Dumpster Diving Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Dumpster Diving" can prove to be a challenging endeavor,
requiring a delicate balance between addressing the unconventional nature of the topic and
maintaining a scholarly tone. The difficulty lies in navigating the fine line between presenting the
act of dumpster diving as a socio-economic commentary and avoiding the potential pitfalls of
glorifying or condemning it outright.
To begin with, researching this topic might not yield a plethora of academic sources, as dumpster
diving isn't a mainstream subject in scholarly literature. This scarcity of authoritative references
requires a diligent effort to locate credible information that supports the exploration of this
unconventional activity.
Moreover, maintaining objectivity while delving into the motivations behind dumpster diving
poses its own set of challenges. One must avoid falling into the trap of oversimplifying the
practice as an act of necessity or romanticizing it as a rebellious lifestyle choice. Striking a
nuanced and balanced perspective is crucial to capturing the complexities surrounding this
activity.
Another hurdle is addressing the potential ethical implications without passing judgment.
Dumpster diving involves scavenging discarded items, and opinions on the morality of such
actions can vary widely. Navigating through these diverse perspectives while still presenting a
coherent and well-argued essay requires a careful consideration of ethical frameworks and
cultural nuances.
Furthermore, constructing a compelling narrative that engages the reader without sensationalizing
or trivializing the subject is a constant challenge. The essay must strike a tone that encourages
critical thinking about societal norms, waste management, and economic disparities without
devolving into a mere commentary on fringe behaviors.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "Dumpster Diving" demands a thoughtful and
balanced approach. Navigating through the complexities of the subject, addressing ethical
considerations, and maintaining scholarly rigor present considerable challenges. It requires a
writer's ability to engage the audience intellectually while avoiding biases and stereotypes. For

The Global Catch Of Shrimp Species
1.Introduction
Penaeid shrimps (Family Penaeidae: Rafinesque, 1815) are the most economically
important crustaceans in the world as a primitive group of decapod (Abele, 1991;
Chan, 1998; Dall et al., 1990). The family has a world wide distribution in shallow,
inshore tropical and subtropical waters. The highest diversity of the family
members occurs in the Indo West Pacific region with about 205 species grouped
into 26 genera (Farfante and Kensley, 1997; Martin and Davis, 2001; McLaughlin et
al., 2005; Nizinski, 2003). The global catch of shrimp species is about 3.4 million tons
/year. More than half of which are caught from the Western and Northwest Central
Pacific fisheries, besides the contribution of other essential fisheries in the Indian and
in the Western Atlantic Oceans (FAO, 2014).
Shrimps remain to be the largest single product in value terms accounting about 15 %
of the internationally traded fisheries products in 2012. Moreover, shrimps are
primarily produced in developing countries, and much of this production
progressively expands in the international trade. As the economic conditions develop
in these countries, growing demand leads to high domestic consumption leading to
fewer exports. Such high demand and the subsequent overexploitation are negatively
impacting the standing stocks of shrimp which fall below the healthy standard levels.
This requires regular monitoring, assessment and management of each species to
keep tracking of the effects of such

Abstract
Learning Team A will use several research methods including text, internet and other
methods to explore the humanities and the effects and developments that the
humanities of the Early, High and Late Middle ages had on society. We have made
some very interesting findings and come up with some intriguing conclusions. The
findings are most definitely in condensed form for the simplicity of our assignment,
although if given an unbridled word count, surely we would demonstrate volumes of
text form such interesting periods.
The Early Middle Ages Before we can talk about humanities, we must first define the
word Humanities . Humanities are the investigation of human beings and their culture
and their self expression. We are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another wonderful example of Christian art during this time is the Book of Kells.
Snell (n.d.) points out, The Book of Kells is a stunningly beautiful manuscript
containing the Four Gospels. The Book of Kells was probably produced in a
monastery on the Isle of Iona, Scotland, to honor Saint Columba in the early 8th
century (Snell, n.d.). The Metropolitan Museum of Art displays other artistic finds
such as the Plaque with Saint John the Evangelist and Three Holy Women at the Holy

Germanic traditions, including those of personal valor and heroism associated with a
warring culture, are reflected in the epic poems of the Early Middle Ages. The three
most famous of these, Beowulf, The Song of the Nibelungen, and the Song of
Roland, were transmitted orally for hundreds of years before they were written down
sometime between the tenth and thirteenth centuries. (p.71)
Although this age had a brief renaissance, the Early Middle Ages was a shadow of
the great Roman Empire. The Roman Empire was not only rich in architecture, art
and literature but it held a sense of accomplishment. The Early Middle Ages
epitomizes the struggle of human beings to love and create a better world for them.
The High Middle Ages The High Middle Ages falls between the Early Middle Ages
also known as the Dark Ages and Late Middle Ages occurring during the range of the

John Wollaston Analysis
The American collection in the Art Institute has a very clear progression with each
work, the first being John Wollastons, Portrait of a Naval Officer. Wollaston had
received training in portraiture while in England, most likely from his father.
When he went to America he worked along side the Atlantic Seaboard and brought
fashionable English portraiture to the American patrons before leaving to assume
a post with the British East India Company. This portrait was an example of how
talented and sought after his wok was in America. It depicts a mid eighteenth
century naval officer in a blue uniform, white waistcoat and gold braiding. This
shows that this man is very successful adorned in fine clothing with going off to
see with a very proud and accomplished look on his face. The telescope he is
holding and the ship in the background is most likely to signify his success with his
voyages at sea. This is where the American collection begins for the pieces I ve
chosen. Portrait paintings capture the subject in the most favorable light and
showcase all there successes, with various imagery within the work.
The second piece Elanie by Toby Rosesenthal, is from the romanticism period in
America. The inspiration for this piece came from ... Show more content on

of Native Americans in the past. In a tight, very defined, darkened interior, we see
a tribal leader watching over five individuals who are all slumped over, looking
defeated as they reread there hieroglyphic history. This work captures the suffering
of the Native American people faced when America was founded, their people were
being massacred and realistically there wasn t much that could have been done. It
perfectly captures the sadness and bleakness the subjects are feeling, so much so that

Examples Of Foils In The Crucible
Essay Topic 3: Arthur Miller uses foils to provide striking contrasts between two
characters. Select at least one pair of foils and analyze specific character traits of
these persona that link to major themes in the crucible. Thou shall not suffer a
witch to live, (Exodus 22:18) was an Old Testament passage that many puritans
had put emphasis on and based the witches death penalties upon. Arthur Miller
bases his play on the hypocrisy involved in the Salem witch trials and also
expounds the fact that humans, up until now, respond emotionally out of fear. The
foils of reverend Hale to John Proctor, along with Elizabeth Proctor to Abigail
Williams, link to the major themes in The Crucible such as hypocrisy, guilt, and
vengeance. Firstly, Elizabeth Proctor is a foil to Abigail Williams because they are
both women that are in love with John Proctor. However, Elizabeth differs from
Abigail because she is kind, merciful, and honest, as opposed to Abigail who is
unforgiving, jealous, and a liar. Arthur Miller portrays Elizabeth as a character that
never does anything wrong, and that she has never lied (Pg. 116).... Show more

Abigail wants to get rid of Elizabeth, who she describes as John Proctor s sniveling
envious wife (Optional scene Pg. 158)! One can infer how Abigail is jealous and
is doing anything to steel Elizabeth s place in Proctor s bed. It reaches a degree
were Abigail is lies so much she starts to believe her lies, and stabs herself in the
stomach with a pin to blame Elizabeth for attempting to kill her. She later goes on
trying to convince Proctor that the jab your wife gave me s not healed yet (Optional
scene Pg. 155). The revenge that Abigail is seeking to find is directly related to the
theme of vengeance that is profound throughout the play. Additionally, other people
in Salem, such as the Putnam s, take advantage of the crisis to help achieve their

Mosuo Women Summary
I read the article by Schlegel and at first the women seemed very inferior to the men.
The more I read, the more I noticed that the article leaned in a different direction. It
reminded me of the Mosuo. The Hopi women seem as dominant as the Mosuo
women.
The article started out saying that When Hopi Children are born, they re assured a
place within matrilocal household and matrilineal clan (Schlegel 170). Boys... taught
to be companions and helpers (Schlegel 170). Girls, a source of continuously of
household and clan (170). ...women state that You raise up a daughter for yourself,
but you raise up a son for somebody else . Daughters remain at home, whereas sons
are sent out upon marriage to become providers...in households of other women ...

