Media Impact On Entertainment
The media is one of the biggest focal points of contemporary America s daily life and America is both
blind and naive when it comes to media, but not in the sense that Americans don t know how to
understand media, but separates itself from the reality of this fictitious medium. In Bill Moyers Free
Speech For Sale, proof arises that media controls more than what most people think. Even though
there is proof of media tampering and being overall very deceitful, most Americans decide to detach
themselves from the reality of the situation. But entertainment isn t the only thing that s being
manipulated to conform to the ideal message: actors and other public presences are filtered and this is
seen in Marshall Mcluhan s Amusing Ourselves To Death. Even though media is very dishonorable, it
still is astonishing because of the advancements in technology that is seen in the media today.
Media has become the ruler of our entertainment. The dictionary describes media as the system and
organizations of communication through which information is spread to a large number of people
(Webster). But media is so much more than that. Now, it s a type of communication that focuses on
bringing to people what really matters... Kylie Jenner s pregnancy and the imprisonment of Miles
Teller. Now this might be important to the celebrities that are actually experiencing it, but does it
really matter to you? Well, the big media corporations think you should care so they re going to make
you care. That s

Circle of Gold Essay
Earthly things can be very expensive, but love from a family is priceless, it is expressed in the
following passage. By the end of the last hundred pages I ve read (103 201) in Candy Dawson Boyd s
Circle of Gold, Mattie finally realizes this, as does the readers. Mattie gives her mom a golden pin for
mother s day, which she goes by any means to get, just to bring her family back together.
Mattie was a smart A student from Brooklyn, New York. Her only brother and twin brother Matthew is
an artist that likes to draw and paint. She lives with her mom and brother, she used to live with her dad
but he is deceased. One day, on his way from work some drunk drives hit his car and killed him. That
day changed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I t Mattie s best friend Toni Douglas, helps her through her problems a lot.
In her 220 page novel, first published in 1984, Boyd takes us on a journey and shows us how a young
girl with a hard life must step it up to keep her family together, by any means necessary. On it we see
at certain points young Mattie experiencing difficult times, both personal and financial. Under these
pressures, she gives into her darker side and allows and is even pushed to steal. Mattie knows that
mother s day is coming up, and for mother s day she wants to get her mom something really nice. So
one day her and Toni go to the mall, then they walk into this jewelry store and there it was, so
precious, a golden pin with a single moon pearl in the middle of it. She concluded that it would the
perfect Mother s Day gift, but only it she could afford it she didn t have a dime. Later that night in her
bed she thought to herself, I need to get that pin, but how will I get it? Then she figured that she would
just have to take it. The next day before school she told Toni that today after school she was going to
go to the mall and take the pin. Toni tried to talk her out of it but her mind was already set, she was
going to take the pin. So that day after school Mattie went to the mall and she went into the jewelry
store to where the pin was being kept. There was one thing she didn t know, and that was that her
friends Toni contacted her brother and told him was she was going to do and that he

My Experience At The School Nurse
After lunch I knew something was off. I should have known better I thought to myself. The teacher
was talking, but I was not listening. The jolting pain shooting in my right wrist was currently grabbing
my attention. I looked down, my wrist was slightly swollen and tinted red forming fresh bruises. At
first the pain was tolerable, but any minor twist or turn affected the pain level immensely. Unprepared
for the new aching in my wrist, immediate shouts of agony followed. My teacher, Mrs. Stephenson,
immediately asked, What s wrong? Looking up, my face was turning red, I didn t know what to say. I
knew the incident was foolish and could have been completely avoided. My lips were sealed from
embarrassment. I didn t say a word. Despite the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today I wasn t very hungry. I did not want to eat my sandwich. After eating my yogurt, chips, and
brownie I planned how to sneak past Ms. Noriega to dispose of my sandwich. Until Are you going to
eat that? Matt asked. Replying, No, you can have it, I realized he saw that I was going to throw it
away and offered to eat it instead. I was relieved because Ms. Noriega didn t seem to move, she was
like an anchored boat confined to the area of the trash can. Not to mention she had eyes like a hawk.
Stepping foot onto the grass beyond the fence felt like a whole new world. Leaving behind the boring
lunch patio I entered the backyard of the school. It was divided into three parts: the tennis courts, a
field in the center shaded by three large trees, and a playground underneath more trees. Fifth grade
was all about the playground. Everyone always rushed to their favorite playground spot. Christina,
Cayman and I always sat on top of the hang glider, but today we were feeling extra adventurous. We
were always hanging off the glider in ways no one is supposed to but today we were not going to be
hanging instead jumping. Let s have a competition, Christina said, Everyone must jump from the top
of this hang glider and grab the branch above. Cayman and I looked above to see a dangling tree
branch about 4 feet out of reach if we were standing on top of the hang glider. We didn t think it could
be done.
You re crazy, we exclaimed! We hopped down only to see

