Voodoo Season Summary
Intro The practice of Voodoo has been around for many centuries. The word itself means the great
spirit. It originally started with the African slaves who combined their West African traditions and
beliefs with Catholicism. To many Voodoo has been seen as cult and something that begets fear. This
has been a common misunderstanding and misconception and that is part of the reason why I have
chosen this topic. If one were to look up the definition of Voodoo it would be defined as an African
religious cult practiced in the Caribbean and later in the Unites States, which involves animism,
sorcery, religious rituals and spirit possession. Although some of the above is true people perceive that
definition in a negative form. The portrayal of Voodoo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A good person forms their own positive relationship with Voodoo, like an evil person forms their
negative relationship. Throughout the story we see that Marie channels her abilities in a good way
because she is a selfless person seeking to help everyone she can. Selfless humans put others needs
before their own needs and they are willing to lookout for others as opposed to looking out for
themselves. However, Allez who is a selfish person uses his abilities in an evil way for his own self
gain. Selfish humans can be envious and resentful and are not willing to cooperate with anyone unless
it is to reach their own goals. Source 2 Summary: In the film, The Princess and the Frog, by director
Ron Clements we meet our protagonist Tiana, who is a hardworking waitress who aspires to own her
own restaurant. A prince named Naveen is turned into a frog by an evil Voodoo witch doctor. When
Tiana kisses Prince Naveen to turn him human she too is transformed into a frog. They are both set on
a journey to find the good Voodoo priestess with the help of friends to become humans again. Tiana
and Prince Naveen fall in love and once they are changed into humans they are married and live

The Monkey s Paw Suspense Essay
Title In many stories there is a sense of tension and excitement. This is suspense which makes the
reader curious of the outcome of the story or future events. Suspense can be found when the author
uses repeating phrases, uses vivid words to describe dramatic actions, or explains a character s anxiety
and fear. Suspense is created by authors with a technique called, characterizing anxiety and fear. When
authors use this technique they describe what a character is doing to portray fear. This advances in the
reader s curiosity. For instance, in the The Monkey s Paw by W.W. Jacobs, The White family is given
a magical monkey s paw that grants three wishes to Mr. White. His first wish results in their son s
death. Mrs. White forced Mr. White to bring their son back to life with the magical monkey s paw; Mr.
White knew this couldn t be good and wanted to wish his son away so [he] was on his hands and
knees groping ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, in the short story The Tell Tale Heart the narrator tries to prove he is not crazy by telling
a story. He is troubled by the eye of an old man he loves. He just couldn t stand the eye so he decided
to carefully murder the man. When the police came to the house the narrator played it cool and the
officers believed him. But, when he sat down he started to hear a heartbeat that got louder! Louder!
Louder! (Poe 94) A key reason for this quote was to show that the heartbeat was starting to get too
loud to bear. This quote makes the reader curious of what the narrator will do when he can t bear the
sound any longer. Certainly, that allows suspense to be created.
Ultimately, suspense techniques can be found in many works. Repeating phrases, vivid and dramatic
descriptions, and characterizing anxiety and fear are three of the many techniques and author uses to
create suspense. Suspense can take something otherwise very bland and make it interesting and

Experience of the Attawapiskat Cree to Ojibwa in relation...
The Attawaspiskat Cree and Ojibwa are a first nations group living in parts of Canada, mainly
northern Ontario. The main languages spoken by these first nation groups are Mushkegowuk Cree and
Ojibway. I will compare and contrast the experience of the Attawapiskat Cree to Ojibwa in relation to
the Canadian Government. This will include analyzing the treaties introduced by the government
towards the Cree and the Ojibwa: in particular, treaty 9 will be discussed. In addition, to these treaties
the government has divided the first nation community into two different groups: status Indians and
non status Indians. Within these two groups further division has been accomplished by the allocation
of lands know as reserves to status Indians and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Example of social, political and exploitative patterns would include the ways of accommodation, such

Indian life, there have been changes in the traditional land tenure policies held within these societies
for centuries. The government has divided the Ojibwa and the Cree into two different categories:
status Indians and non status Indians. Status Indians are those individuals who according to the Indian
Act appear on the governments list of registered Indians. Status Indians are solely dependent on
governmental aid and live on lands turned into reserves by the government; they are also exempted
from any provincial or federal programs such as income tax and property tax. Non status Indians are
those who have lost their Indian status by governmental enfranchisement. These people cannot live on
reserves; land setup by the government for status Indians, but they can independently own land and
must pay taxes. The reserves are created by the Indian Act as, the minister may, when he considers it
desirable constitute new bands and when a new band has been established from an existing band or

Ancient Calendars
Accepted systems for the division of time into days, months, and years, calendars reflect a human
effort to measure and order extended periods of the future. Scholars divide calendars into three general
categories lunar, solar, and lunisolar depending upon whether their temporal divisions are principally
based upon the movements of the moon or the sun or on a compromise between both. Regarding
Western forms of chronology, in which solar reckoning of time predominates, historians have studied
calendar reform, which encapsulates many scientific advancements and cosmological debates of the
Renaissance and Enlightenment. In their studies of other parts of the world, where ... Show more

Building upon the work of the astronomer Christoph Clavius, whose calculations had produced a
closer approximation of the tropical year, the Gregorian Reform removed centurial leap years, except
for those divisible by 400. While the reform was rapidly accepted throughout Catholic Europe,
Protestant countries were resistant. Over time, new scientific discoveries concerning the mechanics of
the universe were brought to light, causing astronomers, regardless of religious persuasion, to
acknowledge the errors of the old system. Notably, as the work of Sir Isaac Newton in the seventeenth
century effectively annihilated the last remnants of the ancient and flawed Ptolemaic cosmological
model and presented a new vision of the universe, resistance began to erode. Eventually the German
states fell into line by 1699, in large part due to the lobbying efforts of Newton s contemporary,
Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. Still, the change was not accepted until 1752 in England, where, tradition
has it, the loss of 11 days in the calendar sparked protest the so called British time riots throughout the

Affirmative Action Definition
Affirmative action was first created in 1961 and was signed by President John F. Kennedy, with intent
to improve the lives of those who tend to suffer from discrimination. Court rulings have upheld
affirmative action policies, we have seen examples of this in court but also in employment
opportunities and school admission processes.
Affirmative action policies have continued to be supported in court rulings. The final rulings of
Regents of the University of California v. Bakke (1978) are significant as they allowed race to be one
of the several factors allowed in college admission policies. Allan Bakke, a thirty five year old white
man, applied twice to the University of California Medical School in Davis. Although his

