The three main causes of the Boxer Rebellion were anti-foreign sentiment in China, poor economic conditions caused by foreign influence, and support from the declining Qing dynasty. After suffering losses to Western powers, China was forced to grant concessions and sign unequal treaties, making the population angry at foreigners who disrupted the economy and Chinese way of life. Additionally, the Qing dynasty backed the Boxers as a way to reassert Chinese dominance during a time of weakness for the imperial government. Together these factors led to widespread attacks on foreigners and Chinese Christians by the Boxer rebels starting in 1900.

This document discusses women's roles during times of war throughout history and how Virginia Woolf addressed this topic in her work Three Guineas. Traditionally, women have been separated from the front lines of war and seen as fulfilling domestic roles like motherhood and homemaking instead of combat. However, some women have taken on non-traditional roles in conflicts by nursing soldiers, spying, or disguising themselves as men to fight. Woolf's Three Guineas examined how society tells women they are not made for war but rather household tasks, and how women sacrifice for wars just as men do by offering up family members who fight.

Crafting a literary essay requires balancing analytical skills, creativity, and an understanding of literature. The writer must select examples that illustrate their points while showcasing nuanced understanding of the works. This demands knowledge of genres, periods, and styles, as well as an eye for details like language, symbolism, and character development. The essay must also convey these insights coherently to engage readers of varying familiarity with the examples. Moreover, the analysis must go beyond surface observations to explore underlying themes, motifs, and contexts shaping the narrative. Drawing connections, finding hidden meanings, and contributing to ongoing dialogue requires avoiding merely summarizing texts in favor of insightful commentary. In conclusion, successfully writing about literary essay examples is a formidable task

The document discusses the challenges of writing an essay about the film "The Truman Show." It notes that the film explores complex themes of reality, perception, and ethics that require a thorough understanding of the plot, characters, and messages. To analyze the psychological and philosophical aspects, one must carefully examine key scenes, motives, and directorial choices, as well as consider the media's role in shaping reality. The essay also needs to discuss the film's symbolic elements and allegories around societal norms and surveillance. Balancing exploration of these ideas with a clear writing style and incorporating diverse critical perspectives requires nuanced argumentation and synthesis. While the task is daunting, an effective essay presents a nuanced analysis beyond just summarizing the plot
In The Time Of The Butterflies Essay.pdfAmy Williams
Writing an essay on the novel "In The Time Of The Butterflies" presents several challenges, including unraveling the intricate plotlines and character developments, providing accurate historical context for the Dominican Republic under Trujillo's dictatorship, and crafting a nuanced thesis that captures the essence of the novel's underlying themes and symbolism. Despite these difficulties, exploring the themes of courage, resistance, and sacrifice in the book can be immensely gratifying by fostering a deeper appreciation of the narrative's complexities. For those feeling daunted by the task, seeking assistance from professional writing services is a viable option.
Writing an essay on euthanasia requires navigating complex ethical, legal, and medical issues. It involves understanding the historical, cultural, and medical aspects of deliberately ending a life to relieve suffering. Crafting a balanced perspective that respects diverse views on topics like the right to die versus the sanctity of life is challenging. The essay must also address how views have evolved legally in different countries and present accurate information on medical facets like palliative care and terminal illness definitions. Strong writing skills and comprehensive research are needed to offer a well-reasoned, informed perspective on this contentious issue.
Writing an effective adversity essay presents several challenges. It requires introspection to discuss personal struggles while maintaining reader engagement. Simply recounting hardships without reflecting on lessons learned risks a superficial narrative. Additionally, adversity is a common theme requiring a unique perspective to avoid clichés. Properly structuring the narrative chronology and thematic exploration from adversity to growth is crucial to avoid losing impact or confusing the reader. While emotionally and intellectually demanding, crafting a thoughtful, authentic adversity essay can be deeply rewarding when navigating these challenges.

2. Dr Faustus as a Tragedy
Q.1. Discuss Dr Faustus as a tragedy.
Tragedy Definition
Aristotle defines a tragedy as a representation of an action which is important, complete and limited
in length. It is enacted not recited and by arousing pity and fear, it gives an outlet to emotions of
this type.
However, for the Elizabethans, more specifically for Marlowe and Shakespeare, tragedy is not a
restrictive view of human excellence or weakness as the Greeks are often inclined to present but an
affirmative view of human aspirations whose pursuit brings a glory to the definition of a man.
Struggle, conflict, suffering and failure may be the inescapable attendants but the human spirit is
not stifled in its pursuits by what attends to them. The ability to withstand ... Show more content on

