in a similar situation as the white person (same social class, same education or same job skills).
Neoliberalism has partly contributed to racial inequality in the US. The concept that the free market is
the best way to organize a society greatly favors the white (Pludo, 2015). However, the social
formation needs not to be considered racist.
Although efforts have been made to fight white supremacy, nonwhites continue to face injustices
based on their color. The US has made efforts towards liberal multicultural era whereby white
supremacy is obscured by certain events. The election of President Obama was a step towards liberal
multicultural era (Melamed, 2011). Obama s government made efforts to empower people with color
in the US.
Whites are less likely to encounter with the police compared to African Americans. African Americans
are twice likely to be arrested and almost four times likely to experience the use of force during police

attribute the high number of Black arrests to race. Poverty is known to be a predisposing factor for

How Did England Lose Colonial America
In the early American days, America was mostly controlled by English and French settlers. They
fought for land near the fertile Ohio River Valley, both claiming to own the land. The strive to fully
own this land led to the French and Indian war in 1754. The French fought with the Native Americans
against England and its colonies. In 1763, the war finally ended with the surrender at Montreal and the
Treaty of Paris. England had won the war, but at a certain price. Eventually, through a chain of events,
England lost rebellious America because of this war. After the French and Indian war, England needed
to pay off a large war debt. They decided to abuse their power in eastern America to pay off the debt.

The days of selling to a buyer alone are slowing dying. Companies sell products that have a wide
effect on the client and require approval from many levels. Success in complex sales is the result of

the selling and client side throughout the sales process. What is team selling? Team selling is using the
resources of a company to sell an account using all relevant decision makers. The goal of team selling

Planning Presentations
Sales presentations should be simple not overwhelming with information a customer may not be able
to remember. The goal of a sales presentation is to sell a solution to a customer, that solution being the
product or service of the salesperson. A presentation must be relevant, make a connection with the
product and the prospect, be to point, use showmanship, be animated, use physical demonstration, and
belief in the product.
In a team selling environment, one person could give the presentation, one could answer questions, or
however the team decides to set up the presentation. The one thing that should not happen is each
person give there own presentation on the same product; do not confuse the customer. All team
members should be clear on roles and responsibilities. A team should always be together so all
members give the same answers and information to the customer.
Selecting and Recruiting
When hiring salespeople set of qualifications and a job description with the duties the salesperson will
do should be established. Many companies use outside agencies to help screen and find the best

management skills will be extremely important in a candidate for a sales position. Recruitment should

Personal Diet and Weight Loss Management Analysis Essay
Personal Diet and Weight Loss Management Analysis
Each morning I get on the scales and hope that I can celebrate losing a pound or two. The numbers I
see on the scale represent a gauge that keeps me moving forward in a weight loss program. When I
look at the numbers on the scale I realize I am making progress in losing weight, however, am I
putting my body at more risk just by limiting certain foods? Comparing and contrasting my typical
diet to the amounts of daily nutrients recommended in the United States Department of Agriculture

associated with my eating habits. These include: diabetes, osteoporosis, heart disease and cancer. The
risk factors contributing to diabetes include only having a moderate amount of exercise, being
overweight, having a low intake of fiber and having a sweet tooth. The weight gain can be attributed
in part due to aging but also a diet high in carbohydrates and fat.
I am at risk for osteoporosis due to the fact that I do not have enough calcium or iron in my diet and
lead a fairly sedentary lifestyle. Increasing my intake of milk and dairy products will meet the
nutritional recommendations and a program of weight bearing exercise will also contribute to reducing
the risk of this disease. Additionally, I will schedule a bone density test as part of my next physical
exam as an integral part of assessing my bone status for this disease.

Character Analysis In Grand Torino By Clint Eastwood
Grand Tornio begins as Clint Eastwood, taking on the character Walt Kowalski an unhappy military
veteran in which his wife had just passed away. Walt attempts to reconnect with his children but he
realizes their selfish and lack compassion for others. His family doesn t understand bravery nor
hardships that he has overcome in the past. In Grand Torino, Eastwood conveys a sense of aspiration
throughout the movie, while developing strong relations between his neighbors.
One connection Walt makes with his neighbors is that they are passionate for using ethical reasoning.
For example in Grand Torino, Thao helped Mrs.V. by picking up her groceries, after some
neighborhood kids were being disrespectful. After this Walt said How about that , the particular scene
shows Eastwood has some type of aspiration for society, which this actually makes him joyful for the
boy because most people would have been spectating and would have ignored the situation.
Additionally, this depicts that Thao has concern for others and doesn t just pressure into everyone else
s opinion. Clint Eastwood reveals that he has a sense of compassion in Grand Torino. For example, he
felt a desire to save Sue from the neighborhood gang. Eastwood demonstrates a comparison through
the character he plays and the Hmong family. The Hmong Family believed it was moral to provide
punishment. Walt can be perceived as old fashion when he says he s old school . In Grand Torino,