Comparison of Moses and Odysseus
The stories of heroes have been at the axis of nearly all cultures throughout history. Each different
type of religion or culture has their own heroes or legends, each one of them having their differences
to go along with the beliefs at hand. On the other hand, each and every hero also has their similarities,
which therefore makes them the hero. The setting, events, and characters in each and every story may
change, but the characteristics of the hero remain basically the same. Each person is usually made into
a hero in a somewhat similar fashion. For example, many heroes begin as imperfect characters, and
then begin some sort of quest which leads to them becoming a leader of what they are doing, and then
the character goes through a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Odysseus s voyage had to be completed before saving his people, while Moses exodus and his people
s salvation were simultaneous. In either case, the journey is vital to the hero in order for him to
undergo a personal transformation into the legendary hero they became.
Moses fought a Pharaoh, the desert, his own people, and himself during his long journey to the
Promised Land. Odysseus also had a long journey home and while on that journey battled Poseidon,
the sea, his men, and himself. Not only are the stories of The Odyssey and Exodus the similar, but the
heroes, Odysseus and Moses, share many of the same attributes and behaviors. Both, despite having
murderous pasts, were chosen by their God or gods to be the savior of their people. Each had a
specific limitation that directly interfered with the completion of their mission. And since they were
helped by God or the Greek gods along the way, Moses and Odysseus ultimately had faith that they
would be successful, regardless of the obstacles ahead. Their similarities exist on a personal level as
well. Both heroes had to make great sacrifices for the good of the whole. They each underwent a
personal transformation as a result of the trials they faced. And each learned a lesson that they passed
on as a message for their people. The hero s journey is also determined by how each story originated.

Toni Morrison s Recitatif and Tennessee Williams Cat on a Hot Tin Roof are prime examples of

Elodea Lab Report
The primary productivity of Elodea in response to different wavelengths of light.
The term production initially means the creation or making of something, for instance organic matter.
However productivity is the rate of growth or biomass increase in plants (or animals). This is increase
of biomass or growth in plants, is generally caused by photosynthesis (6 CO2 + 6 H2O Light Energy
C6 H12 O6 + 6 O2), which converts light energy into chemical energy therefore creating new plant
tissues and new compounds and structures are synthesised and cells division. In order for
photosynthesis to occur, a plant requires sunlight, carbon dioxide and nutrients. Gross productivity is

Therefore the net productivity is the gain of energy or biomass per area per unit time that remains after
the deduction due to respiration (C6 H12 O6 + 6 O2 Energy + 6 CO2 + 6 H2O). Net primary
productivity and Gross primary productivity are for the measurement of energy of autotrophs,
therefore it is only used for plants and works with this equation: NPP = GPP R, where R is the
respiratory loss (Davis Andrew, and Garrett Naggle). My intentions for this experiment are to measure
the primary productivity in the aquatic ecosystem of a pond and see how it changes with different
wavelengths (colours) of light. Since oxygen is one of the most easily dignified elements of
photosynthesis and respiration, a good way to measure primary productivity is to measure the
dissolved oxygen. It would be easier to work using this method because respiration is occurring
simultaneously with photosynthesis, making it complicated to gauge the primary productivity
(LabBench). I will place water containing microscopic autotrophs and Elodea in a closed system and
measure the O2 generation or depletion per unit time with different light exposures in

The American Revolution And The Causes Of The American...
The causes of the American Revolution don t just start at the acts that were passed, they go way back.
Starting in 1763, the end of the French and Indian war. Wars are costly, so after this war Britain was in
great debt, so as always they put that on the colonists, raising their taxes. Next is the Treaty of Paris
1763 when British gained land because of their win in the French and Indian War. From this gain of
land, settlers began to move west making the Natives very unhappy. To save Britain from another all
out war, they decided to pass the Proclamation of 1763 which stated that settlers were permitted to
settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. This made the Natives happy, but us colonists felt
differently. Britain should have fought for our land and our rights, instead they just gave it up to the
Natives. Shows how much they care about us, right! These acts brought on by the British government
are absolutely outrageous. First, they bring on the Quartering Acts, passed on March twenty fourth,
1765, which say that colonists must house a soldiers if they come knocking on their door. Ridiculous!
Colonists have to waste the little money they have on food and supplies for the soldiers so the British
government can save money, they are violating colonists rights. Then in 1765 the Stamp Act was
passed making colonists buy a special tax on a kinds of products or activities; which was totally unfair
considering, the colonists had no say in the Parliament. To get across how

limitations. It will then offer more space as analogue takes up about a third of the spectrum which can
also be used to increase signal reach in some areas and also make room for new services too. As well
as this, it will give viewers a wider variety of channels to watch and reduce costs for broadcasters that
would have had to pay more to transmit services in both formats. The downsides of the switching off
analogue will mostly affect homes in the UK as they will be the people who will have to start paying
for different means of watching TV. As well as affecting domestic settings, they will also be affecting
non domestic settings such as hospital s and TV rental businesses who rely on analogue TV. Having to
make the switch from analogue to digital will be difficult in hospitals as they will not only need new
TV sets, but will also have to pay for new Freeview TV set top boxes for their patients. It also means
that TV rental businesses will not be able to provide analogue TV s anymore as they will have no use,
cutting back their income. As well as this, some areas may even need new roof top aerials installed,
totalling up to a large sum of money to make the switch. As Digital televisions such as Freeview offer
a handful of more channels, but require a one off payment. There is also satellite which is currently the
most popular type of TV broadcasting, with services such as Sky

Gender, Age, And Ethnicity
The Relationship of Gender, Age, and Ethnicity in the Dying Process
Taylor Livingston
Denver School of Nursing
Abstract
The relationships of gender, age, and ethnicity can all impact how a person will react and cope with
the death of a loved one. Gender is impactful in the way that women are expected to much more
emotional and dramatic in their response to death, where men expected to remain stoic and unaffected
by a death as to not show weakness to those they are to protect. In children and adolescents its
important to acknowledge age but also assess developmental level. Adults need to remain honest with
children and be mindful of their actions because that s how they will learn to grieve positive or
negative. Ethnicity and culture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gender
Gender can hold a strong influence in how an individual survives the death of a loved one. The
general differences between males and females and the management of the grief process carries
through from one culture to another. Most adults manage grief in the same way with the exception of
parents losing a child. When parents loose a child they often experience the same emotions but they
may not always be showing it in the same way (Christiansen 2014). Girls employed significantly more
strategies to cope with stress compared to boys. (Kauser Munir 2004). One study that was referenced
in the book Understanding Dying, Death, and Bereavement, women had greater tendencies to self
mutilation and crying, while men would tend to direct aggression and anger away from themselves
(Leming Dickinson 2016). During a traditional African funeral, the women would cry and moan,
while the men would dance and sing, men are not to cry in front of women because they would appear
weak before the very group they are supposed to protect (Leming Dickinson 2016). This way of
thinking has the greatest influence on the way men grieve across many cultures and societies. One can
wonder if that way of thinking hadn t been implemented then perhaps men and women would grieve
more similarly. Another study mentioned in the book Understanding Dying,