Divinity adieu:
These metaphysics of magicians,
And necromantic books are heavenly:
The Strength of theTragedy
The play is a human tragedy for not only is Faustus tragically constituted in his boundless ambitions
but, at the same time, the play questions the effectiveness of the cultural aspirations that shape his
ambitions. Consequently, the play provides a complex interaction between the human dimensions
of the dramatic character and the ambiguities and ambivalences of the cultural situation the
character is placed in.
Yet while the play seems to offer a very basic Christian message that one should avoid temptation
and sin, and repent if one cannot avoid temptation and sin its conclusion can be interpreted as
straying from orthodox Christianity in order to conform to the structure of tragedy.
In a traditional tragic play, as pioneered by the Greeks and imitated by William Shakespeare, a hero
is brought low by an error or series of errors and realizes his or her mistake only when it is too late.
In Christianity, though, as long as a person is alive, there is always the possibility of repentance so
if a tragic hero realizes his or her mistake, he or she may still be saved even at the last moment. But
though Faustus, in the final, wrenching scene, comes to his senses and begs for a chance to repent,
it is too

3. The Treaty Of Cession And Indigenous People Of Alaska Essay
In the mid to late 1800 s brought about the Treaty of Cession referred to indigenous people of
Alaska as uncivilized tribes. Such designation in legislation and other agreements caused Alaska
Natives to be subject to the same regulations and policies as American Indians in the United States
(Benson, 2015). This was also followed up the 1884 First Organic Act, disputing Alaskan Natives
any claims for the land they occupied, and the Major Crimes Act of 1885 that would not allow
natives to process any criminal acts. This prompted the start of the Alaska Native Brotherhood
(ANB), this organization united all the different tribes/clans of Southeast Alaska to bond together to
press the US government for equality for all Native Alaskans (Benson, 2015). For several years, the
Tlingitpeople fought politically against the US government for control and rights to the land they
inhabited for centuries. Though the Tlingits won small advantages in the battle for ownership, such
as the 1935 congressional ruling that allowed both the Tlingits and the Hiada Indians the right to
sue the Federal Government for a land dispute. It wasn t until 1971, when President Nixon signed in
action the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act, becoming the largest land claims settlement in
United StatesHistory. According to the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act,
Public Law 92 203, approved December 18, 1971 (85 Stat. 688), and repeatedly amended,
authorized Alaska Natives to select and receive title to

4. Why Did Ashoka Build An Imperial Empire
India could not maintain an imperial government and instead went with regional kingdoms.
Together Kautalya ad Chandragupta built a bureaucratic administration. Chandragupta later left his
thrown to become a monk. His son then took over the thrown but the high point of the empire was
throughout the reign of his grandson Ashoka. Ashoka established a capital and ruled through a
tightly organized bureaucracy. He was unique however in his communication of policies. They
were written in natural stone all around the empire. Asoka s Empire depended on large corps of
officials to administer policies and a very strong army. The Guptas did something that not many

You will find there are a lot of similarities between all the empires/kingdoms. In Persia they
invested a lot of resources into the construction of roads and highways. They did this to enable
communications and military mobility. As trading grew different regions began to specialize what
they traded. Certain products were expected of each area. In China the first emperor built roads to
aid communication and the movement of armies. Han Wudis actions while in the throne rapidly
consumed the empires surplus wealth. India s Magadha conquered neighboring states and gained
control of overseas trade between India and Burma. By 260 B.C.E Mauryan had control of former
Kalinga trade routes. In Greece Spartans used iron bars for money. Their colonies provided
merchants with not only fertile land but access to copper, zinc, tin and iron ores of Italy. Caravan
trade transported luxury goods because they couldn t carry heavier goods. Finally in Rome, they
founded a large regional state in Italy that gave them access to industry. Commercial wealth enabled
rulers to maintain powerful states and a strong military. They annexed Carthaginian possessions in
Africa and Iberia and used them to fund imperial expansion. Julius Cesar spent tons of money on

Verification
Verification is a procedure where the user scans a formerly enrolled finger, then the system will
perform one to one examination and comparison of the enrollment information against the freshly
scanned fingerprint. If the system decides that the freshly scanned finger matches the enrollement
information, then access will be allowed otherwise the access will be denied. Verification is
appropriate for a fingerprint based logon implementation system where the user enters their
username, and later the system prompts for a formerly enrolled finger (instead of a password).
Identification
Identification is almost same as verification, but is where the freshly scanned fingerprint is
compared with a whole database of enrollment information for various fingerprints.
Identification uses to figures out which enrolment information entry match the newly scanned
fingerprint. Besides this, identification can also reveal that newly scanned fingerprint is missing
from the database.
Compare with verification, identification permits for more adaptable authentication situations.
Identification permits you to implement a logon system where the user scans any of their enrolled
fingers for a single user logon. Identification can likewise be utilized where the system has no
knowledge of which operator is utilizing the system. You could think of it being the capacity to
replace both the username and the password

