How Was Life In The North Different From The South
How was Life in the North Different from the South
Regarding the world in the 1800 s, life in the North was very different then life in the South. There
are many areas that prove this statement to be true. Some differences include the geography, the
economy, and society. The North and the South both have some things in common. Other than that,
they are opposites when it comes to everyday life.
One noticeable difference between the North and the South is geography. In section two it states
that the North experiences all four seasons, showing that the climate patterns can vary. According to
section two, the book states that there are different places that have different physical
characteristics. For example, New England has a lot of bays, Boston has many seaports because
they are near water sources, and Pennsylvania has rich soil. The South however, only had one
weather pattern. In section three the book states that the South has long and harsh Summers and
short Winters, which shows that the South really only had two seasons: Summer and Winter.
Obviously, Summer and Winter are polar opposites. Similarly, in section three the book states that
there is a lot of land that is covered in marshes which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two places have opposites economies. In section five the author states that the North developed
machines that had interchangeable parts. This is important because instead of having to change the
whole entire machine, they can just change parts. Also in section five the book states that the
Industrial Revolution changed the work of men to the work of machines. For example, they
developed the cotton gin, which does the work of 50 people. As for the South, they based their
economy on agriculture. In section four the book states that they only owned small plantations.
This is very different from the North because they had huge factories while the South only had small

Telecommuting Good For Business
Telecommuting is the future, and it gives freedom to the one who choose to work from home.
What is the effect of telecommuting? It is much more than having the freedom to be remote than
people come to realize. Research indicates employees and employers both save time and money.
Statistics proves telecommuting is a good business practice, but some might disagree. The other
advantages for telecommutingare significant. Our business industry is quickly changing daily, but
not everyone might be on board to choose to telecommute. The choice is strictly up to you if you
are a good fit if given the opportunity. So is telecommuting good for business? While
telecommuting has some challenges; it is still a positive business practice because growing trends...

It is ultimately up to the individual or the company on how they handle the situation at hand. Yes, it
is true telecommuting does have its challenges, but there are ways of making sure one does not
become a victim of feeling alone (Dahlstrom, 2013, p.445). One of the most concerning is isolation
according to Crandall (2005), A problem that many telecommuters report is isolation from work
culture (p.32). Having the right manager for this job can make all the difference in the world if not
it can cause a domino effect thus in turns creates an unproductive environment for everyone
involved. According to Dahlstrom (2013), These challenges are likely to impact affective job
responses, and can be influenced by managerial leadership behavior (p.441). Though telecommuting
has some challenges, it is the responsibility of management to ensure the success of the

The Importance Of Being Sustainable As Well As Looking...
Sustainability in general is ensuring that the resources needed for the future are preserved and do
not run out today. It has become clear that the infinite wants of the consumer in today s society has
put a strain on the worlds resources, this means scarcity has become a greater issue. Scarcity in
general is that there are not enough resources to meet the wants of consumers. As a result it has
become more important for businesses to come up with new methods of producing renewable
energyand reducing the amount of resources required in their production process. A way of
measuring a business s sustainabilityis how a firmconducts its triple bottom line. The triple bottom
line consists of three elements a business will have to face, these... Show more content on

Being sustainable can be financially beneficial to a firm in regards to their costs. Decreased
energy consumption reduces a firms operating costs which increases the firm s share prices
(Peloza Yachnin 2008). This shows that sustainable energy consumption can help firms to be
more profitable as they can reduce their day to day running costs. An example of this would be
Marks and Spencer. Marks and Spencer put into action a program called Plan A in order to
improve their sustainability. This plan was focused on making the business become more energy
efficient and reducing their carbon footprint through a variety of methods such as reducing Co2
emissions and reducing wastage in packaging. Marks and Spencer s plan a report showed that
their energy consumption for warehouses, stores and offices increased in efficiency by 34% since
putting plan A into action. The innovation and new ways of doing things stimulated by Plan A was
leading to savings of ВЈ50m p.a. (Grayson 2011). Firms are always looking at ways to cut costs,
therefore Marks and spencer have shown that being more sustainable through being more energy
efficient is important to businesses as it can help them to accomplish this. Furthermore this will
also help them to achieve what is likely to be one of their corporate objectives, to maximise profit.
With greater profit levels, the shareholders of the firm should receive greater dividends, giving them
greater satisfaction. As

The Urban-Rural Culture Wars Of The 1920 s
DBQ
The urban rural culture wars of the 1920 s was due to myriad changes occurring in society, and
partly in cause of a new generation, angered by the events of World War I, wanting to take a
stand. Exposure to different types of culture in the 1920s varied on where one lived. In urban
places, like bustling cities, one could find modernists. Modernists were more open minded and
liberal in their thoughts. In other words, they obtained a new school way of thinking. Those in
rural places who were not exposed to the always changing city life, were more likely to be
traditionalists and focused on practices, values and views from the past. Furthermore, modernists,
from the city, and traditionalists, from the countryside, did not see eye to eye. This issue resurfaced
several times in major events of the 1920s.
There are numerous documents that further exemplify the urban rural cultural divide in the 1920s.
In document 1, an article written by Ku Klux Klan member H.W Evans, he wrote about the
traditional American values fading and the ethical collapse the country was facing:
we were dealing with strange ideas...[a] moral breakdown that has been going on for two
decades. One by one all of our traditional moral standards went by the boards, or were so
disregarded that they ceased to be binding...We found our great cities and the control of much of
our industry and commerce taken over by strangers, who stacked the cards of success and
prosperity against us (Document 1).

Biblical Worldview In The Book Of Romans
The book of Romans was written by Paul to present a basic system of salvation to a church that
had not receive the teaching of an apostle before. In this book, the basis of a biblical worldview
can be illustrated by Paul when it comes to explaining the natural world, our human identity,
human relationships, and culture. With regards to the natural world, Romans states that For
ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God
made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities his eternal power and divine nature. So they
have no excuse for not knowing God (Romans 1:20, NLT). The world was made perfect from
God s hands and science taken the credit away from Him and given it to Evolution other
erroneous ideas. It goes on to say they thought foolishly of what God was like and eventually
became lost and confused. So instead of worshipping God, they worshiped idols and God
abandoned them to do whatever their hearts wished (Romans 1:21 24). People in this world are
no different from those in Paul s days. The idols people worship today range from people,
statues, wealth, material things, etc. It may not be the physical and literal act of bowing down
to those things but in their actions, it s clear that that s all their minds are set on. Verses 25 32 is a
perfect example of how people live; a perfect example of how we are not to live. Naturally we are
all sinners but because of Jesus we can be forgiven for those sins and free from

A Dead Woman s Secret
The short story, A Dead Woman s Secret, is about a mother who just passed away. Her children,
who became successful adults because of mother s love and nurture, kneeled down beside her
bed. The thought of letting her go was terrifying, so they decided to read her old letters. The first
few stocks of letters brought a lot of positive emotions and brightened up their mood. As they dug
further down through the letters, they learned the truth that absolutely destroyed the image of a
perfect mother that they had on their mind ever since the childhood. They found love letters from
a man they never heard of. Mother s secret was extremely disappointing to handle, so they left her
alone in a darkened room. The story demonstrates how people s perspective of others can change
in a single moment because of an insignificant secret that floated after drowning in tears for
decades. The opening paragraph of the story describes how peaceful the dead womanlooked in her
bed before her children could say the final goodbye to their loving mother. Her facial features
looked calm, and her long white hair was carefully arranged as though she wanted to leave this
world as beautiful and blameless as her life was. At the beginning of the story her character was
introduced as a sweet soul that lived in that body, who managed to raise two successful children
alone by arming them with a strict moral code, teaching them religion, without weakness, and duty,
without compromise.