A Trip On A Family Vacation At California, Disneyland, The...
I ve been on a family vacation for ten days that included a road trip to California, Disneyland, the
beach, and a family reunion camping trip. It was a pretty ambitious trip and has provided an
interesting reflection on budgeting budgeting time, budgeting money, and budgeting food. I read an
article recently that said the biggest reason people are late is that they are too optimistic. I laughed out
loud when I read that. I so often optimistically try to fit in one more thing before I leave and then end
up leaving late or I get too optimistic about there not being any traffic and then I am shocked when I
hit traffic and arrive late. Truly budgeting time in a way that makes me not late means budgeting for
contingencies, allowing room for things to go wrong, and knowing everything will not go as planned,
but still being able to arrive on time. I have to put extra time into my time budget, or I run out of time
too soon.
I think the same is true for food and money too. I have to plan for contingencies, know everything will
not go as planned, and add in extra room when I can. I took money expert Dave Ramsey s Financial
Peace University class just before I left on vacation and so made an effort to budget my vacation
money the way he recommends, using envelopes for each category. I separated our travel food budget
into 10 envelopes, one for each day of the trip, and put cash into each envelope to use on food each
day. What a challenge that has been! There have been meals where

Why Is Gettysburg Important
It is widely regarded that the Battle of Gettysburg is the most significant battle in the American Civil
War. What made the Battle of Gettysburg so significant? I believe the main reason why it s considered
to be the most significant battle is the effects and the changes it brought to the American Civil War.
The reasons I believe this is because of how this battle literally changed the momentum of the war
swaying it to the Union s favor and eventually allowing the Union to defeat the Confederates, thus
winning the American Civil War.
In order to answer this question, we must first look at the context, background information, the war
itself and some information on what was happening around the time of the battle and the build up to
the battle. It was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

for battle as the Confederate s commander looked through his field glasses only to see a Union cavalry

Descriptive Essay On A Roller Coaster
Woah! That looks fun! Can we do that? I requested, articulating with amazement by what I had just
witnessed.
There are many other rides that we could go and ride, and you want to go on that horror? No way. My
brother conversed as if he had horrific encounters with the ride we were looking at.
But it looks like the most entertaining ride here. Come on, you are chickening out. Big fat loser.
You know I figure you are just going to keep debating on whether we should go or not so let us just
go. You have no idea what you re getting into by sitting in those seats up there. Sometimes you make
bad mistakes. Those mistakes can haunt you. Well, one of my mistakes was getting on a roller coaster.
When I was about 8 my family and I went to an amusement park. Just like every other kid I was
overwhelmed to hear that we were going to an amusement park. Just picturing all of the exhilarating
rides, marvelous fun, and humorous laughter made me feel rapturous and ecstatic. When we went to
the amusement park we went on all of the rides that we presumed we would enjoy. We went on the
bumper cars, go karts, and water rides but there was one ride in particular that stood out to me. That
one ride was a roller coaster. Roller coasters are the types of rides that are very deceiving. They look
very joyous and cool, but once you get on one you are filled with anxiety and regret. All of the
pessimistic thoughts flow through your brain and you know that

Symbolic Illustration of the Power of Relationships in Susan Glaspell s Trifles
A friend can be a remarkable thing. Unfortunately, many lack the powerful bonds that all humans need
to survive and lead healthy, happy lives. In Susan Glaspell s play Trifles, Mrs. Wright is starved of the
human interaction and relationships she so desperately needs. Consequently, she is never rescued from
her loneliness, is brought to the point where she cannot handle any more of life s saddening struggles,
and kills her husband in his sleep. Through powerful and often ironic symbolism, such as Mrs. Wright
s kitchen, the names of the characters, and the bird, Susan Glaspell clearly displays the power of
human relationships and how truly devastating a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another symbol of Mrs. Wright s lack of human interaction is her preserves in the kitchen. Mrs. Peters
explains how Mrs. Wright worried [that] if the fire d go out [. . .] her jars would break (Glaspell 1174)
and feels sympathy towards her. The men, on the other hand, do not understand how Mrs. Wright can
worry over such small trifles (Glaspell 1174) as she sits in jail for possibly murdering her husband. As
strange as it is, it is because the preserves, along with any other work she does in her house, is all that
she has. It is all that Mrs. Wright can proudly claim as hers. Hence, the broken jars of preserves the
women find in her kitchen represent Mrs. Wright s shattered dreams and expectations of a fulfilling
life with her husband. Like the jars, Mrs. Wright bursts from the unbearable pressures of her life, and
so, Glaspell clearly displays the power and importance of human relationships. Therefore, through
Mrs. Wright s kitchen, Glaspell symbolically implies how vital it is to reach out and befriend the
lonely and disheartened.
Another symbol Glaspell uses to reiterate the importance of human contact and support is the names
of the characters in the work. First, the fact that Glaspell never uses the characters first names (except
for Mrs. Wright s in one scene) signifies that the problem regarding the lack of human relationships is
not only in the rural areas of America, but across the world in every

Yi Qu Dr. Anne Heintzman 2014/10/30 Word Count: 980 Competitive Analysis Introduction My

high quality preschool education. Since 1979, the one child policy has been in effect for 30 years in
China. The first generation of single child are now growing into childbearing age. The one child
policy in China is altering family roles and child rearing practices, raising concerns about the possible
harmful effects of too much attention and pampering. It has strengthened the emphasis on education

There is no history of a dual development of one type of full day program to provide care for children
of working mothers and another type of half day program to provide education for children of non
employed mothers. Education replaces physical care as the primary emphasis in this program. Class
size increases with age, ranging from 20 to 40 children. Each group typically has two teachers and a
nurse. Preschool: Serve children upper age 5. A part of the elementary school. It is a typically half day
program serving children the year prior to the 1st grade. Comparable to U.S. public kindergartens,
these classes usually place greater emphasis upon academics and use teaching methods similar to
those of the Chinese elementary classrooms. In both of those three kind of program, there is a
common problem. Those children rarely work independently or in self selected group tasks. On the
contrary, the point is on following teacher s guidance, instead of self invention. All the children will
do the same thing at the same time. For example, in a typical art class, teacher demonstrates how to
fold and twist a paper butterfly. Then she check every child doing the same step before proceed to the
next step. Painting class usually include children to copy an object of the teacher. Even if the use of
teaching toys, all children are using the same toy at the same time.