6. The Worst Death Trap, Killing Fourteen Italian Immigrants
On March 13, 1900, a tenement building in New York City caught fire, killing fourteen Italian
immigrants. The poorly constructed frame building housed three stories of tenement quarters,
with ten apartments per floor. The rooms were five by ten feet, separated only by flimsy half
inch thick boards. With just one exit through the entrance of the building, and that only by way
of a 42 inch wide stairway, their only escape was destroyed, leaving eleven families of caged
victims beyond help. People became so desperate that they jumped from upper balconies as the
firemen on the scene struggled to control the flames. The top floor proved to be the deadliest, with
a victim in nearly all ten rooms. After the arrest of a suspect and an... Show more content on

Connected to these changes were rapidly declining sanitary conditions in tenement housing and
rising prices. Immigrants came to America with visions of streets paved in gold and a chance to
rise through hard work. Americans who had lived longer in the country and who harbored rabid
anti immigrant sentiments greeted them with derision and abuse. They saw immigrants as
competition in an already dwindling job market, and bearers of the dreaded Catholicism, socialism,
communism, and other foreign evils. Social Darwinism, in vogue at the time, only compounded
the problems of the poor. Darwin s work in animal dominance was translated into social beliefs that
benefitted successful businessmen and capitalist bullies. Social Darwinism claimed that the
wealthy were dominant because they were superior, and the poor were so because they were
inherently flawed. The effect of this theory was that no help was offered to the poor because they
deserved none, and there was no call to level the playing field because the rich had triumphed
through natural selection. With more and more people pouring into the major industrialized cities,
new arrivals were forced (often tricked) into cheap and dirty tenement housing in the more
dangerous areas of town, in order to afford bare subsistence in a society already glutted with
humanity and twisted notions about nationality. Tenement fire stories permeated newspaper reports

7. Social Themes In Cry, The Beloved Country By Alan Paton
Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton In the novel, Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton, it
follows the narratives of Stephen Kumalo and James Jarvis as they struggle to keep their families
together and deal with the loss of their sons. During the story, Stephen Kumalo shows the readers
his country through his eyes as he travels to Johannesburgto save his sister, Gertrude. As he finds
Gertrude, he comes to know that his son, Absalom, has been caught up in criminal activities during
his tenure in Johannesburg. So, Kumalo tracks down his son to find out that he killed James Jarvis
s son, Arthur Jarvis. This shows the change that moving to an urbanized area can make on a person.
A man that was once kind, humble, and living on the farm with his familyturned into an anxious
and scared man in a big city. In the novel, Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton, the motif of
contrasting images found in the rural versus the urban landscape is depicted through the
difference in social class, lack of care for the human life, and the destruction of families. The
difference in social class is a glaring problem in the novel, Cry, the Beloved... Show more content

Jenny was bored with her life and her marriage. She wanted to spice up her life and her time in
the bedroom. For the longest time she had been wondering why her husband only wanted to
have sex one time a month, and then it was only in one position; missionary. There was nothing
new to their love making, it had always been the same. But after twenty years of marriage, she d
enough, and wanted something new. She went to a web page she had heard some co workers
talking about and looked around. Her eyes were wide with wonder why ll she read stories of
sexual adventure. She could feel her body getting hotter as she read more and more stories of
how girls allowed males to use their bodies. Not just one man, but several. It was called a
gangbang, and she felt her pussy clench as she wondered what it would feel like. Pulling her
panties down she pushed a finger into her wet hole as she read the story of a woman who had
allowed five guys to do her. The woman had a dick in all holes of her body more than one time,
Jenny knew that she wanted to do this. The problem was she didn t know if she really wanted to
do it, sure it was a nice fantasy. But she really was a one woman man, and that was still her
husband, even if he was boring. She wondered what her husband Tony would say if he knew she

