• or a large social group sharing the same spatial or social
territory...
• Societies are characterized by patterns of relationships
(social relations) between individuals who share a
distinctive culture and institutions; a given society may be
described
• as the sum total of such relationships among its
constituent of members. In the social scien

• More broadly, and especially within structuralist thought, a
society may be illustrated as an economic, social,
industrial or cultural infrastructure, made up of, yet distinct
from, a varied collection of individuals. In this regard
society can mean the objective relationships people have
with the material world and with other people, rather than
"other people" beyond the individual and their familiar
social environment
Culture:
• Culture is an umbrella term which encompasses
• the social behavior and norms found in human societies
• and knowledge, beliefs, arts, laws, customs, capabilities,
and habits of the individuals in these groups.
• Humans acquire culture through the learning processes of
enculturation and socialization, shown by the diversity of
cultures across societies.
Difference between society and culture:
• Culture provides guidelines to people on how to live.
Conversely, society is a structure that provides the way
people organise themselves. Culture comprise of beliefs,
values and practices of a group. In contrast, society
comprises of individuals who share common beliefs,
practices, customs, etc.
Features of Culture of Pakistan:
Pakistan has a rich and unique culture that has preserved
established traditions throughout history.
• Many cultural practices,
• foods, monuments, and shrines were inherited from the
rule of Muslim Mughal and Afghan emperors.
• The national dress of shalwar qamiz is originally of
Central Asian origin derived from Turko-Iranian nomadic
invaders and is today worn in all parts of Pakistan.
Culture:
• In cities western dress is also popular among the youth and
the business sector.
Festivals In Pakistan:
• There are many festivals celebrated annually in Pakistan
Independence Day (14 August), Defence of Pakistan Day (6
September), Pakistan Air Force Day (7 September)
Language:
• pakistani society is largely multilingual

Literature of Pakistan:
• The literature of Pakistan covers the literatures of
languages spread throughout the country, namely Urdu,
Sindhi, Punjabi, Pushto, Baluchi as well as English in
recent times and in the past often Persian as well.

Culture of Pakistan
PUNJAB
Introduction
• Punjab(land of five rivers) is the biggest land area of
Pakistan and popularly known for its culture. According
to population,56% of the total population of country is
situated in Punjab province. It has a total of 36 districts
and contributes approximately 50-60% of the economy.
• Punjabi culture is one of the oldest culture of world
history. The scope, history, complexity and density of
this culture is very vast.
• Some of the main areas of Punjabi culture include:
• Language, cuisine (food), dresses, sports, art and craft,
architecture, festivals, dance and music, weddings and
Punjabi literature.
• Now I will discuss these areas in detail.
Language
• Punjabi is the most spoken language in Punjab and
Pakistan. Punjabi is spoken as first language by over
44.15% of Pakistanis. Punjabi’s are dominant in key
institutions such as business, agriculture, industry and
police etc. that’s why 70% of Pakistanis can speak or
understand Punjabi. Punjabi have different dialects
such as:
• Pothwari
• Pahari
Punjabi cuisine (food)
• Punjabi people have a heavy diet as their main living is farming. Punjab has
no equal to the taste of its foods. Punjab is known as the stream of foods.
• Following list involves popular dishes which are from Punjab province.
• Chicken
• Mutton
• Saag
• Yoghurat
• Biryani, quorma Lassi
• Nan, paratha
And deserts like
• Gajar ka halwa, gulab jamun and jaleebi
Dresses
• The dresses of Punjabi people are very traditional,
bright and colourful. Punjabi dresses are the mixture of
bright colors and beauty. The cultural dress for Punjabi
men is kurta and tehmat(dhoti) lacha, khusa, now a
day’s kurta and tehmat replaced with kurta and salwar
or pajama and the cultural dress for Punjabi women is
salwar suite dupatta, Patiala salwar, gharara, parranda,
choli and salwar kameez.
Festivals in Punjab:
• Punjabi people are very warm hearted and hospitable.
There are many traditional festivals which are celebrated
by Punjabi people like Urses, fairs, basant, cattle show,
namaish (exhibitions) etc. Punjabi’s are famous all over
the country for their celebration for BASANT in spring.
Art and Craft
• Art and craft are also a part of Punjabi culture. Lahore is the
centre of handmade carpets. Multan is famous for hand
woven clothes and covers, embroidery, handmade stools,
blankets and shoes etc. Sialkot is well known for its sports
goods.
Punjabi weddings
• Punjabi weddings are the strong reflect of Punjabi culture.
Punjabi culture is rich with rituals. The wedding rituals
includes mangni, mehndi, barat , waleema and nikah etc.
The dhol is the obvious part of Punjabi weeding.Punjabi
literature
Punjabi poetry is renowned for its extremely deep meaning ,
hopeful, beautiful and exciting use of words. The large number
of Punjabi poetry works are being translated all over the world
in to many langusges.

