A Descriptive Essay On The Beach
Crafting a descriptive essay on the beach can be both a delightful and challenging endeavor. On
one hand, the beach offers a myriad of sensory experiences - the soothing sound of waves
crashing, the warm touch of sand beneath your feet, the salty breeze kissing your skin, and the
vibrant hues of the sun setting on the horizon. Describing these sensations allows for a vivid and
immersive portrayal of the coastal environment.
However, the challenge lies in translating these sensory impressions into words. Capturing the
essence of the beach requires a careful selection of adjectives, metaphors, and similes to evoke
the desired emotions in the reader. Striking a balance between being descriptive and not
overwhelming the reader with a barrage of details is an art in itself. Additionally, maintaining a
coherent structure to guide the reader through the essay while still infusing creativity can be a
delicate task.
Moreover, finding a unique perspective on a well-known topic like the beach can pose a
challenge. Countless essays have been written about beaches, making it imperative to approach
the task with originality. Balancing the universal appeal of the beach with personal experiences
and insights adds complexity to the writing process.
In conclusion, while the subject matter of a beach provides a rich canvas for descriptive writing,
the task of crafting an essay on this topic demands a thoughtful and nuanced approach. Striving
for originality, managing sensory details, and maintaining a captivating flow are essential aspects
that contribute to the complexity of writing an engaging and memorable descriptive essay.

Essay about Pike River Mining Disaster
Pike River Mining Disaster A Case Study
On the 19th of September 2010, what was to become known as the Pike River
Mining Disaster began in the close proximity to the town of Greymouth. At an
occupied mine of 31 miners and contractors, an initial explosion occurred in the West
Coast Region of New Zealand s South Island at approximately 3:44pm. Two were
fortunate enough to walk away from the scene and were treated for moderate injuries
at hospital, then later released the next day.
It was believed that the remaining 16 miners and 13 contractors were 1500m from the
entrance of the mine.
A second large explosion occurred on November 24thand all hope was lost that
anybody remained alive. Based on the expert evidence that I ve been ... Show more

24 of the men were New Zealanders, 2 Scottish, 2 Australians, amp; 1 South African.
The cause of what triggered the explosions still remains uncertain and the Royal
Commission of Inquiry is expected to reveal its findings by March 2012. Because it
is a matter of very significant public interest, the Royal Commission is taking charge,
the highest status of inquiry in New Zealand.
The bodies of the men remain trapped in the mine and the recovery effort was
abandoned in January 2011 as it was deemed unsafe.
Pike River Mining Disaster Nature of the Change
The Pike River Mining Disaster wasn t predicted and therefore led to unplanned
changes in the Greymouth community and Pike River Mine Ltd.
The Pike River Mine stopped operating during the explosions and in the aftermath due
to the enquiry taking place.
Solid Energy, Kiwi Rail, the Port of Lyttelton and a shipping company, all involved in
the transportation of the mine s coal were impacted by the disaster, lacking business
from the mine.
Pike River Mine stopped operating, halting the extraction of coal from the mine, and
a loss of jobs to a large sector of the Greymouth community. Families have to leave the
community in search of new occupations, affecting other businesses in the area
relying on the occupants business.
The changes resulting because of the disaster are numerous. It is foolish to even
begin to imagine what the families of the miners are experiencing. Then there is the

Human Activities Effects On The Oceans And Its
Ecosystem...
Mid term Project: Ocean Activities Humans are killing the oceans, or are they?
There are many opposing viewpoints to the controversial topic of human activities
effects on the oceans and its ecosystem being displayed on social media. According
to Louise Gerdes the author of Endangered Oceans: Opposing Viewpoints It is not
difficult to find different opinions (9). There are many different outputs of media
that have different points of view and it can be extraordinarily difficult in deciding
which opinion to agree with and which experts seem the most credible (9). With so
many concepts, various articles, and so much research out there it is hard to get a
strong informed opinion about how human activity is or is not effecting the ocean
and its ecosystem. Endangered Oceans: Opposing Viewpoints; goal is to help the
average reader form an educated opinion or to help strengthen the opinion of the
average reader by supplying opposing views in articles about the topic written by
credible people. According to Louise Gerdes all of the articles used in Endangered
Oceans: Opposing Viewpoints have credible authors. Two of the articles that stand
out are Human Activities Threaten the World s Oceans and Coastal Regions by
Anne Platt McGinn who is a senior researcher for the World watch Institute (19) and
the article Human Efforts Are Improving the Condition of the World s Oceans and
Coastal Regions by Frank E. Loy who is under secretary for Global Affairs, U.S.
Department of state (28).
The New World Order
There are many topics that may labeled as unproven belief, whether there is truly
lack of information to cover it or the information on such topics is highly classified.
One of the main unproven beliefs that catch everyone s attention is the New World
Order assuming that there is nearly 1% of the citizens, so called elite power, who
own 90% of the world, including realty, factories and governments. There has not
been much information on One World Order until recently, when a mass leak slipped
into journalists hands.
New World Order is something people suspected for a while, but there has never
been enough proof to make it legit. Even today, more and more people are considered
with this unproven belief, however, the information is still very ... Show more content

This is a nightmare for an average American, as so many people have lost their
beloved in the 9/11 attack and every American still remembers what they were doing
at the exact moment when they ve heard about the attack. If people admit that the
attack was planned by, let s say Rockefeller family and other members of Bilderberg
group, this means that whatever the country was fighting for was fake. This means
that this War on Terror that American has led for more than a decade is a fraud,
planned by the Bilderberg group in order to invade other countries resources. The
One World Order proponents also believe that among the main purposes of the elite
power is reduce the world population at least by half. This actually reminds of Nazis
again and the interesting thing is how they decide who is going to die or live.

Why Is Socrates The Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living
The storyline of Socrates the unexamined life is not worth living has played out a
historically with the controversy of evolution and the belief in God. Most people
who believe in God believe think he put everything on Earth and not the theory of
Evolution that things evolved over time. Socrates was accused of his findings that
he did not believe in God because he challenged the work of God. The unexamined
life is not worth living because if we live life the way other people want us to live
and go by their beliefs the world would be boring and too uniformed. I think that a
different view about everything is very important because we learn to agree and
disagree whereas back in Socratestime people were exiled for speaking out on things

The Diversity Of The Indigenous Youth Arts Program
Imagine a mural, of ancient Cree markings, known as syllabics, etched on a wall in
a public art gallery. You notice that for certain blocked inscriptions of the text, red
and gray paint in the style of graffiti buffing has obscured them from view. That
translated mural, presented by Open Space galleries, tells the story of the flood for
the Cree Nation. Created in 2013 by a young indigenous artist named Jesse
Campbell. As a student, you don t have many opportunities to create a large scale
piece of art and have it displayed in a public place. But here in Victoria a program
exists for indigenous youth artists where you can do just that.
The Indigenous Youth ArtsProgram, created by the Open Space arts society,
provides this environment. A studio where young indigenous artists can
experiment and create grand scale artwork. Every two weeks mentors and
participants meet to explore and work on their respective projects. The Indigenous
mentors are artists in their fields, who share their knowledge and ability with the
students. The program is flexible, with drop in opportunities to come for a few
sessions or stay for the full program. Jesse Campbell, a former student of the
program in 2013, who is now the co ordinator of the program, says, the mentors are
fortunate to be a part of the program, and consider the student s lucky to have access
to such a resource. A place that cultivates and enriches indigenous artists, by giving
them direction and opportunity to explore
The Internet Plagiarism Explosion Essay
A great deal has been published in the media about the explosion of Internet
plagiarism among high school and college students. Because the Internet is so young,
there have been few studies conducted on the extent of Internet plagiarism. However,
existing studies do show that the Internet is an extremely popular tool students use to
cheat on written assignments. In any group of students, some will choose the path of
academic dishonesty and copythe words or ideas of another person without giving
credit to the author. The advent of the Internet has opened new waysfor students to
plagiarize written material. Not only can students copy material from individual Web
sites, but they can use an online paper mill to pay for and receive an... Show more

Some, including www.collegetermpapers.com, offer papers for free. (All of these
sites were found in a search for term papers using the Google search engine.)
Although papers are readily available for downloading from paper mills, the
quality of those papers is usually poor. An investigative report conducted by U.S.
News World Report evaluated the quality of four papers purchased from Internet
mills. University professors evaluated each of the papers and judged their quality to
be mediocre at best (Kleiner, 1999, para. 4).
Studies reach conflicting conclusions on the extent of plagiarism and cheating in
American high schools and colleges. An article in the Toronto Star cites a study
conducted by Who s Who Among American High School Students that found that
four fifths of high school students surveyed reported cheating (Walker, 2001, para.
28). The Center for Academic Integrity found that 72 percent of high school students
admit to serious cheating on written assignments and over 50 percent plagiarized
material from the Internet (CAI Research, 2001, para. 7). The Los Angeles Times
paraphrased the founder of the Center for Academic Integrity: Although a majority of
high school students admit cheating at one time or another, technological advances
such as the Internet have not had a significant effect on the overall number of
cheaters. Of students who admitted to
Us Involvement In The Cold War
I believe that the United States involvement in the Cold War had a significant
influence on the debate as well as the Supreme Court decision of the Brown v. Board
of Education case. After the Civil War ended, the Confederate states were in desperate
need of repair; consequently, the Reconstruction Period began, when the federal
government of the United Statesforced the states of the Deep South to outlaw slavery
and put great pressure on these states to reform their laws accordingly. It is during
this time, the second half of the nineteenth century, that the Deep South states began
to pass laws that segregated races in public and encouraged oppression of primarily
blacks. The segregation of races in the Deep South continued to worsen until it came
to the boiling point with the Brown v. Board of Education Case, which ultimately
would decide the fate of segregation laws in the South. Although it is obvious that
segregation is wrong and that the decision made by the Supreme Court was without
question the right one, the Cold War certainly did factor into the discussion of
segregation and race relations in the United States. This is due primarily to the fact
that the United States spearheaded the ideas of freedom and democracy as the best

Board of Education, the US would be able to use the decision as a weapon to gain
global influence. Global influence was a key component of the Cold War, and so the
Supreme Court s decision would allow the United States to use it as proof that a free
democracy is the best type of government over Soviet communism. This was another
factor that played into the debate that encouraged the Supreme Court to outlaw
segregation. Overall, although the Supreme Court s decision was fundamentally the
correct decision to make, the benefits of the decision stretched beyond human rights