Auden Vs Ginsberg
Literature has a lengthy history of odds and ends that get categorized by critics as unworthy of
widespread study, yet some are the most brilliant statements of their time. W. H. Auden s book
length poem The Age of Anxiety won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1948. It, along with Allen
Ginsberg s poem Howl, are diamonds that are often disregarded by literary critics and the public
as worthless rough. Each piece was a major breakthrough in its time. Auden and Ginsberg both
attempted to define the period of time and turmoil that they lived in as members of the other in
their respective societies. Both make booming battle cries for a generation, fit well into places of
deserved canonical respect, and receive influence from political and personal... Show more content

Its worth is hotly debated. W. B. Yeats and T. S. Eliot were contemporaries of Auden s, and
being a part of that legendary group is close to an automatic deservance of being a canonical
poet. Alternate views from critics either list him as the worst of the three, yet others argue
strongly that Auden was the greatest poet of the entire 20th century for what he could do with
words and form. Content in the book length poem speak volumes of the talent that the American
immigrant had. He created something that is hotly debated as both a failure and his greatest
accomplishment, and uncertainty in making that decision make it all the more worthy to be in
the canon. His uncertainty is the only real part of the poem as Auden s character laments that
The less I feel/The more I mind (commentary mag). The best works are pieces that make one
think about their worth. Characters that seem to mean little actually have a lot to say with what
they do as well as their words. Little happens, but the characters actions comment on major
themes of the human being. Halting speeches and words take the reader inside of the mind as
frailties become clear. What this poem has to say is vastly important once one gets past the errors
in form. Psychological and social problems are concerns that Age of Anxiety covers. Verse should
be neither too free nor too formed, as human experience is also neither: breath and

Puritans In New England
The Puritans were a widespread and diverse group of people who took a stand in the 16th and
17th century in Europe. Their rise was directly related to the increased knowledge that that came to
the common people during the Enlightenment. As people learned to read and write, and as the bible
became more accessible to the commoners, many began to read the bible for themselves. The word
Puritanfirst came as a term for those who advocated more purity in the church. Under siege from
church and crown, it sent an offshoot in the 3rd and 4th decades of the seventeenth century to the
northern english colonies in the New World a migration that laid the foundation for the religious,

The basic beliefs of Puritans were Unconditional Election, which meant God chose who would
be saved and who wouldn t. A person could not persuade to change God s choice, and being a
member of the Puritan church did not mean you would be saved. Limited Atonement, which
meant that Christ s atonement did not extend to everyone, only those who were chosen to be
saved by him. Only those whom God elected received the salvation benefits of God s salvation.
Irresistible Grace, Puritans believed that once chosen by God s grace, you cannot resist it. Being
chosen meant that a person had found the right path to salvation. Being choses internally meant
that God changed a person s heart. Finally, Perseverance of the Saints, which meant a person
elected by God s grace would never depart from the path of salvation. The person would have
complete power to understand the word of God, and would never turn towards evil. The person
would instead persevere towards salvation. (our everyday life.com) Th beliefs they had were very

Consider H.L.a Hart’s Critique of Austin’s Positivist...
The question of what the law is a philosophical one, which probably has no definite answer to it.
This is evident as we have seen a lot of legal theorists trying to come with answers to the
question. Ronald Dworkin says it is a set of explicitly adapted rules and ought to maximise the
general welfare , Fuller on the other believed law should withstand the scrutiny of reason and
opposed the idea of legal positivismthat law is no higher than a particular authority , John Austin
defined it to be the command of the sovereign, backed up by sanctions , Herbert Lionel Adolphus
Hart said that law was the rules that may forbid individuals to perform various kinds of actions or
that may impose various obligations on individuals. These... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Hart says that all laws differ from the commands of a sovereign because they may apply to those
individuals who enact them (i.e. the president and the legislature) and not just to other individuals
(South African citizens). Laws may also differ from coercive orders in that they don t only have to
impose duties and obligations (primary rules of obligations) but can also confer powers and
privileges.
According to hart in order for primary rules to work properly they need secondary rules in order
to effective. The function of secondary rules is to enable legislators to make changes in the
primary rules (legislation) should the primary rules be found to be defective in any way.
Secondly they may be necessary in order to enable courts to resolve disputes over the
interpretation and application of primary rules. Therefore the secondary rules of a legal system
may include rules of recognition, change and adjudication. For these primary rules to be followed
they must be clear and understandable to the individuals to whom they apply. Therefore a legal
system is established by a union of primary and secondary rules.
Hart disagrees with Austin that the foundations of a legal system consist of habits of obedience to
a legally unlimited authority, but consist of adherence to and acceptance of an ultimate rule of
recognition, by which the validity of a primary and secondary rule may be evaluated and should it
meet the criteria for the rule of recognition

Developing Agile Software Development Methodology
Introduction
Ever since the Agile Manifesto came into existence in 2001, it has led many agile software
development processes to spurt up. Dynamic Systems Development Method (DSDM), Extreme
Programming (XP), Feature Driven Development (FDD), SCRUM and Crystal Methodologies are
some of the most famous agile software development methodology famous today (Vlaanderen et.

been found that XP and scrum are the two most common agile methodologies used currently. In
their empirical research (DingsГёyr et. al, 2012) also found that most of the existing studies on
agile methodology focus on XP and there are very limited studies done on SCRUM. The
purpose of this literature review research is to analyze the existing research available on SCRUM
methodology. This literature review will provide a broad overview on various information
researchers are providing on agile software development methodology, keeping Scrum agile
methodology in the focal point. In addition, this literature review will also address the advantages
and disadvantages of SCRUM agile methodology. This research will help the audience to gaze over
the recent study over scrum and will help in making the decision whether Scrum is the right agile
methodology for their software development project.

Mary Rowlandson s Demise Of The Settlers By Mary Rowlandson
Thesis Statement: Mary Rowlandson persuaded the settlers that the Indians were savages by talking
about the brutality they showed during the pillage, the cruelty towards the settlers when walking to
the camp, and the inhumanness of slaughtering children and babies.
After reading the piece by Mary Rowlandson, one can see why the settlers were persuaded that the
Indians were savage and barbaric. One may think this because of the many mentionings of how
they shot children and neglected people making them seem like animals. She also speaks about
how the Indians destroyed and burned their village. The Indians killed people inhumanely and took
many prisoners which they later neglected. This was expressed by explaining how a man met his
demise, He begged of them his life, promising them money (as they told me) but they would not
hearken to him but knocked him in the head, and stripped him naked, and split open his bowels. All
of these statements of what happened may now persuade someone to think that the Indians were
savage and brutal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Stuttering, also called stammering or fluency disorder, inhibits the afflicted person from speaking

of stuttering. The Core features includes Repetitions, (My my my hat), Prolongations(rrrrraaabit)

My First Time
A couple of years ago, I awakened thinking that day would be like any other, but it wasn t. That
was a day that I will never forget. It was the day my friend came to my house crying to me, lip
busted and eye blacked. My initial reaction was shooting up in rage. I was speculating who I
would have to seek revenge on. She told me who did this to her. I had to calm myself back down,
knowing the results would be the same. The assailant was her boyfriend and father of her soon
to be born son. This was not the first time he had put his hands on her, even though this was the
first time it was this severe. I asked her what she desired to do knowing that my previous
attempts at trying to help her were unsuccessful. I could not figure for the life of me why she
would continue to go back to him. She said she continued to stay with him because they had a
child on the way. Other motives for individuals staying in abusive relationships are they don t
know any better, and they don t want to feel like a failure. When people think of birthing a child
they think of togetherness. Usually, people want to be a happy family. A child can be thought
of like a fresh start for various people. There are not many people who want to raise a child alone,
so they may remain in a situation that may not be best for them. Being a single parent was a

