Socialized anxiety is the process by which individuals learn and adapt to the values and rules of their culture through socialization. During this process, individuals adopt the culture's ways as their own and face acceptance or punishment depending on whether their behavior is deemed acceptable or unacceptable. Adolescents with strong social anxiety strive most eagerly for approved social goals and learn most successfully as a result of the adaptive or socialized anxiety implanted in their brains through effective socialization. This anxiety can come into play in situations like getting into college, choosing a career, coping with parents' frustrated dreams, or getting a job.