Killing Reagan By Bill O Reilly And Martin Dugard
Killing Reagan was wrote by Bill O Reilly and Martin Dugard as a part of their series to talk about the
deaths, assassination, and near deaths of certain historical people. O Reilly and Dugard write about the
events leading up to the attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan including discussing the attempted
assassin, John Hinckley, and the events after up until his death. The authors present the viewpoint as if
one were there to witness the lives of the people in the book. Killing Reagan talks about the politics
during Reagan s life and presidency to tell about who Ronald Reagan was and his ideas that
influenced a presidency. Some things a reader may want to know before starting this book is a basic
idea of the events and politics of the twentieth century, especially those after WWII. Overall, it is easy
for just about anyone to understand.
Killing Reagan starts the prologue with the sentence The man who has one minute to live is no longer
confused (O Reilly and Dugard 1) as he discusses who is in the room with him, including his two kids,
Ron and Patti, and his wife, Nancy Reagan. The authors also talk about what caused his death,
dementia that started ten years ago that caused him to not make a public appearance in that time
period. The authors go into the first chapter discussing the winning debate that probably gave him the
presidency that happened a week before the election. The authors then talk about how former
President Carter won past debates against Gerald R.

Introduction The middle of the sixteenth century through the eighteenth century was the beginning of
Europe s two incredible revolutions which are the British and French Revolutions. The British

the British and French Revolutions that make them different from one another. For example the
primary factor that led to the British Revolution was the power of religion. While, the French
Revolution was based upon feudalism as well as the inequality of the third estate. There are many
different aspects of the British and French Revolutions that make one stand out from the other and
together they are both marked as important events that occurred in European history. Background of
the British Revolution In order to depict the differences between the British Revolution and French

literally born out of two worlds: her mother was white, while her father was a full blooded Navajo.
Her identity was split in between cultures. In Navajo she would be called an alni meaning a person

meant to be downtrodden and broken, treated like a lesser human being by white people. Unlike
Richard Rodriguez who wished to be white, she was ashamed of her Caucasian maternity and longed
to be a full blooded Navajo.
The difference in the two cultures became even more apparent when she left the Navajo Nation to
study at Dartmouth and then later at Stanford. Alvord explains every Navajo was strongly discouraged
from drawing attention to him or herself and was taught very early on to be modest and not to boast.
This becomes very problematic for her in classes where she is expected to participate and be
competitive. In Navajo culture it is even considered rude to look someone in the eyes. So, Alvord

while: why does he do them? Does he have free will? Little did he know that philosophers from all
over the world and all different time periods would be wondering the same question as him: are our
actions a choice, or are they written in stone? Billy Pilgrim, the subject of the book Slaughterhouse
Five, by Kurt Vonnegut, claims that he believes that free will does not exist and repeats the words so it
goes whenever someone dies, but he may actually believe that free will exists because he cries when
he sees horses that are in pain, and he fails to explain what exactly chooses when he jumps in time. ...

Billy later learns and believes that the Tralfamadorians see the universe in four dimensions; they can
see where each star has been and where it is going. This would only be possible if free will did not
exist, otherwise, there would be no way to know the future for certain. Billy also could have adopted
the idea of free will because he feels lucky that everyone was killed but Billy and the copilot when a
plane Billy was on crashed. He feels guilty for the deaths of the others and takes that guilt off of his
own shoulders by believing in free will. Billy later goes back in time to his childhood when he was
only a 12 year old boy. If free will exists, he does not have to wet his pants or be scared of the ceiling
[falling] in the Caverns, but still does. Instead, Billy does the exact same things as he did the first time
experiencing this, because he does not (or at least believes he does not) have free

The Importance Of The National Park System
Although sites in the National Park System can sometimes be difficult to categorize due to their
diversity, each site is given a designation that attempts to best capture the nature and uses of site. As
determined by Congress in 1970, all units within the system have equal legal standing. This means
that all sites within the National Park System have equal protection under the law. The National Park
System falls under the purview of the Department of the Interior.
Designations within the National Park System include:
* National Park * National Historical Park * National Recreation Area * National Parkway
* National Monument * National Memorial * National Seashore * National Trail
* National Preserve * National Battlefield * National Lakeshore * Affiliated Areas
* National Historic Site * National Cemetery * National River * Other Designations
Information on the National Park and National Monument designation are detailed in following pages.
For more information on other designations, please visit the National Park Service website here.
National Parks
In 1872, the first ever national park Yellowstone (pictured to the right) was established as a public
good for the benefit and enjoyment of the people. Yellowstone s founding sparked a worldwide
movement to preserve natural spaces for the enjoyment and enrichment of the public.
Though the concept of a national park first originated in the United States, today there over 1,000
parks in over 100 nations around the

