The Pathways to Prosperity Project aims to assist the Native American community in Seattle transition from poverty to well-being. It focuses on addressing the root causes or "determinants" of poverty, such as poor health, lack of cultural identity, and inadequate access to services. The project is led by the United Indians of All Tribes Foundation and the Northwest Area Foundation. It takes a holistic, wrap-around approach, and will implement initiatives focused on education, health, cultural revitalization, and economic development.

With its focus on disability equality theory and the medical and social models of disability, this programme encourages participants to think about how they can tackle disability discrimination at work. It promotes an organisational response, helping teams to enable the fuller participation of disabled people. By removing physical, attitudinal and systemic barriers and fostering an understanding of disablism, participants are more able to address cultural change within their organisations. Furthermore, the approach to changing environment and culture is consistent with other current theories and guidance that are applied widely across our services.

Engaged Solutions to Address Socio-Emotional Needs PRC, Inc
Saint Anthony, a stand-alone safety-net hospital operating in the black, effectively leverages a range of community resources through the Center for Community Wellness (CCW) to engage with two of the most pressing social needs for the residents of Chicago’s west and southwest sides: access to healthcare/mental health services and addressing the impacts of community violence. Over the last two decades, they have developed four community-based programs, offered at no cost, that address community residents’ socio-emotional needs: healthcare navigation, health education, family support, and mental health.
This webinar will demonstrate the value of the CCW as a model to advance health equity by tackling some of the most pressing issues facing Chicago’s high economic hardship communities. The CCW has established community wellness centers in those neighborhoods to provide easily accessible and culturally responsive services for individuals and families across the life span as a method of directly addressing social determinants of health.

All people have a culture - it is how human beings make sense of the world. Culture shapes how people think, learn and solve problems, what they value and respect, what attracts and delights them, what offends them and their sense of what is appropriate. More deeply, culture is the soil in which the tree of identity has its roots. Culture is manifest in human relations, systems of organization, technology, arts, politics, economics, community life - all the things that humans do.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Poverty is not simply “a lack of jobs or income”, but rather “a web of interwoven problems—poor schooling, bad health, family troubles, racism, crime and unemployment—that can lock families out of opportunity, permanently”. Quoted from Joan Walsh’s “Stories of Community Building and the Future of Urban America”, commissioned by the Rockefeller Foundation and published in 1996. .

Editor's Notes
Faced with an overwhelming number of options, we could have done a lot of things. Taking what AECF does best and matching it up with the need in the communities, we chose to focus on three key areas….
We are really excited about the work we have been able to accomplish…and, with Mikaela coming on board, we are in a better position to share the lessons learned in addition to the work our grantees are producing…. Specifically, around data-based advocacy, this year…. Point out the work NOTE: ADD FES slide and FIELD BLDG slide

These words are at core/heart of our work.
These words are at core/heart of our work.
The story of how we got here and what informs where we are going is best understood by taking a quick look at the past three years.
And now, in collaboration with our key partners (xyz), we have a lot more info about the true picture. And we know people are hungry for this data—for several years now, 2 nd most downloaded report off website. I’m highlighting on this slide some of the key indicators – but I really encourage you to take a closer look at the report (chapter 3) gives more comprehensive look

There are many ways we approach this complex set of issues – here’s how we have chosen to do so in a strategic and respectful/honoring way
So these are obviously vulnerable kids and families living in both urban and rural places --- many of our MC sites. So there is a call to action 3 years ago we didn’t know what the call sounded like, and we got involved in this work to understand what we might do. We discovered there was a lot to do. We also discovered that there are clear benefits to AECF and the world of philanthropy; gains to be made by engaging in this work—list above.
I wanted to share a few words from the people we work with and seek to support. We begin there because that’s where we start the work – listening to them, learning from them, determining the course of action based on their aspirations and challenges. We hear what they know, and develop strategies to secure what they need. So before we move into sharing accomplishments, connections to our work, the vision moving forward. In other words, before we move into the details, I want to tell you a story about when I sat down with Antonio….Mikaela and I asked him questions….his eyes twinkled when he looked at us and said, QUOTE ABOVE. So what people are telling us is that they are strong, wealthy in so many ways, and that they know that there is much to be done to build healthy communities. That’s what we at AECF can do – standing shoulder to shoulder with the people who are the real “experts.”