The wife ...brings her husband into her household to work under the direction of her
father and the ultimate authority of her mother (Schlegel 171). That was very
surprising to me as in the United States of America, the husband is trying to get in
cahoots with his father in law and to respect him to a stronger extent. The mother
has say, of course, but she is not the one that he generally is trying to be obedient
towards. The husband...lives in a house controlled by a female lead (Schlegel
171). The other article in Culture Counts about the Mosuo do not even have a
husband let alone do they generally live with men, which was a big difference. The
article continues on that ...young men not eager to marry (Schlegel 171). Girls
initiate marriage by making...payment for him (Schlegel 171). That was different as
in many societies the men have to make the first move, but this does show that
women are in a dominant position just as the Mosuo. Hopi women appear to be in
an enviable position when...compared to women in male dominant societies
(Schlegel 171). The only weird thing is that they are still vulnerable and need men
in some way as the article states the women ...must have a husband or a son in law
to provide for them (Schlegel 172). It stated that brothers and sisters are equals
which was refreshing because in the beginning of the article it did not sound like it at
first (Schlegel 172). They have many ceremonies that both
Managing Diversity in the Workplace Essay
There is no doubt that the business world is changing rapidly and that many factors
are also simultaneously interacting. Perhaps these factors are created by cultural
diversity.
The online dictionary source, http://en.wiktionary.org defines diversity in the social
context as a business strategy encouraging differences in order to compete in a
marketplace with a heterogeneous customer base. Diversity in the general
population, the work force and the market place give many benefits for
organizations. Global managers gain more knowledge on internal diversity in order
to maximize the efficiency of their workforce and increase profit margins for their
companies.
Diversification of the American workforce has changed the way managers ... Show

An organization is affected by cultural factors on many levels. The top
management forms the basic foundation of an organization when they set the
primary goals for that organization, the reason the organization is in business. An
example might be an American car company with the goal of producing vehicles
for the public and bringing in large profits for the shareholders. This goal is
derived in the root cultural tenant of capitalism. The United States was founded
with capitalist ideas and so American managers will have capitalist ideas. Now the
same type of company in the Soviet Union, before the end of the cold war, may
have had the goal of producing efficient military vehicles, not being concerned about
the profit margin rather the purpose of the product. This goal would have been
derived from the socialist belief of all things are for the good of the state.
As the influence of culture affects the direction of the company, it also affects the
interaction between the managers and the employees. In the example of the
American auto plant, the interaction between manager and employee was one based
on western ideas of supervision and motivation. Today these ideas are changing. As
people of other races and other ethnic groups continue to emigrate, they will bring
even more diversity and lifestyle changes to the United States.

nearly all of the food groups are accommodated in typical Dominican cuisine, as it
incorporates meat or seafood; grains, especially rice, corn, and wheat; vegetables,
such as beans and other legumes, potatoes, yuca, or plantains, and salad; dairy
products, especially milk and cheese; and fruits, such as oranges, bananas, and
mangos. However, there is heaviest consumption of starches and meats, and least of
dairy products and non starchy vegetables.
Famous dishes in the country are Rice dishes, most dishes in the Dominican
Republic are served with rice. A popular staple of the Dominican cuisine is arroz

ingredients. Another dish is Spaghetti a la Dominicana, a Spaghetti cooked with
milk, salami, peppers, onions, garlic, tomato sauce, orГ©gano, and olives. Also

Dominicans take much pride in their soups and everyone on the island claims to

Vertical Zonation and the Rocky Shore
According to Yonge (1949), the zoning of both plants and animals within the
narrow vertical limits of a rocky shore is one of the most striking features about
shore life. It is noticeable particularly where sessile organisms (such as barnacles)
occur in abundance on the boundaries of their vertical distribution, as they form a
conspicuous line (Boaden Seed, 1985). The author has also been particularly
impressed by clear zonation patterns of brown algae often to be found on rocky
shores. Precise and universal demarcation of these zones is impossible (Brehaut,
1982), but a comprehension of the vertical zonation of rocky shores is clearly ... Show

At mid shore, for example, exposure is 50 percent of the time to air, and 50 percent
to water. This area forms the eulittoral zone, and a greater number of species are
found here than in the littoral fringe. Communities found in this zone must be
tolerant of short periods of exposure to air between the tides, although they almost
always require regular submersion or at least a thorough wetting (Tait and Dipper,
1998). Species include barnacles, mussels, and other sessile forms such as oysters
(Boaden Seed, 1985). The barnacles commonly belong to such genera as Balanus,
Chthamalus, and Tetraclita. There is a strong tendency (Stephenson Stephenson,
1972) for this zone to be further divided into two or three subzones. In lower
subzones, barnacles may be obliterated or overshadowed by other sedentary forms;
but in the higher eulittoral subzones barnacles are greatest in concentration, and show
dominance. The eulittoral is bounded at the top end by the disappearance of
barnacles in any significant quantity (Stephenson Stephenson, 1972).
The lowest part of the shore is uncovered at extreme low water spring tide, never at
neap tides, and is known as the sublittoral zone. Where wave action is particularly
strong, this zone may not even be uncovered except when the lowest spring tides
coincide with calm weather. As such, this zone is exposed to the air for very short
periods, and for a very small proportion, of time. In many places, it never fully

outstanding masterpiece with devotion and passion, the Athletic Club of SГЈo Paulo

In 2006, Mendes da Rocha received the Pritzker Architecture Prize. The jury cited
his deep understanding of the poetics of space and an architecture of profound social

zones, distinctly articulated and grouped together into a unified whole. Concrete is
used for its raw and unpretentious honesty, contrasting dramatically with the highly
refined and ornamented buildings constructed in the elite Beaux Arts style. Surfaces

texture of the wooden planks used for the in situ casting forms. Brutalist building
materials also include brick, glass, steel, rough hewn stone, and gabions. Another
common theme in Brutalist designs is the exposure of the building s functions

Airplanes In The Flying Machine
Over the course of the century humans have created notable inventions in attempts
to satisfy their needs. Medicine was invented to treat and cure illnesses , but many
abuse the benefits these drugs to offer. Also , weapons were invented as a tool used
for surviving which meets along with human necessities , however, countless
individuals mishandle the valuable use of these weapons. Similarly , airplanes were
invented to provide transportation ,however, plenty of humans misuse the benefits
of these transport have to offer. Ray Bradbury wrote The Flying Machine to give a

The Jungle Analysis
Corruption, lies, adultery, politics, and death are all topics addressed in Upton
Sinclair s 1906 novel The Jungle. The book reveals the atrocities that occurred during
the early 1900 s in Chicago s cruel and disgusting meatpacking district. The Jungle
chronicles the struggle of a Lithuanian family that came to America with dreams of
making their riches and passing it on to their descendants. Analysis of the novel
reveals a recurring theme of how desperation makes people do horrible things such
as being coerced into sexual acts, working in dangerous conditions, and selling
themselves for money. Peer review by Slate s Karen Olsen critics the novel s
shortcomings and praises its high points. The tale of a poor, hopeful Lithuanian family

The Rise Of Pollution Levels
There I was in Shanghai, China, staring at the sun as if I were trying to look at a
lamp behind a curtain. The rise of pollution levels in China has intrigued the minds
of people who never even cared about the environment before. The People s Republic
of China is now the largest emitter of CO2 in the world. But of course, this a global
phenomenon: a global phenomenon that in no way started with Chinaas Alanna
Mitchell would agree to. By the end of the 19th century, the powerful duo that was
industrialization and imperialism spread industrial growth from Great Britain to
Southeast Asia. From the opium wars in the mid 19th century to the economic
reforms of 1970s, China has been incorporated into the global economy as the world s
manufacturer. And as we know, modern manufacturing is heavily reliant on fossil
fuels. This has put an immense amount of international pressure on the Chinese to
improve their environmental footprint. But sustainable development needs to start
not just with China, but with all major players in the global economy. Mitchell s
statement, the idea that the planet s future might come down to China s choices is
hard for the West to fathom (102) is not only ironic, but a dangerous idea to accept.
An historical context of China s industrialization and urbanization will show you that
Western interests in China led to its massive carbon emission. Further, the root of the
problem must be solved the way it started, with help from the West.
Effective Communication As A Health Care Professional
Communication is about more than just exchanging information. It s about
understanding the emotion and intentions behind the information. Effective
communication is how you convey a message so that it is received and understood by
someone in exactly the way you intended (L. Robinson, J. Segal, Ph. D., M. Smith.
2015). This paper looks at the requirements of effective communication as a health
care professional and the essential concepts to have as a registered nurse. Effective
communication assists with many circumstances in clinical situations. Arnold,
Boggs, Barraclough, Levett Jones and Grover have discussed that different
communication styles can be used to create stronger therapeutic relationships. Ideas
supporting this argument are the effects of establishing a strong client nurse
relationship and understanding the bridges to help construct and build a therapeutic
relationship. Effective communication benefits us to enhance our understanding of a
person. Determining the appropriate communication style to be used enables us, as a
health care professional to resolve differences, build respect and trust, and be key in
producing environments in which problem solving, creating ideas and caring can
flourish. A therapeutic relationship is professional, interpersonal alliance in which the
nurse and client join together for a defined period to achieve health related treatment
goals (Arnold and Boggs, 2011 p. 38). The authors evaluate basic communication
concepts and how
Bronfrebrenner s Ecological Systems
Many influences and interactions take part into human development. These
influences are better understood by Urie Bronfrebrenner s Ecological Systems Model.
According to this model, individuals interact with five systems: microsystem,
mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem, chronosystem. I interviewed my Aunt Betty
about her life to give me a better understanding of the Ecological Systems. This paper
will describe how these systems apply to her life. Microsystem is the first system in
the model and includes settings that a child personally interacts with and is
influenced by the most. These settings can include; family, peers, teachers, and
community. For instance, my Aunt Betty lived in a household with her parents and
six siblings.
Death And Life Of Great American Cities Essay
Sidewalks and streets, the major areas of transportation in any city, determines
many characteristics of a city such as whether people feel safe or not walking alone
at night. If the streets aren t safe, if there is a murder late at night, people will avoid
walking in that area, causing the streets to become even more unsafe. One important
lesson my parents have always impressed on me is that when I am walkingat night in
the city, always stick with the crowded streets in the main vein of the city, never the
alleyways or the shortcuts. Jane Jacobs elaborates on this particular lesson in The
Death and Life of Great American Cities by stating that while a heavier population
does not necessarily mean that a street is safer (as evidenced by the Christmas tree...

