Kayla Carstens completed their foundation portfolio in media studies over several months. They began by planning preliminary tasks like researching magazine structures and target audiences. Kayla then produced pages for their magazine on Adobe Photoshop including a cover, contents page, and editorial. After gaining experience with Photoshop, Kayla created a logbook to document their research and plans for an R&B music magazine called "Replay". They took photos, designed pages, and gathered feedback to complete the magazine and portfolio.

Summer Holidays
Monday 8th September In this week I was introduced to AS media, the unit that we were
studying and the coursework standards that
Monday 15th September This week I began planning my preliminary tasks; this included
looking up different magazines, and the way in which they
structured their magazine. After this I began drawing some ideas
out, so that I could have an idea of what I wanted my final
product to look like in the end.
Also in this week I started my evaluation tasks that I knew I could
complete, this included analysing my magazine cover and making

Monday 22rd September This week I did some research into my target audience to help
me with what I should include in my magazine, in order to attract
my target audience and gain a wide target audience.
Monday 29th September I then began the actual production process of my preliminary
task and main task, which I started on Adobe Photoshop CS4 so I
then began to create my front cover of my main magazine.
Monday 6th October I also placed some of the images on my front cover. I then also
placed an image on my contents page. In this week I also to write
out some of the features in my magazine on the contents page
Monday 13th October I wrote up my editorial in word, and then transferred it over to
Photoshop.
Monday 20st October Lastly I included a picture of myself for my editorial. I checked
over the 2 pages to make sure that I had included all the codes
and conventions.
Half Term
Monday 3th November
Monday 10th November After exploring with Photoshop and became familiarized with the
technology I then started some of my logbook. This was to show
the research I have done, and to present what I want to include in
my magazine.
Monday 17th November I continued with my logbook, this then allowed me to show all the
primary and secondary research I had done, it also allowed me to

Monday 24th November I had started plan when I was going to take my main pictures and
when that was taken I uploaded some of them to my music
magazine.
Monday 1nd December I created my 3 pages and with and before my I started I created a
template to make sure I had a structurein place.
Monday 8th December I started to include my coverlines to my front cover and this
allowed me to show off the type of music I listen to because of the
people I included in my cover lines.
Monday 15th December I made sure I included some institution logos such as Facebook
and Twitter to at least one of my pages so that people could
familiarize themselves with ‘Replay’ magazine.
Christmas Holidays
Monday 5th January I placed all of my images on my magazine pages
Monday 12th January I made sure all my pages were completed and improvements
have been made
Monday 19th January I wrote out what I would say in my editorial, and made sure all
my three pages were all competed. Made sure I was consistent
throughout,for example sticking to the same colour scheme.
Monday 9th February Made different corrections to my logbook, and made sure my
evaluation was completed
Monday 16th February I then started to gather some audience feedback. By getting my
peers to give me there personal feedback.

4. Monday 23 February I did a step-by-step task in my log book to show all three of my
magazine pages. I took screen grabs of my original piece and then
my final piece I compared the different imaged and reflected on
how I’ve improved.
Monday 2nd March Made sure both my log book and evaluation was completed and
then updated my blog to make sure everything had been loaded
on it.