Henry VIII and His Six Wives Essay examples
Henry VIII and His Six Wives Henry VIII married his brother s widow, Catherine of Aragon, in a

children as well as early infancy deaths to all of their children, except Mary, Henry VIII began to
worry that he would not have a son to heir the thrown. He began to petition the court for an
annulment, so that we could marry his mistress Ann of Boleyn. At first Catherine, was kept in the dark

enemies in the court began to plot against her, using the fact that the King still did not have a male heir

ladies in waiting. Anne and her brother, George, as well as many other people were brought up on
charges of treason and adultery (on Anne s part). They were sentenced to death. Shortly after Anne s
death the marriage was dissolved and declared invalid. The curious question here was how could Anne

Jane Seymour and Henry VIII was betrothed. In 1537 King Henry VIII finally got his long sought

would be the only of Henry s six wives that was buried with him. The split from Rome had made
England vulnerable and Thomas Cromwell had suggested his next wife to be of a political match,

Class Structure In Brave New World
The futuristic dystopian novel Brave New World by Aldous Huxley is about a government and how
they control the citizens using conditioning, class structure, and the use of the drug soma.
Conditioning plays a big role because it helps teach children what their role in society is. It constantly
teaches the children what is right and wrong whether they are awake or sleeping. Class structure also
plays a role in how they control the citizens and how they live their life. Some classes are more
oppressed than others, like the Epsilons and Deltas who are used for manual labor because they have
little to no intelligence. To add, the governments use soma to control the citizens because it increases
serotonin in the brain and it helps escape from reality. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soma is a hallucinogen that whenever someone takes it, they instantly become happy and more
carefree. The characters use this drug as an escape from the world. They don t want to feel pain or
sadness, they constantly want to feel the need of being joyful and happy. The government uses soma
as a way to gain social stability. Stability, said the Controller, stability. No civilization without
stability. No social stability without individual stability (Huxley, 42). Stability is a major role that is
needed in this kind of society. Without stability, the society will be in shambles. However, so many
people in the community loves soma, because many people constantly become distressed with topics
they aren t used to. For example, when two characters named Lenina and Bernard go to a Reservation,
Lenina says, But it s terrible, Lenina whispered. It s awful. We ought not to have come here. She felt
in her pocket for her soma only to discover that, by some unprecedented oversight, she had left the
bottle (Huxley, 111). Soma has become addicted throughout the community, and people can t go one
moment out of their norm. Lenina goes on saying, Oh, I wish I had my soma (Huxley, 116). Lenina is
constantly wanted soma whenever she pinpoints something wrong than her norm. This is because she
was conditioned to feel this way. A gramme in time saves nine, said Lenina, producing a bright
treasure of sleep taught wisdom (Huxley, 89). The term sleep taught wisdom is meaning that she
remembers this from hypnopaedia, and with the use of bright treasure , she thinks that the government
is always right. However, the government is controlling the community and Lenina portrays the

A Character Analysis of Katherine Mansfield s Miss Brill...
Katherine Mansfield s Miss Brill is a woman self contained, not pessimistic but settled, content. She is
not a victim of her circumstances, but the satisfied creator of them. You could say she has her ducks

woman who has the ability to enjoy a simple world of her own elaborate creation. Miss Brill is a
single woman, probably in her mid to late fifties. She lives alone in a very small space without even a

Miss Brill engages in shameless people watching. She has taken the practice of keen observation and
elevated it to an art form. Miss Brill ascribes to the notion that since we all coexist on this planet, we
are acting out our lives alongside each other, the entire world is a stage and we are all in it together.
She understands that most people do not feel quite so connected to one another and that her rose
colored glasses approach to life is not universal, but still she carries on, thriving amongst the non
believers, quietly living out her interpretation of days.
Miss Brill enjoys feeling connected not only to the people around her but also to favorite objects in
her life. She croons to her old fur stole Dear little thing! which she lovingly refers to as Little rogue!
(1) They have enjoyed many dressy days together and Miss Brill views the fur stole as her pet. While
conversing with old, stuffed garments may seem strange, she is more or less just talking to herself.
How much more would a puppy understand? Would Miss Brill appear saner if she chatted with a kitty
or perhaps a goldfish? Aside from the smashed in nose, her little stole would look quite realistic curled
up on her duck feather quilt, a furry friend looking up at its owner with fervent eyes, waiting to be
stroked, impatient to be wrapped around the shoulders of its miss, silently nipping its own tail as they
stroll to their favorite destination.

Walgreens Essay
History
[edit] Company history
A typical Walgreens Pharmacy.
The Walgreens chain began in 1901, with a drug store on the corner of Bowen Ave and Cottage Grove,
Chicago, Illinois, United States owned by Galesburg native Charles R. Walgreen, Sr.[6] By 1915,
there were five Walgreen drugstores. He added several improvements to the stores such as soda
fountains and luncheon service. He also began to make his own line of drug products and was then
able to control the quality of the items and sell them at lower prices. By 1916, 19 stores were in
operation, all in Chicago. And in that same year, all the stores were consolidated under Walgreen Co.
The 1920s was a very successful decade for Walgreens. In 1921, the company opened stores ... Show

[edit] Store model
An Uptown Houston Walgreens at a street intersection.
Originally, Walgreens stores were connected to local groceries. In Chicago, which is Walgreens
primary market, they teamed up with either Eagle Food Centers or Dominick s Finer Foods, usually
with a walkthru to the adjoining store and often sharing personnel. This concept was instated to
compete with the popular dual store format used by chief competitor Jewel Osco. Eventually, they
ended the relationship with Eagle and focused primarily on a connection to the Dominick s stores,
which were considered to be of a better quality. PharmX Rexall stepped in and filled the vacated
Walgreen locations joined to Eagle stores.
In its 2009 business model Walgreens locations are always set up as freestanding locations at the
corners of busy, intersecting streets on the prevailing side of the street with the most traffic flow
literally making it a corner drugstore similar to how many independent pharmacies evolved over the
years in the United States. This also usually allows the store to offer additional conveniences such as a

Abstract In this paper data aggregation using multipath routing is proposed. In existing system, under
hybrid scheme, it each sensor nodes generates information by sensing its physical environment and
transmit to sink by multi hop communication. In network aggregation computation intermediate
forwarding nodes can substantially increase the network life time but amount of data contained in
single packet and make the system vulnerability to packet loss. Instead of retransmission it takes the
additional time. Multi path routing multipath multi speed routing protocol is used to improving the
performance of data aggregation due to avoiding these problems.

