The document discusses why patient associations should use social media. It notes that patients now spend most of their time on social media and look online for health information. Patient associations need to connect with patients in the digital space by establishing a presence on popular social media sites. Maintaining a webpage can also help patient associations spread information and raise disease awareness more effectively. The presentation provides tips on how patient associations can best utilize social media and maximize their online impact.

Editor's Notes
Not only patients share their personal life and issues in the internet but they also look for health information.
Symptoms
Possible diagnosis
How to treat it
Miraculous cure for their chronic illness
As a blogger I have a lot of experience on what people look for and what they know about lupus. And not many of them know that there is a patient association that can help them. Everyday I find myself contacting patients with their associations…
Why? Because some patients associations haven’t become social… And if you are not in social media, you don´t exist. Cruel but true.
My resources and knowledge
If you do it something, do it well. Joining a social network does not only means signing up but getting the best of it both you and the people following you.
Don´t join several social networks at the same time. Gain experience, followers and be outstanding one at a time. Being in too many networks may mean not enough time to attend properly all of them.
Where the people I want to reach is?
There are many social networks and maybe internet has no limits… but we, as associations, do have limits (shame!). Choose well where you want to be.
We will look into this matter later on ;-).
What kind of information I want to share
The e-health has no limits! We can share photos, our activities, videos or simply say hello to the world. What kind of information do you want to share? Learn what each network is used for:
