The Scopes Monkey Trial
In the United States, the early 1920s was a time of shifting and conflicting moral values due to
people attempting to see which values would dominate the nation s culture. One conflict was
between science and religion; ever since science began to explain what once was unexplainable, it
clashed with religion. Thus, in 1925, the Scopes Monkey Trial revealed the struggle of America s
culture between the forces of Traditionalism and Modernism. The mixture of religion and science
caused one of the most famous debates in American history to occur because ideas were the main
focus instead of an actual crime. The Scopes Trial opened the doors to the conflict between faith
and science that made it the trial of the century.
Dayton is a small beautiful Southern town in Tennessee with only a few thousand inhabitants.
However, in 1925, Dayton was on the front pages of newspapers all over the United States.
Thousands of Americans were arriving to watch the spectacle that happened in this town. Mencken,
one of the reporters that came to see the trial unfold, stated that the Scopes Trial was an
extraordinary opportunity to put the small town of Dayton on the map (Scopes Trial, Mencken s
Trial Account, July 9, p. 1). Not only that, the trial brought Clarence Darrow, the nation s greatest
defense attorney, and William Jennings Bryan, the nation s greatest political orator and three time
presidential candidate, into the trial. Due to these factors, New York Times called it the most

Age Of Enlightenment DBQ
The Age of Enlightenment, a movement during the 17th and 18th century started from the
Europeans, later moving into American colonies. The point of this movement was for the society to
reform on a new base such as emphasizing reason and individualism over tradition. Enlightenment
thinkers, Montesquieu, Rousseau, Beccaria, Locke, and Voltaire helped launched this project
amongst Europeans. John Locke, for example, criticized absolute monarchy and favored self
government. Voltaire also believed that people should be able to speak their minds without the fear
they may be punished. Through these philosophy influence, this eventually leads to European
rulers ruling with a sense of equality, democratic governance, and abolition. John Locke known as
an Enlightenment thinker believed in the equality between men. A state also of equality, wherein
all the power and jurisdiction is reciprocal, no one having more than another...by an evident and
clear appointment, an undoubted right to dominion and sovereignty (Doc. 2). John Locke stated
this in 1690 with the meaning that everyone is equal no matter what their rank or power may be.

someone else. To renounce liberty is to renounce being a man, to surrender the... Show more content

For a country to have equality, rank or power does not matter and all people have the same rights.
The three branches lead to a more of a democratic governance and more of a self government where
one branch does not have more power than another. Finally, rulers are making adjustments to the
Age of Enlightenment, starting with a patent and later reforming their own characters. The Age of
Enlightenment began a reformation of a society while a new object in mind. This Enlightenment

Ticks Use Several Ways For Locate Hosts
Ticks use several ways to locate hosts. Some quest, i.e. they crawl onto vegetation and wait for
passing hosts which they grab onto using their front legs, then crawl on the host until they find a
suitable site to attach and feed (Walker et al., 2003). The tick s questing behaviour is related to host
kairomones which are residues rubbed off host body onto vegetation (Terassini et al., 2010). Ticks
become akinetic upon encountering residues of kairomones (Carroll, 1998). As Artiodactyla and
Peryssodactyla usually frequent the same trails (Emmons and Feer, 1997), ticks waiting on these
positions have a chance of successfully encountering the host (Carroll, 2003). Arrestment
pheromones present in cast larval skins, tickfaecal droppings and tick body exudates also induce
akinetic (Sonenshine and Roe, 2014). These two pheromones result in clustering of ticks. The
arrestment pheromones are interspecies specific, i.e Ornithodoros moubata arrestment pheromones
induce ceasation of movement in O. tholozani (Sonenshine, 2004). This behaviour is also expressed
between some different genera (Sonenshine and Roe, 2014).
Adult ticks of Amblyomma and Hyalomma are exophilic, i.e. they hunt for a nearby host by
running across the ground (Walker et al., 2003). Argasids and many Ixodes species are endophilic,
i.e. they spent their life time in a host s nest from where they attach to available host. A few species
of ticks have adapted to human dwellings, e.g. Rhipicephalus sanguineus. These feed

Spartans Military And The Spartan Military Vs. Roman Military
Spartans Military (Greece) vs. Rome Military
War. War never changes. Since the dawn of humankind, when our ancestors first discovered the
killing power of rock and bone, blood has been spilled in the name of everything from god to
justice to simple psychotic rage (Howard). When you think about all the armies that have walked
this earth the first two you might think of are the Spartan Warriors and the Roman Legionnaires.
With both empires so vastly iconic they share a lot of ideas such as their military views, but just
because they have the same ideas does not mean they portray them in the same manner. for
example how they train their men, the weapons they would use and their overall battle strategies
/ formations. Training is a vital ordeal in everything you do from sports to a new job that
everyone can do different. This is the case for the Spartans and Romans. Before Spartans are
even born their skill sets are already delegated. The Spartans believed in competition and the
winners were held in high praise. Thus having the strong men marring the strong women and the
fast men marring the fast women in hope of having a son share their physical attribute. After birth
the babies are inspected by the Spartan Elders, if imperfect the babies would be thrown off a cliff
said to be not fit for battle. When the child then reaches the age of seven he is sent to a military
boarding school where he is taught to fight. The Romans did nothing as formidable as the Spartans.

Method Of Assisted Reproduction
The method of assisted reproduction that I chose is artificial insemination, the definition of
artificial insemination is the injection of semen into the vagina or uterus other than by sexual
intercourse. There can be various legal or ethical issues surrounding this form of assisted
reproduction but as I read over some of the potential cases I thought of one thing: An argument
against of single women is the welfare of the child, who has the right to fit into a familyrelationship
(with a mother and a father). Regarding the artificial insemination donor, important questions arise.
Should the identity of the donor who provided sperm for couples be revealed? What information
will be given to the child in the future?

Arguement For Animal Cruelty
I am an animal person so I would make a law that would toughen the penalty against people who
commit animal cruelty. There are currently laws that prohibit animal cruelty, some of them being
fins, and some face jail time. There are many people that do get punished at all for committing
even the worst of animal cruelty. My proposal would be that everyone would get punished based
on the crime. Most animal suffering is unrecognized. The punishment should be just like a person
would get punished if they committed the same crime against another person. I am also a nurse,
and have worked in a public health department where I saw a lot of parents that did not vaccinate
their child because of one reason or another. I would make it a law that

Compare Shakespeare To Autumn
we see the two poems that time of year by shakespeare and To Autumn by Keats has inseparable
role of youth and death as a analogy for life flow of season,.although both poem depict death and
dying as tribble tragedy. poem To autumn presents death as season while That time of year present
death as .
First , we see In theses poems, the act of creation is pictured as a kind of self harvesting; the pen
harvests the fields of the brain, and books are filled with the resulting grain . In To Autumn, the
metaphor is developed further, the sense of coming loss that permeates the poem confronts the
sorrow underlying the season s creativity. When Autumn s harvest is over, the fields will be bare,

When the words are studied, there is an even mixture of loud and soft sounds. Some soft
sounding words words that use consonant sounds that are soft when spoken such as an s
include mists, close, son, bless, mossed, and trees. There are also the hard sounding words
words that use consonant sounds that are loud when spoken such as a b or t like maturing,
round, thatch, and budding. The words do not appear to be randomly used, but they seem to
have a pattern: the hard and soft sounds come in pairs. In the second line, we see, close bosom
friend of the maturing sun. Close and bosom go together, with close being loud and soft with the
hard c and soft s, and bosom being loud and soft with the b and s. The words maturing sun are
not placed together haphazardly either. Maturing is a very hard word with the m and t sound;
sun is a very soft word, beginning with an s. Also, in the third line Keats says, Conspiring with
him how to load and bless. Autumn is conspiring . . . to load (loud due to the p and d sounds)
and bless (soft due to the double s sound). Again, Keats pairs a loud and a soft sound. This gives
the whole stanza a generally loud, lively sound with a quiet hiss in the background. This tells of the
great bounty of the current time, but adds a quiet feeling to it, such as what Keats was trying to
communicate that death or a time of quiet

Safety Goggles Lab
When observing, assisting, or leading a high school or undergraduate chemistry lab, the statement
that is frequently said and heard is the reminder to put on safety goggles. Often times students will
forget about wearing their goggles or they will place their goggles on their foreheads, instead of
covering their eyes. The have been personal experiences where students will argue with the
instructor about not wearing their goggles during an experiment. The distaste of the safety goggles
typically comes from the comfortability of the goggles (1), and students will remove their goggles
as soon as possible. Once an instructor notices the improper placement of the goggles, the whole lab
hears the loud statement of PUT ON YOUR GOGGLES PLEASE. The students spines may tighten
when hearing the reminder several times during a single experiment, but they should not blame the
instructor. Wearing the appropriate eyeprotection correctly is... Show more content on