Public and private space must be clearly marked so that strangers and residents do
not have any misunderstandings about what is wrong and right. If a stranger is
vandalizing a resident s property that is right next to public property, there will be
no confusion for the resident to step up and press charges against the vandalizer.
Secondly, for there to be eyes on the street , the buildings must face the streets so
that the casual observer in the building can take notice of any events unfolding in
the streets. If the building has its blank side facing the street, there is a higher
probability that a stranger could do something on that portion of the street and then
face little to no repercussions simply because no resident was watching. Lastly,
there must be many people on the street in a continuous flow to incentivize people
to watch the streets. No one wants to watch an empty street simply because there is
nothing going on. For example, the Diag is a great people watching place since
there is almost always a stream of foot traffic crossing the Diag since it s the central

of cultures, backgrounds, and religious beliefs, holidays can be enjoyed by many.
Halloween and Easter are some of those popular holidays of the year that many
people celebrate. Americans love to dress up on both occasions and celebrate their
religion with family and friends. During Halloween and Easter, children also get the
opportunity to eat lots of candy and participate in many fun filled holiday activities. It
may seem like Halloween and Easter have a lot in common, but they are actually very
different. Although Halloween and Easter are popular holidays throughout the ...

(Villalba). While some religions honor Halloween, others honor Easter. Easter is a
holiday celebrated by Christian faith. Easter day represents the death of Jesus Christ
and his resurrection. For Christians, Easter marks the end of Lenten fasts, which is
why Easter is usually celebrated with a feast. Some Christians believe that by
following the process of fasting, baptisms, and sacraments, is their way to get into
heaven.
Halloween and Easter also differ in terms of children festivities. Halloween offers
many fun and exciting activities for children. Every year children around the world
love to go to the grocery store, or local farm and pick out their favorite pumpkin.
Children then go home and get to decorate or carve their pumpkin however they like.
They can create jack o lanterns or even funny faces out of their pumpkins. Other than
the usual trick or treating, many community buildings and schools create Halloween
fairs and events for children of all age groups. This includes hayrides, face painting,
and some spooky attractions. Some events even offer the opportunity for kids to
create their own costumes; which gives children an opportunity to express
themselves. On the other hand, Easter s activities are much different compared to
Halloween. During Easter, children get the opportunity to go on an Easter egg hunt.
Easter egg hunts involve children scrambling around on a scavenger hunt trying to
find the hidden Easter
Dual Nature In Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde
the strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde explores the duality of human nature at
length by employing a wide display of methods, techniques and characteristic traits.
The duality of the human nature is perfectly displayed in this novel through
juxtaposition, Allusion and imagery. but nothing in this text is displayed clearer than
the dual nature of the human race through the method of characterisation. Dr Henry
Jekyll is a respected yet estranged doctor who was once friends with the protagonist
of the story, a layer by the name of Gabriel John Utterson, and another accomplished
physician by the name of Dr Hastie Lanyon. Dr Jekyll is repeatedly superposed
between another named Mr Hyde throughout the story. The reader sees this perfectly
Foes of the Revolution
History records the events chronicled in Why We Can t Wait as the Civil Rights
Movement. However, if we take to heart the words of the author, Dr. Martin Luther
King Jr., we should view these events as the Civil Rights Revolution. Dr. King states,
A social movement that only changes people is merely a revolt. A movement that
changes both people and institutions is a revolution (142). Through the method of
nonviolent direct action the black citizens of the United States, specifically in
Birmingham, Alabama, achieved more in the summer of 1963 than any other time
in American history. To appreciate this revolution we must realize it battled against
three foes; the white power structure, moderates, and the church. First, the battle
against the white power structure was twofold, economic and political (49). These
forces had been in place since Reconstruction to keep the black citizen in slavery.
Economics came into play when black workers were denied jobs and promotion
due to the color of their skin, not on their skill or performance (46). They came in
the form of Jim Crow lawswhich segregated the black citizen from attending the
same schools, playing in the same parks, or even drinking water from the same
fountain to name a few (44 47). To understand how engrained these laws were
enforced we need only to learn of a United States senator being arrested because he
walked through a door marked Colored (48). Perhaps the greatest display of contempt

Richard M. Schulze And Gary Smoliak
In 1966, Richard M. Schulze and Gary Smoliak founded the Sound of Music store
which sold home and car stereo equipment in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The company
had over $1 million in revenue and made about $58,000 in profits in its first year; it
had three stores in Minnesota and became a publicly held company after 3 years.
In 1970, Richard solely owned the company since he bought out the stakes of his
partner. Later, he realized that the market was heading to saturation and the number
of his target customers was decreasing day by day. In 1983, Richard made a decision
of renaming the company as Best Buy Co., Inc. to make the store more appealing to
the customers. It was also rebranded by putting more emphasis on consumer
electronics instead
Qin Dynasty Impact
The Qin Dynasty and the Han Dynasty each have significant points throughout
history where time has felt their impact that was left. It began in 221 B.C.E, when the
Qin Dynasty was traveling around lands, defeating rivals and unifying China. Shortly
thereafter, the king of the Qin Dynasty officially created, and changed, his title to
Emperor (McKay, 184). The Emperor of the Qin Dynastywas incredibly important as
he was the individual who would create the regulations, enforce reporting
requirements, and enact penalties for poor work performance (McKay, 185). It
was also during this time that a mandated census was adopted which provided a lot
of benefits including assistance of cost estimates for public works, increased tax
revenues, and more labor force that was available for building projects. A big
advantage as well was the thousands of miles of roads that... Show more content on

This was also a very important time for the emperor. He believed there was much
slander that existed so a man by the name of Lisi burned all the negative information
that anyone had, or was out, about the Emperor (McKay, 186). When this emperor
died, he installed Terra Cotta warriors in his specialty tomb to have them protect him
into the afterlife. The Qin State finally fell apart in 210 after the death of the first
emperor and failed to make an impact after. The Han Dynasty was the other dynasty.
It was led by Emperor Gaozu (202 195 B.C.E). He was a favorite here because he
did what other leaders had not done in the past, and that was to either eliminate
laws or to amend the laws to help his people. The Government of the Han Dynasty
was supported heavily by taxes, as well as forced labor of farmers. After Emperor
Wu took over in the Han Dynasty there were many other lucrative creations such as
coin minting, land confiscation, as well as the selling off important offices and
The Sports of Fishing Essay
The Sports of Fishing
Fishing, or angling, is the sport of trying to catch fish with a rod, reel, line and
baited hooks. The sport goes back thousands of years, and it appears that fishing
techniques were already quite advanced at a very early date. In the Stone Age, hooks
made of both bone and stone were used to catch fish, but spearing, a more primitive
method, was probably just as common. An engraving from an ancient Egyptian tomb
shows that all four methods of fishing that is, with spears, nets, rods, and lines were
in use as early as 2000BC. The Ancient Greek Poet Homer, Writing in about 800BC,
also refers to the bronze hooks and horse hair lines used by anglers. A very old
fishing hook found in Britain is thought to date ... Show more content on

A reel may hold up to or more than 100 feet a monofilament line, and it enables one
to let out more line while dealing with a very large fish. Reels will come in three
different sorts: casting, open face or spinning, and a closed face. The open face
and or closed face are the most suitable for the beginners. When choosing a reel one
should remember that if you are left handed you should buy a right handed wind
reel and vice versa (Jarman, 42). Today the artificial lure is the bait that is used
worldwide; ranging from as small as 1/8 inch long and 1/90 of an ounce in weight,
or as large as 14 inches and weighing up to 4 ounces. In the world of lures, there are
thousands placed into three different groups spinners, spoons, and plugs. Spinners
are torpedo shaped lures that come in a multitude of colors, that spin as they are
pulled through the water. Spoons are just that, handleless metal spoons that wobble
as they dart through the water imitating the movement of small fish. Plugs are
imitation plastic fish that vary in size and shape. When choosing a plug one needs
to keep in mind that the one with the most color and glamour may not be the one
that attaches and catches the fish (Jarman, 48). Fishing with plugs is the most fun
from my experiences, because watching the lure swim in the water is just so cool.
Now another type of bait is the live bait; it uses the common hook along with worms,
minnows, and or maggots. These may be stored in the refrigerator for

Title: Study of Evolution of Mitochondria in different species of plants and Animals.
ID#:04635
Introduction: The mitochondria is a double membrane organelle that is found in
all eukaryotic organisms. There is some evidence that proves some eukaryotes lack
mitochondria, but there is no true evidence about complete lack of mitochondria in
the organisms. Mitochondria is known as a power house of the living body cell.
They store energy in the cell and release it as needed. Every structure in
Mitochondria have their own specific roles which helps in storing energy (See
Figure 1 for details). Evidence shows that mitochondria evolved from primitive
bacteria. Did mitochondria evolve from primary bacteria or were they the new
adaptation in the plants and animals? In this paper we are going to see how
Mitochondrion have been evolved in different species and what methods have been
used to prove that evolution. There is still debate between scientists about whether
mitochondrion really evolved from bacteria or if it was present in the cells before
bacteria were present.
Yang et al. [1] says that Mitochondria s cytochromes c (which is a mitochondrial
intermembrane protein that is loosely attached to the inner membrane of
mitochondrial membrane) is relatively close to the bacterial medium subunit in
sequence of cytochrome. Cytochrome c is

