The nucleus is a membrane-enclosed organelle found at the central region of eukaryotic cells that contains the cell's genetic material DNA and histone proteins. It has a roughly spherical shape around 10 micrometers in size. Within the nucleus is nucleoplasm containing chromatin and during cell division the chromatin condenses into chromosomes. The nucleus' primary functions are to store genetic information, enable protein synthesis through DNA coding for enzymes, and produce new chromosomes during cell division.