I have long been fighting for a change in the law when it comes to family policy, so that children
have the right to know and have a relationship with both parents (elphicke.com). On February 25,
2013 Mr. Elphicke introduced a bill to Parliament which would help support Charlie s goal to put
the children first. Mr. Elphicke told Parliament that around 3 million kids in the United Kingdom
are living with separated parents and around 1 million children do not have contact with either
of their parents. The push for this bill by Charlie Elphicke was finally recognized by Parliament
on March 13, 2014 when the Children and Families Act was passed by both Houses. Another
issue that Charlie Elphicke is trying to get ahold of is the tax avoidance of big multi national
businesses. I spoke up for the need to reform our tax law fundamentally. To make sure that tax on
profits from business carried out in the UK is paid (www.elphicke.com). Mr. Elphicke says that
the problem is not the British businesses, but the companies who are world wide and do not pay
the proper corporation tax that they should pay. April 16, 2012 was the first day that the Finance
Bill was debated in Parliament and this is the bill that sets the taxes and the tax law. Charlie set
forth a couple of ideas in this Bill about anti avoidance measures. The first principle is that business
tax rates should be low, simple and attractive. Britain should be open for business, but open for
business on a level playing field for national and international companies (www.elphicke.com). After
years of continuing to debate and pushing forward the idea, under the Labour party income tax
receipts went up, while the corporation tax stayed the same. To this day, Charlie Elphicke is

Theda Bara, Mortica Addams
Throughout modern history there have been certain characters that personify the very essence
of Goth, for instance Theda Bara [1885 1995], Mortica Addams in the 1960s TV series The

Write a paragraph about why you think the University of Michigan devotes part of every January
to commemorate the life and work of Martin Luther King. Use the following articles to help you.
Above all, University of Michigan commemorates Martin Luther Kink to honor his work and
memory. It is because of people like him and other civil rights leaders that African Americans have
been afforded the multitude of opportunities that they have today. King stood for not only blacks
but for all people, including the disadvantaged and impoverished, and believed in the power of a

3) What did you like about the event? What did you dislike? What did you learn from the event
(BE SPECIFIC)?
I really enjoyed the fact that Deval Patrick did not just lecture the audience but told stories of his
own past and integrated many valuable lessons that tied back to Dr. King s ideals within his
stories. He shared his struggles as a child, fighting to make ends meet. He was supported and
guided by his teachers allowed him to imagine what it would like to be like to be a citizen of the
world. His words were very clear, concise and inspirational. I also enjoyed his honest and
acuteness during the Q A. He always responded to every question by addressing the person who
questioned him by his/her first name. I particular enjoyed his response to a question asking for his
view on the policy of expulsion and suspension of African Americanyouths in Massachusetts. He
replied that educational success does not depend on one path. Small classes matter. A student s
behavior of misconduct may be due to the fact that the child is hungry, distracted or scared. It is
vital to realize that children are hungry for the attention of adults to notice them care for them and
love them something that they may not be receiving from their own home. My only negative
comment would be that the presenter s speech that introduced Mr. Patrick and list off all his
accomplishments was very long and not

The Role Of A Social Worker
The role of a social worker involves firstly obtaining a professional qualification at degree level
set out by the Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC), who sets educational standards and
regulates for social worker training. The social worker is an intricate part of society which
supports and works with vulnerable individuals, families, children and the wider community in
order to protect these individuals from harm, neglect and abuse. Assessment is core to social
workers practice. As a social worker, professional practice entails supporting and evaluating
assessments of need and risk continually, Walker and Beckett (2003). Social workers help
individuals, families and communities to make informed choices and understand their own
resourcefulness in order to bring about positive change to their lives. However, this can involve
negotiating both complex and challenging situations. In some cases the social worker is required
to intervene where children are at risk of harm from their parent or caregiver in a crisis child
protection situation, the social worker would be required to present facts to the courts in order to
obtain a child protection order, (Section 47 of the Children s Act 1989). Ultimately the social
worker must attempt to build positive relationships in sometimes adverse situations with individuals
whom may or may not wish to cooperate, however, the social worker must where possible keep the
family together. Assessments are carried out by the social

Disorder and Misunderstanding The Crying of Lot 49
When reading Pynchon s The Crying of Lot 49 one is flooded with a deluge of historical
references (dates, places, events) and, unless a historical genius, probably feels confused as to the
historical accuracy of such references. As critics have shown, Pynchon blends factual history with
fiction and manages, as David Seed writes in The Fictional Labyrinths of Thomas Pynchon, to
juxtapose(s) historical references with reminders of the novel s status as artefact so that the reader
s sense of history and of fiction are brought into maximum confrontation (128). Pynchon, for
example, in Lot 49 speaks at length about Maxwell s Demon, a machine proposed in 1871 by
physicist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning of the novel we learn that she has been given the job of sorting it (Pierce s estate)
all out (1) which she attempts to accomplish by shuffling back through a fat deckful of days (2).
The Demon sorts molecules and thus gains information about them, which in turns allows it to
create order among chaos. Oedipa, similarly, seeks to act as a dark machine in the center of the
planetarium, to bring the estate into pulsing stelliferous Meaning (64) (Mangel 90: 1971). The
comparison couldn t be more obvious; Oedipa as machine, sorting clues, gaining information,
discovering patterns and order and, ultimately, a Meaning.
This metaphoric parallel becomes weak, however, when we realize that as Oedipa probes deeper
into the issues, other revelations...seemed to come crowding in exponentially, as if the more she
collected the more would come to her, (64). Oedipa becomes unable to accurately mimic Maxwell
s Demon; she simply cannot sort through all of the clues, nor can she place the truthful ones on
one side and the false ones on the other. This inability stems not only from the copious amount of
information she receives but the ultimately unknowable (and, as we shall see, distorted) nature of
such clues; Oedipa can never truly know if a clue is true or false. Nonetheless, the other side of
Maxwell s Demon, the side Pynchon chooses not to explicitly elaborate,

Oroonoko Sparknotes
For ages, man exemplified their desire to perform inequalities to those weaker than they. From
the oppressor in the congregation, to the monarch and his crown court, it appears that man have
a will to take over and dictate others. Oroonoko, by Aphra Behn, shows us that slavery is
immoral, shameful, disheartening, and worse than death. Liberty is an assured human right.
Oroonoko is a controlling story about the sufferings of a chivalrous, gracious prince named
Oroonoko. Through the novel, Oroonoko is presented to be a heroic prince and a friend to
numerous people especially to his fellow slaves who looked up to him and respected him like he
was a special person to them. He is given command over an army and validates his soldierly and
strategical skills by winning his battles and conquering his enemies. In the beginning of the novel,...

sufferings as a man he earned his respect from that. Kunte becomes a smart, educated man

The Exponents Of Margret Thatcherism
A: Investigation Thatcherism is defined as the conviction politics, economic, social policy and
political style of the British Conservative politician and Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher. An
exponent or supporter of Thatcherism is called a Thatcherite. During Thatcher s reign the
economy fell and unemployment rose. There were outcries from the British public against her
methods of governance. Thatcher was criticised for her blatant lack of sympathy for the poor.
However, Margret Thatcher is regarded as one of the most influential leaders in recent history.
Margaret Thatcher was born as Margaret Hilda Roberts on October 13th, 1925 in Grantham,
England. She was introduced to politics at an early age by her father who was a member of the
town council. Thatcher was an academic and graduated from Oxford University with a degree in...

Edward R. Murrow Sociology
To complete the service learning component of this course, I assisted Dr. Finley in conducting
research used to create an encyclopedia of documentary films on the subject of crime or the
criminal justice system. Documentary filmmaking is one of the oldest forms of motion picture. In
1919, when motion pictures were in their infancy, a Russian filmmaker by the name of Dziga
Vertov criticized the Soviet film industry for creating the same fiction found in theaters and in
literature instead of documenting real life events. He likened film dramas to religion in that they
are the opium of the masses . It was not until 1922 that Robert Flaherty created the first true
documentary. Nanook of the North was the first full length film to use modern techniques, such as
third person narration, taking a subjective tone, and using an indigenous person as the film s hero.
(UC Berkeley Media Resources Center, n.d.) While Nanook was the first documentary, it was not

the face of documentary filmmaking. Through the 1960s and 70s, filmmakers covered social and
political topics from new points of view, using documentaries as a form of activism and with a
focus on the narrative story telling aspect. The 1980s saw the development of the mockumentary ,
using a script and fictional characters but filmed using the same style as a typical documentary.
The 1980s also saw the expansion of PBS funding and production of informative and point of view

those shows are more akin to mockumentaries than reality. (UC Berkeley Media Resources Center,

Driscoll Model Of Reflection In Nursing
INTRODUCTION The professional value that I have chosen to reflect on from my practice is
based on privacy and dignity for a patient admitted in the hospital. To enhance my reflection
development, Driscoll (2007) model of reflection; What? So what? Now what? will be apply.
According to (Lowenstein, Bradshaw, and Fuszard, 2004), reflection is the method of analysing
and reviewing one s practice as a nurse, with the aim of improving one s interactive skills with
both patient and colleagues. Reflection is a method of re evaluating practice accounts and
providing substitute tactics to doing things (Howatson Jones, 2016). Reflection is a vital

What Are The Stakeholders Of The Better Business Bureau

consumers who are unable to obtain redress from companies (p. 3).