Child Language Disorders Video Analysis
The videos that I had observed was about child language disorder and speech sound
disorder. The clinician, Bob Buckendorf, had worked with both clients individually,
but this was their first group session. The clinician, Molly Berger had worked with
the client individually for a few months. The clinician used a lot of visual supports
during this session. These visuals supports range from readingbooks to pointing at
different items in the class room. The clinician helped the clients read the story. Mr.
Buckendorf also asked the kids to predict different things based on the reading. Ms.
Berger helped her client duplicate sounds that were hard for her client to produce.
There were no major behavior modifications made during the session. The
Dollar vs. Euro
1. Introduction Since the appearance of the EURO (ВЂ) in the international trading
system, the American dollar ($) has lost its domination and role in the financial
world. Consequently, there is not only a great disparity in the exchange rate
between the two currencies in favor of the EURO, but a growing problem in the
US economy as well. Table 1, which can be found in Appendix B, shows the course
and relationship of the exchange rates of the two currencies from 1999 until now.
The scope of this paper is to approach as best as possible the various reasons for this
disparity and try to predict the future of the two currencies based on accurate and up
to date information. At this point, the authors would like to make clear that they do not

At this point we should clarify that the exchange rates are influenced by the
combination of the reasons mentioned above. Nevertheless, we will try to break
them down and examine them individually. 2.Interest Rates One of the most
important factors that affect and change the exchange rates is the interest rates,
which are announced by the FED and the ECB. With the terms FED and ECB, we
refer to the Federal Reserve System and to the European Central Bank. The former
is the central banking system of the United States, whereas the latter is one of the
world s most important central banks. However, both of them are responsible for
the monetary policies in the countries or states that they are consisted of, by setting
a wide variety of rates, in order to stabilize their economies. The two main and
general rates which affect the exchange rates are the borrowing rate and the
deposit rate. Currently, the rates for the United States are 5.25% and 5.25%
respectively, whereas for the Eurozone the rates are 5% and 4% respectively. This
means in simple and broad words that it might be more profitable for someone to
borrow money from the Eurozone, since he will have a gain of 0.25%, but it will be
more profitable if

Exploring the Factors Contributing to the Development of the Cold War There were
several factors which led to the development of the Cold War. In this essay I will
discuss the disagreement over Polandand Truman s personality.
Disagreement over how Poland should be governed was a very important factor in
the development of the Cold War. Churchill, Britain and Roosevelt, USA wanted
Poland to be democratic whereas Stalin wanted to make sure that Poland s new
government was friendly towards the USSR. The Yalta Agreement had tried to...

This clash of ideas was important as it harmed the relation between the countries,
and therefore led to a Cold War developing. The British and the Americans were
also horrified by Russia s behaviour regarding the Warsaw uprising. When the
London Poles (the anti Soviet potential government) decided to seize control of
part of Poland, the Soviet army did nothing to help them although they were very
close. As a result, it was brutally destroyed by the Germans and almost 300,000
Poles were killed in the process. Again, this harmed the relation between Britain and
America and the USSR. At Yalta, they tried to resolve the problems concerning the
government of Poland and Polish land. The borders of Poland were altered without
too much problem and it was agreed that the Lublin government in Poland was to be
expanded to include some London Poles as well and that free elections would be
held as soon as possible. However, this was not put into practice; Stalin only talked
about bringing non communists into Poland without carrying it out and Molotov, the
Foreign Minister rejected the idea of letting the London Poles have a significant role
in the government. This led to extreme disappointment because people had thought
that Stalin would allow western style governments to be set up in Eastern Europe and
it also meant that people lost
Essay on Media Advertising
The Absolut Advertising Campaign
Texts are political. Political in the sense that they produce messages that carry
specific ideas and beliefs targeted toward a certain thinking body of people. A
familiar phrase in America is, art imitates life. It defines life as essential to art, but
can we say the reverse? Could life imitate art? The semantics of the phrase seem too
ambiguous for such a statement. What is the definition of art, of life? The phrase
suggests that art reinforces cultural and social beliefs by using the verb imitate. If art
imitates life, then life imitates art. The verb is reflexive and positioned in the middle
of the two words it is reflecting. It is true then, the language speaks for itself, and this

The campaign has been in progress for about twenty years, and has been called the
most successful ad campaign in American history. [2] The standard image of the
Absolut bottle is recognizable by many people, and has purposely been reproduced
in every ad establishing it as a social symbol in America. Each advertisement includes
a culturally significant person, place, object, or idea along side the standard bottle.
Absolut Vodka ads reveal mixed messages about culture to their audience masked on
the surface by a culturally significant artifact.
The most successful ad campaign in American history is characterized by an
overwhelming number of individual ads that are separated into genres. When
looking at a series of ads, we have a better idea of the cultural significance attached
to the images. The text exists in relation to others. The image of the Absolut bottle
has become a cultural icon, and the advertising aim is to make it recognizable as a
distinct symbol of class to everyone who sees it. In order to make sense of the ad,
the reader must identify the vodka bottle within the text. This expectation relies on
the network of ads that have preceded it. Instant identification of the symbol makes
the reader of an Absolut ad a member of an exclusive club. The Absolut Vodka ad
campaign aims to enroll everyone as a member of this club
The Consumption Of Fats Plays A Key Role On The...
During pregnancy, the consumption of fats plays a key role in the development of
the fetus. A dietary fat is an essential nutrient that helps the body function by
providing protection, fuel and absorption for cells, tissues and organs. The fats
consumed are Triglycerides and the mechanism behind this process is for lipoprotein
lipase (LPL) to break the triglycerides into smaller components. They mostly contain
fatty acids, cholesterol, fatsoluble vitamins and other lipids that will be delivered to
target tissues for performing activities, or stored as fat if not directly used. The
increased consumption of triglycerides can raise bloodlipid levels such as low density
lipoprotein (LDL) that promotes the risk of developing cardiovascular... Show more

Over time, collected data from the third trimester (G130) of all pregnancies resulted
in a significant decrease in blood volume flow of the HFD maternal and the placental
portion of the fetus.
The authors revealed that A, Uterine artery (Uta) PI is 0.74 in a representative control
animal. B, The Uta PI is 1.17 in a representative HFD S animal with a Doppler
waveform that demonstrates decreased diastolic flow consistent with increased
vascular impedance when compared with A. (1) The study is suggesting that the
accumulation of fat molecules in the placenta restricted the blood to flow through.
Moreover, Insufficient oxygen and nutrients from the placental can interfere with the
growth of the fetus.
The immunohistochemistry, confirmed no TLR4 staining in the chorionic villous
stroma in control placentas. Conversely, there were increased levels of TLR4 staining
in chorionic villous stroma and syncytiotrophoblast in HFD placentas. (1) The TLR4
is a protein pathway responsible for activating the fetus immune system by providing
a supply of nutrients and protection. However, constant irritation of circulating blood
lipids within this pathway has changed the function of the protein, becoming
vulnerable to the hazardous environment. At the same time, the TLR4 in both parts of
the placenta of the mother and fetus has developed inflammation. Although this study
was on non human primates, we can still see similarities when comparing structures
of the human uterus. Critically,

Analysis Of 23 Clown Street
Fortunately, the novel reclaims momentum and suspense as Ed is tasked with Ace
of Spades, particularly 23 Clown Street. The second assignment, 23 Clown Street,
provides the audience insight regarding Beverly s (Ma) hatred towards Ed and the
legacy of his father. Initially, Zusak creates apprehension as Ed visits Melusso s
restaurant various times without any change. Apprehension escalates as a conflict is
introduced: Ed s mother dines with another man. This moment transcends the need
for language, and empathy is truly established. Zusak allows for the audience to
experience the shock, anger, and sadness in which Ed is enduring. Ed s
confrontation with Ma at her house creates tension as Ed finally questions her
hatred. Unsurprisingly, Ma mercilessly scorns Ed to the extent that the audience
experiences the excruciating pain and confusion that Ed endures. This portrayed
flawlessly through characterization and powerful figurative language that truly
captures the intensity of Ed s emotions. However, Zusak bewilders the readers as
Ed finally rises up to his mother. This scene provides satisfaction to the audience as
he exclaims every thought, emotion that has been concealed within him.
Simultaneously, the audience witnesses a significant progression of Ed s character
as he no longer accepts the criticism of his mother. However, it is Ed s epiphany of
the definition of success which astonishes the readers as they bear witness to Ed s
development. Undoubtedly, this incident enlightens the audience with several motifs
/notions. Notably, Zusak depicts the seemingly simple notion that success
/satisfaction is not dependent on location but rather on the individual itself.
Formerly, Ed firmly upheld the idea that his mediocrity was due to his current
location. Such is illustrated as Ed states, I m typical of many of the young men
you see in this suburban outpost of the city not a whole lot of prospects or
possibility (6). It is evident that location greatly influences Ed s mindset regarding
prospects and fortitude. Similarly, Ma also shares the same outlook on success as
she states, The voice is dark. And your father he promised me that one day...We re
still here. I m here. You re here, and just like your old man
The Unknown Citizen By F. H. Auden, A P
In the three literary works that were chosen, The Known Citizen by W. H. Auden, A
P by John Updike, and Antigone by Sophocles has a theme that is known to be
conformity and rebellious. The poem The Unknown Citizen is mainly about the
unknown man who is a conformist because he listens to all the rules that are made for
the society. On the other hand, the short storyA P has a conformist character who
enforces the rules for the supermarket and a rebellious character who goes against
the rules for the supermarket. Similar to A P the play Antigone also has a conformist
character who likes to go by the rules that the society has made; however, a rebellious
character who is always goes against the rules made for the society. The three
different writings that represent a character who conforms within these writings. A
conformist is someone who follows the rules that are given to them without any
complaints. On the other hand, the three literary writings also have characters that
are rebellious within these writings. A rebellious person is someone who does not
follow the rules that are given to them; therefore, the rebellions go against the rules.
Within the three different pieces of writings there is a character who represents
conformity within them. For instance, W. H. Audenwrote the poem The Unknown
Citizen . This poem has a main character that represents a conformist; however, this
character does not have a name which is why the poem is called The Unknown

Multiple Myeloma
Multiple myeloma Multiple myeloma (also plasma cell myeloma also known as
MM, myeloma, plasma cell myeloma, or as Kahler s disease) is a progressive
hematologic (blood) disease. It is a cancer of the plasma cell, an important part of the
immune system that produces immunoglobulins (antibodies) to help fight infection
and disease. The immune systemis made up of several types of cells that work
together to fight infections. Lymph cells (called lymphocytes) are the main type of
cell in the adaptive immune system. There are 2 types of lymph cells: T cells and B
cells. When B cells respond to an infection, they change into plasma cells. The
plasma cells are found mainly in the bone marrowthe soft, inner part of some bones.