Essay On Vietnamese Cuisine
What is Vietnamese Cuisine: Origin and Evolution If a Vietnamese cook is asked
where his cuisine originated from, he might, reply, from his ancestors. The cuisine
has evolved by the contribution of various rulers, invaders and indigenous peoples
each one adding their own nuances to create a deliciously simple cuisine. The
Chinese made the first dramatic impact on its cuisine, teaching them Buddhism with
its inherent vegetarian beliefs and the art of chopsticks, use of noodles, stir frying in
oil, tofu, soy sauce and cultivation of rice. India introduced Vietnam to spices. The
Mongol tribesmen brought with them their love of beef, which resulted in the
creation of Vietnamese soup, Pho. Explorers from Spain brought foods from the New
World, including chillies and potatoes. Later, the French passed on their techniques of
sautГ©ing and simmering for stock making, and introduced onion, coffee, beer, ice
cream and baguettes. From Thailand they took basil, lemon grass and shrimp paste
and combined them with Indian spices. Cambodia introduced Vietnam to coconut

Accurate Bookkeeping
In a formal probate process, accurate bookkeeping is crucial. As an executor, you
must provide a final accounting of the estate and have it approved by all the
beneficiaries in order to close the estate. Since, in some states, the formal probate
process can take a year or more to close an estate, sloppy bookkeepingcan hold up the
final accounting stage if a discrepancy occurs. Therefore, to avoid holdups, you must
develop a reliable bookkeeping system.
How to Set Up an Accurate Bookkeeping System
Develop a bookkeeping system that makes sense to you and use technology, if
possible. There are no rules in how to set up a bookkeeping system but make sure the
bookkeeping system you create has the following components:
Track the transactions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, keep an eye out for transactions that are combined. Here are a couple
common transactions that could trip up any bookkeeping system:
A sale of a home. Usually, the proceeds you receive from a sale of a home has the
expenses of the sale deducted from the check. It s perfectly normal to deposit that
check into the estate account without recording the expenses. So, the income side of
the transaction will be correct, but you will be missing expenses that will cause a
discrepancy in the final accounting. Make sure you enter the expenses that were
deducted from the proceeds of the sale into the manual record and the automated
record.
Completing a deposit of multiple checks on one deposit slip. When you deposit
multiple checks on one deposit slip you will receive a receipt for the total of all
those checks. In the final accounting, each type of income is reported separately.
So, if you deposit multiple checks consisting of a rent check, dividend check, and a
check you received from closing an account, that s three separate categories of
income in the final accounting. You must record each check separately either in
your journal or the manual record so you will have a reference as to what income
type you received for each check. This will avoid confusion in the final

role in the Russian military exemplified the role of a man. Pechorin knew the
military style well, since he partook that role. That new suffering created within me a

Pechorin s sense of manhood and its importance. Lermontov arrays himself through

What Are The Stereotypes Of White Males
When people hear the word stereotype, they usually think of black people,
Mexicans, Native Americans, women, and other races. Most people do not think
there could be a stereotype against white males. People usually think that it would be
the white male that would stereotype other races and not be stereotyped themselves.
The truth is that white males get stereotyped just as much, if not more, as other
races. White males have been categorized as hateful, major racists, skinheads, and
over privileged. In today s society, a white male can t criticize any other racewithout
fear of being called a hater or a racist . One of the biggest forms of racismtowards the
white male is what the government calls Affirmative Action. Affirmative... Show

It means that a white male could have a better interview and be better qualified for
a job, but a minority would still get the job just so the business could reach the
quota. Affirmative Action is just not limited to businesses, it also applies to
colleges. Many colleges say right on their application that they have a diverse
student body. This stereotype comes from many years ago when there was slavery,
and white males were mean to certain races. Other races, specifically African
Americans and Native Americans, learned what the whites did to their great great
grandparents and feel anger towards the whites and think that even this generation
of whites can be racists. A lot of this stereotype also comes from the Holocaust. The
Germans, who were white males, wanted to get rid of all other races. They had no
value for human life, as they killed millions of people just to cleanse the earth of
other races. I can see how this would give other races a bad impression of white
males. The truth is this did not include all of the white male population, and it
happened over a generation ago. Our values have vastly changed since then, and I
think that the majority of white males really want to get along with other races.
This stereotype, like all stereotypes, has a negative effect on everyone involved.
White males will always be haunted by and blamed for what their ancestors did, and
other races will prosecute them for it. Hate for whites by black
Self Disclosure Is Vital For Intimate Relationships
Self disclosure is the process of deliberately revealing information about oneself
that is significant and would not be normally known to others. Self disclosing is
vital for intimate relationships, and it can strengthen bonds and provide liberating
relief. People, however, fear rejection so any type of personal information shared
can be difficult. The amount of self disclosure depends on the importance of the
relationship, the intimacy of the relationship and if the risk of disclosing is worth
the end result. During the week, a friend of mine and I had a deep conversation
about the evolution of our opinions regarding religion. We were both concerned
with the reaction from our families because what they believe in is so engrained in
their mind, that any diversion from it would not be taken well. Because of this, the
subject was and still is a very personal subject for me. Later that night I spoke with
Mano about the discussion my friend and I had, seeking more self validation that I
was not the only one who felt this way. However, he barely showed any interest in
the subject, and made a joke of it. I was irritated but decided not to go any further
because, if nothing else, I am a peacekeeper. Also, when people dismiss my thoughts,
I take that as a sign that they do not care about them, so I keep quiet about it.

The Virtual Private Network System
Introduction A virtual private network (VPN) is a system that utilizes public
telecommunication infrastructure, such as the Internet, to offer remote offices or
single users with safe access to their institution s network ( Collins, Keeley
Waye,2000). A virtual private network can be compared to an expensive system of
held or rented lines that can only be utilized by a single organization. The aim of a
VPN is to offer the institution with similar capabilities, but at very low costs
(Hulsebosch,Belmont Manke ,2011). A VPN functions by using the allocated public
infrastructure while retaining confidentiality through safety processes and

In effect, the protocols, by encrypting data at the dispatching end and decrypting it
at the receiving end, send the data via a tunnel that cannot be accessed by data that
is not appropriately encrypted. An added degree of safety involves encrypting both
the data and the originating and receiving system addresses.A VPN (Virtual Private

computer system. VPNs have been utilized for years, but they have become stronger
in recent years. They are reasonable and

This brings us to the question, do people prefer happy endings or sad endings and
why?
Michelle likes her books (and movies) to have a more realistic attitude towards
happiness and feel that authors and movie directors alike could use their influence
to help change our collective perception of just what it means to be happy (blog).
She also believes that too many fairy tale endings skew our perception of reality so
that we expect our own fairy tale endings (blog). So, if we have more realistic
endings then we would change the perception of what it really means to be joyful
and we wouldn t be so hopeless all the time because we would know the true meaning
of happiness.

First World War Vs Progressive War

While it is a true that the United States entered the war toward the end of the
Progressive era, I do not believe WWI can be regarded as a Progressive conflict.
While in general, the United States saw not need to enter the war and wanted to stay
neutral. In addition, a lot of Progressives saw no reason to enter the war. They
thought that getting involved in the war would violate the spirit of the progressive
reform movement (Divine, Breen Williams 2013, p. 569). Progressives thought that
greed was the source of the war. They felt that manufacturers of ammunition,

talking points that will be discussed for each company, starting with a brief

which choice would be best for the business. The Apache Hadoop open source
program that provides a layer of software that can turn a grid of servers into a single
unit has become known as NoSQL, or Not Only SQLdatabase. It provides a parallel
storage and processing framework to run MapReduce, an application module that
runs in two phases, first mapping data then reducing or transforming it. Using the
HDFS or Hadoop Distributed File System, huge data sets are spread across servers,
thus enabling programmers to write application modules and run them in parallel on
the same cluster that stores the data, thus using the power and capacity of all the
CPUs and hard drives. The advantage of Hadoop is that it processes large amounts of
data in seconds, one

wishes. When Biff realized that Willy was not the great man that he thought he
was, his dreams became nothing to him, as had his father. And so, Biff became a
drifter, living only on a day to day basis. Lastly, Biff is the only character who
achieves any real growth in the play. Throughout the play Linda has remained
static, always steadfastly supporting Willy, and believing he is incapable of flaw.
At Willy s funeral, Happy says, quot;I m gonna show you and everybody else that
Willy Loman did not die in vain. He had a good dream. It s the only dream you can

play. Therefore, Biff s role in quot;Death of a Salesman quot; is important because he
is the focus of Willy s attention and distress, his own conflict is
The Female Body And Land Art
A prominent Cuban born artist, Ana Mendieta, has partnered the female body with
nature to explore her own cultural and physical displacement, and through her
incorporation of performance, body and land art has attracted numerous
interpretations and historical studies. Mendieta was exiled from her homeland in
the 1960s, moving to the USA. This displacement from her homeland and culture
played a large part in informing her work. Mendieta repeatedly proclaimed, I am
between two cultures (Mendieta in Barreras del Rio) . In her search for identity
Mendieta supported feminist ideas which in turn promoted feminine discourse. I
believe that Mendieta s intention was to empower women through a shared
experience and the heritage of an ancient matriarchal culture. The Silueta Series
which incorporated earth works, natural materials and her own body, comprised of
over one hundred photographs and short films from 1973 to 1980 that documented
Mendieta s ephemeral interventions between herself and the land. Art Historian
Guy Brett states that Silueta is her great contribution to art (Brett, 2004:186) .
Mendieta created imprints of her body in nature, leaving a silhouette or a trace.

