WHAT WE DO - AFFORDABLE HOUSING
Since 1985 Bethlehem Housing and Support Services has been helping the
diversified needs of people across the Niagara Region with affordable housing,
and community support services and programs. Bethlehem is a
non-denominational organization that originated from the efforts of a Christian
Service group called Outreach Niagara, local churches and the Social Planning
and Research Council of St. Catharines and Thorold.
Concerned about issues of homelessness, they wanted to provide affordable
housing with support services that would help people who were at risk to turn
their lives around.
As a multi-service organization, Bethlehem provides affordable housing, targeted programs and support
services for individuals and families who are designated homeless or at risk of becoming homeless due to
issues with poverty, physical disability, mental health, domestic violence and family breakdown.
Transitional Housing Program (Bethlehem Place) is a staged approach to assist client residents to make
a successful transition to having a safe, stable home and tenancy. Clients live at Bethlehem Place for
approximately one year and receive mandatory structured programming and applicable services to meet
their needs to help them rebuild their lives. Support services are continued post-move out when they reside
in Bethlehem’s permanent housing or in the community.
Funded in part by:
Permanent Supported Housing is our long term permanent affordable
and/or subsidized housing with on-site support and advocacy services,
information referral and connection to community services, social and
recreational activities.
OUR MISSION
Bethlehem Housing and Support Services, in partnership with the community, provides affordable housing
and services to support the personal growth of individuals and families.
OUR VISION
Stable affordable housing and support services contribute to a vibrant, caring and
inclusive Niagara where everyone has a home.

2. WHAT WE DO - SUPPORT SERVICES AND PROGRAMS
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Our Community Outreach Support Program offers support services in
collaboration with service provider/agency partners for individuals and families
who are designated homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. A Community
Support Worker connects with individuals where they are at in the community
who then navigates and links them to housing through intake triage and case
management processes, assesses needs and program fit, develops service
plans, refers and transfers them to services and programs that will assist to
achieve goals and retain housing.
Our Community Transitional Outreach Support - Violence Against Women
Program offers support services to women and children who have experienced
domestic violence. A Transitional Support Worker helps women residing in
emergency shelters, transitional housing, social and other accommodations to
identify and access the supports they need to establish violence free lives.
Our Personal Capacity Building Programs are facilitated throughout our
client-base that includes housing supports, goal planning, safety planning,
community based life skills, employability, empowerment, self-esteem and
leadership, mental health awareness, legal matters, anger management,
healthy lifestyle, budget and money management, community-based
recreational and arts activities.
Bethlehem’s Early Learning Resource Centres are free of charge for parents/
caregivers with children age birth to six years of age. The centres include a
variety of parenting and early childhood development programs for all transitional
housing clients and families within the Niagara Region. We also have
after-school and summer camp programs available for school-aged children.
DONATE
Although we receive some financial assistance through funders, Foundations, and government subsidies, there
are additional funds that we must raise on an annual basis to keep our programs and services operating.
Donations can be made online through CanadaHelps.org, by mail, by phone, through legacy giving or by
attending one of our fundraiser events. Please visit www.bethlehemhousing.ca for more information.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Our volunteers are an essential part of our organization. Each year we have over 100 volunteers who support
Bethlehem’s programs, services and events. Volunteer opportunities are always available for Board
committees, event committees, child caregiving, maintenance, office duties, and special events.