MM is often also characterized usually in the pelvis, spine, ribs, and skull by diffuse
osteoporosis. There are often no symptoms in the early stages of myeloma. In some
cases, myeloma may be exposed by an accident in the course of routine blood testing
and if symptoms are present they may be indistinct and related to those of other
medical conditions. It is very rare to have any one patient with all of these symptoms
below:
Bone pain: Tiny fractures in the bones, causing bone pain often results due to the
accumulation of plasma cells and weakened bone structures. The most common sites
of bone pain are back or the ribs, but usually any bone can be affected. Pain is usually
worse with movement and at night.
Fatigue: The growth and development of red blood cells in the bone marrow may be
suppressed while having increase in the number of malignant plasma cells, which
then cause low levels of red blood cells in the blood. This condition, know as anemia,
can result in unusual fatigue or weakness.

OPERATING FANS
The best thing to remember with fans is that they cool people, they do not cool
rooms. The air movement that fans create pulls heat and moisture off of us and gives
us a cooling sensation. They do not decrease room temperatures.
So please be sure to leave fans off when not in the room. In most cases, it is also not
recommended to leave the fan running on your furnace or air conditioner.
LOWER THE SET POINT ON YOUR WATER HEATER
If you never run out of hot water, you can probably turn the set point of your water

2.2 Water Efficiency Tips Water use is becoming an increasingly important issue.
Energy is used to extract the water from the ground, treat it, pump it to your home,

Aesir Research Paper
LITERARY BACKGROUNDS AND TERMINOLOGIES The primary texts are
derived from two major sources of Scandinavian mythology: the Elder Edda (Poetic
Edda) and the Younger Edda (Prose Edda). As the name suggests, the former contains
some old materials composed as early as the 10th and 11th centuries, including
Völuspá (The Seeress s Prophecy), Thrymskvida (Thyrm s Poem), and Lokasenna
(Loki s Quarrel). While the authors of the Elder remains unknown, the Younger is
written by the Icelandic historian, poet, and politician Snorri Sturluson around A.D.
1220. Both texts are related in a way that Sturluson cited various contents from the
Elder to produce the Younger (von Schnurbein, 2000, pp. 110 111). Interestingly, he

Odin and Thor, but also a figure who proves his competence to solve problems for
them (Lindow, 2002, pp. 217; von Schnurbein, 2000, pp. 115). In Thrymskvida,
the author recounts a story about the recovery of Thor s hammer from the giant
Thrym. To get back the hammer, Loki sets foot in Jötunheimr, where he
negotiates with Thrym, who demands the goddess Freyja to be his wife as an
exchange. However, when Freyja refuses, much to the annoyance of Thor, he has
to pretend by dressing up as her. When Thor complains, Loki scolds him and says,
be quite, Thor, ... / The giant will be settling in Asgard / unless you get your
hammer back (Larrington, 2008, pp. 99). Here, Loki s warning indicates his
allegiance to the Aesir over the giants. Interestingly, being notoriously known for his
short temper, Thor does not lash out against Loki when he orders him to be quite. In
fact, Thor willingly obeys his request because Thor senses the truth that without the
hammer, the safety of Asgard will be jeopardized. With the help of Loki, Thor
manages to get back his hammer in the end. This story demonstrates how much the
Aesir trust Loki so that they make him as their travel companion, whom they seek an

Leadership Vision in the Hall of Fall
Leadership is venturing out into unknown territories and making new pathways,
using knowledge, experience and wisdom to motivate followers to accomplish a
shared vision. My leadership hall of fame showed me that leadership style
dominates my Hall of Fame list. The three words most prevalent on my list were
dependable, conscientious, and trustworthy. My list included mainly teachers and
coaches from my youth and the main reason they are the ones that come to mind has
to do with the relationships that were built. I am still in contact with two of my
former teachers and enjoy and learn from our conversations. In a study by Andrew
W. Halpin, he states effective or desirable leadershipbehavior is characterized by high
ratings on both Initiating Structure and Consideration (Wren, 1995, p. 146). Structure
has to do with the task at hand and consideration deals with relationships. I believe
relationships in education are a strong characteristic need for team building.
The words I chose for leadership come from my own experiences. The three key
words I chose directly influence the ability of a leader to be effective. Dependability
is the foundation of a good leader and so is trustworthiness. Conscientiousness is
important because it deals with being thorough, organized, controlled, dependable,
and decisive, all traits I feel make a strong leader.
Servant leadership emphasizes that leaders be attentive to the concerns of their
followers, empathize with them, and nurture

Runaway Love Analysis
The song Runaway Love by Mary J. Blige featuring rapper Ludacris focuses on the
theme of neglect and living in poverty as a young girl in the United States. The
lyrics of the song depict the stories of three young girls of different ages, Lisa,
Nicole, and Erica, who are undergoing extreme cases of abuse at home and in their
personal lives. This is attributed to the single parenthomes in which the girls live,
where their mothers are either never home, mommas always gone , or incapable of
caring for and providing for a child, momma s on drugs getting high up in the
kitchen . The abuse in each case comes to the point where the victims no longer
believe they can withstand the torment being imposed upon them, and that their only
hope of survival and happiness is to run away and fend for themselves: Forced to
think that hell is a placed called home, nothin else to do but get some clothes and
pack, she say she bout to run away and never come back . Through the repetition of
this phrase the theme of fear and abandonment is identified, as each girl deals with
their struggling relationships with a neglectful mother, abusive father, and unstable
environment. Singer and songwriter Mary J. Bligeendured a difficult childhood filled
with violence, alcohol and drugs from a young age. Her mother was an alcoholic who
worked as a nurse. Blige s mother spent many nights working the night shift and long
hours away from home, leaving the star unattended to, with people she thought she

Abstract
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder
diagnosed in women of reproductive age. The disease manifests itself with varying
symptoms and has long term consequences of heart disease, diabetes, and infertility.
PCOS has no clear etiology or pathophysiology, and as new information is being
contributed, the mechanism and components of the disease is being updated.
Presented here are the most understood and accepted components of PCOS, and its
pathology as a reproductive disorder along with its endocrine and metabolic
relationships. PCOS pathophysiology exhibits itself mainly through increased
androgen synthesis through ovaries and adrenal glands causing follicle growth to halt
in the antral stage. Its etiology has been determined to be multifactorial with both
genetic and environmental factors causing or increasing effects. Genetics of PCOS
have shown its transmission to be in autosomal dominant fashion while
environmental factors such as obesity, insulin resistance, and intrauterine
environment contributes to its phenotype. Relationships between the factors are
discussed and how they contribute to the overall phenotype.
Introduction
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal endocrine disorder that causes
an increase in androgen production primarily from the ovaries. Affecting 10% of
women between the ages of eighteen through forty four, it is one of the leading
causes of infertility in women and one of the most

How Does The Honey Bee Affect Our Society
The honey bee is the substructure of the human population. It is imperative that
the world knows about the decline of honey bees and work together to save the
honey bee population. Nearly one third of the world s crops are dependent on
honeybees, but over the last decade the black and yellow insects have been dying at
an unexpected rate in the United States. Pesticides, disease, poor weather, and the
stress of being taken from one orchard to another to pollinate different crops all play
a role in the decline of the honey bee. The honeybeeas a species is not in danger of
extinction, but a large portion of our food supply is, because the honey bee no longer
has the ability to support the industry of commercial pollination. Without honey
God The Son, The Incarnation And Attributes Of God
When exploring the concept of God the Son , the incarnation and attributes of God as
seen in Christ enter the picture. In order for human sin to be covered, a human
sacrifice is all that could meet the requirement ordained by God, yet, they had to be
sinless. Only the incarnate God could fulfill this role, exhibiting qualities of God
Himself, such as selflessness, unconditional love, and purity. Another core trait was
humbleness, although Jesusheld the highest status in all the world, which shone
brightly in His ministry, as He also served the children of God. Paul captured the
essence of Jesus as God and the reality of the incarnation in these verses, let this
mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who being in the form of God...made
Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the
likeness of men (Philippians 2:5 7, NKJV).
Johannine literature truly portrays Jesus as God, with the theme of His deity
interwoven throughout numerous passages. In this respect, John s style differs from
the other four gospels, as Bickel Jantz (1998) point out that the other three had been
written prior to John s gospel, therefore, he wasn t interested in just retelling the
events (p. 222). Since Jesus is the focal point of Scripture, a scholar of the New
Testament with uncertainty concerning Jesus oneness with God will fail to perceive
the crux of Christianity. Therefore, in spite of its importance, John does not focus on

A Research Study On Vascular Imaging
Introduction
Vascular ultrasound (US) is an established non invasive method of imaging the
cardiovascular system. It is cheap, accessible and provides a rapid diagnosis of
many vascular diseases such as presence of abdominal aortic aneurysm, deep vein
thrombosis and limb arterial occlusions. The majority of vascular ultrasound
currently done in the UK is trans cutaneous ultrasound, in which the US probe obtains
images of the vessels from above the skin.
In recent years intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) has gained popularity in obtaining
high resolution images of the blood vessels from inside the vascular lumen, providing
detailed information of the vascular lesions and their anatomy.
In this review, utilisation of IVUS in different areas of... Show more content on

The standard IVUS sheaths are 9 Fr with a 0.035 inch guidewire, however 0.014
inch catheters are available for smaller arteries (Kpodonu et al., 2008).
Once inside the target vessel, IVUS obtains 360 degrees cross sectional images.
The sonic wave reflections from the arterial wall differ depending on the structure
of the arterial wall components. Collagen and elastin produce a stronger sonic
reflection thus a hyper echoic picture of the intima and adventitia, whilst the
smooth muscle cells in the media produce a hypo echoic picture due to reduced
sonic reflection from these structures (Kpodonu et al., 2008). New generation
IVUS devices can produce three dimensional pictures by stacking the two
dimensional axial images during pull back of the US catheter. The pull back could
be done either manually or mechanically using a motor. 3 D images are useful in
assessment of endovascular device deployment failures, which might not be detected
in conventional angiographies. 3 D images are also helpful in sizing of the arteries
and veins for endovascular device planning (Weissman et al., 1995; Heuser et al.,
1997).
IVUS can provide B mode and colour images from inside the vessels. The
transducers frequencies are generally between 10 MHz and 40MHz (Lee and
White, 2004). New generation IVUS with frequencies of 40MHz to 50MHz are
useful for imaging the coronary arteries (Lee and White, 2004).
Although higher frequencies can produce higher resolution images, this would

