Social Media
By Autumn Dennis-Stephens
The Objective
• The first objective of this topic
would be to investigate the pros and
cons of social media and the effects
that it can have on individuals,
particularly teenagers.
• Our aim would be to look at various
aspects within social media such as
Cyberbullying, Catfishing, and women
and pressures from the media.
Strengths
• It could raise
awareness on the
dangers of social
media and how it is
affecting the
younger generation.
• It may even help to
reduce
cyberbullying/variou
s issues within the
social media world.
Weaknesses
• There are already
many documentaries
which cover this
topic.
• It can be too broad
– hard to narrow it
down to one single
element of social
media.
• May not have the
desired effect on
individuals and have
no impact on them.
The Strengths and
Weaknesses
The Target Audience
• Seeing as the documentary would be based on
teenagers the target audience would be 15-17 year
old boys and girls who are likely to have
experienced the negative impacts of social media.
• Class would also be an important area to take into
consideration, as not every teenager would have
access to the Internet or own a smartphone.
• By using subjects who are the same age as the
target audience, it makes the documentary more
relatable which would cause more of a lasting
impact on the viewers.
• Lifestyle: Active users of Social Media,
Interested in current affairs.
Filming Locations
• One of the locations for filming a
documentary on social media could be the
LRC at college. The main reason for this
is that the computers could be good as
they are representative of social media
and it could make a good setting to
interview an expert.
• Another good location could be a
technology shop such as the Apple Store in
Solihull.
Experts
The experts that could be used to
talk about social media could be:
•a Police officer
•a member of staff at the Apple
Store/a manager
•a teacher at college
It is important that the experts
have clear knowledge into the
effects of social media and have
come across various incidents in
the past.
Voxpops
We could get footage of teenagers
talking about their opinions of
social media and whether they
have had negative or positive
experiences with it. Topics to
discuss could include
cyberbullying, being catfished
etc. or stalking/fake profiles
vs. confidence boosting and
meeting new people.