Sharpless was an assistant professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the
year 1970. Dr. Sharpless noted that he always wore eye protection in the lab, except for this one
occasion. He was checking on a new student in the graduate program while the student was
sealing a NMR tube. Two major mistakes occurred while aiding the new student. The first
mistake was not looking up how to properly seal the NMR tube, and the second was Dr.
Sharpless not wearing his goggles. While taking the tube out of liquid nitrogen, the solvent
inside the tube exploded causing shards of glass to enter one of Dr. Sharpless s eyes. This lab
accident cause Dr. Sharpless to lose his vision completely in the eye that was impacted by the
glass shards. Dr. Sharpless ends his story with a message for the students who complain about
wearing their goggles. This message is the lesson to be learned from my experience is
straightforward: there s simply never an adequate excuse for not wearing safety glasses in the
laboratory at all times

The Effects Of Hunting On The World Of Hunting
The hunting society has changed drastically throughout the years due to developmental studies
with technology a huge game changer in the world of hunting, and with the impact of over
population of deer in the U.S has made a big impact on our crops and forests, and how hunting can
be good for your health with it providing exercise and healthy eating. I will now begin to skim the
surface of these subjects.
Hunting is a very controversial subject that has only become more sensitive now days. Some say
that hunting is murder, destroying the environment due to the possibility of exceeding proper
limitations. Most hunters are out there to bag a trophy buck known for their big body size and
large racks, which is not a bad idea due to the facts that removing an alfa male from the area will
normally cause the female deer to move to look for another alfa male causing them to leave the
area, in which could help or destroy that areas. (MILNER) A study by R. Swilhart in 1997, shows
there were over 20 million deer in the U.S alone and still growing estimating 100 deer/square mile.
(Swilhart) These ever growing numbers are destroying our crops and forests. Forest service s
researcher Stephen Horsley made this assessment,
The current density is producing devastating and long term effects on forests. For aging deer
vacuum up the seedlings of highly preferred species, reducing plant diversity and in the extreme,
creating near mono cultures. It could take decades or even hundreds of years to

Consumer Culture And Contemporary Childhood Agency
Sociologists have looked at consumption theories primarily through adult relationships of
production and consumption. By introducing children as consumers, it is opens up a wide range of
areas to study their influence on consumer culture. It is evident through the child s relationship with
their parents, money, identity, and social relations that children have a crucial role in consumption
patterns. New marketingand advertisingtechniques have been introduced accordingly, further
emerging the child consumer and their influence on the economy. The child s relationship with
technological devices opens them up to a world of advertisements and marketing ploys made just
for them. The idea of consumer culture and contemporary childhood agency have been interwoven
and then becomes questioned whether it is benefitical to children or not. This develops concern in
many parents as they feel as though they should be protecting their children from these influences.
This paper will address the issue of children as passive or active consumers and whether their
participation in consumerismis useful to them. The development of the child consumer begins with
the expecting mother as advertisers, marketers, designers and retailers look to capture the attention
of mothers to set their children up as consumers before they are even born. Expecting mothers are
bombarded with advertising and marketing schemes to start the child s consumption patterns. An
example of this being the gifts given

Character Analysis Of Lulu
According to author Lyn Gardner of the guardian.com Lulu is described as the face that launched
a thousand fantasies. She is all things to all men . . . She is a blank. She is what you want her to
be. Her name is Lulu, and she is nothing but trouble (Gardner). The First Lulu gleans the drama,
deception, lies, and vengeance akin to play s Don Giovanniand Don Juan. However, one of the
primary differences remains is Lulus character is a woman. However, Lulu is no less cunning, in
fact her character is more cavalier and unrepentant in her unfaithfulness to men compared to Don

Therefore Lulu candidly expresses her distaste in Frank Wedekind s play The First Lulu. Lulu
notes he is banal Simple minded. No education. No inkling what impression he gives. Sees nothing,
neither himself nor me. Blind as a stovepipe (qtd. in Wedekind 80).
Although Schooning has ulterior motives, he has enough concern for the lady he desires to
marry and his friendship with Schwartz to end the affair. Schoning says when Schwartz married
Lulu, he became his friend (qtd. in Wedekind 80). Therefore, Schoning encourages Lulu to settle
down, Schoning says take him in hand. That s what any wife has to do . . . If he has no
education, what about . . . The sacred ties of . . . ? (qtd. in Wedekind 81). Thus, Lulu has no
respect for the relationship affirmed in her statement suspicious as a thief yet lets himself be lied
to and deceived . . . One loses all respect . . . On our wedding night, I made him believe I was still
a virgin (qtd. in Wedekind 82). As the play continues, Lulu s unfaithfulness continues, and she uses
many men to get whatever she pleases. Moreover, Lulu switches male partners similar to changing
costumes witnessed in the video clip Pandora s Box. However, the most saddening part of the play
lies in the woman Gerschwitz. Moreover, Gerschwitz loved Lulu passionately and desperately
wanted to be with her. Yet as the play continued Gerschwitz heart darkens as a result of the
continued rejection from Lulu. Also,

Analysis Of Robert Hayden s Frederick Douglas
Robert Hayden has been considered one of America s best African American poets of the
modern era. He did not consider himself to be a black poet but liked to think of himself as an
American poet. He was a first in many ways, including the awards he won, his style of writing,
and the level of success he had even tho he was a negro poet. Robert Hayden was a great poet.
Robert Hayden was born on August 4, 1913 in Detroit Michigan to Asa and Ruth Sheffey. His
birth name was Asa Bundy Sheffey put his name changed to Robert Hayden when he was
adopted because his parents had split up before he was born. His foster parents lived next door to

He tells us how in the winter, his father would be up before everyone else to warm up the house
so that they wouldn t be so cold when they got out of bed. Robert was hesitant to come out of his
room because he was afraid of the chronic angers of the house which is referring to how his
foster parents always fought. Their fighting had always deeply troubled him. Hayden wrote
Frederick Douglas because his story was a source of inspiration to him. The poem is about the
struggles of the African Americans during the age of slavery and how they fought through it and
how people like Frederick Douglas will be remembered as nothing more than a fighter and a
symbol to represent how far the black population has come and how their fight is not yet over.
The Middle Passage is about the Africans journey to America where they will be sold into slavery
and how tragic it was. It explains in detail how inhuman and terrible it was. It tells how many of
the Africans died at sea, how disease ran rampant due no sanitation and tight quarters, just in general
how horrible the whole ordeal was. And that was just the

How The Hundred Years War Greatly Impacted The Course Of...
The hundred years war greatly impacted the course of world history. This war was marked as
one of the biggest wars ever fought in history. Dated to go from 1337 to 1453, this war led to
new weapons being created, which not only played a major role in this war, but in all of world
history. The creation of these new weapons led to the end of an economic system known as
Feudalism. The war also was a cause of religious conflicts in the Catholic church. Another major
event that had happened during this war was the Black Plague striking the Middle East. The
Hundred Years War began when Edward III, of England, assumed the right as king of France
from King Philip VI. King Philip VI had not gone through with an agreement he had made with
England to restore a part of Guienne, which had been taken by Charles IV. The French did not
believe that an Englishmen should be ruling France, but rather wanted a French noble ruling
France (Hundred Years War). In the beginning of the war, King Edward III attacked and took
over Flanders, which was a marketplace for wool and cloths (Hundred Years War). The Hundred
Years War was not only marked as important in world history for it s length on the timeline, but
also for some of the major events that happened, such as the Black Plague, the end of Feudalism,
and the major battles that had occurred. Feudalism is the old political and economic system that
Medieval Europe had used at the the time of the war. In the feudalist society, the only

Regardless if the families had been there for four generations and paid their rent on time, yet they

Perseverance Reflection
When I first started to think about what the theme of my lesson was going to be, I immediately
thought about my preschool and pre k students that I work with on a daily basis. What are they
learning now? What are some important concepts in life that haven t been taught in depth? What
concept can be difficult to comprehend without implementing drama? These were just some of the
many questions that were going through my head. When I first came across the book The Most
Magnificent Thing by Ashley Speirs, I immediately was captured by the theme of perseverance
in the book. The week that I found the book, I had been working with a student who was trying
to complete a puzzle and she was getting frustrated. I sat down with her and encouraged her to
continue trying and with a little help she completed the puzzle. The look on her face when she
completed that puzzle was electrifying. She was so excited and so proud of herself when she
finally fit that last piece into the puzzle. This experience helped me when choosing the topic of
my monologue because when I came across the book, I realized that the concept of perseverance
would be a perfect concept to teach through the integration of drama. One reason, I felt like the
integration of drama would be so useful in teaching this concept was that many students are
probably able to comprehend the definition of perseverance, but what does perseverance look like?
How does it feel when you persevere? That is where I thought integrating drama