The Politics and Economics of FDA Drug Approval Essay
The Politics and Economics of FDA Drug Approval
The United Sates Food and Drug Administration has been protecting American consumers for around
70 years. The FDA assures the safety drugs, medical devices, chemicals, cosmetics, foods and
additives by evaluating products for approval. Controversy has recently been surrounding the FDA s
drug approval process, due to a general trend to get pharmaceuticals on the market more quickly. The
FDA has been under pressure from congress and the public to speed approval, but pharmaceutical
companies, who benefit more than anyone form accelerated drug approval, have also been applying
pressure to the FDA through congress. The speeding of the approval process helps patients with
incurable illnesses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Radiation Control for Health and Safety Act guarantees consumers protection from excess
radiation in certain devices. Lastly, The Public Health Service Act expanded the FDA s authority to
cover serums and vaccines and also justified the inspections of restaurants (Food and Drug
Administration [Britannica]). The FDA is adjusting to a switch in leader ship since Jane Heney,
previously the FDA s deputy commissioner of operations, was nominated in June 1998. Heney, the
first woman to head the FDA, has a packed resume that includes a vice presidency of the University of
New Mexico and a specialization in cancer research. Her strategy for the future of the FDA includes
the enforcement of new federal laws to modernize the FDA and addressing concerns about drug safety
and approval speed, as well as controlling food contamination (Davis 5D). The FDA requires
pharmaceutical companies to conduct years of research on their drugs before they begin the actual
process approval. Drug companies submit test results to the FDA to be reviewed by their scientists; the
FDA actually does no preliminary research on the drugs. In order to be approved, the companies must
prove to the FDA that each drug is safe and effective and that the benefits of the drug must outweigh
its side effects. The FDA has 800 to 900 employees involved in reviewing drugs before they get to the
market. After a drug is approved, the FDA researches by collecting and analyzing thousands of reports

Marxism, And The Data-Free Man
In the Introduction of this text, Berger refers to the Data Man, and the Data Free Man. The Data man
is just as explained, he is a character who is representing researchers who base their research on
evidence such as statistics. Data Free man on the other hand bases his finding more in theories that
sound nice, but don t always give the best outcomes, such as Marxism. In a more basic way, I see
these two heroes as the Optimist and the Realist. The Data Free Man wants to figure out in if his
theory will work, so he backs it up with more theories. On the other hand, Data Man is getting hard
facts to prove his case. Another way that I am seeing these two are on two sides of politics. The
Republicans are trying to fix things that have numbers,

The New York Times By Richard Taruskin
Composers have been writing nationalistic works for years but not many people know that some
composers are using nationalistic techniques for a completely different reason. In an article in the New
York Times written by Richard Taruskin entitled Nationalism: Colonialism in Disguise , Taruskin
explains how musicians these days are using nationalism, strong patriotic feelings toward ones
country, as a disguise for colonialism in order to be recognized as a well known composer such as
Beethoven or Brahms. One American composer, Louis Moreau Gottschalk, can also be seen as
somebody who uses nationalism in order to disguise his colonialist views. In this paper, I hope to
prove how Gottschalk s Bamboula is really colonialism in disguise and ... Show more content on

These higher forms of art refer to German composers such as Bach, Beethoven, Brahms who were
always considered some of the top composers to musicologists all over the world. Here, Taruskin tries
to explains to the readers that Dvorak didn t compose his New World Symphony to be a purely
American piece; he composed it piece to promote German musical colonialism! In order to fully
understand Bamboula and how Gottschalk used nationalism to disguise his colonialist views, it is
important to know a little bit about Gottschalk s history. Louis Moreau Gottschalk, 1829 1869, was an
American pianist and composer born in New Orleans to a Jewish father and a French mother. He was
one of the most significant 19th century American musicians and wrote music that influenced the rise
of ragtime (Grove Music dictionary). According to Burkholder, Gottschalk was the first American
composer wth an international reputation (Burkholder, 2014). At age 5, Gottschalk studied piano and
organ and at age 12 he went to Paris for more training. He also toured France, Switzerland, and Spain
in 1845 52 and Chopin even named him the king of pianists when he heard Gottschalk play at one of
his concerts. Gottschalk s pieces were mainly based off of tunes and rhythms from his mother s
Caribbean heritage. This was probably the case because

The Four Concepts Of Symbolic Interactionism
Symbolic interactions are a major part of how we socialize with others. It happens every day without
us even realizing it. There are many concepts that assist in the formation of symbolic interactions, but
to better understand them, we need to apply them to social settings. The four concepts of social
interactionism theory I chose to observe at the social settings of my choosing were; definition of
situation, symbols, front regions, and role playing. These concepts often interrelate as they all are a
part of each other. To better understand these concepts, they were applied to two different social
settings which were the bar and mass at the Catholic church. The concepts will be defined and
reviewed in the order above.
When we refer to definition of situation, we are referring to what the entrance of the social setting
encompasses. We look at what are the norms, the rules, and what is acceptable in that setting. For
example, when I was entering the bar, there were people outside smoking. To be able to walk through
the front doors, there was a man who one had to give an ID to so he could check the age to allow the
person to get in. When I walked through the doors, there were people sitting at tables in groups of
three to five people on the left who would look to see who was entering the bar. On the right side of
the bar, there were four people playing foosball and two people at each pool table. As I continued to
the back, there were people sitting at the bar visiting.

