Therapeutic Patterns In Genetic Analysis
The first thing that I would go through is the method to identify the QTL. Using molecular markers
to identify the presence or absence at certain lengths of DNA coupled with observed phenotypic
data. In order to obtain a QTL, markers methods described above are used in order to get
information from different locations within the target organisms chromosome. The organism in
question has a DNAsample taken from it. At the same time, the associated trait that you are
interested in (such as disease resistance) is tested for in the organism. Because of the differences
between organisms and the divergence of traits, a population is generally used in order to help
determine the presence of the QTL. Generally, a cross between a resistant and a susceptible
individual for the trait is done, and the population that is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The LOD score is a measure of how much the trait is depicted by a certain marker. Having one or
a handful of locations that make up for the trait in question is important because it allows you to
have a better idea and a simplified method for determining whether the trait of interest is present.
The location is also vital, as it allows you to know where the trait of interest is located at. This is
important for two reasons. If you are trying to sequence the trait to get an idea of the protein
structure, this gives you the ability to know the base pair sequence, so you know what amino
acids are coded and have an idea of the protein structure. For a QTL cloning project, however, the
location of the QTL or QTL s is important because it lets you use molecular cloning techniques in
order to copy the QTL from one organism to another. Once you have the QTL s location, cloning
techniques can be utilized in order to transfer the QTL of interest. The techniques that I will talk
about are gene cloning using a vector, polymerase chain reaction, and gene

The Powerful Gifts Of The Holy Spirit
The adversary causes plenty of division within the church over many issues. One debate in
particular is the charismatic gifts of the Holy Spirit. Fortunately, it s not the argument of
whether or not the charismatic spiritual gifts were part of the first century. However, the major
issue at hand is whether or not the charismatic spiritual gifts are still used in today s church, or
not? There are many beliefs of charismatic gifts, based off denominational sectors, church
affiliations, personal experiences, and last but not least interpretation or should I say
misinterpretation of the Scriptures. Many believers of Christ believe that the charismatic gifts
cease after the Bible was established, and at the end of the Apostolic age. This group is better
known as cessationists. In contrast, there are believers that believe that the charismatic gifts are
prevalent, and available to believers today. This group is better known as continuationists. This
topic can really get out of hand on both sides of the debate. The one group that says they have
ceased, can be extreme by saying, people who believe they have charismatic spiritual gifts they are
demonic influenced . Then the opposing side says, if you don t believe that the charismatic
spiritual gifts are still in use, then you are not saved. In my personal opinion, theses agitators are
totally wrong. What is very interesting is that both views use the Scriptures to support what they
believe. However, there is a middle

Parenthood And Its Effects On The United States
Planned Parenthood There is an ongoing argument about the funding of Planned Parenthood in the
United States. There are many reasons that some people do not want to fund it. One of those
reasons is because Planned Parenthood offers abortions to women. There are people who believe
that these operations should be shut down to rid our country of abortions. However, Planned
Parenthood offers much more than just abortions in their clinics. Planned Parenthood should be
funded because of the examinations and resources they provide, the education they give, and
because it is a low income health center.
Planned Parenthood offers access to many important health examinations, procedures, treatments
and medications. They offer breast cancer and cervical cancer exams. They test for STI s, HPV
and UTI s to name a few. All of these tests and exams are preventative actions to not only see if
someone has a health issue, but also to prevent health issues. They provide birth control to women
who are not ready to have children. They also offer abortions. However, Planned Parenthood has
decreased the number of abortions per year overall, including Vermont where Title X was passed to
fund operations such as Planned Parenthood. This is because Planned Parenthood offers birth
control therefore preventing unwanted pregnancies which may have ended in abortion (Zoppo 497).
It is also important to note that Federal funding of Planned Parenthood does not fund abortions
except for cases of rape,

Persuasive Essay On Social Media Snapchat
Social media tricks people to believe others are living a ravisher life than they really are. They
post only the highlights of their lives, and never the negative. It makes others view them falsely
and more presentable than they actually are, which makes those viewing their profiles feel less
satisfied with themselves and their lives. There are even some people who drop all social media
because of how terrible it makes them feel, but there are also others who thrive for the attention
of social media and go through ridiculous tasks in order to take the perfect picture. There have
been many disputes over how social media websites such as Instagram or Facebook affects ones
self esteem, it can knock them down. One might say that social media is a tool that helps us get
connected with the rest of the world, but it is truly a recipe for disaster. One of my really close
friends Lara is insanely obsessed with Instagram and Snapchat, she is on it every second of the
day. Once she and her boyfriend broke up she started stalking him every day, bible. She d go on
every social media website he had an account for, until one day she saw a Snapchat story (a story
on snapchat is only available to the user s friends for twenty four hours). The story reveled her
ex and a new girl, ever since Lara has posted an insane number of pictures on Instagram, some of
them are very catfish, they don t look like her at all. This makes Lara think less of herself, as she
has to edit her pictures for them

Origin Of The Word Hoosier Analysis
Hoosier is one of those odd words where everyone seems to know what it refers to, but no one
really knows what it means. Most know that it has been adopted to refer to Indianaians, but its true
meaning and origin are a mystery. This mystery is what intrigued J.P. Dunn and prompted him to
write Origin of the Word Hoosier. In his work, Dunn makes the argument that there is no true
known origin of the word. Dunn believes that the true stories are nothing more than legends warped
by time and the facts that people believe cannot be proved to be anything more than just theory. The
first fact, based upon the legendof the word hoosier, is that the word was originally used as a slang
term to describe a rough, uneducated class of people. This belief has stemmed from the
reasoning that a great many of the legends describe the character of the people labeled hoosier as
childish and uncivilized. One such legend is told by Mrs. C. W. Bean. She recalls, One of my
aunts said, What a lot of hoosiers there are in town. In surprise, I asked, Why, I am a Hoosier. ?
A horrified look came over my aunt s face, and she exclaimed, For the Lord s sake, child, don t
let anyone here know that you are a hoosier. I did not make the claim again, for on closer
inspection the visitors proved to be a wild looking lot who might be suspected of never having
seen civilization before. (88) Mrs. Bean s story supports the idea that the word hoosier originally
depicts the uneducated, as her

Ford v.s Dodge: The Battle of the Cars
We live in the 21st century, which is considered to be the era of modern technology and
sophisticated ingenuity. Yet up to this day, two brands have managed to keep up with the 21st
century. Which includes the best technology in automotive industry and the capability of
implementing sophisticated aerodynamics. Ford and Dodge have been head to head with each
other since the early 1900 s. Both of these car brands are known to have built some of the best
muscle cars out in the world. But what many people don t know is that Ford and Dodge also
represent a piece of freedom and America.

In the upcoming years, both Ford and the Dodge company would face some of the most difficult
hardships that would either make or break both of the companies, and all their time and effort the
founders have dedicated to the automobile industry. On January, 14th, 1920, John Francis Dodge
had passed away, leaving the company to his brother. Soon after John Francis death, Horace
Elgin Dodge had also passed away from Influenza on December, 20th, 1920. Leaving the the
Dodge company behind ranked in 2nd place in the automobile industry. With no one to left in
charge of the Dodge company, the company was later sold to the Graham Brothers who were a
truck manufacturing company. Eventually Ford was also hit with some hardships. Henry Ford
had also passed away in April, 7, 1947 from Cerebral Hemorrhage. Soon after Henry Ford s death
the company was passed down to his grandson Henry Ford II. Leaving all of henry s innovation and
ingenuity behind.
Yet with big drawbacks from both companies, Ford and Dodge managed to progress. After nearly
40 years both Dodge and Ford started taking their cars and their companies to another level. By
funding special groups focused on sports cars, it would promise the automakers a chance to
compete in the Le man s race and target car enthusiast. Carroll Shelby would be the creator of the
mustang gt350, gt500, and the gt race car, that would be used in the Le man s race. On the other

