 Light based WI-FI
 Light is used instead of radio-waves to transmit
information
 Transceiver fitted LED lamps acts like Wi-Fi modems
 LED lamps can light a room as well as transmit-receive
information
 Provides illumination as well as data communication
 Radio spectrum is congested, but
the demand for wireless data
doubles each year
 Issues regarding radio spectrum,
such as capacity, availability,
efficiency, security are solved
using LIFI.
 Speed of data transmission can be
increased.
 CAPACITY
 Spectrum is 10,000 times greater than that of radio
frequency
 EFFICIENCY
 Highly efficient since LED consumes less energy
 AVAILABILITY
 Light waves available everywhere.
 SECURITY
 Cannot penetrate through walls. Hence data cannot be
intercepted.
 Operational procedure is very simple.
 If LED is ON, digital data ‘1’ is transmitted & if LED is
OFF, digital data ‘0’ is transmitted.
 LEDs varies in intensity so fast that a human eye cannot
detect it
 A controller connected at the back side of these LEDs is
used to code data.
 Also called as 5G optical communication.
All the data from Internet is
streamed into lamp driver.
Data from internet is used to
modulate the intensity of LED
light source.
Thus by fast and subtle
variations of current, optical
output can be made to vary at
extremely high speed
The photodetector picks up the
signal
The receiver dongle then
converts the tiny changes in
amplitude into a data stream.
 Data rate greater than 10 Gbps; Theoretically allowing HD
film
to be downloaded in 30 seconds
 Can be used anywhere, even in RF restricted areas; Since light
waves will not interfere with radio waves.
 Mostly LED light bulbs are used, which consumes less energy.
Hence cost efficient.
 As light waves cannot penetrate through walls, the data cannot
be intercepted; Thus provides secured communication.
 Efficient alternative to radio based wireless; since it is quick
and reliable.
 High Fidelity reproduction is used by home stereo
listeners and home audio enthusiasts refer to high-
quality reproduction of sound to distinguish it from the
poorer quality sound produced by inexpensive audio
equipment, or the inferior quality of sound
reproduction characteristic of recordings made until
the late 1940s.
 high-fidelity equipment has minimal amounts of noise
and distortion and an accurate frequency response.
Gi-Fi or Gigabit Wireless is the world's first transceiver integrated
on a single chip that operates at 60GHz on the CMOS process.
 Gi-Fi allows wireless transfer of audio and video data up to 5
gigabits per second.
 Gi-Fi is ten times the current maximum wireless transfer rate
usually within a range of 10 meters.
The Gi-Fi operates on the 60GHz frequency band.
The Gi-Fi measures 5mm square and it is manufactured using
existing complementary metal – oxide-semiconductor(CMOS)
technology.
It was developed at the National Information And Communication
Technology Research Center in MELBOURNE,AUSTRALIA.
 The core components of a GI-FI system is the
subscriber station which available to several
access points.
 It is based on standards of IEEE 802.15.3C
 The wireless span is computer network
used for communication among computer
devices (including telephones and personal
digital assistants) close to one person
 An 802.15.3c based system often uses small
antenna at the subscriber station. The antenna
is mounted on the roof. It supports line of
sight operation.
Use of Time Division Duplex for both transmission
and receiving.
Conversion of data from IF range to RF60Ghz range
The incoming RF signal is first down converted to an IF
signal centered at 5 GHz and then to normal data
ranges.
Then use heterodyne principle for this process to avoid
leakages.
And then data is transferred.
 High speed of data transfer
 Low power consumption
 High security
 Cost effective
 Small size
 Quick deployment
 Highly portable
 iDEN is a mobile telecommunications technology,
developed by Motorola , which provides its users the
benefits of a trunked radio and a cellular telephone .
 iDEN places more users in a given spectral space,
compared to analog cellular and two-way radio systems, by
using speech compression and time division multiple
access TDMA .
 iDEN is designed, and licensed, to operate on individual
frequencies that may not be contiguous.
 iDEN operates on 25kHz channels, but only occupies 20
kHz in order to provide interference protection via guard
bands.
iDEN technology offers you more than just a wireless
phone. It's a Motorola complete communications system that you
hold in your hand. Combining speakerphone, voice command,
phone book, voice mail, digital two-way radio, mobile Internet and e-
mail, wireless modems, voice activation, and voice recordings so
that you can virtually recreate your office on the road.
iDEN technology is a highly innovative, cutting-edge
system of technologies developed by Motorola to create an
ideal, complete wireless communications system for today's
fast-paced, busy lifestyle. Advanced capabilities bring
together the features of dispatch radio, full-duplex telephone
interconnect, short messaging service and data transmission