Comparing Hughes And Tennyson s The Charge Of The Light...
1) It is true that the man of 20th century described by Wolfe is different from the man from Jane Eyre.
Wolfe present at us 3 man from the 20th century: Peter Walsh, Richard and Septimus. First, Peter
Walsh is a middle aged man who appeared to have wasted his life by accomplishing nothing and not
having the same social class position as Hugh or Richard. He has no wife, but an affair with a younger
woman than him in India. He is still in love with Clarissa, and does not understand why Clarissa
married Richard instead of him. He does not take conscious of his own flaw which are his indigence
and his fixation. Peter Walsh is a man of 20th century who is kind of a lone wolf and, who are trying

In Tennyson s poem The Charge of the Light Brigade, tells about the charge on the English army to go
recuperate weaponry that their adversary stole, so they charge into valley of Death knowing they could
die due to fact they do not have weapons. The captain make an order can no one dare to make a reply ,
to reason why , but to die and to die. When we read the first line, a reasonable comment should be that
those soldiers are foolish to go to war even though they know that they will fail or rather die.
However, for Tennyson it is not the case, this charge is patriotic and of common sense when their
glory fade? He even congratulates them for their act Honour the light Brigade. We thus see for
Tennyson die for one country, whether the circumstances, is a good thing to do. In addition, for
Kipling s poem If who is more sentimental pass through the advice of father to his son and assumption
in which one is required to take action in honor of the country. He clearly incites Englishmen to enlist
to the army to battle for England. Notwithstanding, the element which is peculiar is that he clearly
incites the English to go colonize and reign on India. Yours is the Earth and everything that s in it.
Contrary to other works of Kipling as Wee Willie Winkee and The One Who Will Be King wherein he
seemed to sympathize and want peace to the Indians, in If we no longer see this noble wish but the
domination. In McCrae s poem In Flanders Field, appears to states two point of view. One Is that
enemy went on a village and kill people, so he incites the people on village to go revenge them by
being a soldier. Hence, he had the same idea as Kipling and Tennyson to incite people fight for tee
country. Second, perspective conversely to the former poem hitherto is that in which way the people in
the village can avenge

Women and Sexuality in Aphra Behn s Poems Essay
Women and Sexuality in Aphra Behn s Poems
All women together ought to let flowers fall upon the tomb of AphraBehn, . .
. for it was she who earned them the right to speak their minds. (Woolf 91)
Born in 1640, AphraBehn broke gender stereotypes when she undertook a thrilling
(if unrewarded) life as a spy for the Crown, but it was her scandalous career as
an author which truly achieved many firsts for women. She was the first woman to
supporthereself financially by solely relying on the profession of writing, and
many readers argue that Oroonoko her passionate tale about the institution of
slavery was the first English novel. She was certainly one of the first female

Likewise pursued, in The Disappointment, Behn s young
virginal maiden takes her sexual destiny into her own hands (literally), leaving
her would be lover impotent, an outcast from what used to be his realm of power.
Thus in The Willing Mistress and The Disappointment, Behn confers power to
women by creating an environment of sexual freedom in which female sexuality is
natural, strong, comfortable, and driven by pure desire.
In the Middle Ages, if a woman wanted to express herself in writing, she was
limited to expressions of religious faith, as were Julian of Norwich and Margery
Kempe. Any rapture described in the literature of this period was usually
reserved for Christ, prompted by the ecstatic realization of an eternal life. In
the 16th and 17th centuries, women writers were still largely limited in how
they were permitted to express themselves. While writing about love became more
socially acceptable, most examples still presented a romanticized perspective in
which passion was inextricably linked to emotional involvement. There are
glimpses of sexuality, such as when Anne Bradstreet in A Letter to Her Husband,
Absent Upon Public Employment refers to her children as those fruits which
through [her husband s] heat I bore and yearns for him to return and warm her
chilled limbs (Lines 14; 11). However, even this

Greek Influence On Italy
Italy is a nation that is present in southern Europe on the Mediterranean Sea. It is also known for its
cultural heritage and for its most famous architectural achievements. However, Italy is also considered
by many historians as one of the most sly and mysterious country in World War I. Many would
remember major powers such as Great Britain, Germany, and Russia, however, these small countries
contribute to major battles and events in history. Moreover, Italy infamously went from being a neutral
country to being a victim of war. Likewise, Italy has been in the same situation as Belgium in which
they follow a policy of neutrality but in the end are influenced by other countries to join the war. Italy

Whether in times of Renaissance or when the Roman Empire began to flourish, Italy had remained
loyal to their culture. The culture of italy had originated from Greece which, no one had outdone them
until the reign of the Roman Empire. The culture of Greece had such a major impact that it can be
seen centuries later. Primarily, this can be authenticated as seen in the religion aspect in World War I.
Italy s main religion is catholicism which comprised ¾ of the population while the ¼ of the people
were cast out and were forgotten. The religion of Catholicism has been present since ancient times and
is still present today. Furthermore, Italy s culture was so great and extraordinary because their culture
was very unique unlike any other nation. As a result, many civilizations and nations had been greatly
influenced almost to the point of assimilation. Such unique aspects can be observed in their art. Artists
like Leonardo Da Vinci, Van Gogh, Raphael, and Michelangelo are one of the many influential artists
in the world. Their famous paintings such as the Mona Lisa, The Scream, Starry Night, and The
Creation of Adam have been so successful that they are the most recognizable pieces of art today.
Furthermore, artists of italy have been known to be very adroit at creating fascinating sculptures like
The Statue of David and The Madonna of Humility. However, music and drama had the same degree
of influence just as art had on its people and other nations. Music has been known to play a major role
in society since the beginning of the Middle Ages. For example, Andrea Amati who had lived from the
ages of 1500 until 1577, laid the basis of violin making. The art of drama had originated in Greece but
it was culturally diffused into the empire of Rome. It s main