Economic And Economic Effects Of The Social Revolution...
During the Industrial Revolution, the working class were working for about 16 hours a day
including children. This lead children and adults in bad terms. In other words, they were living in
urban areas and many diseases were spreading due to the fact that they wouldn t take good care of
themselves. The Industrial Revolutionbegan in Great Britain in the 18th Century because
Agricultural Revolution had more resources, Britain had resources, and Britain had wealth to
invest. The Industrial Revolution was rapid changes in how products were made and sold by using
machines in the late 1700s through the early 1900s. There were many economic and social effects
in the Industrial Revolution. The working class struggled a lot with money issues and they would
get sick often due to the poor working conditions. During the Industrial Revolution, the effects were
economic negative because the workers were getting treated unfairly. It was also negative social
because the working class were living in bad conditions.
Economically, the effects were negative in the Industrial Revolution because in factories many
workers such as adults and children were getting treated in a negative way.One example of a
negative economic effect of the Industrial Revolution can be found in Document # 3. The
document was created by William Cooper and Joseph Sadler who was a former factory worker the
British Parliament in London 1832. Since they were former factory workers they already had an
idea of the working conditions in factories. The document explains how workers were getting
mistreated in factories. This example shows the economic effects of the Industrial Revolution
were negative because child labors started at a young age and worked for about 16 hours a day.
They were only allowed to get a 40 minute break in all the 16 hours. This means that they wouldn
t eat very well and were getting paid very little since they were children. Working long hours was
making children very tired. This impact their lives in a negative way because they were so young
and were already suffering from working long hours. Another example can be found in the article

School Prayer In Schools
School Prayer is a very controversial topic in our country today. Many famous figures in this nation
support the idea, but there is a number of citizens that do not. Wonder what the verdict is
constitutionally? Let s dig in and find out. The conflict of school prayer goes all the way back to
the nineteenth century. There was a lot of immigrants coming to the United States, and the majority
of them were catholic. A big influence on making school prayerin schools were mainly catholic and
other denominational and non denominational groups. In the twentieth century, a number of states
passed laws that it was mandatory for schools to have prayer and bible readings everyday before
class. School Prayer should be permitted in the United States because it is in the constitution,
former presidents have promoted it; and teachers would have freedom of religionin the class.
The Supreme Court made school prayer unconstitutional, but is still debated today. People who
agree with prayer say that if they remove prayer, that it is the public school s mission to provide
children with an education in mores and values, as well as academic preparation. Supporters also
say that when students volunteer to pray, they have the right to the law of separation of church and
state, and other laws between the lines of freedom of religion. In God we Trust mottos and using

Taking a Look at Islam
Islam is a religion that tells it believers a complete way of living. The core belief of Islam is that
there is no God but Allah and Muhammad (S.A.W) is the last prophet of God. The concept of
worship in Islam is a general concept which meets all the good in religion and life. The truth of
worship is all said and works that appeal to Allahand you are satisfied. The Muslim in life knows
that he is a true servant of Allah and obeying Allah seeks to fulfill and to avoid what banned in all
things, in life and religion and because it is his honor to be his servant (Von Grunebaum, 2013). The
Abrahamic religions are monotheistic faiths that recognize spiritual identification with Abraham.
Islam, Christianity and Judaism share the patriarch Abraham. Although the three monotheistic
religions: Jews, Christians and Muslims are Abrahamic religions, because they come from the
patriarch Abraham, is only in Islam where the Eid El Adja, or feast of sacrifice; where the Prophet
Abraham is the protagonist, is celebrated with great splendor. The Jews are considered the
descendants of Abraham, who was devoted to the service of the one God, creator of heaven and
earth. This God demands righteousness and justice. Abraham s belief was an ethical monotheism.
His descendants were to spread that belief and remain faithful to the covenant with God. God
would watch in his favor and give them a possession the Holy Land. All families of the earth could

Theseus And Phaedr The Value Of Family Loyalty
The value of family loyalty is important in any given society whether it s from 800 B.C. to 2016,
granted not all families work together the family members that show loyalty to one another tend to
be set up for admiration. All these different relationships are what makes a family, whether it s the
loyalty between Theseus and Phaedra or you re Theseus cursing his son into exile. The Athenian
hero Theseus, took part in many adventures and so many enterprises. He helps the Argives after the
War of the Seven against Thebes, when the Thebans refused to allow the defeated to bury their
dead, he helps Oedipusand his daughters, and prevents Hercules from killing himself after his

Even though that wasn t showing loyalty to his own son he was showing loyalty to his wife. I
believe that this would still apply to today s society or at least should apply. There are so many
stories of women not being believed when they share their story of rape which is awful. Like any
good human should, one would hope that the woman s story is the side taken and the offender sent
into exile.
Another example of Theseus showing his loyalty is to his father when he goes on his quest to find
him. It s pretty uncommon for a child to want to go find their father after he abandoned him his
whole life. But he understands the importance of loyalty to his family. This commonly relates to
kids that grow up without a parent or parents that choose to go and find them, despite the
abandonment.

important to keep loyalty in mind, any family can take this lesson into account to keep a strong

Giselle Ballet Essay
First announced as a two act performance on June 28th, 1841, Giselle is a famous ballet about a
young peasant girl who falls in love with a noble man, but dies upon hearing that he is betrothed
to another woman. During this early period of history, women were looked down on by men and
viewed as being extremely emotional. Despite this background, some people still conclude that the
depiction of women is not precise enough in this ballet. To me, however, it is very clear; I believe
that Giselle characterized women as being weak.
In the opening scenes Giselle is seen joyously dancing and being pursued by her lover Albrecht.

This scene has even been named the mad scene due to her shocking response and delirious
pointing. In my opinion, if she were a strong woman, she would have realized that he wronged her
and would have not gotten so upset or thrown herself into a chaos that ended up costing her life.
She also wouldn t have had such low self esteem to say in scene 8, I should die if he does not love
me anymore (42) as if there is nothing more worth living for than a man. The idea of madness at
the time was always connected with women. Women were thought to experience overpowering
emotions due to hormones and this idea was vividly illustrated by Giselle in the mad scene . Once
again, since Giselle was the main female character, this also showed women as being feeble and
less than.
Finally, I noticed that it seemed like most of the women in the ballet could not let go of
something which I believe also portrayed women as weak. In Act 2, at 1:27:55 in the ballet,
Giselle places herself in front of Albrecht to save him from the evil revenge of the Wilis. She
continues to dance in his place and protect him even though he very obviously did her wrong; he
led her on in the first act. Giselle can t even let go of a man who practically cheated on her. On
the other side, the Wilis will not let go of their past experiences with men and their need to get
revenge on men in general. Some may argue that the Wilis seem strong in the sense that they have

Essay about Elites And The Masses
Elites and the Masses
There are many theories pertaining to the nature of power in society. In modern society, it is
important to identify where and when power is exercised, who benefits and who suffers from it
being exerted upon them. In this tradition, it is useful to examine the managerialist perspective.
Managerialism focuses on organizations as the basis, or unit of analysis of society, to which all
other aspects of society are subordinate to. These organizations use their resources in an attempt to
dominate each other and society. Managerialism tells us that power is concentrated among a group
of elites who control organizations, and use them as an instrument to gain more power and expand

The increased use of assembly lines in production is a prime example of depersonalization within
bureaucracy.
Weber identifies several different types of authority. One is traditional legitimacy, which states that
authority is bestowed upon someone based on traditional roles of authority, such as the pope or
even the parents of children. Charismatic authority tells us that some are granted legitimacy to have
authority over our lives by sheer charisma, such as Martin Luther King jr., Adolf Hitler and Gandhi.
The third type of authority is rational legal authority. This states that we grant legitimacy based
upon the office they serve. An example of this is the inherent authority of Jesse Ventura over the
people of Minnesota, simply because he holds the title of governor.
In the managerial perspective, the economy is seen as a process of three different factors:
industrialization, elite competition and bureaucratic rationalization.
Industrialization is characterized by the increased role of technology as an integral factor of
production. As industrialization and science further blend together, the economy becomes
increasingly large and complex, making bureaucratic organizations more and more of a necessary
function to the advancement of

Advantages And Cons Of Outsourcing
2.1 Outsourcing
Kamensky and Morales (2006, 45) define outsourcing as a management strategy that contracts out
organizational activities to vendors or suppliers who specialize in these activities in order to
perform them more efficiently and effectively. Outsourcing is defined as the practice of turning
over entire business functions to an outside vendor that can supposedly can perform the specialized
tasks better and less expensively than the organization choosing to outsource. Outsourcing differs
from privatization in that outsourcing, the work load is shifted from in house government providers
to the private sector, but no transfer or sale of assets has occurred. Outsourcing needs the
government to remain fully responsible for the provision of all services and management decisions.
Other transactions include direct vendor delivery, hiring long term trained staff, etc.

