Benito Mussolini Fatal Fascist Empire Essay
Mistrust in Mussolini s Fatal Fascist Empire
After the Italian unification (1858 1870) and World War One (1914 1918) Italy craved the great power
reputation that other European nations had. Italy was in complete disarray: unemployment, peasant
rebellions, and political tension; the one thing Italians agreed on was their need for a new government.
Benito Mussolini (1883 1945), or Il Duce, was originally a poor revolutionary boy who rose through
the ranks, creating a totalitarian government. After the March to Rome (October 1922), Mussolini was
called by the king to discuss his ideas for a new government, one Mussolini called Fascism. This
somewhat new form of secular government supported extreme nationalism while it strictly
disencouraged democracy and voice of opinion. As an Italian, one had to unconsciously give up
natural rights in order to be protected by the state. Mussolini was infatuated with ideas of Italy
becoming a new Roman Empire; he gained support by promising Italians that they would be powerful
like their ancestors. Although Fascism and Mussolini s ideals may have seemed favorable for Italy, his
inability to successfully change Italy s problems led him to cover the truth with propaganda, which
ultimately could not save him from his demise. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1925 Mussolini administered La Battaglia del Grano or The Battle for Wheat , an economic policy
stating Italy would only import grain with extremely high tariffs, while growing mass amounts of
wheat themselves (Cohen 70). Unfortunately this also meant the price of bread had to be raised
substantially high, which inevitably would not please Mussolini s people (Economic Policy,
Britannica). The need for propaganda around grain rose because Mussolini needed people to continue
supporting him and Fascism, even though bread was more expensive and people had to give large
portions of their grain to the

Relationship Between Societies Of Today And The Environment
An interdisciplinary program presented is an investigation of the relationship between societies of
today and the environment they/we live in. In my focus particularly are societies of the Westernized
parts of the world. Their activities within, attitudes towards, values regarding and comprehensiveness
of the complexity of the environment they live and operate in. Consequently, my personal goal is to
gain a deep knowledge of the interconnectedness of human activity and alterations it does to the
environment. Equally, I also aim to understand how attitudes and values (towards the environment)
are passed from generations to generations. After successfully accomplishing studies, my goal is to
collaborate with the representatives of the younger generations to and promote awareness of their
deportment on the more global scale. Academically, my strategy is to pursue Individualized Major in
Environment and Society and to successfully accomplish Minor in Psychology withal. Environment
and Society as a traditional Major is offered at the University of California, Berkley and at the
University of Minnesota. To enhance the experience of the Individual Major, during the Junior and
Senior years at Emmanuel College, I aspire to attend Environmental Forum provided every spring by
Colleges of Fenway. As a capstone experience I foresee myself undergoing an internship in a locally
based Education Outreach Program2. On this matter, I would like to accentuate that driven by my
interest I am

Why Stereotypes Are Important Essay
There are many places where jokes are appreciated. At a friend s house, a comedy club, or a family
gathering, jokes are common, and even expected. However, there are many places where jokes should
not be told. Places such as a classroom, a serious dinner, and a business meeting, are not good settings
for jokes and laughter. I think it is important to learn when and where to tell jokes, not to always seek
attention, and know what jokes are appropriate for your setting. Jokes can be very helpful. After a
great loss, people might watch a comedy in the hopes of bringing their spirits up or forgetting about
their pain for just a few seconds. On the other hand, in class when teachers are trying to get work
done, one should not make jokes to get a few laughs. It is important to focus on the task at hand, and
not joke around until the time is right. Sometimes when people wisecrack, they throw ... Show more

Topics such as death and killing at schools is very sensitive, and no jokes should be made about this
subject. In recent years many kids have threatened to kill their classmates, and some of them followed
through with it. This is why when someone makes a fool of themselves and says something humorous
about the subject, they should be taken seriously and given the fitting punishment. It is important to
remember where you are and if anyone would be offended before you make a joke. Jokes are often
misinterpreted and can offend people. The saying Beauty is in the eye of beholder is similar with
humor. A joke isn t funny unless the audience finds it funny. There are places where comedy is normal
and it is okay to joke around. However, there are places, such as in a classroom, where jokes are not

The Effects Of Media On Children With Disabilities Essay
Mass media allows many people in society to understand different problems and receive news around
the world. In the United States, mass media plays a big role in portraying stereotypes and creating
stigmas, especially for people with disabilities. It can be very difficult for people who do not have a
disability to portray the feelings of someone with a disability or understand how to create media that
does not contain stereotypes of people with disabilities.
When people with disabilities are included in the making of media content, they are able to debate the
societal issues related to them that rarely make the mainstream press (Haller, 2010, p.117). This means
that they can bring up problems that they have personally experienced and help educate society on
how those problems can be resolved. News about disabilities should be included in the media more
often in order to help able bodied people become aware of disabilities and avoid the stereotypes that
have been created. If a person with a disability helps make a story about someone with a disability,
they can make sure the story explains the necessary issue and disregards any stigmas. Beth Haller
describes in her book Representing Disabilities in an Ableist World: Essays on Mass Media that
historically, articles about people with disabilities rarely made it into the news, and, when the articles
were written, that they were misrepresentative and stigmatizing (2010, p. 119). In addition, an
individual with disability can

Bishop Spong And The Bible
Bishop Spong is certainly not like most church leaders, he views religion and religious beliefs as they
should apply to the current generation and incorporates the Bible into society not as fundamental law
but by addressing the overall message of God I choose to discuss Bishops Spongs ideas with someone
not in this class and I choose to confer on this subject matter with my live in boyfriend Justin. I felt
that discussion on these topics with him would be beneficial not only in the completion of my course
work but also contribute to the growth and understanding in our relationship of our beliefs regarding
the bible and religion, divorce, and homosexuality. Throughout this course I enjoyed many of the
topics and discussed them very openly with my spouse because unlike myself he is religious but did
not grow up in a home in which church was attended regularly. In discussing and viewing the video on
Bishop Spong and the Bible as the truth I came to the conclusion that people agree with the Bishop
Spongs statements that the Bible is used most times to support injustice and prejudice with in the
world. Justin has always told me since we met that while he believes in God he feels the Bible is just a
history book and can be used as a guide for humankind but cannot be applied to the present day.
Initially I must say I was a little offended but upon taking this course we can agree that many stories
in the Bible tend to be conflicting. In many ways this is a reflection upon society

