Concert Review
I attended this concert at CU Denver s King Center, Concert Hall. Although the architectural design
and surrounding did not attest to much artistic creativity, the actual concert was better than my
expectations. I did have lower expectations because it was presented by students instead of
professional musicians or dancers as in my last concert review. The ensemble, a collaborative outcome
from MSU Denver and other dance/cultural music groups from denver, was actually a mix of African
and Indian/East Asian music and dance. The two teams alternated between each other giving the
audience a great deal of contrast of movement and sound. My favorite were the second and fifth
performances, African and Indian respectively.
The second performance by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They presented a story of a goddess teasing a boy with a magical ball, then throwing it into a pond
where a monster is asleep. The boy then awakens this monster trying to reach the ball. The story is
meant to encourage people to face their fears and fight for what they want. I liked how they used the
same movements when they were describing the story before starting their performance which they
later used during the dance. For example, one of the dancers showed the same throwing movement
which she later used in the performance. The dance was accompanied by an Indian chant like song
over the speakers. It had the same simplistic nature as the African music discussed above which I
again noticed that it put the focus on the dancers. They music and movement was much slower and
calmer than the Africans, which makes sense when seen in light of the Eastern Asian spiritual

Positive Messages On Business Communication
Positive Messages in Business Communication
Introduction
Business communication requires avenues through which leaders, management, and workers
communicate. It also requires the communication process between an organization and its partners, as
well as the customers. In business communication, it is vital for an organization to develop a
communication channel that is not only efficient and effective, but one that relays positive messages.
Positive messages are crucial in developing good relationships with the employees, business partners,
and customers. Research shows that we actually comprehend a positive statement 30 to 40 percent
faster than we do a negative statement, our mind literally has to unscramble negative messages to
determine the meaning (Simoneaux Stroud, 2014). There is a power in using positive messages, a
strategy in building relationships and producing positive results. When using positive messaging it is
beneficial to use the 5 S s, and goodwill messaging. The 5 S s are; selfless, specific, sincere,
spontaneous, and short. This paper looks into the effects of positive messaging, with an emphasis on
goodwill messages, and the 5 S s.
Goodwill Messages In business, companies normally experience internal and external pressures that
may keep them from making various goals. For instance, a company may fail to repay its loans on
time, or fail to pay its workers as required. It is also common for companies to make late deliveries of
products to the

Humor And Alcoholism Essay
Humor and Alcoholism
Introduction
When I think of alcoholism, the first thing that comes to my mind of course is alcohol and then an
addiction to some extent that cannot be broken or a disease that may be hereditary that has been
carried from generation to generation. I never would think to add humor in the equation when explain
or trying to figure out exactly how it fits into the category of alcoholism. However, after some
research I ve found that alcoholism is definitely considered to be an addiction when the person is
suffering from depending on alcohol in order to get by (Farrand, 1896). From prior knowledge, I
understand that when a person drinks alcohol it blurs vision, slurs language, and can even alter the
thought process in other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are also other diseases that humor can be effected in certain areas of the brain, including
Parkinson s Disease and even Autism. Because humor is considered to be an emotional state of mind, I
m sure that the other diseases also share the same region of the brain, the frontal lobe (prefrontal lobe)
may also be effected when a disease takes over the body because the brain keeps the whole the body
functioning, no matter what the disease is. Earlier in the article I explained that there was a low
percentage of Alcoholism in the human population, but it has risen over time because in most years
getting alcohol has become easier over the years; especially when it comes to college campus and
minors. There have been countless programs executed as well in order to reduce the incidents that
have occurred and the programs also raise awareness when it comes to informing the general public
about the negative consequences that may come from alcohol. In the end we have to break habits early
so that they do not turn into

Increased size of ventricles has been observed in MRI of a schizophrenic person. One possible
explanation to enlarged ventricles could have occurred during neurodevelopment causing the illness to
occur (book). However there is evidence that other diseases such as Alzheimer, have enlarged
ventricles and therefore this could prove to us that the disease itself did not cause the ventricle
enlargement but rather the genetic predisposition, resulting in the enlarged ventricles that could
possibly cause schizophrenia or another disease . There is evidence that as the disease continues the

It is involved with a person s movement, thoughts, wellbeing as well as their feelings of pleasure
(Veaugue, 2007).According to the dopamine hypothesis, when high levels of dopamine are found in
the mesolimbic and when low levels of dopamine found in the prefrontal cortex, symptoms of
schizophrenia will occur. When the cortical pathway through the nucleus accumbens is disturbed,
there will be an increase subcortical release of dopamine, which in turn causes the D2 receptor to be
activated. This process will result in positive symptoms of schizophrenia forming. The reduction of
the D1 receptor found in the prefrontal cortex together with the decrease of activity in the nucleus
caudatus will cause negative symptoms of schizophrenia (dopamine). The dopamine hypothesis is the
most accepted hypothesis, yet scientists are still unsure of why there is an excess of dopamine in the
body (article 1?).Glutamate is another neurotransmitter that could possibly be a causing factor in
schizophrenia. Glutamate helps with learning as well as the encoding of memory. A schizophrenic
person will have a lower amount of Glutamate in their body. Dopamine as well as Halucinatnic drugs
PCP block the glutamate receptor sites, lowering the amount of Glutamate in the body (Veague,
2007).Acetylcholine function is participates in the movement, automatic function learning and
memory in the brain. Therefore when acetylcholine is deficient it will cause the persons memory and
learning ability to be affected, this is a schizophrenic symptom (book).Serotonin s function is
controlling mood, appetite and sleep. If there the level of serotonin has decreased (as in schizophrenia)
then it will lead to the symptoms of depression as well as anxiety (book).GABA plays a vital role in
the central nervous system and it take part in moods. In schizophrenia the level is reduced therefore it
causes the symptoms of anxiety

Esther Berdt Reed
Behind Every Great Woman Stands a Great Nation What can women bring to the table that men can t?
The world may seem to be run by men, but three women caught the eye of many people. Esther De
Berdt Reed was a women who took matters into her own hands by creating a fund for the soldiers in
the war. Even though she did not live a long life, she changed how people viewed women. Deborah
Sampson fooled the men standing right next to her. She fought with her fellow brothers against the
British and without them even knowing she was a woman. Though Abigail Adams did not physically
do anything for the women of America, she used her her pen and paper to explain how she really felt
about the titles people give women. Alongside her was her husband John ... Show more content on

Since Esther was British and she married an American man, it was very hard for her to decide which
side to take. She loved her home country, but she could not tolerate the way the British acted towards
the Americans. She became a supporter of American Independence. Through the years Joseph s social
status was rising, Esther saw it as an opportunity to make an impact in the war efforts. She decided to
write Sentiments of an American Women . It was published in the newspaper to spread the word to get
women to join her in her nationalistic organization, the Ladies Association of Philadelphia. The goal
for the Ladies was to raise money to accumulate supplies for the soldiers in the war. Only three days
after the Pennsylvania Gazette published Sentiments of an American Woman more than thirty women
gathered to discuss the best way to aid the Soldiers. The group of ladies split up into groups and went
from door to door trying to earn money. Many people contributed to the cause because they found it
fascinating that there were women asking instead of men. Giving door to door, the society saw the
men as doing work and women staying at home. Due to their hard work, in the end they were very
successful. The Ladies collected more than $300,000 dollars. The money was used to purchase
supplies like cloth, thread, and needles to sew clothes and other apparel for the soldiers. On behalf of
the Ladies Association of Philadelphia, the men s morale was lifted and made it less difficult for the
soldiers to fight for their country. Esther showed people that women could make a difference in the
world. These women worked independently and without the need of men. Esther Reed was a

Beach Boys Caroline
For this week s listening journal, I listened to Caroline No by The Beach Boys. There are many
characteristics of this piece that stood out to me, such as the relationship between the lyrics and the
musical quality and the musical elements that set the tone of the music. At the exposition of Caroline
No there is an eerie drum and cymbal introduction that has a sort of call and response relationship.
The cymbals would play a short melody and the drum beat would follow, this exchange occurred a
couple of times. This exchange between the cymbals and the drums made the piece seem melancholic
and mysterious and sets the mood for the rest of the song. The quality of the voice was interesting
because it was unlike most songs of The Beach Boys I have heard of before. Throughout the song, The
Beach Boys have a slow and relaxing tempo that does not shift as the piece progresses. For the most
part, the tempo remains steady and slow. This steady tempo is accompanied by lyrics that relate to the
overall melancholic mood of the song. The song talks about a girl named Caroline that used to be a ...