As the world progresses technology everyday, the reliance on the Internet and its uses become
more and more necessary. Many people connect to hundreds of applications and devices they use
every single day. Behind these applications are extremely complex networks that allow users to
connect in ways that expand every single day. To achieve this, companies must design their
networks for secure access and reliability to allow seamless access for users. On the back end
these companies must also have a secure network in place for their offices, remote workers, and

With frame relay the user only has to pay for the local loop and the allotted bandwidth they
purchased. Since these loops are shared between many users the cost is reduced. Frame Relay
provides a better alternative because it only requires a single point of access. From that point of
access the Frame Relay allows the sites to connect together. On top of the overall cost, it is also
much simpler to configure which results in less overhead yet again. The connections were
simpler to establish because Customer Service Equipment or CPE would be configured and
linked to the ISPs Frame relay switch. This allowed end user configuration management to be
simple and straightforward. Besides cost savings, Frame relay is also more reliable and
provides more bandwidth than private/leased lines. Frame relay provides greater flexibility
versus leased lines by using Virtual Circuits or VCs. As communication is desired between
locations, a connection to a Virtual Circuit is formed. In this process each end point connection
uses a Data Link Connection Identifier or DLCI which acts as an address for the end point. Data
sent through the relay is taken from the network layer of the OSI model and is then encapsulated
through the data portion of the frame relay frame. Once this is done, the frame is then sent to the
physical layer for delivery. Within the packet there will be an address field that includes the DLCI
and checksum to show where the packet needs to go. Another alternative to a

How Biobutanol Is More Feasible Alternative For Gasoline
Biobutanol is a more feasible alternative to gasoline. It is a more viable motor fuel substitute to
gasoline, as biomass from which biobutanol is derived from is readily available for production
and more importantly is a renewable resource. Gasoline is a crude oil product derived from
petroleum, which is finite and unsustainable as a motor fuel, because it is increasingly being used
up faster than it is being produced. It is expected that with continued research, biobutanol could
eventually surpass gasolineas the primary motor fuel. Evidence proves that biobutanol is more
acceptable environmentally than gasoline and conveniently, biomass is readily available for the
steady production of biobutanol. Biobutanol is more advantageous... Show more content on

These factors would lead to biobutanol being considerably more efficient economically. In addition
to that, compared to gasoline or other motor fuel, (methanol, ethanol etc.) biobutanol has an
increased energy content and burning efficiency, which is advantageous as it can be useful for
longer travels, which would be beneficial economically speaking (Liu, Wang and Zhang, 2013).
According to Table 1 below from The Promising Biofuel report, Butanol has few properties that
give it an advantage over gasoline. The octane number for butanol is higher than the octane
number of gasoline. The octane number of the fuel determines whether the fuel in the car is
detonating instead of running smoothly and having a high octane number is advantageous in the
long run as there is significantly a lot less energy wastage and the engine of the car will also last
a lot longer as less damage is sustained (Stevens, 2008). Butanol also has a much lower saturation
pressure, meaning that butanol is likely to have a significantly lower volatility. This is beneficial
as gasoline with its high saturation pressure, will easily evaporate rapidly at room temperature,
whereas butanol with its lower saturation pressure will be less inclined to. This idea is also
supported by the evaporation heat of gasoline and butanol. It is shown that more heat is required for
the latter to substance to evaporate than the former. With all the price advantages that

The Crucible Summary
The Crucible, written by Arthur Miller in 1953, is a fictional story based on historical facts of
the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. Originally a hit Broadway play, The Crucible was later adapted
into film format. Miller s inspiration for The Crucible came from a brief anti Communist
movement led by Senator Joseph McCarthy of Wisconsin during the Cold War in the 1950s.
During this time, the American government conducted their own version of a witch hunt by
illegally investigating American citizens suspected of being Soviet sympathizers. Miller was
inspired to write The Crucible after his own arrest and after being one of many to be blacklisted in
Hollywood. Arthur Miller metaphorically compares the hysteria of the Salem Witch Trials to the

The Bone Marrow
The bone marrow is layers of tissue found inside bones, made up of specialised cells called

role of platelets is the formation of blood clots to prevent excessive bleeding which can have
dangerous complexities on health. Thrombocytes work on a specific layer called the endothelium
made up of simple, squamas cells called endothelial cells. The function of the endothelium is to act
as a semi permeable barrier, assist in vasoconstriction/dilation and help in thrombosis. When this
layer is damaged, bloodcan rapidly escape, in that case platelets form bonds with protein fibres.

because of the impact it has on prostaglandin production. Prostaglandins have numerous functions
one of which is a process called cytoprotection. (10) Cytoprotection reduces HCL production from
the parietal cells and stimulate alkaline mucus production needed for neutralisation, which are
necessary to protect the mucosa from damage caused by gastric juices and acids. Furthermore,
prostaglandin help dilates vessels to increase the volume of blood flow to the stomach, in turn
increasing rate of repair and renewal of cells and as importantly carrying away acids from the
stomach which can damage the mucosa lining (11). Therefore, by preventing prostaglandin
production, the gastric acids can continue to attack the mucosa lining and this can lead to excessive
bleeding enhanced by the anti platelet properties of aspirin which further prevent clotting or even
form ulcers. Problems with a bleeding

Because of the shift in the ICD, the cells will swell causing it to decrease its ability to function
followed by a ruptured cell.

a.If fluid loss is continuing to happen, the blood volume will decrease as well, causing dehydration,
meaning ECF will shift to ICF.
b.If fluid loss is continuing to happen the, cell function will decrease as well or it ll stop working
properly as the fluid increases inside the cell and it may cause the cell to rupture.
c.If fluid loss is continuing to happen, the kidney may over work itself. Because of the dehydration,
the kidney is trying to compensate by making concentrated urine.

Analysis Of Mark Twain s The Great Gatsby
Mark Twain s works are some of the most studied and exalted when it comes to American
Literature. Twain lived in many different places in his life time, thus his works had roots in many
different areas of American Culture. From a silver prospector to a printing press worker, he held
many different jobs in these locations. He is also regarded as one of the greatest humorists of
American Literature. In fact, his works were considered to have no place in literature by many
experts until the 1910 s. He is regarded as one of the greatest American authors of all time. And of
course, from being such a prestigious writer, he has and award named after him, and it is to be
given to the best humorist of the year. Mark Twainwas born November 30th, 1835 in Florida,
Missouri when Haley s Comet was in sight (Aller 13). He was born two months premature, but
his superstitious mother believed that it was a good omen that Haley s Comet was in sight
(Koster 42). Four years later his family moved to Hannibal, Missouri to grow hogs and farmed
wheat, tobacco, and marijuana (Camfeild)(Aller 15). He became an apprentice for a printing
company at the age of twelve, and began to study history in his free time (Aller 31). Eventually he
worked for the same printing press company in many different cities in the United States, all the
while exposing himself to many different cultures and ways of life (Gribben). After his job as a
printing press worker, he became a steamboat pilot (Gribben).

