Lesson Overview
1. Yesterday's lesson is reviewed and the today's lesson is introduced.
2. The class are split into groups and assigned a whiteboard to brainstorm what they know
about hacking and internet scams. The class are given 5 minutes to do this and then you
remind them that they have 2 minutes left at the appropriate time.
3. While they do this you roam around and help and give feedback.
4. Each group shares one idea that they have come up with. The class need several re-
minders about Manaaki and listening to their peers.
5. The class then define hacking and scamming and give lots of great examples.
6. There is a bit of argy bargy about where to sit so the class are reminded that it is a privi-
lege to be in the room and they need to show Manaaki.
7. The class watch a short video with tips on scams. The class then discuss the main points
of the video.
8. A student complains that he is being poked with a pen by someone else so you give an-
other Manaaki reminder.
9. Ideas of what might be in a scam email are brainstormed. You then explain what you
want the class to do.
Positives
1. You were very firm with your expectation that everyone listen when someone is speak-
ing.
2. The class are engaged and enjoying the lesson and topic.
3. Your feedback was positive and encouraging.
Areas to work on
1. Remember to remind students to put their devices away if they sneak out.
2. Consider keeping the Manaaki reminders shorter and to the point and then move on.
Otherwise people start zoning out.
Tips
🔴 Consider having the class all sit together on the floor at the start while you are explain-
ing what to do.
🔴 Write task instructions on the board, it was unclear whether they were brainstorming
or writing a scam email for the last task.

  • 1. Lesson Overview 1. Yesterday's lesson is reviewed and the today's lesson is introduced. 2. The class are split into groups and assigned a whiteboard to brainstorm what they know about hacking and internet scams. The class are given 5 minutes to do this and then you remind them that they have 2 minutes left at the appropriate time. 3. While they do this you roam around and help and give feedback. 4. Each group shares one idea that they have come up with. The class need several re- minders about Manaaki and listening to their peers. 5. The class then define hacking and scamming and give lots of great examples. 6. There is a bit of argy bargy about where to sit so the class are reminded that it is a privi- lege to be in the room and they need to show Manaaki. 7. The class watch a short video with tips on scams. The class then discuss the main points of the video. 8. A student complains that he is being poked with a pen by someone else so you give an- other Manaaki reminder. 9. Ideas of what might be in a scam email are brainstormed. You then explain what you want the class to do. Positives 1. You were very firm with your expectation that everyone listen when someone is speak- ing. 2. The class are engaged and enjoying the lesson and topic. 3. Your feedback was positive and encouraging. Areas to work on 1. Remember to remind students to put their devices away if they sneak out. 2. Consider keeping the Manaaki reminders shorter and to the point and then move on. Otherwise people start zoning out. Tips 🔴 Consider having the class all sit together on the floor at the start while you are explain- ing what to do. 🔴 Write task instructions on the board, it was unclear whether they were brainstorming or writing a scam email for the last task.