• Waris shah is well known for his work Heer Ranjha. He is
known as the Shakespeare of Punjabi language.
• Bulleh Shah, he was a Punjabi Sufi poet and a
philosopher.

Culture of Balochistan
 Balochistan is one of the four provinces of Pakistan. It is the largest
province in terms of land area, forming the southwestern region of the
country, but is the least populated. Its provincial capital and largest city
is Quetta.
 Language
 Balochi, Urdu Pashto and Brahui are the provincial language of
Balochistan. It is the main language spoken in Balochistan, apart from
Brahui, Hazaragi, and the Balochi dialects of Pushto.
 Balochi literature
 is considered one of the richest literatures in the region. Balochi
literature owns its own alphabets which are called “Balochi Tep’’, that is
quite different from Urdu Alphabets.
 The Balochi literature is derived from Persian language. The most
important word of Balochi language are ( ‫،ء‬ِ‫،ء‬َ‫ء‬”( that help in writing and
reading balochi fluently
Festivals of Balochistan
 There are religious and social festivals celebrated by the people of
Balochistan. Two major religious festivals are Eid-ul-Azha and Eid-ul-Fiter.
On these festivals people adorn their houses, wear new dresses, cook
special dishes and visit each other.
 LIFESTYLE OF BALOCHI PEOPLE:
 People of Balochistan are generally tribal in nature same like Arabs
physically. They live in Rocky Mountains in a leather tent made of goat skin.
They wear spacious shalwars (a long baggy trouser) and a white kameez
with black colorful waistcoat and a turban on their heads.
 Balochi women wear loose dresses which are embroidered in local designs
which include Balochi silk-thread chain-stitch embroidery. Balochi
embroidery alone has 118 different basic designs.
Famous Foods
 Prominent Baloch dishes, such as the lamb-skewed Sajji, have gained
massive popularity among different parts of Pakistan including the food
hubs of Karachi and Lahore. Kaak, a rock-hard prepared bread, and is often
served with Sajji. Dampukht is also a Balochi dish which is prepared with
meat and it's cooked in fats.

 ARTS AND MUSIC:.
 There are countless musical instruments exclusive to Balochi
culture. On the verge of extinction one of the most profound
rare music sung in Balochistan is Nar Sur.
 The traditional throat singing is rare and an important
component of Balochi folk music. Nar Sur, a unique genre of
music, is found in some other parts of the world far away from
Balochistan.
 In Nar Sur, a singer narrates a folk story in a single overtone
accompanied with the playing of a twin-flute by a musician. CUSTOMS OF BALOCHISTAN:
Here are a few customs of the Baloch that are unique from the rest of the
country.
•Rasaal, Lubb (marriage customs)
•Haal (Balochi greeting)
• Haal (Balochi greeting)
•Maihrh/ Maidh (message of peace)
•Baahot (hospitality)
•Bijjar (cooperation)
•Fafan-o-kharch/Kharch-o-kaffan
 Balochi traditional games
 Many people are unaware of the local games of Balochistan. Mojol is a
game played with a set of sheep’s knee bone. There are many other games
and sports in Baloch society include chauk, and Jee.Card popular among
groups of some Baloch tribes

