Students who are 10-16 years of age, are looking
forward to the future. They are actually
preparing for college or technical school or
focusing on simply graduating. This age group
may be distracted by many outside activities
and if they are not interested in science, it will
be a challenge for the teachers to teach them
in the classroom

Either SCIENCE is difficult or BOREDOM

7. There are lots of reasons. Some of them are…
1. Science is arrogant, so I don’t like science
2 Science is full of Mathematics. So I don’t like science.
3 Science is full of diagrams.
4 Science is full of formulae which are difficult to remember
5 Science is full of difficult terminologies.
6 Science is full of negativity. Scientists are always doubting things.
7 Science is mechanistic and cold, so I don’t like it.
8 The curriculum is boring.
9 The students have become worse at science.
10 Lack of examples in the classroom teaching
11 Lack of demonstration in the classroom.
12 The teaching is uninspiring.
So, what can be done now ???

8. Student engagement and understanding of the subject is given
more emphasis in today’s education system than spoon feeding
the facts.
Therefore, using black-boards or the typical lecture methods are
not adequate to teach science and other related subjects.
Many scholars and researchers have proposed advanced ideas
and they claim that virtual teaching scenarios or simulations can
help to build a better understanding of subjects amongst the
students.

9. Hands on Learning:
This is the best teaching method invented so far that involves the
active participation of students to experience scientific concepts
than to just have an audience view.
The use of low cost apparatus or home made models in the
classrooms will give the students a better opportunity to learn
science easily.
For example: Teachers can bring different
samples of soil, stones and other such materials
to the classroom while teaching the students
Rocks and Soil.

10. Story Telling:
Students love to hear stories and therefore, story telling is one of
the best ways to get their attention in class. Teacher can explain
the facts of biology or the laws of physics in the form of stories.
This is a mental organizer as human brains can remember stories
than just plain facts. Some teachers present the whole concept as
a story while some others use a story to open and end the session.

11. Be A Role Model
This innovative method is becoming an integral part of
science education as students can intellectually and
physically involve through activities while learning a new
concept.
Activities can be organized in classroom sessions where a
group of students can take the role of atoms or molecules
to study a chemical reaction or valency of atoms.

12. Visual clues:
The multi-sensory experiences improve their understanding
and memorisation. This includes drawings, diagrams, and
pictures to assist theory and setting up examples to show its
application side.

information and students
can easily connect better

13. Teach concepts, not facts…
Conceptual learning is an educational method that centers
on learning how to organize and categorize information.
Unlike more traditional learning models which concentrate
on the ability to recall specific facts, conceptual learning
focuses on understanding broader principles or ideas that
can later be applied to a variety of specific examples.
Thus a student can be made interested in science and
in other subjects too.

14. Improve the Image of Science
Children are natural scientists. They ask questions, pick
up sticks and bugs outside. They are curious about the
world around them. But as they get a bit older, many
kids gradually lose their interest in science.
They might see it as just another task at school,
something that doesn't apply to their lives. So a teacher
can remind the kids that science is everywhere and
most of these are fun for adults, too!

15. Motivate the Students
In order to keep the students interested in science , they must be
involved with the subject by third or fourth grade of their school
life. A teacher can nurture this attraction to science by making it
fun and interesting. We can do the followings for that….
1. Connecting Science to Students’ Everyday Life.
2. Exposing the Students to New Opportunities.
3. By involving the students in making models .
4. Teaching them to observe the things around.
5. By asking the students to teach each other.
6. Developing their confidence by asking easy questions.

Some acids and bases are strong while some are weak.

which are Acids, Bases and Salts.