The House Of Sand And Fog Summary
Riain Flynn 21 September 2014 Amstud periods 2 3 What Happens When Dreams Collide? In The
House of Sand and Fog, by Andre Dubus III, there are an infinite amount of possible outcomes when
dreams collide, but overall not everybody can have his/her dreams fulfilled, unless there is a
compromise to which all parties can agree upon, but only one can get what they came for, and the
characters in the story do not come to this conclusion. This idea is expanded upon throughout the story
of House and Sand and Fog when we get two people, Kathy Nicolo, and Colonel Behrani who have
their dreams intertwine. They both do not ever come to a compromise that can satisfy the both of
them, but instead it leads to nobody achieving their dream. Kathy Nicolo is upset at the fact that she
had lost her home because of unpaid taxes, and tries to reclaim her house from the family who

The author reference to bombs bursting in air is in relation to the hard times in life. Johnson s use of
the word bombs is figuratively. Some examples that Johnson references are far off explosions, which

girl who was absent from school for a week and when she returned, she no longer lived with her

Essay On The Governess In The Turn Of The Screw By Henry...
Henry James was a prominent figure in Victorian Era literature known for his attention to conscious
perception and ambiguous writing. Because of the mystery shrouding his works, people have become
adept at reading between the lines and filling in his plot holes with their own inferred ideas. His book
The Turn of the Screw is one of his most vague and intriguing pieces and has therefore been a subject
of much conflict among critics. Of all possible theories, most boil down to the reliability of the
governess; is she telling the truth, or has she gone insane? Given James background living with a
philosopher father, a psychologist brother and a sister with numerous mental health issues, critics
often choose the latter theory. The governess ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The governess is struggling to ignore her desires and maintain society s standards of a perfect woman
as well as preserve her innocence and reliability as an authority figure. Since she was taught to look
down upon women who deviate from societal expectations, she imagines Jessel in black, pale, and
dreadful with a dishonorable connection to Quint (James 50, 52). The apparition of Miss Jessel forms
from all the unacceptable sexual motives she finds within herself; a way to reprimand her behavior
without villainizing herself . In addition, Jessel s affair with Quint reflects the governess s unconscious
desire for a forbidden relationship with the master of Bly (Rodriguez 2). The ghosts provide her with a
method to play out her fantasies while avoiding the consequences of an illegitimate child and harsh
judgment, issues Jessel and Quint had experienced in their lives. Furthermore, the governess is afraid
of scaring or tainting the innocence of the children with her abnormal behavior which is evident
through her fear of the ghosts corrupting them. By projecting her dangerous, evil qualities on ghosts,
she convinces herself that she will be inherently better at watching the children, gaining their trust and
even saving them (Otten 2). The governess s method of projecting her flaws onto unseen ghosts gives
her a sense of security and

Rearing Strategies
When studying parental techniques one will find one large gray area. Although rearing strategies are
not the solely responsible for altered behavior, psychologists know that the way a child is brought up
has a deep and indelible impact on that child s life. During formative years the brain is exceedingly
sensitive to outside stimulus and alteration can occur at the drop of a hat. The mantle of parenthood is
not to be taken lightly as ineffective methodology can contribute significantly to a child s behavioral
outcome. Children often exhibit signs of having incompetent parents by acting out and misbehaving in
a public setting. Whether it be school, church, or any other common environment, children who have
been raised in a negative manner ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sufficient evidence, including findings reported by the state of Michigan s Department of Education,
supports the idea that parental involvement in a child s education vastly improves academic
achievement (Mokeyane). In a neglectful environment a child spends a majority of their time alone
making it hard for them to undergo learning experiences and engage their brain in such a way that
triggers thinking and progress. The social aspect can make it difficult for the child to formulate
relationships with classmates and teachers (Richards Gustafson). Damaged social skills can negatively
impact nearly every aspect of an adolescent s life as they move to the future making it difficult to
obtain help from teachers, meeting a significant other, and even getting a job. The impact parents have
on their children goes further than face value. Issues such as misbehaving and delinquency can be
caused by impudent parents. If one is not ready to rear a child they not only risk their own mental
health but also leave the success and livelihood of their you hanging in the balance. When it comes to
it, parenthood has everything to do with quality, whether it be strict or lenient parenting styles, raising
children be done with care and love in order to ensure a successful and healthy lifestyle for the