The Notion Of Purchasing Power Parity
A. Discuss the notion of purchasing power parity (PPP) (10 marks) 300 words
Purchasing power parity (PPP) was developed as the theory of exchange rate determination, which
was the basis for the relationship between product price levels and exchange rates and is now
primarily used to compare living standards across countries (CFA, 2015).
The foundation version of PPP was based on the assumption that identical goods should trade at the
same price across countries when valued in terms of a common currency. This is known as the law of
one price and derived from the no arbitrage assumption (Dornbush, 1985; Taylor and Taylor, 2004;
CFA, 2015). It means that a bundle of goods and services would cost the same in two countries when
the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Absolute PPP is the extended version of the law of one price with all goods and services consumed in
different countries instead of one single good (CFA, 2015). Absolute PPP is expressed as ( ). The
absolute PPP asserts that the current spot rate is determined by the ratio of national price levels,
although like the one price theory struggles in actual application (Alba and Papell, 2007; Alessandria,
and Kaboski, 2011). An example of the average price for a Big Mac was $4.79 in January 2015 in the
US whereas at market exchange rate in China it was only $2.77, showing that China yuan is
undervalued compared to US dollar. This has reduced the Absolute PPP s usefulness as the theory of
exchange rate determination.
On the other hand, the Relative and Ex Ante PPP implies that exchanged rate between two countries is
affected by their inflation rates and expressed as (CFA, 2015). In the long run, the relative PPP
predicts that countries with a low inflation rate have currency s that tend to appreciate and conversely
with countries that have a high inflation rate; and the % change in exchange rate will equal the %
difference in national inflation rates (Baffes, 1991; Taylor and Taylor, 2004).
Although shot term, nominal exchange rates could be volatile but over the long run will tend to
gravitate toward PPP equilibrium values (Yotopoulos and Sawada, 2006; Papell and Prodan, 2006).
Hence PPP could be seen as a vale

All Animals Are Equal By Essay
Argumentative Essay: All Animals are Equal
In his book all animals are equal, Singer argues that human beings should extend to non human
species the same equality of consideration that is extended to fellow human beings. He based his
argument on the fact that past liberation movements aimed at condemning discriminations based on
gender and sex had been declared absurd at their onset, but had later on yielded fruits. This
discrimination against animals, he argues, is similar to these past discriminations. For this reason, he
wants the human species to consider non human animals as having rights just as humans have. In his
opinion, the only criterion of moral importance that succeeds in including human beings and
excluding all non humans, is their membership in the homo sapiens species category, and using this
membership as a criterion of moral importance, is completely arbitrary. In other words Singer believes
that we should attach importance to the interests of individuals without regard to their species (Daly,
1997). A human being should not be considered superior to a cow just because one is a cow and the
other is a dog.
Contrary to this argument however, Singer s view is not very radical since human beings and non
human animals have different interests, and so the treatment of both species the same will only mean
giving fair amounts of different treatment. Singer gives examples of the Black Liberation movements
and the fight for women s rights (Moore Parker, 2007). If

Lifestyle Declaration in the Armed Services
In 1993 President Bill Clinton signed a law that set the policy of don t ask, don t tell, don t pursue, and
don t harass when dealing with homosexuals serving in the Armed Services. The policy was a
compromise to allow homosexuals to legally serve in the military as long as they did not declare their
lifestyle or engage in conduct that was in violation of military good order and discipline. Supporters
viewed the law as a step forward in achieving equal rights for homosexuals. Opponents remained
concerned that the policy could jeopardize morale and unit effectiveness. The Joint Chiefs, including
the chairman, had all came out against the president on gays serving in the military (Gates 440). Over
time the military was able to adapt to the new policy and restore force readiness. In 2010 the Don t
Ask, Don t Tell policy was repealed and homosexuals were given the opportunity to openly serve in
the military. The Joint Chiefs once again objected and questioned the timing of the change. Many
believe the repeal was politically motivated and a bad idea that would add additional disruption to an
already strained fighting force. Every new service member must go through Basic Training for up to
12 weeks depending on the branch of service. The purpose of Basic Training is to indoctrinate the new
service member into the ways of military life. New service members are taught to work as a group and

The Colonization Of North America Essay
During the sixteenth century European pilgrims migrated across the Atlantic Ocean to settle in North
America. North America had just been introduced to the Western Civilization. The America s were
home to the indigenous people, that were made up of several tribes that were called Indians by the
early settlers. Together the Indians and settlers began to thrive. Growth and development in the new
world was made possible by the abundant amount of natural resources. These early settlers had a
major influence on the joining of these two cultures. Settlers started to inhabit and populate along the
east coast and moving north and south. They began organising into colonies and called themselves
colonist. Colonist enjoyed freedoms and opportunities that they never had. Owning land was never
possible in the colonist previous civilization. Colonist were also free to decide how they wanted to
make a living unlike the peasant life that many of them had known before. One of the biggest reasons
the colonist were so enthusiastic because they got to worship how they wanted. They were finally able
to practice and believe in God to their best understanding. For centuries very few people have had this
right, to worship as they desire. One can see why the colonist lived with so much passion and pride in
this new life style. During the 1700s there began to be uneasiness and frustration amongst the colonist.
Much of the frustration grew because of the unfair dominion that

Personal Statement On Personal Identity
Abstract
John Locke talks about personal identity. In additionally, he also speaks of the survival of conscious
after the demise of an individual. Locke also examines the criterion of personal identity though time.
The norm specifies insofar. Locke maintains that personal identity is a matter of psychological
continuity. Locker vividly considered personal self to be founded under consciousness, instead of
substance of the soul or the body.
Introduction
The matter of personal identity as well as its determents has become a matter of concern among
philosophers. Numerous questions have been raised as to what it does to be the person someone is
throughout the lifetime. For this reason, personal identity is a philosophical encounter with the
ultimate questions in regards to own existence. The questions include, who we are? Is there existence
after demise? Personal identity gives a set of sufficient conditions for personal identity over time. As
far as modern philosophy is concerned, the concept of personal identity is sometimes called diachronic
problem of personal character. The synchronic problems that are grounded in the question of traits are
used to characterize a certain problem over time. There are several theories that describes identity
problem. Throughout this paper, I will seek to discuss the views of John Locke with respect to his
theory of personal identity.
Essentially, Locke speaks of the existence of loosely connected questions that go hand in hand with

During the recession in 1990, Mercedes Benz struggled to adapt to changing markets. The luxury car
market lost money for the first time in history in the 90 s. In 1993, there was a big sales slump in

From this, engineers determined that chassis quality was important. A fourth table was created to
know the importance index of various function groups by using information from table1 and table 3.
For example, the importance index for chassis is calculated by multiplying each row in table 3 with
the relative percentage of each column of table1 that is (.50 x .41) + (.30 x .32) + (.10 x .18) + (.10 x
.09) = .33. A final table was developed to calculate the target cost index for each functional group. The
target cost index was calculated by dividing each important index (from table 4) with target cost (from
table 2). For example, the importance index for Chassis is .33 and the target cost is 20% so the target
cost index is 1.65. A function group with target cost index ration less than 1 indicates that it is a
candidate for possible cost reduction. That is the ratio of cost to benefit is low. Options available are:
Re evaluating assumptions or importance, reduce cost of existing design by working with supply