In the first verse, at the end of each line there is rhyme. For example, where did your long hair go,
where is the girl that I used to know, how could you lose that happy glow, oh Caroline no. The words
go, know, glow and no all rhyme with each other. This is also present in the second verse between the
words away and say. Furthermore, the last word of each line is sung with melisma. For instance, the
word know is sung with several notes to one syllable. This musical element adds to the smooth and
earthy timbre of The Beach Boys. Also, there is falsetto and harmony throughout Caroline No. The
Beach Boys appear to sing above their normal range and this further contributes to the smooth and
melancholic musical quality. All the singers in The Beach Boys sing in harmony to a beat in

Gender And Race Representation In Media
Personal Reflection
The concept of gender and race representation in media has reminded me that the representation of
people of color is not visible. The push for people of color to act on certain stereotypes shows that the
media wants them to be portrayed in a certain way. The media pushes white people into positive
leading roles that make it difficult for people of color to gain opportunity. Media uses its power to
dissociate themselves on their reasoning on why they do not cast people of color for roles. In their
article, Gender, Race, and Media Representation , Dwight E. Brooks and Lisa P. Hebert states,
Western industrialized societies are stratified by hierarchies of race, gender, and class that structure
our social experience (Brooks Hebert 298) This hierarchy provides the placement of where people will
be casted into media. The representation of gender and race in media has clarified that the hierarchy
they have created, has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

represented in media. The media pushes white people to dominate the leading roles and gives people
of color insignificant roles. Those roles where people of color are typically antagonist or uneducated,
which does not make you want to watch it. I believe it is the media fault for why I have a strong
fondness for white television. They limit my desire to see other television series or movies because
they created their shows in a way where the white protagonist is favored and you want them to

Racial Diversity And The School System
The discussion of integration in schools have multiple forces that continue to be examined today by
race and class. Stratification in today s school systems are segregation in residential neighborhoods.
Most attendance in public schools are determined largely by where students live. Predominantly white
suburbs and poor minority neighborhoods both are grouped by income and race. This particular
grouping can create school districts to be separated by race. Segregation in urban areas of North
Carolina schools could be a concern, and the recent expansion of charter schools has brought up new
fears with regard to the district s desegregation efforts. Does school choice impact racial diversity and
the achievement gap in North Carolina schools? Residential segregation has been a large focal point in
education policies since Brown v. Board of Education overturned the separate but equal act for blacks
and whites in 1954. This helped create some of the first federal policies in creating integrated schools
in America. The ruling in the Supreme Court Case Parents Involved in Community Schools v. Seattle
School District No.1 of 2007, also limited the way that districts could use race to determine school
assignment. Both rulings introduced the notion of parental choice of schools having the possibility to
positively impact school integration. Choice programs of the 1950 s and 1960 s led to racial
integration issues. During the 1970s through the 1990 s brought many new choice programs to

Forced Pooling Issues
How would you feel if you were expecting to get a $5000 check in the mail for selling the mineral
rights under your 10 acre property? After the company starts drilling, however you get a call saying
the deal is off. This is exactly what is happening to a considerable amount of people across the
country. The reason is that a pool of minerals under just one individual s property, but usually under
10 to 20 sets of property and each set of property could be owned by 5 or more people. This means
that 19 or more land owner s rights can be (and have been in several cases) held hostage because one

Meaning, no one can take what is under your land without your consent. Geologist, Hobart King refers
to this as, fee simple estate . If you have a fee simple estate or just own mineral rights you can sell or
lease them to a company who would like to extract the minerals underground. The company will ask
to lease the mineral rights, and potentially lease or buy the land above the mineral deposit. This
depends whether they want to place the drill on location or horizontally drill from another location.
Leasing the minerals is indubitably the preferred route for both parties, so from here on out we will
only refer to it. They will offer a lump sum for the mineral rights. According to Blackbeard Data,
usually $200 $500 per acre. for the amount of land that is over the minerals and they are also entitled
to royalties for the minerals. In most states, the very minimum the company can offer is 12.5% of the
money they make, but this is usually at 20%.

Busting Unions For Fighting Reform Policies
Busting Unions for Fighting Reform Policies In the early chapters of Special Interest Terry Moe
spends much of his energy in attacking the power of the teacher unions. He claims that teachers unions
are the heart of the problem when it comes to organization and reform (Moe, 2011, p. 20). While Moe
claims the NEA (National Education Association) and the AFT (American Federation of Teachers)
have historically lobbied against many reform programs, including voucher programs, charter schools,
and merit pay programs, there is also evidence where teachers unions have supported new reforms.
They have introduced new charter schools and have based salaries on merit pay programs. Former
NEA president Bob Chase delivered a speech in 1997 claiming that the NEA was on the forefront of
education reform. He stated that the NEA invested 70 million dollars on reform initiatives and
sponsored six charter schools across the country (Chase, 1997, p. 372). Educational policy makers
should be in particular interest to these examples especially if they believe in the effectiveness of
reform programs. If policy makers understand the thinking behind why the unions support or oppose
reforms, better policies can be put in place. In addition, policy makers in partnership with the teachers
unions can work hand in hand to successfully coordinate reforms in American education. Moe argues
that the United States has struggled to meet the reform challenge over the past quarter century
specifically in the

Comparing Divergent And The Maze Runner
My two novels, Divergent and The Maze Runner, have many similarities that I would like to discuss.
Firstly, both novels focused on being thrust into a brand new world that the characters were not used
to. Thomas(The Maze Runner protagonist)started off the book with him waking up inside of a cargo
box, traveling upwards at an incredibly high speed, and with only the memory of his name. When Tris
decided to join the Dauntless, she immediately had to adapt and change, from jumping from trains and
buildings to fighting someone until submission or decommission. To add onto that, despite being both
unfamiliar with their new lives, they were able to adapt fairly quickly with Tris being first in the
second and third round of initiation, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thomas started from a person who was scared, confused, and curious, into the one who led them out
of the maze and one of the most important Gladers. On the other hand, Tris was a quiet Abnegation
girl who was struggling to fit into Dauntless. Eventually though she became one of the bravest people
in the story, fending off multiple Dauntless soldiers and stopping the Erudite. There were also, quite
obviously, going through very different situations. While, Tris had to fight her way to the top ten, hide
her Divergence, and save an entire faction, Thomas was trying to figure out what his flashbacks
meant, how he could get out of the maze, and why he had so much responsibility. Based on all of this
information, I believe that dystopian fiction really seems to focus on themes of sacrifice, friendship,
and most important of all, overthrowing the system . For example, another dystopian fiction novel that
has all three of these themes is The Hunger Games. In the Hunger Games, Katniss, the protagonist,
risks her life for her sister s wellbeing, makes alliances with other tributes and rebels, and attempts to
overthrow the Capitol. The main plot point of Divergent was to stop the Erudite, the most power
hungry of all five factions. Finally, Thomas stops WICKED, a group of scientists that experimented on
the Gladers. During all three of these dystopian fiction novels the protagonists and their friends

Righteousness In The Canterbury Tales
In The General Prologue to the Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer uses the value of righteousness to
clearly distinguish between the pilgrims the exceptional, the decent and the terrible. The goodness of
the pilgrims is determined, by Chaucer, based on his or her ability to adhere to their own superior
moral standards. Some pilgrims, like the Parson and the Plowman, are highly praised by Chaucer for
their righteous qualities. Some on the other hand like the Summoner and Pardoner, are chastised for
their dishonorable ways of living. Chaucer is sometimes discreet in giving praise and sometimes gives
the praise outright. His knack for sarcasm gives the reader a good idea of what he clearly finds
unadmirable as he pokes at the good qualities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are clearly characters who are nothing but righteous, following a moral path and making
decisions because it s the right thing to do not because of what they will get out of it. However, there
are also vulgar and corrupt characters who act out of greed and desire. The highly praised ones are the
ones that know what the right thing to do is, and do it. The ones Chaucer scolds are the ones who have
unjust motives behind all of their actions and never think twice about it. Though Chaucer values
righteousness, being righteous today won t get anyone far. The definition of right or wrong is now
highly debated and the wrong thing is very easy to do behind the screen of technology. Also, though
being righteous is undoubtedly a good quality, today it is often overlooked and not appreciated as well
as it should be. However, based on Chaucer s preferences towards certain characters who exhibit
moral behavior, righteousness is exactly what he values in

Google Is Not A Conventional Company
As Sergey and I wrote in the original founders letter 11 years ago, Google is not a conventional
company. We do not intend to become one. As part of that, we also said that you could expect us to
make smaller bets in areas that might seem very speculative or even strange when compared to our
current businesses. From the start, we ve always strived to do more, and to do important and
meaningful things with the resources we have.
We did a lot of things that seemed crazy at the time. Many of those crazy things now have over a
billion users, like Google Maps, YouTube, Chrome, and Android. And we haven t stopped there. We
are still trying to do things other people think are crazy but we are super excited about.
We ve long believed that over time companies tend to get comfortable doing the same thing, just
making incremental changes. But in the technology industry, where revolutionary ideas drive the next
big growth areas, you need to be a bit uncomfortable to stay relevant.
Our company is operating well today, but we think we can make it cleaner and more accountable. So
we are creating a new company, called Alphabet. I am really excited to be running Alphabet as CEO
with help from my capable partner, Sergey, as President.
What is Alphabet? Alphabet is mostly a collection of companies. The largest of which, of course, is
Google. This newer Google is a bit slimmed down, with the companies that are pretty far afield of our
main internet products contained in Alphabet