Christianity Dbq
During the Medieval Era in Europe, Christianity was seen as a threat to the Roman Empire due to
Christians refusing to worship other gods or the emperor. As a result, many Christians were
persecuted due to their refusals. However, after the fall of the Roman Empire, the church became
dominant in Europe. Christianity(Catholicism) was the only religion that was recognized during
this specific era. Christianity began its spread from the north and to the west into Europe. It was

This document represents an effort by England s rebellious nobility to ensure that the King could

later became the founding document for the development of justice and law in England. I
believe this document was based and made for the people. With the unsuccessful foreign

The distinction between culturedness of the classes is a socially constructed distinction and is

Police Officer Shootings
Yes I do feel that our police departments generally do a good job of screening applicants. The
Knoxville Police Department employees 397 police officers to protect the city of Knoxville, which
had a population of 185,638 in 2015 (UCR, n.d.). According to the statistics on officer involved
shootings from the Knoxville PoliceDepartment there showed to be no shootings in 2015 but in
2014 there were five officer involved shootings, three of which were fatal for the suspect
(knoxvilletn.gov, n.d.). In each of these cases the officers were exonerated from liability as their
actions were found to be within departmental policy (knoxvilletn.gov, n.d.). I feel that the
psychological testing of incoming officers is an important aspect to ensure we hire the most

The Tobacco Advertising Ban
Some of the arguments which support the placing of the tobacco advertising ban in India are:
В· Some might feel that people s freedom of choice is being affected by this ban imposed by the
government but it could also be argued the state should be able to intervene in a situation where its
subordinates health is at risk, just like a father looks after his underage baby who is not aware of
what is good or harmful for him. The country s government would be doing what is best for its
citizens even if they disagree with the decision as it is being carried for their greater good.
В· Countries like Belgium and France declared that banning tobacco was not unconstitutional as the
right to freedom of trade right was not being affected and at the same time the good health of its
nationals was being persued. This same argument can be applied to the people of India and its
tobacco firms as they are still allowed to offer their products in shops and other establishments. The
advertising ban would not hinder their right to trade their products with the community.
(Morris, P., 2011).
В· The RJ Reynolds Tobacco company, in the US, was found guilty of trying to incite under age
citizens to smoke and had to remove its mascot, Joe Camel, from its advertising campaign as it
was deemed that this figure was appealing to young people and would increase their interest in
starting to smoke. It was also revealed that this firm was viewing young people between the ages of

many different percussion instruments, and begins in the second section of the song. At first listen,
the song sounds more like different layers of rhythmic patterns, but the combination of these
patterns creates a distinct melody. Unlike in common western music, the melody is being created
through the use of layers and counterpoint rather than a solo instrument. This is very common in
the ancient African music that Olatunji learned. The melody is played in a pentomic scale, but
because a lot of Nigerian drum music is improvisation, it is difficult to identify the specific major
or minor scale.
The harmony is a harder concept to grasp in Olatunji s musical works because of the style of
Nigerian drum music. Nigerian drum music is commonly layers of instruments put together.
Because each instrument has its own leading role, it is hard to hear which instrument is specifically
harmonizing with the other instruments. In Oya (Primitive Fire) however, the harmony is a bit
more prominent; the harmony is played by the drums in section two. In this section there are two
sets of drums being played.

My Community Service Hours, By Paul Magedson
For my community service hours, I went to the Good Earth Organic Farm in Celeste, TX owned
by Paul Magedson. It is a certified organic farm that prides itself on not using extensive herbicide
and pesticide use[d] by intensive conventional agriculture (Andreatta 2000 p.40). Paul s farm
grows and sells organic produce such as cucumbers, strawberries, okra, kale, and tomatoes. He
sells grass fed lamb from the sheep has raises on his farm and he also has chickens. To complete
my hours, I went on two trips to the farm. Our first task was to pick okra and I instantly realized
why farmers are known to have tough hands. As a half hour into picking okra I had two large
blisters on both my thumbs. After picking the okra we weeded the tomato garden. This is where
I began to understand just how hard farming is, since weeding in the hot Texas is tiring. Once
we were done weeding, Paul served us lunch of a fruit smoothie and kale salad. Once we got our
lunch we all sat on his porch and discussed how Paul started farming and his views on
industrialized food. Paul began farming because of his ex wife, which I think made him regret
farming as he talked about if he knew how hard farming was he would not have started his own
farm business. However, he did have a passion for growing organic foodas he believed the reason
we are getting cancer is because of all the chemical in our food. After lunch was done he took us
to see sheep and I was amazed at how many of them there were. We learned

Jane Holland s Pulse Poem Meaning
psychological and emotional tension involved in the persona of the woman poet energizes the
imaginative and linguistic fabric of their compositions. Jane Holland s Pulse shows the gender
negotiation and pluralism we emphasize: I am not a woman poet./ I am a woman and a pot,/ The
difference is in the eyes .In the difference on which Holland retorts the female eye / I overwrites
the disempowering effect of the male gaze traditionally inscribed in lyric poetry. Jackie Kay
enforces the point: What women poets need is to be able to come together on the basis of our
differences and non differences and not on the basis of our similarities (Kay 124).
The dynamic of difference has much relation with our decision to include non British poets who
have settled, or have simply been published, in Britain, and whose work can be shown to have
particular significance in their contemporary literary critical environment. This helps us to record
the ways in which women s poetry contributes to the porosity and pluralism of ... Show more

Coachella Valley Drought
Water On Mars, But Not In California
The Coachella Valley is a civilization built by water, sustained by water, and requires an awful lot
of this rapidly diminishing resource. As a hub for tourist activities such as golfing which use
copious amounts of water just to stay operational, the Valley must address Californias growing
drought. One would think that California should be the last state experiencing a water shortage
because it is bordered by the largest body of water in the world, the Pacific Ocean, however this
is not the case at all. Because the Pacific is an ocean, its water must be purified which is a long
and expensive process, and because of the hot and dry natural climate, California is especially prone
to drought, no matter how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The response to this statewide disaster requires the combined efforts of all state agencies and
the state s model mutual aid system to address. In support of this unified effort, all state agencies
with a role in supporting drought mitigation and relief efforts are organized under the Incident
Command System and will continue provide emergency planning, response, and mitigation
support as long as needs exist and hopefully this need will not be a need for very much longer.
The Task Force is currently coordinating with other relevant national and international efforts
including the emerging National Multi Model Ensemble and the international effort to develop
a Global Drought Information System and a subgroup of the NOAA Drought Task Force
recently released a science assessment looking at the relationship between El NiГ±o and the
California drought which states that the impacts of El NiГ±o on California winter precipitation
are likely to be greater in late winter than in early winter; southern California has a stronger
chance of wet conditions than northern California; and, in case of a very strong El NiГ±o, heavy
precipitation is more likely across the entire state. This is a positive sign for Californians

