2. The ITDPs are generally contiguous areas of the size of a Tehsil or Block
or more in which the ST population is 50% or more of the total.
On account of demographic reasons, however ITDPs. in Assam, Karnataka,
Tamil Nadu, West Bengal may be smaller or not contiguous.
Andhra Pradesh and Orissa have opted for an Agency model under the
Registration of Societies Act and the ITDPs there are known as ITD
Agencies(ITDAs).
So far 194 ITDPs/ITDAs have been delineated in the country in the states
of Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka,
Kerela, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Orissa, Rajasthan, Sikkim,
Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Union Territories of
Andaman & Nicobar Island and daman & Diu.
In Jammu and Kashmir though no ITDP has been delineated yet the areas
having ST Population in the State are treated as covered under the TSP
strategy.
To Provide more focused approach on the integrated socio-economic
development of the Scheduled Tribes (STs), the most underprivileged of
the Indian Society, in a coordinated and planned manner.
3. Launched in 2300 blocks 1978-79 in order to
deal with various dimension of rural poverty.
Extended to the National scale as a major
poverty eradication programme on 2
Oct,1980.
District Rural Development Agency (DRDA)
was set up.
To assist selected families in rural area cross
the poverty line by starting self employment
venture.
4. Target group: Small, Marginal farmers,
Agricultural labor, Rural Artisans, other families
below poverty line.
30%-SC/ST.
Income generating assets including working
capital was provided to target families through a
package of subsidies and credit.
Training of Rural youth for self employment-

Technical skill of youth from below poverty
line families so that they can start self
employment activities IRDP.
5. Training: Agriculture and allied sector.

Poverty alleviation by taking advantages of
group lending under a unified scheme.
Holistic programme for promoting micro
enterprise and self employment through
SHGs.
Beneficiaries (Swarojgaries) can be
individuals or SHGs.
7. Block-4-5 Key activities have been identified
based on resource base, occupational skills
of the people and availability of markets.
Key activities are selected with the approval
of Panchayat Samitis/ Zilla Parishad.
Aim: Establishing a large no. of micro
enterprises in rural area.
To bring the assisted poor families above the
poverty line in three years by providing them
income generating assets through a mix of
bank credit and Government subsidy.
8. Monthly income from ME sh not be less than
RS. 2000/- net at the end of 3rd year.
A 30 per cent subsidy is given under the
scheme up to an amount of Rs 7500.
SC and ST households r eligible for 50 per
cent subsidy under the scheme.

9. All aspects of Self Employment starting from
formation of SHGs to providing training,
credit, technology, infrastructure and
marketing support.

8th 5yr plan: proposed to establish 7 lakh
small units in industry, trade and service
sector to generate employment for 10 lakh
people.
9th 5yr plan: 18-35 yr unemployed youth,
Family income-Rs.40,000pa-loan 1 lakh to
open an enterprise and Rs 2 Lakh for any
other income generating activities.
11. Group initiatives: Rs 10 lakh.
15 % of the total cost was given as subsidy
and beneficiary had to put in 5 % and rest
was financed by bank.
Training: Raw material, marketing, finished
good.
SC/St beneficiaries: 22.5% and 27%.
Scheme has been merged into Prime Minister
Employment Generation Progrmme Aug 15,
2008.