Being A Critical Thinker
Critical Thinking is becoming more understanding to me. I have always been an open minded
thinker, whenever it came to looking at different point of views on whatever is in front of me
.My mom always told me that I challenged everything she gave me to do, or told me to do. She
told me I was very stubborn. If I asked a question and she gave me a answer, I would always
question her why! I never knew it was a trait of, what I know now as being a Critical Thinker.
Looking at Fair Minded Thinkers, I possess the quality of having courage. The Courage to question
what I was taught growing up, to seek truth and logicin beliefs and everything I knew at this point
in my life. I was always taught that Jesus died on the cross for our sins. Not saying I don t believe
in god, but I questioned that after reading about Egyptian history. After about 6 months of reading
and research I found some very uneasy things that needed some attention.... Show more content on

found, which made my mom and dad and whom over I approached with it, shutdown instantly to
what I was trying to explain to them. The best approach would have been is to present what I had

The French And English Europeans
Before Europeans made initial contact with the First Nations tribes who resided in what would be
later christened Canada, the First Nations tribes had a spiritual relationship with the land
surrounding them, practicing methods of preserving both the land and the animals. Additionally,
they also had a structural government that consisted of men dictating political matters and women
controlling the economic results. The European ideology differed immensely; they saw the land as
property to own and women as bearers of children and housekeepers. The differing cultural values of
both became more pronounced when further involvement and association with one another took
place, with the Europeans ultimately considering the First Nationstribes as... Show more content on

Nations issues and relations and construct programs to inform the public of the First Nations people
past; only then shall they regain their identity.
Residential Schools
The Canadian government funded church run residential schools in a successful bid to eliminate
First Nations culture and assimilate children of First Nations people into idealized version of
European youth. In 1883, the Indian Affairs policy directed their attention to the refocusing of
residential schools as a front for a constituted act of assimilation under the guise of education. ( First
Nations in Canada , last modified November 21, 2013) The schools educated First Nations children
with similar subjects taught to European Canadian children, simultaneously banning traditional
clothing, language, and religion.
The assimilation however devolved into relentless emotional and physical abuse of the Aboriginal
children if they were caught practicing any traits from their culture, with accounts of sexual assault
documented. Students lived in inhumane conditions and were segregated from

Allowing teens to purchase violent or mature rated video games will increase the sales of the
game purchased and violent video games are known as a stress reliever.
History
Violence in video games dates all the way back to 1976. In 1976, there was an arcade game
called Death Race, and it was about running over stickmen with a car. The game was eventually
banned due to the violence it displayed. (Homeslice, Death Race (Game) , 2014) Back in the
late 70 s to the early 90 s, video games did not have a rating. There weren t a lot of violent video
games for home consoles at that time, and violent games that were released was usually
unlicensed or unofficial. According to Ryan Lamble, some of the earliest violent video games
were Chiller, Splatterhouse, and Jack the Ripper. (Lamble, The evolution of 80s videogame gore
and mayhem , 2013)
In 1994, a video game rating system known as ESRB was established due to gory and violent
games such as Mortal Kombat and Night Trap. The ESRB decides what age or ages a video
game should be appropriate for. The ESRB rating categories ranged from kids to adults to
mature. ESRB. SEARCH ESRB RATINGS. ESRB Ratings. N.p., n.d. Web. 08 May 2017. Today,
the ESRB rating still exists and recently the ESRB expanded to mobile games and apps. The
ESRB rating system for video games will exist in the future and it will continue to expand.
Problem Statement
The issue is underage teens are not allowed to purchase mature or violent video games due to

Essay on Nature in Context vs. Nature out of Context
Nature in Context vs. Nature out of Context Nature has long been the focus of many an author s
work, whether it is expressed through poetry, short stories, or any other type of literary creation.
Authors have been given an endless supply of pictures and descriptions because of nature s
infinite splendor that can be vividly reproduced through words. It is because of this fact that often
a reader is faced with two different approaches to the way nature is portrayed. Some authors tend
to look at nature from a more extensive perspective as in William Wordsworth s I wandered Lonely
as a Cloud. While some authors tend to focus more on individual aspects of nature and are able to
captivate the reader with their intimate portrayals of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But the second line in this poem, sometimes whoever seeks abroad may find, was particularly
interesting to me for I relate to its feelings of optimism and accord. In a way it also seems that
the second stanza is heavy with sleepiness, with the exception of the last four lines, as displayed
in the above quote with words like the winnowing wind , Drows d , and sound asleep . The four
last lines of the second stanza, as I mentioned earlier, describes Autumn in pure action, Steady thy
laden head across a brook; /Or by a cider press, with patient look, by bringing out the true active
lifestyle of what nature truly is. Again, through his imagination Keats is able to embark upon what
he is really seeing. The purpose of the poem becomes clear in the final stanza, and in the warmth of
the second line, Where are the songs of spring? Ay, where are they? /Think not of them, Thou hast
thy music too, where Keats sheds light on the idea that that everything has a purpose. It would
appear that Autumn, the season which robs us of the warmth of summer, where the leaves come
tumbling from the trees, the season that prepares the world for a dark and cold winter ahead, has its
purpose too. What would spring be without death, light without dark, but indeed it appears that
Keats is thinking of life without death. In this poem, Keats is able to focus in on the beauty and
splendid ness of autumn in order to demonstrate that everything will change according

The Controversy Over Genetically Modified Organisms
A genetically modified organism, GMO, has been altered by genetic engineering techniques.
GMOs are widely used by scientists in many different ways to include the production of food
and in research.8 Zebrafish genetically modified to be a fluorescent bright red, green and

However, these patented GloFish are banned in California. The California Fish and Game
Commission decided the fish were the result of a trivial use for a powerful technology. 7 The
Commission s belief that the fish should not have been created led to a law making the GloFish
illegal. Originally GloFish were developed by scientists in Singapore to be living pollution

GloFish highlights the controversy over genetically modified organisms and how public
opinion can be swayed by the beliefs of others whether those beliefs are based on science or not.
This paper will focus first on what genetic modification means and then will look at the pros and
cons of genetically modified foods. Finally, the author s opinion of the issue of GMO food will
conclude the paper. Wikipedia defines genetic modification as the mutation, insertion or deletion of
genes. Consider that for over 14,000 years, humans have been using the practice of selective

The Role Of Policies And Procedures For Children And Young...
This assignment will explain the role of policies and procedures in helping children, young people
and their families.
Policies and procedures are set of guidelines and rules put in place by the government to ensure the
safety of children and young people while they are in care. It is important that anyone working with
children and young people is fully aware of policies and procedures put in place in their setting
and also aware of their role in implementing these policies and procedures. Policies and procedures
definite what an organisation does and how they do it in order to provide a safe environment for
children and young people during their time in care.
Every Child Matters 2003 consider the well being of children and young people from birth to
the age of 19. The law has five principles that provide a safe environment for children and young
people while they are in care. The five outcomes ensure children s and young people s needs are
met and have the support they need to be healthy: to be safe, to enjoy and achieve, make a positive
contribution and achieve economic well being. The law ensures that every child is mentally,
emotionally and physically fit and obtaining the care that meets their needs. For example, in
children s residential home children will be encourage to eat a healthy balance diet. By providing a
nutritious diet for the child the residential workers are meeting the child s right to be healthy.

Media Coursework Production Evaluation ( 760 Words )
A2 Media Coursework Production Evaluation (760 WORDS)
The focus of my investigation was to analyse the representation of women in horror films. The
films I had selected were Resident Evil Retribution (2012) and Halloween (1978). In the film,
Resident Evil Retribution, the representation of women was stronger, whereas Halloween
represented females as weak and vulnerable as they were from a different epoch. I have used codes
and conventions and also subverted the representation of women in my opening sequence of the
horror film.
The codes and conventions I discovered include:
в¦Ѓ Females are represented as weak and vulnerable
в¦Ѓ The close up on Halima s face screaming (Elder Sister)
The subversion of stereotypes of Trapped 2016
в¦ЃThe females are not sexually objectified
в¦Ѓ Females from an Islamic background
The opening sequence I have created has similar conventions to Halloween (1978). During the
closing equilibrium of Judith Myer screaming, implies that she is weak and vulnerable, likewise I
have included this in my horror film, where both of the young, female characters scream once they
see the person with the anonymous mask. The purpose of including this element is to ensure the
film is easy to market success, as stated by Steve Neal that if there are repertoires of elements in a
film, audiences are more likely to see it as it follows the codes and conventions.
I have selected a medium shot to ensure the audience clearly see the character s body and it provides

Character Analysis Of Daniel KeyesFlowers For Algernon
Humans are human; all people change in one way or the other over the course of certain events.
Some of the changes people experience may cause them to have a sad outlook on certain matters,
others may cause people to have a positive outlook on a matter. Just like all other humans, Charlie,
from Daniel Keyes Flowers For Algernonchanges over some time too. His life drastically changes
after he gets surgery to alter his intelligence level. In Daniel KeyesFlowers For Algernon, Charlie
becomes a different person over the course of events. His most significant changes include his
mentality towards certain people and his attitude, and also the sudden regression of his mental
health after his surgery.
First off, one of the main changes Charlie faces is his ability to think about other people that he
uses to think where his friends. Friends are one of the defining factors of what a certain person
will turn out to be like, or how they feel about certain matters. Poor friends will give second rate
influences and will most likely ruin a person s life, but good friends will make a person feel
happy and support this person. Charlie is faced with not so great friends in Flowers For
Algernon. According to his progress reports, many of Charlie s friends bully him. Charlie does
not know this at certain times during the book, but the reader does. His friends make fun of him
and make him do stupid things. In Progress Report 8, on March 25, Joe Carp said hey look
where Charlie had his operashun what did they do Charlie put some brains in. Charlie does not
realize it, but Joe Carp is actually making fun of him to an unacceptable level where sensitive
topics such as intelligence are involved. As the book goes on, Charlie slowly starts to realize that
his so called friends were actually just making fun of him and laugh mainly because he did
something goofy.
On the contrary, Charlie is also blessed to have a few great friends and even mere acquaintances
in his life. One of the most significant friends that Charlie makes in Flowers For Algernon, is Miss
Kinnian. Even though the author, Daniel Keyes, never states directly that Miss Kinnian isn t
Charlie s friend, the reader can infer so based on the progression of

All the patients files should be backed up at least on a weekly basis to ensure that none of the
information is lost. (HIPAA, 2011) Another way for accountability of the electronic health
record is to have each person in the office has a key card or password to access the system. This
will allow for the physician to check back and see if anyone is releasing information or making
changes that are not authorized. This also allows for physicians to find out who made changes
to a patients record if information is inaccurate. (HIPAA, 2011) Electronic Health Records will
include the same information as the paper record. This includes basic patient information such as
demographics, medical history, medications, allergies, laboratory results, radiology images, and
billing information. (2006) Each individual doctor can specialize their system and what they
want it to include. They can add different components to the electronic health record that are
important to them and needed in their practice. (2006) Even though I am an advocate for the
electronic health record there are drawbacks to the system. Each individual physician will have
to determine if the drawbacks are worth the advantages of the system. One of the drawbacks to
the system is privacy. Privacy will always be a big factor. Some patients may not like the idea of
having their medical information easily accessible by almost anybody. (The HWN Team, 2009)

Electric Cars Disadvantages
f.Survey The survey section focuses on the anticipated benefits and drawbacks that are associated
with the use of the electric car technology.
i. Benefits anticipated for the development of electric cars
The developments of electric cars are associated with numerous benefits to the different
stakeholders who are involved in their operations. Among the benefits include the
environmental benefits where the use of electric cars has eliminated emission of dangerous
gases that are emitted by fuel based cars. The use of electric cars also has numerous health
benefits to the public as some of the gases that are realized by fuel based cars are feared to be
dangerous to the human health. Wolf, Ingo et al, also explains that electric cars are economical
in the long run as the cost of electricity is low than the fuel and gas prices that changes with time
(269) . Due to the ease of optimizing electric cars in comparison to fuel cars, the cars are also
considered to be much safer to their users in comparison to fuel cars. During accidents, some of
the fuel based cars explode as the fuels are flammable. ii. The review of different drawbacks
anticipated for this DPC
Despite the numerous benefits that are associated with electric cars, there are some drawbacks that
have prevented the popular use of the cars in the current period. Among the drawbacks is the high
cost that is associated with buying an electric car. According to Jager et al. most of the electric cars

Knight Of Labor Essay
After the civil war ended, America witnessed its rapid growth in industry, urbanization, and
capitalism. When the price of living increased, workers desired for a better wage and working
condition. Different types of worker unions appeared in the nation, representing different interests
and different groups of workers. The Knight of Laborwanted to include all workers from different
background, but it was difficult to organize such a diverse group of workers whose demands and
bargaining power were different. The Socialist Party looked for a way to change society
fundamentally and emphasized on a class struggle of the working class against the employer class.

Sonnet 73 By William Shakespeare
The poem Sonnet 73 by William Shakespeare follows a typical Shakespearean sonnet structure;
fourteen lines, three quatrains followed by a rhyming couplet, a basic ababcdcdefefgg rhyme
scheme, and predominately following iambic pentameter with one additional unstressed syllable in
the first line of each quatrain and the couplet. The sonnetas a whole is an extended metaphor for the
aging and process and death; however, it is broken into three smaller metaphors all supporting the
speaker s impending end of life through the process of aging. Natural aspects winter, twilight,
and fire are presented as an extended metaphor for the the thematic undertone of aging and death.
Nature alone is emblematic of the process of aging throughout one s life. Nature is always
changing, just as humans are never the same in one second to the next. Humans are an outcome
of natural processes. It is only right that the aging of the speaker be represented through natures
own developments. The two work simultaneously to present the journey of the speaker towards
an acceptance of his death and loss love. It is through natural cycles he realizes the only condition
to living is death. The metaphor begins in quatrain one with the symbolism of winter. The
coloring of the yellow leaves falling from the tree clue the reader into the seasonal time period.
The speaker directly compares himself to winter when he says That time of year thou may st in me
behold . He holds the season

Epigenetic Modifications on Histones
Epigenetic modifications on histones and DNA exercise precise regulation of gene expression, and
thus have a profound influence on cellular differentiation and function. The most widely studied
modification on DNA is 5 methylcytosine (5mC) that frequently occurs in a CpG dinucleotide
context. Initially, the de novo DNAmethyltransferase (Dnmt) enzymes Dnmt3a and 3b mediate the
transfer of the methyl group to cytosine, while the maintenance Dnmt1 ensures subsequent
propagation of this mark through cell replication cycles. Because of prominent roles in gene
repression, retro element silencing, X chromosome inactivation and gene imprinting, 5mC was
initially thought to be irreversible. Thanks to burgeoning evidence, it is now clear that the
methylcytosine can be removed through a number of mechanisms. Passive demethylation is
proposed to remove 5mC over several cell replication cycles, through exclusion of the maintenance
machinery from the replication fork. Active demethylation on the other hand constitutes removal of
5mC through enzymatic hydrolysis. The discovery of Ten Eleven Transclocation (TET)
dioxygenase proteins was revolutionary. The TET proteins catalyze hydroxylation of 5mC to
5hmC, and conversion of 5hmC to 5 carboxylcytosine and finally to 5 formylcytosine. These 5mC
derivatives enter the base excision repair pathway (BER), resulting in replacement of the
methylcytosine with an unmodified cytosine. Second, although the role of deaminases is debated,
these enzymes

Analysis Of My Neighbour Totoro
The adventurous, visually enchanting animated Japanese movie, My Neighbour Totoro, by Hayao
Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli released in 1988 in Japan, attempts to show the viewers the innocence
and the sense of community in Japan before the prevalent industrialization and economic boom.
The movie is set in the countryside away from the big industrialized cities. The main characters are
the schoolgirl, Satsuki Kusakabe, and her younger sister, Mei Kusakabe. Their days are brightened
thanks to the spirit of the forest, Totoro.
Hayao Miyazaki, who is born in 1941, is incorporating his own childhood in the film. Furthermore,
he focuses on the historical time the movie is set. Meanwhile, noting that the movie is made in
1988 which is during the period of the economic bubble, he reminds us of the simple Japan in the
1950s before the economic boom occupied the people of this country. In contrast to the past,
people who live in the city area do not get involved with one another s business despite how Japan
has practiced chonaikai for having an intimate sense of community within the neighbourhood ever
since the revival of chonaikai after World War 2. Hayao Miyazaki is able to reveal this specific
ambience of the Japanese community in the movie when the Kusakabe s neighbours, a young boy,
and grandmother, come to help the Kusakabe family move into their new old rotten house. It is also
seen when all the neighbours nearby help Satsuki look for her lost sister. Although the neighbours do

The Theme Of War In Trojan Barbie
The average theater goer might consider only the actors, the director, and the script as he or she
attempts to critique a play. However, much more occurs behind the scenes than meets the eye. What
the average theater attendee may overlook are the design elements that enhance a production: set
design, costume, lights, and sound. These combined elements work together to support the work of
the actors by creating an atmosphere that aids the audience in connecting with a production. In the
play Trojan Barbie, these design elements are connected by a common theme of war. In Trojan
Barbie, the theme of war is evident in the set design. As I walked into Tatum theatre, I felt as though
I was entering a war camp. There were tin barrels tipped over, and the ground looked as though it
was covered in dirt. Metal fences were hanging from the upstage, and tall platforms were erected
in front of these fences where I imagined soldiers would stand to watch the prisoners throughout
the day. Along with platforms, wooden boxes and a wooden chair were strewn haphazardly on
the ground. I could picture this scene being the result of a battle. The colors of the set were colors
that I connect with war: browns, greens, and black. In addition to the set, the actors carried the
weapons of war. The soldiers carried guns of varying sizes and types, and these guns were on the
soldiers at all times, showing they were continuously on duty watching over the women in the
camp. The second design

Alexander Von E Visite Analysis
Photography is the development of the authenticity of photographic images and relates to the
personality of what is being represented. Edgar Allen Poe believed that in order to capture a
photographic image, the truth must be revealed by those images. He imagines that the photographs
acknowledge perfection with close scrutiny. The terms photograph and photogenic are synonymous
which further compliment any portrait or drawing. Aerial and linear perspective, light and shade
accentuate the model. Therefore, the pictures or images must be the result of this. The real
essence of what Poe describes is what is seen is the truth of the sitter. The following three images
are examples to describe what Poe claims. Hermann Biow, Alexander von... Show more content on

Nadar, ThГ©ophile Gautier, 1857, salted paper print. These portraits vary to a certain extent
and capture the exactitude of the portrait. The daguerreotype by Herman Biow shows a pose of
Alexander von Humboldt. This earlier daguerreotype portrait is clear and sharp. The
background is faded and the model is dressed in a dark black suit. The brilliancy of the portrait is
emphasized. The only way to perfect this image would be to make the photograph more visible.
Coincidentally, instead the fadedness gives the portrait tonality. The daguerreotypes at this time
were more distinct to its suitor in that regards. However, the image still keeps the person in the
image interested. The second image is photographed by Ludwig Angerer of Elizabeth of Austria,
1860. The veracity of the image gives depth to the composition of the portrait. The full length of
this portrait is close to the appeal of what the photographer was aiming for. Elizabeth s pose
reveals conventionality. The brilliance of the skylight is shown which gives the portrait
truthfulness. Thirdly, Nadar photographed Theophile Gautier on salted paper. This portrait brood
s personality in the way it is opposite sides of the viewer. The person posing for this image has
equal shades of light and dark. The man in this portrait exudes aristocrat. His personality comes
across to the viewer as highly individualistic and straightforward. Overall, these three portraits are
sheer brilliance. The lifelike images are true to life and conform to utmost perfection. This further
supports Poe s claim

Similarities Between Charles And Ray Eames
My Project 3 booklet is Charles and Ray Eames. I chose the first moodboard. It was my favorite

Another story that was found among the papers of Diedrich Knickerbocker was The Legend of
Sleepy Hollow. Both of these stories are tall tales that Irving wrote as entertainment for his
readers, but he mentioned in both that these were stories told to Knickerbocker by people of
Dutch origin, he made sure that the reader knew that. In both of these stories Irving describes the
incredible scenery of New York, and he also describes the kindness and simplicity of the Dutch
people. In Rip Van Winklehe says he happened upon a genuine Dutch family, snugly shut up in

the landscape is cloudless, they will gather a hood of gray vapors about their summits, which, in

Neoliberalism: Effects of Neoliberal Policies on Kenyan Workers
There have been economic transitions across the world, characterized by various changes in
industrialization, trading methods and policies. These changes are normally controlled by political
systems. Capitalism is the most common system in the current world economy. As defined by
Bhattacharya (2015), capitalism is a political and economic system in which the industry and
trade of a country are controlled by private profit oriented owners instead of the state. Prior to
revolution of capitalism, pre capitalist modes of production dominated the economy in most of the
world countries. The pre capitalist modes of production were chattel slavery and feudalism. As
argued by Marx (1867), primitive accumulation led to the transformation of pre capitalist to
capitalist modes of production. According to Bhattacharya (2015), there are two types of
capitalism. They are liberal and neoliberal capitalism. Liberal capitalism is a type of capitalism in
which economic and political policies favor freedom of individuals, governments and non
governmental organizations, social and economic institutions, promoting individual rights and civil
liberties, and unrestricted development in all spheres of human endeavor. Neoliberal capitalism is
a modified form of liberal capitalism in which the political and economic

Marriage And English Society Within The 1800 S
Jane Austen provides her readers with insight into marriage and English society within the 1800 s.
In Emma, the story establishes the idea that society could not function without marriage and how
the institution of marriage defined one s social status.
Marriage, a broad theme in this book, can be broken down throughout. Emma s sister has gone off
after getting married and left her alone. After her sister s marriage, Emma proclaimed that she was
not destined for love and made herself the town s unofficial matchmaker. The entire novel is built
around relationships and matchmaking, with Emma and Mr. Knightly, Harriet and Robert Martin
/ Elton, and Jane Fairfax and Frank Churchill.
The main conflicts in the novel revolve around marriage and social class due to the fact that
everyone in the story is trying to find their ideal match: a partner who is compatible to them by
wealth, bloodline, and social standing. Marriage was the foundation of social class and was
paramount to the people of Highbury whose social status was usually defined in reference to a
family name and a long line of wealth or even poverty. To people during the nineteenth century,
marriage was extremely important as it acted one of the only ways to keep social/ economic status
or change it.
Social mobility, the advancement of social status, was not commonly seen in Highbury and could
only be attained through the acquisition of money. Family name (along with the possession of
wealth) was the principal factor in

Air Defense Artillery And Its Impact On The Korean War
Air Defense Artillery and its Impact on the Korean War The Korean peninsula has had a long
history of turmoil, miring the country in wars and disputes. Due to growing tensions in the region
around the mid 1900s, it would soon become necessary for America to step in to assist in resolving
conflict. The Air Defense Artillery(ADA), or the Anti Aircraft Artillery (AAA) during the Korean
War, played a major role in supporting the war effort during the Korean War. The AAA played an
important role leading up to the war, during the war, and the lessons learned from the war assisted
in building the branch for the future.

Using 3 inch or 105 mm guns fixed to mobile units made AAA one force to not to be messed with
during the wars. One of which was when North Korea attacked South Korea in June 1950.
In my generation, this was not the first occasion when the strong had attacked the weak.
Communism was acting in Korea just as Hitler, Mussolini, and the Japanese had acted ten, fifteen,
and twenty years earlier. I felt certain that if South Korea was allowed to fall, Communist leaders
would be emboldened to override nations closer to our own shores. (Truman, 1955)
The Army Antiaircraft Command was established as a matter of priority to insure necessary joint
planning, maximum efficiency and functional readiness of Army elements that become part of an
air defense system for the Continental United States (Lazar, p. 7). Throughout the Korean War, the
Army Antiaircraft Command, currently known as Air Defense Artillery, had various missions.
AAA units attached closely to infantry or armored divisions for additional ground support and
depended completely on radio communications. However, Detachment X Ray had a different
mission to execute; establish air defense. Thirty five top quality troops from 507th AAA rapidly
deployed to the Suwon airfield shortly after the Korean War kicked off. After arriving to their
destination, the troops downloaded their equipment with the support of the South Korean soldiers.

Analysis Of Donald Trump s Campaign
In an effort to control mentioning of Donald Trump, close examination of popular media outlets
with large audiences will enable the campaign to see changes to rhetoric or schedule of
statement releases (there are, on average, over 200,000 mentions every month). (Politico Staff,
2016) Campaign staff as well as Trump himself will be speaking with media in a manner that
promotes a tight hold on delegates over the course of the election. Rallies will require significant
control efforts because of protesters. Press conferences will enable the campaign to release
accurate information at appropriate times. This helps keep information circulating in the public to
be favorable. Social media is now a substantial part of elections. Releasing information and ads on
Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube will generate needed feedback from audiences.
Resources will be allocated to these sources of information because it is the most effective way of
controlling what information flows around in the public, thus allowing the campaign to have a

If children don t learn self control methods, they can be at risk of continually making the wrong
decision due to past behaviors that have become bad habits. Taking a glimpse at the 32year
children with poor self control, they appear to be less financially aware and are less likely to save
while more likely to encounter financial roadblocks. Looking over the observation of self control
gradient concluded that children with low self control had worse health, more wealth, more single
parent child rearing, and more criminal convictions, than those who had high self control. The
children who had developed self controlled from childhood to young adulthood had better results by

The Drinking Age Should Remain 18 Years Old in Australia
The Drinking Age Should Remain 18 Years Old in Australia
These days there are a number of social issues in the community, such as drug abuse, teenage
pregnancy and alcohol abuse. Alcohol abuse is rampant in today s society, Australian Drug
Foundation states that, Alcohol is the most widely used psychoactive, or mood changing,
recreational drug in Australia. (Healey, 2002, p. 11). Underage drinking and binge drinking are
some of the problems associated with alcohol abuse.
Most countries and cultures across the world experience these issues with 83% of the world
population being allowed to drink at the age of 18, and the remaining 17% of the world population
are legally allowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a custom that pervades every class in
the colony, and cannot be departed from without something more than a breach of good manners. (
Drinking Etiquette, n.d.)
Alcohol helps people remove their barriers; lose their inhibitions, and form friendships,
relationships, and acts as a social lubricant. In Australia many business deals have been conducted
over a drink or two.
In addition to the Australian drinking culture, at 18 years old you are legally an adult. Thus, society
has many expectations of young adults such as employment and study. Australian policies allow
18 year olds to vote, marry, drive a vehicle, and obtain a gun license; furthermore, it is 18 year
olds right as an adult to drink. Eighteen year olds could vote to change government, get married,
have children, enter into legally binding contracts and were treated as adults by the justice
system, Queensland Premier Anna Bligh said on a matter. (News, 2010). Before the Vietnam
War in 1962 the legal drinking age in Australia was 21. The drinking age in Australia was
lowered to 18 from 21 during the Vietnam War on the grounds that if 18 year olds could be
conscripted, they should have the right to vote and drink as well. (Urban, 2009). Therefore, the law
has been previously changed and it would be unadvisable to change the law again; these changes

The Law And Saudi Arabia Employment Law
Employees continue to be a driving force of any nation and have the capability of crystallizing
success or hastening the demise of organizations given the laws surrounding their engagement
(Goldman, Corrada Goldman, 2011). More so, the law influences employee commitment or
withdrawal from any organization in addition to affecting the areas of managerial action. The law,
therefore, gives employers and employees wide latitude to act potentially in their best interest. In
both the United Statesand Saudi Arabia, there are vital laws that guide employment. Such laws
encompass the significant remedies that focus on addressing grievances and cases of discrimination
that may occur in workplace environments. The foundation of such systems is the constitution that
provides the laws and regulations (Goldman, Corrada Goldman, 2011). The research, therefore,
focuses on comparing the United States employment law and Saudi Arabia employment law.
Employment in the US Employment is the United States remains a vital factor driving the economy
of the nation. Every industry depends on employment to progress and meets set objectives,
including the transportation, wholesale and retail, information, government, manufacturing,
healthcare, and entertainment and construction sector (Goldman, Corrada Goldman, 2011).
Furthermore, the employment sector has a workforce from different backgrounds with various
skills, knowledge and expertise. Every industry can absorb the employees depending on

Women s Role In Early Christianity
When one thinks about the leaders of early Christianity, an orthodox vision of Jesus male apostles
and disciples fills their head. While there is no doubt these men were important, their influential
women counterparts are often overlooked and underrated. For years, historians were perplexed at
the rapid spread of early Christianity, until they considered women. Women had a major role in the
rise and spread of early Christianity because they were not only numerous, but also influential in
leadership positions and converting others. More women joined the Christian Church than men
because Christianity was more appealing to women than any other religion or paganism. Christian
women enjoyed much higher status than the Greco Roman women. They... Show more content on

This, however, still would not be enough conversions to account for this tremendous influx of
followers. Women had a large part in raising the number of followers and conversions in the first
five centuries of Christianity. There is a distinction between active conversion and secondary
conversion. Active conversion is when one takes part in their own conversion and shows a
desire to change one s beliefs; active conversions mostly took place in women. Secondary
conversions are when one s religious beliefs are influenced and guide by another; secondary
conversions were common in pagan men. There was an excess of marriageable Christian women
and a deficiency of pagan women which turned out to be problematic. Christian women were then
encouraged to marry pagan men. Paul encouraged women to marry outside the religion because,
an unbelieving husband is consecrated through his wife (Stark 240). In 200, the Bishop of Rome,
Callistus, declared that Christian women could live in just concubinage without being married
(Stark 240). This was necessary at the time, especially for upper class women, because if a
Christian woman married below her class, then she would lose much of her privilege and legal
standing. This declaration from the Bishop, along with the social acceptance, resulted in more
marriages outside of the Church. Peter shared similar feelings with Paul and thought

John Bowlby Attachment And Loss Essay
Attachment: Attachment and Loss Volume 1 by John Bowlby, London, Pimlico 1997
In Attachment and Loss, John Bowlby presents his evolutionary theory whereby a baby enters the
world pre programmed to form attachments to others in order to secure their survival. He examines
the nature of the child s tie to his mother when proposing his theory and frequently refers to the
biological sciences in particular ethology, the study of animal behaviour. This was a somewhat
revolutionary approach in the field of psychoanalysis and resulted in Bowlby being referred to as
the father of attachment theory.
What Bowlby proposed is observations of the very young with particular focus paid to behaviour in
the presence and absence of the mother, allows insight into the early phases of personality
development.
Chapter 2 describes a number of observations of children in different settings, such as hospitals,
from the likes of Spitz Wolf (1946), Robertson (1962) and Heinicke (1956). They focused on the
child s behaviour ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It concludes that the role of the mother in the early months of the baby s life is to keep the child
in proximity, though it is worth noting that human foster parents of primates report intense clinging
on the part of the baby, suggesting the babies are also predisposed to remain within proximity of
the mother. Consequently, this suggests the development of an evolutionary trait that ensures
protection by the mother therefore a greater chance of survival. In human children this is
evidenced more clearly when the child begins to crawl. Ainsworth s (1963, 1969) observations
seemingly confirm that a baby able to crawl, will use the mother as a secure base from which to
explore their world. During their exploration, the child will frequently check for the mother s
presence, also witnessed is the child s tendency to follow the mother when she begins to

Cgony s Failure On The Western Front During The Vietnam War
Helped by air, strong points in defences would allow the French to block the Viet Minh s
supplies, compelling them to fall back. The plan was mainly based on the French success at the
battle of Na San the late 1952.
In June 1953,Major General Rene Cgony first thought of the idea creating a mooring point at Dien
Bien Phu in northwest Vietnam. While Cgony had visioned a slightly defended airbase, Navarre
seized on the location for trying the strong point approach.Though his soldiers protested, pointing
out that unlike the battle of Na San they would not hold the higher ground around the camp,
Navarres planning moved forward. On November 20, 1953, Operation Castor started and 9,000
French troops were were dropped into the Dien Bien Phu area over the next few days.

The writer starts off by analyzing a video and then asking the question of whether or not you are
racist if you oppose the migration of the Syrian people. Then he goes on to mention the Paris
attacks and the casualties involved. He brings up other various attacks, statistics about the
immigrants and a quote from Donald Trump. Finally, concludes the paper with his personal
views. Are we Racist? I recently watched a video where a news reporter who was of Latino
descent asked a loaded question to a Caucasian male. Are you racist? At first, the question caught
the white man, along with his accompanying African American friend, off guard. He replied, Why

Introduction Of Honey Bees Are One Of The World s Most...
Introduction Honey bees are one of the world s most fascinating insects. Although dangerous
when provoked many people underestimate there economic importance into our global system.
It is a well known fact that bees are great pollinators and are responsible for most of the food we
eat but unfortunately the bee population has been in decline for a few years due to Colony
Collapse Disorder also known as (CCD). There are many reasons for the decline in bee population.
Some of the reasons are that the human population is evidently increasing at a demanding rate. So
the need for more land to create property, demand in food is growing meaning an increase of
pesticides.

Witches, Sorcerers, And Shamans
Witches, sorcerers, and shamans are all different terms used to describe persons associated with
other worldly powers. Cautionary tales have been written about them as far back as the Old
Testament and in Homer s Odyssey. While almost every human culture has possessed the theory of
a witch, the most well known witch trials are the ones from the late 15th century to the late 17th
century in Europe. Many aspects of European life, such as art and politics, were splitting away
from the Church. Even on the cusp of a scientific revolution, the belief in witches and the
supernatural did not disappear. In this paper, I will argue that although there is no clear consensus
about what exactly defines a witch , scholars agree that witch trials were... Show more content on

The second article reviewed, Anthropological and Historical Approaches to Witchcraft: Potential for
New Collaboration?, was written by British historian Ronald Hutton in the early 21st Century. In
his writings, he discusses how different professionals, such as historians, sociologists, and
anthropologists, have all taken different approaches when studying witchcraft. He proposes setting
a model for witchcraft and using a set model to study witches and magic across the globe. He argues
that the studies done have looked at magic and witches from too narrow a lens. Hutton suggests
comparing two different societies that have had prominent histories with witches, such as European
and African witchcraft, and comparing them against one another. Hutton suggests that these two
groups have a very different history, but witchcraft reflected struggles common to all societies.
Another article discusses the domino effect of the weather and it s impact on the agricultural
economy of the time and how this explains the rise in witch trials in early modern Europe.
Witchcraft, Weather, and Economic Growth in Renaissance Europe by Emily Oster in 2004, takes
an economical approach on witchcraft and attributes the rise in prosecutions as a model of
scapegoating provoked by the deteriorating economy at the time. Oster presents findings indicating
that if the average temperature of the decade was below that of the previous decade, a

  • 2. Therapeutic Patterns In Genetic Analysis The first thing that I would go through is the method to identify the QTL. Using molecular markers to identify the presence or absence at certain lengths of DNA coupled with observed phenotypic data. In order to obtain a QTL, markers methods described above are used in order to get information from different locations within the target organisms chromosome. The organism in question has a DNAsample taken from it. At the same time, the associated trait that you are interested in (such as disease resistance) is tested for in the organism. Because of the differences between organisms and the divergence of traits, a population is generally used in order to help determine the presence of the QTL. Generally, a cross between a resistant and a susceptible individual for the trait is done, and the population that is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The LOD score is a measure of how much the trait is depicted by a certain marker. Having one or a handful of locations that make up for the trait in question is important because it allows you to have a better idea and a simplified method for determining whether the trait of interest is present. The location is also vital, as it allows you to know where the trait of interest is located at. This is important for two reasons. If you are trying to sequence the trait to get an idea of the protein structure, this gives you the ability to know the base pair sequence, so you know what amino acids are coded and have an idea of the protein structure. For a QTL cloning project, however, the location of the QTL or QTL s is important because it lets you use molecular cloning techniques in order to copy the QTL from one organism to another. Once you have the QTL s location, cloning techniques can be utilized in order to transfer the QTL of interest. The techniques that I will talk about are gene cloning using a vector, polymerase chain reaction, and gene ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Powerful Gifts Of The Holy Spirit The adversary causes plenty of division within the church over many issues. One debate in particular is the charismatic gifts of the Holy Spirit. Fortunately, it s not the argument of whether or not the charismatic spiritual gifts were part of the first century. However, the major issue at hand is whether or not the charismatic spiritual gifts are still used in today s church, or not? There are many beliefs of charismatic gifts, based off denominational sectors, church affiliations, personal experiences, and last but not least interpretation or should I say misinterpretation of the Scriptures. Many believers of Christ believe that the charismatic gifts cease after the Bible was established, and at the end of the Apostolic age. This group is better known as cessationists. In contrast, there are believers that believe that the charismatic gifts are prevalent, and available to believers today. This group is better known as continuationists. This topic can really get out of hand on both sides of the debate. The one group that says they have ceased, can be extreme by saying, people who believe they have charismatic spiritual gifts they are demonic influenced . Then the opposing side says, if you don t believe that the charismatic spiritual gifts are still in use, then you are not saved. In my personal opinion, theses agitators are totally wrong. What is very interesting is that both views use the Scriptures to support what they believe. However, there is a middle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Parenthood And Its Effects On The United States Planned Parenthood There is an ongoing argument about the funding of Planned Parenthood in the United States. There are many reasons that some people do not want to fund it. One of those reasons is because Planned Parenthood offers abortions to women. There are people who believe that these operations should be shut down to rid our country of abortions. However, Planned Parenthood offers much more than just abortions in their clinics. Planned Parenthood should be funded because of the examinations and resources they provide, the education they give, and because it is a low income health center. Planned Parenthood offers access to many important health examinations, procedures, treatments and medications. They offer breast cancer and cervical cancer exams. They test for STI s, HPV and UTI s to name a few. All of these tests and exams are preventative actions to not only see if someone has a health issue, but also to prevent health issues. They provide birth control to women who are not ready to have children. They also offer abortions. However, Planned Parenthood has decreased the number of abortions per year overall, including Vermont where Title X was passed to fund operations such as Planned Parenthood. This is because Planned Parenthood offers birth control therefore preventing unwanted pregnancies which may have ended in abortion (Zoppo 497). It is also important to note that Federal funding of Planned Parenthood does not fund abortions except for cases of rape, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Persuasive Essay On Social Media Snapchat Social media tricks people to believe others are living a ravisher life than they really are. They post only the highlights of their lives, and never the negative. It makes others view them falsely and more presentable than they actually are, which makes those viewing their profiles feel less satisfied with themselves and their lives. There are even some people who drop all social media because of how terrible it makes them feel, but there are also others who thrive for the attention of social media and go through ridiculous tasks in order to take the perfect picture. There have been many disputes over how social media websites such as Instagram or Facebook affects ones self esteem, it can knock them down. One might say that social media is a tool that helps us get connected with the rest of the world, but it is truly a recipe for disaster. One of my really close friends Lara is insanely obsessed with Instagram and Snapchat, she is on it every second of the day. Once she and her boyfriend broke up she started stalking him every day, bible. She d go on every social media website he had an account for, until one day she saw a Snapchat story (a story on snapchat is only available to the user s friends for twenty four hours). The story reveled her ex and a new girl, ever since Lara has posted an insane number of pictures on Instagram, some of them are very catfish, they don t look like her at all. • 6. Origin Of The Word Hoosier Analysis Hoosier is one of those odd words where everyone seems to know what it refers to, but no one really knows what it means. Most know that it has been adopted to refer to Indianaians, but its true meaning and origin are a mystery. This mystery is what intrigued J.P. Dunn and prompted him to write Origin of the Word Hoosier. In his work, Dunn makes the argument that there is no true known origin of the word. Dunn believes that the true stories are nothing more than legends warped by time and the facts that people believe cannot be proved to be anything more than just theory. The first fact, based upon the legendof the word hoosier, is that the word was originally used as a slang term to describe a rough, uneducated class of people. This belief has stemmed from the reasoning that a great many of the legends describe the character of the people labeled hoosier as childish and uncivilized. One such legend is told by Mrs. C. W. Bean. She recalls, One of my aunts said, What a lot of hoosiers there are in town. In surprise, I asked, Why, I am a Hoosier. ? A horrified look came over my aunt s face, and she exclaimed, For the Lord s sake, child, don t let anyone here know that you are a hoosier. I did not make the claim again, for on closer inspection the visitors proved to be a wild looking lot who might be suspected of never having seen civilization before. Essay on Nature in Context vs. Nature out of Context Nature in Context vs. Nature out of Context Nature has long been the focus of many an author s work, whether it is expressed through poetry, short stories, or any other type of literary creation. Authors have been given an endless supply of pictures and descriptions because of nature s infinite splendor that can be vividly reproduced through words. It is because of this fact that often a reader is faced with two different approaches to the way nature is portrayed. In a way it also seems that the second stanza is heavy with sleepiness, with the exception of the last four lines, as displayed in the above quote with words like the winnowing wind , Drows d , and sound asleep . The four last lines of the second stanza, as I mentioned earlier, describes Autumn in pure action, Steady thy laden head across a brook; /Or by a cider press, with patient look, by bringing out the true active lifestyle of what nature truly is. Again, through his imagination Keats is able to embark upon what he is really seeing. The purpose of the poem becomes clear in the final stanza, and in the warmth of the second line, Where are the songs of spring? Ay, where are they? /Think not of them, Thou hast thy music too, where Keats sheds light on the idea that that everything has a purpose. It would appear that Autumn, the season which robs us of the warmth of summer, where the leaves come tumbling from the trees, the season that prepares the world for a dark and cold winter ahead, has its purpose too. What would spring be without death, light without dark, but indeed it appears that Keats is thinking of life without death. Media Coursework Production Evaluation ( 760 Words ) A2 Media Coursework Production Evaluation (760 WORDS) The focus of my investigation was to analyse the representation of women in horror films. The films I had selected were Resident Evil Retribution (2012) and Halloween (1978). In the film, Resident Evil Retribution, the representation of women was stronger, whereas Halloween represented females as weak and vulnerable as they were from a different epoch. I have used codes and conventions and also subverted the representation of women in my opening sequence of the horror film. The codes and conventions I discovered include: в¦Ѓ Females are represented as weak and vulnerable в¦Ѓ The close up on Halima s face screaming (Elder Sister) The subversion of stereotypes of Trapped 2016 в¦ЃThe females are not sexually objectified в¦Ѓ Females from an Islamic background The opening sequence I have created has similar conventions to Halloween (1978). During the closing equilibrium of Judith Myer screaming, implies that she is weak and vulnerable, likewise I have included this in my horror film, where both of the young, female characters scream once they see the person with the anonymous mask. The purpose of including this element is to ensure the film is easy to market success, as stated by Steve Neal that if there are repertoires of elements in a film, audiences are more likely to see it as it follows the codes and conventions. Some of the changes people experience may cause them to have a sad outlook on certain matters, others may cause people to have a positive outlook on a matter. Just like all other humans, Charlie, from Daniel Keyes Flowers For Algernonchanges over some time too. His life drastically changes after he gets surgery to alter his intelligence level. In Daniel KeyesFlowers For Algernon, Charlie becomes a different person over the course of events. His most significant changes include his mentality towards certain people and his attitude, and also the sudden regression of his mental health after his surgery. First off, one of the main changes Charlie faces is his ability to think about other people that he uses to think where his friends. Friends are one of the defining factors of what a certain person will turn out to be like, or how they feel about certain matters. Poor friends will give second rate influences and will most likely ruin a person s life, but good friends will make a person feel happy and support this person. Charlie is faced with not so great friends in Flowers For Algernon. According to his progress reports, many of Charlie s friends bully him. Charlie does not know this at certain times during the book, but the reader does. His friends make fun of him and make him do stupid things. In Progress Report 8, on March 25, Joe Carp said hey look where Charlie had his operashun what did they do Charlie put some brains in. Charlie does not realize it, but Joe Carp is actually making fun of him to an unacceptable level where sensitive topics such as intelligence are involved. As the book goes on, Charlie slowly starts to realize that his so called friends were actually just making fun of him and laugh mainly because he did something goofy. On the contrary, Charlie is also blessed to have a few great friends and even mere acquaintances in his life. One of the most significant friends that Charlie makes in Flowers For Algernon, is Miss Kinnian. • 29. Sonnet 73 By William Shakespeare The poem Sonnet 73 by William Shakespeare follows a typical Shakespearean sonnet structure; fourteen lines, three quatrains followed by a rhyming couplet, a basic ababcdcdefefgg rhyme scheme, and predominately following iambic pentameter with one additional unstressed syllable in the first line of each quatrain and the couplet. The sonnetas a whole is an extended metaphor for the aging and process and death; however, it is broken into three smaller metaphors all supporting the speaker s impending end of life through the process of aging. Natural aspects winter, twilight, and fire are presented as an extended metaphor for the the thematic undertone of aging and death. Nature alone is emblematic of the process of aging throughout one s life. Nature is always changing, just as humans are never the same in one second to the next. Humans are an outcome of natural processes. It is only right that the aging of the speaker be represented through natures own developments. The two work simultaneously to present the journey of the speaker towards an acceptance of his death and loss love. It is through natural cycles he realizes the only condition to living is death. The metaphor begins in quatrain one with the symbolism of winter. The coloring of the yellow leaves falling from the tree clue the reader into the seasonal time period. • 31. Epigenetic Modifications on Histones Epigenetic modifications on histones and DNA exercise precise regulation of gene expression, and thus have a profound influence on cellular differentiation and function. The most widely studied modification on DNA is 5 methylcytosine (5mC) that frequently occurs in a CpG dinucleotide