Business Content Administration
Integrating Business Content
Content provider exposes content (e.g., applications or roles) from a backend system to make
it available within SAP Build Work Zone. Content providers can expose content from cloud
and on-premise systems.
The federation scenario consists of a content
exposure step, which is done on the content
provider side, and a content consumption step,
which is done on SAP Build Work Zone
In this scenario, the administrator manages the
application configuration. Apps, groups, and
catalogs are added manually and assigned to the
business roles

UI Integration Cards
UI integration card is a powerful option to display the most-concise pieces
of business data and enable straightforward and decisive user action in a
limited-space container, helping users structure their work in an intuitive
and dynamic way across different devices.
 UI integration cards are primarily
implemented using SAPUI5*.
 Cards provide configurations that
are maintained at runtime.
 Cards can interact with each
other.
 Citizen developers can develop
“declarative cards” using low-code
development patterns.
 “Component cards” are pro-code
alternatives for more-complex
scenarios.
Implementation
Group information
Ex: ticket count by priority, assets per direct
team members, and such
Link to details
Ex: list of high-priority tickets, pending PRM
reviews, and the like
Summary presentation
Ex: charts for employee satisfaction, project
status, and so on
Call for action
Ex: respond to HR survey, initiate a workflow
or overdue training assignment, and so forth
…
Use cases
* Preconfigured Web content cards can embed other applications or Web content.

Context Awareness for UI Integration Cards
Exclusive to advanced edition (Page 1 of 2)
Context Awareness is mechanism allowing to exchange small set of data between
different UI Integration Cards added on the same page in SAP Build Work Zone
 Context is low-level element of page in SAP
Build Work Zone: it can be read and
updated by UI Integration Cards within the
same page using standard API of SAPUI5
framework
 Context is available within the same browser
window only (i.e. it’s not permanently stored
in SAP Build Work Zone or temporarily in
browser cookies or cache)
 Context uses namespaces to segregate
data, namespaces defined by developer of
UI Integration Cards. There are two
reserved namespaces — 'sap.workzone'
and 'sap.successfactors’
What is Context? What is not Context?
 Context is not permanent storage for data:
backend systems should be used to store
this data
What are use cases?
 Context Awareness allows to split complex
data driven UI Integration Cards:
− UI Integration Card for filters/search criteria
− UI Integration Card for table/list/chart data
 Context Awareness also allows to split and
re-use some business logic across multiple
UI Integration Cards in the same domain:
− Common UI Integration Card for filters/search
criteria
− UI Integration Card for ServiceNow to show
incidents (with common filters/search criteria)
− UI Integration Card for ServiceNow to show
change requests (with common filters/search
criteria)

Shell plug-ins
Shell plug-ins allow developers to hook into the SAP Build Work Zone shell
and run custom code to modify default behavior or add new functionality.
 Shell plug-ins are freestyle UI5 apps
with special manifest properties.
 Developers can create such a shell
plug-in using SAP Business
Application Studio and deploy it to the
desired BTP subaccount as an
MTAR.
 The SAP Build Work Zone
administrator can enable the shell
plug-in through the content manager
inside the administrative console.
 Custom code in the shell plug-in runs
once at the initial load of SAP
Build Work Zone.
Implementation
Work zone header action
Ex: custom button in the work zone header,
for instance
Additional theme modifications
Ex: adding dynamic theme style sheets
depending on the logged-in user, for example
Critical information pop-up
Ex: mandatory Covid testing announcement
as a dialog upon login, for instance
Additional integrations
Ex: overlay of a virtual assistant button,
addition of a custom chat or telephony, and
so on

APIs and webhooks*
APIs are primarily used by other SAP or third-party solutions to integrate with
SAP Build Work Zone, advanced edition to either query data based on scope or
create new content. On the other hand, webhook subscriptions are used to
register for notifications of certain updates or activities within SAP Build Work
Zone.
 APIs are available as OData or REST
services.
 User authorization and authentication
can be done using OAuth1.0a or 2.0
workflow or SAML assertions from a
trusted identity provider.
 APIs also support single-use tokens
for granting immediate, short-term
access to single pages.
 Webhooks are used to register call-
back end points for supported events.
When such an event occurs, it
notifies registered subscribers.
Implementation
Manage content with third-party
apps
Ex: create content from e-mail or Microsoft
Teams communications and such
Gather usage statistics
Ex: the ML-based recommendation engine
can read SAP Build Work Zone activities, for