However, Target has shown a great level of globalized business outside United States. The first step
started in 2005 when the company showed its appearance in India and Bangalore. This step was
conducted through license agreements with customer service representatives and team service, or
Internet support and technical support. Although claims that these activities could be considered as
outsourcing, Target Corporation has been used a strategic planning process. According to Target
(2005), globalisation is a hard step to go globe, which breaks a number of barriers which comes from
difference in culture, political issues, economical circumstance and competition, to achieve the
company s target and provide the best service to its customers. In addition, the method of organizing

Thomas Paine Influence
Would the revolutionary war in the New World have developed without Thomas Paine? Political
activist Thomas Paine created the first influential piece of writing, Common Sense, about retrieving
American independence over Great Britain. Common Sense was a famous 50 page pamphlet
discussing the possibility of creating a democratic republican party, and advocating independence
from Great Britain. Thomas Paine had ideas of independence before he wrote Common Sense, but the
American Public and his comrades motivated him even more about the prospect of independence, and
influenced him to write the pamphlet. Thomas Paine, contributing as a major factor in the
development of the American Revolution, was persistent on enforcing his ideas, and even helped ...

He had already written papers about the injustices and cruelties the Americans had to face while being
overruled by Britain. Thomas Paine was the only American who had the audacity to write about
gaining independence from Britain. He was the one who believed in America and its citizens to
become a world superpower, and to grow into making their beloved country special. Written in his
essay Age of Reason, he said, I saw, or at least I thought I saw, a vast scene opening itself to the world
in the affairs of America; and it appeared to me, that unless the Americans changed the plan they were
then pursuing, with respect to the government of England, and declared themselves independent, they
would not only involve themselves in a multiplicity of new difficulties, but shut out the prospect that
was then offering itself to mankind through their means, (44). In this passage of The Age of Reason,
he stated his motive to write Common Sense. His motive to write Common Sense was for his patriots
and the country as a whole. Not to make his political status rise, but to help America progress as an
independent country. It wasn t about him and his career as an author, but about having colonial unity
amongst it s citizens, and fight together to make America advance. Not only was their motive from the
American public, but also from his fellow comrades, like Ben Franklin. They would frequently discuss
upon this matter of independence and other international news, and this would have a significant
influence into the writing of his persuasive essay. He spent hours daily discussing with his fellow
moderns. It is obvious that Paine incorporated the conversations and correspondence with his
compatriots into his essay. The long discussions that he had with Ben Franklin and his other friends
gave him good ideas and a good understanding of their current situation. These long discussions were

The Benefits Of Recidivism
With the American prison population reaching an alarming high of over 2 million adults incarcerated
in federal and state prisons, one must wonder whether prison is creating a solution to crime or building
upon a problem. As crime rates continue to trickle upwards, states are pushed against a wall paying a
hefty price to house criminals. Furthermore, there seems to be no overbearing improvement in the
mental and social well being of those housed, as recidivism continues to grow as much as two thirds
of released prisoners rearrested ( Recidivism ). While some believe in the power of punishment in
reducing crime, others offer a rehabilitative solution which would restore faith and humanity in the
system for inmates. Author Stuart Henry offers his argument that rehabilitation is the most proactive
solution to decreasing imprisonment rates; alternatively, author Francis Murphy claims that
punishment is the most logical and practical solution to crime, instilling a sense of strict morality.
Ellsworth Fersch s perspective aims to value both rehabilitation and punishment as effective
techniques to handle criminals; Graeme Wood proposes that instead of attempting to solve the crime
problem within prisons, technology should be utilized to save funds and restore humanity for
criminals.
Stuart Henry deduces that ultimately, recidivism and imprisonment rates can only be reduced through
the use of rehabilitative methods, and that punishment has failed to discourage crime. He highlights

Reparations in both Eastern and Western Europe were very prevalent and slowed down drastically by
1947 1948. Thanks to the poor election results, the USSR agreed to slow down its collection of

German reparations on a large scale also came to an end in 1948, largely thanks to the pleas of
Ulbricht and others who knew what damage they had done to the communist party s reputation. In
Poland and Czechoslovakia there had never been any official acknowledgment of reparations, and so
there was no official acknowledgment of their end (Applebaum, Iron Curtain, p.252). As shown in the

The Challenges Of Communication Problems In The Workplace
Communication is a beautiful thing, as we are able to convey and pass messages from a sender,
though a channel and to a receiver. When we interact in interactions we may face some challenges
when trying to understand a message or information. Another world that a lot of people are familiar
with is the workplace. The challenges here can be more challenging, that can lead to a blockage or no
communication. This can lead to miss meanings in messages. With communication you re going to
have problems and they will be suggesgested solutions to solving those problems. In this paper we
will go over some problems, their effect, and their solutions. Earlier in the paper I said world, what I
mean is problems may occur in the workplace and in personal interactions outside and inside the
workplace. Some examples of communication problems in this field are; First our new hires, these our

example would be, a company having their own company communication, with new employers not

This threat is the force of the model which would shape the competitive nature of the fashion and

The fashion and apparel industry is one of high profits and this is why it has attracted many
competitors. Since there is a slow growth increase within the industry this has increased the
competition and this has caused an increase in the amount of competitors especially quite a bit of
small entrants within the industry. New potential entrants wishing to enter the industry can have an
adverse effect on the existing competitors within the industry which cause issues with the competitive
side of the apparel industry.
The cost to enter the apparel and fashion industry does not require a large amount f capital by new
entrants; costs may end up being high due to the economies of scale. Hence why because of the
overpowering demand of products, the economies of scale cannot be attained by competitors looking
to enter the industry and they are most likely to face considerable

Writing Routine and Positive Messages
Learned how to strategize before writing a routine request up front is by making sure to pay attention
to the tone in which you are writing, assume that the audience will comply with what I am writing or

types of routine request which consists of asking for information and action, asking for a
recommendation, and lastly making claims and requesting adjustments. These components are crucial
in the business world and any profession in that matter. In this section I was introduced on how to

The Price Elasticity Of Demand
Price elasticity of demand is defined as a measure of the responsiveness or sensitivity of consumers to
changes in the price of a good or service (Thomas Maurice, 2012, pp. 199). Mathematically, the price
elasticity of demand is calculated by dividing the percentage change in quantity demanded by the
percentage change in price. Demand is said to be elastic whenever the absolute value of the percentage
change in quantity demanded exceeds the percentage change in price, which means the absolute value
of the elasticity would be greater than one. If the absolute value of the price elasticity of demand is
less than one, the demand is said to be inelastic, or less sensitive to the price change. There are various
factors that affect the price elasticity of products, in the following sections these factors will be
applied to the demand of desktop computers.
The first factor which is the most important determinant of price elasticity of demand is the
availability of substitutes (Thomas Maurice, 2012, pp. 205). For any product where quality substitutes
are readily available, the price elasticity of demand will be high. For example, if the price of desktop
computers was to rise by 20%, the quantity of desktop computers demanded would most likely
decrease by a greater percentage. This is because consumers could easily go out and purchase laptop
computer or tablets to accomplish tasks for which they needed the desktop computer. Likewise, if the

The Nacirema Culture
Anthropologists are familiar of many cultures that spread across the world. They are usually not
surprised when it comes to bizarre cultures such as the Nacirema. The Nacirema is a North American
group, although it suggests that they came from the East little is known about their origins.
What makes the Nacirema so interesting are their beliefs and rituals, within their culture it is believed
their body is ugly, and has a tendency to be weak and attract diseases. This belief has led them to have
a shrine within each household dedicated to reverse these beliefs they have about their body; inside a
shrine is a charm box, potions, and holy water. Each charm serves a purpose to an illness they are
trying to cure, and is not disposed of until it fulfills it s duty. The charm box is usually filled; if not

potions are decided by the medicine men, who receive gifts from their clients as payment. Holy water

Sperm Whale Encounter Rare, Exciting
Part of the reason the sperm whale encounter is so much of an adventure, is due to the fact that sperm
whales are on the endangered species list and considered vulnerable according to the International

Transformation in North America
A transformation is taking place in cities throughout North America, which are doing away with their
heteronormative practices of designing cities, and creating more gay spaces. This trend is largely
driven by a changing cultural perspective among the various cultural groups, as well as the general
trend towards acceptance for those who are gay. These gay spaces are usually confined to areas of the
community where there is typically a high concentration of gay people. The locations that contain
these queer spaces, are areas of reprieve for the gay community, and they should be accepted in
communities that have an identifiable neighbourhood consisting largely of gay people. In her
statement Today in most overtly gay spaces there is little to no visible gender queerness or any
indication that such variance is tolerated, Petra Doan is saying that while there are gay spaces that are
created for the queer community, these areas often do not contain a high number of gay people, and
they are in fact mostly inhabited by heterosexuals. The gendering of these spaces is meant to increase
the general acceptance of gay people and to provide a haven for them, but Doan believes these spaces
are still largely dominated by heterosexuals. The treatment of the urbex (or urban environment) in
what makes up the cities, it is important to consider that the geography has mirrored many of the
troubling characteristics of the urban exploration. People are curious about how the majority of

My First Activity Of The Food Pantry
My first activity that I was involved in with Catholic Social Services was the food pantry. As my
children progressed through high school, I knew certain classes or clubs were involved with
participating in food drives. Our house was one of the most targeted homes for quite some time as we
live directly across the street from St. Michael s Elementary School which is where some of the
organizations met. St. Cecilia s is also a school that requires wearing a uniform and, occasionally, the
kids could have a free jeans day if each student brought in so many items for the food pantry and my
children were no different than a lot of the others...they wanted to wear jeans so they would raid my
pantry to take food to school. I did not really give it much thought at the time when I was pulling food
from my pantry of how this small act of kindness would help others. I knew there was a need for the
food otherwise the food drive would not take place. I was so naïve in my thought process at that time.
The night that I helped sort food at the food pantry was a major eye opener. My role for the evening
was to help supervise high school students, who were sorting through the food as a community service
project. When I walked into the basement where the food sorting was done, I found several areas that
housed certain foods. In talking with the coordinator, I found that most of that foods had been donated
by various stores whether the store has a quota that is established for donations or if

Thyroidism Case Study Essay
During the review of this scenario it was concluded based on laboratory test that were ran that the
nurse was experiencing hyperthyroidism. The nurse came in due to abnormal symptoms that she was
experiencing, symptoms which are often associated with thyroid problems. This lead to the healthcare
providers running test to check her thyroid. Hyperthyroidism is when a person s thyroid gland
produces an excess amount of thyroid hormone than is necessary for the human s body. Since the
hormone is so prevalent in the body and is in control of the bodies energy, if there is a deficiency or
surplus of thyroid hormone it will vastly alter the way the body works. When checking for
hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism it is often know to run a serum T4 and serum T3 test. The T4 test
is a test that is ran to check the amount of thyroxine that is present in the person s blood. The T4 levels
have a normal range of 4.6 to 12 ug/dL. The nurse test results showed that her T4 was 15.6 ug/dL
which is above the normal range and a sign of hyperthyroidism. The next test ran was a T3 serum test,

the percussion writing is ideally suited for younger musicians. The piece begins in the percussion very
quietly. All three players should be in equal balance. It is crucial that the timpani be tuned precisely as
indicated. The main idea of the piece, first appearing at measure 12, dominates this section. Careful
attention to balance and intonation should be given to the low brass stating the idea. The call motif is
developed canonically at the tritone, first as a two part canon in tutti, then as a four part canon by
soloists. The soloists should be of equal balance. The legato theme is developed through several keys,

Ethical Dilemmas In Medical Care
Although we, as individuals, frequently find ourselves amidst ethical dilemmas as we navigate
through our lives every day, none of them are as controversial as those in the field of medicine.
Undoubtedly, resolving conflict among principles is a difficult task. In context of medicine, where
decisions have a direct correlation to life or death, the gravity of the decisions is magnified. Usually,
the source of the dilemma can be linked to conflict within the four main domains: respect for others,
beneficence, justice and non maleficence (Wesgate, 2017). In the presentation, Susan Wesgate gave
one authentic advice to help us navigate these situations of conflict go back to your moral code . Now,
I have not yet been in situations where I am deeply conflicted, but I do hope that when I am, that this
advice helps me make decisions.
During the presentation, we discussed problems in deciding what will benefit patients, resource
allocation, confidentiality, truth telling, the definition of death, informed consent and caring for the
terminally ill who may not be able to communicate their own decisions. Among these topics and more
which we discussed, I found the concept of faith in relation to medical care the most difficult to
navigate. Although I do see myself as being guided by deontology, or more specifically, Kantian
ethics, I cannot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

E Learning Systems Improve Employee Engagement
Today s way of training the workforce and providing employee engagement seems to be moving on
the high speed train of technology. With the consist demand of reducing expenditures and increasing
profit, businesses are needing to look at different ways to yield green on their bottom line. Many
businesses are looking at e learning systems to enhance employee training and engagement. E learning
generally refers to the use of computer network technology, primarily over an intranet or through the
Internet, to deliver information and instruction to individuals (Lee, Hsieh Chen, 2013). Does the high
cost of electronic learning or virtual classrooms really hold up to the hype? E learning, or online
learning, systems are becoming vital within the workforce today, and will continue to grow as
technology advances; as a result, its success depends on how employers and human resources staff
support their employees and the use of e learning systems. How a system is developed, implemented,
and accepted will impact the overall success of any transition to an e learning system, and also
whether or not learning goals are met by both the employer and employee.
Development of an e learning training system does not happen at the flip of a switch. Take for instance