Anne Frank Patience
With Waiting Comes Reward Good things will come as long as you can be patient. Patience shows
through the texts The Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, The People
Could Fly by Virginia Hamilton, and Invictus by William Earnest Henly. Patience is key. As long as
you can be patient, you can get through any situation. The first example of patience is Mr. Frank from
The Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett. The Diary of Anne Frank tells a
story about a young girl with a diary living in an Annex, trying to hide from Nazis so she doesn t have
to go to forced labor and death camps. On page 430, Mr. Frank says, If we wait patiently, quietly, I
believe that help will come. Because Mr. Frank is being the patient one he will be able to make it
through tough times. Mr. Frank stayed strong and waited, so he may make it which ... Show more

The People Could Fly tells a story about slaves who worked all day long but they stayed patient and
had hope, yet they were able to escape. On page 361, it says, Hadn t the time to teach them to fly, they
must wait for a chance to run. I chose this quote because Toby tells them if they can be patient long
enough they will get their chance to get away. The others will wait and eventually get away, which
shows patience. Finally the last example of patience is Invictus by William Earnest Henley. Invictus
tells a story about a man determined never to change his will or his fate. On line 11, he says, and yet
the menace of the years. Menace means to be threatened, so over the years he must have been
threatened a lot. I believe that the quote means you can over come any obstacle with enough patience.
Another quote I found that supports my theme is, on line 13, It matters not how straight the gate. This
means he has slim chances, but I believe that with patience he can defeat the low odds and make it
through hard

Essay on 19th-Century Medicine in the United Kingdom
19th Century Medicine in the United Kingdom
Professor comments: In this paper, the student synthesizes several sources about nineteenth century
medicine and medical education into a focused and coherent essay that provides information about
aspects of this topic especially relevant to understanding Lydgate s position in Middlemarch: the
differences among physicians, apothecaries, and surgeons, both in terms of training and duties on the
one hand, social status on the other; the processes by which someone obtained a medical education
and became a licensed practitioner; and the differences in English, Scottish, and French training. In
doing so, the student displays an awareness of the importance of the contextual material for more than

Part of the problem with educating and licensing doctors was in the conflicting struggle for rights and
power between licensing bodies; there were nineteen of them in the United Kingdom alone. There was
also no representation of any reputable doctors within the medical universities and corporations that
voted in Parliamentary elections. By the end of the century, medical training facilities were forced to
upgrade their standards due to pressure within some parts of the medical community and because
discoveries in fields like chemistry and physics ultimately led to advances in medicine.
Early nineteenth century medical training was extremely diverse. While some practitioners held
university degrees from the most respected medical colleges of the world, some were apprenticed to
apothecaries where they spent most of their time capping bottles and rolling pills (Youngson 12). Still
others were quacks and drug peddlers who practiced freely with no legal sanctions against them.
There was, in the United Kingdom, a defined social structure of medical men which was divided into
three orders. There were three divisions of legitimate medical groups. They were the Royal College of
Physician, the Royal College of Surgeons, and the Society of Apothecaries. These

The Eastern Slope Of The Mingus Mountain
On the eastern slope of the Mingus Mountain in central Arizona sits the town of Jerome. Starting its
life as a mining town in the late 1800 s, Jerome, at one time, was known as the Wickedest Town in the
West. Between its bars, brothels, and gambling establishments, Jerome became one of the one of the
most accomplished locales in separating miners from their money.
With the dawn of the 1900 s, Jerome became more dignified with the establishment of churches,
schools, and businesses catering to its growing population. It even had its own post office and five car
dealerships. At its peak, Jerome boasted over 15,000 residents with 3000 miners employed in the
town.
By the 1950 s, the local mining industry had all but collapsed and the population dwindled to about
100 people. The perseverance of the remaining residents to prevent Jerome from becoming just
another ghost town, however, led to recognition of the town as a National Historic Site. Over the next
couple decades, Jerome went from being a downward spiraling, abandoned mining town to a major
central Arizona tourist destination.
Today, Jerome is a tourist mecca with numerous restaurants, galleries, wine tasting rooms, and unique
shops. A literal Ghost Town aspect of Jerome exists today in the form of local supernatural legends
and ghost tours. With its proximity to Prescott, Sedona, Flagstaff, and Interstate 17 and its unique
shops and restaurants, Jerome is a must see destination when traveling in central Arizona.