Analysis Of Alexander IIi The Great King Of Macedonia And...
Success without honor is an unseasoned dish; it will satisfy your hunger, but it won t taste good. ~Joe
Paterno. Alexander III the Great, King of Macedonia and conqueror of the Persian Empire is
considered to be one of the best military geniuses of all times. He was inspiration for conquerors to
come such as Hannibal, Napoleon, and Pompey along side Caesar. Alexander was born in 356 BC in
Pella, the ancient capital of Macedonia.1 Alexander s childhood had a major impact on his later life
and his military strive. At a young age Alexander watched his father turn Macedonia into a mass
military power. His father won many great battles all throughout the Balkans. When he was just
twelve years old, he showed off his horse riding skills to his father and many others. He tamed a
Bucephalus, a rowdy steed. Bucephalus was supposedly unable to be ridden, and all who had tried to
tame it had their flesh devoured . When he was 13, his father Philip hired philosopher Aristotle to be
his teacher. For three years Alexander learned about science, medicine, and philosophy. In 340 BC,
when Alexander was only 16 years old, Phillip invaded Trace and left Alexander in charge of
Macedonia. While he was in power a Thracian tribe posed a threat, and Alexander constructed an
army and lead them against the rebels. Not only were the Thracian rebels defeated, but also Alexander
captured their stronghold and named it Alexandropolis after himself.1 Once Alexander turned 18 his
father made him one

Diversity In The Classroom
Maya Angelou once said, It is time for parents to teach young people early on that in diversity there is
beauty and there is strength. When we send our children to school, they are segregated based on the
letter D (diversity, disabled, dysfunction), showing the young that not all children can enjoy the same
educational opportunities that they are provided in schools. This is due to a controversial topic among
teachers and parents known as inclusion. It s time we put an end to this separation and bring inclusive
classrooms to all schools. Inclusion secures opportunities for students with disabilities to learn
alongside their non disabled peers in general education classrooms. Classrooms that establish a

Their minds spinning with the thought that their children will be brushed to the side and not given the
same attention, while teacher fear they become frazzled. They tend to believe that children with
disabilities are uneducable or are a burden on the mainstream educational system. Segregating
students with disabilities can lead to a greater gap between society and themselves, a situation that
people with disabilities face daily. But imagine the parents of the children who are not given the same
educational opportunities, parents of disabled students understand better than anyone, the fears, and
struggles that come into teaching their children. In America nearly 40 percent of children with
disabilities do not graduate (Diamont, 2015). Low expectations and lack of discipline are likely to play
a major key. Special Education classes also do not provide any form of transition between a sheltered
school environment and the real world. Not being able to conduct themselves in social situations or
proper ways of handling overwhelming stress in a job field, these all of potentially disastrous results.

The Theory Of American Exceptionalism
Mandisa Nickerson
POL 2001
May 20, 2015
Final Paper: Question 2 The theory of American Exceptionalism has been around for decades and
outlines what makes the United States so unique based on our governmental structure and our
willingness to defend accordingly. Recently, there have multiple claims that America is not the
superpower it once was based on its unwillingness to become involved in many foreign affairs. Many
believe that instead of America taking care of their responsibilities as the number one democratic
superpower, they are admitting defeat by not tackling these international issues. There have also been
multiple attacks on America s model of democracy and how even a democracy as strong and stable as
ours has encountered dilemmas amongst its economic, political and cultural sectors. American power
is being put into question and the idea of globalization either positively or negatively affecting this
power is up for debate. Based on Americas past disputes pertaining involvement in international
relations, Americas role in world affairs should continue to be less active. Getting involved will
eventually lead to weakening of democratic principles thus ending our exceptionalist nature and
moving us into declination. America s form of democracy is one of the most important reasons why
the United States remains the top superpower. Democracy is defined as a government by the people in
which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by

Negative Effects Of School Lunches
School lunch is an important meal for kids that go to school everyday, but many people wonder about
the actual benefits of school lunch provided to kids. School lunch is meant to provide kids the energy
to push through the rest of the day and continue to work hard mentally. School lunch is meant to fill a
kid s empty stomach if they missed breakfast or are just hungry. Kids are always advised to eat healthy
and get all of their necessary nutrients everyday. Most kids don t often get their necessary nutrients at
school though, especially because of the choices provided to them by their schools. In some cases,
kids can t afford to bring their own lunch from home because of financial reasons. This can also relate

You may need to just put a little salt on something, they ll eat it (Mecia 1). I agree with that statement
so much because kids nowadays are likely to eat something sugary and salty rather than something
with less favor, like vegetables. I think this is a major problem in school lunches, especially with all
the the repetitive food choices and its nutrition values. You can t force picky eaters to consume food
they find unappealing (Mecia 1). I think a possible solution to helping kids to eat school lunches is to
provide balanced foods to them with maybe a little salt to encourage them to eat it. For everyone,
there is always a risk in what they eat. For kids, it s what is in their school lunches. There has been
many incidents in the past with school lunches. In 1996, bacteria in spaghetti served at five schools in
Sacramento, California, made 400 children sick (Abc News 1). In 1998, 1,200 students in seven states
became ill after eating burritos from a plant in Chicago (Abc News 1). Those infected kids had no idea
what they were being served at their own school. This is something most kids and even parents do not
think about. It can all be very concerning because no one is questioning what is actually in the school
lunches. The food inspection may not be enough. There can always be something that they missed.
For most people, food is a requirement to fulfill most

Title: Study of Evolution in Mitochondria through different species of plants and Animals.
ID#:04635
Introduction: The mitochondria is a double membrane organelle that is found in all eukaryotic
organisms. There is some evidence that proves some eukaryotes lack mitochondria, but there is no true
evidence about complete lack of mitochondria in the organisms. Mitochondria is known as a power
house of the living body cell. They store energy in the cell and release it as needed. Every structure in
Mitochondria have their own specific roles which helps in storing energy (See Figure 1 for details).
Evidence shows that mitochondria evolved from primitive bacteria. Is it really evolved from primary
bacteria or were they the new adaptation in the plant and animal body? In this paper we are going to
see how Mitochondrion have been evolved in different species and what methods have been used to
prove that evolution. There is still debate between scientists about whether mitochondrion really
evolved from bacteria or if it was present in the cells before bacteria were present. Yung et al. [1] says
that Mitochondria s cytochromes c (which is a mitochondrial intermembrane protein that is loosely
attached to the inner membrane of mitochondrial membrane) is relatively close to the bacterial
medium subunit in sequence of cytochrome. However,

The Adoration Of Jenna Fox Research Paper
Imagine a world where parental expectations did not exist for children entirely. Should they really be
in place? While some people may argue that parental expectations may be too much pressure for
offspring, they usually keep children s behavior rational, have an impact on their children and their
future, and goals are usually a source of motivation to do better. First, the reason parental expectation
is set in place, to begin with, is to regulate children and their actions. Second of all, having certain
achievements to meet has a significant impact on children and their future. Lastly, the need to meet
accomplishments set forth by the head(s) of the family serve as a way to improve on one s self for
children. For these reasons, parental expectations should be made.
To begin with, parental expectations keep children s behavior in check. In The Adoration of Jenna
Fox, by Mary E. Pearson, this point is represented by the character s protagonist, Jenna Fox.

Compare And Contrast Sumer And Babylon
Impact of Fertile Cresent Cultures
Sumer and Babylon
Both, the people that belonged to Sumer(Sumerians) and Babylon (Babylonians) were part of the
early/ancient Mesopotamian civilizations; however since Sumer was the first civilization on record in
Mesopotamia and started off much more early than the Babylonian civilization, it couldn t have
adapted anything that the Babylonian civilization created. However the other way around.
Babylonians did adapt some things about the Sumerians and had some similarities in their culture, but
they still stayed original in their way.
First off, the Babylon empire was much more expanded, bigger, than Sumer due to the Babylonian
ruler, Hammurabi, who is famous for his ruling and Hammurabi s code; The Sumers ... Show more

