Mercutio In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
There are many different characteristics that can qualify a person as a true friend. Everyone has
different ideas about what these characteristics are, but many people would say that a true friend is
trustworthy, altruistic, and loving. In his famous play, Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare
conveys the importance of true friendship through the character Mercutio, who has a caring, selfless,
and honest personality.
Mercutio is a sincere friend because he is selfless and will do almost anything for his friends. When
Tybalt visits the Montagues and a fight breaks out, Mercutio tells Tybalt make haste, lest mine be
about your ears ere it be out (3.1.76 77). By utilizing the phrase make haste, Shakespeare illustrates
Mercutio as a powerful and commanding individual. Mercutio is neither Montague nor Capulet, but he
chooses to stand up for his friends and help them fight because he wants to assist the people he cares
for. A true friend will risk dignity, reputation, or, in this case, their life to support friends. ... Show

Shakespeare depicts this characteristic in many scenes, but it is most evident when Mercutio says
sometimes [Queen Mab] gallops o er a courtier s nose (1.4.79). Mercutio was telling Romeo how
Rosaline, the woman Romeo liked, was just going to break Romeo s heart. Shakespeare communicates
Mercutio s thought by referring to Queen Mab, a fairy who makes men fall in love with her while
dreaming and then break the men s hearts. According to the Oxford Dictionary Online, the definition
of caring is displaying kindness and concern for others. In this section, Mercutio is shown as a caring
friend because he is attempting to warn Romeo of what Rosaline could possibly do, which is an
example of showing

According to Mohr and Fourie (2004), the tax burden should be spread equitably among the various
taxpayers. Equitability (fairness) can be described using two principles, the ability to pay principle and
the benefits received principle.
Benefits received principle, according to Case et al (2014), is a fairness/equity theory that says citizens
should contribute in proportion to the benefits that they receive from the public expenditure. E Tolling
is a good example of this as it conforms to the benefits received principle, where e toll users pay for
their usage of the toll roads in proportion to the benefits they derive/receive. SANRAL is charging a
levy/tax that has to be paid for the usage of the road. If you use the road more than other ... Show

Tax systems should not discriminate between people within the same income range (they are similar
with respect to their ability to pay) and their tax rate should be the same. For example, income taxes
are proportional within particular income ranges. This means that citizens in the same income range
will bear the same tax burden.
Vertical equity is a principle that says citizens with a greater ability to pay taxes should pay more
(Case et al, 2014). According to Parry, I.W.H. 2008, toll fees are unfair from the perspective of vertical
equity, given that everyone faces the same toll fees regardless of their income. The poor pays the same
30c/km as the rich, even though the rich have a greater ability to pay. For example, income taxes are
progressive in nature, meaning that they conform to vertical equity. This means that higher income
earners will bear a higher tax burden while lower income earners will bear a lower tax burden.
E Toll rates are charged at a flat rate of 30c/km and this means that it s neither vertically nor
horizontally equitable. The poor ends up paying a higher proportion of their income compared to the
rich and this in turn makes e Tolling regressive, even though the rich have greater ability to pay.
The vertical and horizontal equity principles stem from the ability to pay principle and both systems
seem to be fair.

Waste Water Management
Water Quality; Wastewater Management

With the United States growing and cities becoming larger and larger day by day, communities have
been battling water shortages all throughout the country. For the past fifty or so years reclaimed water
has been used all over the world. Within the course of this case paper I will attempt to compare and
contrast the secondary water treatment methods to that of the tertiary water treatment methods.

Here s a little history behind reclaimed water. This is not something new this has been around for
almost 100 years, for instance in 1912 the first use of reclaimed water began with the irrigation of the
Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. In 1966 Florida established the Tallahassee Reclaimed Water
Farm, and because of that Florida now has 440 systems that reclaim 659 million gallons of water per
day this is more than any other state. However the question still remains is reclaim water safe?
According to the Water Reuse Foundation (2009), major studies have proven that reclaimed water is
infact safe for landscape irrigation and other purposes. Also, reclaimed water through the process that
it goes through is essentially pathogen free, sparkling clear and can safely be used by residents for
irrigation and by businesses for irrigation, cooling and other industrial purposes. It also goes on to say
that Florida leads in safety and that there has been no water related illnesses in over 40 years. Is
reclaimed water safe to drink? With populations growing and water becoming a necessity in most
areas of the world research is in effect. However we tend to cringe on the fact of actually drinking
reclaimed water because we have that preconception of reclaimed water in a toilet and then the
thought of drinking the same water. Reclaimed water is highly

Emergency Medical Technician Research Paper
Emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics care for the sick or injured in emergency
medical settings. People s lives often depend on the quick reaction and competent care provided by
these workers. EMTs and paramedics respond to emergency calls, performing medical services and
transporting patients to medical facilities (Bureau of Labor Statistics 2015). Emergency medical
technicians play a big role in early stages of emergency situations. Without them, there would be no
one to save the countless live that are in trouble. There are many steps to becoming an EMT, but it is
not difficult or time consuming to make your way to being a successful EMT.