Influence Of Dick Hebdige On The Role Of Culture
In the mid late 20th Century there was debate among intellectuals regarding the formative role of
culture as opposed to nature. At the time, Dick Hebdige, a cultural studies scholar, shifted his attention
to the study of subcultures. He believed that the subversive power of subcultures could be useful to
further understand misconceptions of natural, and supposedly immutable, aspects of society. In 1979,
he published his book Subculture: The Meaning of Style, exploring the subcultures styles as powerful
tools to resist the apparent natural culture imposed by the dominant culture. Inspired by Barthes, Levi
Strauss and Saussure, Hebdige argued that subcultures communicate to the social world through their
appearances and norms. According ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Social Suppliers: Exploring the Cultural Contours of the Performance and Image Enhancing Drug
(PIED) Market among Bodybuilders in the Netherlands and Belgium, a group of scholars explores the
reasons and motivations of individuals who comprise part of the bodybuilding subculture to get
involved with PIEDs (enhancing drugs). They find that the use of illicit drugs became the norm, not
the exception within the bodybuilding subculture: Within these bodybuilding communities a process
of cultural normalization (Pearson, 2001) has taken place regarding the use and supply of PIEDs (9.)
This means that bodybuilders desire to transform their body and to be outside of what has been
considered normal by society often goes beyond their biological capacity. The use of illicit enhancing
drugs thus become a vehicle for many members of this community to achieve their goals of massive
muscular gain. Thus, Voortman s argument that body modification comes from psychological desire to
create an identity and facilitate self expression is helpful for us to understand these motivations.
Bodybuilders willingness to risk their health and break the law in order to transform their bodies and

Speeding Up N Means Algorithm By Gpus
Speeding up k means algorithm by GPUs Krishnali Penta, University of Florida Abstract This paper
gives a brief description of the above titled paper. Data clustering is one of the most widely used
method for various applications. And parallelizing these time consuming applications is of quite
importance. This paper brings out an additional feature of handling input data of various dimensions
and thus accordingly handle it. I. INTRODUCTION In the world of data clustering, K means is one of
the most extensively used algorithms. And the application area is vast ranging from economics,
bioinformatics, astronomy, image processing and so on. All these applications deal with huge chunks
of input data sets and parallelizing the application is one of the best ways to save the computation
time. Graphics processing units (GPU) is one of the many hardware used for parallelizing such
applications. Developed initially for different types of graphics applications, GPU has now found its
way in various general application processing as well. The existing GPU implementation of the
algorithms like UV_kmeans have showcased a speedup of forty to sixty in comparison with other dual
core or multi core implementations. The programming model used in this paper is CUDA (Compute
Unified Device Architecture). The basic organization of the architecture is shown in fig 1. To state
briefly, modern day GPUs contain about hundreds of processor cores each working on the exact same