Another governmental similarity would be that they both consisted of a lot of city states in
Mesopotamia.
Both civilizations fell apart but made a comeback which led to eventual downfall again. Sumer s
destruction was caused by the extreme drought, which as we know, left salt deposits that destroyed the
crops in Sumer, after that, it got conquered by the Akkadians. Time later, Sumerians made a
comeback, taking back their Land, expelling the invaders, but that did not last long since Amorites
came and invaded the region.
A similar thing happened to the Babylon empire, it was invaded/conquered by the Kassites in 1595,
staying in power for 400 years but then got overcome by the Assyrians. The Babylon Empire, Neo
Babylonian empire then rose back to power in 626 BC, led by the son of King Nabopolassar,
Nebuchadnezzar II, he was responsible for leading the built of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.
Unfortunately, it did not take long for the Neo Babylonian empire to fall after Nebuchadnezzar II died,
when the Persians invaded

if he found himself back in the Colosseum, the crowd would once again persuade Caesar to let him

glimpse of his love, but she was the Emperor s daughter, and he was low class. There was even only a

holding their breath. We re leaving now. He said harshly. Everyone needs to go home! The guards
started to evacuate the Romans. With one last look at a frightened Marcus, Aurelia rubbed her cheek
when her father looked away, and strode after her father out the colosseum door. The hum of the
crowd rose slightly at the harsh actions of Caesar. They didn t speak against their Emperor, but instead

know how to feel about this boy. He seemed nice enough, but comforting Aurelia was his job. He
cautiously rushed to her side, shot a curious glance at the boy, and pulled Aurelia into an embrace.
Um.... Who are you? Questioned the unknown boy with the brown hair. He was staring at Marcus with

Mexicans and The Lady of Guadalupe Essay

cultures, along with the other cultures that are all over the world. The Lady of Guadalupe is someone

that is represented in the European culture, and the Lady of Guadalupe in the Aztec and Native culture

MEMORARE TO OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary of Guadalupe, that in thy celestial apparitions on the mount
of Tepeyac, thou didst promise to show thy compassion and pity towards all who, loving and trusting
thee, seek thy help and call upon thee in their necessities and afflictions.
Thou didst promise to hearken to our supplications, to dry our tears and to give us consolation and
relief. Never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy
intercession, either for the common welfare, or in personal anxieties, was left unaided.
Inspired with this confidence, we fly unto thee, O Mary, ever Virgin Mother of the True God! Though
grieving under the weight of our sins, we come to prostrate ourselves in thy august presence, certain
that thou wilt deign to fulfill thy merciful promises. We are full of hope that, standing beneath thy
shadow and protection, nothing will trouble or afflict us, nor need we fear illness, or misfortune, or
any other sorrow.
Thou hast decided to remain with us through thy admirable image, thou who art our Mother, our
health and our life. Placing ourselves beneath thy maternal gaze and having recourse to thee in all our
necessities we need do nothing more. O Holy

Underground 4 most definitely followed the three act structure, with the intro act one starts with the
final outcome of the film (YouTube, 2017).
The girl from the film telling her grandchild through a song about her past. I felt this is a very
interesting way to start the film. ACT 2, the inciting incident is when the grandmother is a child and
the protagonist, the father overhears an antagonist, a slave owner, talking about buying his child. The
second act also holds the first turning point, when the father has made up his mind to run and a female
slave tries to talk him out of it, however, end up running together.
ACT 3 gives us the low point and the climax when the protagonist, the father is caught and hong right
in front of his child. the grandmothers the connection to this story is a little vague but it does become
clear at the end. The fact the young girl survives is a testament to sacrifice the protagonist, the father

Yojimbo Theme
In Akira Kurosawa s movie Yojimbo the time, characters are inspired by the Japanese History. Like
the story happening after the collapse of the Tokugawa Era. However there are several indication that
some of the techniques used were based from Western films and its style and technique. During the
first part of the movie where Sanjuro came to the deserted village that is somewhat abandoned by the
Japanese Government, in actuality it is more like a ghost town. It showed a classic western wild west
setting where a stranger passes by the empty town while the wind is blowing the leaves and dust. The
villagers are scared on what might happen to him and village so the stranger was advised to leave. But
of course like the western classic Sanjuro ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though they do not have the same plot as Yojimbo where there is a stranger that goes to a town
and save it from two gangs. One of the main theme that the Yojimbo have is it shows the condition of
people in a town that is ruled by gangs. Most of the people in the world have somehow know this kind
of situation whether it is from their history or they experience it themselves. The constant fear of
fights broking out and the villagers being affected by it. The westerns adapting the Yojimbo showed
that they themselves have this kind of history in the past, where the government have abandoned the
town and the local police cannot do anything to stop these abusive gangs, whether it is only one gang
or two. Another theme is these gangs have slaves which is also a universal theme that many people
have learned that this kind of oppression and abuse is shown in history books. Lastly another
important theme that have been adapted and is still being adapted by many movies is having a hero
that despises the weak and is somewhat selfish, opportunistic and manipulative. But in the end these
character have a soft spot like what is seen in the Yojimbo . Even though there are variation on this
kind of theme, the main focus here is that there is a hero that will come and save a village or town
from bad things or people such as gangs. The fact that these themes are very powerful and many
people can relate to this and have a great appeal to the audience showed how successful Yojimbo

Copping Research Paper
Coping is the active effort to master, reduce or tolerate the demands which are created by stress. When
a person is going through a stressful event, the adrenal glands release catecholamines into the
bloodstream. This mobilizes the body for action. Along with this, the hypothalamus sends signals to
the pituitary gland which secretes the hormone (ACTH) which, in turn, stimulates a release of
hormones called corticosteroids. These stimulate the release of chemicals that increase a person s
energy and inhibits inflammation of tissues if a person gets injured. All of this is going on in the body
when a person is under stress. If a person does not find a way to cope with stress, all this action in the

Icc Of The Icc Constitution And Structure Essay
In early 2014, an ICC meeting was held in Singapore to discuss possible revisions to the ICC
constitution and structure. The main matter to be discussed was the potential formation of a big three ,
which would completely overhaul cricket s governance and finances. Eight out of the ten full ICC
members voted in favor of the changes, which would give greater authority and autonomy to England,
Australia and India, with only two nations Pakistan and Sri Lanka abstaining from the vote. This
meeting led to the formation of the big three in international cricket. Originally, member nations
would receive equal distribution of the money generated from world tournaments and television deals.
Now, however, India, Australia, and England would gain a larger piece of the aggregate revenue and
smaller countries would be victims to drastic budget cuts. Furthermore, a new executive committee
will be formed with five members to discuss pertinent ICC financial and competition matters, with
England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Cricket Australia (CA) and Board of Control for Cricket in
India (BCCI) all guaranteed a permanent place in the committee. The ICC which claims to promote
and protect equality and fairness in cricket, is clearly working against its ideals when it passed this
resolution to form the big three . Now the power balance has shifted and smaller countries are now
weaker because of this new deal. India, Australia and England now have an oligopoly on international
cricket,

The reliability of eyewitness testimony has become a popular research topic in applied and social

However, discussion among victims or witnesses to a crime is difficult, if not impossible to prevent
(Yarmey, 1992, p. 252). The concern that witnesses might talk to each other has been confirmed by a
survey conducted in Australia (Paterson Kemp, 2006). They found that if the respondent had
witnessed a serious event and there was a co witness present, 86% of the respondents had discussed
the witnessed event together, of which 63% percent had done so immediately after the witnessed
event. In another survey by Paterson and Kemp (2005), police officers confirmed the observation that
co witnesses frequently discuss the witnessed event together, and also indicated that such discussions
are difficult to prevent. Discussion between eyewitnesses seems inevitable, and several researchers
have emphasized the negative effects of discussion on group memory, such as memory distortion,
(Basden, Basden, Bryner, Thomas 1997; Weldon, Bellinger, 1997), or memory conformity (Wright
Schwartz, 2008; French, Garry, Mori, 2008) that occurs due to the group process. Whereas the first
refers to the effect that an individual s memory is altered by new information, the second refers to the
phenomenon of someone s memory being altered as a result of the influence of other people s
memories On the other hand, little research has been conducted regarding the possible positive effects
of discussion on eyewitness memory recall.

Why Is Empathy Important In Human Services
Conflicting messages will inevitably hinder our communication and our ability to help those we serve.
The Skill of Empathy Another important skill in the field of human services would be empathy. In the
last two years, I have learned the difference between sympathy and empathy. Sympathy actually
separates and isolates individuals, while empathy empowers them. As helpers, we cannot stand on a
pedestal reaching down and effectively help others. Empathy allows us to bring others up to equal
grounds where we can be much more effective.
Some research even suggest that empathy is the key. It has been suggested that individuals often have
the tools they need to live fulfilling lives and to better themselves, if only given the power to believe.

