Rhiya Heir completed a foundation portfolio in media studies where she created a magazine focused on R&B music over the course of several months. She began by researching existing magazines as inspiration and learning Photoshop. Over time, she developed her masthead, cover pages, contents page, and double page spread, adding images, cover lines, and institution logos. She also created a logbook to document her research and design process and gathered feedback from peers on her magazine pages. In the end, she reflected on how her work improved from her original to final designs.

Week Beginning Work Completed
Summer Holidays Started to research my magazines of inspiration.
I focused on looking at R&B magazines in particular because this
is what I take an interest in therefore I knew the magazine I was
going to create would be based on R&B
Monday 8th September As a starter we all had to start using Photoshop and creating a
school magazine. This is worth 10 marks this helped me become
familiarized with Photoshop and to understand all the different
types of tools.
Monday 15th September I researched school magazines, so I could see what they included
and to see how they structured their magazines. This helped me

Monday 22rd September I started of creating my masthead and including images such as
the St.Pauls logo I stuck to the school colour scheme.
Monday 29th September I continued with the school magazine, and started to insert cover
lines at this stage it was starting to look more like a magazine as I
was including the convents. Such as the barcode, price and issue
date.
Monday 6th October I then placed my pictures onto my front cover; I then also placed
another image on my contents page. I started to write out was
being featured in my magazine on my contents page.
Monday 13th October I wrote up my editorial in word, and then transferred it over to
Photoshop.
Monday 20st October Lastly I included a picture of myself for my editorial. I checked
over the 2 pages to make sure that I had included all the codes
and convention’s.
Half Term
Monday 3th November
Monday 10th November After exploring with Photoshop and become familiarized with the
technology, I then started my logbook. This was to show the
research I have done, and to present what I want to include in my
magazine.
Monday 17th November Continued with my logbook, this allowed me to show all the
primary and secondary research I had done, also allowed me to

3. explain why I chose to focus on R&B.
Monday 24th November I had started to take pictures for my music magazine. I was
taught how to use the ‘quick selection tool’ this helped me erase
the background of my image. This was a fast tool and helped me
to place my image.
Monday 1nd December Created my front cover, contents page and double page spread.
With all of my pages I created a template to make sure I had a
structure in place.
Monday 8th December I started to add my cover lines to my front cover, this allowed me
to show off my positivity as all my cover lines were to do with
popular and successful stories.
Monday 15th December Across all 3 of my pages I had to make sure I had included
institution logos such as Facebook, twitter logos this allowed the
readers to become familiar with the ‘BEATZ’ magazine.
Christmas Holidays
Monday 5th January Placed all of my images across all of my magazine pages.
Monday 12th January Made sure all my pages were completed and improvements had
been made.
Monday 19th January Wrote out my editorial letter. Made sure my front cover page,
contents page and double page spread was all completed. Made
sure I was being consistent throughout. For example using
institution logos and the same colors.
Monday 9th February Made corrections to my logbook, made sure my evaluation was

Monday 16th February I was starting to gather my audience feedback. By getting my
peers to give me personal feedback. I recorded various friends
talking and analyzing my 3 magazine pages.
Monday 23 February I did a step-by-step task in my log book to show all three of my
magazine pages. I took screen grabs of my original piece and then
my final piece I compared the different imaged and reflected oh
how I’ve improved.
Monday 2nd March Made sure my logbook and evaluation was completed. And
updated my blog to make sure everything had been loaded on it.