10. Romantic Comedy Genre Analysis
Genre in film began as a sort of commercial tool which showed audiences recognizable film content
in order to attract customers (Campbell and Swenson). As the film industry grew, this content began
to be more specialized, allowing the audience to know exactly what to expect from the film they
were seeing. For example, films within the same genre share the same myths, iconography, and
conventions. This means they have similarities in aspects such as plot, characters, themes, moods,
ways of doing things particular to that genre, and repeated visual and oral elements such as images
and sounds. Often genre films are influenced by the social culture of the time in which they are
produced, and the content in the filmtend to propose a solution to the current problems within
society. These resolutions are often portrayed by a main protagonists who is presented with a
conflict; the film then concludes with the character reaching a solution to the problem that is not
only logical, but moral as well. Within the romantic comedygenre specifically, the storyline usually
follows a couple rather than a protagonist. The romantic comedy, or rom com, genre has often been
ruled a purely escapist and conservative genre, accused of unquestioningly presenting unrealistic
romantic fantasies for passive audiences (MacDowell). From its earliest days, romantic comedy
films have mostly focused on finding romance and the idea that loveis the key to a fulfilled and
delighted life. However, this

Virgin s music, retail, and vision business was brought together to form the Virgin Groupand 35%

The organization culture at Virgin was also at risk in this new arrangement and he seized the

12. Emotional or Behavioral Disorders
Most youth and adolescents with emotional or behavioral disorders (EBD) are noticed by the
people around them. It s much easier to identify disordered behaviors than it is to define and
classify their types and causes. Children with EBD experience a significant number of academic,
behavioral, and interpersonal challenges that can adversely affect not only themselves, but
teachers, peers, parents, and others who are involved with the child is some capacity (Gresham,
Hunter, Corwin, Fischer, 2013). Although it is easy to recognize aggressive or withdrawn
behaviors exhibited by students with EBD, it is difficult to identify the types and causes of their
problems, especially from an observation only perspective. The causes for these problems... Show

Students who exhibit misbehaviors when they enter school may become better or worse relying on
how they are handled in the classroom. A student s temperamentcan interact with the behaviors of
teachers in contributing to EBD and corresponding problems. There is a danger in classrooms that a
student with behavioral problems will become trapped in a spiral of negative interactions, in which
they become increasingly irritating to and irritated by teachers (Hallahan, Kauffman, Paige, 2009).
Teachers must consider their academic instruction, expectations, and approaches to behavior
management when considering how they might be contributing to a student s problematic behavior.
Careful classroom management by teachers can lower the risk of EBD associated with difficult
temperament. The fourth question of this section is what are the primary implications of biological
causes of EBD for teachers? The primary implications of biological causes of EBD for teachers are
genetics, parental neglect or abuse, malnutrition, and neurological damage. Genetic predisposition,
neglect, malnutrition, and brain injury are all more likely to be major contributors to disruptive
behavior when they are connected with inconsistent behavior management at school. Biological and
social risk factors together offer the best explanations of the causes of antisocial

Holidays have always been known to affect our consumer culture for many years, but how it all

say that the subject is too broad to precisely identify how holidays, especially Christmas, directly
affect our market, I have found that people s values, expectations and rituals related to holidays

been more ingenious in thinking up unexpected and clever examples; but it turned out that the

continuity or of causality. (Oppenheimer, Robert)
He summed up his scientific career by saying The real goal of my research has always been the

15. Similarities Between Dracula And Modern Day Society
Are there still connections between Bram Stokers famous novel Dracula and modern day society?
In Dracula, Stoker expands on many themes that indeed exist today. Not only does he touch on the
most obvious theme, sex. He expands on gender division and good versus evil. Some say since
times have changed the themes I introduced have changed as well, leaving connections between
then and now irrelevant. However, I feel that although times have changed they still have roots
from the time of the novel to now. In this essay I will expand on the themes of this novel while
connecting them to modern day society, the critical texts I have chosen and will mention later on in
the essay are a good representation of the commonalities between the chill, dark Victorian days in
which the era that Draculawas written in and modern day. Why does Bram Stoker and many
authors alike make vampires out to be voluptuous and sexy? Is it because it brings light to our
darkest desires? Not in the sense that we desire to feed on another humans blood. But in more of
a dark and sinful kind of way. In society back then and now, sex is still kind of weird to talk and be
open about. Although, sex is more accepted nowadays it is still something you usually do not
discuss. So I believe what drew a large crowd in for Draculawas the fact that it went against the
norms of society. For example, the Jonathan Harker describes the encounter with the three sisters as
ecstasy (Stoker 42). He said that they had