There are many responsibilities that go along with the day to day work of an EMT. Some include
determining the right course of action after evaluating the patient s condition, and providing medical
aid to stabilize the patient s condition, like using the AED, performing CPR, preventing spinal
damage, ventilation, control severe bleeding, prevent shock, and bandage wounds. EMTs also have to
administer activated charcoal, oral glucose, narcan and oxygen. They also have to make sure they
transport the patient carefully and safely. They also have to prepare a patient care reports and calm and
assure the patient s family. If you are an Advanced EMT or Paramedic, you must also know how to
use an EKG, and know how to give medication orally, and Paramedics must know how to give
medication through the skin. The conditions and environment that EMTs work in are all different so
they can become injured or sick, if safety procedures are not followed. They may also become sick or
injured because the patient is diseased, because of heavy lifting, or because you have to endanger
themselves to get to the patient. Being an EMT is an amazing job, and there are many ways that the
job of an EMT is different from others. If one wanted to be an EMT, but they are not very

St Louis And Saint Louis
The Saint Louis Man
Throughout my six years at Saint Louis I was taught to become a Saint Louis Man. Saint Louis
molded me. They have been teaching the students how to respect all their peers, especially women for
over 165 years. Being a gentleman shows in these two traits of a Saint Louis Man, Live the golden
rule and respect all people, especially women and also the life of my brother, Alika Pilialoha Fonseca.
Outsiders look at those who attend Saint Louis as disrespectful and they do not know how to treat
women properly; however, Saint Louis prepares the men of Kalaepohaku to be gentlemen to all people
especially women in college and the workforce.
The character of a Saint Louis Man are instilled into our everyday lives from school, to the real world
and ongoing into our life as adults . One of the traits that exemplifies respecting women is the golden
rule, treat others the way you want to be treated . The teachings we learn at Saint Louis is to imagine if
someone mistreats one of your female family members or spouse, wouldnʻt you be furious? So donʻt
go out to make other people have that feeling. Treat your peers with respect if you want respect,
everyone who gives the respect, deserves respect.
Respect all people, especially women ; this trait of being a Saint Louis man is emphasized to the point
of knowing it like it is your first name. As a graduate from Saint Louis I can say that our teachers and
faculty are good examples of living the Saint Louis Man

one main general idea; elephants are more complex in human behaviour than previously believed .
Along with purpose, the authors aim at different viewpoints that all relatively agree with the same

Critique Of An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge
Critique of An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge
Summary of Major Ideas In An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, Ambrose Bierce tells the story of
Peyton Farquhar, a man who is about to be hanged for aiding the Confederacy during the Civil War. In
the moments before his hanging, he reminisces about scheming to set a bridge on fire in order to
prohibit the advancement of Union soldiers, which is why he is being hanged. Peyton then begins
plotting his escape and the reader is tricked into thinking he escapes his execution and makes it safely
to his house, when in reality he is actually hanged.
Critical Evaluation First, Bierce effectively portrays imagery through his thorough description of the
setting at Owl Creek Bridge. He starts by describing a man standing on a railroad bridge, gazing into
the water several feet below with his hands tied and a rope around his neck. This really gives the
reader the view and the physical feeling from the man s perspective. Bierce also explains the various
positions of the soldiers on the bridge and how their stances would have looked. For example he
writes, A sentinel at each end of the bridge stood with his rifle in the position known as support, that is
to say, vertical in front of the left shoulder, the hammer resting on the forearm thrown straight across
the chest a formal and unnatural position, enforcing an erect carriage of the body (Bierce, An
Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, 183). As a soldier in the Union Army, Bierce could

Southeast Asian Region and Orientalism
Introduction
Southeast Asia is an imagined region comprising eleven independent countries. Although these
countries have many distinct patterns and thus defined as one region, they remain differentiated, from
their indigenous history background, their environmental and physical differences, their religious
tolerance, as well as their current political and economical status. The characteristic of this region can
be described as: diversity (K Danielson, 2009).
In my research paper, I will draw Indonesia as a representation of the whole Southeast Asia region.
The reason for doing so is due to Indonesia s diverse characteristic, which I believe is very
representative of the region as a whole. By analyzing President Barack Obama s speech: ... Show

People of Indonesia of that time was struggling and fighting for their independence. This is also how
many foreigners think about the political status of the Southeast Asian countries. This was true about
fifty years ago, but is completely changed now, by an extraordinary democratic transformation, as
mentioned by Obama. The peaceful power transfer and the direct leaders election of Indonesia during
these years bring the country a dynamic civil society , political parties and unions , and a vibrant
media and engaged citizens . By discussing the successfully democratic transformation, Obama helps
the foreigners gain information about what the real political status is in Indonesia, which enables them
to rethink what they used to think about the Southeast Asia might have changed totally.
In the last place, Obama discussed the topic of religion, which is a fundamental of Indonesian people.
The largest religion in Indonesia is Muslim, with 88 percent of the population (U.S. Department of

Cortisol Research Paper
Cortisol production is stimulated by ACTH secretion from the anterior pituitary via numerous
feedback mechanisms according to the circadian rhythm, with peak levels in the early morning and
smaller fluctuations throughout the day. ACTH secretion is stimulated by CRH in the hypothalamus
which is stimulated by things such as: decreases in plasma cortisol, hypoglycemia, stress, and
infection. Secretion of ACTH leads to conversion of cholesterol to cortisol in the zona fasciculata of
the adrenal gland via various cytochrome P450 enzymes. Increased levels of cortisol itself cause
negative feedback on the pituitary and hypothalamus. The zona glomerulosa is the site of production
of Aldosterone, the principal mineralocorticoid, via similar mechanisms (cytochrome p 450.)
Aldosterone production is stimulated by activation of the renin angiotensin system in response to
decreased intravascular volume (sensed by baroreceptors), decreased sodium levels sensed in the
macula densa of the nephron, and by the sympathetic nervous system in response to stress.
Over ninety percent of cortisol in the blood is bound to corticosteroid binding globulin, and about ten

William Shakespeare s Henry V Essay
William Shakespeare s Henry V
Shakespeare s, Henry V, was written in the late sixteenth century, this composition will focus upon
how Shakespeare portrayed Henry V, using factual knowledge and Shakespeare s own interpretation. I
will look at the character, language, structure and history of the play.
Most Shakespearian, historical, plays were based upon Holinshead s Chronicles, these were mostly
true but often Shakespeare adjusted the figures and facts to emphasise parts of his play s, and create
tension and drama, such as when he is attempting to woo Katherine, to make a more interesting play.
Many of Shakespeare s plays were historical, based upon actual happenings. Henry V was one of these