Ehrenreich s Nickel And Dimed, By Barbara Ehrenreich
A Call to Action
In her novel, Nickel and Dimed, Barbara Ehrenreich states the working poor should be
categorized as a state of emergency, and while that may first appear as extreme title, it would
certainly promote action in our society. This call to action is one of the main motivations behind
Ehrenreich s writing of this novel. If viewing the working poor as a state of emergency promotes
society to take action, then so be it. It is clear from Ehrenreich s novel that the life of the working
poor is not a sustainable lifestyle. Whether it s continuing to work after spraining your ankle out
of fear of missing work or calling a motel or car your home, it s not a life anyone should be forced
to live.
It is easy for anyone to tell that the life of the working poor is not the ideal lifestyle. Though in
Ehrenreich s words, It is common, among the nonpoor, to think of poverty as a sustainable
condition. (214)She means to say that it is easy for the nonpoor to ignore the true realities of
those in the working class. Many in fact are not ignoring the realities but have never become
aware of them in the first place. This is further supported by Ehrenreich statements about how the
media rarely ever truly shows the realities of the working poor. It is hard for society to take action
for a cause they truly don t understand. Though by declaring the working poor as a state of
emergency this would draw attention to the realities of the average lifestyle. In such creating

How To Put My Incapacitated Dog
On Wednesday, June 18, 2003, I had finalized the decision to put my incapacitated dog to rest. It
became a reality. I clearly remember the warm, breezy day that occurred two weeks ago. As I sat
in the freshly cutgrass of my front yard, I paid no attention to the sounds of the birds that were
singing or the leaves that were dancing on the trees. All that was on my mind was the details of
the last 13 years and remembering the times we shared together. As I kept trying to convince
myself that he would not have to suffer another day from his ailments, I kept thinking of the first
day that he came into my life. I was 15 years old when I got Valen. It was Valentine s Day
in 1990.
Earlier that week my motherwas near Port Jervis, New York on a business trip. She had some free
time before she had to come home to Pennsylvania so she decided to stop at the local SPCA. Her
intentions were to simply look at the animals and then leave. She made her way to the area that
housed the dogs. There she found a shy, but friendly, golden retriever. He was a bit apprehensive at
first, almost as if he was neglected and abused, but it didn t take much of my mom s gentle touch
and her soft, subtle voice before this dog realized she was his savior. She decided that she would
like to adopt this dog however, the policy was strict, and there was a seven day waiting period
before you could adopt an animal. This was in place to allow ample time for the owner to claim
their animals if they got astray. As much as my mom wanted to leave that day with the dog, she
had to wait. It was on Tuesday, February 13, 1990 that my mom received a call from the SPCA.
They were pleased to have the opportunity to offer her the dog through adoption since no one had
come forward to claim him. She decided that she would go back to New York the next day to pick
him up. On Valentine s Day, I got home from school and to my surprise I was greeted at the door
by this vivacious, brown eyed golden retriever. I was so excited and I immediately sat down on
the cold, ceramic floor and played with my new friend. We rolled all over the floor and I was
giggling as he licked my face, and at the same time, he was whimpering with happiness. We did this
for about an hour until I

John Locke s Theory Of Religious Tolerance
John Locke, a 17th century English philosopher is remembered for his great contributions to
three issues that was important during his time and still concerns us today. The three topics
Locke covered during his lifetime was how to handle people with different religion, determining
who should rule, and how to educate our children. Locke developed theories from the three
topics because they played a central role in his life. Religion politics and education influence
Locke s writing and because of his writing we have a foundation of modern philosophical
empiricism and political liberalism. Locke was born during the 20 year English Civil War. Due
to the result in the death of Charles I, England reinvented themselves so that the church and the
state will be combined. Locke did not agree that the government should rule over religion. He
believed in freedom of belief. His theories of religious tolerance was written in Letters Concerning
Toleration (1689 92) due to the aftermath of the European wars of religion, creating reasoning for
religious tolerance. Three main arguments that was stated included (1) Earthly judges, the state in
particular, and human beings generally, cannot dependably evaluate the truth claims of competing
religious standpoints. (2) Even if they could, enforcing a single True Religion will not work,
because you can t be compelled in to believe through violence. (3) Coercing religious uniformity
leads to far more social disorder than allowing diversity.

The Deviant Globalization From Gilman s Perspective
Globalization is a developmental process of transnational integration, which mainly reflects on the
economic aspect. The moral standards and legal systems in different regions are changing
differently along with the progress of the society. However, when mentioned globalization, people
mostly refer to mainstream globalization. Deviant globalization the rebarbative dark side of the
global economyis ignored constantly. There is a distinctive evaluation from Nils Gilman deviant
globalization is a form of development. As Harvey (2006) said that human, finance, goods, ideas
and services are considered increasingly as the important factors in the development of
globalization. Therefore, it could be discussed from economic, political and social perspectives to
measure the deviant globalization. This essay aims to analyse the deviant globalization from
Gilman s perspective. Defining the deviant globalization and analysing how the deviant
globalization forms firstly, and using examples to explain the reasons of development of these three
perspectives.
As Gilman, et al (2013) written that deviant globalization refers to meet the demand for illicit or
immoral commodities and services which are provided by other different places with disparate
moral standards or inefficient governments. The range of deviant globalization is wide, for
example, money laundering, unlawful sexual trafficking as well as organ trade and so forth.
Moreover, deviant globalization and mainstream

How Cultural Diversity Is Changing The Workforce. In Todayв
Ђ™S
How Cultural Diversity Is Changing the Workforce In today s society there are many culturally
diverse people in the workforce. Most organizations can no longer make the assumption that every
employee has similar beliefs or expectations. When entering into the global marketplace, people are
considered one of the most valuable resources to an organization s success. A well managed
culturally diverse workforce has the potential to thrive if managed correctly; or if mismanaged,
there can be devastating negative attributes. With great expectations, culturally diverse employees
can foster positive outcomes in the workplace. A company s acknowledgement to embrace diversity

From our research, we identified three different perspectives on workforce diversity that people
embrace, each with different implications for a work group s ability to realize the benefits of its
cultural diversity. We use these observations here to examine critically some of the themes and
basic assumptions of previous research and to propose new directions for both researchers and
practitioners interested in diversity (Ely Thomas, 2001). When organizations have a diverse
economy, it makes the company strong. Once our nation has embrace the changes from the
demographics that reap the economic benefits of a diverse and inclusive workforce. Burns et al.
(2012) stated in their investigation that:
In June 2012, approximately 155,163,00 people were in the labor force (those actively employed or
seeking employment). With a total U.S. working age population of approximately 243 million
individuals, the labor force participation rate currently stands at 63.8 percent. Out of those 155
million individuals in the labor force, 142,415,00 are currently employed, with unemployment
hovering around 8.2 percent .
Statics stated by 2020 the labor force is projected to reach more than 146 million U.S. citizens, a
5.9 percent from today. Economists predict the labor force participation rate will decrease over the
coming decades, as an aging

What is man without the beasts? If all the beasts were gone, men would die from great loneliness of
spirit, for whatever happens to the beasts, also happens to man. All things are connected. Whatever
befalls the earth befalls the children of the earth.
Chief Seattle
The love I have for orangutans comes from an early age. Like most little sisters, my older brother
ruthlessly teased me. When I was a baby he would make me mimic funny faces and stick my hair up
on end. He said I looked like an orangutan. His teasing continued, but instead of getting mad, I
became interested. I began taking a look at these creatures and soon discovered that being compared

Unfortunately, this is no longer the case, and natives are stripping away these creatures habitats for
commercial business. If things don t change, it is believed that orangutans will be extinct in the
wild in as few as ten years. This is something that can only be changed with human intervention.
Two major causes of orangutan endangerment are the illegal selling of baby orangutans and the
unlawful logging of the rainforest in which they live. The bond between a mother orangutan and
her baby is the longest childhood dependence of any animal in the world. Orangutans will only
have one child about every eight years. Baby orangutans nurse until they are about six years old
and then they still stay close to their mothers for a few more years. Female orangutans will
sometimes stay with their mother until their adolescents, in order to learn how to take care of their
own babies by watching their mothers take care of a younger sibling.
The already low natural population increase makes any killing a major threat to the survival of the
species. Because babies stay with their mother for so many years, the only way to capture one is to
kill the mother. Although highly illegal, baby orangutans are being sold as family pets as a high
commodity on the black market. When the babies

Different Types Of Habitable Zones
Introduction Life is an amazing and seemingly rare phenomenon. With the materials necessary
and the process that had to take place in a certain order, at certain times, it really is a wonder that
we are here. What is even more impressive is that we have managed to evolve past single celled
organisms, and into intelligent life forms. With our increased intelligence, there coincides an
increased number of questions that need answers. Does other life exist? What do planets need to
support life? Where do we go from here? Throughout this paper, I hope to answer these
questions, or at least provide some evidence as to what we know so far. The focus will mainly be
on the different types of habitable zones, what special resources and properties are required for a
potentially habitable planetwithin one of these zones, and what this all means.
Types
Circumstellar Habitable Zone A circumstellar habitable zone refers to the habitability potential
within a planetary system, and is usually used in reference to one almost identical to our own
(Gonzalez, 2005). Water is one of the most important factors that most all scientists agree is
necessary at this stage of habitability (Gonzalez, 2005). From there, however, there is some
controversy as to what important resources and properties make a planet habitable. Some of the
commonly discussed factors include mass, rotation period, obliquity, distance from sun, atmosphere
composition, and the list could go on and on forever (Gonzalez, 2005).