17. Analysis Of Broken Blossoms And The Birth Of A Nation
D.W. Griffith was the first American director to be as well known as the films he directed, and he
was among the very first to insist that filmmaking was an art form (Lewis 53). This statement is
very true. However, the inherent discriminating content in some of his movies also made him one
of the hardest to appreciate. One of the most famous examples was The Birth of a Nation(1915),
which was in favor of the Ku Klux Klan. After a few more controversial movies, he finally tried to
redeem his reputation with Broken Blossoms (1919). Broken Blossoms is Griffith s attempt at an
apology in the portrayal of minorities and the idea of miscegenation within The Birth of a Nation in
the midst of a troubling society heading towards the anti miscegenation law.
The Birth of a Nation is divided into two parts: The Civil War and the Reconstruction. It follows
the story of two families, one from the North and the other from the South. Both go through the
hardships of war and elections. Some of the most controversial ideologies in the movie include: the
portrayal of the Ku Klux Klan as the savior with just minds and honorable motives and the
portrayal of black people as degenerates that the whites need saving from. Broken Blossoms shows
a feminine side of the Oriental man. Chinese immigrant, Cheng Huan, moves to Britain in hopes of
spreading his hometown ideology of peace and harmony. He is then exposed to the harsh reality of

Put simply it removes the responsibility of executing actual code or managing infrastructure by
moving that role into the domain of the cloud provider. It s only serverless in the sense that the
development team no longer needs to worry about computing resources, containers, virtual

creation is abstracted from the team with the exception of development.
This model delivers a host of significant benefits to development teams, particularly in the realms
of IT costs and the types of event driven applications that we see emerging today. However, even
as dramatic as the cost savings are predicted to be, we believe the de coupling of application
delivery from infrastructure management will prove to be the most significant advantage, changing
the nature of software development forever.
Basically, the more an organization can abstract infrastructure management, thus hiding its
complexity from developers, the better that development team can decompose its applications into

dramatically improving the organization s velocity. No longer do application developers have to

Introduction to Industrial Design
Our modern lives are full of manufactured products. Nearly everything that surrounds us in our day
to day lives is born of intense industrial processes, yet rarely do we think of the systems that
support our lifestyles. Finding a single action in a day that does not somehow depend on fossil fuels
is nearly impossible. Everything we use, eat, or come in contact with has either been shipped or

Never before has the sustenance of a culture imposed detrimental effects on such a worldwide
scale as our own (Chiras, 2001). Our daily negligence and blind support of industrial systems of
design is destroying the natural world that supports us.
There are several problems with industrial design and processes. Primarily, industrial design is not
case specific. It cares not for bioregional differences, but tends to value strength. Take for example
clothing detergents. Water in different areas has differing degrees of mineral concentrations. Water
with lower concentrations of minerals, as may be found in the northwestern United States, requires
less detergent than water in the Southwest to clean clothing. However, detergent has a universal
dosage and strength despite these regional differences (McDonough 2002, p. 29). Excess detergent
can contaminate waterways and alter aquatic ecosystems. Another example is lawn fertilization.
Many people over fertilize their lawns in order to improve the color, which can harm aquatic life
when runoff occurs. Many of these people also throw away their clippings after mowing, effectively
removing nutrients from their lawns. Now the fertilization is required again. These homeowners are
now increasing their dependence on industrial systems while hurting natural systems, instead of
utilizing natural systems, which would decrease their need for industrial

Its texture makes it the perfect substitute since it provides the same type of crunch, which makes

comes from evaporated seawater or water from salt lakes. In most cases, there is little

packs were released in Yellowstone, but with one issue; the wolves refused to exit through the
gate because they had associated it with humans, forcing the park rangers to cut a hole in the
side of the enclosure for them to escape (Sanders par. 11). Once the wolves were released two of
the packs left the park and set up their territory leaving only one group initially setting up inside
the park. On May 3, 1995 female wolf number nine gave birth to eight puppies, the first wolves to
be born in the park in nearly 70 years. The mother and pups were recaptured and taken back to
the acclimation pen, until the pups were weaned (Sanders par. 15). The reason for this recapture
was because at this time, this wolf and her eight pups counted for almost 50% of the park s wolf
population. Since this time there have been no other human interventions preferring to let nature
take its course on the population. In 1996 1997 a second group of wolves was captured and
brought to Yellowstone for introduction via soft release with two more acclimation pens being

29. Mind Map Analysis
I found this activity very interesting because it was more creative than some of our other
discussion board assignments. The mind map expanded significantly just from one idea, which
shows the strength of the word Terrorism and the problems that have occurred because of it. It
was interesting to see a collective train of thought amongst many people. I noticed that a lot of
people mentioned the countless shootings that have been reported recently in the news. While
there were many shootings before this school year, I thought of Parkland while looking at the
mind map. One of my classmates graduated from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and is
friends with many of the older siblings of the students that died in the shooting. His mother also
works at the school, and while she survived without any injuries, it must be terrifying knowing that
she was there. This was unfortunately the first time I had a connection to a school shooting I
could not imagine the stress and fear that my peer must have endured. I also saw a bubble with
KKK written inside of it. This stood out to me because I go to school in Charlottesville, which is