  • 2. Voodoo Season Summary Intro The practice of Voodoo has been around for many centuries. The word itself means the great spirit. It originally started with the African slaves who combined their West African traditions and beliefs with Catholicism. To many Voodoo has been seen as cult and something that begets fear. This has been a common misunderstanding and misconception and that is part of the reason why I have chosen this topic. If one were to look up the definition of Voodoo it would be defined as an African religious cult practiced in the Caribbean and later in the Unites States, which involves animism, sorcery, religious rituals and spirit possession. Although some of the above is true people perceive that definition in a negative form. The portrayal of Voodoo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A good person forms their own positive relationship with Voodoo, like an evil person forms their negative relationship. Throughout the story we see that Marie channels her abilities in a good way because she is a selfless person seeking to help everyone she can. Selfless humans put others needs before their own needs and they are willing to lookout for others as opposed to looking out for themselves. However, Allez who is a selfish person uses his abilities in an evil way for his own self gain. Selfish humans can be envious and resentful and are not willing to cooperate with anyone unless it is to reach their own goals. Source 2 Summary: In the film, The Princess and the Frog, by director Ron Clements we meet our protagonist Tiana, who is a hardworking waitress who aspires to own her own restaurant. A prince named Naveen is turned into a frog by an evil Voodoo witch doctor. When Tiana kisses Prince Naveen to turn him human she too is transformed into a frog. They are both set on a journey to find the good Voodoo priestess with the help of friends to become humans again. • 3. The Monkey s Paw Suspense Essay Title In many stories there is a sense of tension and excitement. This is suspense which makes the reader curious of the outcome of the story or future events. Suspense can be found when the author uses repeating phrases, uses vivid words to describe dramatic actions, or explains a character s anxiety and fear. Suspense is created by authors with a technique called, characterizing anxiety and fear. When authors use this technique they describe what a character is doing to portray fear. This advances in the reader s curiosity. For instance, in the The Monkey s Paw by W.W. Jacobs, The White family is given a magical monkey s paw that grants three wishes to Mr. White. His first wish results in their son s death. Mrs. White forced Mr. White to bring their son back to life with the magical monkey s paw; Mr. White knew this couldn t be good and wanted to wish his son away so [he] was on his hands and knees groping ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, in the short story The Tell Tale Heart the narrator tries to prove he is not crazy by telling a story. He is troubled by the eye of an old man he loves. He just couldn t stand the eye so he decided to carefully murder the man. When the police came to the house the narrator played it cool and the officers believed him. But, when he sat down he started to hear a heartbeat that got louder! Louder! Louder! (Poe 94) A key reason for this quote was to show that the heartbeat was starting to get too loud to bear. This quote makes the reader curious of what the narrator will do when he can t bear the sound any longer. Certainly, that allows suspense to be created. Ultimately, suspense techniques can be found in many works. Repeating phrases, vivid and dramatic descriptions, and characterizing anxiety and fear are three of the many techniques and author uses to create suspense. Suspense can take something otherwise very bland and make it interesting and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Experience of the Attawapiskat Cree to Ojibwa in relation... The Attawaspiskat Cree and Ojibwa are a first nations group living in parts of Canada, mainly northern Ontario. The main languages spoken by these first nation groups are Mushkegowuk Cree and Ojibway. I will compare and contrast the experience of the Attawapiskat Cree to Ojibwa in relation to the Canadian Government. This will include analyzing the treaties introduced by the government towards the Cree and the Ojibwa: in particular, treaty 9 will be discussed. In addition, to these treaties the government has divided the first nation community into two different groups: status Indians and non status Indians. Within these two groups further division has been accomplished by the allocation of lands know as reserves to status Indians and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Example of social, political and exploitative patterns would include the ways of accommodation, such as living in micro or macro bands and occupying a river drainage or a good fishing site; notion of land ownership; and hunting patters, respectively. Since the incursion of Euro Canadians in all aspect of Indian life, there have been changes in the traditional land tenure policies held within these societies for centuries. The government has divided the Ojibwa and the Cree into two different categories: status Indians and non status Indians. Status Indians are those individuals who according to the Indian Act appear on the governments list of registered Indians. Status Indians are solely dependent on governmental aid and live on lands turned into reserves by the government; they are also exempted from any provincial or federal programs such as income tax and property tax. Non status Indians are those who have lost their Indian status by governmental enfranchisement. These people cannot live on reserves; land setup by the government for status Indians, but they can independently own land and must pay taxes. The reserves are created by the Indian Act as, the minister may, when he considers it desirable constitute new bands and when a new band has been established from an existing band or any part thereof, such portion of the reserve lands and funds of the existing band as the minister ... • 5. Ancient Calendar Research Paper Muatasim Shaout Bakomihalis English 3 30 September 2016 Ancient Calendars Accepted systems for the division of time into days, months, and years, calendars reflect a human effort to measure and order extended periods of the future. Scholars divide calendars into three general categories lunar, solar, and lunisolar depending upon whether their temporal divisions are principally based upon the movements of the moon or the sun or on a compromise between both. Regarding Western forms of chronology, in which solar reckoning of time predominates, historians have studied calendar reform, which encapsulates many scientific advancements and cosmological debates of the Renaissance and Enlightenment. In their studies of other parts of the world, where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Building upon the work of the astronomer Christoph Clavius, whose calculations had produced a closer approximation of the tropical year, the Gregorian Reform removed centurial leap years, except for those divisible by 400. While the reform was rapidly accepted throughout Catholic Europe, Protestant countries were resistant. Over time, new scientific discoveries concerning the mechanics of the universe were brought to light, causing astronomers, regardless of religious persuasion, to acknowledge the errors of the old system. Notably, as the work of Sir Isaac Newton in the seventeenth century effectively annihilated the last remnants of the ancient and flawed Ptolemaic cosmological model and presented a new vision of the universe, resistance began to erode. Eventually the German states fell into line by 1699, in large part due to the lobbying efforts of Newton s contemporary, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. Still, the change was not accepted until 1752 in England, where, tradition has it, the loss of 11 days in the calendar sparked protest the so called British time riots throughout the ... • 6. Affirmative Action Definition Affirmative action was first created in 1961 and was signed by President John F. Kennedy, with intent to improve the lives of those who tend to suffer from discrimination. Court rulings have upheld affirmative action policies, we have seen examples of this in court but also in employment opportunities and school admission processes. Affirmative action policies have continued to be supported in court rulings. The final rulings of Regents of the University of California v. Bakke (1978) are significant as they allowed race to be one of the several factors allowed in college admission policies. • 7. Comparison of Moses and Odysseus The stories of heroes have been at the axis of nearly all cultures throughout history. Each different type of religion or culture has their own heroes or legends, each one of them having their differences to go along with the beliefs at hand. On the other hand, each and every hero also has their similarities, which therefore makes them the hero. The setting, events, and characters in each and every story may change, but the characteristics of the hero remain basically the same. Each person is usually made into a hero in a somewhat similar fashion. For example, many heroes begin as imperfect characters, and then begin some sort of quest which leads to them becoming a leader of what they are doing, and then the character goes through a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Odysseus s voyage had to be completed before saving his people, while Moses exodus and his people s salvation were simultaneous. In either case, the journey is vital to the hero in order