Boundaries In Beowulf
Humans Create Their Place in the World Through analyzing Beowulf, there is a common theme
throughout the book of proximity and transgression of boundaries. The author creates the proximity
of boundaries by having the Hall, (good), within walking distance of the forest, (bad), and the
transgression of boundaries by having Beowulfenter the mere. These examples within the text
correlate to boundaries that are seen within our modern world. Proximity of boundaries can be
viewed by the closeness of industry and community, and the transgressions can be seen with foreign
interference. These transgressions and proximities of boundaries illustrate how humans create and
protect their own place in the world by controlling proximity and transgressing boundaries when
necessary. In Beowulf, there are several boundaries that have an extremely near proximity to one
another. The most evident example of the proximity of boundaries is the forest and Hrothgar s
Hall. The forest was seen as a, dark, and mysterious place that was associated with the evil
creatures in the book, whereas the Hall was associated with celebration and a sense of safety for
the people. The Danes built Hrothgar s hall with the realization that the forest was in close
proximity to their place of safety. This example illustrates that the Danes created their place within
their environment. Although there are some set boundaries that humans have no control over, such
as night and day, there is a large impact on how humanity creates boundaries and their place in the
world. In our modern day world, there are numerous examples of how humans have pushed the
limits of creating boundaries within close proximity of one another. In Andrew Blackwell s novel,
Visit Sunny Chernobyl, he explores a refinery town within Texas called Port Arthur. Blackwell
explains the overwhelming proximity of the refineries to the city of Port Arthur, and even gives an
example of a child s playground and the immediacy of the refineries. He states, Several hundred
yards beyond the playground were the storage tanks of the Motiva refinery, and beyond them the
refinery itself, illustrating that humans created a refinery, associated with pollutants and darkness in
our society, within