A bubble that stood out to me was Middle East. While many people may think of the Middle
East when the word terrorism is in mind, it puts a negative connotation on the entire region. This
goes for other places that have had shootings and traumatic events. No one will ever hear the
words Columbine, Parkland or Charlottesville without thinking about violence and crime. Going
back to the events in Charlottesville, the riots made it slightly difficult to go back to school. I
had already completed one year of school and had an overall positive opinion of the city. The
current reputation is racist and violent; while I don t agree with this, it has made me question

Human culture has had pornography around ten thousands of years in art, writing, and other
methods. However, in this modern day and age, it is unquestionable easily accessed via the internet
as technology has gotten better some countries are open about pornography while others ban it
outright or only ban some pornography. In the United States only one type of pornography is
banned and considered criminal currently and that is child pornography for logical viewpoint
children can neither show nor give their consent. However, this is about pornography as a whole

Children may shape their sexual preference for both likes and dislikes if they can comprehend it.
However, parents or guardians should dictate what their children are exposed to computers and
televisions have blockers and so do cell phones and tablets which are a bit more difficult, but
they not fully safe and can be circumvented in many ways. The most common is website names
being misleading or the same or similar or close to the same as another website just a different
ending notion .com .net .org et.al. Consequently, due to times changing sex education is not
really taught in schools anymore and, it is hard to say how many parents still get involved with
their child s sex education by having the sex talk or talk about pornography with their children
or sexting. Sexting is a crime in many states if teens are involved as it falls under child
pornography, but the way the law is written some states could push for teens that commit the
sexting crime to be put on the juvenile sex offender list which is rather harsh punishment for
participating in a foolish fad. Today television shows are evolving to be more inclusive both
sexually and by nature to get the viewers because it keeps people s attention from adult shows
and children s shows are coming around slowly Steven Universe on cartoon network is a great
example of an inclusive children s show. Technology is also fueled by the pornographic industry to

Epistemology of Conspiracy Theories: Section 1
TSCADS: Above the Conspiracy Theory Label
There exists a hierarchy of knowing in societies, with elites who know more than the common
people. Some argue that social cohesion and order depends on the maintenance of noble lies. This
prompts the question of whether democratic forms of government can coexist with secrecy, or
whether there is a fundamental confliction. The secrecy demanded by the government seems to
have led to the prospering of conspiracy theories and state crimes against democracy (SCAD). This
essay investigates the definitions of a conspiracy theory compared to a SCAD through legal scholars

Child abuse is a complex phenomenon with multiple causes and occurs in a range of situations

35. Pros And Cons Of Nature Nurture
The nature nurture debate has been around for decades. It is one of the oldest and most popular
topics in the history of psychology asking what makes people who they become and how they
behave and develop the way they do. What makes the debate more interesting is that now scientists
are asking if personality traits and even sexual orientation can be determined by what is in already
there from conception. Bodies are built up of chromosomes which contain genetic information.
Many of these are inherited from parents and relatives. The nature side of the debate states the way
people are is predominantly from inherited geneticsand other biological factors not so much the
environmental factors. The genes humans have in their bodies play a huge role to many aspects
of who they are and who they become. For example, hair colour, eye colour and height are all
predetermined by genes. Unchangeable. This is natures way. The argument stands to decide
whether most attributes do stem from nature, genes, or if they can be affected by the environment
and the way people are nurtured as they have grown. The nurture side of the argument believes
although humans do have the genes and traits with which they are born, most personality traits
are being made up of environmental factors. For example, being loved and cared for as children,
if parents or carers were positive role models and if those people were taught in ways which
provided them with discipline and respect for others. Where nature

larger eyes of the Neanderthals were an adaptation to the long, dark nights of Europe which would
have required large visual processing areas in the brain. In addition, the Neanderthals also had
massive bodies which would have required more brain cells to control their physique, thus they had

Recent studies suggests that more than 60 cubic miles of ash were blasted into the atmosphere
and covered a vast area of eastern Europe, North Africa and western Asia. Vast plumes of ash
would have blotted out the sun for months, or possibly years, and caused temperatures to plummet.
Sulphur dioxide, fluoride and chloride emissions would have generated intense falls of acid rain.
Explanation: Since the Neanderthals did not have up to date primitive technologies like their
counterparts, they were more susceptible to the negative impacts of the eruption. For example, the
sudden drops in temperatures following the eruption would have led many Neanderthals to freeze
to death, and during those dreary years, the blotting of the sun would have led to a dramatic
decrease in plant life, which would have led to a scarcity of prey, such as deer, and in turn affect
the Neanderthal population as there would have been an insufficiency of food for them due to their

