Turn the fabric by 180 degrees and position it under the needle taking a new reference point.
First try to sew straight with any number of bursts applicable to you and once you achieve this objective try to reduce the number of bursts.
Continue the process 4 as many time as possible using the same fabric.
At the end of this exercise you should be able to sew a long straight seam in a 1 or 2 bursts

Sew the flaps in place 1 cm from the folded flap edge (3/8" on seamguidelines), backstitching at the beginning and end. D. TEACHER CHECK HERE. Step Three: Sewing the Casing A. Fold down the top edge of the fabric down over the side flaps you just sewn down, aligning the top edge with the snipped line. Pin the top flap down. B. Sew 1.5 cm from the edge of the fold (5/8" on seamguidelines), backstitching at the beginning and end. C. NOTE: This will form the casing for the drawstring, so sew precisely or it may be too narrow. - 3. Smith 2015 Step Four: Lining Up the Bag Edges A. With the right sides facing together, fold the fabric in half, lining up the casing edges. B. Pin together. C. From the bottom right hand corner of the bag, measure 1.5 cm from the edge and make a mark. D. Draw a line that intersects it at 1.5 cm from the edge to create the corner pivot point. E. TEACHER CHECK HERE. Step Five: Sewing the Bag A. Sew 1.5 cm from the edge starting from the top of the bag. Backstitch at the beginning and end. B. NOTE: It is very important to backstitch at the beginning or the casing will start to fray. C. Pivot at the corner mark by leaving the needle in the fabric and rotating the garment. Stop sewing when you meet the other sewn edge. D. TEACHER CHECK HERE.
- 4. Smith 2015 Step Six: Threading the Drawstring A. Turn the bag inside out. Get a drawstring and pin a safety pin to the edge of the drawstring. B. Thread the drawstring through the casing, pushing the pin forward and straightening out the end. Step Seven: Finishing Touches A. Trim any loose threads and press if necessary. B.