  • 2. The Scopes Monkey Trial In the United States, the early 1920s was a time of shifting and conflicting moral values due to people attempting to see which values would dominate the nation s culture. One conflict was between science and religion; ever since science began to explain what once was unexplainable, it clashed with religion. Thus, in 1925, the Scopes Monkey Trial revealed the struggle of America s culture between the forces of Traditionalism and Modernism. The mixture of religion and science caused one of the most famous debates in American history to occur because ideas were the main focus instead of an actual crime. The Scopes Trial opened the doors to the conflict between faith and science that made it the trial of the century. Dayton is a small beautiful Southern town in Tennessee with only a few thousand inhabitants. However, in 1925, Dayton was on the front pages of newspapers all over the United States. Thousands of Americans were arriving to watch the spectacle that happened in this town. Mencken, one of the reporters that came to see the trial unfold, stated that the Scopes Trial was an extraordinary opportunity to put the small town of Dayton on the map (Scopes Trial, Mencken s Trial Account, July 9, p. 1). Not only that, the trial brought Clarence Darrow, the nation s greatest defense attorney, and William Jennings Bryan, the nation s greatest political orator and three time presidential candidate, into the trial. Due to these factors, New York Times called it the most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The point of this movement was for the society to reform on a new base such as emphasizing reason and individualism over tradition. Enlightenment thinkers, Montesquieu, Rousseau, Beccaria, Locke, and Voltaire helped launched this project amongst Europeans. John Locke, for example, criticized absolute monarchy and favored self government. Voltaire also believed that people should be able to speak their minds without the fear they may be punished. Through these philosophy influence, this eventually leads to European rulers ruling with a sense of equality, democratic governance, and abolition. John Locke known as an Enlightenment thinker believed in the equality between men. • 4. Ticks Use Several Ways For Locate Hosts Ticks use several ways to locate hosts. Some quest, i.e. they crawl onto vegetation and wait for passing hosts which they grab onto using their front legs, then crawl on the host until they find a suitable site to attach and feed (Walker et al., 2003). The tick s questing behaviour is related to host kairomones which are residues rubbed off host body onto vegetation (Terassini et al., 2010). Ticks become akinetic upon encountering residues of kairomones (Carroll, 1998). As Artiodactyla and Peryssodactyla usually frequent the same trails (Emmons and Feer, 1997), ticks waiting on these positions have a chance of successfully encountering the host (Carroll, 2003). Arrestment pheromones present in cast larval skins, tickfaecal droppings and tick body exudates also induce akinetic (Sonenshine and Roe, 2014). These two pheromones result in clustering of ticks. The arrestment pheromones are interspecies specific, i.e Ornithodoros moubata arrestment pheromones induce ceasation of movement in O. tholozani (Sonenshine, 2004). This behaviour is also expressed between some different genera (Sonenshine and Roe, 2014). Adult ticks of Amblyomma and Hyalomma are exophilic, i.e. they hunt for a nearby host by running across the ground (Walker et al., 2003). Argasids and many Ixodes species are endophilic, i.e. they spent their life time in a host s nest from where they attach to available host. A few species of ticks have adapted to human dwellings, e.g. Rhipicephalus sanguineus. These feed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Spartans Military And The Spartan Military Vs. Roman Military Spartans Military (Greece) vs. Rome Military War. War never changes. Since the dawn of humankind, when our ancestors first discovered the killing power of rock and bone, blood has been spilled in the name of everything from god to justice to simple psychotic rage (Howard). When you think about all the armies that have walked this earth the first two you might think of are the Spartan Warriors and the Roman Legionnaires. With both empires so vastly iconic they share a lot of ideas such as their military views, but just because they have the same ideas does not mean they portray them in the same manner. for example how they train their men, the weapons they would use and their overall battle strategies / formations. Training is a vital ordeal in everything you do from sports to a new job that everyone can do different. This is the case for the Spartans and Romans. Before Spartans are even born their skill sets are already delegated. The Spartans believed in competition and the winners were held in high praise. Thus having the strong men marring the strong women and the fast men marring the fast women in hope of having a son share their physical attribute. After birth the babies are inspected by the Spartan Elders, if imperfect the babies would be thrown off a cliff said to be not fit for battle. When the child then reaches the age of seven he is sent to a military boarding school where he is taught to fight. The Romans did nothing as formidable as the Spartans. The ... There are currently laws that prohibit animal cruelty, some of them being fins, and some face jail time. There are many people that do get punished at all for committing even the worst of animal cruelty. My proposal would be that everyone would get punished based on the crime. Most animal suffering is unrecognized. The punishment should be just like a person would get punished if they committed the same crime against another person. When the words are studied, there is an even mixture of loud and soft sounds. There are also the hard sounding words words that use consonant sounds that are loud when spoken such as a b or t like maturing, round, thatch, and budding. The words do not appear to be randomly used, but they seem to have a pattern: the hard and soft sounds come in pairs. In the second line, we see, close bosom friend of the maturing sun. Close and bosom go together, with close being loud and soft with the hard c and soft s, and bosom being loud and soft with the b and s. The words maturing sun are not placed together haphazardly either. Maturing is a very hard word with the m and t sound; sun is a very soft word, beginning with an s. Also, in the third line Keats says, Conspiring with him how to load and bless. Autumn is conspiring . . . to load (loud due to the p and d sounds) and bless (soft due to the double s sound). Again, Keats pairs a loud and a soft sound. This gives the whole stanza a generally loud, lively sound with a quiet hiss in the background. I will now begin to skim the surface of these subjects. Hunting is a very controversial subject that has only become more sensitive now days. Some say that hunting is murder, destroying the environment due to the possibility of exceeding proper limitations. Most hunters are out there to bag a trophy buck known for their big body size and large racks, which is not a bad idea due to the facts that removing an alfa male from the area will normally cause the female deer to move to look for another alfa male causing them to leave the area, in which could help or destroy that areas. By introducing children as consumers, it is opens up a wide range of areas to study their influence on consumer culture. It is evident through the child s relationship with their parents, money, identity, and social relations that children have a crucial role in consumption patterns. New marketingand advertisingtechniques have been introduced accordingly, further emerging the child consumer and their influence on the economy. The child s relationship with technological devices opens them up to a world of advertisements and marketing ploys made just for them. The idea of consumer culture and contemporary childhood agency have been interwoven and then becomes questioned whether it is benefitical to children or not. This develops concern in many parents as they feel as though they should be protecting their children from these influences. This paper will address the issue of children as passive or active consumers and whether their participation in consumerismis useful to them. The development of the child consumer begins with the expecting mother as advertisers, marketers, designers and retailers look to capture the attention of mothers to set their children up as consumers before they are even born. • 16. How The Hundred Years War Greatly Impacted The Course Of... The hundred years war greatly impacted the course of world history. This war was marked as one of the biggest wars ever fought in history. Dated to go from 1337 to 1453, this war led to new weapons being created, which not only played a major role in this war, but in all of world history. The creation of these new weapons led to the end of an economic system known as Feudalism. The war also was a cause of religious conflicts in the Catholic church. Another major event that had happened during this war was the Black Plague striking the Middle East. The Hundred Years War began when Edward III, of England, assumed the right as king of France from King Philip VI. King Philip VI had not gone through with an agreement he had made with England to restore a part of Guienne, which had been taken by Charles IV. The French did not believe that an Englishmen should be ruling France, but rather wanted a French noble ruling France (Hundred Years War). In the beginning of the war, King Edward III attacked and took over Flanders, which was a marketplace for wool and cloths (Hundred Years War). The Hundred Years War was not only marked as important in world history for it s length on the timeline, but also for some of the major events that happened, such as the Black Plague, the end of Feudalism, and the major battles that had occurred. Perseverance Reflection When I first started to think about what the theme of my lesson was going to be, I immediately thought about my preschool and pre k students that I work with on a daily basis. What are they learning now? What are some important concepts in life that haven t been taught in depth? What concept can be difficult to comprehend without implementing drama? These were just some of the many questions that were going through my head. When I first came across the book The Most Magnificent Thing by Ashley Speirs, I immediately was captured by the theme of perseverance in the book. The week that I found the book, I had been working with a student who was trying to complete a puzzle and she was getting frustrated. I sat down with her and encouraged her to continue trying and with a little help she completed the puzzle. The look on her face when she completed that puzzle was electrifying. She was so excited and so proud of herself when she finally fit that last piece into the puzzle. This experience helped me when choosing the topic of my monologue because when I came across the book, I realized that the concept of perseverance would be a perfect concept to teach through the integration of drama. One reason, I felt like the integration of drama would be so useful in teaching this concept was that many students are probably able to comprehend the definition of perseverance, but what does perseverance look like? How does it feel when you persevere? That is where I thought integrating drama ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the Industrial Revolution, the effects were economic negative because the workers were getting treated unfairly. Economically, the effects were negative in the Industrial Revolution because in factories many workers such as adults and children were getting treated in a negative way.One example of a negative economic effect of the Industrial Revolution can be found in Document # 3. Since they were former factory workers they already had an idea of the working conditions in factories. The document explains how workers were getting mistreated in factories. This example shows the economic effects of the Industrial Revolution were negative because child labors started at a young age and worked for about 16 hours a day. They were only allowed to get a 40 minute break in all the 16 hours. This means that they wouldn t eat very well and were getting paid very little since they were children. Wonder what the verdict is constitutionally? Let s dig in and find out. The conflict of school prayer goes all the way back to the nineteenth century. There was a lot of immigrants coming to the United States, and the majority of them were catholic. A big influence on making school prayerin schools were mainly catholic and other denominational and non denominational groups. In the twentieth century, a number of states passed laws that it was mandatory for schools to have prayer and bible readings everyday before class. School Prayer should be permitted in the United States because it is in the constitution, former presidents have promoted it; and teachers would have freedom of religionin the class. The Supreme Court made school prayer unconstitutional, but is still debated today. People who agree with prayer say that if they remove prayer, that it is the public school s mission to provide children with an education in mores and values, as well as academic preparation. Supporters also say that when students volunteer to pray, they have the right to the law of separation of church and state, and other laws between the lines of freedom of religion. Giselle Ballet Essay First announced as a two act performance on June 28th, 1841, Giselle is a famous ballet about a young peasant girl who falls in love with a noble man, but dies upon hearing that he is betrothed to another woman. During this early period of history, women were looked down on by men and viewed as being extremely emotional. Despite this background, some people still conclude that the depiction of women is not precise enough in this ballet. To me, however, it is very clear; I believe that Giselle characterized women as being weak. In the opening scenes Giselle is seen joyously dancing and being pursued by her lover Albrecht. She also wouldn t have had such low self esteem to say in scene 8, I should die if he does not love me anymore (42) as if there is nothing more worth living for than a man. The idea of madness at the time was always connected with women. Women were thought to experience overpowering emotions due to hormones and this idea was vividly illustrated by Giselle in the mad scene . Once again, since Giselle was the main female character, this also showed women as being feeble and less than. Finally, I noticed that it seemed like most of the women in the ballet could not let go of something which I believe also portrayed women as weak. In Act 2, at 1:27:55 in the ballet, Giselle places herself in front of Albrecht to save him from the evil revenge of the Wilis. She continues to dance in his place and protect him even though he very obviously did her wrong; he led her on in the first act. Giselle can t even let go of a man who practically cheated on her. In modern society, it is important to identify where and when power is exercised, who benefits and who suffers from it being exerted upon them. Managerialism focuses on organizations as the basis, or unit of analysis of society, to which all other aspects of society are subordinate to. Weber identifies several different types of authority. One is traditional legitimacy, which states that authority is bestowed upon someone based on traditional roles of authority, such as the pope or even the parents of children. Charismatic authority tells us that some are granted