context. Initially, the de novo DNAmethyltransferase (Dnmt) enzymes Dnmt3a and 3b mediate the transfer of the methyl group to cytosine, while the maintenance Dnmt1 ensures subsequent propagation of this mark through cell replication cycles. Because of prominent roles in gene repression, retro element silencing, X chromosome inactivation and gene imprinting, 5mC was initially thought to be irreversible. Thanks to burgeoning evidence, it is now clear that the methylcytosine can be removed through a number of mechanisms. Passive demethylation is proposed to remove 5mC over several cell replication cycles, through exclusion of the maintenance machinery from the replication fork. Active demethylation on the other hand constitutes removal of 5mC through enzymatic hydrolysis. The discovery of Ten Eleven Transclocation (TET) dioxygenase proteins was revolutionary. The TET proteins catalyze hydroxylation of 5mC to 5hmC, and conversion of 5hmC to 5 carboxylcytosine and finally to 5 formylcytosine. These 5mC derivatives enter the base excision repair pathway (BER), resulting in replacement of the methylcytosine with an unmodified cytosine. Analysis Of My Neighbour Totoro The adventurous, visually enchanting animated Japanese movie, My Neighbour Totoro, by Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli released in 1988 in Japan, attempts to show the viewers the innocence and the sense of community in Japan before the prevalent industrialization and economic boom. The movie is set in the countryside away from the big industrialized cities. The main characters are the schoolgirl, Satsuki Kusakabe, and her younger sister, Mei Kusakabe. Their days are brightened thanks to the spirit of the forest, Totoro. Hayao Miyazaki, who is born in 1941, is incorporating his own childhood in the film. Furthermore, he focuses on the historical time the movie is set. Meanwhile, noting that the movie is made in 1988 which is during the period of the economic bubble, he reminds us of the simple Japan in the 1950s before the economic boom occupied the people of this country. In contrast to the past, people who live in the city area do not get involved with one another s business despite how Japan has practiced chonaikai for having an intimate sense of community within the neighbourhood ever since the revival of chonaikai after World War 2. Hayao Miyazaki is able to reveal this specific ambience of the Japanese community in the movie when the Kusakabe s neighbours, a young boy, and grandmother, come to help the Kusakabe family move into their new old rotten house. • 33. The Theme Of War In Trojan Barbie The average theater goer might consider only the actors, the director, and the script as he or she attempts to critique a play. However, much more occurs behind the scenes than meets the eye. What the average theater attendee may overlook are the design elements that enhance a production: set design, costume, lights, and sound. These combined elements work together to support the work of the actors by creating an atmosphere that aids the audience in connecting with a production. In the play Trojan Barbie, these design elements are connected by a common theme of war. In Trojan Barbie, the theme of war is evident in the set design. As I walked into Tatum theatre, I felt as though I was entering a war camp. There were tin barrels tipped over, and the ground looked as though it was covered in dirt. Metal fences were hanging from the upstage, and tall platforms were erected in front of these fences where I imagined soldiers would stand to watch the prisoners throughout the day. Along with platforms, wooden boxes and a wooden chair were strewn haphazardly on the ground. I could picture this scene being the result of a battle. The colors of the set were colors that I connect with war: browns, greens, and black. In addition to the set, the actors carried the weapons of war. The only way to perfect this image would be to make the photograph more visible. Coincidentally, instead the fadedness gives the portrait tonality. Impact Of Neoliberal Policies On Kenyan Workers Neoliberalism: Effects of Neoliberal Policies on Kenyan Workers Miriti Moses August 20th, 2016 Neoliberalism: Effects of Neoliberal Policies on Kenyan Workers There have been economic transitions across the world, characterized by various changes in industrialization, trading methods and policies. These changes are normally controlled by political systems. Capitalism is the most common system in the current world economy. As defined by Bhattacharya (2015), capitalism is a political and economic system in which the industry and trade of a country are controlled by private profit oriented owners instead of the state. Prior to revolution of capitalism, pre capitalist modes of production dominated the economy in most of the world countries. The pre capitalist modes of production were chattel slavery and feudalism. As argued by Marx (1867), primitive accumulation led to the transformation of pre capitalist to capitalist modes of production. According to Bhattacharya (2015), there are two types of capitalism. They are liberal and neoliberal capitalism. Liberal capitalism is a type of capitalism in which economic and political policies favor freedom of individuals, governments and non governmental organizations, social and economic institutions, promoting individual rights and civil liberties, and unrestricted development in all spheres of human endeavor. (Truman, 1955) The Army Antiaircraft Command was established as a matter of priority to insure necessary joint planning, maximum efficiency and functional readiness of Army elements that become part of an air defense system for the Continental United States (Lazar, p. 7). Throughout the Korean War, the Army Antiaircraft Command, currently known as Air Defense Artillery, had various missions. AAA units attached closely to infantry or armored divisions for additional ground support and depended completely on radio communications. However, Detachment X Ray had a different mission to execute; establish air defense. Thirty five top quality troops from 507th AAA rapidly deployed to the Suwon airfield shortly after the Korean War kicked off. After arriving to their destination, the troops downloaded their equipment with the support of the South Korean soldiers. Despite the language ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of Donald Trump s Campaign In an effort to control mentioning of Donald Trump, close examination of popular media outlets with large audiences will enable the campaign to see changes to rhetoric or schedule of statement releases (there are, on average, over 200,000 mentions every month). (Politico Staff, 2016) Campaign staff as well as Trump himself will be speaking with media in a manner that promotes a tight hold on delegates over the course of the election. Rallies will require significant control efforts because of protesters. Press conferences will enable the campaign to release accurate information at appropriate times. This helps keep information circulating in the public to be favorable. Social media is now a substantial part of elections. Releasing information and ads on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube will generate needed feedback from audiences. Resources will be allocated to these sources of information because it is the most effective way of controlling what information flows around in the public, thus allowing the campaign to have a good amount of control on publicity and media coverage. ( Drinking Etiquette, n.d.) Alcohol helps people remove their barriers; lose their inhibitions, and form friendships, relationships, and acts as a social lubricant. In Australia many business deals have been conducted over a drink or two. In addition to the Australian drinking culture, at 18 years old you are legally an adult. Thus, society has many expectations of young adults such as employment and study. Australian policies allow 18 year olds to vote, marry, drive a vehicle, and obtain a gun license; furthermore, it is 18 year olds right as an adult to drink. Eighteen year olds could vote to change government, get married, have children, enter into legally binding contracts and were treated as adults by the justice system, Queensland Premier Anna Bligh said on a matter. (News, 2010). Before the Vietnam War in 1962 the legal drinking age in Australia was 21. The drinking age in Australia was lowered to 18 from 21 during the Vietnam War on the grounds that if 18 year olds could be conscripted, they should have the right to vote and drink as well. • 47. Women s Role In Early Christianity When one thinks about the leaders of early Christianity, an orthodox vision of Jesus male apostles and disciples fills their head. While there is no doubt these men were important, their influential women counterparts are often overlooked and underrated. For years, historians were perplexed at the rapid spread of early Christianity, until they considered women. Women had a major role in the rise and spread of early Christianity because they were not only numerous, but also influential in leadership positions and converting others. More women joined the Christian Church than men because Christianity was more appealing to women than any other religion or paganism. Christian women enjoyed much higher status than the Greco Roman women. They... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This, however, still would not be enough conversions to account for this tremendous influx of followers. Women had a large part in raising the number of followers and conversions in the first five centuries of Christianity. There is a distinction between active conversion and secondary conversion. Active conversion is when one takes part in their own conversion and shows a desire to change one s beliefs; active conversions mostly took place in women. Secondary conversions are when one s religious beliefs are influenced and guide by another; secondary conversions were common in pagan men. There was an excess of marriageable Christian women and a deficiency of pagan women which turned out to be problematic. Christian women were then encouraged to marry pagan men. Paul encouraged women to marry outside the religion because, an unbelieving husband is consecrated through his wife (Stark 240). In 200, the Bishop of Rome, Callistus, declared that Christian women could live in just concubinage without being married (Stark 240). This was necessary at the time, especially for upper class women, because if a Christian woman married below her class, then she would lose much of her privilege and legal standing. This declaration from the Bishop, along with the social acceptance, resulted in more marriages outside of the Church. Peter shared similar feelings with Paul and thought ... • 48. John Bowlby Attachment And Loss Essay Attachment: Attachment and Loss Volume 1 by John Bowlby, London, Pimlico 1997 In Attachment and Loss, John Bowlby presents his evolutionary theory whereby a baby enters the world pre programmed to form attachments to others in order to secure their survival. He examines the nature of the child s tie to his mother when proposing his theory and frequently refers to the biological sciences in particular ethology, the study of animal behaviour. This was a somewhat revolutionary approach in the field of psychoanalysis and resulted in Bowlby being referred to as the father of attachment theory. What Bowlby proposed is observations of the very young with particular focus paid to behaviour in the presence and absence of the mother, allows insight into the early phases of personality development. Chapter 2 describes a number of observations of children in different settings, such as hospitals, from the likes of Spitz Wolf (1946), Robertson (1962) and Heinicke (1956). It concludes that the role of the mother in the early months of the baby s life is to keep the child in proximity, though it is worth noting that human foster parents of primates report intense clinging on the part of the baby, suggesting the babies are also predisposed to remain within proximity of the mother. Consequently, this suggests the development of an evolutionary trait that ensures protection by the mother therefore a greater chance of survival. In human children this is evidenced more clearly when the child begins to crawl. Ainsworth s (1963, 1969) observations seemingly confirm that a baby able to crawl, will use the mother as a secure base from which to explore their world. During their exploration, the child will frequently check for the mother s presence, also witnessed is the child s tendency to follow the mother when she begins to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a well known fact that bees are great pollinators and are responsible for most of the food we eat but unfortunately the bee population has been in decline for a few years due to Colony Collapse Disorder also known as (CCD). There are many reasons for the decline in bee population. Some of the reasons are that the human population is evidently increasing at a demanding rate. Cautionary tales have been written about them as far back as the Old Testament and in Homer s Odyssey. While almost every human culture has possessed the theory of a witch, the most well known witch trials are the ones from the late 15th century to the late 17th century in Europe. Many aspects of European life, such as art and politics, were splitting away from the Church. The second article reviewed, Anthropological and Historical Approaches to Witchcraft: Potential for New Collaboration?, was written by British historian Ronald Hutton in the early 21st Century. In his writings, he discusses how different professionals, such as historians, sociologists, and anthropologists, have all taken different approaches when studying witchcraft. He proposes setting a model for witchcraft and using a set model to study witches and magic across the globe. He argues that the studies done have looked at magic and witches from too narrow a lens. Hutton suggests comparing two different societies that have had prominent histories with witches, such as European and African witchcraft, and comparing them against one another. Hutton suggests that these two groups have a very different history, but witchcraft reflected struggles common to all societies. Another article discusses the domino effect of the weather and it s impact on the agricultural economy of the time and how this explains the rise in witch trials in early modern Europe. Witchcraft, Weather, and Economic Growth in Renaissance Europe by Emily Oster in 2004, takes an economical approach on witchcraft and attributes the rise in prosecutions as a model of scapegoating provoked by the deteriorating economy at the time.
