Social Action Evaluation
Are your finished pieces fit got their
intended purpose?
The first work that I produced was my logo as this would carry the
style, image and name of the rest of the campaign and would be
included on most of the posters and works produced, if not all.
Because of this I needed to ensure that the logo was strong, simple,
striking and bright in order to catch the attention of passers by and
stick in their mind as a recognisable image that they would know at
even so little as a glance. Because of this I toyed with the idea of
using the pun ‘Just Bee You’ however I felt that this would down play
the importance of the issue at hand. And so I decided to continue
the use of the rainbow to represent the LGBT community and to
create a colourful and striking image that will catch the eye of
potential audience members.
My final logo idea (bottom right) was designed to be simple as well
as bright which would more easily convey the message of my whole
campaign.
The text that I used was also simple as to more appropriately and
easily make the intentions of the campaign obvious. The phrase ‘Just
Be U’ is easy to understand and clearly defines the intentions of the
campaign without more information being needed.
I feel that these choices along with my use of colour make my work
fit for purpose because there is no room for confusion and it is
follows the convention of a blunt and obvious message being used
throughout the rest of my project.
Are my finished pieces fit for their intended purposes?
The pieces that I produced, I believe that my work was
very appropriate as I made sure that all my pieces are
based on accurate statistics and or facts. I did this to
ensure that my work would be a good source of
information for those who may look to this kind of
informative imagery to help them feel more
comfortable in their own skin.
There are many people that find works such as those
in my campaign as often a vast source of support
within their lives. These kinds of campaigns and groups
will give those that require support a feeling that they
are part of a larger and greater society of people. For
example Stonewall provides people with both a larger
and more media aware voice to show that it is very
normal and okay to be homosexual, bisexual or
anything in between.
My use of colour and solid defined lines was to fulfill
the need to grab peoples attention and draw them
into the poster. As you can see in the examples to the
right, I used black and white as my primary colours in
order to give the impression of and unmoving fact as
well as solid and bright LGBT rainbow colours to
represent and more clearly evidence the community
that I am creating these posters to help. This is
important because the aim of a campaign such as this
is to gain awareness and this will only be successful if
the graphics, art, fact and figures are captivating and
easy to digest to reach as many potential viewers as
possible. I achieved this not just through my use of
colour but also through my use of language.
Are your finished pieces fit got their
intended purpose?
The first work that I produced was my logo as this would carry the
style, image and name of the rest of the campaign and would be
included on most of the posters and works produced, if not all.
Because of this I needed to ensure that the logo was strong, simple,