At the beginning of the play the Bishop reminds Ely that Henry was once wild and offensive, The
breath no sooner left his fathers body but that his wildness, mortified in him seemed to die too: yea, at
that very moment consideration, like an angel came and whipped the offending Adam out of him.
However Ely refers to the good in Henry, The strawberry groweth underneath the nettle Ely is saying
that Henry was still growing, surrounded by people who are bad, but is still a good person underneath
that eventually blossomed and became a good person. This is a good example of Shakespeare s
imagery. He needed lots of imagery as the stage and scenery were very sparse and the actors were
nothing more than peasants. Prologues in a number of Elizabethan plays were used to set the scene,
give important information and ask the audience for applause. Acting during these times was also
incredibly poor, so prologues helped compensate for this. Shakespeare s interpretation of Henry V
makes him a very controversial character. On one side he makes Henry look like a heroic figure, on
the other, a ruthless, uncaring king. This shows that Shakespeare tried to make the play more realistic,
by showing the Henry was not just good or bad, but changed his attitudes to accommodate different
situations. Examples of this can be found when before the great battles in which he manipulates

justice, juvenile delinquency, the prison system, and incarceration are all problems that are prevailing
in our media. Flaws in the system, violence, and outbreaks are making people more aware of what is
really going on around them. An uneasy feeling has started settling into American s because of what is
happening around them. Either media plays up situations misleading American s, the people don t like
the truths that they are hearing, or a combination of both. It has started a cause and effect action.
Something bad happens in our country and the people retaliate in peaceful or violent ways. People are
starting to treat each other differently because of skin color, job titles, and gender. This is producing
tension with every problematic occurrence.
Crime in the United States from 2014 to 2013 has decreased. According the FBI s page, the definition

Napoleon seemed to have been seen as a man chosen and destined by god to find victory, though in
reality he was a workaholic, and spent long nights carefully drafting his plans for battle. He was
careful to maximize his manpower where it counted most. That said, Napoleon saw a value in
remaining unpredictable, always maintaining an aggressive stance to force his opponent to respond to
his moves. He often determined that the moment was more important than manpower. Often, after
maneuvering for some time, Napoleon would order his men to charge towards the enemy s

important to move quickly and definitely, than to wait for complete intelligence to reveal the true
nature of the enemy s whereabouts. Napoleon did not hold many rules on his troops when on the

Equal Rights Amendment Pros And Cons Essay
The Equal Rights Amendment has struggled immensely to be enacted since its introduction to
Congress in 1923. It is an amendment with a simple goal: give women equal rights. It seems like that
would be easily passed, but there was a lot of opposition that heavily criticized and misconstrued the
intentions of the amendment. The opponents rationale for their beliefs is very interesting, because their
main arguments are simply not true. Using false information to misinform the public is unfortunately a
very common occurrence, and it is important that the truth is available and the lies are openly
debunked. By simply looking at the amendment, it is clear that opponents to it are lying to instill fear
into the public.
One of the most well known opponents of the amendment is Phyllis Schlafly. She and her followers,
known as Stop ERA, used traditional gender roles to scare the public. One of their most common ...

Anti abortion activists describe this very negatively, saying that people would use this for convenience

are focusing on what would be a miniscule segment of the population to imply that a lot of women
would frequently have abortions. Even if it did affect them, lifting restrictions on women s
reproductive rights does not make them yearn to have abortions. But it does not affect them, it affects
the women who make that decision for themselves. Moreover, it is ultimately the individual states
decision how they address and restrict abortion. The ERA s website clearly states that the presence or

The Aging Process Essays
The Aging Process As we grow in to adulthood, many things start to change in our life. Aging is an
unavoidable process, beginning at conception and ending with death. The process does not proceed at
a uniform rate all over the body. As we age, the organ systems of individuals age at different rates. Our
body gradually slows down in early adult life. These changes are not apparent until perhaps 50 years
of age as they are not perceptible. The skeletal system gradually changes over the years until it is
porous and brittle, as the bones lose calcium and their density. This may be more pronounced in
women with menopause. These losses are multifactioral and involve age related changes (reduce CA

Hormone levels change, physical changes in the woman s entire reproductive tract, and psychological

When hormone levels fall, the vaginal walls become less elastic, thinner, and less rigid. The external

Summary Of Margaret Mead s Coming Of Age In Samoa
In Coming of Age in Samoa, by Margaret Mead, she exemplifies and puts emphasis on the idea of
socialization through the view of the Samoan girl, and we also see what her sexuality is as she
becomes an adult and has to deal with marriage. Before reading the book I never knew that different
cultures like the Samoan culture viewed everything in their daily lives different than how we view it in
ours. After learning about the Samoan culture in the book, it gave me a new perspective and how to
view the world around me because the book discussed key concepts I didn t expect to be interesting.
The Samoan culture and how socialization turns into sexuality for young girls is very different
compared to our culture. In the Samoan culture sexuality in Samoan girls is seen differently than we
see it in our culture today. Margaret Mead elaborates on this idea because of how she views the
sexuality of a Samoan girl when she mentions Virginity is a legal requirement for her (Mead 69).
When Mead discusses this, it is interesting how in that culture virginity is a requirement and that is
something we don t see as a requirement in our society today. This demonstrates how the sexuality of
a Samoan girl is not the same as we see it. The way girls are seen because of their sexuality is
incomparable to girls in our society today and that s important to observe since Samoan culture is by
far very different to what we view as part of culture today. In Samoan culture, socialization is an

Freedom is anyone s opportunity to make decisions. Therefore, freedom should be demanded. Nothing

Everything came about with a price, whether it was small or large. Freedom is something that should

can ask for things but that does not mean they will receive what was requested. Some may favor the

Riley Research Paper
We recently caught up with twenty year old Devonte Riley fresh off the BET Soul Train Awards, for a
little one on one. As an aspiring singer, songwriter/actor/producer, Riley is precisely what the R B pop
world needs at the moment. Furthermore, he has stated in his own words that he is ready to bring back
the feel good vibes of 90 s R B soul. Being soft spoken and mature for his age, what stood out
throughout our conversation, is the level of understanding of fame and the music industry that
surpasses veteran recording artists in the business. Although he already had a discernment of all the
pitfalls that younger artists, fall victim to every time, his accomplishments are evidence of the
spectacular talent and wisdom he possesses.