for him to undergo a personal transformation into the legendary hero they became. Moses fought a Pharaoh, the desert, his own people, and himself during his long journey to the Promised Land. Odysseus also had a long journey home and while on that journey battled Poseidon, the sea, his men, and himself. Not only are the stories of The Odyssey and Exodus the similar, but the heroes, Odysseus and Moses, share many of the same attributes and behaviors. Both, despite having murderous pasts, were chosen by their God or gods to be the savior of their people. Each had a specific limitation that directly interfered with the completion of their mission. And since they were helped by God or the Greek gods along the way, Moses and Odysseus ultimately had faith that they would be successful, regardless of the obstacles ahead. Their similarities exist on a personal level as well. Both heroes had to make great sacrifices for the good of the whole. They each underwent a personal transformation as a result of the trials they faced. And each learned a lesson that they passed on as a message for their people. The hero s journey is also determined by how each story originated. The Hebrews passed down Moses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a universal truth that mothers and daughters, female family members and female peers will have struggles, misunderstandings and complications. Female solidarity is a major theme in many types of literature. Relationships between women are complicated and often emotional. Toni Morrison s Recitatif and Tennessee Williams Cat on a Hot Tin Roof are prime examples of literature that uses female solidarity as an important theme. Both deal with the relationship between mothers and daughters as well as relationship between peer women. The characters of these women are better understood when examining and analyzing these ... She makes derogatory remarks about the children s physical appearance and behavior in front of Sister Woman, Big Momma and the children themselves. Their relationship is made up of contempt, malice and competition and is the opposite of female solidarity. The relationships between the main characters and their mothers play an important component in these works. All three women, Maggie, Roberta and Twyla, do not receive any maternal support. There are different reasons for the lack of support. Twyla s mother is mentally unfit to fill her role as mother while Roberta s mother is physically unfit because of her illness. • 9. Elodea Lab Report The primary productivity of Elodea in response to different wavelengths of light. The term production initially means the creation or making of something, for instance organic matter. However productivity is the rate of growth or biomass increase in plants (or animals). This is increase of biomass or growth in plants, is generally caused by photosynthesis (6 CO2 + 6 H2O Light Energy C6 H12 O6 + 6 O2), which converts light energy into chemical energy therefore creating new plant tissues and new compounds and structures are synthesised and cells division. In order for photosynthesis to occur, a plant requires sunlight, carbon dioxide and nutrients. Gross productivity is the total gain of energy or biomass per unit area per unit time. It is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore the net productivity is the gain of energy or biomass per area per unit time that remains after the deduction due to respiration (C6 H12 O6 + 6 O2 Energy + 6 CO2 + 6 H2O). Net primary productivity and Gross primary productivity are for the measurement of energy of autotrophs, therefore it is only used for plants and works with this equation: NPP = GPP R, where R is the respiratory loss (Davis Andrew, and Garrett Naggle). My intentions for this experiment are to measure the primary productivity in the aquatic ecosystem of a pond and see how it changes with different wavelengths (colours) of light. Since oxygen is one of the most easily dignified elements of photosynthesis and respiration, a good way to measure primary productivity is to measure the dissolved oxygen. It would be easier to work using this method because respiration is occurring simultaneously with photosynthesis, making it complicated to gauge the primary productivity (LabBench). I will place water containing microscopic autotrophs and Elodea in a closed system and measure the O2 generation or depletion per unit time with different light exposures in ... • 11. The American Revolution And The Causes Of The American... The causes of the American Revolution don t just start at the acts that were passed, they go way back. Starting in 1763, the end of the French and Indian war. Wars are costly, so after this war Britain was in great debt, so as always they put that on the colonists, raising their taxes. Next is the Treaty of Paris 1763 when British gained land because of their win in the French and Indian War. From this gain of land, settlers began to move west making the Natives very unhappy. To save Britain from another all out war, they decided to pass the Proclamation of 1763 which stated that settlers were permitted to settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. This made the Natives happy, but us colonists felt differently. Britain should have fought for our land and our rights, instead they just gave it up to the Natives. Shows how much they care about us, right! These acts brought on by the British government are absolutely outrageous. First, they bring on the Quartering Acts, passed on March twenty fourth, 1765, which say that colonists must house a soldiers if they come knocking on their door. Ridiculous! Colonists have to waste the little money they have on food and supplies for the soldiers so the British government can save money, they are violating colonists rights. Then in 1765 the Stamp Act was passed making colonists buy a special tax on a kinds of products or activities; which was totally unfair considering, the colonists had no say in the Parliament. It will then offer more space as analogue takes up about a third of the spectrum which can also be used to increase signal reach in some areas and also make room for new services too. As well as this, it will give viewers a wider variety of channels to watch and reduce costs for broadcasters that would have had to pay more to transmit services in both formats. The downsides of the switching off analogue will mostly affect homes in the UK as they will be the people who will have to start paying for different means of watching TV. As well as affecting domestic settings, they will also be affecting non domestic settings such as hospital s and TV rental businesses who rely on analogue TV. Having to make the switch from analogue to digital will be difficult in hospitals as they will not only need new TV sets, but will also have to pay for new Freeview TV set top boxes for their patients. It also means that TV rental businesses will not be able to provide analogue TV s anymore as they will have no use, cutting back their income. As well as this, some areas may even need new roof top aerials installed, totalling up to a large sum of money to make the switch. Gender, Age, And Ethnicity The Relationship of Gender, Age, and Ethnicity in the Dying Process Taylor Livingston Denver School of Nursing Abstract The relationships of gender, age, and ethnicity can all impact how a person will react and cope with the death of a loved one. Gender is impactful in the way that women are expected to much more emotional and dramatic in their response to death, where men expected to remain stoic and unaffected by a death as to not show weakness to those they are to protect. In children and adolescents its important to acknowledge age but also assess developmental level. The general differences between males and females and the management of the grief process carries through from one culture to another. Most adults manage grief in the same way with the exception of parents losing a child. When parents loose a child they often experience the same emotions but they may not always be showing it in the same way (Christiansen 2014). Girls employed significantly more strategies to cope with stress compared to boys. (Kauser Munir 2004). One study that was referenced in the book Understanding Dying, Death, and Bereavement, women had greater tendencies to self mutilation and crying, while men would tend to direct aggression and anger away from themselves (Leming Dickinson 2016). During a traditional African funeral, the women would cry and moan, while the men would dance and sing, men are not to cry in front of women because they would appear weak before the very group they are supposed to protect (Leming Dickinson 2016). This way of thinking has the greatest influence on the way men grieve across many cultures and societies. I ve been on a family vacation for ten days that included a road trip to California, Disneyland, the beach, and a family reunion camping trip. It was a pretty ambitious trip and has provided an interesting reflection on budgeting budgeting time, budgeting money, and budgeting food. I read an article recently that said the biggest reason people are late is that they are too optimistic. I laughed out loud when I read that. I so often optimistically try to fit in one more thing before I leave and then end up leaving late or I get too optimistic about there not being any traffic and then I am shocked when I hit traffic and arrive late. Truly budgeting time in a way that makes me not late means budgeting for contingencies, allowing room for things to go wrong, and knowing everything will not go as planned, but still being able to arrive on time. I have to put extra time into my time budget, or I run out of time too soon. I think the same is true for food