Self Dehumanization
Power allows people to control outcomes with respect to both the environment and the self . This
control is considered to be a fundamental human need ; therefore, it follows that powerlessness will
disrupt an individual s sense of humanity, which coincides with the fact that many civilizations have
equated power deprivation with humbleness, lowliness, and fewer expressed human traits. We
based the current study on this notion in order to demonstrate that perceived powerlessness induces
self dehumanization.
The world is changing rapidly. From the Stone Ageto the Iron Age today we are living in an
ultramodern era where things which were not even thought of earlier have become vital
necessities in our life. For example, light in those ages was to be got only from sun for a limited
part of day. But now we have electricity for all time use. Thanks to Thomas Alva Edison who by
inventing electricity illuminated the whole world.
Now we can t think life without electricity. In big cities everything depends upon it. We find
ourselves completely paralysed whenever there is power failure in our area. Electricity provides all
comforts of life and life would be completely different in absence of it.
We will have to use earthen lamps, lantern or candle light instead of electric bulbs and tubes as it
is now. If there would have been no electricity, people would not have become so luxurious with
coolers, airconditioners, refrigerators, room heaters and other electric appliances. The

Personal Statement Of Faith By God
PERSONAL STATEMENT OF FAITH
As a man purchased by God through his Son, I believe it is necessary to clearly state, in a concise
manner, the closed handed truths I believe as guided by Scripture. My Statement of Faith
summarizes essential Christian beliefs, shows unity in Christ, and guards me from potential error.
I affirm these gospel truths, with the understanding that my confidence in these truths grows
progressively over time. These beliefs are great cause for joy. Far more than just words on a page,
they are precious gifts from God.
I.The Scriptures.
I believe that the 66 books of the Bible are God s word revealed to us, written by God s apostles
and prophets. In its original manuscripts it contains truth without error as it unfolds the story of
God his creation, our fall, his redemption and restoration; therefore it is, and will remain to the end
of the world, the true center of Christian union. The Scriptures are the supreme standard by which
all human conduct, creeds, and opinions should be tried.
II.The Triune God.
We believe that there is one, and only one, living and true God. He is an infinite, intelligent Spirit,
the Maker and Supreme Ruler of heaven and earth, glorious in holiness, and worthy of all possible
worship, trust, and love. In the unity of the Godhead there are three persons: the Father, the Son,
and the Holy Spirit, equal in every divine perfection, and executing distinct but complimentary
offices in the great work of redemption.

Summary Of Snow Falling On Cedars By Horace Whaley
In Snow Falling on Cedars, during an investigation of a murder, Horace Whaley who has racial
prejudice against Japanese provides an evidence that intentionally points to the Japanese
American Miyamoto. Whaley told the sheriff Art Moran that Carl s head wound resembled
wounds he had seen inflicted by Japanese soldiers skilled in the martial art of kendo (Guterson

heritage and being top in his class makes him look like a murderer. The reason for this weaponry
is because of the need of self defense and uses it for protection. Because Whaley hates Japanese

Life Of A Serial Killer
As members in today s data fixated society, we are always being reminded of the horrific acts
that people nowadays are able to commit. One watches the news and catches wind of a
homicide, or reads an interesting book about killers. The only time that the New York Daily
News has ever surpassed the New York Times, was the point at which the feature showed the true
identification of Jack the Ripper (Landau, Harding, 2014). As you wade through these odds and
ends of reality, one cannot resist the urge to be unearthed by the idea, what makes a person
effectively commit such repulsive acts? There have been wide ranges of studies done with
expectations of discovering an answer. For a crimeas heinous as serial murder, there are two
primary theories. The key notion is that serial killing is brought about by a variation from the norm

Evaluation Of A Team Training Program
If I were the coach of a softball team and had to formulate a pre season, in season, and post
season work out program I would start by making a list for each to stay on track. For pre season,
things I would bullet point would be; running, weight training, skill specific sessions and
learning strategies. Next would be for in season practices and this is going to be my
maintenance phase. Last is the post season part that is focusing on getting ready for the next
year so I would bullet point these topics; weight training, running, skill specific practices, and
leave room for participation in other sports as well. A pre season training program should start 8
12 weeks prior to the first competition date (Powers 2012). This part of the season is to increase
energy systems used in this particular sport to their maximum potential. With my softball team in a
pre season session, I would start with weight training and running to increase each individual
player s strength and endurance. Strength and endurance training should be done on alternating
days to optimize strength gains but can be done together depending on what the coach is trying
to accomplish. According to Powers, if these two types of training are done together, there may
be a lower gain in strength than with only strength training itself. Things that I would like to do
for endurance with softball players would be home to outfield sprints with walk back recoveries
about 8 to 10 times with 3 sets of high knee drills for 20

The system will become an action tool to help lead the organization toward transforming and
redesigning the health care within the community.
Human resources planning and allocation are critical links between the human resources strategy
plan and the organizational business plan. Assessing the future needs will require information about
current employee levels and their skills, along with projections of patient needs. Another
requirement are analytical tools for asking the what if questions when exploring alternative service
strategies.
The health care organization will utilize the computerization within its function to experience a
number of strategic advantages. The three advantages are;
В•HRIS enables the hospital s human resource department to make a more active role in
organizational planning. Computerization will make forecasting more timely, cost effective, and
efficient.
В•Integration and storage in a single database all of the human resources information
В•HRIS will accelerate the process of comparing costs and benefits of human resources activities.
The need for analysis, collection and management of human resources information has outpaced the
development of human resources information systems in many health care organizations.

How Red Effects Human Emotion and Behavior Essay
There is an influence constantly working on our minds, one that we may not have even noticed.
It follows us everywhere, and we can t escape it no matter how hard we try. It doesn t make a
sound or move, it just silently hides in plain sight effecting the way we think. Colors are one of the
most effective yet least thought about influences on our minds. How come seemingly every super
hero has a redsuit? Or why are the super villains always wearing black? Why are hospitals never
painted red, and most businesses have white, yellow, and red for their logo colors? The most
emotionally intense coloris arguably red. Even though we don t always notice it, red effects our
moods, how we perceive others, our health, and even how we talk. It also... Show more content on

If one competitor is weak and another is strong, wearing red won t change that. But the closer
the levels of the two players, the more the color will have an influence on the other opponent
(Ahmed Abdul Sherif). Having red as a team color can make the other team feel anxious, cause
them to make more mistakes, and even feel guilt or hatred while in the game. Pink, a lighter
shade of red, has a slightly different effect. Though still a shade of red, it has a dramatic
difference in how it can make us feel. Pink sneaks in feeling of love, serenity, and can drain
energy. Which is why often times teams paint their opponents locker rooms pink, in hopes to
make them a little more relaxed and drained before games. Clothing A study at University of
Rochester was done on how the color red can effect how men think of women. In the first test,
they held up one of two pictures. Both were pictures of the same woman, but she was wearing
red in one, and blue in the other. In the second test, they held up one of two pictures as well. The
two pictures were exactly alike, but one had a red border around the picture, and the other had
black. On average 85% of the men said the woman with either the red border or the red shirt was
more attractive. They also said they would be willing to do more for and spend more on the
woman in red (someone). This wasn t the case when asked which woman looked more intellectual.

Monsters and The Moral Imagination by Stephen Asma
Throughout history we see monsters taking many different shapes and sizes. Whether it be a ghoul
in the midst of a cold nightly stroll or a mass genocide, monsters are lurking everywhere and our
perception of what monsters truly are, is enhancing their growth as a force with which to be
reckoned. Fear of the unknownis seen throughout time, but as humans progress we are finding
that things we once were afraid of we are less frightening than they once were. Monsters can evoke
fear in their targeted victims rather than physically harm their victims. For instance, every year a
new horror film is released with the next scary beast, but why do we call something a monstereven
if we know it is not real? Even certain people and creatures are... Show more content on

The more we begin to understand a monstrosity, the less we fear the monster itself, however, we
fear the actions of the creature itself. Perhaps it is this fear that draws us closer to the unknown
and the monsters thrive upon this fear we have. Asma discusses how this fear allows for
individuals to play out scenarios in their minds; we then use the events to ultimately ask
ourselves, what will I do in a situation like that (Asma)? Dating back to the early days of Christ
in a biblical era, we see monsters have always been on the rise. Stephen Asma s chapter on
Biblical Monsters in On Monsters shows how godly monsters were on the rise in the Medieval
eras. Whether it was gods testing of one s faith, or individuals justifications as to why monsters
were on earth, we can see the rise through this Medieval period as gods uses of monsters varies.
In Asma s subsection over The Apocalypse, he discusses numerous interactions between good and
evil monsters where they are disguised almost as that of a symbolic gesture. For instance, Asma
explains how God sometimes will use his monstrous capabilities to cause harm to an individual to
test ones faith. We see this in particular when the devil convinces God to test Job this way (Asma
64).Throughout this period in time, we see the classic biblical beasts such as the Behemoth and
Leviathan at work. These monsters, among