37. La Chanson De Roland, And The Song Of Roland
La Chanson de Roland, or The Song of Roland, is the oldest surviving French poem. It is also the
oldest and greatest of the chansons de geste, medieval epic poems written in French. In old French,
geste means a deed or action, often of heroic proportions. A hundred or so of these epic poems
survive, dating from around the year 1100 to the late fourteenth century. In their time, they were
exceedingly popular.
Although we know neither the identity of The Song of Roland s composer nor the date of its
composition, most scholars estimate that the poem was written between 1098 1100. This dating
puts the poem s origin at the time of the First Crusade, and indeed the poem has been
characterized by some scholars as propaganda to encourage Christians to take up arms against
Islam. Propaganda here is a loose term, including a broad range of artistic creations that can intend
to push listeners to action or simply paint certain policies or events from a specific perspective.
What can be said for certain is that The Song of Roland seems animated by the spirit of the
Crusades, a time when the medieval Catholic Church, at the height of its power, sought to expand
Christendom into the Holy Land.
The poem describes events happening several centuries earlier, during the reign of the mighty
Christian warrior king Charlemagne. The historical context of the poem therefore straddles several
centuries, and to properly understand the poem we must bear in mind its rich historical

The diversity issues explored in the film are most discernable in Jurors #3, #5, and #10. Juror #3
constantly explodes with bottled up anger, blinding him to the facts. Juror #5 shares his
upbringing in a slum, identifying with the boy s struggle growing up in an underprivileged area in
an abusive family. Juror # 10 is an unreasonable bigot whose prejudice ultimately demonstrates his
lack of credibility. Even Juror #4, who was one of the last to concede, told Juror #10, now sit down
and don t open your mouth again (Lumet, 1975). Eventually the biases among the group were
overcome, as they made no contribution to determining innocence or guilt. The jury did achieve
their goal to reach a unanimous decision, but it was not the original goal of each juror. There
were clearly mixed feelings regarding the conclusion of their deliberation, including self
awareness, reflection, and relief. A swift and undiscussed decision concerning the fate of the boy s
life was an inappropriate approach for the jury. In the end, all of the jurors were satisfied with the
verdict of not guilty, but for very different reasons.

41. The Movie Franchise Star Wars
The movie franchise star wars has been around for over fifty years. It s a classic drama series
about dark and light forces trying to get the best of one another. The Jedi and the Sith are both
factions which use the essences of the universe in order to obtain their special abilities that they use
to their advantage. The force is split between the Jediwho represent the light force, and the Sithwho
represent the dark force. So which of the two, light or dark, is the better as seen in the star wars
storylines. The Jedi seem to have the upper hand and here are some reasons why. The Jedi and
Sith both use Lightsabers(Short swords made with laser energy) when fighting enemies or dueling
with one another. They give them both huge advantages in battle, because they can use the force
to detect where things will be before they happen. When they are attacked with a blaster or
lightsaber, the laser it is deflected off of the blade. This also makes for some really spectacular
duels between the two.
So which of the two has the better lightsaber? Lightsabers are formed from special crystals which
the Jedi or Sith have to meditate on for weeks on end until it can form a blade. The Sith made the
their sabers with synthetic crystals that they had to put into a furnace whereas the Jedi used a
special natural growing crystal found on Dantooine, Ilum, or the Adega System. When the blades
are finally constructed, they have a certain color which corresponds to their personality. The Sith

42. Congenital Disorders With Intellectual Disability
Chapter Five
5. Discussion
Congenital disorders with intellectual disability (ID) constitute a particularly significant medical
problem because of the high prevalence and life long care that patients will need. The extreme
genetic heterogeneity of ID is a major problem for pre and postnatal diagnosis. In some cases,
however, early detection of a mutation may be important to prevent the manifestation of the
handicap (Avbelj et al. 2007). Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) is one of the most frequent causes of
preventable ID, which can be averted by administering thyroid hormone in early postnatal life. This
is achieved by newborn screening detection.
Congenital hypothyroidism fulfills most of the criteria for disease screening as set out by Wilson
and Jungner (Wilson and Jungner 1968), in fact CH is four to five times more common than
Phenylketonuria for which newborn screening was initially developed (Chiesa, Rivolta, Targovnik,
Gruneiro Papendieck 2010).
Detection of CH by neonatal screening has been a major achievement because early diagnosis and
treatment result in normal development in nearly all cases. An additional benefit of neonatal
screening has been the elucidation of the incidence of CH as well as the prevalence of its various
causes.
The incidence rate of CH is approximately 1 of 3000/4000 new births worldwide (Calaciura,
Miscio, Coco, Leonardi, Cisternino, Regalbuto, Bozzali, Maiorana, Ranieri, Carta, Buscema,