Investigating into Industry Attractiveness for Unilever Food Solutions

Porter s Five Forces
Porter s five forces model is used to assess the Industry in which UFS operated in. With this analysis,

The Specialization Of A Business Model Essay
The Specialization Business
Like the other models the specialization business model can be conflated with freelancers, solution
based businesses, and also first to market models. Like the solution based model, the specialization
model can be scaled up or built with the purpose of being sold. This kind of business model is a step
beyond the solution idea and combines the freelancer and the solution provider. One could even argue
that this is a matured version of the solution business. Whether the specialization business focuses on
a good or a service, the specialization model typically has extremely proprietary knowledge and
techniques which cannot be easily replicated by competing firms. Often, patents and complex legal
barriers to entry are established to protect the specialist s natural advantages. Elements of the
freelance, solution, debt, and first to market business models are present in specialization models, but I
classify this as a unique model of its own because the owners must protect their secrets yet clone
themselves to scale up. There are countless legacy businesses built on industry secrets, and proprietary
knowledge. McDonalds, Chick Fil A, and Kentucky Fried Chicken were all founded on very
specialized formulas and techniques that even to this day are exceptionally protected. Completely
opposite firms like DutchBoy paint, and computer platform firms like Oracle can also be considered
specialization businesses and also have their own secrets to

Memorable Moments in America in Flags of Our Fathers by...
Flags of Our Fathers by James Bradley is the chronicle of one of the most memorable moments in
America s military history. James Bradley achieves to capture in this book, moments of sadness,
sorrow, majesty, and immortality of these six boys that raised the flag at Iwo Jima. The picture that
immortalized that moment tells a story that represents all men that survived and died for America in
that island. James Bradley s quest for answers, for knowledge and for keeping the honor of these man
alive, makes this book a true American History testimony. It was only the replacement of a flag but it
became the most famous picture in military history. James Bradley s mission to bring these boys back
to life, and forever keep them in the country s memory makes this book an entertaining and horrifying
war tale. The flag raisers as they were called, were just six boys dreaming with the glory of war and
the honor of combat. Unfortunately none of that was found in 1945 when they landed in the sulfur

for thirty five days against a ghost enemy.
The boys made heroes were, John Doc Bradley, Rene Gagnon, Harlon Block, Franklin Sousley, Mike

not want to talk about Iwo Jima, the boys, the war or the raising of the flag. Much less of the circus

Reinstating the Military Draft Essay
When you enjoy the freedoms you have living in the United States, you can thank those men and
women who serve in the armed forces. But in recent years, our armed forces have seen a decline in
enlistments, which has reignited and old debate. Should we reinstate the Military Draft? This one
question has sparked a debate nationwide, between friends, family, and even perfect strangers.
Reinstating the draft is just one way to ensure people can continue to enjoy those freedoms the armed
forces have fought for over the years. With all the controversy surrounding mandatory military
service, past and recent incidents have shown a greater need to protect ourselves from those who wish
to do us harm. Continued decline in enlistment, and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is not the truth at all. Mandatory service will provide those who serve many different types of
opportunities. Each man and woman, who serves in the military, no matter what branch, has the
opportunity to choose their field of work, or receive advanced training in an area they wish to pursue
in the civilian world after their enlistment. Furthermore, they may even be able to choose which state
they would live in while serving in the armed forces. This does not sound like slavery or even forced
slavery, this sounds more like an opportunity to receive training and other necessary qualities
companies and organizations are looking for in the civilian workforce. When looking at the whole
picture, and deciding the pro s and con s of the military draft I have one final are for you to look at.
Currently our armed forces are voluntary and do not accurately represent the American population.
With the ideal draft system in place, it will allow for individuals from all aspects of society to
represent and provide their service to our country. Along with proper representation, the military cost
would be lowered. Although the armed forces would have to pay individuals more and the additional
cost of food, equipment, and other essential needs would go up the, the cost of recruiting, advertising
and additional benefits to lure persons into the recruiting

Modern Day Color And Sound Motion Pictures
The desire for a sense of motion, action, and narrative (cinema s roots) stretch all the way back to
prehistory with cave drawings... In fact, the entire history of human accomplishment in the visual arts
seems to reveal a deep seated desire to represent time, space, and action visually and as vividly as
possible . (Lewis 5) Throughout history, people have exhibited a need to be entertained and a need for
hope or something to look forward to. Without anything to live for, something to strive for, life can
prove to be meaningless. From the production of cave drawings to the creation of modern day color
and sound motion pictures, story telling has always been a part of human existence. A look at the
history of the development of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The invention of moving pictures began in 1875 in California when Leland Stanford, the governor of
California, got into a disagreement with a rival gambler about whether or not all four hooves of a
horse are ever off the ground at the same time. To get to the bottom of this argument, Stanford hired
Eadweard Muybridge, a British born entrepreneur and renowned photographer to set up a row of
cameras along a racetrack and capture the stages of the horses gallop with timed exposures. (Lewis 8)
This technique, known as the battery of camera technique, brought photography leaps and bonds
closer to cinema. After proving that all four hooves of a horse are indeed off the ground at the same
time, Muybridge took his series photographs on the road where he not only exhibited his work but
also talked about the technology that produced it. It was at one of these shows that Thomas Edison
met with Muybridge and became interested in producing a more sophisticated simulation of
movement on film than Muybridge s series photographs could ever have produced... He had plans to
develop a system that might sync serial images with recorded sound played back on the Edison
phonograph . (Lewis 9). After meeting with Muybridge, Edison enlisted photographer William
Kennedy Laurie Dickson to help him take technology one step further and create a camera that could
take a sequence of pictures with a single load