Comparing The Time Period Of Joseph Hansberry s The Sun
As you begin to compare the time period in which A Raisin in the Sun was written, the 1950s, and
now, you can find many similarities and differences regarding racial equality in the Chicagoland,
even more specifically the south side. The Younger family, deriving from the African American
descent, in Lorraine Hansberry s play, has trouble finding happiness when they are surrounded by
successful white people, while they are stuck living in a two bedroom apartment and struggle to
make ends meet. In the 1950s, it was much harder for African Americans to find jobs where they
could make a substantial living to provide for their families, but in today s society the opportunities
for the black racehave improved immensely, although a problem with their pay grade still persists.
On the other hand, the two time periods are similar in the respect that the environment on the
Southside of Chicago today is very similar to what it was like almost 60 years ago. Additionally,
just like in the play, police force continues to be an issue, whether that be because they favor a
certain race, or police brutality; shooting people with the wrong intentions. More problems that
exist today include, gang violence, protests, and segregated schools in the poorer black
communities. While the Chicagoland continues to struggle with problems regarding racial equality,
they have made many improvements such as the development of organizations to keep children off
of the streets and out of trouble as well as

Operations Strategy at Galanz
1. What were the order winners/order qualifiers for Galanz in the microwave oven business during
the early stage of its development?
Quality is one of most important factors for order qualifiers because it provided reliability for
customers to use them. However, the low price strategy was the order winner during the early
stage of development of Galanz. To win orders, Galanz adopted a low price strategy. Low product
prices which can be afforded by domestic market triggered more demand. With this increased
demand, Galanz achieved greater economies of scale, which helped to lower costs and prices
further. In addition, it also attracted foreign manufacturers to transfer their production facilities to
Galanz. With the cheap price of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This contrasts with traditional Western operating hours of 40/week and allowed them to increase
production scale and reduce production costs relative to many of their competitors. Finally they
pursued vertical integration of the supply chain to reduce costs and improve quality, leading to
90% of Galanz s microwave parts being produced by Galanz itself. Each of these operational
strategies support the competitive cost leadership strategy by exploiting economies of scale to
generate large scale production and achieve low cost efficiency.
5.What are the differences between OEM/ODM versus OBM in terms of production, design,
marketing, distribution, and customer service?
Original equipment manufacturers produce a necessary component of another company s product,
often relying on economies of scale to drive down production costs. OEM s typically don t
provide customer support, instead passing on those responsibilities to their client whom bought the
original product. Original design equipment manufacturers on the other hand, produce a product
that is eventually rebranded once purchased by another company and can be thought of as
outsourcing . The main difference between the two is that OEM s produce a product by their
own specifications, while ODM s produce products by another company s specifications. ODM s
also aren t in charge of final distribution, while OEM s are. Another difference is that unlike OEM
s, ODM s also

