Jack Sharpling has been working on their Foundation Portfolio in Media Studies. Over the course of several months, they completed preliminary tasks including audience research, learning design software skills, and draft versions of a magazine cover and contents page. For the main tasks, Jack created a magazine cover featuring a masthead, barcode, issue details, and stories. They also produced a contents page with subheadings, stories, and contact details. Most recently, Jack began working on a double page article spread, adding text and considering layout and space filling ideas.

Monday 1st September
Monday 8th September I have started my planning and research.
I have learnt about target audience theory (Hartley, Katz,
Maslow)
Monday 15th September Created my online blog.
I also played around on WordPress where my online blog is on,
and played around to get use to how to edit and change my page.
I have started my audience profile, and I now need to create my
survey/questionnaire. I have finished creating my questionnaire.

2. Monday 22nd September I have been learning to use Photoshop.
I have started my preliminary task; I have put in an appropriate
bar code and social media icons.
Monday 29th September I completed my hand drawn draft.
Monday 6th October I haven added conventions to my preliminary task such as
masthead, barcode, issue number & date and web address.
I have completed the preliminary front cover.
I am now making progress on my masthead font styles.
Monday 13th October I have learnt the conventions that make up a contents page.
I have started my hand drawn draft for my preliminary contents
page. I have started the preliminary contents page task, and I
have placed in guide line for what I want and where.
Monday 20th October I have put in my masthead and contents page title. I have also put
in my sub-headings boxes.
I have almost finished my preliminary contents page. I have also
created my editorial.
Half Term
Monday 3rd November I have started to complete corrections to my preliminary
contents page.
I have included required conventions to my hand drawn drafts.
Monday 10th November I have made corrections to most planning and research tasks, and
I have made one other blog past today.
Monday 17th November I have started my main task and bar cade and masthead are in

3. place. I have included a US$ price on my front cover to show it is
an international magazine too, I have also included a producer
logo within the area the logo is placed.
Monday 24th November I have included a lot of conventions to my main task front cover;
all I need are covering stories, my main story and a main photo.
Monday 1st December In this lesson I have completed the main story and a sub-line of
that main story. I have also changed the font in some conventions
on my front cover to the same font as my masthead to keep brand
recognition. I need to gather a main photo and add some cover
lines before my deadline. I am very close to finishing my front
cover; I just need to add one more cover story and I have finished
my front cover.
Monday 8th December Today I have started my main task contents page. I have put in
guidelines to where I want my conventions. I have also copied
over my signature for my editorial. Lastly I have included my web
address at the corner of the page along with the page number.
Today I have included my masthead onto my contents page, I
have also included my page number and web links at the bottom
of my page.
Monday 15th December I have included sub headings, sub stories and sub lines, haven’t
finished them all.
Christmas Holidays
Monday 5th January I have proof read my editorial, created more sub-stories and I

4. have also started to include my contact details. I am still in the
process of completing my sub lines and sub stories.
Monday 12th January I am in the process of completing my contents page which is very
nearly finished. I came back in my own time to completely finish
my main contents page. All I have to do now is take and collect
images.
Monday 19th January My double page spread task has started. I have now placed my
text for the double page spread making sure I know how I want
my layout to be. I now know how much space I have left to fill out
and I will now use my time to think of ideas on how to fill up
those spaces. I have now learnt how to create a document of
InDesign, and I am using those skills effectively.
Monday 26th January In this lesson I have successfully added a pull quote, I have also
edited to that text looks like it is warping around the pull quote
itself.
