Social Action Feedback
Georgina Whitelock
Are your finished pieces fit for their
intended purpose?
 I feel as if my finished pieces are mainly fit for purpose as it gets the message of stopping bullying across
directly. The first product I created for my campaign was my logo. I decided it would be a good idea to
create this first as this would be the backbone of my entire campaign that would be seen on all other of my
other products that I created about bullying. Due to this fact the logo was made very direct and simple so
that all people could clearly see what the campaign would entail. I decided to mock up a couple of different
design ideas so that I could see what style I preferred better and what fit the best with the campaign idea.
The text within my logo I kept simple so that it was easier for children to read and understand, however I
slightly increased the size in each of the words so that the word 'Bullying' would stand out the most to people
due to the fact that this is what my campaign is about
 The purpose of my campaign is mainly to bring about local/ if not national change as well as to raise
awareness and change attitudes/outlooks on bullying in an attempt to encourage people to help tackle the
issue and put it to a stop. My logo emphasises these purposes clearly as it states that we need to beat bulling
and put a stop to it if we see it happening around us. Another purpose is that my campaign should also feel
like it is strengthening and creating community ties within different areas, it should be doing this as people
should want to come together and help each other put bullying to a stop resulting in a bond with one another
as they would all be trying to achieve the same thing.
 Looking at existing products: Comparing my work to existing products I feel as if it competes with them at a
reasonable level. For example the campaign Stand up to Bullying has similar purposes and reasonings behind
the campaign to mine. One of Stand up to bullying's main aims is to bring about national change and to raise
awareness and campaign against bullying and encourage people to both stop bullying others and to intervene
and seek help when they are bullied or see bullying happening around them. The overall look of the
campaign is also completed to a similar and professional standard, both of their logos include small taglines
that help audiences grasp what their campaign is about. Another similarity is that both of our campaigns are
aimed at younger children who are in school as the school environment is one of the main places in which
bullying is most likely to occur.
 Moving onto my other products such as my posters, merchandise and website
mock-up. I feel as if they are also appropriate, especially for my target audience
as they didn't include a vast amount of information that children would get bored
of reading and instead was clear and concise so that children could easily grasp
what the poster was talking about. As well as this I feel as if my posters could help
children who were being bullied to feel less alone and like they have someone
fighting their corner and that they can seek out my campaign further in order to
receive help and advice if needs be, I feel as though it interprets this by me
including the website URL onto my poster, giving children the option to visit the
website and try and get help if they need too.
 For example the ABA (Anti Bullying Alliance) is also a campaign, helping children to
stop bullying and seek help if they are being bullied. The campaign provides
children with comfort and allows them to confide in them that it is okay to tell
someone if you are being bullied and not to be scared of what the repercussions
could be as they will help to protect them against bullies in any way they can. This
is similar to my campaign as I want children to understand that they shouldn't be
afraid to speak out about bullying and to make them aware that everything will be
okay.
Are your finished pieces fit for their
intended purpose?
Do they communicate your message
clearly?
 I feel that all of my products communicate my message clearly, Especially my
logo and my campaign poster. The message in which I was trying to
communicate was that bullying is unacceptable no matter what the
circumstance and that it shouldn't be tolerated anymore, we all need to join
together and help beat bullying. I feel that it was pretty obvious in what I was
trying to communicate as it pretty much states in the logo what I am trying to
achieve, I decided to do this so it provided people (especially children) with a
clear message that can't be manipulated or misunderstood. Throughout my
campaign I tended to use short and witty slogans in order to capture the
audiences attention which they would hopefully remember resulting in them
remembering the campaign, as well as making them remember my bullying
campaign it also still clearly states what the overall message is and is
portrayed in a clear way.
Are they appropriate for your target
audience?
 The audience in which I was targeting my campaign towards were school children
between the ages of 8-15 as schools is the most common place in which bullying
takes place. I feel as if my campaign is appropriate for my target audience as I
tended to keep each of my campaign products clear and simple so that the
children are capable of understanding and grasping what my campaign is about as
well as them not being able to get bored of reading long pieces of text and
information as I felt it would be best to use slogans and short, quick facts instead
so that they feel less bored and more inclined to read it. I also used relatively
non-negotiable wordplay, using words such as ‘beat bullying’ and ‘stop’ shows
people that it cannot continue to happen and that it is unacceptable within today's
society.
 Another reason I feel that my campaign is appropriate for my audience is via the
merchandise. I decided to create lots of different products all including the same
design that school children will enjoy and use, such as Tshirts, posters, notebooks,
pens, phone cases etc...
Compare and contrast your original intentions
with the outcomes you arrived at.
 I feel as if my campaign changed slightly throughout the production of my
work however not too drastically. Starting with my logo I originally intended
to create a calligram (picture out of words) in the shape of either a stop sign
or a fist in the colour red to emphasise how serious and unacceptable the
issue is and how damaging it can be to people. However in the end I felt that
this particular design looked too busy and intricate for a logo that I wanted to
include on all of my other products (poster) as I feel like it would draw
attention away from everything else. I finally came to a decision to simplify
my logo a lot and use my calligram as the design for my merchandise instead
as I felt this would look a lot better. In the end my finalised logo included a
slogan with play-on words called ‘Help Beat Bullying’ as this is the name of
my overall campaign. I wanted to use the word beat as within bullying it can
be physical and people can ‘beat’ each other up so using this word puts it in a
good light and instead of beating up other people they should beat and
overcome bullying as a whole.