The Running Dream Wentdelin Van Daanen Analysis
There s no such thing as easy. Not anymore (Van Draanen 46). The Running Dream
by Wendelin Van Draanen is a story about Jessica Carlisle, a high school track star
for Liberty High. After Jessica s personal record receiving race, her team s bus was
hit and the lower half of Jessica s right leg had to be amputated. Van Draanen s story
teaches readers the importance of perseverance. The Running Dreamhas five separate
parts, The Finish Line , Headwind , Straightaway , Adjusting the Blocks , and
Starting Line . The titles of each part are named after separate sections of a race,
but backwards. Each part represents not only a section of a race but also section in
Jessica s journey. In part one, The Finish Line , Jessica s perseverance was... Show

Everything that happened to Jessica in the past six months had led up to that
moment for her. Once she started running again, she did not want to stop. Sherlock
and I run the whole five mile loop over Aggery Bridge every morning. When I
wake up tired, I remind myself how long I ve waited to be able to run again, and it
gets me up, (Van Draanen 282). Even with all the work that Jessica had gone
through to get to where she was, she still wanted to do more. Her friends Rosa was
fascinated by the thought of crossing the finish line. Since she had been in a
wheelchair her entire life, she never had the chance. Jessica decided that that was
going to change. Even though she had only been running for a month on her
prosthetic, Jessica began training for her town s annual 10 mile race. Jessica
decided that she was going to help Rosa cross her finish line by actually pushing
her across it. Jessica put in so much work to be able to achieve what seemed to be
such a ridiculous goal. She ran everyday pushing around a wheelchair filled potting
soil, lifted weights, and she began eating a protein filled diet to build her muscle.
Jessica was so determined to do this for Rosa, even though she was disabled
herself. The morning of the race was quite exciting, both for Jessica and Rosa. One
minute! the announcer calls. My heart speeds up. I feel suddenly light headed.
And then there s the pop of the starting gun. It s time, (Van Draanen 323). During
the race, it seemed as if Jessica was reminiscing the difficult journey she endured.
She thought back on the last eight months of her life, and realized how she got
through it. One by one by one by one. That s how I got through losing my leg.
Minute by minute by minute by minute. Hour by hour by hour by hour. Day by day
by day by day, (Van Draanen 328). Even though Jessica was completely spent by the
end of the race, she could not have
Crete Battle Essay
What caused the battle?
The introduction of aircraft to the war gave countries the abilities to do things never
thought possible. Sending paratroopers to the ground from the sky, and high
accuracy target bombing were only a couple of things that the introduction of
aircraft brought. However, in order to use these aircraft, a place for takeoff and
landing was a necessity. This is where the island of Crete, in Greece, had an
advantage. As Crete was the largest of the islands in the Mediterranean, it would be
the perfect location for raids into the Balkans and Southern Europe, along with being
a base for tactical air support in Greece and the Balkans. The harbor was also the
largest in the Mediterranean, so it would be ideal for Naval base operations. If
Crete were to fall into the hands of the Germans, it could be used for raids into Egypt
and Palestine, used as a base in the eastern Mediterranean, used to prevent the British
from taking advantage of the Balkans, to support operations in North Africa, ... Show

Greece needed to be invaded by Italy before the British were able to take advantage
of Crete, so the Royal Navy had prepared plans for a Base Defense Organisation to
move onto the island as soon as it became available (source 3). However, when the
opportunity for this arrived, there was such a shortage of troops and equipment due
to other battles being carried out in the Middle East, they began the battle with a
great disadvantage. However, they did have some time to prepare as the assault was
delayed by about week due to a shortage of supplies in Greece for the Germans

Comparing Two Newspaper Article Analysis
The reporting and presentation of the same news incident in different newspapers are
very different. This essay will analyze the articles about the association between
concussion and suicidal risk. The Toronto Star and The Globe and Mail present the
same story with several differences between them. Most importantly, we will further
analyze some implications of these differences, namely in the appearance, language,
and the content.
Firstly, we will analyze the differences in the appearance of these two newspaper
articles, namely The Globe and Mail Concussion raise suicide risk, study says and

Toronto Star presents Dr. Donald Redelmeier as an Internal medicine specialist and
senior scientist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto . His research is
well supported by Dr. Anthony Phillips, scientific director of neurosciences for the
Canadian Institutes of Health Research. The data in Toronto Star are more numeric
for example; weekend injuries accounted four times the population norm in
comparing to three times the population norm of the weekday injuries. This gives
the authenticity of the statistical data. In addition, The Toronto Star mentions both
men and women were equally affected by suicide and, about 80 per cent patients
had seen doctors in the month previous to suicide. The Toronto Star article
concludes the story focusing the importance of the awareness program to both
public health and practicing physicians. On the other hand, The Globe and Mail
introduce Dr. Donald Redelmeier as a senior author and senior core scientist at
Toronto s Institute for Clinical Evaluative sciences . The Globe and Mail discuss
another research by Dr. Gabriela Ilie who relates the concussion to a number of the
serious problem including an increased risk of suicide. In contrast, to the Toronto
Star, the Globe and Mail state more than half of the individuals committed suicide
after concussion were a man and, half of those who committed suicide had seen a
doctor in the last week before the suicide. Towards the

Peng resisted Mao s attempts to develop a personality cult throughout the 1950s;
and, when Mao s economic policies associated with the Great Leap Forward caused
a nationwide famine, Peng became critical of Mao s leadership. The rivalry between
Peng and Mao culminated in an open confrontation between the two at the 1959
Lushan Conference. Mao won this confrontation, labeled Peng as a leader of an anti
Party clique , and purged Peng from all influential positions for the rest of his life.
Peng lived in virtual obscurity until 1965, when the reformers Liu Shaoqi and Deng
Xiaoping supported Peng s limited return to government, developing military
industries in Southwest China. In 1966, following the advent of the Cultural
Revolution, Peng was arrested by Red Guards. From 1966 1970, radical factions
within the Communist Party, led by Lin Biao and Mao s wife, Jiang Qing, singled
out Peng for national persecution, and Peng was publicly humiliated in numerous
large scale struggle sessions and subjected to physical and psychological torture in
organized efforts to force Peng to confess his crimes against Mao Zedong and the
Communist Party. In 1970 Peng was formally tried and sentenced to life
imprisonment, and he died in prison in 1974. After Mao died in 1976, Peng s old
ally, Deng Xiaoping, emerged as China s paramount leader. Deng led an effort to
formally rehabilitate people who had been unjustly persecuted during the Cultural
Revolution, and Peng was
Tiresias In Oedipus
Both topics of Tiresias being accused as blind by Oedipus (when he is in fact the
blind one in the scenario placed within the play) and Jocasta being blind to the fact
that the prophecy foretold to her came true coalesce in regards to reversal of binary
in numerous processes, especially in regards to both having the motif of blindness vs
sight, and ignorance vs knowing not to mention disrespect of the Gods as a whole,
something very fundamental to Greek culture at the time. What is happening here in
regards to binary within the play as a whole is that such examples explain the central
theme at work, the binary of total omniscienceand all knowingness of the gods vs the
folly and ignorance of humankind as a whole. Such an example of this binary in
action is in the case of Tiresias, representing the concept of the all knowing God
within a form more palatable to the decidedly ignorant human, which is Oedipus. He
brings up legitimate concerns over Oedipus not regarding the actual servant of
Apollo, and therefore his interpreter seriously I am not your slave. I serve Apollo
(467) is but one of the claims Tiresias spread forth against Oedipus as he continues
to not regard his claims. The refusal of Oedipus to look within himself or the gods is
why Thebes is in chaos in its own right. Oedipus is the hero of the story, technically
but he is arrogant enough to refuse all attempts of understanding the situation despite
the god nearly literally throwing proof of his guilt at him.
Bufo Toxin Properties
MEDICINAL PROPERTIES
Many researches and studies revealed that Bufo toxin exhibits medicinal properties.
Past researches states that bufo toxin exhibits cardiotonic and anti arrhythmic activity
and other heart diseses (Clarke, 1997). It shows a beneficial effect on congestive
heart failure models in rabbits due to its cardiotonic property. Many insulinotropic
peptides have been isolated from different toad and frog skins. Insulin releasing
peptides (peaks 21, 22, 23, 24, 25) purified by reverse phase HPLC from skin
secretion of the toad. The result shows that it significantly increases the insulin
release by glucose responsive BRIN BD11 cells compared to glucose alone. This
proves that bufo toxin exhibits antidiabetic activity. Another study verifies that it has
immunomodulatory activity because the bufo toxin have the ability of activating the
proliferation of lymphocyte, specifically it increases the IL 2 and IL 12 level in the
supernatant of spleen cell culture. Aside from that, it increases the natural killer
activity of C3H/HeN mice. Frog skin secretions conatin certain compounds having
strong antiviral properties. Brevenin1, a frog skin defensive peptide possesses potent