The Affirmative Policy Brief
The U.S.F.G should ban the sale of super hero related products intended for minors
Definitions of key terms: (found in Cambridge dictionary) Minor=under 18 years
old Superhero= a character in stories or movies who has special powers, such as the
ability to fly, that are used for fighting evil or helping people Products= something
that is made to be sold, esp. something produced by an industrial process. I argue that
we should impose a ban on the sale of superhero related products intended for minors.
Superhero items stunts development because of violence and imagination confining
scripted toys. We, therefore, should turn to different types of activities that foster a
safer environment and healthier attitude towards play time.
Children are easily impressionable so it is necessary to monitor the play time in
which they partake in. Contention one: The Problem here is superhero items promote
violence.
Claim: We are setting an example to children that it is okay to use force or violence
to attain goals or solve a problem. Superhero play can romanticize fighting and killing
and foster unnecessary aggression. Superhero television shows can undermine
conflict resolution skills and desensitize children to violence. We can t ignore all
these impacts. Evidence: The National Coalition on Television Violence brought to

The real, the sexual instincts, and the organic cell are under the same heading
because the real is impossible to imagine, impossible to integrate into the symbolic
order, and impossible to attain in any way (Ross; quoting Evans and Bowie). It is
the impossibility of the real that links it to the sexual and death instincts (which are
essentially the same thing), and the organic cell. To illustrate, Heidegger s being
towards death is the source of his foundational anxious attunement, but being towards
death is not the same as being towards the end (Heidegger 245). It is Heidegger s
distinction between knowing I will surely die someday, and I am dying right now that
draws the death instinct into agreement with the organic cell. This is to say that,
while the biological need to reproduce drives the death instinct, any awareness of the
purpose (or expression) of this need cannot be internalized. Likewise, one cannot be
aware of their biological imperative (per the organic cell) for immortality through
reproduction; these desires and instincts are not repressed, they are beyond the scope
of human comprehension. Moving on to the next column, the imaginary, the ego
instincts, and the conscious cell are linked together as they lie within the realm of
unarticulated (but articulable) identifications and idealisations which are the building
blocks of fantasy and ego; it is the most

Should Kant s categorical imperative be supported in the practice of modern
medicine?
Introduction
Immanuel Kant saw the importance of autonomy long before the field of medicine
was as advanced as it is now through the second formulation of his categorical
imperative: Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own person or
in the person of any other, never merely as a means to an end, but always at the same
time as an end . Kant recognises that it is autonomy that allows for self actualisation
and the manifestation of one s identity through having the capacity to make self
governed choices. Therefore autonomy factor that gives humans the duty to treat each
other as ends and to violate the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kant provides us with these ethical guidelines however there are cases in medicine
which illustrate that a physician s expertise allows him to see that following a
patient s autonomous decision may lead to further suffering causing the health
professional to take a paternalistic course of action. This ethical problem has lead
me to investigate whether medical practice should uphold Kant s categorical
imperative, and if not where should we search for a way forward? I intend to analyse
Kant s ethics to see where its strengths and weaknesses lie when applied to the
medical field before exploring other ethical theories in an attempt to find the most
suitable means of decision making in medicine. I will use case studies to illustrate
the point that Kant s ethics, although perfect for an ideal world, does not work in the
medical field, nor does a utilitarian approach. This leads us toward an intuitionist
stance in order to keep the benefits of the categorical imperative offers us while
maintaining applicability to medicine.
How could the categorical imperative work in medicine?
The categorical imperative does have strength in its principled and high minded
nature that can be condensed down into the following three formulations:
Act only according to that maxim whereby you can at the same time will that it
should become a universal law without contradiction.
Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in
Characteristics Of A Bureaucracy
As society has grown over the years, people have continued to group themselves
together in unique ways to accomplish certain goals. One of these formal groups,
studied and named by Max Weber, is called a bureaucracy (Larkin, 2015). A
bureaucracy is defined as A type of formal organization, most often a governmental
organization made up of nonelected members, the constituent parts of which are
integrated to accomplish a specific goal, task, or production outcome in the most
efficient manner (Larkin, 2015). In American society, bureaucracies exist in countless
forms and are found in almost every walk of life. As a student at Grand Canyon
University, Associate Students of Grand Canyon University (ASGCU) is a formal
bureaucracythat many students are familiar with on campus. ASGCU is the standing
student government organization at GCU and meets the characteristics of a
bureaucracy by having specialization, a hierarchical authority structure, emphasis on
written rules and regulations to be followed, written communication, and an emphasis
on credentials and technical competence.
The first characteristic of a bureaucracy is specialization and ASGCU fits this
characteristic in several ways including clearly written job descriptions and the
various teams that exist to accomplish specific goals. ASGCU is split into three
branches: the legislative, administrative, and executive branch. Each branch is split
into teams such as the public relations, the senate, marketing, internal

The clans of Somalia are strong social units that play a central part in Somalia
culture and the countries politics. Unfortunately, clans are an invitation to divide
and rule politics as well. During the British and Italian rule of Somalia in the early
to mid nineteenth century, clans were not seen as a growing problem. The British
and Italians used clans to their advantage to help keep the country stable. In the
mid nineteenth century, the British introduced democracy in Somalia, which
created many political parties within Somalia. Control of Somalia would then be
debated for many years between the weak democratic political parties in Somalia.
This instability in Somalia opened the doors for General Mohammed Siad Barre,
who would eventually defeat the fragile democratic political parties in Somalia. In
1969, General Mohammed Siad Barre became president of Somalia and declared
Somalia a socialist state. Backed by the U.S. who supported the Siad Barre regime,
with economic, diplomatic, and military power, which eventually fell into the hands
of the militant clans, Siad Barre dictatorship turned the clan politics of divide and

What impact did Act 1 Scene 1 of King Lear have on you?
The first scene of the first act of King Lear had a genuinely dramatic affect upon me.
This first glimpse into the world of Lear and his subordinates sets the premise for the
whole play, unravelling within the first few pages, themes which I believe will

characters Kent, Gloucester and Edmund. Of these three characters the only one who

At this point of the scene it can be clearly noticed how similar Goneril and Regan are,
as Regan asks Lear to measure her worth as he measured Goneril s. This closeness
seems symbolic in a way to the close knit coven in Macbeth, as these women seem to
have underlying deceptive qualities. Before considering Cordelia s answer to Lear, we
must note her comments made during Goneril and Regan s speeches . This is
keen use of the aside speech by Shakespeare as the audience would be able to hear
Cordelia s confusion over what her response shall be and her truthful belief that her
love is more ponderous than her tongue. Her indecision over what to say to her
father shows really how much she does not want to offend him, but instead she does
the opposite, as he cannot see beyond his pride, to her loyal words.
When she says Nothing , she is indicating to him that he should no the worth of her
love for him. The king, shocked with this appearance of ingratitude in his favourite
child, desired her to consider her words, and to mend her speech, lest it should mar
her fortunes. Cordelia then tells Lear that she loves him according to her station,
and as much as he loves her as his daughter. She is as she says young...and true .
Lear is obviously hurt but it seems, due to the severity of his actions, that his pride
and title have been harmed more. He disowns her and she becomes his sometime
daughter . At this point Kent intervenes on Cordelia s behalf

teacher and student use, and creating and updating different automation task that
made some manual time consume task, very easy or non existence at all or
working on self hosted learning programs for teacher and student use. One of the
first projects was for me to make a program that took a picture from a camera
renamed it to a normalized name convention and then move it to the correct
directory, so that a ID printing software could select the correct picture to print it
on the ID. When I first received this project I was thinking, this will be easy
because it was just like I did in CSCI 330, UNIX and Network Programming. The
only problem was that it had to run on a Windows server and not Linux. Pythonwas
already installed on the server for another task, so my manager said that I could use
it or any other scripting language that I felt most comfortable with. I chose Python
because I did not know many other languages at the time and because I just started
taking CSCI 490K which was a classabout Python to solve different problems. After
doing research and getting assistant from other members of the team I was able to
test and complete the program. Throughout the semester, I came back to this script
to refine it after learning new concepts in class to make it more efficient and
handle errors better. One of the next projects, also one of the largest was for me to
make a new script that interfaced with a Google for education administrator console
API in order to manage 8,000 Chromebooks. This was the first project that was
given a firm dead line for completion because there was around 4,000
The Zone Diet And Protein Analysis
Earlier we learned that water is the main chemical in our bodies. Coming in number
two is protein. The word protein actually means first substance due to the fact that
the first food fuel we ever consumed was our mother s milk. Milk is the only food
specifically designed to sustain mammalian life and therefore human life. Milk has
two proteingroups:
Whey which is the complete protein that makes milk so essential to life and;
Casein which is used for manufacturing cheese and other milk by products.
One of the problems you can have in understanding protein is that there is so much
information out there on protein, most of it contradictory, most of it wrong. It s time
that you had the truth about protein; just the facts and nothing but ... Show more

2. Single Free Form Amino Acids
Single free form amino acids are manufactured through fermentation by
microorganisms in large biological chambers. These can be manufactured as
pharmaceutical grade pure injectables or as food grade products. As food products,
amino acids they are very costly, taste terrible, have poor mixability, high digestive
irritability and are absorbed relatively slowly.
3. Soy Protein
As scientists we find it particularly vexing that there is so much information being
peddled by marketing companies regarding soy protein being the best source of
protein for women. This is due to the fact that soy is a BIG business in the US. And
soy manufacturers actually have lobbyists on the payroll helping to create the big
lie. There is no other way to state the facts other than to say that calling soy the best,
most complete protein for women is totally inaccurate as it is missing a highly
critical amino acid, methionine. Facts are facts and there is no way to dispute this