create a colourful and striking image that will catch the eye of

My final logo idea (bottom right) was designed to be simple as well

Are your finished pieces fit got their
intended purpose?
I continued my use of colour and text in my
following poster idea by again utilising block
bold colours as well as plain and simple
language that clearly and easily conveys the
intended message.
This poster is fit for its intended purpose as it
works to catch the eye of potential viewers
through use of aggressive and striking colours
and bold text.
The graphics utilised the shape of a cutting
mark that clearly extenuates the aggressive
nature of the poster used.
Finally at the bottom of this piece is the
campaign name which clearly defines the
purpose of the poster and it’s meaning.
This poster again followed the same
theming in text through my use of blunt
language and statements, however I
decided this time to stylise my production
following tropes of traditional 1980s digital
media.
I used this to help create a clear message
about the position of homosexual rights
and hate in todays society and how
homophobia ‘so 80s’. It is the idea that
such outdated views and prejudices have
no place in todays society, I continued this
with another poster themed in a different
manner.
I believe that this makes this work fit for
both its purpose as well as its target
audience as it is both attractive to look at
as well as clear and stern with the message
that is presented. I wanted with this poster
in particular to make something that would
be both striking and simple, clear and
aesthetically appealing. So I used colour
and classic tropes of this medium to make
this work fulfill these aims.
Did I successfully communicate my message clearly?
The message that I attempted to convey was astern
message of normality. I tried to state clearly and
bluntly in my work that there is nothing wrong with
non binary genders or different sexualities. I did this
similarly to the Stonewall campaign. The blunt
message, and the stern way in which the message is
presented provided people with a clear and guided
message that doesn’t falter or leave room for
discussion or argument.
A message such as this shows strength and confidence
and can quite honestly provide those under
oppression or judgment what can be seen as evidence
of support and fellowship in the face of adversity.
I also ensured that all information that I used
throughout my work was correct and accurate
meaning that people could better rely on this
information as often campaigns such as this are tools
used by people to change their opinions and
perspectives on sometime challenging topics.
Is my campaign and work appropriate for my target audience?
My target audience are those both within and outside the LGBT community. I aimed to both introduce and
hopefully educate those that do not understand LGBT or find it uncomfortable and help them realise that there
is absolutely nothing wrong being any gender or sexuality at all.
I believe that my work is appropriate for this target audience as I ensured to make sure that my work is stern
but friendly and inviting showing people that this is a non-negotiable situation and that there is no room for
discussion.
My promotional items also work to provide a certain level of support to those who need it within the LGBT in a
way to show them that they are not alone and that support mechanisms are in place for them if they ever
require it for any reason be it confusion or harassment.
Compare and contrast your original intentions with the outcomes you arrived at.
My social action campaign changed a lot
during the production process as my views on
the subject and my understanding of similar
campaigns grew in clarity.
I found certain ideas that I had previously
thought appropriate were not so and so I
expanded my ideas and better produced
appropriate and consistent work that would
successfully appeal to my target audience.
For example, one of my original ideas for the
logo was making use of a play on words ‘Bee
yourself’. However I found that this seemed
to make light of what was a serious and
sometimes challenging issue and so I
changed it to make it more appropriate and
sensitive to the subject at hand.
How effective are the techniques you have used?
• I believe that the techniques that I used were effective because I
successfully managed to create graphics that can be used for
multiple purposes and in multiple sizes without having a loss in
detail.
• I also managed to produce a set of themed works that can make
people aware of a given issue while making use of vector graphics,
colour and art mediums including vaporwave art as well as 50s
stylized pop art.
Is the content effective?
• I believe that the content that I produced was
effective because it successfully manages to
convey an important message as well being
aesthetically appealing without losing the
impact warranted by issue at hand.
What impact do you think your advertising campaign will have on the public?
• I believe that my campaign would have a
positive effect on helping people to change
their opinion for the better because the
graphics that I have produced convey an
argument that is plain and simple.

I aimed to both introduce and hopefully educate those that do not understand LGBT or find it uncomfortable and help them realise that there is absolutely nothing wrong being any gender or sexuality at all. I believe that my work is appropriate for this target audience as I ensured to make sure that my work is stern but friendly and inviting showing people that this is a non-negotiable situation and that there is no room for discussion. My promotional items also work to provide a certain level of support to those who need it within the LGBT in a way to show them that they are not alone and that support mechanisms are in place for them if they ever require it for any reason be it confusion or harassment.
  • 11. Compare and contrast your original intentions with the outcomes you arrived at. My social action campaign changed a lot during the production process as my views on the subject and my understanding of similar campaigns grew in clarity. I found certain ideas that I had previously thought appropriate were not so and so I expanded my ideas and better produced appropriate and consistent work that would successfully appeal to my target audience. For example, one of my original ideas for the logo was making use of a play on words ‘Bee yourself’. However I found that this seemed to make light of what was a serious and sometimes challenging issue and so I changed it to make it more appropriate and sensitive to the subject at hand.
  • 12. How effective are the techniques you have used? • I believe that the techniques that I used were effective because I successfully managed to create graphics that can be used for multiple purposes and in multiple sizes without having a loss in detail. • I also managed to produce a set of themed works that can make people aware of a given issue while making use of vector graphics, colour and art mediums including vaporwave art as well as 50s stylized pop art.
  • 13. Is the content effective? • I believe that the content that I produced was effective because it successfully manages to convey an important message as well being aesthetically appealing without losing the impact warranted by issue at hand.
  • 14. What impact do you think your advertising campaign will have on the public? • I believe that my campaign would have a positive effect on helping people to change their opinion for the better because the graphics that I have produced convey an argument that is plain and simple.
