those who are self-deluding and boastful..”

TO CONTINUE THIS LESSON # 8

”” Ye have indeed in the Messenger of Allah (ProphetYe have indeed in the Messenger of Allah (Prophet
Muhammad s.a.w.) a beautiful pattern (of conduct) forMuhammad s.a.w.) a beautiful pattern (of conduct) for
anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Final Day, and whoanyone whose hope is in Allah and the Final Day, and who

As students who have understood that development of a nobleAs students who have understood that development of a noble
disposition (disposition (ahklaaqul-Karimahahklaaqul-Karimah) requires effort at self purification, we) requires effort at self purification, we
are to seek Guidance from the Qur’an and to emulate the Path takenare to seek Guidance from the Qur’an and to emulate the Path taken
by the Prophet s.a.w. and the “by the Prophet s.a.w. and the “Salafusw-swolihSalafusw-swolih” (the early righteous” (the early righteous
pioneer).pioneer).
They were the ones whom Allah referred to as “They were the ones whom Allah referred to as “Khayra-UmmahKhayra-Ummah””
the best of people whom our Prophet Muhammad s.a.w . trained andthe best of people whom our Prophet Muhammad s.a.w . trained and
developed.developed.

We always ask Allah s.w.t. to show us the path of those whom HeWe always ask Allah s.w.t. to show us the path of those whom He
has showered Blessings and favours, when we recite thehas showered Blessings and favours, when we recite the FatihaFatiha in ourin our
prayers.prayers.

““BE CONSTANT in [thy] prayerBE CONSTANT in [thy] prayer from the time when thefrom the time when the
sun has passed its zenith till the darkness of night, andsun has passed its zenith till the darkness of night, and
[be ever mindful of its] recitation at dawn:[be ever mindful of its] recitation at dawn: for, behold,for, behold,
the recitation [of prayer] at dawn is indeed witnessedthe recitation [of prayer] at dawn is indeed witnessed
[by all that is holy].[by all that is holy].””

“And rise from thy sleep and pray during part of the
night [as well], as a free offering from thee, and thy
Sustainer may well raise thee to a glorious station [in
the life to come].”

““And say [in thy prayer]: "O my Sustainer! Cause me toAnd say [in thy prayer]: "O my Sustainer! Cause me to enterenter [upon[upon
whatever I may do] in awhatever I may do] in a manner true and sinceremanner true and sincere, and cause me to, and cause me to
leaveleave [it] in a[it] in a manner true and sinceremanner true and sincere, and grant me, out of Thy, and grant me, out of Thy
grace,grace, sustaining strengthsustaining strength!”!”

deed gets a ten-fold reward. I do not say that Alif-deed gets a ten-fold reward. I do not say that Alif-
Lam-Mim is one letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is aLam-Mim is one letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a

BEHOLD, [O Prophet,] thy Sustainer knows that thou keepestBEHOLD, [O Prophet,] thy Sustainer knows that thou keepest
awake [in prayer] nearly two-thirds of the night, or one-half ofawake [in prayer] nearly two-thirds of the night, or one-half of
it, or a third of it, together with some of those who follow thee.”it, or a third of it, together with some of those who follow thee.”

and day, is aware that you would never be able toand day, is aware that you would never be able to

“Recite, then, as much of the Qur’an as you may do with
ease. He knows that in time there will be among you sick
people, and others who will go about the land in search of
Allah's bounty, and others who will fight in Allah’s cause.”

and be constant in prayer, and spend in charity, and [thus]and be constant in prayer, and spend in charity, and [thus]

““O MANKIND! There has now come unto you an admonitionO MANKIND! There has now come unto you an admonition

[the ill] that may be in men's hearts, and ([the ill] that may be in men's hearts, and (HUDAHUDA) guidance) guidance
and (and (RAHMAHRAHMAH) grace unto all who believe [in Him].) grace unto all who believe [in Him].
Say: "In [this] bounty of Allah and in His grace -in this, then,Say: "In [this] bounty of Allah and in His grace -in this, then,
let them rejoice:let them rejoice: it is better than all [the worldly wealth] thatit is better than all [the worldly wealth] that
they may amass!they may amass!””

that has come unto thee. Unto every one of you have Wethat has come unto thee. Unto every one of you have We

““And if Allah had so willed, He could surely have made you all one singleAnd if Allah had so willed, He could surely have made you all one single
community: but [He willed it otherwise] in order to test you by means ofcommunity: but [He willed it otherwise] in order to test you by means of

The Qur’an is one of the most precious gifts from Allah to us andThe Qur’an is one of the most precious gifts from Allah to us and
is easily available. Yet, its true benefits evades us. The attitude ofis easily available. Yet, its true benefits evades us. The attitude of
““gratefulnessgratefulness ” mentioned in earlier lessons must be developed and” mentioned in earlier lessons must be developed and
applied by us regarding the Qur’an.applied by us regarding the Qur’an.
If we realise that our spiritual health is in need of healing, thenIf we realise that our spiritual health is in need of healing, then
look not elsewhere, but reflect upon and heed the message in thelook not elsewhere, but reflect upon and heed the message in the
Qur’an.Qur’an.