How effective are the techniques you
have used?
 I believe that I used some good techniques that were effective. Especially when it
came to visual hierarchy within my logo. My final logo included visual hierarchy
where each word got slightly bigger and bolder which made it look more
professional as well as it making the important words (beat and bullying) stand out
the most to people. Another way in which I made this stand out was by putting the
words ‘Beat Bullying’ in red to match my colour scheme, I did this as red signifies
the severity of the situation and makes it stand out. I also elongated the word
bullying so that it was in line with the other two words which made it look a lot
more aesthetically pleasing.
 Another technique which I used was a calligram. I did this using an online site in
which I typed all of the words I could think of that related to bullying and formed
them into the shape of a stop sign. I decided to use a stop sign as my entire
campaign is about stopping bullying as much as possible. Because my overall
colour scheme is red and stop signs are usually in the colour red anyway I decided
to make all the text within the shape red which gave viewers the understanding
that it’s a serious and somewhat painful subject that needs to end as soon as
possible.
Is the content effective?
 As previously mentioned I feel that my content is effective as I feel I have
done a successful job of clearly raising awareness for bullying and also
hopefully helping people understand the issue more and making them want to
either stop bullying people and/or get help or help someone if you see them
being bullied. Despite the fact that my campaign is somewhat similar to other
bullying campaigns I feel as if mine is a good contender that raises awareness
just as much if not more so than professional campaigns as I have included
everything possible to make the campaign the best and most informative it
can be without it becoming dull.
What impact do you think your advertising
campaign will have on the public.
 I feel that my campaign will have a positive impact on my campaign as I feel
the public will feel more inclined to tackle the ongoing bullying issue. In my
opinion there shouldn’t be any negative impact on the campaign as I haven’t
used anything slightly controversial in my campaign that could be perceived
as something it isn’t, mainly because I kept everything clear and simple due
to the fact that my target audience is school children. On a whole all my
merchandise, posters and logo expresses to people clearly the issue of
bullying as well as my website providing heart wrenching facts about bullying
making people feel emotional about how many people do get bullied and how
seriously it can effect them.
What are the technical and aesthetic
qualities of your work?
 I feel that I have used quite a few technical and aesthetical qualities in my work.
Starting with my logo I used the visual hierarchy technique to show the importance
of each of the words as well as elongating the word bullying to make it the same
length as the words ‘help beat’ which made it more aesthetically pleasing to the
eye as it became symmetrical.
 With my poster I also used visual hierarchy to make the words ‘stand’ and hand’
stand out as these are the most crucial words within my slogan that advise people
what they need to be doing. Within my poster I also made the main factor the
calligram of the fist that included words relating to bullying along with the word
‘STOP’ spelt out across each of the fists knuckles allowing people to know that it
needs to stop happening before any more people get hurt/ affected by it both
mentally and physically.
 Finally the merchandise also used a calligram using similar words to the poster as
well as it incorporating the word stop. To incorporate the word stop so that it
looked somewhat similar to poster I decided to create the shape of a stop sign as
this is also a clear way of telling people that bullying cannot continue any longer.

I did this using an online site in which I typed all of the words I could think of that related to bullying and formed them into the shape of a stop sign. I decided to use a stop sign as my entire campaign is about stopping bullying as much as possible. Because my overall colour scheme is red and stop signs are usually in the colour red anyway I decided to make all the text within the shape red which gave viewers the understanding that it’s a serious and somewhat painful subject that needs to end as soon as possible.
  • 8. Is the content effective?  As previously mentioned I feel that my content is effective as I feel I have done a successful job of clearly raising awareness for bullying and also hopefully helping people understand the issue more and making them want to either stop bullying people and/or get help or help someone if you see them being bullied. Despite the fact that my campaign is somewhat similar to other bullying campaigns I feel as if mine is a good contender that raises awareness just as much if not more so than professional campaigns as I have included everything possible to make the campaign the best and most informative it can be without it becoming dull.
  • 9. What impact do you think your advertising campaign will have on the public.  I feel that my campaign will have a positive impact on my campaign as I feel the public will feel more inclined to tackle the ongoing bullying issue. In my opinion there shouldn’t be any negative impact on the campaign as I haven’t used anything slightly controversial in my campaign that could be perceived as something it isn’t, mainly because I kept everything clear and simple due to the fact that my target audience is school children. On a whole all my merchandise, posters and logo expresses to people clearly the issue of bullying as well as my website providing heart wrenching facts about bullying making people feel emotional about how many people do get bullied and how seriously it can effect them.
  • 10. What are the technical and aesthetic qualities of your work?  I feel that I have used quite a few technical and aesthetical qualities in my work. Starting with my logo I used the visual hierarchy technique to show the importance of each of the words as well as elongating the word bullying to make it the same length as the words ‘help beat’ which made it more aesthetically pleasing to the eye as it became symmetrical.  With my poster I also used visual hierarchy to make the words ‘stand’ and hand’ stand out as these are the most crucial words within my slogan that advise people what they need to be doing. Within my poster I also made the main factor the calligram of the fist that included words relating to bullying along with the word ‘STOP’ spelt out across each of the fists knuckles allowing people to know that it needs to stop happening before any more people get hurt/ affected by it both mentally and physically.  Finally the merchandise also used a calligram using similar words to the poster as well as it incorporating the word stop. To incorporate the word stop so that it looked somewhat similar to poster I decided to create the shape of a stop sign as this is also a clear way of telling people that bullying cannot continue any longer.