Sindh
Introduction of Sindhi Culture
• Sindhi culture is one of the oldest culture in the sub continent. The
sindhi culture in Pakistan is also richest this tradition includes sindhi
Topi ajrak and his own cultural dresses. Sindh has a very rich culture
that is significantly known over the world. We have historical
evidences, which manifest its deep roots in society. Hospitality,
peace-loving attitude, strong cultural and social values etc, are some
of the well-known features of Sindhi culture. As everything is subject
to change, new inventions and innovations have definitely caused
many changes in our culture from time to time.
Literature and Language
• Sindhi language emerged over a period of 2400 years. After coming
in contact with the Aryan, the language of the people of Sindh
became Indo-Aryan (Prakrit).
• Sindhi language is an antique language spoken in Pakistan and
many other parts of the world. Sindhi is Indo-Aryan language of the
historical Sindh region in the northern part of the Indian
subcontinent, spoken by the Sindhi people. Its writers have
contributed broadly in different forms of literature both in poetry and
prose. The writings of Arabs historians are contained in earliest
Sindh culture.
Lifestyle
• People of Sindh are more liable towards an agricultural
based lifestyle. The people of Sindh wear Sindhi dresses
i.e. loose kameez and the shalwar and love to eat Sindhi
food-low spices. In the deserted regions of Thar, the
itinerant way of lifestyle is usually seen where the people
move from place to place in search of drinking water
sources along with their animals.
Culture (KPK)
of Khyber Pakhtunkhwan
INTRODUCTION:
Formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province
(NWFP). Located in the north-west of the country.
Khyber Pass links the province to Afghanistan.
Established in July1,1970. Capital is Peshawar and its
area is 74521sq.km.The estimated population of KPK is
22000000.The total density is 300sq.km.
Languages:
• Urdu(national)
• Pashto(provincial)
• English(official)
• Pashto: Dominant languages of the Province. Pashto
is spoken as a first language by 15.5% (28-30 millions)
of Pakistanis. Mostly in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
• Pashto Poetry and Poets:
• Pathan are very famous for their poetry. They are very
passionate and patriotic which is obvious from their
poetry.
• Some of the famous poets are include Amir kror suri,
Khushal khan khattak, Rahman Baba, Ghani khan,
Ahmad shah durrani and many others.
Clothing:
• Pathan men usually
wear shalwar kameez
with Turban. The turban
is known as dastar
which can be
voluminous and long.
This Turban is a symbol
of honour for them.
• Women in KPK wear
long dresses ,frocks
and cover their hair with
piece of cloth.
Sports:
• Naiza bazi, Horse ridding
,Kabaddi ,Polo
• Cricket is also played a lot in
KPK. It has created world-
class sportsmen like shahid
khan Afridi, Younus khan and
many more. honour of being
the birthplace of many world-
class squash players,
including greats like Jansher
khan and Jahangir khan
Food:
• One of the most famous dishes includes tikkah,
serge,Dum Pukht, Namak Mandi karahi, sugi ka halwa,
kawa, chapali kabab, kabala palao, special long naans.
And many more.
• Tourism:
• The province of KP has countless tourist spots. All of
them could not be covered in one short.KPK are blessed
with immense tourism potential.It includes tourist spots
like District swat is a valley and an administrive district in

Society: Introduction: • A society is a group of individuals • or a large social group sharing the same spatial or social territory... • Societies are characterized by patterns of relationships (social relations) between individuals who share a distinctive culture and institutions; a given society may be described • as the sum total of such relationships among its constituent of members. Society: • More broadly, and especially within structuralist thought, a society may be illustrated as an economic, social, industrial or cultural infrastructure, made up of, yet distinct from, a varied collection of individuals. In this regard society can mean the objective relationships people have with the material world and with other people, rather than "other people" beyond the individual and their familiar social environment

Culture: • Culture is an umbrella term which encompasses • the social behavior and norms found in human societies • and knowledge, beliefs, arts, laws, customs, capabilities, and habits of the individuals in these groups. • Humans acquire culture through the learning processes of enculturation and socialization, shown by the diversity of cultures across societies.

  • 7. Difference between society and culture: • Culture provides guidelines to people on how to live. Conversely, society is a structure that provides the way people organise themselves. Culture comprise of beliefs, values and practices of a group. In contrast, society comprises of individuals who share common beliefs, practices, customs, etc.

Features of Culture of Pakistan: Pakistan has a rich and unique culture that has preserved established traditions throughout history. • Many cultural practices, • foods, monuments, and shrines were inherited from the rule of Muslim Mughal and Afghan emperors. • The national dress of shalwar qamiz is originally of Central Asian origin derived from Turko-Iranian nomadic invaders and is today worn in all parts of Pakistan.