All different facets of the human services field require a professional relationship. This field of service
involves helping people, and in order to help people, we must enter into some form of relationship. I
believe that respect is a key element of a successful relationship. As helpers, we must be able to
respect others. We must respect their views and opinions; we must respect their customs and beliefs;
and we must respect their individual right of choice. I believe many of the basic fundamentals of
human service, such as confidentiality, empathy, and even antonym, can fall under the umbrella of
respect. If I truly respect, another I will not try to force my own agenda, and if I truly respect another,
I will keep in confidence the information they have shared. I believe that respect is a right that should
be granted to everyone without limitations, however, respect doesn t require agreement or even
acceptance. I have developed the ability to respect the views of others without conforming, which for
me is a true sign of personal growth. The last two years has taught me that I can find validation
without conformity, and that I can respect and even admire the diversity of

What Were The Main Problems With The Articles Of 1787
The Articles of Confederation, ratified on March 1, 1781, created the structure for the confederation of
the 13 colonies that fought in the American Revolution. It set up a federal government with very
limited powers, and it gave most of the power to the 13 states. Within a short period of time, the
Constitution of 1787 was ratified to solve the problems that the Articles of Confederation did not
address. The Articles of Confederation had major problems, caused by the fear of a distant national
government, which would get solved six years later in the Constitution. One main problem with the
Articles of Confederation was a weak national government, where Congress did not have the power to
levy taxes. In Article 8 of the Articles of Confederation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was a major problem because even though Congress was the only component of government,
they did not have the power to force the states to do anything. The government was unable to force or
interpret laws. In the Articles of Confederation, Article 2 states, Each state retains its sovereignty,
freedom, and independence, and every power, jurisdiction, and right, which is not by this
Confederation expressly delegated to the United States, in Congress assembled (Articles of
Confederation, Article II). This declares that each state can keep their jurisdiction, which meant that
each state has its own power to regulate their own laws. Moreover, any rights and powers that are not
given to Congress by the Articles of Confederation are kept by the state. Since the government did not
have an executive branch, there was no one to enforce the laws created by Congress. Theoretically,
Congress could raise an army, but they could not force any states to send people to go to war or force
the states to give them any equipment necessary for the war. This shows how little power Congress
actually had under the Articles of Confederation. Furthermore, even if Congress passed a law for the
citizens of the United States, the states could ignore the law and there would be no consequences.

Slaughterhouse-Five Vonnegut

Vonnegut could possibly have lost reader s interests in the book or lost his own interest in writing the

Another literary device Vonnegut uses within his Slaughterhouse Five is black humor. This is found in
the book so readers are able to feel more lighthearted when remembering the war. There are though,
critics who believe by adding black humor, Vonnegut is degrading the tragedy of war. I believe
Vonnegut uses black humor in his attempt to console readers (as well as himself), in hopes of making
the horrific, painful, unthinkable events of the war more bearable to read about. Just in the first
chapter readers see Mary O Hare s frustration towards Vonnegut for even wanting to write a book

The U.S. Discussion Ever since the revelation of the atrocious Nazi medical experiments, informed

As the tribunal at Nuremberg put it:
The voluntary consent of the human subject is essential. This means that the person involved should
have the legal capacity to give consent; should be so situated as to be able to exercise free power of
choice, without the intervention of force, fraud, deceit, duress, overreaching or other ulterior form of

John Brown Martyr Essay
John Brown was many things when he was alive, an abolitionist, a father and a husband. Most of all
he was a martyr; a vigilante someone who acts outside the law. Brown acted outside the law for a
cause that he strongly believed in. He is a martyr by opinion and definition.
The abolitionist movement used to be miniscule compared to the pro slavery stance. John Brown was
one of a handful of white people who were anti slavery. It was a cause he was willing to die for. A
cause he had an enormous amount of passion for. Brown in 1855 had assisted in the escape of several
slaves. An act that was selfless. He during the time had a sizeable amount of lawsuits against him, all
of which relating to his employment in the wool industry. The lawsuits are of relevance when

1947. It took out huge loans from American, German and French banks. By 1900, Haiti was spending
about 80% of its national budget on loan repayments. By the time the original reparations and interest
were paid off, the place was basically destitute and trapped in a spiral of debt, (Henley, 2010). Tired of
dealing with a failed government, another revolution began in 1911. This revolution led to a long
period of US occupation. Following failed dictators, regimes, and governments, François ¬ Papa Doc
Duvalier became the leader of Haiti in 1957. His regime was one of darkness, death, and oppression,

Changing Eating Habits In The United States
Changing Eating Habits United States is the leading country on obesity where the poor people is obese
and not the rich people. Young people are more propense to have bad eating habits because bad food is
economic and easy to eat than healthy food. Obese has increased over the years and a change is
needed for this problem. The government should take its role in public health by taxing unhealthy

workout regimen with their busy schedules. According to Larissa Hirsch, a writer who specializes in
children and young adult health, stress from classes and homesickness can prevent students from
making exercise a part of their regular schedule. Because college coursework requires more of a time
commitment than high school coursework, students tend to prioritize homework over staying healthy.
Students need to take care about their health as they do for their homework. If the government made

Weapons of the First World War
Research Overview of WW1 Weapons During World War I many new kinds of weapons and
technology were invented and improved. Some of these weapons included tanks, chemical and
biochemical weapons, grenades, and machine guns. Chemical Warfare was used for the first time on a
large scale in World War I. There are two main types of chemical warfare, one affects the surface of
the body they come in contact with and the other affects the nervous system. Almost all chemical
warfare weapons needed to be inhaled to cause severe damage or death. Chemicals that caused
neurological damage acted by blocking the transmission of nerve messages throughout the body, these
types of chemicals included tabun, soman, sarin, and VX ( Chemical and Biological ... Show more

Chemicals that attack the nervous system are very powerful and can cause death within minutes of
inhalation. Nerve agents work by blocking the transmission of nerve messages within the body (
Chemical and Biological Warfare ). A single drop of nerve agent can shut down the entire body s
nervous system in a few minutes ( Chemical and Biological Warfare ). Tanks were first used in combat
in September of 1916 by the British ( The WW1 Tank ). When tanks were first created they were
basically an armored car with a track instead of tires for easier off road use. The first prototypes of
tanks were very flawed and would take a lot of improvements to become what they are today. They
were not well adapted to moving over uneven muddy battle fields so the tanks were easily bogged
down by mud and sometimes got completely stuck. Tanks were not only effective by their protective
properties but also had a scare factor towards the beginning of the war since they were new and the
German army had not experienced them in battle before. View slits were one of the main problems
with the first tanks. For one they were too small to be able to effectively see anything out of them
while the tank was moving. And the slits were targets for enemy gunshot.
The name tank came from the British, they shipped the parts for tanks in crates marked tanks to try
and disguise what was

Beyond 1492 Encounter In Colonial North America Summary
Read Write #1 Beyond 1492: Native Reactions to Invasion America has come a long way since
Columbus began his voyage in 1492. In Beyond 1492: Encounter in Colonial North America, James
Axtell explains that when it comes to the Indian European encounter, there s more to the story than
what the average person grasps. Most people know of how the Natives were mistreated and killed off
by the Europeans with biological warfare and that a couple thousands of years later the Pilgrims and
Natives had their first feast together known as Thanksgiving . However, in chapter four, Axtell s essay
describes that surprisingly, there was a variety of ways Indians responded to the Europeans that
invaded their lands in the wake of Columbus. Axtell chronologically recapitulates the history of the
Indian reactions to the European encounters up until the 1700 s and categorizes them into 5 strategies.

upon their notion during the initial encounters. Amongst the many ways the Natives reacted to the
Europeans, Axtell stated that the Natives employed 5 different strategies being to incorporate them
and when that didn t work, they attempted to beat them, then join them, then parrot them in their ways
enough to trounce them in their own game. When all of the above failed, they resulted to ignore them

by Boaz Yakin. The movie includes famous stars such as Denzel Washington as Coach Herman
Boone, Will Patton as Coach Bill Yoast, and Wood Harris as Julius `Big Ju . The movie takes place in
Alexandria, Virginia. The schools in Alexandria were segregated based on race. It was in 1971 when
the school board forced the people to combine the white schools and the black schools in to one called
T.C. Williams High School. Coach Boon (Denzel Washington) who came from North Carolina was
put as a head coach by the school board which made the former coach and the white player unhappy
because of his skin color. Boone offered Yoast a defensive coordinator position which he refused first
but then was forced to accept the offer when the white player and their families pledged to boycott the
school if he don t participate. Herman was seen as savior from discrimination and segregation by the
African American people. Coach Herman took the team to a football camp to prepare them for the
season. Coach Herman Boone forced the players to sit and room together because he wanted the black
and the white players to learn to respect each other and embrace their difference. The African
Americans and white players were regularly fighting and arguing for instance captain Gerry Bertier

How Did Achilles Get An Arrow In The Odyssey
After Hector s death, Achilles knew his death was soon.
Prince Memnon of Ethiopia came to the Trojans aid.
Even though Hector was gone, the Greeks had lost many warriors.
However, Achilles was able to kill Memnon before his death.
Paris had shot an arrow at the heel of his foot, the only vulnerable part of his body.
Thetis had made his whole body invulnerable by dipping him in the River Styx.
She had forgotten to dip the heel of the foot, where she was holding by.
After his death, he was burned on the funeral pyre and placed beside Patroclus, his best friend.
Achilles armor made by Hephaestus would be given to the warriors who best deserved it: Odysseus or
Ajax.
After a secret vote, Odysseus was chosen, but it angered Ajax.

their way to Troy.
Although the plan was to steal the weapons, Odysseus convinves him to come with them.
Once there, Philoctetes kills Paris with the arrow.
Paris was taken to a drug to heal his wound, but was refused by a goddess.
After seeing him die, she had also kills herself.

prevents Troy from being taken.
With the help of Diomedes, Odysseus was able to steal it.