  • 2. Benito Mussolini Fatal Fascist Empire Essay Mistrust in Mussolini s Fatal Fascist Empire After the Italian unification (1858 1870) and World War One (1914 1918) Italy craved the great power reputation that other European nations had. Italy was in complete disarray: unemployment, peasant rebellions, and political tension; the one thing Italians agreed on was their need for a new government. Benito Mussolini (1883 1945), or Il Duce, was originally a poor revolutionary boy who rose through the ranks, creating a totalitarian government. After the March to Rome (October 1922), Mussolini was called by the king to discuss his ideas for a new government, one Mussolini called Fascism. This somewhat new form of secular government supported extreme nationalism while it strictly disencouraged democracy and voice of opinion. As an Italian, one had to unconsciously give up natural rights in order to be protected by the state. Mussolini was infatuated with ideas of Italy becoming a new Roman Empire; he gained support by promising Italians that they would be powerful like their ancestors. Although Fascism and Mussolini s ideals may have seemed favorable for Italy, his inability to successfully change Italy s problems led him to cover the truth with propaganda, which ultimately could not save him from his demise. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1925 Mussolini administered La Battaglia del Grano or The Battle for Wheat , an economic policy stating Italy would only import grain with extremely high tariffs, while growing mass amounts of wheat themselves (Cohen 70). Unfortunately this also meant the price of bread had to be raised substantially high, which inevitably would not please Mussolini s people (Economic Policy, Britannica). The need for propaganda around grain rose because Mussolini needed people to continue supporting him and Fascism, even though bread was more expensive and people had to give large portions of their grain to the ... • 3. Relationship Between Societies Of Today And The Environment An interdisciplinary program presented is an investigation of the relationship between societies of today and the environment they/we live in. In my focus particularly are societies of the Westernized parts of the world. Their activities within, attitudes towards, values regarding and comprehensiveness of the complexity of the environment they live and operate in. Consequently, my personal goal is to gain a deep knowledge of the interconnectedness of human activity and alterations it does to the environment. Equally, I also aim to understand how attitudes and values (towards the environment) are passed from generations to generations. After successfully accomplishing studies, my goal is to collaborate with the representatives of the younger generations to and promote awareness of their deportment on the more global scale. Academically, my strategy is to pursue Individualized Major in Environment and Society and to successfully accomplish Minor in Psychology withal. Environment and Society as a traditional Major is offered at the University of California, Berkley and at the University of Minnesota. To enhance the experience of the Individual Major, during the Junior and Senior years at Emmanuel College, I aspire to attend Environmental Forum provided every spring by Colleges of Fenway. As a capstone experience I foresee myself undergoing an internship in a locally based Education Outreach Program2. On this matter, I would like to accentuate that driven by my interest I am ... • 4. Why Stereotypes Are Important Essay There are many places where jokes are appreciated. At a friend s house, a comedy club, or a family gathering, jokes are common, and even expected. However, there are many places where jokes should not be told. Places such as a classroom, a serious dinner, and a business meeting, are not good settings for jokes and laughter. I think it is important to learn when and where to tell jokes, not to always seek attention, and know what jokes are appropriate for your setting. Jokes can be very helpful. After a great loss, people might watch a comedy in the hopes of bringing their spirits up or forgetting about their pain for just a few seconds. On the other hand, in class when teachers are trying to get work done, one should not make jokes to get a few laughs. It is important to focus on the task at hand, and not joke around until the time is right. Sometimes when people wisecrack, they throw ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Topics such as death and killing at schools is very sensitive, and no jokes should be made about this subject. In recent years many kids have threatened to kill their classmates, and some of them followed through with it. This is why when someone makes a fool of themselves and says something humorous about the subject, they should be taken seriously and given the fitting punishment. It is important to remember where you are and if anyone would be offended before you make a joke. Jokes are often misinterpreted and can offend people. The saying Beauty is in the eye of beholder is similar with humor. A joke isn t funny unless the audience finds it funny. There are places where comedy is normal and it is okay to joke around. • 5. The Effects Of Media On Children With Disabilities Essay Mass media allows many people in society to understand different problems and receive news around the world. In the United States, mass media plays a big role in portraying stereotypes and creating stigmas, especially for people with disabilities. It can be very difficult for people who do not have a disability to portray the feelings of someone with a disability or understand how to create media that does not contain stereotypes of people with disabilities. When people with disabilities are included in the making of media content, they are able to debate the societal issues related to them that rarely make the mainstream press (Haller, 2010, p.117). This means that they can bring up problems that they have personally experienced and help educate society on how those problems can be resolved. News about disabilities should be included in the media more often in order to help able bodied people become aware of disabilities and avoid the stereotypes that have been created. If a person with a disability helps make a story about someone with a disability, they can make sure the story explains the necessary issue and disregards any stigmas. Beth Haller describes in her book Representing Disabilities in an Ableist World: Essays on Mass Media that historically, articles about people with disabilities rarely made it into the news, and, when the articles were written, that they were misrepresentative and stigmatizing (2010, p. 119). In addition, an individual with disability can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Bishop Spong And The Bible Bishop Spong is certainly not like most church leaders, he views religion and religious beliefs as they should apply to the current generation and incorporates the Bible into society not as fundamental law but by addressing the overall message of God I choose to discuss Bishops Spongs ideas with someone not in this class and I choose to confer on this subject matter with my live in boyfriend Justin. I felt that discussion on these topics with him would be beneficial not only in the completion of my course work but also contribute to the growth and understanding in our relationship of our beliefs regarding the bible and religion, divorce, and homosexuality. Throughout this course I enjoyed many of the topics and discussed them very openly with my spouse because unlike myself he is religious but did not grow up in a home in which church was attended regularly. In discussing and viewing the video on Bishop Spong and the Bible as the truth I came to the conclusion that people agree with the Bishop Spongs statements that the Bible is used most times to support injustice and prejudice with in the world. Justin has always told me since we met that while he believes in God he feels the Bible is just a history book and can be used as a guide for humankind but cannot be applied to the present day. Initially I must say I was a little offended but upon taking this course we can agree that many stories in the Bible tend to be conflicting. In many ways this is a reflection upon society ... • 7. The Notion Of Purchasing Power Parity A. Discuss the notion of purchasing power parity (PPP) (10 marks) 300 words Purchasing power parity (PPP) was developed as the theory of exchange rate determination, which was the basis for the relationship between product price levels and exchange rates and is now primarily used to compare living standards across countries (CFA, 2015). The foundation version of PPP was based on the assumption that identical goods should trade at the same price across countries when valued in terms of a common currency. This is known as the law of one price and derived from the no arbitrage assumption (Dornbush, 1985; Taylor and Taylor, 2004; CFA, 2015). It means that a bundle of goods and services would cost the same in two countries when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Absolute PPP is the extended version of the law of one price with all goods and services consumed in different countries instead of one single good (CFA, 2015). Absolute PPP is expressed as ( ). The absolute PPP asserts that the current spot rate is determined by the ratio of national price levels, although like the one price theory struggles in actual application (Alba and Papell, 2007; Alessandria, and Kaboski, 2011). An example of the average price for a Big Mac was $4.79 in January 2015 in the US whereas at market exchange rate in China it was only $2.77, showing that China yuan is undervalued compared to US dollar. This has reduced the Absolute PPP s usefulness as the theory of exchange rate determination. On the other hand, the Relative and Ex Ante PPP implies that exchanged rate between two countries is affected by their inflation rates and expressed as (CFA, 2015). In the long run, the relative PPP predicts that countries with a low inflation rate have currency s that tend to appreciate and conversely with countries that have a high inflation rate; and the % change in exchange rate will equal the % difference in national inflation rates (Baffes, 1991; Taylor and Taylor, 2004). Although shot term, nominal exchange rates could be volatile but over the long run will tend to gravitate toward PPP equilibrium values (Yotopoulos and Sawada, 2006; Papell and Prodan, 2006). Hence PPP could be seen as a vale ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sandy City is one of the more populous areas of Salt Lake City and the 5th largest city in Utah. It is a large, mostly suburban area with a population of about 94,000 people. It extends