The Legacy Of The Jim Crow Era
Phil Robertson the patriarch of Duck Dynasty has little to no knowledge about the
events that happen in the Jim Crow era. To see how wrong he is lets take a look at
the Jim Crow era. First Jim Crow was the name of the racial class method which
operated mainly, but not purely in the south, between eighteen seventy seven and
the nineteen sixty. Jim Crow was more than a series of severe anti black laws. It
was a way of life to african americans. Under Jim Crow, African Americans were
relegated to the status of second class citizens. Jim Crow represented the
legitimization of anti black racism. Many Christian ministers and theologians taught
that caucasian were the Chosen people, african americans were cursed to be servants,
and God... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sexual relations between african americans and caucasian would produce a bastard
race which would destroy The United States, treating african americans as equals
would encourage interracial sexual unions, any activity which suggested social
equality encouraged interracial sexual relations; if necessary, violence must be used
to keep african americans at the bottom of the racial hierarchy.
Black people where not treated as equal and this continued because the Jim Crow
etiquette operated in conjunction with Jim Crow laws . People like Phil Robertson did
not see that the Jim Crow laws where mainly there to excluded african americans
from public transport and amenities, juries, jobs and school districts . When they
passed the 13, 14, and 15th Amendments, the Constitution had granted african
americans the same legal protections as caucasian. However, after eighteen seventy
seven, and the election of Republican Rutherford B. Hayes, southern and border
states began restricting the liberties of african americans. Unfortunately for african
americans, the Supreme Court helped undermine the Constitutional protections of
african americans with the infamous Plessy v Ferguson case, which legitimized Jim
Crow laws and the Jim Crow way of life.
helmet law Essay
Who are Relmets Really Protecting?
The debate over whether or not to wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle has
been hot topic since the helmet law went into effect in California in 1992. It seems
obvious that wearing a helmet would help protect you in a motorcycle accident.
Many legislatures agree. In fact, nineteen states have a mandatory helmet law for all
motorcycle riders. Twenty seven states have a law for those under a set age, three of
which require additional insurance for those of age who choose not to wear a helmet.
That leaves only four states with absolutely no helmet laws. Despite these facts,
helmets are a superficial means of safety at realistic speeds. Yet because this is a
public policy issue that is not just about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Insurance companies are in the business of making money. It s the opinion of the
insurance companies that if a rider wears a helmet, he or she is safer and less likely to
suffer serious injuries in an accident. Fewer injuries equal fewer claims and more
profit for the company. It s not very hard to see why insurance companies are
supportive of the helmet law.
My own opinion in regards to support of the helmet law is this: very little is
presented by major medical research that would indicate that one is safer on a
motorcycle wearing a helmet during an accident. Most research states that a helmet is
only successful from preventing serious injury while driving less than 15 mph (DOT
Helmet test, 1999). Most accidents on a motorcycle occur at a higher rate of speed
making the helmet useless. In fact, accidents involving helmeted riders often result in
serious neck trauma even when the helmet doesn t come in contact with any foreign
objects.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) web site lists that
there were a total of 323 motorcycle fatalities in California in the year 2002 (DOT
California, 2002. Of those 323, 274 were wearing a helmet, 45 riders were not. Not
the type of numbers that would make you strap on a helmet. Wearing a helmet often
times provides a false sense of security. The risk of injury and even death is very
high while riding a motorcycle. The NHTSA also points out that the majority
Through The Nose By Frances Killea Summary
In the article Through the Nose by Frances Killea it talks about the way that dogs
can learn to smell in many diffrent ways. In the article it tells about the many
diffrent ways that a dog uses his sence of smell. For example, a dog will use a
smell to tell who is their enemy or who their owner is and it can also tell the moods
of other dogs through a smell. A dogs smelling receptors are a lot more sensitive
than a humans so they can smell many more kinds of smells. Some dogs are used
to help try to find peole when they went missing and on search and rescue missions,
so if a dog owner went out for a walk and dissapeared then his dog would be able to
help find him through many diffrent methods. If someone went missing a dog can
pick of the traces of their scent that was left behind in the woods. A dog can smell
things alot more strongly than a human can and pick up smells that we dont know
about. When explaining this concept, the author states, Their powerful senseof smell
can pick up scents that we don t even know exist, and a large portion of a dog s
brain is dedicated to interpreting what those scents mean (Killea par. 3). This shows
that alot more of a dogs brain is set aside to help them explain to themselves what the
smells that they are smelling mean. They can understand alot more things because of
this and are able to help the search by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

find certain objects with the scent of their owner and go the way in which they

Dumpster Diving Essay.pdf

  • 1. Dumpster Diving Essay Crafting an essay on the subject of "Dumpster Diving" can prove to be a challenging endeavor, requiring a delicate balance between addressing the unconventional nature of the topic and maintaining a scholarly tone. The difficulty lies in navigating the fine line between presenting the act of dumpster diving as a socio-economic commentary and avoiding the potential pitfalls of glorifying or condemning it outright. To begin with, researching this topic might not yield a plethora of academic sources, as dumpster diving isn't a mainstream subject in scholarly literature. This scarcity of authoritative references requires a diligent effort to locate credible information that supports the exploration of this unconventional activity. Moreover, maintaining objectivity while delving into the motivations behind dumpster diving poses its own set of challenges. One must avoid falling into the trap of oversimplifying the practice as an act of necessity or romanticizing it as a rebellious lifestyle choice. Striking a nuanced and balanced perspective is crucial to capturing the complexities surrounding this activity. Another hurdle is addressing the potential ethical implications without passing judgment. Dumpster diving involves scavenging discarded items, and opinions on the morality of such actions can vary widely. Navigating through these diverse perspectives while still presenting a coherent and well-argued essay requires a careful consideration of ethical frameworks and cultural nuances. Furthermore, constructing a compelling narrative that engages the reader without sensationalizing or trivializing the subject is a constant challenge. The essay must strike a tone that encourages critical thinking about societal norms, waste management, and economic disparities without devolving into a mere commentary on fringe behaviors. In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "Dumpster Diving" demands a thoughtful and balanced approach. Navigating through the complexities of the subject, addressing ethical considerations, and maintaining scholarly rigor present considerable challenges. It requires a writer's ability to engage the audience intellectually while avoiding biases and stereotypes. For those seeking assistance with essays on this or similar topics, professional writing services like HelpWriting.net can provide valuable support in navigating the intricacies of unconventional subjects. • 2. The Global Catch Of Shrimp Species 1.Introduction Penaeid shrimps (Family Penaeidae: Rafinesque, 1815) are the most economically important crustaceans in the world as a primitive group of decapod (Abele, 1991; Chan, 1998; Dall et al., 1990). The family has a world wide distribution in shallow, inshore tropical and subtropical waters. The highest diversity of the family members occurs in the Indo West Pacific region with about 205 species grouped into 26 genera (Farfante and Kensley, 1997; Martin and Davis, 2001; McLaughlin et al., 2005; Nizinski, 2003). The global catch of shrimp species is about 3.4 million tons /year. More than half of which are caught from the Western and Northwest Central Pacific fisheries, besides the contribution of other essential fisheries in the Indian and in the Western Atlantic Oceans (FAO, 2014). Shrimps remain to be the largest single product in value terms accounting about 15 % of the internationally traded fisheries products in 2012. Moreover, shrimps are primarily produced in developing countries, and much of this production progressively expands in the international trade. As the economic conditions develop in these countries, growing demand leads to high domestic consumption leading to fewer exports. Such high demand and the subsequent overexploitation are negatively impacting the standing stocks of shrimp which fall below the healthy standard levels. This requires regular monitoring, assessment and management of each species to keep tracking of the effects of such
  • 3. Essay about Humanities in the Early, High and Late Middle... Abstract Learning Team A will use several research methods including text, internet and other methods to explore the humanities and the effects and developments that the humanities of the Early, High and Late Middle ages had on society. We have made some very interesting findings and come up with some intriguing conclusions. The findings are most definitely in condensed form for the simplicity of our assignment, although if given an unbridled word count, surely we would demonstrate volumes of text form such interesting periods. The Early Middle Ages Before we can talk about humanities, we must first define the word Humanities . Humanities are the investigation of human beings and their culture and their self expression. Snell (n.d.) points out, The Book of Kells is a stunningly beautiful manuscript containing the Four Gospels. The Book of Kells was probably produced in a monastery on the Isle of Iona, Scotland, to honor Saint Columba in the early 8th century (Snell, n.d.). The Metropolitan Museum of Art displays other artistic finds such as the Plaque with Saint John the Evangelist and Three Holy Women at the Holy Sepulcher. Fiero (2002) states Germanic traditions, including those of personal valor and heroism associated with a warring culture, are reflected in the epic poems of the Early Middle Ages. The three most famous of these, Beowulf, The Song of the Nibelungen, and the Song of Roland, were transmitted orally for hundreds of years before they were written down sometime between the tenth and thirteenth centuries. (p.71) Although this age had a brief renaissance, the Early Middle Ages was a shadow of the great Roman Empire. The Roman Empire was not only rich in architecture, art and literature but it held a sense of accomplishment. The Early Middle Ages epitomizes the struggle of human beings to love and create a better world for them. The High Middle Ages The High Middle Ages falls between the Early Middle Ages also known as the Dark Ages and Late Middle Ages occurring during the range of the 10th, 11th, 12th and the 13th centuries
  • 4. John Wollaston Analysis The American collection in the Art Institute has a very clear progression with each work, the first being John Wollastons, Portrait of a Naval Officer. Wollaston had received training in portraiture while in England, most likely from his father. When he went to America he worked along side the Atlantic Seaboard and brought fashionable English portraiture to the American patrons before leaving to assume a post with the British East India Company. This portrait was an example of how talented and sought after his wok was in America. It depicts a mid eighteenth century naval officer in a blue uniform, white waistcoat and gold braiding. This shows that this man is very successful adorned in fine clothing with going off to see with a very proud and accomplished look on his face. The telescope he is holding and the ship in the background is most likely to signify his success with his voyages at sea. This is where the American collection begins for the pieces I ve chosen. • 5. Examples Of Foils In The Crucible Essay Topic 3: Arthur Miller uses foils to provide striking contrasts between two characters. Select at least one pair of foils and analyze specific character traits of these persona that link to major themes in the crucible. Thou shall not suffer a witch to live, (Exodus 22:18) was an Old Testament passage that many puritans had put emphasis on and based the witches death penalties upon. Arthur Miller bases his play on the hypocrisy involved in the Salem witch trials and also expounds the fact that humans, up until now, respond emotionally out of fear. The foils of reverend Hale to John Proctor, along with Elizabeth Proctor to Abigail Williams, link to the major themes in The Crucible such as hypocrisy, guilt, and vengeance. Firstly, Elizabeth Proctor is a foil to Abigail Williams because they are both women that are in love with John Proctor. However, Elizabeth differs from Abigail because she is kind, merciful, and honest, as opposed to Abigail who is unforgiving, jealous, and a liar. Arthur Miller portrays Elizabeth as a character that never does anything wrong, and that she has never lied (Pg. 116).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She later goes on trying to convince Proctor that the jab your wife gave me s not healed yet (Optional scene Pg. 155). The revenge that Abigail is seeking to find is directly related to the theme of vengeance that is profound throughout the play. • 7. Mosuo Women Summary I read the article by Schlegel and at first the women seemed very inferior to the men. The more I read, the more I noticed that the article leaned in a different direction. It reminded me of the Mosuo. The Hopi women seem as dominant as the Mosuo women. The article started out saying that When Hopi Children are born, they re assured a place within matrilocal household and matrilineal clan (Schlegel 170). Boys... taught to be companions and helpers (Schlegel 170). Girls, a source of continuously of household and clan (170). ...women state that You raise up a daughter for yourself, but you raise up a son for somebody else . The wife ...brings her husband into her household to work under the direction of her father and the ultimate authority of her mother (Schlegel 171). That was very surprising to me as in the United States of America, the husband is trying to get in cahoots with his father in law and to respect him to a stronger extent. The mother has say, of course, but she is not the one that he generally is trying to be obedient towards. The husband...lives in a house controlled by a female lead (Schlegel 171). The other article in Culture Counts about the Mosuo do not even have a husband let alone do they generally live with men, which was a big difference. The article continues on that ...young men not eager to marry (Schlegel 171). Girls initiate marriage by making...payment for him (Schlegel 171). The only weird thing is that they are still vulnerable and need men in some way as the article states the women ...must have a husband or a son in law to provide for them (Schlegel 172). Perhaps these factors are created by cultural diversity. The online dictionary source, http://en.wiktionary.org defines diversity in the social context as a business strategy encouraging differences in order to compete in a marketplace with a heterogeneous customer base. The top management forms the basic foundation of an organization when they set the primary goals for that organization, the reason the organization is in business. An example might be an American car company with the goal of producing vehicles for the public and bringing in large profits for the shareholders. This goal is derived in the root cultural tenant of capitalism. The United States was founded with capitalist ideas and so American managers will have capitalist ideas. Now the same type of company in the Soviet Union, before the end of the cold war, may have had the goal of producing efficient military vehicles, not being concerned about the profit margin rather the purpose of the product. This goal would have been derived from the socialist belief of all things are for the good of the state. As the influence of culture affects the direction of the company, it also affects the interaction between the managers and the employees. In the example of the American auto plant, the interaction between manager and employee was one based on western ideas of supervision and motivation. Today these ideas are changing. As people of other races and other ethnic groups continue to emigrate, they will bring even more diversity and lifestyle changes to the United States. Three factors have