Behind the Art Essay
Behind the Art
What is art? By definition it is, An occupation requiring knowledge or skill (Merriam). Many people
would argue that late artist Jackson Pollock s work would not go under this category. But Pollock s
paintings were not random splats and splashes, but carefully planned and expertly executed works of
art.
In order to understand Pollock s work, it s important that you know a little about him. Jackson Pollock
was born in Wyoming in 1912. His family moved around the southwest before settling in Los Angeles.
At age 18 he dropped out of high school and moved to New York, where he struggled for more than a
decade to make it as an artist.
Pollock was a very complex and emotionally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From 1938 to 1942 Pollock worked for the Federal Art Project, and by the mid 1940 s he was painting
in a completely abstract manner (Moore).
In 1944 Jackson met and married Lee Krasner, also an abstract impressionist of great influence in the
20th century. In 1947 Pollock abruptly started working in what he is now famous for, his drip and
splash method. He continued painting throughout the early 1950 s (Landau 22).
Jackson was most well known for his drip paintings, which were created in a very unheard of and
unusual way. He attached his canvases to the floor, dancing around them and attacking them from all
four sides. He would use almost anything but a paintbrush to apply the paint to the canvas. Pollock
most often stood over the work slinging paint with sticks, trowels, or knives. This would later earn
him the name, Jack the Dripper (Lehrer). He would also embed things onto his painting surface, such
as sand, broken glass, nails, pebbles, string, and other foreign matter. This gave it texture and depth.
He had an exceptional interest in sand paintings, as he had studied about the Southwest Indians that
made sand paintings as a ritual to heal an unhealthy or diseased person. Jackson actually witnessed a
sand painting ceremony and was most interested. Also when he painted he would drip and splatter
many layers onto one another making the

The Mental Capacity Act 2005
Answer: Introduction: The Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA 2005) introduced a statutory framework
for advance decision making in England and Wales building upon the common law recognition of
advance decisions. Academics considered that a bias may operate against upholding advance decisions
refusing life sustaining treatment 1. It s commonly felt that judges usually give decisions favouring
preservation of life and making advance decisions invalid on various grounds. Recent case law
indicates that a high level of specificity is required for advance refusals of life sustaining treatment
and, in some capacity must be demonstrated at the time of making the decision. This essay will argue
the legal back ground of the advance decisions and relevant case law. There are suggestions that
advance care planning (ACP) instead of advance decisions (ADRT) may be more helpful when it
comes to the practice of law on ground 2. The Mental Capacity Act 2005: The MCA 2005 introduced
the statutory framework for the advance decisions as follows: A decision made by a person ( P ) after
he has reached 18 and when he has capacity to do so, that if (a) at a later time and in such
circumstances as he may specify, a specified treatment is proposed to be carried out or continued by a
person providing health care for him, and (b) at that time he lacks capacity to consent to the carrying
out or continuation of the treatment, the specified treatment is not to be carried out or

Asserting Your Independence by Testing The Boundaries of...
caught in their own individual marital obligations to people other than themselves. The passion they
have for each other, though, overtakes any kind of desire to stay committed to their spouses with
minimal regrets as the story progresses. A great majority of the narrative in the The Storm implies that
testing ones boundaries in human sexuality is one of the more passionate forms of asserting one s own
independence. This approach greatly contradicts the opposing beliefs of traditional cultures that have
an extreme disapproval of any kind of experimentation or heavy passion outside of one s own
marriage. Despite the fact that extra marital activities such as the ones that occurred between Calixta

Being alone with this prior lover, though, brought back that longing for him and it was stronger than
ever before. There was something she had with Alcee that was not present in her relationship with
Bobinot. She loved him, but one thing was missing that she at the time could not put her finger on. It
was passion. The zeal she shared with Alcee overtook her and she was the first one to initiate the
situation that her and Alcee found themselves in when ... she [Calixta] rolled up a piece of bagging
and Alcee helped her to thrust it beneath the crack (532). As with the rest of the story, the imagery in
this quote is extremely sexual. Calixta knew what she wanted and she was anything but shy in going
out of her way to get it. Alcee may not have been aware at first, but as he helped her thrust the bagging
under the door to keep out the storm brewing outside, he was also aiding in keeping in the other
obvious storm about to erupt inside.
Alcee started feeling the tension soon enough though and he began noticing every beautiful physical
aspect of Calixta possible. It may not have been intentional, but Alcee himself did not have the power
inside of him to stop it, nor did he even want to stop it. In describing the way Alcee had started
viewing Calixta, Chopin wrote:
Her lips were as red and moist as pomegranate seed. Her white neck and a glimpse of her full, firm
bosom disturbed him powerfully. As she glanced up at him the fear in her liquid blue eyes had