  • 2. How Was Life In The North Different From The South How was Life in the North Different from the South Regarding the world in the 1800 s, life in the North was very different then life in the South. There are many areas that prove this statement to be true. Some differences include the geography, the economy, and society. The North and the South both have some things in common. Other than that, they are opposites when it comes to everyday life. One noticeable difference between the North and the South is geography. In section two it states that the North experiences all four seasons, showing that the climate patterns can vary. According to section two, the book states that there are different places that have different physical characteristics. For example, New England has a lot of bays, Boston has many seaports because they are near water sources, and Pennsylvania has rich soil. The South however, only had one weather pattern. In section three the book states that the South has long and harsh Summers and short Winters, which shows that the South really only had two seasons: Summer and Winter. Obviously, Summer and Winter are polar opposites. Similarly, in section three the book states that there is a lot of land that is covered in marshes which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The two places have opposites economies. In section five the author states that the North developed machines that had interchangeable parts. This is important because instead of having to change the whole entire machine, they can just change parts. Also in section five the book states that the Industrial Revolution changed the work of men to the work of machines. For example, they developed the cotton gin, which does the work of 50 people. As for the South, they based their economy on agriculture. In section four the book states that they only owned small plantations. This is very different from the North because they had huge factories while the South only had small ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Telecommuting Good For Business Telecommuting is the future, and it gives freedom to the one who choose to work from home. What is the effect of telecommuting? It is much more than having the freedom to be remote than people come to realize. Research indicates employees and employers both save time and money. Statistics proves telecommuting is a good business practice, but some might disagree. The other advantages for telecommutingare significant. Our business industry is quickly changing daily, but not everyone might be on board to choose to telecommute. The choice is strictly up to you if you are a good fit if given the opportunity. So is telecommuting good for business? While telecommuting has some challenges; it is still a positive business practice because growing trends... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is ultimately up to the individual or the company on how they handle the situation at hand. Yes, it is true telecommuting does have its challenges, but there are ways of making sure one does not become a victim of feeling alone (Dahlstrom, 2013, p.445). One of the most concerning is isolation according to Crandall (2005), A problem that many telecommuters report is isolation from work culture (p.32). Having the right manager for this job can make all the difference in the world if not it can cause a domino effect thus in turns creates an unproductive environment for everyone involved. According to Dahlstrom (2013), These challenges are likely to impact affective job responses, and can be influenced by managerial leadership behavior (p.441). • 4. The Importance Of Being Sustainable As Well As Looking... Sustainability in general is ensuring that the resources needed for the future are preserved and do not run out today. It has become clear that the infinite wants of the consumer in today s society has put a strain on the worlds resources, this means scarcity has become a greater issue. Scarcity in general is that there are not enough resources to meet the wants of consumers. As a result it has become more important for businesses to come up with new methods of producing renewable energyand reducing the amount of resources required in their production process. A way of measuring a business s sustainabilityis how a firmconducts its triple bottom line. The triple bottom line consists of three elements a business will have to face, these... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being sustainable can be financially beneficial to a firm in regards to their costs. Decreased energy consumption reduces a firms operating costs which increases the firm s share prices (Peloza Yachnin 2008). This shows that sustainable energy consumption can help firms to be more profitable as they can reduce their day to day running costs. An example of this would be Marks and Spencer. Marks and Spencer put into action a program called Plan A in order to improve their sustainability. This plan was focused on making the business become more energy efficient and reducing their carbon footprint through a variety of methods such as reducing Co2 emissions and reducing wastage in packaging. Marks and Spencer s plan a report showed that their energy consumption for warehouses, stores and offices increased in efficiency by 34% since putting plan A into action. The innovation and new ways of doing things stimulated by Plan A was leading to savings of ВЈ50m p.a. (Grayson 2011). Firms are always looking at ways to cut costs, therefore Marks and spencer have shown that being more sustainable through being more energy efficient is important to businesses as it can help them to accomplish this. Furthermore this will also help them to achieve what is likely to be one of their corporate objectives, to maximise profit. With greater profit levels, the shareholders of the firm should receive greater dividends, giving them greater satisfaction. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Urban-Rural Culture Wars Of The 1920 s DBQ The urban rural culture wars of the 1920 s was due to myriad changes occurring in society, and partly in cause of a new generation, angered by the events of World War I, wanting to take a stand. Exposure to different types of culture in the 1920s varied on where one lived. In urban places, like bustling cities, one could find modernists. Modernists were more open minded and liberal in their thoughts. In other words, they obtained a new school way of thinking. Those in rural places who were not exposed to the always changing city life, were more likely to be traditionalists and focused on practices, values and views from the past. Furthermore, modernists, from the city, and traditionalists, from the countryside, did not see eye to eye. This issue resurfaced several times in major events of the 1920s. There are numerous documents that further exemplify the urban rural cultural divide in the 1920s. In document 1, an article written by Ku Klux Klan member H.W Evans, he wrote about the traditional American values fading and the ethical collapse the country was facing: we were dealing with strange ideas...[a] moral breakdown that has been going on for two decades. One by one all of our traditional moral standards went by the boards, or were so disregarded that they ceased to be binding...We found our great cities and the control of much of our industry and commerce taken over by strangers, who stacked the cards of success and prosperity against us (Document 1). • 8. Biblical Worldview In The Book Of Romans The book of Romans was written by Paul to present a basic system of salvation to a church that had not receive the teaching of an apostle before. In this book, the basis of a biblical worldview can be illustrated by Paul when it comes to explaining the natural world, our human identity, human relationships, and culture. With regards to the natural world, Romans states that For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God (Romans 1:20, NLT). The world was made perfect from God s hands and science taken the credit away from Him and given it to Evolution other erroneous ideas. It goes on to say they thought foolishly of what God was like and eventually became lost and confused. So instead of worshipping God, they worshiped idols and God abandoned them to do whatever their hearts wished (Romans 1:21 24). People in this world are no different from those in Paul s days. The idols people worship today range from people, statues, wealth, material things, etc. It may not be the physical and literal act of bowing down to those things but in their actions, it s clear that that s all their minds are set on. Verses 25 32 is a perfect example of how people live; a perfect example of how we are not to live. • 10. A Dead Woman s Secret The short story, A Dead Woman s Secret, is about a mother who just passed away. Her children, who became successful adults because of mother s love and nurture, kneeled down beside her bed. The thought of letting her go was terrifying, so they decided to read her old letters. The first few stocks of letters brought a lot of positive emotions and brightened up their mood. As they dug further down through the letters, they learned the truth that absolutely destroyed the image of a perfect mother that they had on their mind ever since the childhood. They found love letters from a man they never heard of. Mother s secret was extremely disappointing to handle, so they left her alone in a darkened room. The story demonstrates how people s perspective of others can change in a single moment because of an insignificant secret that floated after drowning in tears for decades. The opening paragraph of the story describes how peaceful the dead womanlooked in her bed before her children could say the final goodbye to their loving mother. Her facial features looked calm, and her long white hair was carefully arranged as though she wanted to leave this world as beautiful and blameless as her life was. At the beginning of the story her character was introduced as a sweet soul that lived in that body, who managed to raise two successful children alone by arming them with a strict moral code, teaching them religion, without weakness, and duty, without compromise. ... W. H. Auden s book length poem The Age of Anxiety won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1948. It, along with Allen Ginsberg s poem Howl, are diamonds that are often disregarded by literary critics and the public as worthless rough. Each piece was a major breakthrough in its time. Auden and Ginsberg both attempted to define the period of time and turmoil that they lived in as members of the other in their respective societies. Both make booming battle cries for a generation, fit well into places of deserved canonical respect, and receive influence from political and personal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Its worth is hotly debated. W. B. Yeats and T. S. Eliot were contemporaries of Auden s, and being a part of that legendary group is close to an automatic deservance of being a canonical poet. Alternate views from critics either list him as the worst of the three, yet others argue strongly that Auden was the greatest poet of the entire 20th century for what he could do with words and form. Content in the book length poem speak volumes of the talent that the American immigrant had. He created something that is hotly debated as both a failure and his greatest accomplishment, and uncertainty in making that decision make it all the more worthy to be in the canon. His uncertainty is the only real part of the poem as Auden s character laments that The less I feel/The more I mind (commentary mag). The best works are pieces that make one think about their worth. Characters that seem to mean little actually have a lot to say with what they do as well as their words. Little happens, but the characters actions comment on major themes of the human being. Halting speeches and words take the reader inside of the mind as frailties become clear. What this poem has to say is vastly important once one gets past the errors in form. Psychological and social problems are concerns that Age of Anxiety covers. Verse should be neither too free nor too formed, as human experience is also neither: breath and ... This is evident as we have seen a lot of legal theorists trying to come with answers to the question. Ronald Dworkin says it is a set of explicitly adapted rules and ought to maximise the general welfare , Fuller on the other believed law should withstand the scrutiny of reason and opposed the idea of legal positivismthat law is no higher than a particular authority , John Austin defined it to be the command of the sovereign, backed up by sanctions , Herbert Lionel Adolphus Hart said that law was the rules that may forbid individuals to perform various kinds of actions or that may impose various obligations on individuals. These... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hart says that all laws differ from the commands of a sovereign because they may apply to those individuals who enact them (i.e. the president and the legislature) and not just to other individuals (South African citizens). Laws may also differ from coercive orders in that they don t only have to impose duties and obligations (primary rules of obligations) but can also confer powers and privileges. According to hart in order for primary rules to work properly they need secondary rules in order to effective. The function of secondary rules is to enable legislators to make changes in the primary rules (legislation) should the primary rules be found to be defective in any way. Secondly they may be necessary in order to enable courts to resolve disputes over the interpretation and application of primary rules. Therefore the secondary rules of a legal system may include rules of recognition, change and adjudication. For these primary rules to be followed they must be clear and understandable to the individuals to whom they apply. Therefore a legal system is established by a union of primary and secondary rules. Hart disagrees with Austin that the foundations of a legal system consist of habits of obedience to a legally unlimited authority, but consist of adherence to and acceptance of an ultimate rule of recognition, by which the validity of a primary and secondary rule may be evaluated and should it meet the criteria for the rule of recognition ... Mary Rowlandson s Demise Of The Settlers By Mary Rowlandson Thesis Statement: Mary Rowlandson persuaded the settlers that the Indians were savages by talking about the brutality they showed during the pillage, the cruelty towards the settlers when walking to the camp, and the inhumanness of slaughtering children and babies. After reading the piece by Mary Rowlandson, one can see why the settlers were persuaded that the Indians were savage and barbaric. One may think this because of the many mentionings of how they shot children and neglected people making them seem like animals. She also speaks about how the Indians destroyed and burned their village. The Indians killed people inhumanely and took many prisoners which they later neglected. This was expressed by explaining how a man met his demise, He begged of them his life, promising them money (as they told me) but they would not hearken to him but knocked him in the head, and stripped him naked, and split open his bowels. All of these statements of what happened may now persuade someone to think that the Indians were savage and brutal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is shown through the quote, There remained nothing to me but one poor wounded babe, and it seemed at present worse than death. This was not the first time he had put his hands on her, even though this was the first time it was this severe. I asked her what she desired to do knowing that my previous attempts at trying to help her were unsuccessful. I could not figure for the life of me why she would continue to go back to him. Theda Bara, Mortica Addams Throughout modern history there have been certain characters that personify the very essence of Goth, for instance Theda Bara [1885 1995], Mortica Addams in the 1960s TV series The Addams Family, Italian heiress Marchesa Luisa Casati [1881 1957], to more recent iconic Goths like Helena Bonham Carter and maverick dresser Daphne McGuinness, which has helped inspire individuals and the movement, to create their own persona and sense of the gothic style. The Role Of A Social Worker The role of a social worker involves firstly obtaining a professional qualification at degree level set out by the Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC), who sets educational standards and regulates for social worker training. The social worker is an intricate part of society which supports and works with vulnerable individuals, families, children and the wider community in order to protect these individuals from harm, neglect and abuse. Assessment is core to social workers practice. As a social worker, professional practice entails supporting and evaluating assessments of need and risk continually, Walker and Beckett (2003). Social workers help individuals, families and communities to make informed choices and understand their own resourcefulness in order to bring about positive change to their lives. However, this can involve negotiating both complex and challenging situations. In some cases the social worker is required to intervene where children are at risk of harm from their parent or caregiver in a crisis child protection situation, the social worker would be required to present facts to the courts in order to obtain a child protection order, (Section 47 of the Children s Act 1989). As critics have shown, Pynchon blends factual history with fiction and manages, as David Seed writes in The Fictional Labyrinths of Thomas Pynchon, to juxtapose(s) historical references with reminders of the novel s status as artefact so that the reader s sense of history and of fiction are brought into maximum confrontation (128). Oedipa, similarly, seeks to act as a dark machine in the center of the planetarium, to bring the estate into pulsing stelliferous Meaning (64) (Mangel 90: 1971). The comparison couldn t be more obvious; Oedipa as machine, sorting clues, gaining information, discovering patterns and order and, ultimately, a Meaning. This metaphoric parallel becomes weak, however, when we realize that as Oedipa probes deeper into the issues, other revelations...seemed to come crowding in exponentially, as if the more she collected the more would come to her, (64). Oedipa becomes unable to accurately mimic Maxwell s Demon; she simply cannot sort through all of the clues, nor can she place the truthful ones on one side and the false ones on the other. This inability stems not only from the copious amount of information she receives but the ultimately unknowable (and, as we shall see, distorted) nature of such clues; Oedipa can never truly know if a clue is true or false. Although the Magna Carta was not initially successful, the document was reissued and later became the founding document for the development of justice and law in England. I believe this document was based and made for the people. With the unsuccessful foreign policies and heavy taxation demands this helped to serve as a symbol of freedom from oppression. For example, it stated we will not make justices, constables, sheriffs, or bailiffs save of such as know the law of the kingdom and mean to observe it well. Another example is no free man shall be arrested or imprisoned or disseized [dispossessed] or outlawed or exiled or in any way victimized, neither will we attack him or send anyone to attack him, except by the lawful judgment of his peers or by the law of the land.. The Tobacco Advertising Ban Some of the arguments which support the placing of the tobacco advertising ban in India are: В· Some might feel that people s freedom of choice is being affected by this ban imposed by the government but it could also be argued the state should be able to intervene in a situation where its subordinates health is at risk, just like a father looks after his underage baby who is not aware of what is good or harmful for him. The country s government would be doing what is best for its citizens even if they disagree with the decision as it is being carried for their greater good. В· Countries like Belgium and France declared that banning tobacco was not unconstitutional as the right to freedom of trade right was not being affected and at the same time the good health of its nationals was being persued. This same argument can be applied to the people of India and its tobacco firms as they are still allowed to offer their products in shops and other establishments. The advertising ban would not hinder their right to trade their products with the community. (Morris, P., 2011). While the rhythm sets the beat, the melody is the main creator of the characteristics. The melody sets the tone, mood, and the story behind the song. Many songs feature complex melodies in order to tell its story, but the melody is quite simple in Oya (Primitive Fire) . The melody is played by many different percussion instruments, and begins in the second section of the song. At first listen, the song sounds more like different layers of rhythmic patterns, but the combination of these patterns creates a distinct melody. Unlike in common western music, the melody is being created through the use of layers and counterpoint rather than a solo instrument. This is very common in the ancient African music that Olatunji learned. The melody is played in a pentomic scale, but because a lot of Nigerian drum music is improvisation, it is difficult to identify the specific major or minor scale. The harmony is a harder concept to grasp in Olatunji s musical works because of the style of Nigerian drum music. Nigerian drum music is commonly layers of instruments put together. Because each instrument has its own leading role, it is hard to hear which instrument is specifically harmonizing with the other instruments. In Oya (Primitive Fire) however, the harmony is a bit more prominent; the harmony is played by the drums in section two. In this section there are two sets of drums being played. ... Paul s farm grows and sells organic produce such as cucumbers, strawberries, okra, kale, and tomatoes. He sells grass fed lamb from the sheep has raises on his farm and he also has chickens. To complete my hours, I went on two trips to the farm. Our first task was to pick okra and I instantly realized why farmers are known to have tough hands. As a half hour into picking okra I had two large blisters on both my thumbs. After picking the okra we weeded the tomato garden. This is where I began to understand just how hard farming is, since weeding in the hot Texas is tiring. Once we were done weeding, Paul served us lunch of a fruit smoothie and kale salad. Once we got our lunch we all sat on his porch and discussed how Paul started farming and his views on industrialized food. Paul began farming because of his ex wife, which I think made him regret farming as he talked about if he knew how hard farming was he would not have started his own farm business. We based the current study on this notion in order to demonstrate that perceived powerlessness induces self dehumanization. The world is changing rapidly. Fear of the unknownis seen throughout time, but as humans progress we are finding that things we once were afraid of we are less frightening than they once were. Monsters can evoke fear in their targeted victims rather than physically harm their victims. For instance, every year a new horror film is released with the next scary beast, but why do we call something a monstereven if we know it is not real? Even certain people and creatures are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The more we begin to understand a monstrosity, the less we fear the monster itself, however, we fear the actions of the creature itself. Perhaps it is this fear that draws us closer to the unknown and the monsters thrive upon this fear we have. Asma discusses how this fear allows for individuals to play out scenarios in their minds; we then use the events to ultimately ask ourselves, what will I do in a situation like that (Asma)? Dating back to the early days of Christ in a biblical era, we see monsters have always been on the rise. Stephen Asma s chapter on Biblical Monsters in On Monsters shows how godly monsters were on the rise in the Medieval eras. Whether it was gods testing of one s faith, or individuals justifications as to why monsters were on earth, we can see the rise through this Medieval period as gods uses of monsters varies. In Asma s subsection over The Apocalypse, he discusses numerous interactions between good and evil monsters where they are disguised almost as that of a symbolic gesture. For instance, Asma explains how God sometimes will use his monstrous capabilities to cause harm to an individual to test ones faith. We see this in particular when the devil convinces God to test Job this way (Asma 64).Throughout this period in time, we see the classic biblical beasts such as the Behemoth and Leviathan at work. • 54. Comparing The Time Period Of Joseph Hansberry s The Sun As you begin to compare the time period in which A Raisin in the Sun was written, the 1950s, and now, you can find many similarities and differences regarding racial equality in the Chicagoland, even more specifically the south side. The Younger family, deriving from the African American descent, in Lorraine Hansberry s play, has trouble finding happiness when they are surrounded by successful white people, while they are stuck living in a two bedroom apartment and struggle to make ends meet. In the 1950s, it was much harder for African Americans to find jobs where they could make a substantial living to provide for their families, but in today s society the opportunities for the black racehave improved immensely, although a problem with their pay grade still persists. On the other hand, the two time periods are similar in the respect that the environment on the Southside of Chicago today is very similar to what it was like almost 60 years ago. Additionally, just like in the play, police force continues to be an issue, whether that be because they favor a certain race, or police brutality; shooting people with the wrong intentions. More problems that exist today include, gang violence, protests, and segregated schools in the poorer black communities. While the Chicagoland continues to struggle with problems regarding racial equality, they have made many improvements such as the development of organizations to keep children off of the streets and out of trouble as well as ... Quality is one of most important factors for order qualifiers because it provided reliability for customers to use them. However, the low price strategy was the order winner during the early stage of development of Galanz. To win orders, Galanz adopted a low price strategy. Low product prices which can be afforded by domestic market triggered more demand. With this increased demand, Galanz achieved greater economies of scale, which helped to lower costs and prices further. In addition, it also attracted foreign manufacturers to transfer their production facilities to Galanz. With the cheap price of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This contrasts with traditional Western operating hours of 40/week and allowed them to increase production scale and reduce production costs relative to many of their competitors. Finally they pursued vertical integration of the supply chain to reduce costs and improve quality, leading to 90% of Galanz s microwave parts being produced by Galanz itself. Each of these operational strategies support the competitive cost leadership strategy by exploiting economies of scale to generate large scale production and achieve low cost efficiency. 5.What are the differences between OEM/ODM versus OBM in terms of production, design, marketing, distribution, and customer service? Original equipment manufacturers produce a necessary component of another company s product, often relying on economies of scale to drive down production costs. OEM s typically don t provide customer support, instead passing on those responsibilities to their client whom bought the original product. Original design equipment manufacturers on the other hand, produce a product that is eventually rebranded once purchased by another company and can be thought of as outsourcing . The main difference between the two is that OEM s produce a product by their own specifications, while ODM s produce products by another company s specifications. ODM s also aren t in charge of final distribution, while OEM s are. Another difference is that unlike OEM s, ODM s also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