A New Generation Of Workers
A new generation of workers are in the midst of taking over the workforce:
Generation Y, also known as the Millennials. Baby boomers are ending their
employment life cycle and transitioning into retirement, leaving Millennials as the
soon to be dominant generation in the workforce. By 2020, more than 46% of
labour will be provided by these millennials. (Weber, 2016) As this transition
begins, a new trend within the workforce has also begun. Modern workers are no
longer spending their entire career with one employer. In fact, according to data
from the Bureau of Labour Statistics, the average worker today only stays at each
of his or her jobs for 4.4 years. However, the expected tenure of the workforce s
youngest employees is about half of that. Ninety one percent of Millennials (born
between 1977 1997) expect to stay in a job for less than three years, meaning they
would have 15 to 20 jobs over the course of their working lives. (Meister, 2012)
With career development and work life balance on the forefront of the millennial
mind, gone is the era of employers using base salary in order to compete for the
worker talent pool. They now have to consider the total compensation package,
which includes all forms of money, benefits, services, and other perks eligible to the
employee when competing with other firms, as modern employees have begun to
place just as strong of an importance on benefits as they do salary. The various
benefit packages offered by employers play a
The Fall Of The House Of Usher Literature Analysis
Literature can be defined as written works, especially those considered of superior or
lasting artistic value. In the short story, The Fall of the House of Usher written by
Edgar Allen Poe, Usher is a senile middle aged man who invites an old friend to his
gothic mansion. While arriving the narrator notices mysterious events beginning to
happen. Also, in House Taken Over written by Julio Cortazar, siblings find
themselves in post WWII Argentina trying to avoid a dangerous entity manifesting
and taking over their house. Gothic Style uses the power of suggestion and
implication when depicting the supernatural, whereas Magical Realism arouses fear
and concern in its audience by including supernatural events in modern society. The

In magical realism the addition of supernatural is a critical role in fulfilling the
purpose of alluding to a more frightening and possible event. Gothic literature is a
style which is very present in Edgar Allen Poe s The Fall of the House of Usher . In
Poe s short story, the narrator is the one to figure out/ imply that these twins are
telepathic. Usher locks up his twin sister and claims to here her cries for help louder
and sooner than the narrator, suggesting their hidden powers (Poe, 29). By suggesting
Usher and his sisters spiritual unity, aspects of Gothic literature are emphasized,
providing evidence for the story to fall under the category of Gothic literature.
Through analyzing House Taken Over , it can be said that the short story is an
example of magical realism. Although not directly stated what, siblings are being
haunted by a supernatural force in the time of late WWII, this haunting is dangerous
and causes siblings to abandon their once cherished house (Cortazar, 42). The fact
that the story takes place in 1946 Argentina right after WWII drives the assumption
that these events may have taken place, a common understanding in magical realism.
The purpose of addition of the supernatural in both styles is used to entertain the
reader and/ or to add some sort of meaning to the text. In gothic text it is meant to
allow the reader to delve into their own dark and mysterious thoughts.

Prior to the devastating September 11, 2001 terrorist attack, the level of
preparedness of local and federal first response agencies including Fire Department
of New York (FDNY), the New York Police Department (NYPD), the Mayor s Office
of Emergency Management (OEM), and the Port Authority Police Department
(PAPD) was not well organized (Kean Hamilton, 2004). According to the Kean and
Hamilton (2004) on 9/11 commission report, the following explain their prior
preparedness. First, the PAPD did not have a standard operating procedure concerning
how different commands should communicate over radio in case of a terrorist attack.
This meant confusion in communication over radio in during the terrorist attack.
Second, the FDNY s radios performed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay About A Dog
Matsumoto came out towing Naoko, now dressed in a pumpkin orange sweater and
chocolate brown pants, and positioned her in front of the mirrors.
There! You look surprisingly attractive in fall colors, the older woman said with her
hands on her hips, looking pleased.
Naoko gave herself a once over, I prefer winter colors myself, but I suppose this is
okay. Are we done now?
Okay? You are hard to please, The blonde pouted. Shopping is supposed to be fun,
how are you not having fun?
The Quincy plucked at the sweater, Shopping for clothes isn t really my thing.
Yumichika stepped up, Is there some place you want to shop at?
The bookstore, Naoko said without hesitation. And a shoe store.

Naoko sat down on the hard wood bench and patted the paper bag of newly bought
books sitting at her feet. Shopping for clothes and shoes might be tedious and
maddening but book shopping was something Naoko could do all day. Walking up
and down aisles of towering bookcases crammed with books of every genre and
subject never ceased to give her joy and peace.
You certainly look happier now, Yumichika said as he took a seat beside her.
She smiled at him, I am now that I ve got what I want.
That s good, you looked like you were going to stab Matsumoto with a stiletto heel,
he joked though his assessment wasn t too far off the mark.
The Quincy had reached her limit and luckily Yumichika saw that and gently
guided (read: dragged away) her out of the store and to the nearest bookseller. The
trip hadn t been entirely fruitless and she had walked away with a new set of boots
that she might not actually chew up later. Not to mention the new books she
procured from her venture into her store of choice, she d have to make room on her
bookcase.
Naoko and Yumichika watched Matsumoto flit from shelf to shelf like a bee in a
blooming garden looking at all the shoes while an exasperated Hitsugaya futilely
tried to stop her. It was an amusing sight to witness a small boy try to stop a full
grown woman.
Realizing they had a moment alone together Naoko
The Relationship Between North American Free Trade...
Q1. Examine the various types of regional economic integration. What are the
differences between the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the
European Union s level of integration?(2 pages maximum)
Regional economic integration represents agreements between countries in a
geographic region to reduce tariff and non tariff barriers to the free flow of goods,
services and factors of production between each other. Neighboring countries tend to
ally because of their proximity to one another, somewhat similar regional tastes, the
relative ease of establishing channels of distribution and a willingness to cooperate
with one another for the greater benefit of all allied parties. Theoretically, the concept

Customs Union eliminates trade barriers between member countries and adopts a
common external trade policy. Custom union provides for economic cooperation as
in a free trade zone. The primary difference between customs union and free trade
area involves members agreeing to treat trade with non members countries in a
similar manner. Most countries who enter a customs union often desire further
integration in the future. For example, the Andean Pact (for agreements between
Bolivia, Columbia, Ecuador, and Peru).
Common Market allows for the creation of economically integrated markets
between member countries. Trade barriers are removed, as are any restrictions on
the movement of labor and capital between member countries. Like customs union,
there is a common trade policy for trade with non member nations. The primary
advantage of common markets is workers are no longer needing visa or work permit
to work in another member country of a common market. For example, The Common
Market for Eastern and Southern Africa or simply known as COMESA.
Economic Union occurs when countries enter into an economic agreement to remove
barriers to trade and adopt common economic policies. European Union or simply
known as the EU is an example of economic union.
The European Union or simply known as the EU is often viewed as an emerging
Antigo Silt Loam
Many states have a selected state flower, tree, rock, bird, insect, wildlife animal,
etc. The list continues for state symbols, but I have selected the state soil.
Wisconsin is fortunate to call Antigo Silt Loam the official state soil because its
significance and importance it brings to the state. Francis D. Hole was a soil
science professor at the University of Wisconsin Madison and he stressed the
importance of making it the official soil of Wisconsin. Antigo Silt Loam became the
official state soil of Wisconsin in 1983, by the State Legislature. They wanted to
remind us how important soil is to the development of the state. The soil is mostly
known in Wisconsin for the characteristics of being productive, well drained, and a
soil with a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I discussed early in the essay about the productiveness of the soil and its
contribution to many crops in Wisconsin. I strongly feel Antigo Silt Loam is a big
contributor to the successfulness of agricultural crops and the entire agriculture
sector. The reputation of the heartland for all Americanism has another basis fertile
soil and productive agriculture. As the glaciers came down from Lake Superior
they collected material along the way and carried it throughout Wisconsin. When
the glaciers started melting 11,000 years ago they left behind the mineral debris
while they were forming. Sand and gravel were the two main minerals that
contributed to the development of Antigo Silt Loam after the melting of the
glaciers took place. And the core of North America is exceptionally fertile, thanks
in large part to deposits laid down by continental ice sheets and their meltwaters.
Agriculture, since the founding of the republic, has not been just food production
but also a mythic way of life, idealized and romanticized over. A layer of clay and
silt blew over the exposed land surface topping off the sandy horizon. Strong winds
deposited feet of silty loess and loamy outwash on top of the sand and gravel. When
the soil started to develop under the northern hardwood forest, it produced a layer of
organic material and a clay enriched
The Munich Massacre Essay
The Munich Massacre
As soon as Ilana Romana heard about the situation in Munich, she expected the
worst: I knew who he was. He would not sit quietly. He was not the type. I knew it
would end badly. She spoke of her husband, and, unfortunately, her prediction was
correct. Earlier that day, her husband, Yossef, and his teammates were awoken by
Arab terrorists beginning an episode that would result in the death of eleven Israeli
athletes and forever scar the 1972 Olympics, leaving the games to be remembered
for the years to come as the Munich Massacre. Most Germans hoped that the 1972
Olympics would help to heal the racial damage caused by the 1936 Olympics. It was

At approximately four o clock in the morning on September 5, 1972 (six days
before the end of the games), Yossef Gutfreund, a 275 pound wrestling referee,
reacted to the sound of Arab voices behind the door of the apartment where he and
other Israeli athletes were staying. The terrorists had accessed the building unnoticed
as they were dressed in athletic warm ups and carried their weapons in gym bags.
Gutfreund quickly alerted his roommates that something was wrong and proceeded to
push his body against the door in an effort to prevent Arab entrance.
His efforts were successful for only a few moments, however, as the Arabs soon
entered the apartment, immediately taking five Israelis hostage. It was at this time
that Romana, in an effort to save his teammates, took a knife out of the kitchen and
stabbed one of the gunmen. Moments later, he and wrestling coach Moshe
Weinberger were each shot several times, resulting in the first casualties of the
morning.
Approximately an hour after the attack began, the terrorists left, having killed two
Israeli team members and capturing nine. Due to the unanticipated chaos and
struggle, the terrorists failed to locate eight other team members in the neighboring
apartments. Within the next hour, the Arabs had issued a set of demands, and had
thrown Weinberger s body into the street.