legitimacy to have authority over our lives by sheer charisma, such as Martin Luther King jr., Adolf Hitler and Gandhi. The third type of authority is rational legal authority. This states that we grant legitimacy based upon the office they serve. An example of this is the inherent authority of Jesse Ventura over the people of Minnesota, simply because he holds the title of governor. With frame relay the user only has to pay for the local loop and the allotted bandwidth they purchased. Since these loops are shared between many users the cost is reduced. Frame Relay provides a better alternative because it only requires a single point of access. From that point of access the Frame Relay allows the sites to connect together. On top of the overall cost, it is also much simpler to configure which results in less overhead yet again. The connections were simpler to establish because Customer Service Equipment or CPE would be configured and linked to the ISPs Frame relay switch. This allowed end user configuration management to be simple and straightforward. Besides cost savings, Frame relay is also more reliable and provides more bandwidth than private/leased lines. Frame relay provides greater flexibility versus leased lines by using Virtual Circuits or VCs. As communication is desired between locations, a connection to a Virtual Circuit is formed. In this process each end point connection uses a Data Link Connection Identifier or DLCI which acts as an address for the end point. Data sent through the relay is taken from the network layer of the OSI model and is then encapsulated through the data portion of the frame relay frame. Once this is done, the frame is then sent to the physical layer for delivery. In addition to that, compared to gasoline or other motor fuel, (methanol, ethanol etc.) biobutanol has an increased energy content and burning efficiency, which is advantageous as it can be useful for longer travels, which would be beneficial economically speaking (Liu, Wang and Zhang, 2013). According to Table 1 below from The Promising Biofuel report, Butanol has few properties that give it an advantage over gasoline. The octane number for butanol is higher than the octane number of gasoline. The octane number of the fuel determines whether the fuel in the car is detonating instead of running smoothly and having a high octane number is advantageous in the long run as there is significantly a lot less energy wastage and the engine of the car will also last a lot longer as less damage is sustained (Stevens, 2008). Butanol also has a much lower saturation pressure, meaning that butanol is likely to have a significantly lower volatility. This is beneficial as gasoline with its high saturation pressure, will easily evaporate rapidly at room temperature, whereas butanol with its lower saturation pressure will be less inclined to. Because of the shift in the ICD, the cells will swell causing it to decrease its ability to function followed by a ruptured cell. 9. a.If fluid loss is continuing to happen, the blood volume will decrease as well, causing dehydration, meaning ECF will shift to ICF. b.If fluid loss is continuing to happen the, cell function will decrease as well or it ll stop working properly as the fluid increases inside the cell and it may cause the cell to rupture. c.If fluid loss is continuing to happen, the kidney may over work itself. Because of the dehydration, the kidney is trying to compensate by making concentrated urine. 10.Because of Mr.K.B history, potassium imbalance may have more serious effects on him because he has a history of heart problems, and an abnormal level of potassium may causes cardiac arrhythmias and may progress to a cardiac arrest. • 43. Ehrenreich s Nickel And Dimed, By Barbara Ehrenreich A Call to Action In her novel, Nickel and Dimed, Barbara Ehrenreich states the working poor should be categorized as a state of emergency, and while that may first appear as extreme title, it would certainly promote action in our society. This call to action is one of the main motivations behind Ehrenreich s writing of this novel. If viewing the working poor as a state of emergency promotes society to take action, then so be it. It is clear from Ehrenreich s novel that the life of the working poor is not a sustainable lifestyle. Whether it s continuing to work after spraining your ankle out of fear of missing work or calling a motel or car your home, it s not a life anyone should be forced to live. It is easy for anyone to tell that the life of the working poor is not the ideal lifestyle. Though in Ehrenreich s words, It is common, among the nonpoor, to think of poverty as a sustainable condition. (214)She means to say that it is easy for the nonpoor to ignore the true realities of those in the working class. Many in fact are not ignoring the realities but have never become aware of them in the first place. This is further supported by Ehrenreich statements about how the media rarely ever truly shows the realities of the working poor. It is hard for society to take action for a cause they truly don t understand. Though by declaring the working poor as a state of emergency this would draw attention to the realities of the average lifestyle. In such creating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. How To Put My Incapacitated Dog On Wednesday, June 18, 2003, I had finalized the decision to put my incapacitated dog to rest. It became a reality. I clearly remember the warm, breezy day that occurred two weeks ago. As I sat in the freshly cutgrass of my front yard, I paid no attention to the sounds of the birds that were singing or the leaves that were dancing on the trees. All that was on my mind was the details of the last 13 years and remembering the times we shared together. As I kept trying to convince myself that he would not have to suffer another day from his ailments, I kept thinking of the first day that he came into my life. I was 15 years old when I got Valen. It was Valentine s Day in 1990. Earlier that week my motherwas near Port Jervis, New York on a business trip. She had some free time before she had to come home to Pennsylvania so she decided to stop at the local SPCA. Her intentions were to simply look at the animals and then leave. She made her way to the area that housed the dogs. There she found a shy, but friendly, golden retriever. He was a bit apprehensive at first, almost as if he was neglected and abused, but it didn t take much of my mom s gentle touch and her soft, subtle voice before this dog realized she was his savior. She decided that she would like to adopt this dog however, the policy was strict, and there was a seven day waiting period before you could adopt an animal. This was in place to allow ample time for the owner to claim their animals if they got astray. As much as my mom wanted to leave that day with the dog, she had to wait. It was on Tuesday, February 13, 1990 that my mom received a call from the SPCA. They were pleased to have the opportunity to offer her the dog through adoption since no one had come forward to claim him. She decided that she would go back to New York the next day to pick him up. On Valentine s Day, I got home from school and to my surprise I was greeted at the door by this vivacious, brown eyed golden retriever. I was so excited and I immediately sat down on the cold, ceramic floor and played with my new friend. We rolled all over the floor and I was giggling as he licked my face, and at the same time, he was whimpering with happiness. We did this for about an hour until I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. John Locke s Theory Of Religious Tolerance John Locke, a 17th century English philosopher is remembered for his great contributions to three issues that was important during his time and still concerns us today. The three topics Locke covered during his lifetime was how to handle people with different religion, determining who should rule, and how to educate our children. Locke developed theories from the three topics because they played a central role in his life. Religion politics and education influence Locke s writing and because of his writing we have a foundation of modern philosophical empiricism and political liberalism. Locke was born during the 20 year English Civil War. Due to the result in the death of Charles I, England reinvented themselves so that the church and the state will be combined. Locke did not agree that the government should rule over religion. He believed in freedom of belief. His theories of religious tolerance was written in Letters Concerning Toleration (1689 92) due to the aftermath of the European wars of religion, creating reasoning for religious tolerance. Three main arguments that was stated included (1) Earthly judges, the state in particular, and human beings generally, cannot dependably evaluate the truth claims of competing religious standpoints. (2) Even if they could, enforcing a single True Religion will not work, because you can t be compelled in to believe through violence. (3) Coercing religious uniformity leads to far more social disorder than allowing diversity. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Deviant Globalization From Gilman s Perspective Globalization is a developmental process of transnational integration, which mainly reflects on the economic aspect. The moral standards and legal systems in different regions are changing differently along with the progress of the society. However, when mentioned globalization, people mostly refer to mainstream globalization. Deviant globalization the rebarbative dark side of the global economyis ignored constantly. There is a distinctive evaluation from Nils Gilman deviant globalization is a form of development. As Harvey (2006) said that human, finance, goods, ideas and services are considered increasingly as the important factors in the development of globalization. Therefore, it could be discussed from economic, political and social perspectives to measure the deviant globalization. This essay aims to analyse the deviant globalization from Gilman s perspective. All things are connected. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the children of the earth. Chief Seattle The love I have for orangutans comes from an early age. Like most little sisters, my older brother ruthlessly teased me. When I was a baby he would make me mimic funny faces and stick my hair up on end. He said I looked like an orangutan. His teasing continued, but instead of getting mad, I became interested. I began taking a look at these creatures and soon discovered that being compared to one wasn t completely wrong. Actually,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, this is no longer the case, and natives are stripping away these creatures habitats for commercial business. If things don t change, it is believed that orangutans will be extinct in the wild in as few as ten years. This is something that can only be changed with human intervention. Two major causes of orangutan endangerment are the illegal selling of baby orangutans and the unlawful logging of the rainforest in which they live. The bond between a mother orangutan and her baby is the longest childhood dependence of any animal in the world. Orangutans will only have one child about every eight years. Baby orangutans nurse until they are about six years old and then they still stay close to their mothers for a few more years. Female orangutans will sometimes stay with their mother until their adolescents, in order to learn how to take care of their own babies by watching their mothers take care of a younger sibling. The already low natural population increase makes any killing a major threat to the survival of the species. Because babies stay with their mother for so many years, the only way to capture one is to kill the mother. Although highly illegal, baby orangutans are being sold as family pets as a high commodity on the black market. When the babies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. Different Types Of Habitable Zones Introduction Life is an amazing and seemingly rare phenomenon. With the materials necessary and the process that had to take place in a certain order, at certain times, it really is a wonder that we are here. What is even more impressive is that we have managed to evolve past single celled organisms, and into intelligent life forms. With our increased intelligence, there coincides an increased number of questions that need answers. Does other life exist? What do planets need to support life? Where do we go from here? Throughout this paper, I hope to answer these questions, or at least provide some evidence as to what we know so far. The focus will mainly be on the different types of habitable zones, what special resources and properties are required for a potentially habitable planetwithin one of these zones, and what this all means. Types Circumstellar Habitable Zone A circumstellar habitable zone refers to the habitability potential within a planetary system, and is usually used in reference to one almost identical to our own (Gonzalez, 2005). Water is one of the most important factors that most all scientists agree is necessary at this stage of habitability (Gonzalez, 2005). From there, however, there is some controversy as to what important resources and properties make a planet habitable. Some of the commonly discussed factors include mass, rotation period, obliquity, distance from sun, atmosphere composition, and the list could go on and on forever (Gonzalez, 2005). ... • 55. Boundaries In Beowulf Humans Create Their Place in the World Through analyzing Beowulf, there is a common theme throughout the book of proximity and transgression of boundaries. The author creates the proximity of boundaries by having the Hall, (good), within walking distance of the forest, (bad), and the transgression of boundaries by having Beowulfenter the mere. These examples within the text correlate to boundaries that are seen within our modern world. Proximity of boundaries can be viewed by the closeness of industry and community, and the transgressions can be seen with foreign interference. These transgressions and proximities of boundaries illustrate how humans create and protect their own place in the world by controlling proximity and transgressing boundaries when necessary. In Beowulf, there are several boundaries that have an extremely near proximity to one another. The most evident example of the proximity of boundaries is the forest and Hrothgar s Hall. The forest was seen as a, dark, and mysterious place that was associated with the evil creatures in the book, whereas the Hall was associated with celebration and a sense of safety for the people. The Danes built Hrothgar s hall with the realization that the forest was in close proximity to their place of safety. This example illustrates that the Danes created their place within their environment. Although there are some set boundaries that humans have no control over, such as night and day, there is a large impact on how humanity creates boundaries and their place in the world. In our modern day world, there are numerous examples of how humans have pushed the limits of creating boundaries within close proximity of one another. In Andrew Blackwell s novel, Visit Sunny Chernobyl, he explores a refinery town within Texas called Port Arthur. Blackwell explains the overwhelming proximity of the refineries to the city of Port Arthur, and even gives an example of a child s playground and the immediacy of the refineries. He states, Several hundred yards beyond the playground were the storage tanks of the Motiva refinery, and beyond them the refinery itself, illustrating that humans created a refinery, associated with pollutants and darkness in our society, within ...