Literacy By James Paul Gee
Summary In the essay What is literacy? , James Paul Gee, presents to us a very detailed examination,
of concepts that are rather deemed to be similar by most. He explores the definition and meaning of
literacy by taking into account other related ideas such as learning , discourse and acquisition . He
very lucidly delves upon defining discourse, showing how it is related to defining literacy. He
segregates discourse into Primary Discourse and Secondary discourse the former being what we
imbibe in our early stages of life, growing up in our family and the neighborhood, while the latter
which we inculcate through our experiences in the society as we grow up. He also distinguishes
between acquiring and learning . This distinction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He defines acquisition as a process of acquiring something subconsciously by exposure to models and
a process of trial and error, without a process of formal teaching while learning as a process that
involves conscious knowledge gained through teaching, though not necessarily from someone
officially designated a teacher . The point that he makes here is that our education system in inefficient
because most of the knowledge that one imbibes in one s lifetime is through learning that is
conditioned to him systematically in a classroom and hence, the students from non dominant discourse
are at a disadvantage because their basic tool is of learning and so they cannot enter the dominant
discourse and find their way to power, success and money. The reason behind this is that it is not
practically possible to let these children have access to dominant discourses due to the lack of
financial resources that their parents possess. Also, the process of acquisition takes place in a natural
setting, the chances of these children to have one is almost

Golden Age Detective Fiction Essay
The anxieties and afflictions of a tragic decade are met with a reactionary response in Golden Age
detective fiction. It works as a medium to restore order to a threatened social calm. With its narrative
integrity and attempt to establish a universal order governed by reason, Golden Age Detective Fiction
functions a medium of refuge from modernism. The detective novel provides a mode of order and
stability which is otherwise threatened in the world. The paradigm shift following the aftermath of the
Second World War displaces detective fiction from its detachment from contemporary reality and
social context. The shift in the medium of Golden Age Detective Fiction can be looked at as a
realisation of its own fallibility as a medium of escape. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike the consulting detective of the Golden Age who is more focussed on the mystery that crime
brings, Morse cares about bringing the murderer to justice. And unlike the incompetent police
detective whose incompetence is the reason an amateur is consulted, Morse is actually competent and
efficient in his job. The multiple chapters and insights employed by Dexter in the novel allow the
reader to escape the tedious police procedure and dive more into the politics at play which is directly
related to the people involved in the case. But the reader is also informed of Morse s digressions and
progress. He tails his suspects, pursues women, falls off ladders, gets drunk, his car is broken and he
gets it repaired; Morse may not be characterised as friendly but he is human and Dexter makes sure
that the reader catches this as the story progresses. He is unlike the eccentric and almost superhuman
detective of the earlier version of the genre who seldom makes mistakes and basks on that
superhuman quality and knack for detection and lack of humanly errors. But among all of Morse s
humanly qualities and behaviour, there also lies a brilliant mind not unlike the Golden Age detective.

Leading Change Is Never Easy
Leading change is never easy. Many individuals want to reach their goals fast, but the process of
change takes time. It needs patience, persistence and learning from mistakes (Marhánková, 2010). The
centre for the aging needs a change in the activities that take place. Currently, the events that are
scheduled in the center are not serving the purpose they should. The members feel that they do not
personally associate with the events like bingo, trivia, and reading the newspaper. The individuals

easier job because the patron will be occupied and happy with the new events, which means that the
staff is not so engrossed in what is happening with the patrons.
The theories of aging especially disengagement, modernization, and activity theories emphasize on the
importance of the social aspect in those who are aging (Charles, Carstensen, 2010). The members have

positive self concept because they will feel useful. The change will also help them develop a sense of
belonging because they will be engaging in an activity of their choice, which means it is something

The Truth About SARS Essay
The Truth About SARS
People in general are both fascinated and paranoid of the onset of new infectious diseases. While films
such as Outbreak are smash hits at the box office, when an actual disease becomes apparent people
often react with a kind of mass hysteria. Last year, a new illness reared its evil head. While the name
SARS has become fairly well known, the actual facts behind the illness are not as widely talked about.
SARS is an acronym for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. The illness usually first becomes
evident with a temperature above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit, general malaise, and body aches. This
adds to the difficulty of identifying SARS; the general signs of the illness are so similar to more
common ailments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scientists have detected a previously unrecognized coronavirus in SARS patients, and this has become
the leading hypothesis for the cause of SARS. Coronaviruses are a group of viruses that, when viewed
under a powerful microscope, have a halo or crown like (hence corona) appearance. Viruses under
these headings are known to commonly cause mild to moderate upper respiratory illness in humans. In
animals, coronaviruses are associated with respiratory, gastrointestinal, liver, and neurological
diseases. Also, new ways to detect SARS have been discovered. Serologic testing for the SARS
syndrome can be performed using indirect fluorescent antibodies or enzyme linked immunosorbent
assays that are specific for the antibody that was produced after infection. A reverse transcriptase
polymerase chain reaction (known as RT PCR) test can also detect SARS in specimens such as serum,
stool, and nasal secretions. Also, viral cultures and isolation have been used to detect SARS lt; 1

