Robert Graves’ I, Claudius
Robert Graves I, Claudius Capturing a Strange Moment in History
Tiberius reign over the Roman Empire stretched the longest of any emperor during Claudius lifetime.
This may be a good reason why Robert Graves, in his historical novel published in 1934, I, Claudius
devoted more than a third of it to the reign of Tiberius. I, Claudius , told through the eyes of the half
wit Claudius, records the history of the first Imperial family at Rome, including the reigns of
Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, and even Claudius himself. Livia, Augustus wife and Tiberius mother,
played a crucial role throughout the reign of Augustus and Tiberius by eliminating all possible heirs
other than her son to the throne of the emperor. By the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He once said, Let them hate me, so long as they obey me (Graves 38). By this time Livia had already
eliminated Marcellus, Augustus first preference as his successor.
Tiberius could not be totally blamed for his fortunes. As Claudius states:
He was in an unhappy position, forced against his will to be continually in the public eye, now as
general in some frontier campaign, now as Consul at Rome, now as special commissioner to the
provinces; when all he wanted was a long rest and privacy....Moreover, with the dignity of the
Imperial family to maintain and Livia continually spying on him, he had to be very careful of his
private morals. He had few friends, being, as I think I have said, of a suspicious, jealous, reserved and
melancholy temperament, and those rather hangers on than friends, whom he treated with the cynical
contempt that they deserved. (66)
After Augustus died, however, Tiberius became emperor. The Senate, knowing very well that to even
attempt to return to the republican form of government would be a futile effort, one by one voted him
all of the honors that Augustus had received. But Tiberius never used the name Augustus, except when
writing letters to foreign kings. He feared his mother Livia, partially because Livia constantly
reminded him that if her crimes were uncovered,

Positive And Negative Impacts Of Daily Moods
Hypothesis In their study, Yao Zheng, Robert Plomin, and Sophie von Stumm measured the positive
and negative affect, or essentially one s mood over time; the three professors postulated that daily
moods can be affected by both nature and nurture, with a degree of separation between positive and
negative. To test their hypothesis, they conducted twin studies through a daily, 10 item online
questionnaire over the course of one month (30 days). Twins were chosen through an earlier Twins
Early Development Study (TEDS) conducted by Plomin and others, who had previously affirmed the
status of the twins and had sufficient prior data on the sample subjects. The results, after some
correction, were separated based on sex and degree of relation ... Show more content on

The official start of the study took place over a 1 week period when participants were instructed to
begin daily surveying; any who failed to do so during the time limit was excluded from any data
analysis. Those whose first language was any other than English, and those with significant medical
conditions preventing reliable reporting were excluded as well. For 40 days twins completed the
online survey after school, a time period considered to be from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m., at about the same
time each day. As a final precaution against spurious findings, only those who answered the survey for
30+ days with genuine answers were considered in the final analyses. 15,000 total questionnaires were
gathered from these efforts (Zheng et al, 2016, 1612 1613). Positive and negative affects results were
quarantined for computation, which began with simple mean and standard deviation calculations for
the sample. The results were used to create a score for specific means and deviations for each
participant. A standard twin model ACE , which decompose[s] the variance of a trait into additive
genetic, shared environmental and non shared environmental components, was the basis of most
following correlational measurements (Purcell, 2007). The program OpenMx was used to model:
structural equations at 95 percent confidence intervals, goodness of fit at negative 2 times the log

The Electronic Medical Record ( Emr ) Is It Really Secure
Educational to the hospital RN s and LVN s teaching how to be safe with EMR s. The Electronic
Medical Record (EMR) is it really secured? The Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is a secure source
of information that give clinicians real time access to a variety of patient health information, such as
patient history, billing or insurance data, allergies, immunizations, medications, orders, laboratory
tests, diagnostic results, and images. Such technology has enormous potential to enhance the
efficiency and effectiveness of health care through decreased medical errors, increased preventative
care and enhanced detection and treatment (Fiato, K. A., 2012). With the rapid development of
information technology, EMR is likely to have medical records disclosure issues. Some international
medical records leakage happens recently. In USA 2011, there is a leakage about hospitalized
Hawkeye football players. In Philippines 2009, president Arroyo is leaked information on her breast
medical checkup. In Taiwan, artist Selina, due to severe burns in 2010, came news that physicians of
other subjects are free to browse the medical records used his position in the medical records
privilege. Such well known facts reflect that EMR document divulgation is overflowing and can cause
serious damages. Thus the management security of EMR documents catches highly attention in these
few years and it induces the development of teaching nurses on how to provide safe care using EMR s.

