This document summarizes a study on the use of red mud and used foundry sand to produce self-compacting concrete. Red mud is an industrial waste from aluminum processing and used foundry sand is waste from metal casting industries. The study produced self-compacting concrete mixtures by partially replacing cement with 1-4% red mud and partially replacing fine aggregate with 10% used foundry sand. Testing showed the compressive, splitting tensile, and flexural strengths were highest with 2% red mud replacement, increasing up to 15.4% over the control mixture.