My Leadership Style Analysis
This week I take on Ohio as I learn to grow as a leader.
Today a lot of the things we talked about really hit home with me, and I actually cried in a room full of
strangers as I told them my story and why I chose to be a leader.
But today we talked about resilience. We defined resilience as:
The process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats or significant sources of
stress.
This definition really spoke to me. I have been facing this day after day ever since April, and today we
had a lady talk to us about it for 2 hours, but it felt like it was only seconds. She helped me to realize
that I am not alone, that I have other sisters out there that are fighting, if not the same battle, one that

I definitely relate to these characteristics way more... Most of the time they all occur at once.
To fold up into yourself is basically when you look at people and just say I can t with you right now.
You hide away, turn off your phone, turn off all communication with the outside world, and basically
just become one with your bed... and maybe a bag of taco bell. With my depression, I am guilty of this
a lot. People try to talk to me and then I get in trouble because I get irritated that they won t just leave
me alone with myself for a bit... That s often when I storm off. You just hit that point where you ve
had enough and you just need to run away from all your responsibilities. This was comforting to hear
from someone else, because I was starting to worry that maybe part of my three year old self had held
onto parts of my brain. Next is to blame others. You don t want to accept that you have done wrong or
that you have messed up, so you start putting the blame on other people. Next, you require total
control. In a leadership role, sometimes you feel like you have lost control of a situation, so you try to
regain control by taking all of it. You shut people out, and you tell them that you don t need their help.
As a bit of a control freak, like I said, I am very guilty of this. As I come into contact with more and
more leaders on campus, I have learned to step back and just observe situations and let other people
handle them. I have

20th Century Gangs Research Paper
Since the 1800 s gangs as we all know have a history in the United States. The United States became a
melting pot during this time as people of many ethnicities and religions entered the United States.
Many of the new immigrants joined gangs in order to gain a group identity, protect themselves against
other rival groups both immigrant based and natural born citizens, and build a unified presence. The
five corners in new York city is a prime example of immigrant based gangs just trying to protect
themselves and gain identity in the new world. Even though the street gangs of the 19th century were
widely feared by other citizens and rival gangs, they don t hold a candle to the threat that the gangs we
have today to the safety of society.

Informative Essay On John Deere Tractors

Everyone that has a yard to mow or ever drove past a farm knows what a John Deere tractor looks
like. You don t have to be a farmer to recognize the green tractor with the yellow lettering as a John
Deere. These tractors are so well built and designed that television commercials say Nothing runs like

What Is The Most Important Cause Of Global Ocean Circulation
Although relatively small in area, coastal polynyas play a disproportionately important role in many
important physical and biological processes in the high latitude Southern Ocean, as well as having an
impact on global ocean circulation. Coastal polynyas in some areas around Antarctica are important
contributors to global ocean circulation. Vertical mixing of ocean water, known as overturning
circulation or thermohaline circulation , is an important aspect of the global current system that is
driven primarily by rising and sinking of water masses at high latitudes in both the northern and
southern hemispheres. Salt is expelled as the ocean water freezes to form sea ice. This creates dense

The Keystone Xl Pipeline Is The United States National...
The second reason for the immediate approval of the Keystone XL Pipeline is the United States
national security risk that results from the dependence on foreign oil, lack of jobs and supply of oil.
The United States has been dependent on the unstable Middle East for the past few decades as one of
their limited sources of oil. It is a necessity to empower ourselves and relieve the constraints of OPEC
off the United States. OPEC, the organization that controls the oil prices and how much oil is

One example of how the United States dependency on foreign oil affects us is the situation in Iran.
Iran is building a nuclear power plant, but that goes against the world law for Iran. Iran has threatened
the world with the use of nuclear weapons and the creation of a nuclear power plant could help
achieve those threats. The United States is struggling to deal with the actions of Iran because of the
large amounts of oil they produce and export. They United States has to act on their own because the
countries within the European Union do not want to upset Iran and compromise one of their supplies
of oil. Many countries are taking advantage of their access of fossil fuels and going against United
States foreign policy. However, if the United States controlled their own supply of oil they would be
able to handle problems in the way that best suits them and the rest of the world. Another way that
would ensure the United States national security is allowing ourselves to regulate how the crude oil is

Juvenile Delinquency In American Literature
For comic book enthusiasts during the 1950 s, Frederic Wertham was more threatening to the reader
than any fictitious villain that they had read of before. This is because Dr. Frederic Wertham dedicated
his career to attacking the negative impact comic books had on its readers. Additionally, he discussed
the atrocious social implications they produced in American culture. Wertham took a similar
viewpoint to Sigmund Freud in that he believed, one s morals are strongly influenced by the society in
which a person lives. With this view, Wertham sought to answer the question; why is juvenile
delinquency rapidly growing in the United States? In order to answer this, Wertham decided to blame
comic books for being the primary cause of the rise in juvenile delinquency in the United States
(Wertham 100). Wertham s attack on comics is as Savage believes, most assuredly a pompous,
polemical, biased, and poorly documented one (Savage 96). In analyzing various comics, William
Savage s book Commies, Cowboys, and Jungle Queens, and an excerpt from Frederic Wertham s book
Seduction of the Innocent, I hold the belief that, although Wertham was melodramatic in his attack on
comic books, he still held a valid argument for the negative role comics played in the United States.
To start, I believe Wertham was justified in his belief that comic books constant display of sexism,
racism, and graphic violence, could have negatively impacted a child s development. In his book,