““Indeed, it is a noble Qur'an. In a Register well-protected;Indeed, it is a noble Qur'an. In a Register well-protected;
None touch it except the purifiedNone touch it except the purified. [It is] a revelation from the. [It is] a revelation from the
Lord of the worlds.”Lord of the worlds.”

This Qur’an being “ Kitaa-bullah ” (the book of Allah), must be
approached unlike any other book.
It is sad that we Muslims sometimes do not even know that there
are ADAB concerning how we are to approach the Qur’an. Thus the lack
of these adab only obstruct us from its benefits.
We are to be aware of the value of the Qur’an.

Condition of the reciter:
purity, politeness and quietness, facing the Qiblah
Amount to be recited – not forgetting to ensure understanding
what is being recited. Although you may not know Arabic, today
there are translations available (admittedly translation may not be
perfect, yet it can give some understanding of the meaning of the
Qur’an).
Recite it in slow and distinct manner (tartil) - middle tone-
Tajwid, makhraj, qalqalah, etc - beautify it melodiously.

To weep while reading the Quran
Fulfil the right (Haqq) of the verses recited :
eg. Saida (prostration), du’a (supplication), ta’awuz (seeking
protection of Allah), appropriate responses, etc..

““Remind me of that which I have forgotten, teach me thoseRemind me of that which I have forgotten, teach me those

WAR – ZUQ – NEE – TI – LAA – WA - TA – HU
AA – NA – AL – LAI – LI - WA – ATW
TRAA – FA - AN - NA - HAAR
““Grant me (ability for) Its recitation in the hours of the nightGrant me (ability for) Its recitation in the hours of the night
and different parts of the day,”and different parts of the day,”

WAJ – ‘AL – HU – LEE – HUJ – JA-TAN
YAA – ROB – BAL – ‘AA – LA – MEE-N
“And make it as argument point in my favour,
O Lord of all the worlds.”

“The best amongst you is one who learns the Qur’an
and who teaches it”
(Hadith reported by Bukhary)

“Those who are proficient in reciting the Qur’an will be
amongst the ranks noble of angels in servitude;
And as for those still struggling (to learn) with difficulty reciting
will receive double (the reward).”
(Hadith reported by Bukhary and Muslim)

““Then do they not reflect upon the Qur'an, orThen do they not reflect upon the Qur'an, or
are there locks upon [their] hearts?”are there locks upon [their] hearts?”

Some merely regard the mere verbalising from the Qur’an as
enough but does not go further into making efforts to understanding
the message and implementing it. Allah admonishes us:

“Whosoever speaks (elaborates) upon the Qur’an
without knowledge, let him prepare to be placed in Hell”
(Hadith reported by Bukhary)

“Whosoever speaks (interprets) from the book of Allah
relying only upon his thoughts (own personal opinion),
and even if (the interpretation is) correct,
he has committed a wrong”
(Hadith reported by Ahmad)

““Indeed, those who reverted back [to disbelief] afterIndeed, those who reverted back [to disbelief] after
guidance had become clear to them - Satan enticed themguidance had become clear to them - Satan enticed them
and prolonged hope for them.”and prolonged hope for them.”

““That is because they said to those who disliked whatThat is because they said to those who disliked what
Allah sent down, "We will obey you in part of theAllah sent down, "We will obey you in part of the
matter." And Allah knows what they conceal.”matter." And Allah knows what they conceal.”

““Then how [will it be] when the angels take them in death, striking
their faces and their backs? That is because they followed what
angered Allah and disliked [what earns] His pleasure, so He
rendered worthless their deeds.””

““Or do those in whose hearts is disease think that Allah would never
expose their [feelings of] hatred?””

“So when the Qur'an is recited, then listen to it and pay attention that
you may receive mercy.”
(Qur’an: A’-raf: 7: 204)

““And remember your Lord within yourself in humility and in fear,And remember your Lord within yourself in humility and in fear,
without being apparent in speech - in the mornings and the evenings.without being apparent in speech - in the mornings and the evenings.
And do not be among the heedless.”And do not be among the heedless.”
