Spiders and insects grow through different life cycles. Spiders hatch from egg sacs as young spiders and grow into adults, while most insects lay eggs. Many insects go through three stages - egg, nymph which resembles the adult, and adult. Some insects like butterflies have a four-stage cycle of egg, larva which is very different from the adult, pupa where growth occurs but the insect does not eat, and finally emerging as an adult.

2. larva - a young animal that has a different shape than the adult.

Main Ideas:
· Spiders are arachnids and have eight legs, two body segments (parts)
and no wings.
· Insects have six legs, three main body segments (parts) and many have
wings. Most insects lay eggs. A spider life cycle --> egg sac, young
spiders grow from eggs in the egg sac, the spiders hatch & break out of
the sac, young spiders grow into adults and produce offspring of their
own.
· 3-stage life cycle --> egg, nymph adult. Many insects with a 3-stage life
cycle have the same body form as their parent