  • 2. Concert Review I attended this concert at CU Denver s King Center, Concert Hall. Although the architectural design and surrounding did not attest to much artistic creativity, the actual concert was better than my expectations. I did have lower expectations because it was presented by students instead of professional musicians or dancers as in my last concert review. The ensemble, a collaborative outcome from MSU Denver and other dance/cultural music groups from denver, was actually a mix of African and Indian/East Asian music and dance. The two teams alternated between each other giving the audience a great deal of contrast of movement and sound. My favorite were the second and fifth performances, African and Indian respectively. The second performance by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They presented a story of a goddess teasing a boy with a magical ball, then throwing it into a pond where a monster is asleep. The boy then awakens this monster trying to reach the ball. The story is meant to encourage people to face their fears and fight for what they want. I liked how they used the same movements when they were describing the story before starting their performance which they later used during the dance. For example, one of the dancers showed the same throwing movement which she later used in the performance. The dance was accompanied by an Indian chant like song over the speakers. It had the same simplistic nature as the African music discussed above which I again noticed that it put the focus on the dancers. They music and movement was much slower and calmer than the Africans, which makes sense when seen in light of the Eastern Asian spiritual philosophy of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Positive Messages On Business Communication Positive Messages in Business Communication Introduction Business communication requires avenues through which leaders, management, and workers communicate. It also requires the communication process between an organization and its partners, as well as the customers. In business communication, it is vital for an organization to develop a communication channel that is not only efficient and effective, but one that relays positive messages. Positive messages are crucial in developing good relationships with the employees, business partners, and customers. Research shows that we actually comprehend a positive statement 30 to 40 percent faster than we do a negative statement, our mind literally has to unscramble negative messages to determine the meaning (Simoneaux Stroud, 2014). There is a power in using positive messages, a strategy in building relationships and producing positive results. When using positive messaging it is beneficial to use the 5 S s, and goodwill messaging. The 5 S s are; selfless, specific, sincere, spontaneous, and short. This paper looks into the effects of positive messaging, with an emphasis on goodwill messages, and the 5 S s. Goodwill Messages In business, companies normally experience internal and external pressures that may keep them from making various goals. For instance, a company may fail to repay its loans on time, or fail to pay its workers as required. It is also common for companies to make late deliveries of products to the ... • 4. Humor And Alcoholism Essay Humor and Alcoholism Introduction When I think of alcoholism, the first thing that comes to my mind of course is alcohol and then an addiction to some extent that cannot be broken or a disease that may be hereditary that has been carried from generation to generation. I never would think to add humor in the equation when explain or trying to figure out exactly how it fits into the category of alcoholism. However, after some research I ve found that alcoholism is definitely considered to be an addiction when the person is suffering from depending on alcohol in order to get by (Farrand, 1896). From prior knowledge, I understand that when a person drinks alcohol it blurs vision, slurs language, and can even alter the thought process in other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are also other diseases that humor can be effected in certain areas of the brain, including Parkinson s Disease and even Autism. Because humor is considered to be an emotional state of mind, I m sure that the other diseases also share the same region of the brain, the frontal lobe (prefrontal lobe) may also be effected when a disease takes over the body because the brain keeps the whole the body functioning, no matter what the disease is. Earlier in the article I explained that there was a low percentage of Alcoholism in the human population, but it has risen over time because in most years getting alcohol has become easier over the years; especially when it comes to college campus and minors. There have been countless programs executed as well in order to reduce the incidents that have occurred and the programs also raise awareness when it comes to informing the general public about the negative consequences that may come from alcohol. Increased size of ventricles has been observed in MRI of a schizophrenic person. One possible explanation to enlarged ventricles could have occurred during neurodevelopment causing the illness to occur (book). However there is evidence that other diseases such as Alzheimer, have enlarged ventricles and therefore this could prove to us that the disease itself did not cause the ventricle enlargement but rather the genetic predisposition, resulting in the enlarged ventricles that could possibly cause schizophrenia or another disease . There is evidence that as the disease continues the brain will deteriorate further (Shenton, Dickey, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is involved with a person s movement, thoughts, wellbeing as well as their feelings of pleasure (Veaugue, 2007).According to the dopamine hypothesis, when high levels of dopamine are found in the mesolimbic and when low levels of dopamine found in the prefrontal cortex, symptoms of schizophrenia will occur. When the cortical pathway through the nucleus accumbens is disturbed, there will be an increase subcortical release of dopamine, which in turn causes the D2 receptor to be activated. This process will result in positive symptoms of schizophrenia forming. The reduction of the D1 receptor found in the prefrontal cortex together with the decrease of activity in the nucleus caudatus will cause negative symptoms of schizophrenia (dopamine). The dopamine hypothesis is the most accepted hypothesis, yet scientists are still unsure of why there is an excess of dopamine in the body (article 1?).Glutamate is another neurotransmitter that could possibly be a causing factor in schizophrenia. Glutamate helps with learning as well as the encoding of memory. A schizophrenic person will have a lower amount of Glutamate in their body. Dopamine as well as Halucinatnic drugs PCP block the glutamate receptor sites, lowering the amount of Glutamate in the body (Veague, 2007).Acetylcholine function is participates in the movement, automatic function learning and memory in the brain. Therefore when acetylcholine is deficient it will cause the persons memory and learning ability to be affected, this is a schizophrenic symptom (book).Serotonin s function is controlling mood, appetite and sleep. • 6. Esther Berdt Reed Behind Every Great Woman Stands a Great Nation What can women bring to the table that men can t? The world may seem to be run by men, but three women caught the eye of many people. Esther De Berdt Reed was a women who took matters into her own hands by creating a fund for the soldiers in the war. Even though she did not live a long life, she changed how people viewed women. Deborah Sampson fooled the men standing right next to her. She fought with her fellow brothers against the British and without them even knowing she was a woman. Though Abigail Adams did not physically do anything for the women of America, she used her her pen and paper to explain how she really felt about the titles people give women. She loved her home country, but she could not tolerate the way the British acted towards the Americans. She became a supporter of American Independence. Through the years Joseph s social status was rising, Esther saw it as an opportunity to make an impact in the war efforts. She decided to write Sentiments of an American Women . It was published in the newspaper to spread the word to get women to join her in her nationalistic organization, the Ladies Association of Philadelphia. The goal for the Ladies was to raise money to accumulate supplies for the soldiers in the war. Only three days after the Pennsylvania Gazette published Sentiments of an American Woman more than thirty women gathered to discuss the best way to aid the Soldiers. The group of ladies split up into groups and went from door to door trying to earn money. Many people contributed to the cause because they found it fascinating that there were women asking instead of men. Giving door to door, the society saw the men as doing work and women staying at home. Due to their hard work, in the end they were very successful. The Ladies collected more than $300,000 dollars. The money was used to purchase supplies like cloth, thread, and needles to sew clothes and other apparel for the soldiers. On behalf of the Ladies Association of Philadelphia, the men s morale was lifted and made it less difficult for the soldiers to fight for their country. Esther showed people that women could make a difference in the world. These women worked independently and without the need of men. • 7. Beach Boys Caroline For this week s listening journal, I listened to Caroline No by The Beach Boys. There are many characteristics of this piece that stood out to me, such as the relationship between the lyrics and the musical quality and the musical elements that set the tone of the music. At the exposition of Caroline No there is an eerie drum and cymbal introduction that has a sort of call and response relationship. The cymbals would play a short melody and the drum beat would follow, this exchange occurred a couple of times. This exchange between the cymbals and the drums made the piece seem melancholic and mysterious and sets the mood for the rest of the song. The quality of the voice was interesting because it was unlike most songs of The Beach Boys I have heard of before. Throughout the song, The Beach Boys have a slow and relaxing tempo that does not shift as the piece progresses. For the most part, the tempo remains steady and slow. This steady tempo is accompanied by lyrics that relate to the overall melancholic mood of the song. The song talks about a girl named Caroline that used to be a ... This is also present in the second verse between the words away and say. Furthermore, the last word of each line is sung with melisma. For instance, the word know is sung with several notes to one syllable. This musical element adds to the smooth and earthy timbre of The Beach Boys. • 8. Gender And Race Representation In Media Personal Reflection The concept of gender and race representation in media has reminded me that the representation of people of color is not visible. The push for people of color to act on certain stereotypes shows that the media wants them to be portrayed in a certain way. The media pushes white people into positive leading roles that make it difficult for people of color to gain opportunity. Media uses its power to dissociate themselves on their reasoning on why they do not cast people of color for roles. In their article, Gender, Race, and Media Representation , Dwight E. Brooks and Lisa P. Hebert states, Western industrialized societies are stratified by hierarchies of race, gender, and class that structure our social experience (Brooks Hebert 298) This hierarchy provides the placement of where people will be casted into media. • 9. Racial Diversity And The School System The discussion of integration in schools have multiple forces that continue to be examined today by race and class. Stratification in today s school systems are segregation in residential neighborhoods. Most attendance in public schools are determined largely by where students live. Predominantly white suburbs and poor minority neighborhoods both are grouped by income and race. This particular grouping can create school districts to be separated by race. Segregation in urban areas of North Carolina schools could be a concern, and the recent expansion of charter schools has brought up new fears with regard to the district s desegregation efforts. Does school choice impact racial diversity and the achievement gap in North Carolina schools? Residential segregation has been a large focal point in education policies since Brown v. Board of Education overturned the separate but equal act for blacks and whites in 1954. This helped create some of the first federal policies in creating integrated schools in America. The ruling in the Supreme Court Case Parents Involved in Community Schools v. Seattle School District No.1 of 2007, also limited the way that districts could use race to determine school assignment. Both rulings introduced the notion of parental choice of schools having the possibility to positively impact school integration. Choice programs of the 1950 s and 1960 s led to racial integration issues. During the 1970s through the 1990 s brought many new choice programs to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The reason is that a pool of minerals under just one individual s property, but usually under 10 to 20 sets of property and each set of property could be owned by 5 or more people. • 11. Busting Unions For Fighting Reform Policies Busting Unions for Fighting Reform Policies In the early chapters of Special Interest Terry Moe spends much of his energy in attacking the power of the teacher unions. He claims that teachers unions are the heart of the problem when it comes to organization and reform (Moe, 2011, p. 20). While Moe claims the NEA (National Education Association) and the AFT (American Federation of Teachers) have historically lobbied against many reform programs, including voucher programs, charter schools, and merit pay programs, there is also evidence where teachers unions have supported new reforms. They have introduced new charter schools and have based salaries on merit pay programs. Former NEA president Bob Chase delivered a speech in 1997 claiming that the NEA was on the forefront of education reform. He stated that the NEA invested 70 million dollars on reform initiatives and sponsored six charter schools across the country (Chase, 1997, p. 372). Educational policy makers should be in particular interest to these examples especially if they believe in the effectiveness of reform programs. If policy makers understand the thinking behind why the unions support or oppose reforms, better policies can be put in place. In addition, policy makers in partnership with the teachers unions can work hand in hand to successfully coordinate reforms in American education. Moe argues that the United States has struggled to meet the reform challenge over the past quarter century specifically in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Comparing Divergent And The Maze Runner My two novels, Divergent and The Maze Runner, have many similarities that I would like to discuss. Firstly, both novels focused on being thrust into a brand new world that the characters were not used to. Thomas(The Maze Runner protagonist)started off the book with him waking up inside of a cargo box, traveling upwards at an incredibly high speed, and with only the memory of his name. When Tris decided to join the Dauntless, she immediately had to adapt and change, from jumping from trains and buildings to fighting someone until submission or decommission. To add onto that, despite being both unfamiliar with their new lives, they were able to adapt fairly quickly with Tris being first in the second and third round of initiation, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thomas started from a person who was scared, confused, and curious, into the one who led them out of the maze and one of the most important Gladers. On the other hand, Tris was a quiet Abnegation girl who was struggling to fit into Dauntless. Eventually though she became one of the bravest people in the story, fending off multiple Dauntless soldiers and stopping the Erudite. There were also, quite obviously, going through very different situations. While, Tris had to fight her way to the top ten, hide her Divergence, and save an entire faction, Thomas was trying to figure out what his flashbacks meant, how he could get out of the maze, and why he had so much responsibility. Based on all of this information, I believe that dystopian fiction really seems to focus on themes of sacrifice, friendship, and most important of all, overthrowing the system . For example, another dystopian fiction novel that has all three of these themes is The Hunger Games. In the Hunger Games, Katniss, the protagonist, risks her life for her sister s wellbeing, makes alliances with other tributes and rebels, and attempts to overthrow the Capitol. The main plot point of Divergent was to stop the Erudite, the most power hungry of all five factions. Finally, Thomas stops WICKED, a group of scientists that experimented on the Gladers. • 13. Righteousness In The Canterbury Tales In The General Prologue to the Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer uses the value of righteousness to clearly distinguish between the pilgrims the exceptional, the decent and the terrible. The goodness of the pilgrims is determined, by Chaucer, based on his or her ability to adhere to their own superior moral standards. Some pilgrims, like the Parson and the Plowman, are highly praised by Chaucer for their righteous qualities. Some on the other hand like the Summoner and Pardoner, are chastised for their dishonorable ways of living. Chaucer is sometimes discreet in giving praise and sometimes gives the praise outright. The ones Chaucer scolds are the ones who have unjust motives behind all of their actions and never think twice about it. Though Chaucer values righteousness, being righteous today won t get anyone far. The definition of right or wrong is now highly debated and the wrong thing is very easy to do behind the screen of technology. • 14. Google Is Not A Conventional Company As Sergey and I wrote in the original founders letter 11 years ago, Google is not a conventional company. We do not intend to become one. As part of that, we also said that you could expect us to make smaller bets in areas that might seem very speculative or even strange when compared to our current businesses. From the start, we ve always strived to do more, and to do important and meaningful things with the resources we have. We did a lot of things that seemed crazy at the time. Many of those crazy things now have over a billion users, like Google Maps, YouTube, Chrome, and Android. And we haven t stopped there. We are still trying to do things other people think are crazy but we are super excited about. We ve long believed that over time companies tend to get comfortable doing the same thing, just making incremental changes. But in the technology industry, where revolutionary ideas drive the next big growth areas, you need to be a bit uncomfortable to stay relevant. Our company is operating well today, but we think we can make it cleaner and more accountable. So we are creating a new company, called Alphabet. I am really excited to be running Alphabet as CEO with help from my capable partner, Sergey, as President. What is Alphabet? Alphabet is mostly a collection of companies. The largest of which, of course, is Google. This newer Google is a bit slimmed down, with the companies that are pretty far afield of our main internet products contained in Alphabet ... • 15. Analysis Of Alexander IIi The Great King Of Macedonia And... Success without honor is an unseasoned dish; it will satisfy your hunger, but it won t taste good. ~Joe Paterno. Alexander III the Great, King of Macedonia and conqueror of the Persian Empire is considered to be one of the best military geniuses of all times. He was inspiration for conquerors to come such as Hannibal, Napoleon, and Pompey along side Caesar. Alexander was born in 356 BC in Pella, the ancient capital of Macedonia.1 Alexander s childhood had a major impact on his later life and his military strive. At a young age Alexander watched his father turn Macedonia into a mass military power. His father won many great battles all throughout the Balkans. When he was just twelve years old, he showed off his horse riding skills to his father and many others. He tamed a Bucephalus, a rowdy steed. Bucephalus was supposedly unable to be ridden, and all who had tried to tame it had their flesh devoured . When he was 13, his father Philip hired philosopher Aristotle to be his teacher. For three years Alexander learned about science, medicine, and philosophy. In 340 BC, when Alexander was only 16 years old, Phillip invaded Trace and left Alexander in charge of Macedonia. While he was in power a Thracian tribe posed a threat, and Alexander constructed an army and lead them against the rebels. Not only were the Thracian rebels defeated, but also Alexander captured their stronghold and named it Alexandropolis after himself.1 Once Alexander turned 18 his father made him one ... When we send our children to school, they are segregated based on the letter D (diversity, disabled, dysfunction), showing the young that not all children can enjoy the same educational opportunities that they are provided in schools. This is due to a controversial topic among teachers and parents known as inclusion. It s time we put an end to this separation and bring inclusive classrooms to all schools. But imagine the parents of the children who are not given the same educational opportunities, parents of disabled students understand better than anyone, the fears, and struggles that come into teaching their children. • 17. The Theory Of American Exceptionalism Mandisa Nickerson POL 2001 May 20, 2015 Final Paper: Question 2 The theory of American Exceptionalism has been around for decades and outlines what makes the United States so unique based on our governmental structure and our willingness to defend accordingly. Recently, there have multiple claims that America is not the superpower it once was based on its unwillingness to become involved in many foreign affairs. Many believe that instead of America taking care of their responsibilities as the number one democratic superpower, they are admitting defeat by not tackling these international issues. There have also been multiple attacks on America s model of democracy and how even a democracy as strong and stable as ours has encountered dilemmas amongst its economic, political and cultural sectors. American power is being put into question and the idea of globalization either positively or negatively affecting this power is up for debate. Based on Americas past disputes pertaining involvement in international relations, Americas role in world affairs should continue to be less active. Getting involved will eventually lead to weakening of democratic principles thus ending our exceptionalist nature and moving us into declination. America s form of democracy is one of the most important reasons why the United States remains the top superpower. Democracy is defined as a government by the people in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