The Reentry Policy Brief Provides
Executive Summary
The Reentry policy brief provides input to the Task Force set up by Florida Governor Rick Scott to
reduce the number of incarcerated juveniles and avoid increasing the already wide racial disparities of
the incarcerated population of juveniles. Most reentry facilities in Florida are run by reentry programs
that were expanded from Transition from Prison to Community (TPC) and Transition from Jail to
Community (TJC) models. Yet these programs appear to not have fully addressed recidivism among
juveniles and are also not tailored to lower the widening racial disparities among the incarcerated
juvenile population. Better evidence based reentry practices are needed to ensure that these programs
are not only effective in discontinuing the cycle of recidivism but also address the disproportionate
minority contact. A growing body of research demonstrates that comprehensive multi dimensional
reentry frameworks increase the chances of reentry programs stopping the cycle of crime among
Florida s juvenile offenders. A comprehensive multi dimensional reentry program refers to a
standardized program that is implemented statewide and which incorporates evidence based practices
such as assessment of needs and risks, individual case planning, and cognitive behavioral
interventions.
Introduction
Criminal justice statistics released by the Annie E. Casey Foundation in 2013 indicated that
incarceration numbers for youths in the State of Florida dropped by 32 percent between

A Comparison For Variable Cost And Absorption Costing
I have attached an analysis for your review. This analysis reflects a comparison for Variable Cost and
Absorption costing using
Sales: 60,000 units
Production: 80,000 units
Ending Inventory: 20,000 units
Based on these analyses I have made several recommendations along with pros and cons to aid in the
decision making process.
I recommend that we use absorption costing over variable costing. Absorption costing is a method
where ...fixed manufacturing costs are inventoriable costs (Datar, et al, 2009). That is, inventory
absorbs all manufacturing costs. In the absorption metho there does not need to be a distinction
between fixe and variable costs.
Per the analyses performed on the attached spreadsheets one can see that the ... Show more content on

We should experience some of the following positives after implementing JIT:
Supply Chain Management: The JIT inventory model may assist in being more efficient in the way we
handle supply chains and use our parts to assemble products. We can provide lower costs throughout
the manufacturing process; which can be passed on to our customers. With our lower costs, we could
produce a more affordable product for our customers and thereby help to stay ahead of our
competitors.
Reduction of Waste: By maintaining our current method we are housing products that go unused
and/or become obsolete. This causes us to sell product at a reduced price often less than cost or we
must dump the product with no money gained at all. The JIT inventory model should help to address
this situation and by housing fewer products in the warehouses we could address our customer needs
quicker and be open to customized orders.
Reduction in Warehouse Costs: It can be costly to keep excess inventory on hand. By moving to JIT
we may be able to reduce the number of warehouses we currently have as well as eliminate excess
storage.
Improved Customer Relations: Adopting the JIT model will allow for better servicing of our
customers. Having greater control of the manufacturing process will make it easier to respond to our
customers needs and any changes they may have or require.
While I have high lited the positives above we must also consider possible negative aspects.

Profile Of A Terrorist Analysis
UNDERSTANDING TERRORISM In the article Profile of a Terrorist by Cindy Combs, the author
maps out and discusses the different causes of terrorism committed by people. Understanding and
determining what drives people to terrorism is no easy task. Why do people choose to commit acts of
terrorism? Why do people choose to become rebellious and wreak havoc on so many innocent
civilians? Combs discusses the different types of terrorists as suggested by Frederick Hacker who was
a Vienna born psychiatrist and psychoanalyst and expert on aggression and terrorism. Hacker breaks
down the different types of terrorist in three different categories, of those including crazies, criminals,
and crusaders. Hacker offers loose descriptions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Acts of terrorism such as hostage taking, hi jacking, bombing, and mass killings could leave countless

Rhetorical Devices In Dover Beach
The poem Dover Beach is one that carries many deep themes that are exemplified through the use of
rhetorical devices. There is one theme, however, that stands out more that the rest and that is man and
the natural world. With the use of two specific rhetorical devices, the poem gains qualities that would
be sorely missed without them. The use of epithets throughout the poem allows the reader to grasp
what each of the described words is meant to convey. Symbolism in Dover Beach expands the
meaning of the poem as it provides the reader with a secondary vision to the connections made
between the lines. The relationship between man and nature is vital to the poem. With the use of
rhetorical devices, the reader is able to truly understand

