Person centered care models with reference to dementia care, has demonstrated positive outcomes for behavioral disturbance. This presentation will increase awareness and understanding about person-centered care for people with dementia. Discussion includes complex needs of people with dementia, leading to compromised behavioral symptoms; including non-pharmacological approaches, sleep-wake-cycle disturbance, verbal outbursts and aggression. Further discussion encompasses evidence based outcomes with the use of person centered care that focuses on preserving the "personhood" of the individual.
We want more people in later life to take up opportunities to contribute their skills, knowledge and experience to their communities.
Voluntary activities, formal civic roles and small acts of neighbourliness can all contribute significantly to personal well-being, and create stronger social connections.
Talk given by Dr Simon Duffy to the Multicultural Community Council of South Australia, exploring the potential for empowerment and human rights in aged care services.
In this webinar we explored what needs to be in place to enable everyone to maintain, rebuild or grow social connections as we age.

This was a document I researched and wrote this proposal for Josie’s Place, a non-profit that offers counseling for bereaved children and adolescents.
The goal of this organization is to provide group counceling support for children and adolescents to help them resolve grief issues over the death of loved ones.
The main challenge for this project was finding statistical data concerning bereaved children along with research articles discussing the negative results of unresolved grief in children, their family, and the community around them.
This guide provides you general information to help immigrants understand how Spain, as your adoptive country, works and show you how to use the different resources and services available to ensure that you look after your health in general as this is indispensible in order to ensure your quality of life, wellbeing, and in doing so improve your sexual and reproductive health.
Immigrating entails an extensive and ongoing process of adapting to the customs and institutional and organisational mechanisms of the adoptive country in order to obtain legal status, find somewhere to live, a job, residence and work permits, schooling for families with children, health services, care for elderly people etc. all of which can cause stress which can in turn affect your health and your sex life.
This guide contains substantial information on an important aspect of everyone’s life, namely sexuality, including not only biological, psychological and emotional aspects but also social, cultural and even legal aspects which can affect reproduction and the right of families to decide, particularly women.
This guide is part of the "Program to promote sexual health and well-being of immigrants", developed by the Union of Family Associations (UNAF). For more information: www.unaf.org/saludsexualparainmigrantes

The Centre For Applied Research and Evaluation‐International Foundation: Position Statement on Stigma.
There is no doubt that cultural differences and exchanges can require great humility and sensitivity to avoid unintended insult or humiliation; the human desire to befriend and reach out can sometimes result in disagreements about entitlements and mutual obligations and rights.
Careif aims to address these aspects of stigma. We do this by identifying and confronting the sources of stigma and to empower all parties through dialogue, contact, education and research.

Welcome to Careif’s 10th anniversary newsletter.
Careif is an international mental health charity that works towards protecting and promoting mental health and resilience, to eliminate inequalities and strengthen social justice. Our principles include working creatively with humili-ty and dignity, and with balanced partnerships in order to ensure all cultures and societies play their part in our mission of protecting and promoting mental health and well‐being. We do this by respecting the traditions of all world soci-eties, whilst believing traditions can evolve, for even greater benefit to individ-uals and society.
Careif believes that knowledge should not only be available to those with wealth or those who live in urban and industrialised parts of the world. It considers knowledge sharing to be a basic human right, where this knowledge can change lives and help realise true human potential. Further-more there is substantial knowledge to be found in the less developed, rural and poorer areas of the world and this is valuable to the wellbeing of people in areas which are wealthier.
The newsletter has been produced on a voluntary basis by me, Erica Camus, a freelance journalist, and public speaker with schizo-affective. If you’d like to book me for editorial work, or for a talk please contact me on cromptonerica@hotmail.com.
Review of the research, literature and expert advice on reducing discrimination and enhancing social inclusion in mental health / illness. Written by Neasa Martin, funded by Queensland Alliance, Australia 2009
Mental health affects individuals from all walks of life, regardless of ethnic or cultural background. However, the challenges faced by minority communities in accessing and receiving adequate mental health care are often overlooked or underrepresented. This blog aims to shed light on the unique challenges that minority populations encounter regarding mental health and the importance of raising awareness to address these issues effectively.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Inclusive, accessible and healthy communities
Our Mission
Interact Australia works to promote social
inclusion, health and wellbeing, prioritising
people with the highest needs and supporting
people to achieve their full potential.
5. In the realm of sexuality and disability there is public discourse
on deviance and inappropriate behaviour, abuse and
victimization, asexuality, gender and orientation, and
reproductive issues in women and men.
The pleasurable aspect of sex in our culture has been largely
ignored, vilified, or exploited. Our families, public schools,
religious institutions, and medical establishment have adopted
the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy of sexual education.
Tepper, M.S. (2000). Sexuality and Disability: The Missing Discourse of Pleasure, Sexuality and Disability,
Vol. 18, (4).
6. One institution that has not ignored sexual pleasure is the
media. However, the media has exploited sexual pleasure for
gain. Sex is portrayed as a privilege of the white, heterosexual,
young, single and non-disabled. Sexual pleasure is held out as
a reward for buying the right product and targeted to markets
with the most disposable income.
Sexuality as a source of pleasure and as an expression of love is
not readily recognized for populations that have been
traditionally marginalized in society. Sexual portrayals of people
who are older, who are larger, who are darker, who are gayer,
who have mental health issues or a disability,or who just do not
fit the targeted market profile have been conspicuously
absent in mainstream media.
7. Pleasure is an affirmation of life. Pleasure is often defined as an
addition to life or a form of luxury rather than a centrally
motivating and defining feature of social action.
Pleasure adds meaning to our lives. Sexual pleasure is
particularly powerful in making one feel alive. It can add a sense
of connectnedness to the world or to each other. It can heal a
sense of emotional isolation so many of us feel even though we
are socially integrated. It can help build our immunity against
media messages that can make us feel as if we don’t deserve
pleasure.
We must be advocates for the inclusion of sexuality and sexual
health in disability studies, politics, public discourse and service
provision.

13. By helping offenders to build the necessary conditions (i.e. internal and
external capacities) for meeting their needs in adaptive pro-social
ways, the associated effect is that they will be less likely to harm others
and themselves. As such, the enhancement of offender well-being (in a
goods promotion sense) directly functions to reduce risk and protect the
community. There are 11 basic human goods:
Life

Excellence in play
Excellence in work
Excellence in agency

14. the emotional sense of feeling good in the present
time –the state of happiness
The primary good of pleasure in this sense refers to a
state of being (feeling good in the here and now), and
the overall experience of being content with one’s
life. It is often reflected in feelings of pleasure and
deep satisfaction. Sometimes, the leisure activity may
be for its own sake, just because it brings joy to the
person in the present tense, and as such the activity
is really about pleasure.
Instrumental goods may include engaging in sex,
enjoyment of food, massage or sport where the goal
sought is at least partly, a feeling of deep
contentment or pleasure.

15. Shuttleworth, in his introduction to a recent issue of the
Sexuality Research and Social Policy journal, writes:
"It is impossible to do justice to all of the sexual issues
that are emerging as important for people with a disability.
But they include the following: access for women with a
disability to quality reproductive health care; the use of
sexual surrogates and sex workers; poor sexual self-
esteem and body image; lack of positive media images of
disability and sexuality; negative and non-supportive staff
attitudes toward the sexuality of disabled people;
difficulties in accessing interpersonal contexts in which
sexual relationships with others are usually cultivated;
disability fetishism; and the multiple oppressions that
ethnic and sexual minorities face."