SCIM Users and Groups Provisioning in SAP Build Work Zone
Digital Workplace Service (DWS) layer - Overview
User provisioning allows to create, update and delete
profiles available in Digital Workplace Service (home
pages, workspaces, profile pages)
Group provisioning allows to create, update and delete
(imported) user lists available in Digital Workplace
Service (home pages, workspaces, profile pages)
It doesn’t include any other SAP or third-party applications
(e.g. to access SAP Fiori apps hosted in SAP S/4HANA
from SAP Build Work Zone, user must have account and
authorizations in SAP S/4HANA)
Imported users lists cannot be changed in UI of SAP Build
Work Zone. Member lists can be used to grand access to
administrative areas, home pages or workspaces.

SCIM Users and Groups Provisioning in SAP Build Work Zone
Digital Workplace Service (DWS) layer – External Users
External users are the most restricted user type. They are guests of organization and are given access to
only the specific private external workspaces to which they have been invited, as well as to their dedicated
home pages (for external users) and their user profile. They are allowed only limited information about, or
interactions with, other users.
In the contrast to full access users, external users have the following restrictions:
• Dedicated external user homepages shared with the other external users.
• No permissions to create workspaces nor to access My Workspace.
• Link to the Applications screen isn't listed in the menu (but the applications are
still available for the user).
• Search and collaboration scope restricted to external workspaces.
• Contact information for external users can be hidden.

Public
SAP Build Work Zone exposes two REST APIs based off the System for Cross-domain Identity Management
(SCIM 2.0) specification*. This first API is specifically leveraged for the role assignment in the content
manager, optionally available in the context of integrating with external content providers.

SAP Build Work Zone exposes two REST APIs based off the System for Cross-domain Identity Management

Different sets of features based on the 4 editions of SAP Jam – Basic,
Advanced, Advanced Plus & Enterprise.
SAP Build Work Zone includes most capabilities of SAP Jam Enterprise
edition (and hence implicitly from the lower editions as well). SAP Build Work
Zone adds a broad range of not available in SAP Jam of course!
Administrative Areas including ‘Custom’ Homepages with page builder and
selection of pre-built widgets.
Administrative Areas including ‘Custom’ Homepages with page builder, selection
of pre-built widgets & Build Work Zone specific ability to add applications from
the built-in launchpad as well as UI Integration Cards
SAP Jam groups with different layout options & overview pages with page
builder and selection of pre-built widgets.
SAP Build Work Zone workspaces present the evolution of SAP Jam groups,
with expanded scope / capabilities. Workspaces always use ‘header-based’
layout option, overview pages can now have 6 (instead of 4) columns, overview
pages can also use applications from the launchpad + UI Integration Cards
and the workspace menu is merged with the tab structure.
SAP Jam group features like feed, content, tasks, forums, calendars or
knowledge base articles. Groups can be public, private or external – depending
on the required use cases.
Workspaces have the same features / sections that can be enabled and those
sections like feed, forum, content & more have the same capabilities. In addition
to the same 3 types (public / private / external), there is new type of workspace
available just for each user – the ‘My Workspace’. This is in an optionally
enabled capability though.
SAP Jam supports both uploaded (Office, PDF, Video, etc.) as well as natively
created (blogs, wikis, etc.) content.
SAP Build Work Zone equally supports both uploaded (Office, PDF, Video, etc.)
as well as natively created (blogs, wikis, etc.) content.
SAP Jam user profile with profile-level content, feed & settings – provisioned
either via nightly job from HXM Core (BizX) or SAP Cloud Identity Services.
SAP Build Work Zone user profile with profile-level content, feed & settings –
always provisioned using SAP Cloud Identity Services.
