Businesses are increasingly adopting user-centered approaches to create experiences, moving UX design to be one of the core activities driving the company strategy and operations.
This is an incredibly valuable opportunity that we designers can take to step up and contribute to create the great experiences and services they envision, taking our vision, tools and understanding to a different level. But we need to learn the new skills to play at this table, a table that's often speaking a different language with a lot of politics and different stakeholders.
This presentation aims to teach others how to use the user centered design methodology known as personas.
Personas are archetypes (models) that represent groups of real users who have similar behaviors, attitudes, and goals. A persona describes an archetypical user of software as it relates to the area of focus or domain you are designing for as a lens to highlight the relevant attitudes and the specific context associated with the area of work you are doing.
The world is being transformed by new technologies, which are redefining customer expectations, enabling businesses to meet these new expectations, and changing
the way people live and work. Digital transformation, as this is commonly called, has immense potential to change consumer lives, create value for business and unlock
broader societal benefits.
The World Economic Forum launched the Digital Transformation Initiative in 2015, in collaboration with Accenture, to serve as the focal point for new opportunities and
themes arising from the latest developments in the digitalization of business and society. It supports the Forum’s broader activity around the theme of the Fourth
Industrial Revolution. Since its inception, the Initiative has analysed the impact of digital transformation across 13 industries and five cross-industry topics, to identify the
key themes that enable the value generated by digitalization to be captured for business and wider society. Drawing on these themes, we have developed a series of
imperatives for business and policy leaders that look to maximize the benefits of digitalization. We have engaged with more than 300 executives (both from leading
global firms and newer technology disruptors), government and policy leaders, and academics.
Every industry has its nuances and contextual differences, but they all share certain inhibitors to change. These include the innovator’s dilemma (the fear of
cannibalizing existing revenue models), low technology adoption rates across organizations, conservative organizational cultures, and regulatory issues. Business and
government leaders should continue to work towards addressing these challenges.
A notable outcome of this work is the development of our distinctive economic framework, which quantifies the impact of digitalization on industry and society. It can be
applied consistently at all levels of business and government to help unlock the estimated $100 trillion of value that digitalization could create over the next decade. We
have already started to leverage this framework for region-specific discussions with some governments.
We are confident that the findings from the Initiative will contribute to improving the state of the world through digital transformation, both for business and wider society.

Overview: This talk discusses a meta-scientific account of human-computer interaction (HCI) research as problem-solving. We build on the philosophy of Larry Laudan, who develops problem and solution as the foundational concepts of science. We argue that most HCI research is about three main types of problem: empirical, conceptual, and constructive. We elaborate upon Laudan’s concept of problem-solving capacity as a universal criterion for determining the progress of solutions (outcomes): Instead of asking whether research is ‘valid’ or follows the ‘right’ approach, it urges us to ask how its solutions advance our capacity to solve important problems in human use of computers. This offers a rich, generative, and ‘discipline-free’ view of HCI and resolves some existing debates about what HCI is or should be. It may also help unify efforts across nominally disparate traditions in empirical research, theory, design, and engineering.
One must be responsible, compassionate and aim for sustainable growth while leading a humanitarian cause. Nonprofits must strive for connectivity with the people, transparency of finances and visibility of effort in order to steer in a better tomorrow.

The workshop will take a look at how Bill has been able to apply Lean UX at PayPal — a place that in recent years has been the total antithesis of the lean startup idea. With very specific examples, he will share lessons learned applying lean to the full product life cycle as well as how it relates to agile development.
Finally, the workshop looks at the technology stack. In the last few years there has been an explosion of open source technology stacks that can support rapidly creating products, launching them to scale and rapidly iterating on them when live. While startups embrace these stacks from the get-go, large organizations struggle with how to embrace this change. This workshop will also look at the shift that has happened, what is driving this change, and how organizations can embrace this stack and how to marry Lean Tech with Lean UX.
My Agile 2013 session 'Rapid Product Design in the Wild'. In August 2012 Red Gate attended Kscope, a conference for Oracle developers. Instead of doing the usual product demonstrations, we turned our stand into a live lab and took Agile development processes out of the office and in front of our customers. Our stand included an area for customer research, a Kanban board and information radiators in the form of a whiteboard, blank wall and a large digital screen. Over 3 days we ran 9 sprints and conducted 25 customer interviews, using a paper prototype to get feedback. We collected invaluable information about our customers' development environments, how they work with their teams, their processes, tasks and pain points. By the end of the conference my colleague had developed an interactive HTML/CSS prototype which potential customers could evaluate. The team went through several rapid build-measure-learn cycles to improve our product concept and validate the market need.
This presentation explains the process we used and introduces the Live Design Lab Planner, a tool which helps teams to plan this type of rapid product design activity.

As such, there is a need to balance the decisions taken in autonomy by teams and the overarching service coherency. Inspired by devOps principles, designOps is a practice that aims to support people across the organization to continuously redesign their products without compromising design excellence. This talk, based on the experience of coaching design teams at different levels, explores the possibilities of moving out from heavyweight upfront analyses, reducing handoffs, and creating reliable feedback loops with end users. A new paradigm, where the ability of design is shifting from being a specific practice to genuinely becoming part of everyone’s job. A key component to enables others, designers and non-designers, to create meaningful experiences in a complex environment.
Some teams think they can be agile by using a defined process or set of practices as defined by one of the agile approaches. This is just “doing Agile.” Other teams are agile in name only – the team says it’s “doing Agile” but ends up using the same old practices and achieving the same results. Teams adopt agile for a variety of reasons, but it’s not the process or set of practices they select that produces the results they seek. Teams are most successful when they adopt a particular mindset in order to “be agile”. Join Kent McDonald as he describes this mindset through 7 key ideas based on how people and organizations work best. We’ll discuss some specific techniques you can use to adopt the mindset on your project, how the project manager role changes along with the mindset, and how to help your team move from “doing Agile” to actually “being agile”.

„Wicked Problems” are problems that are difficult or impossible to solve because of incomplete, contradictory, and changing requirements that are often difficult to recognize. In addition, complex interdependencies make it so that the effort to solve one aspect of a wicked problem may reveal or create other problems. Content managers must face these sorts of problems flexibly.
Nemetics is a methodology developed by a process engineer in India based on NEME, a play on the term MEME, and an acronym for Notice, Engage, Mull, Exchange. It is also an attitude, a way of seeing, and a way of collaborating.
It is not about tools and techniques, but flexible ways to move and develop our faculties of
Seeing (Notice),
Feeling (Engage),
Thinking (Mull),
Doing (Exchange),
It is a kind of complexity science, based on studying interactions between:
the events that take place around us,
the behaviours of human beings and of systems that initiate any event, and the intentions and beliefs that lead to particular behaviours