Analysis Of The New York Times Article By Gary Allan Fine
The past should never be altered. The New York Times article by Gary Allan Fine is about the
National Collegiate Athletic Association (N.C.A.A.) changing history by taking away the Penn State
football victories from 1998 2011. History was changed by making the losers of these football games
the winners. In George Orwell s 1984, the past is always being changed or corrected . Big Brother
alters the past so that he always appears right. The N.C.A.A. is not correct for vacating Penn State s
win and the novel 1984 relates to this because the past is always being changed. The N.C.A.A. took
away wins from the Penn State Football Team because of the coaches actions not the players actions,
so this is wrong. The New York Times article explains

Martin Luther King Rhetorical Analysis
Entitled Hierarchy We must use time wisely and forever realize that the time is always ripe to do right,
petitioned Nelson Mandela. Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. knew the essence of time in Birmingham
Alabama, 1963. He brought to his audience ideals of abolishing segregation that thrived in the South
and proactively sought to make change. Using a library of rhetorical devices, such as allusions, pathos,
and similes, King connected his reader to the things he had to address. King felt it very vital to address
the wrongdoing s of the prejudice South. In so, he makes a lot of allusions to religious ideals, to
connect these people with their religious wrongdoing. With religious allusions, Doctor king was able
to put a new take on segregation. In paragraph 3, he timed this phrase, Injustice anywhere is a threat to
injustice everywhere. Making the point, just because in one part of the country there is racism,
segregation, prejudice, etc., this could lead to something much worse: Segregation everywhere.
Stopping the prejudice now could make a positive impact on future generations, which king petitioned
and managed to do. In paragraph 3, king dedicates the entire paragraph to comparing himself to the
apostles, carrying the word of God. He uses this to not only compare himself to these prophets, but to
show he too will carry his word. King s word is not only of God, but to abolish the old prejudice and
segregation of the South; also to go at any length to fulfill this dream. In

Examples Of Civil Disobedience
Can injustices be confronted without violence? Throughout history most conflicts have been depicted
as fights where people would rather use the sword than the pen. But in some cases people use civil
disobedience and non cooperation against the injustices. One case being that of the independence of
India, led by Mohandas K. Gandhi. He used his on method of non violence he called Satyagraha,
which was sanskrit for truth and force. He use Satyagraha as a tool to degrade the sword and shackles
that the British empire had on India. An example of Gandhi using civil disobedience was in the Dandi
Salt march where he traveled to the Arabian Sea with his followers to defy British policy by making
salt from seawater and an example of non cooperation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And so Richard Nixon thought that Pinochet was one of the good guys so the United States helped
Pinochet seize power. Then after Pinochet gained power turned around and made Chile to be ruled
under a military dictatorship. He used repressive measures to combat the opposition of his rule, he
manipulated the policies, society, economy, family, religion, culture, and the press, he even killed
thousands of people. The people of chile were getting fed up on what was happening so on May 11,
1983 they protested against the Chilean regime May 11 was an explosion of joy and excitement,
because people were amazed that they were raising their voices , this displays that they lost the fear
that Pinochet was imposing and they finally gained courage to speak their minds. Police responded
with violence, several protesters were killed and 600 were arrested. Because the protest got attention
from the government they began to have monthly protests. They also did lightning protests which
consisted of a small group of people chanting slogans or leaving leaflets on opposing the rule of
Pinochet. Since it was a small group of people for the lightning protests they could disperse before the
police arrived. When the effect of the protests seemed degrading the people looked for a state
sanctioned vote. On October 5th 1988 a national plebiscite was held to see if whether Pinochet should
continue his presidency. Ultimately Pinochet lost and in March 10, 1990 he left office and was
replaced with a president who was democratically

Origins And Background Of Greek Mythology And Superheroes
Origins and Background of Greek Mythology and Superheroes
Authors have to have inspiration, some base their work off of or some already existing idea that they
can put their own spin on. They change their heroes enough so that it s not noticeable, but parallels are
obvious. Mello, Carolina. The New Wonder Woman and Greek Mythology. Women Write About
Comics. N.p., 13 May 2014. Web. 28 Mar. 2017.
Many tales in Greek mythology concern the lives of heroes, who rank somewhere between men and
gods. They were stronger and braver than other men and achieved great deeds, but they lacked the
magic or supernatural powers of the gods and their deeds were accomplished by the use of human
characteristics courage, strength, and endurance.

bullies, he was generally embarrassed and demeaned as Heracles was. And then when he was injected

pain. While it was for a split second, it still stands that he suffered pain during his final ascension, just
as Heracles did.
Batman and Homer s Odysseus
Neilson, Christine A. Ancient and Modern Super Heroes. Academia.edu. N.p., 23 Sept. 2013.Web. 27
Mar. 2017. Like Homer s Odysseus, Batman exudes mythological deity characteristics, including
strength, courage, and selflessness. Batman is today what Homer s Odysseus is to ancient Greece. He
embodies what mythological characters stand for during the times of ancient Greece. Batman and
Odysseus embark on their quests as selfless acts to accomplish a specific goal. Batman does what he
does in attempt to make his city a safer, better place to live, much like the men and women on the
frontlines of the battlefield, or a hero like Odysseus.