  • 10. Literature of Pakistan: • The literature of Pakistan covers the literatures of languages spread throughout the country, namely Urdu, Sindhi, Punjabi, Pushto, Baluchi as well as English in recent times and in the past often Persian as well.

  • 13. Introduction • Punjab(land of five rivers) is the biggest land area of Pakistan and popularly known for its culture. According to population,56% of the total population of country is situated in Punjab province. It has a total of 36 districts and contributes approximately 50-60% of the economy. • Punjabi culture is one of the oldest culture of world history. The scope, history, complexity and density of this culture is very vast. • Some of the main areas of Punjabi culture include: • Language, cuisine (food), dresses, sports, art and craft, architecture, festivals, dance and music, weddings and Punjabi literature. • Now I will discuss these areas in detail.
  • 14. Language • Punjabi is the most spoken language in Punjab and Pakistan. Punjabi is spoken as first language by over 44.15% of Pakistanis. Punjabi’s are dominant in key institutions such as business, agriculture, industry and police etc. that’s why 70% of Pakistanis can speak or understand Punjabi. Punjabi have different dialects such as: • Pothwari • Pahari
  • 15. Punjabi cuisine (food) • Punjabi people have a heavy diet as their main living is farming. Punjab has no equal to the taste of its foods. Punjab is known as the stream of foods. • Following list involves popular dishes which are from Punjab province. • Chicken • Mutton • Saag • Yoghurat • Biryani, quorma Lassi • Nan, paratha And deserts like • Gajar ka halwa, gulab jamun and jaleebi
  • 16. Dresses • The dresses of Punjabi people are very traditional, bright and colourful. Punjabi dresses are the mixture of bright colors and beauty. The cultural dress for Punjabi men is kurta and tehmat(dhoti) lacha, khusa, now a day’s kurta and tehmat replaced with kurta and salwar or pajama and the cultural dress for Punjabi women is salwar suite dupatta, Patiala salwar, gharara, parranda, choli and salwar kameez.
  • 17. Festivals in Punjab: • Punjabi people are very warm hearted and hospitable. There are many traditional festivals which are celebrated by Punjabi people like Urses, fairs, basant, cattle show, namaish (exhibitions) etc. Punjabi’s are famous all over the country for their celebration for BASANT in spring.
  • 18. Art and Craft • Art and craft are also a part of Punjabi culture. Lahore is the centre of handmade carpets. Multan is famous for hand woven clothes and covers, embroidery, handmade stools, blankets and shoes etc. Sialkot is well known for its sports goods. Punjabi weddings • Punjabi weddings are the strong reflect of Punjabi culture. Punjabi culture is rich with rituals. The wedding rituals includes mangni, mehndi, barat , waleema and nikah etc. The dhol is the obvious part of Punjabi weeding.Punjabi literature Punjabi poetry is renowned for its extremely deep meaning , hopeful, beautiful and exciting use of words. The large number of Punjabi poetry works are being translated all over the world in to many langusges.

  • 20. Culture of Balochistan  Balochistan is one of the four provinces of Pakistan. It is the largest province in terms of land area, forming the southwestern region of the country, but is the least populated. Its provincial capital and largest city is Quetta.  Language  Balochi, Urdu Pashto and Brahui are the provincial language of Balochistan. It is the main language spoken in Balochistan, apart from Brahui, Hazaragi, and the Balochi dialects of Pushto.  Balochi literature  is considered one of the richest literatures in the region. Balochi literature owns its own alphabets which are called “Balochi Tep’’, that is quite different from Urdu Alphabets.  The Balochi literature is derived from Persian language. The most important word of Balochi language are ( ‫،ء‬ِ‫،ء‬َ‫ء‬”( that help in writing and reading balochi fluently
  • 21. Festivals of Balochistan  There are religious and social festivals celebrated by the people of Balochistan. Two major religious festivals are Eid-ul-Azha and Eid-ul-Fiter. On these festivals people adorn their houses, wear new dresses, cook special dishes and visit each other.  LIFESTYLE OF BALOCHI PEOPLE:  People of Balochistan are generally tribal in nature same like Arabs physically. They live in Rocky Mountains in a leather tent made of goat skin. They wear spacious shalwars (a long baggy trouser) and a white kameez with black colorful waistcoat and a turban on their heads.  Balochi women wear loose dresses which are embroidered in local designs which include Balochi silk-thread chain-stitch embroidery. Balochi embroidery alone has 118 different basic designs.
  • 22. Famous Foods  Prominent Baloch dishes, such as the lamb-skewed Sajji, have gained massive popularity among different parts of Pakistan including the food hubs of Karachi and Lahore. Kaak, a rock-hard prepared bread, and is often served with Sajji.   • 23.  ARTS AND MUSIC:.  There are countless musical instruments exclusive to Balochi culture. On the verge of extinction one of the most profound rare music sung in Balochistan is Nar Sur.  The traditional throat singing is rare and an important component of Balochi folk music. Nar Sur, a unique genre of music, is found in some other parts of the world far away from Balochistan.  In Nar Sur, a singer narrates a folk story in a single overtone accompanied with the playing of a twin-flute by a musician. CUSTOMS OF BALOCHISTAN: Here are a few customs of the Baloch that are unique from the rest of the country. •Rasaal, Lubb (marriage customs) •Haal (Balochi greeting)