Who Is The Greek Beast Cerberus The Protector Of Capitalism
We live in a world controlled by an invisible yet very present force that shapes the way we live our
daily lives. With industry as its host and technology as the blood being pumped into its heart, it is a
force powerful enough to bend politics to fit its needs. Capitalism; a method of industry where
production and distribution are privately or corporately owned, its operation grows through profits,
exploitation of labor, and extinguishing competition. During the Industrial Revolution technology was
on the global stage. Factories and machines are built in existing cities producing and distributing mass
goods on a global scale. Over time this fast production of goods would replace the old agricultural
economy to a modern urban economy. Today the revolution is praised for creating a global trade
market while surging us into a world of technology. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is evident today in New York City, where gentrification is forcing homeowners and local
businesses out of their spaces for incoming international buyers and corporations. Powerfully
connected cities such as New York attract major industries because of their trade ports, financial
services, etc. Dense cities seize this opportunity by using prime locations, newly renovated spaces,
and increased rent to get the most bang for their buck. While invisible actors of major corporations
continue to exploit labor and extinguish competition religiously for profit, technology embodies
Cerberus; the protector of capitalism. The greek beast Cerberus is known for protecting the realm of
Hades from intruders. In the similar sense technology is constantly being advanced and innovated to
make production more efficient and cheap, protecting capitalist wealth from the middle/lower class.

to bend political decisions, are we really

Male And Female Relationships In Prison
It is nothing new that relationships occur within the prisons. This includes male and females.
However, the article we read stated that male and female relationships are quite different. For males,
these relationships are geared with control and violence, as the females it s quite the opposite.
I think that guards should be allowed to encourage familial relationships but not sexual relationships.
I m sure that trying to stop family type relationship would provide quite difficult in the first place.
Having this kind of structure in prison could be beneficial to those that have never experienced it and
would also help some in the rehabilitation process. Sexual relationships in jail would not do any
justice towards rehabilitation but would

Advice For Young Artists By Patti Smith
Journal #1 Advice for Young Artists
Patti Smith was born in Chicago, Illinois, but was raised in New Jersey. She currently resides in New
York City, which is also where she made her name working as a musician and artist. In the video titled
8 Artists Advice to the Young she articulates that young artists should not concern themselves with
money. She, instead, believes that they should focus on their work and their name, which will then
translate into success. This advice appeals to me in all facets of life. If I focus on working hard,
success will just be a by product of that hard work. Patti Smith has seemingly taken her own advice as
she has been working on her craft, whether music, poetry, or visual arts, for nearly 45 years ( Patti
Smith ). Anyone who devotes nearly half a decade into their artwork embodies focus. Furthermore, as
Patti Smith expressed, this focus on one s work will translate into success, and for Patti Smith it has.
The evaluation of success is subjective; however, it appears that Patti Smith has achieved success in
all forms. Financially, her net worth is currently valued at $15 million ( Patti Smith Net Worth ). While
critically, she was named one of Rolling Stone magazine s 100 greatest artists (100 Greatest Artists).
Moreover, if success is measured with the legacy one leaves, it is important to note that Patti Smith
serves as an inspiration to numerous musicians. Seeing Patti Smith achieve this level of success while
following her own advice,

soccer players, moreover they decided they needed jerseys. The boy s got together and debated ideas
to make just that happen. They knew that their parents didn t have the funds for such a trivial thing so
so they needed to think of other ways to get the uniforms. One of the brilliant plans they had that didnt

Technology Is Transforming The Retail Experience
NFC Technology is Transforming the Retail Experience I am a completely forgetful person. I am not
proud to admit that, but the other day I was going to grab lunch and while in the drive thru at Wendy s,
I had the ungodly fear of realizing after I ordered that I had left my wallet back at the office.
Embarrassed and strapped for any excuse that didn t sound pathetic, the employee at the drive thru
informed me I could pay for my lunch with my smartphone. I had to download the My Wendy s app,
which contained a virtual card synced to my checking account. The downloading and setting up of the
account was rather quick although probably not as quick as the impatient people in line behind me
would have liked but the process was painless. Unlike using a credit or debit card, which could easily
be scanned by an unscrupulous employee, who could get access to my checking account, the
smartphone transaction is safe and my identity and checking account is protected. The Wave of the
Future Targeting a younger generation, who live and die by their cell phone, many retailers are

Discrimination In America Pros And Cons
The past eight years have been the most amazing in LGBT+ history. From the repeal of Don t Ask
Don t Tell to the overturning of DOMA, there s no denying that the Obama administration has made
huge strides for LGBT+ people in the United States (Obama Administration Record..., 2014).
Although these advances in policy have made the United States a better place for the LGBT+
community, there is still a lot of work that has to be done to ensure that discrimination is prevented
around the country. With the 2016 national election coming quickly, it is important that the LGBT+
community elect someone who will fight for LGBT+ rights. Unfortunately, there are few candidates
who have made LGBT+ issues a part of their platform. Despite the fact that 37% ... Show more

Both want to pass the Equality Act (BernieSanders.com, HillaryClinton.com, 2016), which would
amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 so that people cannot be discriminated against because of their
sexuality, gender identity, or sex (Congress.gov, 2016). Sanders and Clinton also support the Every
Child Deserves a Family Act (BernieSanders.com, HillaryClinton.com, 2016). If passed, this bill
would prevent adoption agencies who are supported by the government from discriminating against
people based on their sexual orientation, gender identity, and marital status. This bill also would not
allow adoption agencies to discriminate against the children based on their sexual orientation or
gender identity (Congress.gov, 2016). These two bills are just a small sample of what Hillary and
Bernie have in common. Hillary s website has many more words about this issue, and she even has a
whole fact sheet about what she will do for the LGBT+ community if elected (Hillaryclinton.com,
2016), but Bernie s website says basically the same things, but in fewer words. From just skimming
through the candidates websites, one might think that Hillary is a better choice for the LGBT+
community just because of the sheer amount of content that she has on the issues, but based on some
things she has said and done in the past she might not be the best choice when compared to Bernie
Sanders,