  • 2. Essay On How To Solve The Sparse Approximate Dft Problem The first work that tried to solve the sparse approximate DFT problem can be found in cite{NYN93}, in which they designed an algorithm based on Hadamard Transform, i.e. the Fourier transform over the Boolean cube. A polynomial time algorithm to interpolates a sparse polynomial was developed in cite{Y95}. The method in this paper inspired the authors of cite{GMS05}, in which they described an algorithm that can be used to approximate DFT when $N$ is a power of 2. In the early 2000s, people paid a lot of attention to the sparse approximation problem in Fourier space. The first algorithm with sub linear runtime and the sub sampling property was given in cite{GGIMM02}. In which they give a randomized algorithm with runtime poly($s, log N, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, it needs to point out that the runtime of the algorithm in cite{AGS03} has a high dependence on sparsity compare with cite{GGIMM02} and cite{GMS05}. All the SFT algorithms above are randomized algorithms. This means they have small probability to fail to give the correct or optimal recovery on each input signal. Thus, they are not appropriate for long lived failure intolerant applications. The first deterministic sub linear time SFT algorithm was developed in cite{I08} based on the deterministic Compressed Sensing results of Cormode and Muthukrishnan (CM)cite{RSR69}cite{CM05}cite{CM06}. A simpler optimized version of this algorithm was given in cite{I10}, which has similar runtime/sampling bounds ($mathcal{O}(s^2 log ^4 N)$) to the one in cite{GMS05}. Later, in cite{I11}, a further modified SFT algorithm was provided. It showed simple methods for extending the improved sparse Fourier transforms to higher dimensional settings. More specifically, the algorithm can find the near optimal $s$ term approximation for any given input function, $f: [0,2pi]^{D} rightarrow C$ in $mathcal{O}(s^2 D^4)$ time (neglecting logarithmic factors). The algorithms in cite{I08}cite{I10}cite{I11} are all aliasing based search algorithm cite{indyk_overview}, which means they rely on the combinatorial properties of aliasing among frequencies in sub samples DFTs. For example, after seeing the slogan, if the person sees a sign for Prince Edward Island, farms, red sand, etc they will think of the slogan, creating a form situational desire. • 4. A Romantic, Young Adult Novel, Paper Towns by John Green Paper Towns by John Green is a somewhat romantic young adult novel. The novel s overlying central idea is that people are not made of paper. They have dimensions; unexposed sides to themselves that the world may never see. A person can never truly be known, because the human mind is a complex thing, filled with nooks and crannies never to be exposed. Quentin, a nerdy high school senior, is, and always has been, infatuated with his next door neighbor Margo Roth Spiegelman. Quentin describes this situation by saying, My miracle was this: out of all the houses in all the subdivision of Florida, I ended up living next to Margo Roth Spiegelman (Green 1). Previously best friends, the two have become largely independent of one another, almost never speaking or even sharing a friendly glance. Until one night, Margo breaks into Q s window and takes him on a wild night of revenge against her enemies. Expecting to run into Margo at school the next day, Quentin finds that she has gone missing, presumably run away. After learning about Margo s tendency of leaving breadcrumb trails, Q soon discovers the clues, and they are for him. As a whole, the novel is quite cleverly broken up into three parts; The Strings, The Grass, and The Vessel. Each part of the novel corresponds with a metaphor of the same name. The first metaphor, the strings, takes a dark look at things. After the young Q and Margo find the body of a man who killed himself, Margo says, Maybe all the strings ... It has become a part of life for the employees, as life today has become so complex at home as well as outside that it is impossible to avoid stress. Selye [1936] defines stress as a dynamic activity wherein an individual is confronted with an opportunity, constraint or demand . Organisational stress arises due to lack of person environment fit. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Occupational stress is an increasingly important occupational health problem and a significant cause of economic loss. Occupational stress may produce both overt psychological and physiologic disabilities. However it may also cause subtle manifestation of morbidity that can affect personal well being and productivity (Quick, Murphy, Hurrel and Orman, 1992). A job stressed individual is likely to have greater job dissatisfaction, increased absenteeism, increased frequency of drinking and smoking, increase in negative psychological symptoms and reduced aspirations and self esteem (Jick and Payne, 1980). The use of role concepts suggests that occupational stress is associated with individual, interpersonal and structural variables (Kutz and Kahn, 1978; Whetten, 1978). Studies on burnout found that, it is related to exhaustion and work over load factors in various organisations (Green and Walkey, 1988; Chermiss, 1980; Freudenberger, 1977, 1980). Stress on the job is costly for employers, reflected in lower productivity, reduced motivation and job skills, and increased and accidents. • 8. Sound Of Waves Analysis Throughout the novel The Sound of Waves, women are portrayed differently than men and this divide is apparent in the entirety of the work. Yukio Mishima creates a society that is so odd to anyone living in a more progressive culture because he writes about an island that has it s inhabitants criticize people who see