This document outlines Joseph Ellison's schedule and progress for his Foundation Portfolio in Media Studies unit. Over the course of several months, he conducted research on existing music magazines, created preliminary drafts, and produced his own music magazine. He gathered feedback and made revisions along the way. Joseph changed aspects of his magazine, such as the name and layout. Finally, he completed all tasks including an evaluation with audience feedback and uploaded his work to a blog.

Summer Holidays
Monday 8th September In this week I was introduced to AS media
Monday 15th September I then began to create my hand drawn drafts for the preliminary task.
Monday 22rd September Next, I did some researched into my target audience to help me with
what to include in my magazine to attract them
Monday 29th September After doing some research tasks on looking on what makes a magazine
attractive for its consumers, I began making preparations for my
preliminary task.
Monday 6th October By this stage, I had done the prep and started my preliminary task.
Monday 13th October At this point I was in the middle of the preliminary task, trying to
complete it before half term.

2. Monday 20st October By now I had completed the preliminary task and I was receiving
feedback in order to make changes during the half term break.
Half Term
Monday 3th November During the half term break, I made my changes to my preliminary and
using the experience and skills gained from preparing and them
performing the preliminary task, I felt that I was ready for the main
task which was the production of the music magazine.
Monday 10th November Before I began the main task, I started working on my Logbook. I had
completed the preliminary part of the Logbook and began to work on
the part which required existing media product research.
Monday 17th November By this point I had enough evidence of research on existing media
product and I was ready to add it to my logbook.
I found a lot of interest in XXL magazine, I did more research on this
existing media product because they shared similar code and
conventions I wanted to incorporate into my music magazine.
Monday 24th November At this stage I had my existing media product that I would use for
inspiration and I began to research XXL magazine, I found some
common factors, such as the magazine’s publisher, chief in editor and
first issue date.
Monday 1nd December After doing a detailed analysis of XXL Magazine, I then began to do
some research on other existing media products, this was so I could
gain other perspectives and so I could see if any other existing media
products could attract my attention like XXL and if I could find similar
code and conventions that I could use in my own production process.
In the end I found Vibe magazine, there was a very interesting concept

3. behind there magazine and I found a lot of interest in one of their
issues which featured the rapper Drake. I analysed this issue and I was
able to gain some inspiration and attain some code and conventions
that I could use in my music magazine.
Monday 8th December Carrying on where I left off, I did some more research on Vibe
magazine, finding out similar results like the research done for XXL,
such as the publisher of Vibe magazine, first issue etc.
Monday 15th December At this point I was late to begin the main task, due to the delay I wasn’t
able to hand in my work to receive feedback however, I was able to
make a start on my first page which was the front cover.
I was able to take pictures I would use for the front cover and test
different pictures to show which one which is best suited.
Christmas Holidays
Monday 5th January After the Christmas holidays I began where I left off. I continued to
work on my front cover and using the existing product of the XXL
magazine, I found it easy to insert the required code and conventions.
I changed the idea of my magazine and this slowed down my
production process, I changed the name of the magazine down to the
look, I switched everything up to give it a more professional look.
Monday 12th January By this point, I completed the front cover and I started to work on the
contents page of my magazine. I did some further research looking for
inspiration on an appropriate style and design for my music magazine.
Again using XXL as inspiration, I found a contents page that appealed
to me and used similar code and conventions to make my contents
page seem more professional.

4. I Added another contents page, which will devote to my editorial. In
other words I made a editorial page which contained my editorial
message which addresses my readers and also contact info on how to
contact me the editor.
Monday 19th January Next I completed the contents page and then moved onto the double
page spread. I worked on the double page spread a lot and spent a lot
of time altering the pages. I changed the idea behind the double page
spread around 4 times, depending on where to place the pictures, the
questions I would ask in the interview and how I would lay it out.
Later on I completed the double page spread, using code and
conventions from a real existing media product.
After I completed my pages of the music magazine, I handed it in for
feedback.
Monday 9th February After receiving feedback, I made changes to my magazine to ensure it
was at its best standard. When I completed my pages I then began
filling in the step-by-step evidence of the preliminary task, showing
how the front cover and contents page were created in different
stages.
Monday 16th February Next, I started to work on the Evaluation, I answered the 7 questions
and then started to talk about my photography planning.
How I managed the images and how also why, I chose the images that
I did. After I had to analyse my music magazine pages, I had to
annotate the code and conventions I included into my music
magazine.

5. Monday 23 February To complete my Evaluation I needed audience feedback on my
magazine. I needed to know what were the strengths and weaknesses
of my magazine, whether it appeals to my target audience and would
they buy my magazine at the price it is set. I did this via voice notes
and managed to upload it onto sound cloud to later embed it into my
blog.
Monday 2nd March Finally, I completed all tasks at hand and I was ready to upload and
embed them into my blog. This was the final task which I managed to
complete.
