MY presentation Topic are an ideal
Transformer and a smart next
Generation digital Transformer.
What is a Transformer ???
Ans: A Transformer is a static device that
transfer same amount of ac electric power
from one electric circuit to another circuit by
electromagnetic induction of without change of
frequency. There are two kinds of transformers
these are-(1)Step Up Transformer :The
transformer which converts an electric current
of greater strength at a low voltage into an
electric current of weaker value at a high
voltage is known as step up transformer.
(2)Step down transformer : The transformer which
changes the high potential less electric current into
low potential much electric current is step down
transformer.
Why transformer
?????WHY???
Power transmitted through wires large
distances for this reasons we suffer power
loss ,due to here we need
transformer.
A transformer transmitted both voltage and
current .For transmission of electric power
over longs distances step up transformer is
used . Step down transformer is used for
domestic power supply such as radio ,
television ,tape recorder ,VCR ,VCP , electric
RI

TRANSFORMER HAS TWO
WINDING SIDE: PRIMARY
AND SECONDARY WINDINGS
Step Up Transformer Step Down Transformer
THE OPERATING PRINCIPLE OF A
TRANSFORMER
WORKING OF A TRANSFORMER
1. When current in the primary coil
changes being alternating in
nature, a changing magnetic
field is produced
2. This changing magnetic field
gets associated with the
secondary through the soft iron
core
3. Hence magnetic flux linked with
the secondary coil changes.
4. Which induces e.m.f. in the
secondary.
WHAT IS A SMART TRANSFORMER : A
SOLID STATE TRANSFORMER(SST) WITH
MANAGERIAL ROLE IN THE ELECTRIC
DISTRIBUTION GRID IS GENERALLY CALLED
SMART TRANSFORMER.
SOME SMART TRANSFORMER IMAGES
SMART TRANSFORMER FOR DISTRIBUTION
SYSTEM
Smart transformers work independently to constantly
regulate voltage and maintain contact with the smart
grid in order to allow remote administration(if
needed),and to provide information and feedback
about the power supply and the transformer.
A smart transformer (ST)provides the exact
amount of power that is needed , and
response instantly to fluctuations within the
power grid , acting as a voltage regulator to
ensure that the optimized voltage is
undisturbed . Smart transformers are
programmed to, as a default, provide an
voltage optimized power supply that directly
addresses their facility’s energy needs.
Smart transformer is better than normal
state solid transformer : Because a smart
transformer can help large commercial
facilities use power more efficiency to save
money ,power and go greener and also work
 Merits of Smart transformer : Smart
transformer receives attention by
researchers due to the following
advantages:
 (1) Smart transformer(ST) controls the
bidirectional power transfer between
unity grid and microgrid.
 (2)ST is able to aggregate information to
determine its set point of power
exchange.
 (3)Sustainable, Reliable, Reduced overall
weight and volume.