School lunch is meant to provide kids the energy to push through the rest of the day and continue to work hard mentally. School lunch is meant to fill a kid s empty stomach if they missed breakfast or are just hungry. Kids are always advised to eat healthy and get all of their necessary nutrients everyday. You may need to just put a little salt on something, they ll eat it (Mecia 1). I agree with that statement so much because kids nowadays are likely to eat something sugary and salty rather than something with less favor, like vegetables. I think this is a major problem in school lunches, especially with all the the repetitive food choices and its nutrition values. You can t force picky eaters to consume food they find unappealing (Mecia 1). I think a possible solution to helping kids to eat school lunches is to provide balanced foods to them with maybe a little salt to encourage them to eat it. For everyone, there is always a risk in what they eat. For kids, it s what is in their school lunches. There has been many incidents in the past with school lunches. In 1996, bacteria in spaghetti served at five schools in Sacramento, California, made 400 children sick (Abc News 1). In 1998, 1,200 students in seven states became ill after eating burritos from a plant in Chicago (Abc News 1). Those infected kids had no idea what they were being served at their own school. This is something most kids and even parents do not think about. It can all be very concerning because no one is questioning what is actually in the school lunches. Aayushi Shah shah.947 ID#:200404635 Title: Study of Evolution in Mitochondria through different species of plants and Animals. ID#:04635 Introduction: The mitochondria is a double membrane organelle that is found in all eukaryotic organisms. There is some evidence that proves some eukaryotes lack mitochondria, but there is no true evidence about complete lack of mitochondria in the organisms. Mitochondria is known as a power house of the living body cell. They store energy in the cell and release it as needed. Every structure in Mitochondria have their own specific roles which helps in storing energy (See Figure 1 for details). Evidence shows that mitochondria evolved from primitive bacteria. Is it really evolved from primary bacteria or were they the new adaptation in the plant and animal body? In this paper we are going to see how Mitochondrion have been evolved in different species and what methods have been used to prove that evolution. There is still debate between scientists about whether mitochondrion really evolved from bacteria or if it was present in the cells before bacteria were present. Yung et al. [1] says that Mitochondria s cytochromes c (which is a mitochondrial intermembrane protein that is loosely attached to the inner membrane of mitochondrial membrane) is relatively close to the bacterial medium subunit in sequence of cytochrome. While some people may argue that parental expectations may be too much pressure for offspring, they usually keep children s behavior rational, have an impact on their children and their future, and goals are usually a source of motivation to do better. First, the reason parental expectation is set in place, to begin with, is to regulate children and their actions. Second of all, having certain achievements to meet has a significant impact on children and their future. Lastly, the need to meet accomplishments set forth by the head(s) of the family serve as a way to improve on one s self for children. For these reasons, parental expectations should be made. Tanks were first used in combat in September of 1916 by the British ( The WW1 Tank ). When tanks were first created they were basically an armored car with a track instead of tires for easier off road use. The first prototypes of tanks were very flawed and would take a lot of improvements to become what they are today. They were not well adapted to moving over uneven muddy battle fields so the tanks were easily bogged down by mud and sometimes got completely stuck. Tanks were not only effective by their protective properties but also had a scare factor towards the beginning of the war since they were new and the German army had not experienced them in battle before. View slits were one of the main problems with the first tanks. For one they were too small to be able to effectively see anything out of them while the tank was moving. And the slits were targets for enemy gunshot. The name tank came from the British, they shipped the parts for tanks in crates marked tanks to try and disguise what was ... Pollock most often stood over the work slinging paint with sticks, trowels, or knives. This would later earn him the name, Jack the Dripper (Lehrer). He would also embed things onto his painting surface, such as sand, broken glass, nails, pebbles, string, and other foreign matter. This gave it texture and depth. He had an exceptional interest in sand paintings, as he had studied about the Southwest Indians that made sand paintings as a ritual to heal an unhealthy or diseased person. The Mental Capacity Act 2005 Answer: Introduction: The Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA 2005) introduced a statutory framework for advance decision making in England and Wales building upon the common law recognition of advance decisions. Academics considered that a bias may operate against upholding advance decisions refusing life sustaining treatment 1. It s commonly felt that judges usually give decisions favouring preservation of life and making advance decisions invalid on various grounds. Recent case law indicates that a high level of specificity is required for advance refusals of life sustaining treatment and, in some capacity must be demonstrated at the time of making the decision. This essay will argue the legal back ground of the advance decisions and relevant case law. There are suggestions that advance care planning (ACP) instead of advance decisions (ADRT) may be more helpful when it comes to the practice of law on ground 2.