Father Son Relationships In Things Fall Apart
Every father should remember that one day his son will follow his example instead of his advice. This
quote by Charles F Kettering embodies what a father son relationship really is. A father is someone a
son looks up to, whether in a good or bad light depends on the situation. Father son relationships can
take two paths, one where the son does everything the father hates and the others were the son does
everything the father does. Fathers play a major role in their son s life with examples of the
relationship found throughout the novel Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe in the characters of
Okonkwo, Nwoye and Unoka. For better or worse Unoka played a major role in Okonkwo s life. It
was fear of himself, lest he should be found to resemble his father. (Achebe 13). Throughout the
entirety of Okonkwo s life, his relationship with his father would affect his decisions which were
always based on the question, Would my father do this? , and if he would he would do the opposite.
Okonkwo viewed his father as a failure and did not want to even be seen as being related to him.
Okonkwo got this impression at a young age, Even as a young boy he resented his father s failure and
weaknesses ... (Achebe 13). The lessons that Okonkwo got from ... Show more content on

Okonkwo took all of the feelings of how he felt about his father and made sure to teach his son the
right way unlike his father. These teaching did not go over well for Nwoye however, Nwoye was only
twelve years old but was already causing his father great anxiety for his incipient laziness. (Achebe
13) Okonkwo s constant shows of how a man should be really had the opposite effect on Nwoye.
Nwoye developed into a boy that resembled his father in the way he acted, and that bothered
Okonkwo. The relationship between Okonkwo and Nwoye shows that not only does the father son
relationship affect the son it also affects his son and so

Comparing and Contrasting High School Teachers and...
Most people see teachers and professors in the same light. They perform similar tasks. They teach.
However, they are separated by a fine line of distinction. High school teachers help a student build a
foundation of knowledge, and train the student to focus on learning. College professors help to shape
and define a student s foundation of knowledge, and challenge the student to cultivate the mind. High
school teachers and college professors have similar goals and guidelines, but they take a differing
approach to achieving the end result. The way the class is conducted, academic expectations, and view
of student responsibility are a few of the contrasts between high school teachers and college
professors.
A high school class ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The student is responsible for knowing what is required and when it is due. For example; I once asked
my math professor if we would have a homework assignment for the weekend and he did not answer
me. One of the other students told me to look in the syllabus for the homework assignment. I was
embarrassed that I had asked and now I save my syllabus for the entire course.
Academic expectations are different between high school teachers and college professors as well. The
academic expectations of teachers are focused on memorizing and regurgitating facts and can be met
with minimal effort on the part of the student. High school teachers tend to point out the relationship
between subjects so that the student has no choice but to see the connections. Furthermore, the student
is expected to merely do the homework, and be able to recite the lesson to earn a passing grade.
Memorization is the primary focus. For example; students are required to memorize the multiplication
tables even if they don t understand the concept of multiplication. I was one of those students that did
not understand multiplication and as a result, I forgot the multiplication tables almost as soon as math
class was over. Whether or not the student actually understands the material is second to being able to
recite the material. This demonstrates a much lower academic expectation compared

Loose stones will fall out while in an ultrasonic. This is actually a good thing. It is best for a stone to
fall into the ultrasonic than to lose it. A jeweler can usually set the stone for you which is cheaper than
having to purchase a new stone.
Never clean your jewelry in a sink where it could fall into the drain.
There is an old wives tale of using toothpaste as a home remedy for cleaning jewelry. Toothpaste is
abrasive and can harm fine jewelry by leaving scratches. There are You Tube videos where cheap
jewelry is cleaned with toothpaste, but never use it to clean fine jewelry or anything which has a high
gloss finish.
There are many articles on the internet which suggest using household items like Windex, alcohol,
vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, and a soapy water solution. These solutions may not be harmful to your
jewelry and may clean your jewelry some, but here is a little secret about how professional jewelers
clean your jewelry.