Value Chain System
VALUE CHAIN SYSTEM
The value chain concept was created by Michael Porter and explained in his book
Competitive Advantage , published in 1980. The value chain is a series of activities
that create and build value culminating in the contribution of total value to the
organization. Porter used the concept of value chain as a systematic approach to
examining the development of an organization s competitive advantage in the
marketplace.
In using the value chain concept, the total activities undertaken by a business are split
into Primary Activities and Support Activities. Primary activities relate to inbound
logistics, operations, outbound logistics, marketing and sales, and service. Support

First Amendment Pros And Cons
As the primary law of the land, the Constitution establishes all succeeding laws that
would cater to the development and progress of a nation. The United States, with
almost half a millennia of political practice has created for itself a system spanning
the entire modern free world. The overarching idea embodied in the organic law is
its simplicity to be necessarily understood by the common American. However we
must understand that in the interpretation of its jargon; the fabled words of the
Supreme give the full spectrum as how the legal lexicon is applied; especially in
the protection and promulgation of our rights. The first amendment shall be read as
follows: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the

All five share one principle, the citizen s right of expression. The First Congress
set this above all else since such are the guarantees of a democratic system of
governance, the means of expression are methods of individual expression but as
well as a form of healthy dialogue between the governing and the governed.
Understanding the concept of the first amendment s exercise, it cannot be
considered an absolute guarantee for in cases such as Schneck v. US (1919),
Abrams v. US (1919), Debs v. US (1919), Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire (1945) and
the like, the Supreme Court curtails absolute exercise since because it must be
understood that the guarantees are primarily in the protection from government
infarctions especially by congressional acts. The only restriction, as an exception, is
that individual states may enact laws that only regulate these rights through the
maxim my rights end where your rights begin like that of Miller vs. California
(1973) and Hustler Magazine v. Falwell

A Descriptive Essay On The Beach.pdf

  • 1. A Descriptive Essay On The Beach Crafting a descriptive essay on the beach can be both a delightful and challenging endeavor. On one hand, the beach offers a myriad of sensory experiences - the soothing sound of waves crashing, the warm touch of sand beneath your feet, the salty breeze kissing your skin, and the vibrant hues of the sun setting on the horizon. Describing these sensations allows for a vivid and immersive portrayal of the coastal environment. However, the challenge lies in translating these sensory impressions into words. Capturing the essence of the beach requires a careful selection of adjectives, metaphors, and similes to evoke the desired emotions in the reader. Striking a balance between being descriptive and not overwhelming the reader with a barrage of details is an art in itself. Additionally, maintaining a coherent structure to guide the reader through the essay while still infusing creativity can be a delicate task. Moreover, finding a unique perspective on a well-known topic like the beach can pose a challenge. Countless essays have been written about beaches, making it imperative to approach the task with originality. Balancing the universal appeal of the beach with personal experiences and insights adds complexity to the writing process. In conclusion, while the subject matter of a beach provides a rich canvas for descriptive writing, the task of crafting an essay on this topic demands a thoughtful and nuanced approach. Striving for originality, managing sensory details, and maintaining a captivating flow are essential aspects that contribute to the complexity of writing an engaging and memorable descriptive essay. • 2. Essay about Pike River Mining Disaster Pike River Mining Disaster A Case Study On the 19th of September 2010, what was to become known as the Pike River Mining Disaster began in the close proximity to the town of Greymouth. At an occupied mine of 31 miners and contractors, an initial explosion occurred in the West Coast Region of New Zealand s South Island at approximately 3:44pm. Two were fortunate enough to walk away from the scene and were treated for moderate injuries at hospital, then later released the next day. It was believed that the remaining 16 miners and 13 contractors were 1500m from the entrance of the mine. A second large explosion occurred on November 24thand all hope was lost that anybody remained alive. Based on the expert evidence that I ve been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 24 of the men were New Zealanders, 2 Scottish, 2 Australians, amp; 1 South African. The cause of what triggered the explosions still remains uncertain and the Royal Commission of Inquiry is expected to reveal its findings by March 2012. Because it is a matter of very significant public interest, the Royal Commission is taking charge, the highest status of inquiry in New Zealand. The bodies of the men remain trapped in the mine and the recovery effort was abandoned in January 2011 as it was deemed unsafe. Pike River Mining Disaster Nature of the Change The Pike River Mining Disaster wasn t predicted and therefore led to unplanned changes in the Greymouth community and Pike River Mine Ltd. The Pike River Mine stopped operating during the explosions and in the aftermath due to the enquiry taking place. Solid Energy, Kiwi Rail, the Port of Lyttelton and a shipping company, all involved in the transportation of the mine s coal were impacted by the disaster, lacking business from the mine. Pike River Mine stopped operating, halting the extraction of coal from the mine, and a loss of jobs to a large sector of the Greymouth community. Families have to leave the community in search of new occupations, affecting other businesses in the area relying on the occupants business. The changes resulting because of the disaster are numerous. It is foolish to even begin to imagine what the families of the miners are experiencing. Then there is the Greymouth
  • 3. Human Activities Effects On The Oceans And Its Ecosystem... Mid term Project: Ocean Activities Humans are killing the oceans, or are they? There are many opposing viewpoints to the controversial topic of human activities effects on the oceans and its ecosystem being displayed on social media. According to Louise Gerdes the author of Endangered Oceans: Opposing Viewpoints It is not difficult to find different opinions (9). There are many different outputs of media that have different points of view and it can be extraordinarily difficult in deciding which opinion to agree with and which experts seem the most credible (9). With so many concepts, various articles, and so much research out there it is hard to get a strong informed opinion about how human activity is or is not effecting the ocean and its ecosystem. Endangered Oceans: Opposing Viewpoints; goal is to help the average reader form an educated opinion or to help strengthen the opinion of the average reader by supplying opposing views in articles about the topic written by credible people. According to Louise Gerdes all of the articles used in Endangered Oceans: Opposing Viewpoints have credible authors. Two of the articles that stand out are Human Activities Threaten the World s Oceans and Coastal Regions by Anne Platt McGinn who is a senior researcher for the World watch Institute (19) and the article Human Efforts Are Improving the Condition of the World s Oceans and Coastal Regions by Frank E. Loy who is under secretary for Global Affairs, U.S. Department of state (28).
  • 4. The New World Order There are many topics that may labeled as unproven belief, whether there is truly lack of information to cover it or the information on such topics is highly classified. One of the main unproven beliefs that catch everyone s attention is the New World Order assuming that there is nearly 1% of the citizens, so called elite power, who own 90% of the world, including realty, factories and governments. There has not been much information on One World Order until recently, when a mass leak slipped into journalists hands. This is a nightmare for an average American, as so many people have lost their beloved in the 9/11 attack and every American still remembers what they were doing at the exact moment when they ve heard about the attack. If people admit that the attack was planned by, let s say Rockefeller family and other members of Bilderberg group, this means that whatever the country was fighting for was fake. This means that this War on Terror that American has led for more than a decade is a fraud, planned by the Bilderberg group in order to invade other countries resources. The One World Order proponents also believe that among the main purposes of the elite power is reduce the world population at least by half. This actually reminds of Nazis again and the interesting thing is how they decide who is going to die or live. (Axelrod,

Why Is Socrates The Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living The storyline of Socrates the unexamined life is not worth living has played out a historically with the controversy of evolution and the belief in God. Most people who believe in God believe think he put everything on Earth and not the theory of Evolution that things evolved over time. Socrates was accused of his findings that he did not believe in God because he challenged the work of God. The unexamined life is not worth living because if we live life the way other people want us to live and go by their beliefs the world would be boring and too uniformed. I think that a different view about everything is very important because we learn to agree and disagree whereas back in Socratestime people were exiled for speaking out on things that

You notice that for certain blocked inscriptions of the text, red and gray paint in the style of graffiti buffing has obscured them from view. That translated mural, presented by Open Space galleries, tells the story of the flood for the Cree Nation. Created in 2013 by a young indigenous artist named Jesse Campbell. As a student, you don t have many opportunities to create a large scale piece of art and have it displayed in a public place. But here in Victoria a program exists for indigenous youth artists where you can do just that. The Indigenous Youth ArtsProgram, created by the Open Space arts society, provides this environment. A studio where young indigenous artists can experiment and create grand scale artwork. Every two weeks mentors and participants meet to explore and work on their respective projects. The Indigenous mentors are artists in their fields, who share their knowledge and ability with the students. The program is flexible, with drop in opportunities to come for a few sessions or stay for the full program. Jesse Campbell, a former student of the program in 2013, who is now the co ordinator of the program, says, the mentors are fortunate to be a part of the program, and consider the student s lucky to have access to such a resource. A place that cultivates and enriches indigenous artists, by giving them direction and opportunity to explore
  • 7. The Internet Plagiarism Explosion Essay A great deal has been published in the media about the explosion of Internet plagiarism among high school and college students. Because the Internet is so young, there have been few studies conducted on the extent of Internet plagiarism. However, existing studies do show that the Internet is an extremely popular tool students use to cheat on written assignments. In any group of students, some will choose the path of academic dishonesty and copythe words or ideas of another person without giving credit to the author. The advent of the Internet has opened new waysfor students to plagiarize written material. Not only can students copy material from individual Web sites, but they can use an online paper mill to pay for and receive an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some, including www.collegetermpapers.com, offer papers for free. (All of these sites were found in a search for term papers using the Google search engine.) Although papers are readily available for downloading from paper mills, the quality of those papers is usually poor. An investigative report conducted by U.S. News World Report evaluated the quality of four papers purchased from Internet mills. University professors evaluated each of the papers and judged their quality to be mediocre at best (Kleiner, 1999, para. 4). Studies reach conflicting conclusions on the extent of plagiarism and cheating in American high schools and colleges. An article in the Toronto Star cites a study conducted by Who s Who Among American High School Students that found that four fifths of high school students surveyed reported cheating (Walker, 2001, para. 28). The Center for Academic Integrity found that 72 percent of high school students admit to serious cheating on written assignments and over 50 percent plagiarized material from the Internet (CAI Research, 2001, para. 7). The Los Angeles Times paraphrased the founder of the Center for Academic Integrity: Although a majority of high school students admit cheating at one time or another, technological advances such as the Internet have not had a significant effect on the overall number of cheaters. • 8. Us Involvement In The Cold War I believe that the United States involvement in the Cold War had a significant influence on the debate as well as the Supreme Court decision of the Brown v. Board of Education case. After the Civil War ended, the Confederate states were in desperate need of repair; consequently, the Reconstruction Period began, when the federal government of the United Statesforced the states of the Deep South to outlaw slavery and put great pressure on these states to reform their laws accordingly. It is during this time, the second half of the nineteenth century, that the Deep South states began to pass laws that segregated races in public and encouraged oppression of primarily blacks. The segregation of races in the Deep South continued to worsen until it came to the boiling point with the Brown v. Board of Education Case, which ultimately would decide the fate of segregation laws in the South. Although it is obvious that segregation is wrong and that the decision made by the Supreme Court was without question the right one, the Cold War certainly did factor into the discussion of segregation and race relations in the United States. This is due primarily to the fact that the United States spearheaded the ideas of freedom and democracy as the best foundations to for a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Board of Education, the US would be able to use the decision as a weapon to gain global influence. Global influence was a key component of the Cold War, and so the Supreme Court s decision would allow the United States to use it as proof that a free democracy is the best type of government over Soviet communism. This was another factor that played into the debate that encouraged the Supreme Court to outlaw segregation. Overall, although the Supreme Court s decision was fundamentally the correct decision to make, the benefits of the decision stretched beyond human rights in the United