women as equals. In this novel, women are seen as objects, discouraged from being educated and are restricted and told to be a certain thing or act a certain way in order to fit in. Women are forced to follow society s rules and can not be who they want to be. On the island, women are treated as objects and are controlled by men. This is shown when Hatsue is given away to be adopted by her father because he does not need her, but after his son passes away he has her returned because he now has a use for her. This shows that women are treated as lesser and that her father thinks he can do whatever he wants. In the book, one of Shinji s friends explains the situation, Uncle Teru had four girls and one boy. Said he had more than enough of girls, so he married three of them off and let the other one be adopted away... but then, what do you know, that only son of his, Matsu, dies of lung sickness last year. Being a widower, Uncle Teru starts feeling lonely. The World Health Organisation (2015) has classed obesity as a worldwide epidemic that has seen numbers double since the 1980 s. The WHO (2015) define obesity as an individual having a Body Mass Index equal or higher than 30 and has been linked to non communicable diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, muscoskeletal and some cancers. Mooney et al (2015) further states that the functionalist perspective also focuses on how society is interconnected and how each part of society influences and in turn is influenced by the other parts. The doctors and nurses influence the patients they come in contact with and the rationale for the scheme in regards to the staff is that they should practice what they preach before they challenge the public s unhealthy lifestyles. • 11. Gravimetric Determination of Calcium Gravimetric Determination of Calcium ABSTRACT Determining the mass of a pure compound is a method of a gravimetric analysis. One of the gravimetric analyses is the precipitation; it is a method of separating the analyte from the unknown sample as a precipitate where it will be filtered and converted into a known composition that can be weighed to determine its mass (Skoog et al, 2013). Determining the mass of calcium by using gravimetric analysis was the objective of the experiment. A 25 mL of unknown sample was used to analyze its calcium component. This sample was diluted with 25mL of distilled water in a beaker. It was converted into a soluble precipitate by adding 25 mL of ammonium oxalate solution and 15 g of solid urea. Since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We made sure to rinse the glass rod before removing it to the beaker. Then we added up 15 g of solid urea to each sample. We boiled the solution for 30 minutes up until the indicator turns yellow. After boiling, we filtered it each through a funnel. The remaining solid from the beaker will be transfer to the funnel by adding 3mL of ice cold water to the beaker. We made sure that all of the precipitate has been transferred. After that, we used 10 mL of ice cold water to rinse each beaker and pour the washings over the precipitate. We transferred the precipitate in to the petridish, but before that we weighted first the petridish with the filter paper so that we can get the grams of the CaC2O4 2H2O precipitate later. We dried the precipitate in an oven set at 105oC for 1 hour. After that, we placed it inside the desiccator for 30 minutes to cool down the heat. Then instantly we weigh the petridish with CaC2O4 2H2O precipitate. In order to get the weight CaC2O4 2H2O precipitate, we subtracted the mass of the petridish alone from the mass of the petridish with CaC2O4 2H2O precipitate. And for determining the weight of Ca in the CaC2O4 2H2O precipitate, we use stoichiometry. We also computed for the average weight of calcium. III. At the same time, there are more than 500 other institutions, including university colleges, branch campuses of local and overseas institutions, open universities and other institutions with non university status. Student enrolment had sky rocketed. In 2002, the total number of students enrolled in higher institutions was 576,439 and enrolment had increased to 748,797 in 2007. With the expansion of higher education, greater attention has to be paid to the labor market prospects since imbalances may be created between higher education and labor market demands (Kartz Gerro Yaish, 2003; Teichler, 2000). Specifically, there have been concerns about the level of graduate unemployment, the transition from higher education to work and the problems of job mismatches (Kougioumoutzaki Kalamatianou, 2008). Although the unemployment rate in Malaysia is always low compared to the United States or European countries, there are great concerns for unemployment. This is due to the fact that currently, there is no unemployment insurance or assistance available in the country. Hence an increase in the unemployment rate may lead to an increased crime rate. The employees resent management for not listening to their ideas regarding process improvement. Clearly, the insubordination and abuse of company resources cannot be allowed to continue. Staff Mismanagement And finally, there is the issue of staff mismanagement. The supervisor, Keith Frazier, is only checking in with this department one to two times per week. This lack of management can be attributed to the following: 1. Mr. Frazier does not respect the type of work done by this department. 