Mojol is a game played with a set of sheep’s knee bone. There are many other games and sports in Baloch society include chauk, and Jee.Card popular among groups of some Baloch tribes
  • 26. Introduction of Sindhi Culture • Sindhi culture is one of the oldest culture in the sub continent. The sindhi culture in Pakistan is also richest this tradition includes sindhi Topi ajrak and his own cultural dresses. Sindh has a very rich culture that is significantly known over the world. We have historical evidences, which manifest its deep roots in society. Hospitality, peace-loving attitude, strong cultural and social values etc, are some of the well-known features of Sindhi culture. As everything is subject to change, new inventions and innovations have definitely caused many changes in our culture from time to time.
  • 27. Literature and Language • Sindhi language emerged over a period of 2400 years. After coming in contact with the Aryan, the language of the people of Sindh became Indo-Aryan (Prakrit). • Sindhi language is an antique language spoken in Pakistan and many other parts of the world. Sindhi is Indo-Aryan language of the historical Sindh region in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent, spoken by the Sindhi people. Its writers have contributed broadly in different forms of literature both in poetry and prose. The writings of Arabs historians are contained in earliest Sindh culture.
  • 28. Lifestyle • People of Sindh are more liable towards an agricultural based lifestyle. The people of Sindh wear Sindhi dresses i.e. loose kameez and the shalwar and love to eat Sindhi food-low spices. In the deserted regions of Thar, the itinerant way of lifestyle is usually seen where the people move from place to place in search of drinking water sources along with their animals.
  • 29. Culture (KPK) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwan INTRODUCTION: Formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province (NWFP). Located in the north-west of the country. Khyber Pass links the province to Afghanistan. Established in July1,1970. Capital is Peshawar and its area is 74521sq.km.The estimated population of KPK is 22000000.The total density is 300sq.km.
  • 30. Languages: • Urdu(national) • Pashto(provincial) • English(official) • Pashto: Dominant languages of the Province. Pashto is spoken as a first language by 15.5% (28-30 millions) of Pakistanis. Mostly in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa • Pashto Poetry and Poets: • Pathan are very famous for their poetry. They are very passionate and patriotic which is obvious from their poetry. • Some of the famous poets are include Amir kror suri, Khushal khan khattak, Rahman Baba, Ghani khan, Ahmad shah durrani and many others.
  • 31. Clothing: • Pathan men usually wear shalwar kameez with Turban. The turban is known as dastar which can be voluminous and long. This Turban is a symbol of honour for them. • Women in KPK wear long dresses ,frocks and cover their hair with piece of cloth.
  • 32. Sports: • Naiza bazi, Horse ridding ,Kabaddi ,Polo • Cricket is also played a lot in KPK. It has created world- class sportsmen like shahid khan Afridi, Younus khan and many more. honour of being the birthplace of many world- class squash players, including greats like Jansher khan and Jahangir khan
  • 33. Food: • One of the most famous dishes includes tikkah, serge,Dum Pukht, Namak Mandi karahi, sugi ka halwa, kawa, chapali kabab, kabala palao, special long naans. And many more. • Tourism: • The province of KP has countless tourist spots. All of them could not be covered in one short.KPK are blessed with immense tourism potential.It includes tourist spots like District swat is a valley and an administrive district in the KPK Pakistan.