  • 10. Dollar vs. Euro 1. Introduction Since the appearance of the EURO (ВЂ) in the international trading system, the American dollar ($) has lost its domination and role in the financial world. Consequently, there is not only a great disparity in the exchange rate between the two currencies in favor of the EURO, but a growing problem in the US economy as well. Table 1, which can be found in Appendix B, shows the course and relationship of the exchange rates of the two currencies from 1999 until now. The scope of this paper is to approach as best as possible the various reasons for this disparity and try to predict the future of the two currencies based on accurate and up to date information. At this point, the authors would like to make clear that they do not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this point we should clarify that the exchange rates are influenced by the combination of the reasons mentioned above. Nevertheless, we will try to break them down and examine them individually. 2.Interest Rates One of the most important factors that affect and change the exchange rates is the interest rates, which are announced by the FED and the ECB. With the terms FED and ECB, we refer to the Federal Reserve System and to the European Central Bank. The former is the central banking system of the United States, whereas the latter is one of the world s most important central banks. However, both of them are responsible for the monetary policies in the countries or states that they are consisted of, by setting a wide variety of rates, in order to stabilize their economies. The two main and general rates which affect the exchange rates are the borrowing rate and the deposit rate. Currently, the rates for the United States are 5.25% and 5.25% respectively, whereas for the Eurozone the rates are 5% and 4% respectively. This means in simple and broad words that it might be more profitable for someone to borrow money from the Eurozone, since he will have a gain of 0.25%, but it will be more profitable if

Exploring the Factors Contributing to the Development of the Cold War There were several factors which led to the development of the Cold War. In this essay I will discuss the disagreement over Polandand Truman s personality. Disagreement over how Poland should be governed was a very important factor in the development of the Cold War. Churchill, Britain and Roosevelt, USA wanted Poland to be democratic whereas Stalin wanted to make sure that Poland s new government was friendly towards the USSR. The Yalta Agreement had tried to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This clash of ideas was important as it harmed the relation between the countries, and therefore led to a Cold War developing. The British and the Americans were also horrified by Russia s behaviour regarding the Warsaw uprising. When the London Poles (the anti Soviet potential government) decided to seize control of part of Poland, the Soviet army did nothing to help them although they were very close. As a result, it was brutally destroyed by the Germans and almost 300,000 Poles were killed in the process. Again, this harmed the relation between Britain and America and the USSR. At Yalta, they tried to resolve the problems concerning the government of Poland and Polish land. The borders of Poland were altered without too much problem and it was agreed that the Lublin government in Poland was to be expanded to include some London Poles as well and that free elections would be held as soon as possible. However, this was not put into practice; Stalin only talked about bringing non communists into Poland without carrying it out and Molotov, the Foreign Minister rejected the idea of letting the London Poles have a significant role in the government. This led to extreme disappointment because people had thought that Stalin would allow western style governments to be set up in Eastern Europe and it also meant that people lost
  • 12. Essay on Media Advertising The Absolut Advertising Campaign Texts are political. Political in the sense that they produce messages that carry specific ideas and beliefs targeted toward a certain thinking body of people. A familiar phrase in America is, art imitates life. It defines life as essential to art, but can we say the reverse? Could life imitate art? The semantics of the phrase seem too ambiguous for such a statement. What is the definition of art, of life? The phrase suggests that art reinforces cultural and social beliefs by using the verb imitate. If art imitates life, then life imitates art. The verb is reflexive and positioned in the middle of the two words it is reflecting. It is true then, the language speaks for itself, and this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The campaign has been in progress for about twenty years, and has been called the most successful ad campaign in American history. [2] The standard image of the Absolut bottle is recognizable by many people, and has purposely been reproduced in every ad establishing it as a social symbol in America. Each advertisement includes a culturally significant person, place, object, or idea along side the standard bottle. Absolut Vodka ads reveal mixed messages about culture to their audience masked on the surface by a culturally significant artifact. The most successful ad campaign in American history is characterized by an overwhelming number of individual ads that are separated into genres. When looking at a series of ads, we have a better idea of the cultural significance attached to the images. The text exists in relation to others. The image of the Absolut bottle has become a cultural icon, and the advertising aim is to make it recognizable as a distinct symbol of class to everyone who sees it. In order to make sense of the ad, the reader must identify the vodka bottle within the text. This expectation relies on the network of ads that have preceded it. Instant identification of the symbol makes the reader of an Absolut ad a member of an exclusive club. The Absolut Vodka ad campaign aims to enroll everyone as a member of this club
  • 13. The Consumption Of Fats Plays A Key Role On The... During pregnancy, the consumption of fats plays a key role in the development of the fetus. A dietary fat is an essential nutrient that helps the body function by providing protection, fuel and absorption for cells, tissues and organs. The fats consumed are Triglycerides and the mechanism behind this process is for lipoprotein lipase (LPL) to break the triglycerides into smaller components. They mostly contain fatty acids, cholesterol, fatsoluble vitamins and other lipids that will be delivered to target tissues for performing activities, or stored as fat if not directly used. The increased consumption of triglycerides can raise bloodlipid levels such as low density lipoprotein (LDL) that promotes the risk of developing cardiovascular... The authors revealed that A, Uterine artery (Uta) PI is 0.74 in a representative control animal. B, The Uta PI is 1.17 in a representative HFD S animal with a Doppler waveform that demonstrates decreased diastolic flow consistent with increased vascular impedance when compared with A. (1) The study is suggesting that the accumulation of fat molecules in the placenta restricted the blood to flow through. Moreover, Insufficient oxygen and nutrients from the placental can interfere with the growth of the fetus. The immunohistochemistry, confirmed no TLR4 staining in the chorionic villous stroma in control placentas. Conversely, there were increased levels of TLR4 staining in chorionic villous stroma and syncytiotrophoblast in HFD placentas. (1) The TLR4 is a protein pathway responsible for activating the fetus immune system by providing a supply of nutrients and protection. However, constant irritation of circulating blood lipids within this pathway has changed the function of the protein, becoming vulnerable to the hazardous environment. At the same time, the TLR4 in both parts of the placenta of the mother and fetus has developed inflammation. Although this study was on non human primates, we can still see similarities when comparing structures of the human uterus. Critically,

  • 17. Analysis Of 23 Clown Street Fortunately, the novel reclaims momentum and suspense as Ed is tasked with Ace of Spades, particularly 23 Clown Street. The second assignment, 23 Clown Street, provides the audience insight regarding Beverly s (Ma) hatred towards Ed and the legacy of his father. Initially, Zusak creates apprehension as Ed visits Melusso s restaurant various times without any change. Apprehension escalates as a conflict is introduced: Ed s mother dines with another man. This moment transcends the need for language, and empathy is truly established. Zusak allows for the audience to experience the shock, anger, and sadness in which Ed is enduring. Ed s confrontation with Ma at her house creates tension as Ed finally questions her hatred. Unsurprisingly, Ma mercilessly scorns Ed to the extent that the audience experiences the excruciating pain and confusion that Ed endures. This portrayed flawlessly through characterization and powerful figurative language that truly captures the intensity of Ed s emotions. However, Zusak bewilders the readers as Ed finally rises up to his mother. This scene provides satisfaction to the audience as he exclaims every thought, emotion that has been concealed within him. Simultaneously, the audience witnesses a significant progression of Ed s character as he no longer accepts the criticism of his mother. However, it is Ed s epiphany of the definition of success which astonishes the readers as they bear witness to Ed s development. Undoubtedly, this incident enlightens the audience with several motifs /notions. Notably, Zusak depicts the seemingly simple notion that success /satisfaction is not dependent on location but rather on the individual itself. Formerly, Ed firmly upheld the idea that his mediocrity was due to his current location. Such is illustrated as Ed states, I m typical of many of the young men you see in this suburban outpost of the city not a whole lot of prospects or possibility (6). It is evident that location greatly influences Ed s mindset regarding prospects and fortitude. Similarly, Ma also shares the same outlook on success as she states, The voice is dark. And your father he promised me that one day...We re still here. I m here. You re here, and just like your old man

In Thrymskvida, the author recounts a story about the recovery of Thor s hammer from the giant Thrym. To get back the hammer, Loki sets foot in Jötunheimr, where he negotiates with Thrym, who demands the goddess Freyja to be his wife as an exchange. However, when Freyja refuses, much to the annoyance of Thor, he has to pretend by dressing up as her. When Thor complains, Loki scolds him and says, be quite, Thor, ... / The giant will be settling in Asgard / unless you get your hammer back (Larrington, 2008, pp. 99). Here, Loki s warning indicates his allegiance to the Aesir over the giants. Interestingly, being notoriously known for his short temper, Thor does not lash out against Loki when he orders him to be quite. In fact, Thor willingly obeys his request because Thor senses the truth that without the hammer, the safety of Asgard will be jeopardized. With the help of Loki, Thor manages to get back his hammer in the end. This story demonstrates how much the Aesir trust Loki so that they make him as their travel companion, whom they seek an advice