  • 2. Mercutio In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet There are many different characteristics that can qualify a person as a true friend. Everyone has different ideas about what these characteristics are, but many people would say that a true friend is trustworthy, altruistic, and loving. In his famous play, Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare conveys the importance of true friendship through the character Mercutio, who has a caring, selfless, and honest personality. Mercutio is a sincere friend because he is selfless and will do almost anything for his friends. When Tybalt visits the Montagues and a fight breaks out, Mercutio tells Tybalt make haste, lest mine be about your ears ere it be out (3.1.76 77). By utilizing the phrase make haste, Shakespeare illustrates Mercutio as a powerful and commanding individual. Mercutio is neither Montague nor Capulet, but he chooses to stand up for his friends and help them fight because he wants to assist the people he cares for. A true friend will risk dignity, reputation, or, in this case, their life to support friends. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shakespeare depicts this characteristic in many scenes, but it is most evident when Mercutio says sometimes [Queen Mab] gallops o er a courtier s nose (1.4.79). Mercutio was telling Romeo how Rosaline, the woman Romeo liked, was just going to break Romeo s heart. Shakespeare communicates Mercutio s thought by referring to Queen Mab, a fairy who makes men fall in love with her while dreaming and then break the men s hearts. According to the Oxford Dictionary Online, the definition of caring is displaying kindness and concern for others. In this section, Mercutio is shown as a caring friend because he is attempting to warn Romeo of what Rosaline could possibly do, which is an example of showing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. According to Mohr and Fourie (2004), the tax burden should... According to Mohr and Fourie (2004), the tax burden should be spread equitably among the various taxpayers. Equitability (fairness) can be described using two principles, the ability to pay principle and the benefits received principle. Benefits received principle, according to Case et al (2014), is a fairness/equity theory that says citizens should contribute in proportion to the benefits that they receive from the public expenditure. E Tolling is a good example of this as it conforms to the benefits received principle, where e toll users pay for their usage of the toll roads in proportion to the benefits they derive/receive. SANRAL is charging a levy/tax that has to be paid for the usage of the road. If you use the road more than other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tax systems should not discriminate between people within the same income range (they are similar with respect to their ability to pay) and their tax rate should be the same. For example, income taxes are proportional within particular income ranges. This means that citizens in the same income range will bear the same tax burden. Vertical equity is a principle that says citizens with a greater ability to pay taxes should pay more (Case et al, 2014). According to Parry, I.W.H. 2008, toll fees are unfair from the perspective of vertical equity, given that everyone faces the same toll fees regardless of their income. The poor pays the same 30c/km as the rich, even though the rich have a greater ability to pay. For example, income taxes are progressive in nature, meaning that they conform to vertical equity. This means that higher income earners will bear a higher tax burden while lower income earners will bear a lower tax burden. E Toll rates are charged at a flat rate of 30c/km and this means that it s neither vertically nor horizontally equitable. The poor ends up paying a higher proportion of their income compared to the rich and this in turn makes e Tolling regressive, even though the rich have greater ability to pay. The vertical and horizontal equity principles stem from the ability to pay principle and both systems seem to be fair. 2.4 The tax incidence of an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For the past fifty or so years reclaimed water has been used all over the world. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here s a little history behind reclaimed water. This is not something new this has been around for almost 100 years, for instance in 1912 the first use of reclaimed water began with the irrigation of the Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. In 1966 Florida established the Tallahassee Reclaimed Water Farm, and because of that Florida now has 440 systems that reclaim 659 million gallons of water per day this is more than any other state. However the question still remains is reclaim water safe? According to the Water Reuse Foundation (2009), major studies have proven that reclaimed water is infact safe for landscape irrigation and other purposes. Also, reclaimed water through the process that it goes through is essentially pathogen free, sparkling clear and can safely be used by residents for irrigation and by businesses for irrigation, cooling and other industrial purposes. It also goes on to say that Florida leads in safety and that there has been no water related illnesses in over 40 years. Is reclaimed water safe to drink? With populations growing and water becoming a necessity in most areas of the world research is in effect. However we tend to cringe on the fact of actually drinking reclaimed water because we have that preconception of reclaimed water in a toilet and then the thought of drinking the same water. Critique Of An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge Critique of An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge Summary of Major Ideas In An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, Ambrose Bierce tells the story of Peyton Farquhar, a man who is about to be hanged for aiding the Confederacy during the Civil War. In the moments before his hanging, he reminisces about scheming to set a bridge on fire in order to prohibit the advancement of Union soldiers, which is why he is being hanged. Peyton then begins plotting his escape and the reader is tricked into thinking he escapes his execution and makes it safely to his house, when in reality he is actually hanged. Critical Evaluation First, Bierce effectively portrays imagery through his thorough description of the setting at Owl Creek Bridge. He starts by describing a man standing on a railroad bridge, gazing into the water several feet below with his hands tied and a rope around his neck. This really gives the reader the view and the physical feeling from the man s perspective. Bierce also explains the various positions of the soldiers on the bridge and how their stances would have looked. For example he writes, A sentinel at each end of the bridge stood with his rifle in the position known as support, that is to say, vertical in front of the left shoulder, the hammer resting on the forearm thrown straight across the chest a formal and unnatural position, enforcing an erect carriage of the body (Bierce, An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, 183). Although these countries have many distinct patterns and thus defined as one region, they remain differentiated, from their indigenous history background, their environmental and physical differences, their religious tolerance, as well as their current political and economical status. The characteristic of this region can be described as: diversity (K Danielson, 2009). In my research paper, I will draw Indonesia as a representation of the whole Southeast Asia region. The reason for doing so is due to Indonesia s diverse characteristic, which I believe is very representative of the region as a whole. By analyzing President Barack Obama s speech: ... The peaceful power transfer and the direct leaders election of Indonesia during these years bring the country a dynamic civil society , political parties and unions , and a vibrant media and engaged citizens . • 10. Cortisol Research Paper Cortisol production is stimulated by ACTH secretion from the anterior pituitary via numerous feedback mechanisms according to the circadian rhythm, with peak levels in the early morning and smaller fluctuations throughout the day. ACTH secretion is stimulated by CRH in the hypothalamus which is stimulated by things such as: decreases in plasma cortisol, hypoglycemia, stress, and infection. Secretion of ACTH leads to conversion of cholesterol to cortisol in the zona fasciculata of the adrenal gland via various cytochrome P450 enzymes. Increased levels of cortisol itself cause negative feedback on the pituitary and hypothalamus. The zona glomerulosa is the site of production of Aldosterone, the principal mineralocorticoid, via similar mechanisms (cytochrome p 450.) Aldosterone production is stimulated by activation of the renin angiotensin system in response to decreased intravascular volume (sensed by baroreceptors), decreased sodium levels sensed in the macula densa of the nephron, and by the sympathetic nervous system in response to stress. William Shakespeare s Henry V Essay William Shakespeare s Henry V Shakespeare s, Henry V, was written in the late sixteenth century, this composition will focus upon how Shakespeare