Vertical Zonation and the Rocky Shore Student Number: 500890847 Candidate Number: 14822 Vertical Zonation and the Rocky Shore According to Yonge (1949), the zoning of both plants and animals within the narrow vertical limits of a rocky shore is one of the most striking features about shore life. It is noticeable particularly where sessile organisms (such as barnacles) occur in abundance on the boundaries of their vertical distribution, as they form a conspicuous line (Boaden Seed, 1985). At mid shore, for example, exposure is 50 percent of the time to air, and 50 percent to water. This area forms the eulittoral zone, and a greater number of species are found here than in the littoral fringe. Communities found in this zone must be tolerant of short periods of exposure to air between the tides, although they almost always require regular submersion or at least a thorough wetting (Tait and Dipper, 1998). Species include barnacles, mussels, and other sessile forms such as oysters (Boaden Seed, 1985). The barnacles commonly belong to such genera as Balanus, Chthamalus, and Tetraclita. There is a strong tendency (Stephenson Stephenson, 1972) for this zone to be further divided into two or three subzones. In lower subzones, barnacles may be obliterated or overshadowed by other sedentary forms; but in the higher eulittoral subzones barnacles are greatest in concentration, and show dominance. The eulittoral is bounded at the top end by the disappearance of barnacles in any significant quantity (Stephenson Stephenson, 1972). The lowest part of the shore is uncovered at extreme low water spring tide, never at neap tides, and is known as the sublittoral zone. Where wave action is particularly strong, this zone may not even be uncovered except when the lowest spring tides coincide with calm weather. As such, this zone is exposed to the air for very short periods, and for a very small proportion, of time. In many places, it never fully

  • 15. The Rise Of Pollution Levels There I was in Shanghai, China, staring at the sun as if I were trying to look at a lamp behind a curtain. The rise of pollution levels in China has intrigued the minds of people who never even cared about the environment before. The People s Republic of China is now the largest emitter of CO2 in the world. But of course, this a global phenomenon: a global phenomenon that in no way started with Chinaas Alanna Mitchell would agree to. By the end of the 19th century, the powerful duo that was industrialization and imperialism spread industrial growth from Great Britain to Southeast Asia. From the opium wars in the mid 19th century to the economic reforms of 1970s, China has been incorporated into the global economy as the world s manufacturer. And as we know, modern manufacturing is heavily reliant on fossil fuels. This has put an immense amount of international pressure on the Chinese to improve their environmental footprint. But sustainable development needs to start not just with China, but with all major players in the global economy. Mitchell s statement, the idea that the planet s future might come down to China s choices is hard for the West to fathom (102) is not only ironic, but a dangerous idea to accept. An historical context of China s industrialization and urbanization will show you that Western interests in China led to its massive carbon emission. Further, the root of the problem must be solved the way it started, with help from the West.

Effective communication is how you convey a message so that it is received and understood by someone in exactly the way you intended (L. Robinson, J. Segal, Ph. D., M. Smith. 2015). This paper looks at the requirements of effective communication as a health care professional and the essential concepts to have as a registered nurse. Effective communication assists with many circumstances in clinical situations. Arnold, Boggs, Barraclough, Levett Jones and Grover have discussed that different communication styles can be used to create stronger therapeutic relationships. Death And Life Of Great American Cities Essay Sidewalks and streets, the major areas of transportation in any city, determines many characteristics of a city such as whether people feel safe or not walking alone at night. If the streets aren t safe, if there is a murder late at night, people will avoid walking in that area, causing the streets to become even more unsafe. One important lesson my parents have always impressed on me is that when I am walkingat night in the city, always stick with the crowded streets in the main vein of the city, never the alleyways or the shortcuts. Jane Jacobs elaborates on this particular lesson in The Death and Life of Great American Cities by stating that while a heavier population does not necessarily mean that a street is safer (as evidenced by the Christmas tree... If a stranger is vandalizing a resident s property that is right next to public property, there will be no confusion for the resident to step up and press charges against the vandalizer. Secondly, for there to be eyes on the street , the buildings must face the streets so that the casual observer in the building can take notice of any events unfolding in the streets. If the building has its blank side facing the street, there is a higher probability that a stranger could do something on that portion of the street and then face little to no repercussions simply because no resident was watching. However, if we take to heart the words of the author, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we should view these events as the Civil Rights Revolution. Dr. King states, A social movement that only changes people is merely a revolt. A movement that changes both people and institutions is a revolution (142). Through the method of nonviolent direct action the black citizens of the United States, specifically in Birmingham, Alabama, achieved more in the summer of 1963 than any other time in American history. To appreciate this revolution we must realize it battled against three foes; the white power structure, moderates, and the church. First, the battle against the white power structure was twofold, economic and political (49). These forces had been in place since Reconstruction to keep the black citizen in slavery. Economics came into play when black workers were denied jobs and promotion due to the color of their skin, not on their skill or performance (46). They came in the form of Jim Crow lawswhich segregated the black citizen from attending the same schools, playing in the same parks, or even drinking water from the same fountain to name a few (44 47). To understand how engrained these laws were enforced we need only to learn of a United States senator being arrested because he walked through a door marked Colored (48). There is some evidence that proves some eukaryotes lack mitochondria, but there is no true evidence about complete lack of mitochondria in the organisms. Mitochondria is known as a power house of the living body cell. They store energy in the cell and release it as needed. Every structure in Mitochondria have their own specific roles which helps in storing energy (See Figure 1 for details). Evidence shows that mitochondria evolved from primitive bacteria. Did mitochondria evolve from primary bacteria or were they the new adaptation in the plants and animals? In this paper we are going to see how Mitochondrion have been evolved in different species and what methods have been used to prove that evolution. There is still debate between scientists about whether mitochondrion really evolved from bacteria or if it was present in the cells before bacteria were present. Yang et al. This stereotype comes from many years ago when there was slavery, and white males were mean to certain races. Other races, specifically African Americans and Native Americans, learned what the whites did to their great great grandparents and feel anger towards the whites and think that even this generation of whites can be racists. A lot of this stereotype also comes from the Holocaust. The Germans, who were white males, wanted to get rid of all other races. When Biff realized that Willy was not the great man that he thought he was, his dreams became nothing to him, as had his father. And so, Biff became a drifter, living only on a day to day basis. Lastly, Biff is the only character who achieves any real growth in the play. Throughout the play Linda has remained static, always steadfastly supporting Willy, and believing he is incapable of flaw. At Willy s funeral, Happy says, quot;I m gonna show you and everybody else that Willy Loman did not die in vain. He had a good dream. It s the only dream you can have to come out number one man. Having made these observations, it quickly becomes clear that Biff s character is as vital to the play as is Willy s. Without Biff there would be no play. Therefore, Biff s role in quot;Death of a Salesman quot; is important because he is the focus of Willy s attention and distress, his own conflict is