2. Mr. Frazier fears confrontation. Employees choose to leave organizations both voluntarily and involuntarily dependent on a wide multitude of circumstances (Noe et al., 2011). Regardless of the reason for separation, employee turnover comprises of both direct and indirect costs that financially impact an organization. There are four basic cost categories related to employee turnover: separation, replacement, training, and productivity (Source?). Separation costs are expenses that are caused when employees or organizations choose to end their partnership and include expenses such as unemployment compensation, legal settlements, extended benefits, and the cost of conducting exit interviews. Replacement costs are the expenses required to refill the vacant position. These costs include items such as position advertisement, recruitment costs, costs of screening and interviewing employees, and any hiring or signing bonuses expensed to fill the open role. Training costs include the time and effort needed from trainers, supervisors, and co workers to educate employees. Lastly productivity costs include lower productivity of employees prior to leaving the organization, reduced productivity and increased labor expenses of remaining employees to cover the open positions, morale and reputation issues created by employee losses, increased error rates of new employees, and lost knowledge and efficiency of experienced employee that leave ... • 16. Global Information Systems ( Gis ) Global Information Systems In this critical essay, I have tried to identify the major processes of designing, developing, and implementing Global Information Systems (GIS). I have also provided the discussion of how the level of Global Information Infrastructures (GII) affects the design, development, and implementation of GIS, and how these processes differ from those in a domestic context. Finally, I have also explained how firms should employ appropriate GII to support these processes. Design, Develop and Implement Global Information Systems Implementing the GIS is a huge challenge for many multi national organizations. There are numerous reasons for which a GIS is required, for example, to provide the base IT support in each and every country, where the business units of the organization are located. A properly designed, developed, and implemented GIS helps exchanging information globally, and has also been flexible enough to provide local features and functionalities (Markus, 2007). An iterative approach is recommended at each phase of design, development, and implementation of a GIS. Throughout the system development process a close connection between the end users, the system analysts, and the technical team becomes a high priority. The end users should be allowed to select, and prioritize the most important requirements. The system analysts should be able to understand and translate the non technical language of end users to the language understandable by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She was literally born out of two worlds: her mother was white, while her father was a full blooded Navajo. Her identity was split in between cultures. In Navajo she would be called an alni meaning a person who is half. Her identity is very much affected by language so when she is labeled as an alni and consequently accepted by neither whites nor Navajos. She was rarely invited to play with the Navajo girls her age and faced racial prejudice from non Navajos. Early in life she learned, to be Navajo meant to be downtrodden and broken, treated like a lesser human being by white people. Unlike Richard Rodriguez who wished to be white, she was ashamed of her Caucasian maternity and longed to be a full blooded Navajo. The difference in the two cultures became even more apparent when she left the Navajo Nation to study at Dartmouth and then later at Stanford. Alvord explains every Navajo was strongly discouraged from drawing attention to him or herself and was taught very early on to be modest and not to boast. This becomes very problematic for her in classes where she is expected to participate and be competitive. In Navajo culture it is even considered rude to look someone in the eyes. So, Alvord would sit in class, staring down at her desk, trying to make herself invisible. Many of her teachers took her avoidance and lack of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Free Will In Pilgrim s Slaughterhouse Five An old Greek man named Democritus sits down on a moist log in the year 400 BC to think about his actions: not just his actions, but the actions of everyone around him. It has been troubling him for a while: why does he do them? Does he have free will? Little did he know that philosophers from all over the world and all different time periods would be wondering the same question as him: are our actions a choice, or are they written in stone? Billy Pilgrim, the subject of the book Slaughterhouse Five, by Kurt Vonnegut, claims that he believes that free will does not exist and repeats the words so it goes whenever someone dies, but he may actually believe that free will exists because he cries when he sees horses that are in pain, and he fails to explain what exactly chooses when he jumps in time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Billy later learns and believes that the Tralfamadorians see the universe in four dimensions; they can see where each star has been and where it is going. This would only be possible if free will did not exist, otherwise, there would be no way to know the future for certain. Billy also could have adopted the idea of free will because he feels lucky that everyone was killed but Billy and the copilot when a plane Billy was on crashed. He feels guilty for the deaths of the others and takes that guilt off of his own shoulders by believing in free will. Billy later goes back in time to his childhood when he was only a 12 year old boy. If free will exists, he does not have to wet his pants or be scared of the ceiling [falling] in the Caverns, but still