portrayed Henry V, using factual knowledge and Shakespeare s own interpretation. I will look at the character, language, structure and history of the play. Most Shakespearian, historical, plays were based upon Holinshead s Chronicles, these were mostly true but often Shakespeare adjusted the figures and facts to emphasise parts of his play s, and create tension and drama, such as when he is attempting to woo Katherine, to make a more interesting play. At the beginning of the play the Bishop reminds Ely that Henry was once wild and offensive, The breath no sooner left his fathers body but that his wildness, mortified in him seemed to die too: yea, at that very moment consideration, like an angel came and whipped the offending Adam out of him. However Ely refers to the good in Henry, The strawberry groweth underneath the nettle Ely is saying that Henry was still growing, surrounded by people who are bad, but is still a good person underneath that eventually blossomed and became a good person. This is a good example of Shakespeare s imagery. He needed lots of imagery as the stage and scenery were very sparse and the actors were nothing more than peasants. Prologues in a number of Elizabethan plays were used to set the scene, give important information and ask the audience for applause. Acting during these times was also incredibly poor, so prologues helped compensate for this. Shakespeare s interpretation of Henry V makes him a very controversial character. On one side he makes Henry look like a heroic figure, on the other, a ruthless, uncaring king. This shows that Shakespeare tried to make the play more realistic, by showing the Henry was not just good or bad, but changed his attitudes to accommodate different situations. In the Samoan culture sexuality in Samoan girls is seen differently than we see it in our culture today. Margaret Mead elaborates on this idea because of how she views the sexuality of a Samoan girl when she mentions Virginity is a legal requirement for her (Mead 69). When Mead discusses this, it is interesting how in that culture virginity is a requirement and that is something we don t see as a requirement in our society today. This demonstrates how the sexuality of a Samoan girl is not the same as we see it. While films such as Outbreak are smash hits at the box office, when an actual disease becomes apparent people often react with a kind of mass hysteria. Last year, a new illness reared its evil head. While the name SARS has become fairly well known, the actual facts behind the illness are not as widely talked about. SARS is an acronym for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. The illness usually first becomes evident with a temperature above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit, general malaise, and body aches. This adds to the difficulty of identifying SARS; the general signs of the illness are so similar to more common ailments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scientists have detected a previously unrecognized coronavirus in SARS patients, and this has become the leading hypothesis for the cause of SARS. Coronaviruses are a group of viruses that, when viewed under a powerful microscope, have a halo or crown like (hence corona) appearance. Viruses under these headings are known to commonly cause mild to moderate upper respiratory illness in humans. In animals, coronaviruses are associated with respiratory, gastrointestinal, liver, and neurological diseases. Also, new ways to detect SARS have been discovered. Serologic testing for the SARS syndrome can be performed using indirect fluorescent antibodies or enzyme linked immunosorbent assays that are specific for the antibody that was produced after infection. A reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (known as RT PCR) test can also detect SARS in specimens such as serum, stool, and nasal secretions. Also, viral cultures and isolation have been used to detect SARS lt; 1 1)yahoo.com. • 29. My Leadership Style Analysis This week I take on Ohio as I learn to grow as a leader. Today a lot of the things we talked about really hit home with me, and I actually cried in a room full of strangers as I told them my story and why I chose to be a leader. But today we talked about resilience. We defined resilience as: The process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats or significant sources of stress. This definition really spoke to me. I have been facing this day after day ever since April, and today we had a lady talk to us about it for 2 hours, but it felt like it was only seconds. She helped me to realize that I am not alone, that I have other sisters out there that are fighting, if not the same battle, one that is similar to mine. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I definitely relate to these characteristics way more... Most of the time they all occur at once. To fold up into yourself is basically when you look at people and just say I can t with you right now. You hide away, turn off your phone, turn off all communication with the outside world, and basically just become one with your bed... and maybe a bag of taco bell. With my depression, I am guilty of this a lot. People try to talk to me and then I get in trouble because I get irritated that they won t just leave me alone with myself for a bit... That s often when I storm off. You just hit that point where you ve had enough and you just need to run away from all your responsibilities. This was comforting to hear from someone else, because I was starting to worry that maybe part of my three year old self had held onto parts of my brain. Next is to blame others. You don t want to accept that you have done wrong or that you have messed up, so you start putting the blame on other people. Next, you require total control. In a leadership role, sometimes you feel like you have lost control of a situation, so you try to regain control by taking all of it. You shut people out, and you tell them that you don t need their help. As a bit of a control freak, like I said, I am very guilty of this. As I come into contact with more and more leaders on campus, I have learned to step back and just observe situations and let other people handle them. I have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The United States became a melting pot during this time as people of many ethnicities and religions entered the United States. The United States is struggling to deal with the actions of Iran because of the large amounts of oil they produce and export. Many countries are taking advantage of their access of fossil fuels and going against United States foreign policy. However, if the United States controlled their own supply of oil they would be able to handle problems in the way that best suits them and the rest of the world. • 39. Juvenile Delinquency In American Literature For comic book enthusiasts during the 1950 s, Frederic Wertham was more threatening to the reader than any fictitious villain that they had read of before. This is because Dr. Frederic Wertham dedicated his career to attacking the negative impact comic books had on its readers. Additionally, he discussed the atrocious social implications they produced in American culture. Wertham took a similar viewpoint to Sigmund Freud in that he believed, one s morals are strongly influenced by the society in which a person lives. With this view, Wertham sought to answer the question; why is juvenile delinquency rapidly growing in the United States? In order to answer this, Wertham decided to blame comic books for being the primary cause of the rise in juvenile delinquency in the United States (Wertham 100). Wertham s attack on comics is as Savage believes, most assuredly a pompous, polemical, biased, and poorly documented one (Savage 96). In analyzing various comics, William Savage s book Commies, Cowboys, and Jungle Queens, and an excerpt from Frederic Wertham s book Seduction of the Innocent, I hold the belief that, although Wertham was melodramatic in his attack on comic books, he still held a valid argument for the negative role comics played in the United States. To start, I believe Wertham was justified in his belief that comic books constant display of sexism, racism, and graphic violence, could have negatively impacted a child s development. Father son relationships can take two paths, one where the son does everything the father hates and the others were the son does everything the father does. Fathers play a major role in their son s life with examples of the relationship found throughout the novel Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe in the characters of Okonkwo, Nwoye and Unoka. For better or worse Unoka played a major role in Okonkwo s life. It was fear of himself, lest he should be found to resemble his father. (Achebe 13). Throughout the entirety of Okonkwo s life, his relationship with his father would affect his decisions which were always based on the question, Would my father do this? , and if he would he would do the opposite. Okonkwo viewed his father as a failure and did not want to even be seen as being related to him. Academic expectations are different between high school teachers and college professors as well. High school teachers tend to point out the relationship between subjects so that the student has no choice but to see the connections.