The Female Body And Land Art A prominent Cuban born artist, Ana Mendieta, has partnered the female body with nature to explore her own cultural and physical displacement, and through her incorporation of performance, body and land art has attracted numerous interpretations and historical studies. Mendieta was exiled from her homeland in the 1960s, moving to the USA. This displacement from her homeland and culture played a large part in informing her work. Mendieta repeatedly proclaimed, I am between two cultures (Mendieta in Barreras del Rio) . In her search for identity Mendieta supported feminist ideas which in turn promoted feminine discourse. I believe that Mendieta s intention was to empower women through a shared experience and the heritage of an ancient matriarchal culture. The Silueta Series which incorporated earth works, natural materials and her own body, comprised of over one hundred photographs and short films from 1973 to 1980 that documented Mendieta s ephemeral interventions between herself and the land. Art Historian Guy Brett states that Silueta is her great contribution to art (Brett, 2004:186) . Mendieta created imprints of her body in nature, leaving a silhouette or a trace. Initially, Mendieta used her own body placed in the landscape (see Fig 8) but as she progressed she would use a template to imprint her image or trace her outline in the earth. A comparison of images from the Silueta Series (shown in Fig 8 14) enables us to see her evolving the appearance of the

Even with all the work that Jessica had gone through to get to where she was, she still wanted to do more. Her friends Rosa was fascinated by the thought of crossing the finish line. Since she had been in a wheelchair her entire life, she never had the chance. Jessica decided that that was going to change. Even though she had only been running for a month on her prosthetic, Jessica began training for her town s annual 10 mile race. Jessica decided that she was going to help Rosa cross her finish line by actually pushing her across it. Jessica put in so much work to be able to achieve what seemed to be such a ridiculous goal. She ran everyday pushing around a wheelchair filled potting soil, lifted weights, and she began eating a protein filled diet to build her muscle. Jessica was so determined to do this for Rosa, even though she was disabled herself. The morning of the race was quite exciting, both for Jessica and Rosa. One minute! the announcer calls. My heart speeds up. I feel suddenly light headed. And then there s the pop of the starting gun. It s time, (Van Draanen 323). During the race, it seemed as if Jessica was reminiscing the difficult journey she endured. She thought back on the last eight months of her life, and realized how she got through it. One by one by one by one. That s how I got through losing my leg. Minute by minute by minute by minute. Hour by hour by hour by hour. Day by day by day by day, (Van Draanen 328). • 42. Crete Battle Essay What caused the battle? The introduction of aircraft to the war gave countries the abilities to do things never thought possible. Sending paratroopers to the ground from the sky, and high accuracy target bombing were only a couple of things that the introduction of aircraft brought. However, in order to use these aircraft, a place for takeoff and landing was a necessity. This is where the island of Crete, in Greece, had an advantage. As Crete was the largest of the islands in the Mediterranean, it would be the perfect location for raids into the Balkans and Southern Europe, along with being a base for tactical air support in Greece and the Balkans. The harbor was also the largest in the Mediterranean, so it would be ideal for Naval base operations. If Crete were to fall into the hands of the Germans, it could be used for raids into Egypt and Palestine, used as a base in the eastern Mediterranean, used to prevent the British from taking advantage of the Balkans, to support operations in North Africa, ... • 45. Tiresias In Oedipus Both topics of Tiresias being accused as blind by Oedipus (when he is in fact the blind one in the scenario placed within the play) and Jocasta being blind to the fact that the prophecy foretold to her came true coalesce in regards to reversal of binary in numerous processes, especially in regards to both having the motif of blindness vs sight, and ignorance vs knowing not to mention disrespect of the Gods as a whole, something very fundamental to Greek culture at the time. What is happening here in regards to binary within the play as a whole is that such examples explain the central theme at work, the binary of total omniscienceand all knowingness of the gods vs the folly and ignorance of humankind as a whole. Such an example of this binary in action is in the case of Tiresias, representing the concept of the all knowing God within a form more palatable to the decidedly ignorant human, which is Oedipus. He brings up legitimate concerns over Oedipus not regarding the actual servant of Apollo, and therefore his interpreter seriously I am not your slave. I serve Apollo (467) is but one of the claims Tiresias spread forth against Oedipus as he continues to not regard his claims. The refusal of Oedipus to look within himself or the gods is why Thebes is in chaos in its own right. Oedipus is the hero of the story, technically but he is arrogant enough to refuse all attempts of understanding the situation despite the god nearly literally throwing proof of his guilt at him.

Past researches states that bufo toxin exhibits cardiotonic and anti arrhythmic activity and other heart diseses (Clarke, 1997). It shows a beneficial effect on congestive heart failure models in rabbits due to its cardiotonic property. Many insulinotropic peptides have been isolated from different toad and frog skins. Insulin releasing peptides (peaks 21, 22, 23, 24, 25) purified by reverse phase HPLC from skin secretion of the toad. The result shows that it significantly increases the insulin release by glucose responsive BRIN BD11 cells compared to glucose alone. This proves that bufo toxin exhibits antidiabetic activity. Another study verifies that it has immunomodulatory activity because the bufo toxin have the ability of activating the proliferation of lymphocyte, specifically it increases the IL 2 and IL 12 level in the supernatant of spleen cell culture. To see how wrong he is lets take a look at the Jim Crow era. First Jim Crow was the name of the racial class method which operated mainly, but not purely in the south, between eighteen seventy seven and the nineteen sixty. Jim Crow was more than a series of severe anti black laws. It was a way of life to african americans. Under Jim Crow, African Americans were relegated to the status of second class citizens. Jim Crow represented the legitimization of anti black racism. People like Phil Robertson did not see that the Jim Crow laws where mainly there to excluded african americans from public transport and amenities, juries, jobs and school districts . When they passed the 13, 14, and 15th Amendments, the Constitution had granted african americans the same legal protections as caucasian. However, after eighteen seventy seven, and the election of Republican Rutherford B. Hayes, southern and border states began restricting the liberties of african americans. The debate over whether or not to wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle has been hot topic since the helmet law went into effect in California in 1992. It seems obvious that wearing a helmet would help protect you in a motorcycle accident. Many legislatures agree. In fact, nineteen states have a mandatory helmet law for all motorcycle riders. Twenty seven states have a law for those under a set age, three of which require additional insurance for those of age who choose not to wear a helmet. That leaves only four states with absolutely no helmet laws. Despite these facts, helmets are a superficial means of safety at realistic speeds. It s the opinion of the insurance companies that if a rider wears a helmet, he or she is safer and less likely to suffer serious injuries in an accident. Fewer injuries equal fewer claims and more profit for the company. It s not very hard to see why insurance companies are supportive of the helmet law. My own opinion in regards to support of the helmet law is this: very little is presented by major medical research that would indicate that one is safer on a motorcycle wearing a helmet during an accident. Most research states that a helmet is only successful from preventing serious injury while driving less than 15 mph (DOT Helmet test, 1999). Most accidents on a motorcycle occur at a higher rate of speed making the helmet useless. In fact, accidents involving helmeted riders often result in serious neck trauma even when the helmet doesn t come in contact with any foreign objects. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) web site lists that there were a total of 323 motorcycle fatalities in California in the year 2002 (DOT California, 2002. Of those 323, 274 were wearing a helmet, 45 riders were not. Not the type of numbers that would make you strap on a helmet. Wearing a helmet often times provides a false sense of security. The risk of injury and even death is very high while riding a motorcycle. The NHTSA also points out that the majority