My leadership hall of fame showed me that leadership style dominates my Hall of Fame list. The three words most prevalent on my list were dependable, conscientious, and trustworthy. My list included mainly teachers and coaches from my youth and the main reason they are the ones that come to mind has to do with the relationships that were built. The lyrics of the song depict the stories of three young girls of different ages, Lisa, Nicole, and Erica, who are undergoing extreme cases of abuse at home and in their personal lives. This is attributed to the single parenthomes in which the girls live, where their mothers are either never home, mommas always gone , or incapable of caring for and providing for a child, momma s on drugs getting high up in the kitchen . In order for human sin to be covered, a human sacrifice is all that could meet the requirement ordained by God, yet, they had to be sinless. Only the incarnate God could fulfill this role, exhibiting qualities of God Himself, such as selflessness, unconditional love, and purity. Another core trait was humbleness, although Jesusheld the highest status in all the world, which shone brightly in His ministry, as He also served the children of God. Paul captured the essence of Jesus as God and the reality of the incarnation in these verses, let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who being in the form of God...made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men (Philippians 2:5 7, NKJV). Johannine literature truly portrays Jesus as God, with the theme of His deity interwoven throughout numerous passages. In this respect, John s style differs from the other four gospels, as Bickel Jantz (1998) point out that the other three had been written prior to John s gospel, therefore, he wasn t interested in just retelling the events (p. 222). Once inside the target vessel, IVUS obtains 360 degrees cross sectional images. The sonic wave reflections from the arterial wall differ depending on the structure of the arterial wall components. Collagen and elastin produce a stronger sonic reflection thus a hyper echoic picture of the intima and adventitia, whilst the smooth muscle cells in the media produce a hypo echoic picture due to reduced sonic reflection from these structures (Kpodonu et al., 2008). New generation IVUS devices can produce three dimensional pictures by stacking the two dimensional axial images during pull back of the US catheter. The pull back could be done either manually or mechanically using a motor. 3 D images are useful in assessment of endovascular device deployment failures, which might not be detected in conventional angiographies. 3 D images are also helpful in sizing of the arteries and veins for endovascular device planning (Weissman et al., 1995; Heuser et al., 1997). This is to say that, while the biological need to reproduce drives the death instinct, any awareness of the purpose (or expression) of this need cannot be internalized. Likewise, one cannot be aware of their biological imperative (per the organic cell) for immortality through reproduction; these desires and instincts are not repressed, they are beyond the scope of human comprehension. Moving on to the next column, the imaginary, the ego instincts, and the conscious cell are linked together as they lie within the realm of unarticulated (but articulable) identifications and idealisations which are the building blocks of fantasy and ego; it is the most
  • 37. Kant s Categorical Imperative For The Practice Of Modern... Hamza Rafique 15 June 2014 Should Kant s categorical imperative be supported in the practice of modern medicine? Introduction Immanuel Kant saw the importance of autonomy long before the field of medicine was as advanced as it is now through the second formulation of his categorical imperative: Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of any other, never merely as a means to an end, but always at the same time as an end . Kant recognises that it is autonomy that allows for self actualisation and the manifestation of one s identity through having the capacity to make self governed choices. Therefore autonomy factor that gives humans the duty to treat each other as ends and to violate the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kant provides us with these ethical guidelines however there are cases in medicine which illustrate that a physician s expertise allows him to see that following a patient s autonomous decision may lead to further suffering causing the health professional to take a paternalistic course of action. This ethical problem has lead me to investigate whether medical practice should uphold Kant s categorical imperative, and if not where should we search for a way forward? I intend to analyse Kant s ethics to see where its strengths and weaknesses lie when applied to the medical field before exploring other ethical theories in an attempt to find the most suitable means of decision making in medicine. I will use case studies to illustrate the point that Kant s ethics, although perfect for an ideal world, does not work in the medical field, nor does a utilitarian approach. This leads us toward an intuitionist stance in order to keep the benefits of the categorical imperative offers us while maintaining applicability to medicine. How could the categorical imperative work in medicine? The categorical imperative does have strength in its principled and high minded nature that can be condensed down into the following three formulations: Act only according to that maxim whereby you can at the same time will that it should become a universal law without contradiction. Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in
  • 38. Characteristics Of A Bureaucracy As society has grown over the years, people have continued to group themselves together in unique ways to accomplish certain goals. One of these formal groups, studied and named by Max Weber, is called a bureaucracy (Larkin, 2015). A bureaucracy is defined as A type of formal organization, most often a governmental organization made up of nonelected members, the constituent parts of which are integrated to accomplish a specific goal, task, or production outcome in the most efficient manner (Larkin, 2015). In American society, bureaucracies exist in countless forms and are found in almost every walk of life. As a student at Grand Canyon University, Associate Students of Grand Canyon University (ASGCU) is a formal bureaucracythat many students are familiar with on campus. ASGCU is the standing student government organization at GCU and meets the characteristics of a bureaucracy by having specialization, a hierarchical authority structure, emphasis on written rules and regulations to be followed, written communication, and an emphasis on credentials and technical competence. The first characteristic of a bureaucracy is specialization and ASGCU fits this characteristic in several ways including clearly written job descriptions and the various teams that exist to accomplish specific goals. ASGCU is split into three branches: the legislative, administrative, and executive branch. Each branch is split into teams such as the public relations, the senate, marketing, internal

Somalia history can be traced back as far as the Paleolithic period. (Funk Wagnalls, 1900) Ancient structures, ruined cities, and stone walls found in Somalia, is evidence of a country that once thrived with a sophisticated civilization (p. 132). Somalia is a country that was once known for its rich geographical location located near oil wells in the Persian Gulf and a mainstream for international imports and exports along the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean. Unfortunately, clans are an invitation to divide and rule politics as well. During the British and Italian rule of Somalia in the early to mid nineteenth century, clans were not seen as a growing problem. The British and Italians used clans to their advantage to help keep the country stable. In the mid nineteenth century, the British introduced democracy in Somalia, which created many political parties within Somalia. Control of Somalia would then be debated for many years between the weak democratic political parties in Somalia. This instability in Somalia opened the doors for General Mohammed Siad Barre, who would eventually defeat the fragile democratic political parties in Somalia. In 1969, General Mohammed Siad Barre became president of Somalia and declared Somalia a socialist state. Backed by the U.S. who supported the Siad Barre regime, with economic, diplomatic, and military power, which eventually fell into the hands of the militant clans, Siad Barre dictatorship turned the clan politics of divide and rule into a bloodbath. Using his own militant clans, Siad Barre murdered thousand of opposing clan members creating a war zone in Somalia that pitted clans against each other fighting for power and control. The first scene of the first act of King Lear had a genuinely dramatic affect upon me. This first glimpse into the world of Lear and his subordinates sets the premise for the whole play, unravelling within the first few pages, themes which I believe will become increasingly evident. The scene opens with the introduction of three characters Kent, Gloucester and Edmund. Of these three characters the only one who seems not to have been shown in an unfavourable light yet, by this brief introduction, is Kent. This could be intentional to set It is made clear Edmund is a bastard, and therefore illegible for proper acknowledgement as the son of an Earl. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this point of the scene it can be clearly noticed how similar Goneril and Regan are, as Regan asks Lear to measure her worth as he measured Goneril s. This closeness seems symbolic in a way to the close knit coven in Macbeth, as these women seem to have underlying deceptive qualities. Before considering Cordelia s answer to Lear, we must note her comments made during Goneril and Regan s speeches . This is keen use of the aside speech by Shakespeare as the audience would be able to hear Cordelia s confusion over what her response shall be and her truthful belief that her love is more ponderous than her tongue. Her indecision over what to say to her father shows really how much she does not want to offend him, but instead she does the opposite, as he cannot see beyond his pride, to her loyal words. When she says Nothing , she is indicating to him that he should no the worth of her love for him. The king, shocked with this appearance of ingratitude in his favourite child, desired her to consider her words, and to mend her speech, lest it should mar her fortunes. Cordelia then tells Lear that she loves him according to her station, and as much as he loves her as his daughter. She is as she says young...and true . Lear is obviously hurt but it seems, due to the severity of his actions, that his pride and title have been harmed more. He disowns her and she becomes his sometime daughter . At this point Kent intervenes on Cordelia s behalf

The Reflection Of Working In An Enterprise Environment Throughout the semester, I worked at Central Community School District 301 in the information technology department and worked on many different projects. This experience was very impactful because it taught things that classes have a hard time doing or and not able to teach at all. Working in an enterprise environment took all the information that I have gained from computer science classes and focused them into one point. Which is, to be able to work on a team and to be able to create and understand enterprise level software. Most of my time at CCUSD 301 included of me working on self hosted internal education tools for teacher and student use, and creating and updating different automation task that made some manual time consume task, very easy or non existence at all or working on self hosted learning programs for teacher and student use. One of the first projects was for me to make a program that took a picture from a camera renamed it to a normalized name convention and then move it to the correct directory, so that a ID printing software could select the correct picture to print it on the ID. When I first received this project I was thinking, this will be easy because it was just like I did in CSCI 330, UNIX and Network Programming. The only problem was that it had to run on a Windows server and not Linux. Pythonwas already installed on the server for another task, so my manager said that I could use it or any other scripting language that I felt most comfortable with. I chose Python because I did not know many other languages at the time and because I just started taking CSCI 490K which was a classabout Python to solve different problems. After doing research and getting assistant from other members of the team I was able to test and complete the program. Throughout the semester, I came back to this script to refine it after learning new concepts in class to make it more efficient and handle errors better. One of the next projects, also one of the largest was for me to make a new script that interfaced with a Google for education administrator console API in order to manage 8,000 Chromebooks. Baby boomers are ending their employment life cycle and transitioning into retirement, leaving Millennials as the soon to be dominant generation in the workforce. By 2020, more than 46% of labour will be provided by these millennials. (Weber, 2016) As this transition begins, a new trend within the workforce has also begun. Modern workers are no longer spending their entire career with one employer. In fact, according to data from the Bureau of Labour Statistics, the average worker today only stays at each of his or her jobs for 4.4 years. However, the expected tenure of the workforce s youngest employees is about half of that. Ninety one percent of Millennials (born between 1977 1997) expect to stay in a job for less than three years, meaning they would have 15 to 20 jobs over the course of their working lives. (Meister, 2012) With career development and work life balance on the forefront of the millennial mind, gone is the era of employers using base salary in order to compete for the worker talent pool. They now have to consider the total compensation package, which includes all forms of money, benefits, services, and other perks eligible to the employee when competing with other firms, as modern employees have begun to place just as strong of an importance on benefits as they do salary. Gothic literature is a style which is very present in Edgar Allen Poe s The Fall of the House of Usher . In Poe s short story, the narrator is the one to figure out/ imply that these twins are telepathic. Usher locks up his twin sister and claims to here her cries for help louder and sooner than the narrator, suggesting their hidden powers (Poe, 29). By suggesting Usher and his sisters spiritual unity, aspects of Gothic literature are emphasized, providing evidence for the story to fall under the category of Gothic literature. Through analyzing House Taken Over , it can be said that the short story is an example of magical realism. Although not directly stated what, siblings are being haunted by a supernatural force in the time of late WWII, this haunting is dangerous and causes siblings to abandon their once cherished house (Cortazar, 42). The fact that the story takes place in 1946 Argentina right after WWII drives the assumption that these events may have taken place, a common understanding in magical realism. The purpose of addition of the supernatural in both styles is used to entertain the reader and/ or to add some sort of meaning to the text. In gothic text it is meant to allow the reader to delve into their own dark and mysterious thoughts.
