2. SUMMARY
This is a story about a prefect and a student. There was once a prefect who was
always abusing his power towards this student so the student grew up disliking
prefects in general. (schemas) One prefect always thought that prefects are
“upperclass” and better while normal students are below them (in group bias),
the prefect acts differently towards teachers than when he is with students
(explicit attitude). He always believed that he will never be in trouble while
others will be punished instead (optimistic bias). When the students tell the
teacher about it, she does not listen to the bad stuff said about the prefect, only
the good stuff. (confirmation bias)

4. SCHEMA
• A schema is a mental concept that informs a person about what to expect
from a variety of experiences and situations.
Scene 1:
The students started to dislike prefects in general
because the experiences they had with a particular
prefect affected their mental concept of a prefect.

5. INGROUP BIAS
• Ingroup bias theory suggests that we tend to give preferential treatment to
those whom we consider a part of our ingroup.
Scene 2:
The prefect does not treats normal students as how
he would to other prefects. He treats normal
students more harshly.

6. EXPLICT ATTITUDE
• A person’s conscious views toward people, objects, or concepts. That is, the
person is aware of the feelings he or she holds in a certain context.
Scene 3:
The prefect is aware of what he is doing and is
clear of who he want to please and displease.

7. OPTIMISTIC BIAS
• The optimism bias is a cognitive bias that causes a person to believe that they
are less at risk of experiencing a negative event compared to others.
Scene 4:
The prefect thinks that no matter what he does,
bad consequences will not happen to him and
others are at more risk of experiencing negative
events.

8. CONFIRMATION BIAS
• Confirmation bias (link is external) occurs from the direct influence of desire
on beliefs. When people would like a certain idea/concept to be true, they
end up believing it to be true.
Scene 5:
The teacher does not accept the idea that it is the
prefect's wrong doing because the teacher always
considers the prefect to be a good student.