The Letter Apology Of The Stolen Generations By Kevin Rudd
The 2008 apology to the Stolen Generations by Kevin Rudd is historically significant for a number of
reasons (Creative Spirits, 2014). Some felt it provided closure to a painful and traumatic part of
Indigenous history while others fail to see how the apology has in the years after proven to change the
circumstances of Indigenous peoples. Impacts in areas such as health, education, economic
opportunity and involvement in child protection and/or the criminal justice system are all areas which
should have been impacted by the Apology (Creative Spitis, 2014). However; as this essay will
explore very little impact has been made in any of these areas in actual fact in some ways the gap has
been made wider or perpetuated by acts of government. The Apology was a significant historical event
but it is important to explain why it happened before examining the affects it has had on the
Indigenous community and wider Australia (Creative Spirits, 2014). The Apology was more then just
simply an apology, it acted as a statement of acknowledgement by the Australian Government that
previous governments had committed wrongdoings by removing thousands of Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander children from their homes and families to be placed with White families and missions
(religious camps which taught children white values essentially removing them from all their cultural
roots) (Creative Spirits, 2014). This practice had incredibly adverse affects on families, the children

Media Impact On Entertainment The media is one of the biggest focal points of contemporary America s daily life and America is both blind and naive when it comes to media, but not in the sense that Americans don t know how to understand media, but separates itself from the reality of this fictitious medium. In Bill Moyers Free Speech For Sale, proof arises that media controls more than what most people think. Even though there is proof of media tampering and being overall very deceitful, most Americans decide to detach themselves from the reality of the situation. But entertainment isn t the only thing that s being manipulated to conform to the ideal message: actors and other public presences are filtered and this is seen in Marshall Mcluhan s Amusing Ourselves To Death. Even though media is very dishonorable, it still is astonishing because of the advancements in technology that is seen in the media today. Media has become the ruler of our entertainment. The dictionary describes media as the system and organizations of communication through which information is spread to a large number of people (Webster). But media is so much more than that. Now, it s a type of communication that focuses on bringing to people what really matters... Kylie Jenner s pregnancy and the imprisonment of Miles Teller. There are many concepts that assist in the formation of symbolic interactions, but to better understand them, we need to apply them to social settings. The four concepts of social interactionism theory I chose to observe at the social settings of my choosing were; definition of situation, symbols, front regions, and role playing. These concepts often interrelate as they all are a part of each other. To better understand these concepts, they were applied to two different social settings which were the bar and mass at the Catholic church. The concepts will be defined and reviewed in the order above. When we refer to definition of situation, we are referring to what the entrance of the social setting encompasses. We look at what are the norms, the rules, and what is acceptable in that setting. For example, when I was entering the bar, there were people outside smoking. To be able to walk through the front doors, there was a man who one had to give an ID to so he could check the age to allow the person to get in. When I walked through the doors, there were people sitting at tables in groups of three to five people on the left who would look to see who was entering the bar. On the right side of the bar, there were four people playing foosball and two people at each pool table. As I continued to the back, there were people sitting at the bar visiting. ... Continued decline in enlistment, and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is not the truth at all. Mandatory service will provide those who serve many different types of opportunities. Each man and woman, who serves in the military, no matter what branch, has the opportunity to choose their field of work, or receive advanced training in an area they wish to pursue in the civilian world after their enlistment. Furthermore, they may even be able to choose which state they would live in while serving in the armed forces. This does not sound like slavery or even forced slavery, this sounds more like an opportunity to receive training and other necessary qualities companies and organizations are looking for in the civilian workforce. When looking at the whole picture, and deciding the pro s and con s of the military draft I have one final are for you to look at. Currently our armed forces are voluntary and do not accurately represent the American population. With the ideal draft system in place, it will allow for individuals from all aspects of society to represent and provide their service to our country. Along with proper representation, the military cost would be lowered. Although the armed forces would have to pay individuals more and the additional cost of food, equipment, and other essential needs would go up the, the cost of recruiting, advertising and additional benefits to lure persons into the recruiting ... In fact, the entire history of human accomplishment in the visual arts seems to reveal a deep seated desire to represent time, space, and action visually and as vividly as possible . (Lewis 5) Throughout history, people have exhibited a need to be entertained and a need for hope or something to look forward to. The invention of moving pictures began in 1875 in California when Leland Stanford, the governor of California, got into a disagreement with a rival gambler about whether or not all four hooves of a horse are ever off the ground at the same time. To get to the bottom of this argument, Stanford hired Eadweard Muybridge, a British born entrepreneur and renowned photographer to set up a row of cameras along a racetrack and capture the stages of the horses gallop with timed exposures. (Lewis 8) This technique, known as the battery of camera technique, brought photography leaps and bonds closer to cinema. After proving that all four hooves of a horse are indeed off the ground at the same time, Muybridge took his series photographs on the road where he not only exhibited his work but also talked about the technology that produced it. It was at one of these shows that Thomas Edison met with Muybridge and became interested in producing a more sophisticated simulation of movement on film than Muybridge s series photographs could ever have produced... He had plans to develop a system that might sync serial images with recorded sound played back on the Edison phonograph . (Lewis 9). After meeting with Muybridge, Edison enlisted photographer William Kennedy Laurie Dickson to help him take technology one step further and create a camera that could take a sequence of pictures with a single load ... • 23. The Reentry Policy Brief Provides Executive Summary The Reentry policy brief provides input to the Task Force set up by Florida Governor Rick Scott to reduce the number of incarcerated juveniles and avoid increasing the already wide racial disparities of the incarcerated population of juveniles. Most reentry facilities in Florida are run by reentry programs that were expanded from Transition from Prison to Community (TPC) and Transition from Jail to Community (TJC) models. Yet these programs appear to not have fully addressed recidivism among juveniles and are also not tailored to lower the widening racial disparities among the incarcerated juvenile population. Better evidence based reentry practices are needed to ensure that these programs are not only effective in discontinuing the cycle of recidivism but also address the disproportionate minority contact. A growing body of research demonstrates that comprehensive multi dimensional reentry frameworks increase the chances of reentry programs stopping the cycle of crime among Florida s juvenile offenders. A comprehensive multi dimensional reentry program refers to a standardized program that is implemented statewide and which incorporates evidence based practices such as assessment of needs and risks, individual case planning, and cognitive behavioral interventions. Introduction Criminal justice statistics released by the Annie E. Casey Foundation in 2013 indicated that incarceration numbers for youths in the State of Florida dropped by 32 percent between ... • 24. A Comparison For Variable Cost And Absorption Costing I have attached an analysis for your review. This analysis reflects a comparison for Variable Cost and Absorption costing using Sales: 60,000 units Production: 80,000 units Ending Inventory: 20,000 units Based on these analyses I have made several recommendations along with pros and cons to aid in the decision making process. I recommend that we use absorption costing over variable costing. Absorption costing is a method where ...fixed manufacturing costs are inventoriable costs (Datar, et al, 2009). That is, inventory absorbs all manufacturing costs. In the absorption metho there does not need to be a distinction between fixe and variable costs. Per the analyses performed on the attached spreadsheets one can see that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We should experience some of the following positives after implementing JIT: Supply Chain Management: The JIT inventory model may assist in being more efficient in the way we handle supply chains and use our parts to assemble products. We can provide lower costs throughout the manufacturing process; which can be passed on to our customers. With our lower costs, we could produce a more affordable product for our customers and thereby help to stay ahead of our competitors. Reduction of Waste: By maintaining our current method we are housing products that go unused and/or become obsolete. This causes us to sell product at a reduced price often less than cost or we must dump the product with no money gained at all. The JIT inventory model should help to address this situation and by housing fewer products in the warehouses we could address our customer needs quicker and be open to customized orders. Reduction in Warehouse Costs: It can be costly to keep excess inventory on hand. By moving to JIT we may be able to reduce the number of warehouses we currently have as well as eliminate excess storage. Improved Customer Relations: Adopting the JIT model will allow for better servicing of our customers. Having greater control of the manufacturing process will make it easier to respond to our customers needs and any changes they may have or require. While I have high lited the positives above we must also consider possible negative aspects.