from I 215 to the north, E 12300 to the south, W 10600 S to the west, and Little Cottonwood Canyon Road to the east. Sandy has 4 quadrants: Alta Canyon, Bell Cayon, Crescent, and Sandy. This large earthquake could destroy many homes and neighborhoods and will cost the city a substantial amount of money to repair all of the damages. Sandy experienced its biggest growth in 1970 1980, when the population increased 711%[5]. [pic] Here is a projection for future population trends in Sandy. It is expected that population growth will expand steadily. By 2060, the population in Sandy would increase to over 145,000. • 10. All Animals Are Equal By Essay Argumentative Essay: All Animals are Equal In his book all animals are equal, Singer argues that human beings should extend to non human species the same equality of consideration that is extended to fellow human beings. He based his argument on the fact that past liberation movements aimed at condemning discriminations based on gender and sex had been declared absurd at their onset, but had later on yielded fruits. This discrimination against animals, he argues, is similar to these past discriminations. For this reason, he wants the human species to consider non human animals as having rights just as humans have. In his opinion, the only criterion of moral importance that succeeds in including human beings and excluding all non humans, is their membership in the homo sapiens species category, and using this membership as a criterion of moral importance, is completely arbitrary. In other words Singer believes that we should attach importance to the interests of individuals without regard to their species (Daly, 1997). A human being should not be considered superior to a cow just because one is a cow and the other is a dog. Contrary to this argument however, Singer s view is not very radical since human beings and non human animals have different interests, and so the treatment of both species the same will only mean giving fair amounts of different treatment. Singer gives examples of the Black Liberation movements and the fight for women s rights (Moore Parker, 2007). If ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lifestyle Declaration in the Armed Services In 1993 President Bill Clinton signed a law that set the policy of don t ask, don t tell, don t pursue, and don t harass when dealing with homosexuals serving in the Armed Services. The policy was a compromise to allow homosexuals to legally serve in the military as long as they did not declare their lifestyle or engage in conduct that was in violation of military good order and discipline. Supporters viewed the law as a step forward in achieving equal rights for homosexuals. Opponents remained concerned that the policy could jeopardize morale and unit effectiveness. The Joint Chiefs, including the chairman, had all came out against the president on gays serving in the military (Gates 440). Over time the military was able to adapt to the new policy and restore force readiness. In 2010 the Don t Ask, Don t Tell policy was repealed and homosexuals were given the opportunity to openly serve in the military. The Joint Chiefs once again objected and questioned the timing of the change. Many believe the repeal was politically motivated and a bad idea that would add additional disruption to an already strained fighting force. • 12. The Colonization Of North America Essay During the sixteenth century European pilgrims migrated across the Atlantic Ocean to settle in North America. North America had just been introduced to the Western Civilization. The America s were home to the indigenous people, that were made up of several tribes that were called Indians by the early settlers. Together the Indians and settlers began to thrive. Growth and development in the new world was made possible by the abundant amount of natural resources. These early settlers had a major influence on the joining of these two cultures. Settlers started to inhabit and populate along the east coast and moving north and south. They began organising into colonies and called themselves colonist. Colonist enjoyed freedoms and opportunities that they never had. Owning land was never possible in the colonist previous civilization. Colonist were also free to decide how they wanted to make a living unlike the peasant life that many of them had known before. One of the biggest reasons the colonist were so enthusiastic because they got to worship how they wanted. They were finally able to practice and believe in God to their best understanding. For centuries very few people have had this right, to worship as they desire. One can see why the colonist lived with so much passion and pride in this new life style. During the 1700s there began to be uneasiness and frustration amongst the colonist. Much of the frustration grew because of the unfair dominion that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction The matter of personal identity as well as its determents has become a matter of concern among philosophers. Numerous questions have been raised as to what it does to be the person someone is throughout the lifetime. For this reason, personal identity is a philosophical encounter with the ultimate questions in regards to own existence. The questions include, who we are? Is there existence after demise? A final table was developed to calculate the target cost index for each functional group. The target cost index was calculated by dividing each important index (from table 4) with target cost (from table 2). For example, the importance index for Chassis is .33 and the target cost is 20% so the target cost index is 1.65. Written in his essay Age of Reason, he said, I saw, or at least I thought I saw, a vast scene opening itself to the world in the affairs of America; and it appeared to me, that unless the Americans changed the plan they were then pursuing, with respect to the government of England, and declared themselves independent, they would not only involve themselves in a multiplicity of new difficulties, but shut out the prospect that was then offering itself to mankind through their means, (44). In this passage of The Age of Reason, he stated his motive to write Common Sense. His motive to write Common Sense was for his patriots and the country as a whole. The Benefits Of Recidivism With the American prison population reaching an alarming high of over 2 million adults incarcerated in federal and state prisons, one must wonder whether prison is creating a solution to crime or building upon a problem. As crime rates continue to trickle upwards, states are pushed against a wall paying a hefty price to house criminals. Furthermore, there seems to be no overbearing improvement in the mental and social well being of those housed, as recidivism continues to grow as much as two thirds of released prisoners rearrested ( Recidivism ). While some believe in the power of punishment in reducing crime, others offer a rehabilitative solution which would restore faith and humanity in the system for inmates. Author Stuart Henry offers his argument that rehabilitation is the most proactive solution to decreasing imprisonment rates; alternatively, author Francis Murphy claims that punishment is the most logical and practical solution to crime, instilling a sense of strict morality. Ellsworth Fersch s perspective aims to value both rehabilitation and punishment as effective techniques to handle criminals; Graeme Wood proposes that instead of attempting to solve the crime problem within prisons, technology should be utilized to save funds and restore humanity for criminals. Stuart Henry deduces that ultimately, recidivism and imprisonment rates can only be reduced through the use of rehabilitative methods, and that punishment has failed to discourage crime. • 27. The Price Elasticity Of Demand Price elasticity of demand is defined as a measure of the responsiveness or sensitivity of consumers to changes in the price of a good or service (Thomas Maurice, 2012, pp. 199). Mathematically, the price elasticity of demand is calculated by dividing the percentage change in quantity demanded by the percentage change in price. Demand is said to be elastic whenever the absolute value of the percentage change in quantity demanded exceeds the percentage change in price, which means the absolute value of the elasticity would be greater than one. If the absolute value of the price elasticity of demand is less than one, the demand is said to be inelastic, or less sensitive to the price change. There are various factors that affect the price elasticity of products, in the following sections these factors will be applied to the demand of desktop computers. The first factor which is the most important determinant of price elasticity of demand is the availability of substitutes (Thomas Maurice, 2012, pp. 205). For any product where quality substitutes are readily available, the price elasticity of demand will be high. For example, if the price of desktop computers was to rise by 20%, the quantity of desktop computers demanded would most likely decrease by a greater percentage. This is because consumers could easily go out and purchase laptop computer or tablets to accomplish tasks for which they needed the desktop computer. Likewise, if the price of desktop computer ... Transformation in North America A transformation is taking place in cities throughout North America, which are doing away with their heteronormative practices of designing cities, and creating more gay spaces. This trend is largely driven by a changing cultural perspective among the various cultural groups, as well as the general trend towards acceptance for those who are gay. These gay spaces are usually confined to areas of the community where there is typically a high concentration of gay people. The locations that contain these queer spaces, are areas of reprieve for the gay community, and they should be accepted in communities that have an identifiable neighbourhood consisting largely of gay people. In her statement Today in most overtly gay spaces there is little to no visible gender queerness or any indication that such variance is tolerated, Petra Doan is saying that while there are gay spaces that are created for the queer community, these areas often do not contain a high number of gay people, and they are in fact mostly inhabited by heterosexuals. The gendering of these spaces is meant to increase the general acceptance of gay people and to provide a haven for them, but Doan believes these spaces are still largely dominated by heterosexuals. St. Cecilia s is also a school that requires wearing a uniform and, occasionally, the kids could have a free jeans day if each student brought in so many items for the food pantry and my children were no different than a lot of the others...they wanted to