post-war recovery.
SHINKANSEN -’new trunk line’
 The 1st shinkansen line opened in fall of
1964 , profound impact on Japan
 2ND generation shinkansen- 1972

SHINKANSENRAILWAY
• A combination of speed and frequent service made THE WORLD
-- first high speed railway enormously profitable
• Nozomi- fastest shinkansen
• Adapted – best technology- seamless system
• Cost of constructed- est. nearly 200 billion yen
raised in form of govt. loan, railway bonds and low intt. Loan of US$80
million from world bank.
Howitworks?
*
• Streamlined shape and smooth outer surface
• Minimised air resistence and noise at high speed
• Motive power distributed with axles
• Distributed weight on tracks
*
• Automatic train control system
• Entire line monitored by centralized traffic control centre
• Seismometers installed- Earthquake
*
• ‘YELLOW DOCTOR’ diagnostic train- assessed tracks- by monitoring
equipment

SAFETYRECORDS:
Over theshinkansen’s 50-plus year history, carrying overmanypassengers, there have

• HEAVY SNOW
INITIAL SUCCESS
^
* Extention westward , new lines
built- every corner of nation.
*The distance that could be
covered in 6 hours and 40 minutes,
could now be covered in 4 hours
only.
Run at speeds unmatched anywhere in the world, nearly
twice as fast .
Other series were introduced on other lines
SHINKANSENTECHNOLOGYININDIA
In December 2015, India and Japan signed an agreement for construction of india’s
first high speed rail link connecting Mumbai to Ahmedabad.
*Link is expected cost up to US$ 18.6 billion- operational about 7 years
recent news:
India to get Bullet Train on 7 new route * India to get a New Bullet
trains on 7 routes soon….
FUTURE
• Expanding its network
• Installing a number of new, technologically advanced trains, some of which
will exceed the current Shinkansen speed record
• New Alfa X Shinkansen, currently being tested at speeds of 250 mile/hour
• (For example, Nagasaki is not currently serviced directly by Shinkansen
trains. In order to reach Nagasaki using your Japan Rail Pass, you must
transfer to the JR Kamome limited express at Hakata Station. This will
change when the West Kyushu Shinkansen opens)
ATTHEEND..
* Greatly influenced by Japanese geography and society
* Great effect on japan’s business, economy, society, environment and culture
* Superiority of shinkansen over other transportation in terms of speed,
safety , punctuality.
