The document discusses the proposed Sethu Samudram Shipping Canal Project which aims to create a shipping canal linking the Palk Bay and Gulf of Mannar between India and Sri Lanka. It would reduce travel distances and times for ships travelling between India's east and west coasts by avoiding the need to navigate around Sri Lanka. The document provides details of the plan including proposed dimensions of the canal and dredging work. It discusses the project's history and changing political support over the decades as well as potential economic benefits likened to the Suez and Panama Canals. Religious objections to disturbing the Ram Sethu are addressed by suggesting an alternative name for the project.

water and resulting low soil oxygen levels are principal determinants of vegetation
and soil development. wetlands will have a relative abundance of obligate
hydrophytes in the vegetation community and soils featuring “hydric” characteristics.

Michael P Totten GreenATP: APPortunities to catalyze local to global positive...Michael P Totten
Humanity’s unceasing ingenuity is generating vast economic gain for billions of people with goods unavailable to even kings and queens throughout most of history. Unfortunately, this economic growth has triggered unprecedented se- curity challenges of global and historical magnitude: more absolute poor than any time in human history, the sixth largest extinction spasm of life on earth, climate destabilization with mega-catastrophic consequences, and multi-trillion dollar wars over access to energy. These multiple, inextricably interwoven chal- lenges have low probability of being solved if decision makers maintain the strong propensity to think and act as if life is linear, has no carrying capacity limits, uncertainty is controllable, the future free of surprises, planning is predictable and compartmentalized into silos, and Gaussian distributions are taken as the norm while fat-tail futures are ignored. Although the future holds irreducible uncertainties, it is not fated. The emergence of Internet availability to one-third of humanity and access by most of humanity within a decade has spawned the Web analogue of a ‘Cambrian explosion’ of speciation in knowledge applica- tions. Among the most prodigious have been collaboration innovation networks (COINs) reflecting a diversity of ‘genome’ types, facilitating a myriad of collective intelligence crowd-swarming phenomena (Malone T, Laubacher R, Dellarocas C. The Collective Intelligence Genome. MIT Sloan Management Review, Spring; 2010, Vol. 51). COINs are essential tools for accelerating and scaling transformational solutions (positive tipping points) to the wicked problems confronting humanity. Web COINs enable acceleration of multiple-benefit innovations and solutions to these problems that permeate the nested clusters of linked nonlinear complex adaptive systems comprising the global biosphere and socioeconomy.

A Study on interlinking of Rivers in A.P & on Kundu River in YSR DistrictLokeswar
River linking is a project linking 2 or more rivers by creating a network of manually created canals and providing water to the land areas that don’t have river water access and reducing the flow of water to sea using this means.
It is based on the assumption that surplus water in some rivers can be diverted to deficit rivers by creating a network of canals to interconnect the rivers.
In this paper, we have taken Andhra Pradesh state as a Case study and mention the alignments and links going on in the A.P and also In this paper we taken Kadapa District as a case study which is suffering from water crisis and going to give an analytical solution about on divert the Kundu flood water and the project going on the Kundu river
The Kashmir Railway is perhaps the most difficult new railway line project undertaken on the Indian subcontinent by the Government of India. The terrain passes through the young Himalayas, which are full of geological surprises and numerous problems. The alignment for the line presents one of the greatest railway engineering challenges ever faced, with the only contest coming from the Qingzang Railway in Tibet that was completed in 2006 and crosses permanently frozen ground and climbs to more than 5,000 m (16,000 ft) above sea level.