With industry as its host and technology as the blood being pumped into its heart, it is a force powerful enough to bend politics to fit its needs. Capitalism; a method of industry where production and distribution are privately or corporately owned, its operation grows through profits, exploitation of labor, and extinguishing competition. During the Industrial Revolution technology was on the global stage. Factories and machines are built in existing cities producing and distributing mass goods on a global scale. She currently resides in New York City, which is also where she made her name working as a musician and artist. In the video titled 8 Artists Advice to the Young she articulates that young artists should not concern themselves with money. She, instead, believes that they should focus on their work and their name, which will then translate into success. This advice appeals to me in all facets of life. If I focus on working hard, success will just be a by product of that hard work. Patti Smith has seemingly taken her own advice as she has been working on her craft, whether music, poetry, or visual arts, for nearly 45 years ( Patti Smith ). Anyone who devotes nearly half a decade into their artwork embodies focus. Furthermore, as Patti Smith expressed, this focus on one s work will translate into success, and for Patti Smith it has. The evaluation of success is subjective; however, it appears that Patti Smith has achieved success in all forms. Financially, her net worth is currently valued at $15 million ( Patti Smith Net Worth ). While critically, she was named one of Rolling Stone magazine s 100 greatest artists (100 Greatest Artists). Embarrassed and strapped for any excuse that didn t sound pathetic, the employee at the drive thru informed me I could pay for my lunch with my smartphone. The downloading and setting up of the account was rather quick although probably not as quick as the impatient people in line behind me would have liked but the process was painless. The Letter Apology Of The Stolen Generations By Kevin Rudd The 2008 apology to the Stolen Generations by Kevin Rudd is historically significant for a number of reasons (Creative Spirits, 2014). Impacts in areas such as health, education, economic opportunity and involvement in child protection and/or the criminal justice system are all areas which should have been impacted by the Apology (Creative Spitis, 2014). However; as this essay will explore very little impact has been made in any of these areas in actual fact in some ways the gap has been made wider or perpetuated by acts of government. The Apology was a significant historical event but it is important to explain why it happened before examining the affects it has had on the Indigenous community and wider Australia (Creative Spirits, 2014). The Apology was more then just simply an apology, it acted as a statement of acknowledgement by the Australian Government that previous governments had committed wrongdoings by removing thousands of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their homes and families to be placed with White families and missions (religious camps which taught children white values essentially removing them from all their cultural roots) (Creative Spirits, 2014).
