Objectives and Vision of Smart Eye
Smart Eye's objective is to be the leading player within eye tracking for
vehicles and to maintain its position as the leading supplier of advanced
eye tracking systems for research applications. Smart Eye will be a world
leader within technology that understands, assists and predicts human
intentions and actions.
Description
Eye-tracking analysis is a research tool used to measure visual attention.
Visual attention is of interest because 83 percent of the information used in
cognitive processing is visually obtained (Wästlund et al. 2010).
Regarding consumer behavior, approximately 70 percent of purchasing
decisions are made in-store (Clement 2007). Consequently, the connection
between visual attention and consumer behavior has numerous
implications in terms of understanding consumer purchasing decisions.
History of Smart Eye Technology
Smart Eye technology was founded in 1999 with a goal to provide real-
time and completely non-invasive eye tracking.
2001 - Release of Smart Eye Pro, a system with flexible camera
configuration.
2012 -Dual camera eye tracker integrated in a computer monitor.
2013 - Fully automatic initialization for Smart Eye Pro.
2014 - Release of Blackbird, a reference system for the automotive
industry.
2015 - Release of Aurora, a removable, high-precision screen metering
system.
2016 - IPO at First North NASDAQ OMX Stockholm.
2017 - Release of Smart AI, a platform for multimodal In-Car Artificial
Intelligence.
Advantages of Smart Eye Technology
1.Eye movement is faster than other current input media.
2. No training or particular coordination is required of normal users.
3. Helpful for usability studies to understand users interact with their
environments.
4. Can determine where the user’s interest is focused automatically.
5. Helpful for usability studies to understand users interact with their
environments.
6. Robust against different lighting conditions.
7. Pupil-only tracking, Glint-only tracking, or choose Pupil-Glint Vector
tracking that provides tolerance to head movements.
8. Very quick set up. No complicated hardware to configure, simply install the
PCI card in your computer and load the software.
9. No calibration is required for many applications.
10. Automatic blink detection and suppression.
Disadvantages of Smart Eye Technology
1. The equipment is expensive.
2. Some users can't work with the equipment (for example if they wear
contact lenses or have long eye lashes).
3. Calibrating the equipment takes time; this problem may resultantly
cause the user to deviate from using the device.
4.Sometimes eye-tracking technology is not all eyes can be tracked.
5. Contact lenses, glasses, and pupil color can all impact the eye-tracking
camera's ability to record eye movements.
6. The another challenge of eye-tracking technology only records eye
movements. Therefore, eye-tracking technology needs to be paired with an
additional data collection method to accurately interpret the recordings.