2. WHAT IS SETHU CANAL
(SETHU KALVAI)
• The Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project proposes linking the
Palk Bay and the Gulf of Mannar between India and Sri Lanka by
creating a shipping canal.
• The sea is quite shallow, with a depth of less than 10 meters across
most of its extent. Much of its seabed consists of limestone rock. It
formed part of a land bridge that joined Sri Lanka to the continent
ofAsia during the last ice age.
•
• The coast of India does not have a continuous navigation channel
connecting the east and west coasts. Currently the ships coming
from the west coast of India and other western countries with
destination in the east coast of India and also in Bangladesh, China
etc have to navigate around Srilankan coast.
3. WHY- CANAL NEED
• The existing water way is shallow and not sufficient for the
movement of ships. This is due to the presence of a shallow region
known as Adam’s bridge, located southeast of Rameswaram near
Pamban, which connects the Talimannar Coast of Srilanka.
• Due to these factors, the ships originating from west of India and
destined for Chennai, Ennore, Vishakapatnam, Paradeep, Haldia and
Kolkata have to travel around Srilankan coast resulting in increase
of travel distance and time. Apart from these ships belonging to
Indian Navy and Coast Guard need also to traverse around Srilanka.
In order to reduce the steaming distances between the East and
West Coast of India and to improve the navigation within territorial
waters of India, a navigation channel connecting the Gulf of Mannar
and Palk Bay through north of Adam's Bridge has been envisaged so
that the ships moving between the east and west coasts of India
need not go around Sri Lanka .
6. Salient Features of Channel
Two way channel
Bottom Width of Channel = 300 m
Depth of Channel = -12 CD
Permissible Draft of Vessel = 10m
Permissible Speed of Vessel in Channel = 8 Knots
Navigation by day and night
Over all length of Channel = 167 Km
Dredged Channel at north of Adam’s Bridge = 35Km
Dredged Channel at Palk Strait = 54 Km
Maximum Vessel Size
Length = 215 m, Breadth = 33 m, Draft = 10 m
7. HISTORY OF THE PLAN
• It is usually descibed as 150 years of Tamil's
dream to bring in Economic prospects for the
Costal districts of Tamil Nadu.
• In 1955, for the first time since Independence,
the Government of India constituted the
Sethusamudram Project Committee under A
Ramaswamy Mudaliar to examine the feasibility
and desirability of connecting the Gulf of Mannar
with Palk Bay and its impact on the port of
Tuticorin.
8. BJP & CONGRESS
• The committee recommended that the canal project be linked to the
Tuticorin Harbour Project and that both projects be undertaken
simultaneously.
• The cost of the joint, project was then estimated at Rs.9.98 crore.
The Sethusamudram Project Committee report was, however, put in
cold storage. In 1963, the government sanctioned only the Tuti-corin
Port project.
• In 1994, the Tamil Nadu government appointed the Pallavan
Transport Consultancy Services in Chennai to appraise and
revalidate a 1983 report. The new report, submitted in March 1996,
further revised the project cost to Rs.760 crore for 31 feet draft.
Hope on the project was revived in January 1999 when defence
minister George Fernandes announced that the government would
complete the digging of the Sethusamudram channel in three years.
9. UNSTABILITY OF CONGRESS
(USUAL)
• This was backed by the prime minister Vajpayee’s assurance that
his government was committed to the project. Indeed, the government took
a concrete step towards the execution of the project when Union finance
minister Yashwant Sinha, in his Budget 2000-01, allocated Rs.4.8 crore for
a feasibility study of the Sethusamudram project.
• Finally, the United Progressive Alliance Government of India
headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced the
inauguration of the project on June 2, 2005
10. SUDDEN OPPOSE –WHY – POLITICAL
REASON- USING RELIGIOUS FAITH -BJP
• Ironically the Sethusamudram Ship canal
project currently opposed by the BJP and
Sangh Parivar for votebank Politics was
cleared when L.K.Advani was the Indian
Home Minister.
11. COMPARISON – SUEZ CANAL
• SUEZ CANAL – EGYPT - (WORLD FIRST &
LARGEST SEA CANAL DURING 18 TH CENTURY . –
195 KM LONG
• PANAMA CANAL - WORLD SECOND LARGEST
SEA CANAL – CONNECTING AMERICA CONTINENT TO
OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD – DURING 19 TH CENTURY –
75 KM LONG
• SETHU CANAL – MAY BE THIRD CANAL
BUT BECOME SECOND LARGEST CANAL OF THE WORLD
BECAUSE – 167 KM IN LENGTH. “INDIA SHOULD NOT MISS
THE CHANCE”
19. RELIGIOUS BELIEF
• JEWS ,CHRISTIANS & MUSLIMS ARE
• BELIEVE THAT THE SAND MIXWD LIME
STONE BRIDGE WAS CONSTRUCTED BY
ADAM (THE FIRST MAN OF THE WORLD )
• HINDUS BELIEVE THAT THE BRIDGE WAS
CONSTRUCTED BY KING RAMA & HIS
TROOPS
• SCIENTIST & ARCHAELOGIST SAYS THAT IT
IS NOT A BRIDGE BUT ONLY SAND BULGE
DUE TO SHIFT OF OCEAN ( ACCORIND TO
BIG BANG THEORY )
20. SOLUTION – RAM SETHU
CANAL
• NO NEED TO CRITICISE THE BELIEF OF ANY
COMMUNITY . BUT WE NEED GROWTH FOR OUR
COUNTRY.
• AS PER OUR HINDU BROTHERS BELIEF WE CAN
CHANGE PROJECT NAME AS “ RAM SETHU CANAL”
– THE GOD WILL NOT STAND AGAINST THE
GROWTH OF HUMAN KIND
• INDIA SHOULD MADE THE WORLD RECORD .
• ANALYSE & TAKE DECISION BY THINKING THE
FUTURE GENERATION
