This document provides instructions for creating presentations using PowerPoint or screen capture software. It discusses storyboarding the presentation, recording options in PowerPoint or using screen capture, setting up audio, and editing recordings. 5. STORYBOARD
• Do storyboard in PowerPoint –
• Doesn’t matter what your final type of presentation will be
• What essentials must be shown?
• Think of screencapture or slides that must be shown
• Take screenshots to help you visualize
• Add images that will help make your point
• Think of words to explain your thought
process/storyboard

• Don’t worry about transitions – just the put down main ideas

9. OPTIONS FOR RECORDING
• There are two options for recording in Camtasia: Record PowerPoint and
Record your screen AKA Screencapture.
• The simplest option is to create a screencast by recording a PowerPoint.

10. RECORDING OPTIONS
• After opening up Camtasia, make sure your microphone is plugged into the
microphone outlet or USB depending upon the type of microphone you
have.
• A non-issue if you are using an internal microphone

11. SETTING UP AUDIO FOR RECORDING
• Next go into “Tools”. From the Drop-down menu select, “Voice narration.”

12. SETTING UP AUDIO FOR RECORDING
• Select, “Audio Set Up Wizard” to test volume and select the microphone
for use. Click “Next” to auto adjust the volume.

13. SET UP DIMENSIONS OF SCREEN
• In Camtasia, first select “Record Screen”. A window will open in the
bottom right with tools to select the dimensions of the video, to select
the area to be recorded, and various other inputs.
• The optimal dimensions are 640x480 under “Custom”.

14. SELECT AREA TO RECORD
• Select the area to be recorded here.
• Full screen or Custom area(pick an area), you don’t have to record the
whole screen.

15. RECORDING A POWERPOINT (.PPT)
PRESENTATION
• Go back to Camtasia and from the “Record the Screen” drop down menu
select, “Record PowerPoint”.
• If you have not opened up the PowerPoint presentation you would like to
record, you will be prompted to do so at this point.

• Once you have opened up the document in PPT, click “Add-In’s” on the
right of screen.
• Then, click “Record” on the top left of screen.

• Then, select “Click to Begin Recording” and narrate and move through the
PowerPoint Presentation using your script.
• To pause, click on “CTRL+Shift+F9” and to stop click on
“CTRL+SHIFT+F10” or “ESC”.

18. SECOND OPTION: RECORDING A SCREEN
CAPTURE
• From Camtasia, select, “Record the Screen”
• Select area of screen to record by going to’ Select Area’
• Full screen
• Custom-made
• Select optimal dimensions of 640x480
• Select “rec” to begin recording
• Countdown will appear before recording starts

19. RECORDING A SCREEN CAPTURE
• Narrate the screencast
• Controls for volume, pause, stop, delete and length of recording will
pop on while recording.
• Use the recording controls or else press “Ctrl+Shift+F9” to pause or
“Ctrl+SHIFT+F10” to stop your recording.
• You can either stop recording or pause and then continue if you would like to
record further.

20. SAVING RECORDING
• Upon stopping the recording, a preview will be shown.
• Another window will open below showing the option to produce, save and
edit screen cast or recorded PowerPoint or delete. Always select “Save
and Edit”.

21. SAVING THE SCREEN RECORDING
• A prompt to name the project will open. Include a date in the name or if
done in sections, section 1 and so forth.
• Recording will save as a Camtasia Studio Recording file (.camrec ).
• Create a file folder with the name of the file for it and save your recording
in this file folder.
• Screencast is now ready to be edited if desired

22. EDITING MEDIA FILES (FORMERLY EDITING A .CAMREC
FILE)
• If you are working on the same computer, simply open up the Camtasia file
and begin editing.
• To edit a .Camproj on a different computer than created or by more than one
person, save all of the associated files from Camtasia onto a storage device.
All files that are part of a specific .Camproj file must be included in any file
copy. These files include: .Camproj, .Camrec (including edited files), PPT.
• Save the .Camproj file to a storage device while the file is still open. Save it to
the external storage device directly, as dropping or dragging the files does
not work correctly. Then you may open up the file on your computer for
editing or viewing.

23. EDITING MEDIA FILES (FORMERLY EDITING A
.CAMREC FILE)
• You can now begin editing your file. When you save it the next time, your
file will save as a Camtasia Studio Project file (.camproj).

• If editing project on a different computer, then where previously recorded:
• Open Camtasia and then click “Import Media” and select file to be
imported.

 Drag and drop the imported media files from your Clip bin to the Timeline
below.
• Now select the size of your video for editing.

preview of the recording.