Reflective Final Taking my first general psychology has been very interesting. I am ending the
semester with a lot of newly acquired knowledge about how and why our brain works the way it
does. I have chosen three out of many of the things I have learned and reflected on them deeply in
this paper. First, I will be talking about Social Categorization, which has changed my views on how
I generally perceive people. Secondly, I will discuss Stereotypevulnerability, which has brought me
to the realisation that stereotypes are more than just labels and can seriously change the way people
behave towards not only one another but with themselves. Lastly, I will discuss The Fundamental
Attribution Error, which will always cause me to think twice or even three times about how I
perceive people s actions. These topics have all been significantly mindaltering for me in ways I
will explain further in this paper. In order to understand why we perceive people the way we do,
we must think back to how we learned as infants. As infants we built schemas, which are concepts
and mental models to categorize things. This is explained by Piaget s theory of cognitive
development. When meeting new and unfamiliar experiences or people we tend to relate them to
existing memories or schemes we have already built. As we grow up and meet new people we
categorize them in hopes to understand and group together similarities and this is called Social
Categorization. It is believed that this

Exploratory Research Paper on Campus Carry
In many states across the United States, laws have been passed regarding carrying guns on
campus. In states where they do allow students to conceal a firearm they must meet certain
criteria. For example only students over the age of 21 are able to legally carry a firearm on campus
with a handgun license. As mentioned in the beginning many any states have passed this law, but
across the United States there are still a lot of states who debate on whether they should allow their
own students to conceal a firearm on campus. Back in the 1900 s many students had access to
rifles because it was part of a sport. Across the United States hunting was a hobby for many
college students. The idea of student s being allowed to carry firearms on campus often carries
different emotions for people across the United States but it s important to understand the different
arguments related to the topic because we are part of the problem. Citizens take the time to preach
what is wrong with this country but in reality what are you really doing in regards to keeping our
citizens safe, is anyone safe in this country, are our own college students safe when stepping foot on
campus?
Across the United States many people who are in favor of students carrying firearms on campus
seem to be in favor simply due to the fact that when unarmed the human body becomes a victim. We

49. Reflection On Calcium
I have learned from the computer analysis project that my intake in calcium is low, and my
intake in sodium is high. My DRI reports showed me that I am receiving only 31% of the
recommended daily value for calcium intake. An appropriate amount of calcium is 1300 mg, but I
consumed only 409 mg. My DRI reports also showed me that I consumed above the recommended
range for sodium. A deficiency of calcium has serious effects just as a toxicity of sodium does.
After reviewing my reports, I learned that I need to change my diet and be more cautious about the
amounts of calcium and sodium that I consume.
In nutrition class, I learned that calcium is a mineral that an individual needs in order to
maintain healthy bones. If an individual does not consume enough calcium than he or she is
will be at risk of osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a lack of calcium in bones which is a loss of total
bone mass, not just minerals. Bones become weak and very brittle. This leads to fractures of the
weight bearing bones, such as those in the hips and spines. To prevent osteoporosis, I need to
consume the daily recommended value of calcium. Calcium is primarily found in dairy products
such as cheese and milk. Throughout September 30th to October 2nd, I did not consume enough
dairy products. Out of the 1300mg recommended value for calcium, I only consumed 409 mg. I ate

50. Hyperthyroidism Occurs When The Thyroid Gland
Hyperthyroid Disease Hyperthyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland, a butterfly shape in front of
the neck, overproduces thyroid hormone. The thyroid gland is abundant with blood vessels and it
secretes thyroid hormone (Kumar 22). Thyroid hormone influences many different internal body
functions such as, metabolism, growth, development, turning food into energy, and increases body
temperature. Thyroidhormone is very important for brain development and normal growth during
infancy; furthermore, a newborn s blood drawn from their heel and sent for screening determines of
level of thyroid stimulating hormone (Samuels 2). However, when the thyroid gland over produces
thyroid hormonea lot of things in the body development can go wrong. The over produced thyroid
hormone forces the body to expedite. It is important to know that one has hyperthyroidism, because
it can result in heart, bone problems, and thyroid storm; which heart rate, blood pressure, and the
increase in body temperature can be fatal. Hyperthyroidism is more common in females than males
and the older a person is the more likely they will have it. Around 27 millions of American have
thyroid disease, however only 14 million receive treatment. Also, stress is the main aspect that
affects the thyroid gland in either over producing or under producing thyroid hormone (Kumar 22).