wear jeans so they would raid my pantry to take food to school. I did not really give it much thought at the time when I was pulling food from my pantry of how this small act of kindness would help others. I knew there was a need for the food otherwise the food drive would not take place. I was so naïve in my thought process at that time. The night that I helped sort food at the food pantry was a major eye opener. My role for the evening was to help supervise high school students, who were sorting through the food as a community service project. When I walked into the basement where the food sorting was done, I found several areas that housed certain foods. In talking with the coordinator, I found that most of that foods had been donated by various stores whether the store has a quota that is established for donations or if ... • 34. Thyroidism Case Study Essay During the review of this scenario it was concluded based on laboratory test that were ran that the nurse was experiencing hyperthyroidism. The nurse came in due to abnormal symptoms that she was experiencing, symptoms which are often associated with thyroid problems. This lead to the healthcare providers running test to check her thyroid. Hyperthyroidism is when a person s thyroid gland produces an excess amount of thyroid hormone than is necessary for the human s body. Since the hormone is so prevalent in the body and is in control of the bodies energy, if there is a deficiency or surplus of thyroid hormone it will vastly alter the way the body works. When checking for hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism it is often know to run a serum T4 and serum T3 test. The T4 test is a test that is ran to check the amount of thyroxine that is present in the person s blood. The T4 levels have a normal range of 4.6 to 12 ug/dL. The nurse test results showed that her T4 was 15.6 ug/dL which is above the normal range and a sign of hyperthyroidism. The next test ran was a T3 serum test, this test measures the amount of triiodothyronine in the blood. The serum T3 levels have a normal range of 80 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One cause is a condition called diffuse toxic goiter (graves disease), an autoimmune disease where the body manipulates the thyroid gland into overproducing thyroid hormones even if excess already exist. Individuals with Graves disease have slow growth of the thyroid gland by the use of immunoglobulin to neutralize proteins such as, thyroid peroxides, thyroglobulin and thyroid stimulating hormone receptor. Graves disease is the first most common cause of hyperthyroidism (Parangi Phitayakorn, 2011). Another cause is referred to as subacute thyroiditis. This occurs when an excess amount of thyroid hormone is discharged because of an infection of the thyroid or certain medications being consumed (Parangi Phitayakorn, ... The orchestration is beautifully conceived and the percussion writing is ideally suited for younger musicians. The piece begins in the percussion very quietly. All three players should be in equal balance. It is crucial that the timpani be tuned precisely as indicated. The main idea of the piece, first appearing at measure 12, dominates this section. Careful attention to balance and intonation should be given to the low brass stating the idea. The call motif is developed canonically at the tritone, first as a two part canon in tutti, then as a four part canon by soloists. The soloists should be of equal balance. The legato theme is developed through several keys, and the entire section builds gradually from piano to fortissimo. The main idea is recalled at measures 83 87 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Ethical Dilemmas In Medical Care Although we, as individuals, frequently find ourselves amidst ethical dilemmas as we navigate through our lives every day, none of them are as controversial as those in the field of medicine. Undoubtedly, resolving conflict among principles is a difficult task. In context of medicine, where decisions have a direct correlation to life or death, the gravity of the decisions is magnified. Usually, the source of the dilemma can be linked to conflict within the four main domains: respect for others, beneficence, justice and non maleficence (Wesgate, 2017). In the presentation, Susan Wesgate gave one authentic advice to help us navigate these situations of conflict go back to your moral code . Now, I have not yet been in situations where I am deeply conflicted, but I do hope that when I am, that this advice helps me make decisions. During the presentation, we discussed problems in deciding what will benefit patients, resource allocation, confidentiality, truth telling, the definition of death, informed consent and caring for the terminally ill who may not be able to communicate their own decisions. Among these topics and more which we discussed, I found the concept of faith in relation to medical care the most difficult to navigate. Although I do see myself as being guided by deontology, or more specifically, Kantian ethics, I cannot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my perspective, the mother possibly saw it as her duty to prevent her son from going to hell and similarly, the judge possibly saw it as their duty to do what is necessary to prevent the death of the boy. Inarguably, most of us do draw a line at killing kids. However, when both parties are passionate about their view and a strong tension develops, how do we decide what is right? Personally, drawing from my moral code, my intentions would align with the judge. But I wonder, what if I was the same religion as Daniel and his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. E Learning Systems Improve Employee Engagement Today s way of training the workforce and providing employee engagement seems to be moving on the high speed train of technology. With the consist demand of reducing expenditures and increasing profit, businesses are needing to look at different ways to yield green on their bottom line. Many businesses are looking at e learning systems to enhance employee training and engagement. E learning generally refers to the use of computer network technology, primarily over an intranet or through the Internet, to deliver information and instruction to individuals (Lee, Hsieh Chen, 2013). Does the high cost of electronic learning or virtual classrooms really hold up to the hype? E learning, or online learning, systems are becoming vital within the workforce today, and will continue to grow as technology advances; as a result, its success depends on how employers and human resources staff support their employees and the use of e learning systems. How a system is developed, implemented, and accepted will impact the overall success of any transition to an e learning system, and also whether or not learning goals are met by both the employer and employee. Development of an e learning training system does not happen at the flip of a switch. Take for instance Laura Hackett of MillerCoors University (Harris, 2015). Hackett was a veteran employee and vice president at Miller Brewing Company when her CEO approached her with the instruction to, not only lead, but to create a new department ... • 38. Influence Of Dick Hebdige On The Role Of Culture In the mid late 20th Century there was debate among intellectuals regarding the formative role of culture as opposed to nature. At the time, Dick Hebdige, a cultural studies scholar, shifted his attention to the study of subcultures. He believed that the subversive power of subcultures could be useful to further understand misconceptions of natural, and supposedly immutable, aspects of society. In 1979, he published his book Subculture: The Meaning of Style, exploring the subcultures styles as powerful tools to resist the apparent natural culture imposed by the dominant culture. Inspired by Barthes, Levi Strauss and Saussure, Hebdige argued that subcultures communicate to the social world through their appearances and norms. According ... In Social Suppliers: Exploring the Cultural Contours of the Performance and Image Enhancing Drug (PIED) Market among Bodybuilders in the Netherlands and Belgium, a group of scholars explores the reasons and motivations of individuals who comprise part of the bodybuilding subculture to get involved with PIEDs (enhancing drugs). They find that the use of illicit drugs became the norm, not the exception within the bodybuilding subculture: Within these bodybuilding communities a process of cultural normalization (Pearson, 2001) has taken place regarding the use and supply of PIEDs (9.) This means that bodybuilders desire to transform their body and to be outside of what has been considered normal by society often goes beyond their biological capacity. The use of illicit enhancing drugs thus become a vehicle for many members of this community to achieve their goals of massive muscular gain. Thus, Voortman s argument that body modification comes from psychological desire to create an identity and facilitate self expression is helpful for us to understand these motivations. Bodybuilders willingness to risk their health and break the law in order to transform their bodies and create a new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Speeding Up N Means Algorithm By Gpus Speeding up k means algorithm by GPUs Krishnali Penta, University of Florida Abstract This paper gives a brief description of the above titled paper. Data clustering is one of the most widely used method for various applications. And parallelizing these time consuming applications is of quite importance. This paper brings out an additional feature of handling input data of various dimensions and thus accordingly handle it. I. INTRODUCTION In the world of data clustering, K means is one of the most extensively used algorithms. And the application area is vast ranging from economics, bioinformatics, astronomy, image processing and so on. All these applications deal with huge chunks of input data sets and parallelizing the application is one of the best ways to save the computation time. Graphics processing units (GPU) is one of the many hardware used for parallelizing such applications. Developed initially for different types of graphics applications, GPU has now found its way in various general application processing as well. The existing GPU implementation of the algorithms like UV_kmeans have showcased a speedup of forty to sixty in comparison with other dual core or multi core implementations. The programming model used in this paper is CUDA (Compute Unified Device Architecture). The basic organization of the architecture is shown in fig 1. To state briefly, modern day GPUs contain about hundreds of processor cores each working on the exact same instruction but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