does. Instead, Billy does the exact same things as he did the first time experiencing this, because he does not (or at least believes he does not) have free ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Patience shows through the texts The Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, The People Could Fly by Virginia Hamilton, and Invictus by William Earnest Henly. Patience is key. As long as you can be patient, you can get through any situation. The first example of patience is Mr. Frank from The Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett. The Diary of Anne Frank tells a story about a young girl with a diary living in an Annex, trying to hide from Nazis so she doesn t have to go to forced labor and death camps. On page 430, Mr. Frank says, If we wait patiently, quietly, I believe that help will come. Because Mr. Frank is being the patient one he will be able to make it through tough times. The People Could Fly tells a story about slaves who worked all day long but they stayed patient and had hope, yet they were able to escape. On page 361, it says, Hadn t the time to teach them to fly, they must wait for a chance to run. I chose this quote because Toby tells them if they can be patient long enough they will get their chance to get away. The others will wait and eventually get away, which shows patience. Finally the last example of patience is Invictus by William Earnest Henley. Invictus tells a story about a man determined never to change his will or his fate. On line 11, he says, and yet the menace of the years. Menace means to be threatened, so over the years he must have been threatened a lot. I believe that the quote means you can over come any obstacle with enough patience. Another quote I found that supports my theme is, on line 13, It matters not how straight the gate. Part of the problem with educating and licensing doctors was in the conflicting struggle for rights and power between licensing bodies; there were nineteen of them in the United Kingdom alone. There was also no representation of any reputable doctors within the medical universities and corporations that voted in Parliamentary elections. By the end of the century, medical training facilities were forced to upgrade their standards due to pressure within some parts of the medical community and because discoveries in fields like chemistry and physics ultimately led to advances in medicine. Early nineteenth century medical training was extremely diverse. While some practitioners held university degrees from the most respected medical colleges of the world, some were apprenticed to apothecaries where they spent most of their time capping bottles and rolling pills (Youngson 12). Still others were quacks and drug peddlers who practiced freely with no legal sanctions against them. • 46. The Eastern Slope Of The Mingus Mountain On the eastern slope of the Mingus Mountain in central Arizona sits the town of Jerome. Starting its life as a mining town in the late 1800 s, Jerome, at one time, was known as the Wickedest Town in the West. Between its bars, brothels, and gambling establishments, Jerome became one of the one of the most accomplished locales in separating miners from their money. With the dawn of the 1900 s, Jerome became more dignified with the establishment of churches, schools, and businesses catering to its growing population. It even had its own post office and five car dealerships. At its peak, Jerome boasted over 15,000 residents with 3000 miners employed in the town. By the 1950 s, the local mining industry had all but collapsed and the population dwindled to about 100 people. The perseverance of the remaining residents to prevent Jerome from becoming just another ghost town, however, led to recognition of the town as a National Historic Site. Over the next couple decades, Jerome went from being a downward spiraling, abandoned mining town to a major central Arizona tourist destination. Today, Jerome is a tourist mecca with numerous restaurants, galleries, wine tasting rooms, and unique shops. A literal Ghost Town aspect of Jerome exists today in the form of local supernatural legends and ghost tours. • 48. Martin Luther King Rhetorical Analysis Entitled Hierarchy We must use time wisely and forever realize that the time is always ripe to do right, petitioned Nelson Mandela. Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. knew the essence of time in Birmingham Alabama, 1963. He brought to his audience ideals of abolishing segregation that thrived in the South and proactively sought to make change. Using a library of rhetorical devices, such as allusions, pathos, and similes, King connected his reader to the things he had to address. King felt it very vital to address the wrongdoing s of the prejudice South. In so, he makes a lot of allusions to religious ideals, to connect these people with their religious wrongdoing. With religious allusions, Doctor king was able to put a new take on segregation. In paragraph 3, he timed this phrase, Injustice anywhere is a threat to injustice everywhere. Making the point, just because in one part of the country there is racism, segregation, prejudice, etc., this could lead to something much worse: Segregation everywhere. Stopping the prejudice now could make a positive impact on future generations, which king petitioned and managed to do. In paragraph 3, king dedicates the entire paragraph to comparing himself to the apostles, carrying the word of God. He uses this to not only compare himself to these prophets, but to show he too will carry his word. King s word is not only of God, but to abolish the old prejudice and segregation of the South; also to go at any length to fulfill this dream. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