and money too. I have to plan for contingencies, know everything will not go as planned, and add in extra room when I can. I took money expert Dave Ramsey s Financial Peace University class just before I left on vacation and so made an effort to budget my vacation money the way he recommends, using envelopes for each category. The reasons I believe this is because of how this battle literally changed the momentum of the war swaying it to the Union s favor and eventually allowing the Union to defeat the Confederates, thus winning the American Civil War. The men, on the other hand, do not understand how Mrs. Wright can worry over such small trifles (Glaspell 1174) as she sits in jail for possibly murdering her husband. As strange as it is, it is because the preserves, along with any other work she does in her house, is all that she has. It is all that Mrs. Wright can proudly claim as hers. Eventually, they ended the relationship with Eagle and focused primarily on a connection to the Dominick s stores, which were considered to be of a better quality. PharmX Rexall stepped in and filled the vacated Walgreen locations joined to Eagle stores. In its 2009 business model Walgreens locations are always set up as freestanding locations at the corners of busy, intersecting streets on the prevailing side of the street with the most traffic flow literally making it a corner drugstore similar to how many independent pharmacies evolved over the years in the United States. This also usually allows the store to offer additional conveniences such as a drive through pharmacy and 24 hour shopping ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Improving The Performace Of Data Aggregation IMPROVING THE PERFORMACE OF DATAAGGREGATION IN WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORK Kalaivani.M1 and Rohini.R2 1Department of CSE, Vivekanandha College of Engineering for Women, kalaii7691 @gmail.com 2Department of CSE, Vivekanandha College of Engineering for Women, rohinir84 @gmail.com Abstract In this paper data aggregation using multipath routing is proposed. In existing system, under hybrid scheme, it each sensor nodes generates information by sensing its physical environment and transmit to sink by multi hop communication. In network aggregation computation intermediate forwarding nodes can substantially increase the network life time but amount of data contained in single packet and make the system vulnerability to packet loss. Instead of retransmission it takes the additional time. Multi path routing multipath multi speed routing protocol is used to improving the performance of data aggregation due to avoiding these problems. Keywords Data aggregation, Multipath routing, Greedy shortest Path, Frequent connection, Throughput. I. INTRODUCTION Wireless sensor network consist of a large number of sensor node with limited resource of energy, transmission power, network power, network bandwidth, and computation power. Each sensor node is able to perform some processing and sensing task independently. Each sensor node is able to communicate with each others to forward the sensing information. Sensor network can be consist of three subsystem namely sensor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. The House Of Sand And Fog Summary Riain Flynn 21 September 2014 Amstud periods 2 3 What Happens When Dreams Collide? In The House of Sand and Fog, by Andre Dubus III, there are an infinite amount of possible outcomes when dreams collide, but overall not everybody can have his/her dreams fulfilled, unless there is a compromise to which all parties can agree upon, but only one can get what they came for, and the characters in the story do not come to this conclusion. This idea is expanded upon throughout the story of House and Sand and Fog when we get two people, Kathy Nicolo, and Colonel Behrani who have their dreams intertwine. They both do not ever come to a compromise that can satisfy the both of them, but instead it leads to nobody achieving their dream. Kathy Nicolo is upset at the fact that she had lost her home because of unpaid taxes, and tries to reclaim her house from the family who currently has legal possession of the house, which leads to utter chaos instead of compromise. ... When he meets Kathy he falls in love and is willing to help her in any way he can after she explains her current situation. This leads to Lester getting out of control and he breaks into the house, and pulls a gun on Behrani. Behrani then says Moments have passed since Lester V. Burdon pressed to my flesh his loaded weapon, yet still I am feeling it against my skin and it is no effort to imagine the large caliber bullet tearing through my head like a missile, and I want only to kill this man who has broken into our home to do this after we saved the gendeh s pitiful life. • 33. Bombs Bursting In London Analysis The author reference to bombs bursting in air is in relation to the hard times in life. Johnson s use of the word bombs is figuratively. Some examples that Johnson references are far off explosions, which include events that occurred to people outside her circle of family and friends. For instance, the little girl who was absent from school for a week and when she returned, she no longer lived with her mother. Other examples of far off explosions are, the girl who throw up in the bathroom every morning and the friendly custodian who was sudden fired. • 34. Essay On The Governess In The Turn Of The Screw By Henry... Henry James was a prominent figure in Victorian Era literature known for his attention to conscious perception and ambiguous writing. Because of the mystery shrouding his works, people have become adept at reading between the lines and filling in his plot holes with their own inferred ideas. His book The Turn of the Screw is one of his most vague and intriguing pieces and has therefore been a subject of much conflict among critics. Of all possible theories, most boil down to the reliability of the governess; is she telling the truth, or has she gone insane? Given James background living with a philosopher father, a psychologist brother and a sister with numerous mental health issues, critics often choose the latter theory. The governess ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The governess is struggling to ignore her desires and maintain society s standards of a perfect woman as well as preserve her innocence and reliability as an authority figure. Since she was taught to look down upon women who deviate from societal expectations, she imagines Jessel in black, pale, and dreadful with a dishonorable connection to Quint (James 50, 52). The apparition of Miss Jessel forms from all the unacceptable sexual motives she finds within herself; a way to reprimand her behavior without villainizing herself . In addition, Jessel s affair with Quint reflects the governess s unconscious desire for a forbidden relationship with the master of Bly (Rodriguez 2). The ghosts provide her with a method to play out her fantasies while avoiding the consequences of an illegitimate child and harsh judgment, issues Jessel and Quint had experienced in their lives. Furthermore, the governess is afraid of scaring or tainting the innocence of the children with her abnormal behavior which is evident through her fear of the ghosts corrupting them. By projecting her dangerous, evil qualities on ghosts, she convinces herself that she will be inherently better at watching the children, gaining their trust and even saving them (Otten 2). The governess s method of projecting her flaws onto unseen ghosts gives her a sense of security and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Rearing Strategies When studying parental techniques one will find one large gray area. Although rearing strategies are not the solely responsible for altered behavior, psychologists know that the way a child is brought up has a deep and indelible impact on that child s life. During formative years the brain is exceedingly sensitive to outside stimulus and alteration can occur at the drop of a hat. The mantle of parenthood is not to be taken lightly as ineffective methodology can contribute significantly to a child s behavioral outcome. Children often exhibit signs of having incompetent parents by acting out and misbehaving in a public setting. Whether it be school, church, or any other common environment, children who have been raised in a negative manner ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sufficient evidence, including findings reported by the state of Michigan s Department of Education, supports the idea that parental involvement in a child s education vastly improves academic achievement (Mokeyane). In a neglectful environment a child spends a majority of their time alone making it hard for them to undergo learning experiences and engage their brain in such a way that triggers thinking and progress. The social aspect can make it difficult for the child to formulate relationships with classmates and teachers (Richards Gustafson). Damaged social skills can negatively impact nearly every aspect of an adolescent s life as they move to the future making it difficult to obtain help from teachers, meeting a significant other, and even getting a job. The impact parents have on their children goes further than face value. Issues such as misbehaving and delinquency can be caused by impudent parents. If one is not ready to rear a child they not only risk their own mental health but also leave the success and livelihood of their you hanging in the balance. When it comes to it, parenthood has everything to do with quality, whether it be strict or lenient parenting styles, raising children be done with care and love in order to ensure a successful and healthy lifestyle for the ...