All I Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten By Robert...
All I really need to know I learned in kindergarten
All I really need to know I learned in kindergarten is a short essay by Robert Fulghum explaining in
detail everything we learned in kindergarten and how it is all we really need to know in life. The text
by Robert Fulghum explains the human flaw of getting so caught up in finding meaning and purpose
to life, that we do not recognize that all we need for a successful life has already been taught to us, in
kindergarten. This meaning is demonstrated throughout the text by the use of, imagery, tone, and
structure.
Kindergarten, a time of happiness, and peaceful frolicking fun. While for many kindergarten is long in
the past, the most crucial images and memories from the time will never ... Show more content on

The essay is written, for the majority of it, in such a way that it is simple enough for a kindergartener
to read and understand. Important text is bolded in the very first paragraph as the author want us to
know right away what he is trying to tell us. In kindergarten we were exposed to lists, so instead of
writing out everything we learned in a long confusing paragraph, Robert Fulghum creates us a list. It
is almost as though he wants us to feel like we are kindergarteners again, as we read text written in a
childish manner even full of grammar mistakes like learn some and think some and draw and paint
and sing and dance and play and work every day some . However, as we get to the part of the essay
explaining how we can apply these simple lessons into our adult lives, the grammar becomes formal
and uses fancy words such as extrapolate to give the text a new meaning, a more professional mature
meaning. To connect these two very different aspects of our lives, the childish one, and the adult one,
the author creatively manipulates us into believing what he is saying. Without this detailed use of
structure the text would not seem as convincing nor as pertinent. If the text explaining kindergarten
morals, was written formally it would not seem as important as to us, it may seem below our adult
ways of life . Contrary to that if the part explaining how these rules could help our families, friends,

Diabetes Is A Group Of Metabolic Diseases
Diabetes in African American Populations
Melanie Barber, MSN Student

Richmond, KY
November 21, 2016
According to the American Diabetes Association, diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases
characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. The
chronic hyperglycemia associated with diabetes results in failure of various organs including eyes,
kidneys, heart, and blood vessels (American Diabetes Association, 2016). Possible complications of
diabetes include heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, leg amputation, vision loss, nerve damage, and
premature death (World Health Organization, 2016).
The databases for the Centers for Disease Control and Protection, World Health Organization,
National Institute of Health, National Vital Statistics Survey, and Kentucky Data Warehouse and
Kentucky Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System were reviewed for datasets and information for
diabetes mellitus.
Globally, an estimated 422 million adults were living with diabetes in 2014. The prevalence of
diabetes has nearly doubled since 1980, rising from 4.7% to 8.5% in adult population. In the past ten
years, diabetes prevalence has risen faster in low and middle income countries in comparison to high
income countries. Diabetes is responsible for 1.5 million deaths in 2012 (World Health Organization,
2016).

Morphine
The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) ID of morphine is (5α,6α) 7,8
didehydro 4,5 epoxy 17 methylmorphinan 3,6 diol. The general formula for Morphine is C17H19NO3
and it is recognized as a benzylisoquinoline alkaloid with two additional rings attached to complete
the overall structure.
As shown in Figure 2, morphine is a five member ring system that acts as a backbone for the structure.
This includes a benzene ring (A), two cyclohexane rings (B and C), the piperidine ring (D), and
tetrahydrofuran ring (E). It seems that due this type of configuration, the compound proved to be
slightly flexible because of the phenantherene ring system (A,B, and C)[6]. Furthermore, several
functional groups exist in the morphine structural configuration. For instance, the ether linkage
between C4 and C5, the 3o amine group adjacent to C16, hydroxyl groups located on C3 (ph3nolic
alcohol) and C6 (allylic alcohol), and the unsaturated double bond between C7 and C8. Shown below,
in Figure 3, are the primary functional groups in morphine: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In addition, it was determined that morphine consists five chiral centers[6] which involves the C5, C6,
C9, C13, and C14 sites.
Consider, each chiral structure has its own pharmacological profile, and therefore, posses different
properties and physiological effects on the human body. Further examination and extensive studies
show that the pharmaceutical active structure is ( ) Morphine[6]. The essential difference between
these two structures is the placement of the piperidine ring (D) between the C9 or C10 and C12 and
C13. For example, if ring D is attached on C9 and C13, it will yield
( ) Morphine. On the other hand, if the piperidine ring is attached on C10 and C12, it will be detected

John s Quest For Identity In The Awakening
The plot takes place within the time span of twenty four hours, beginning with the protagonist, John s
awakening on his fourteenth birthday to his religious conversion that evening. The story woven
around a sensitive young boy, whose quest is for identity, begins on the morning of his fourteenth
birthday, when he realizes that he should do something different from what his father expects him to
do because he has been told that he should become a preacher when he grew up, following his father s
footstep. This is obvious from the very first line of the novel: Everyone had always said that John
would be a preacher when he grew up, just like his father. It had been said so often that John, without

136). Gabriel makes it his mission to use his elevated status to preach redemption to the wayward. He
distresses that these sinners had all turned aside, and gone out in to the wilderness, to fall down before
idols of gold and silver, and wood and stone, false gods that could not heal them (Baldwin, 136).
Ironically, Gabriel responds to this by establishing himself as the unassailable representation of
righteousness, working in many ways to make a false god of himself. This desire to serve as a savior
influences Gabriel s preaching career and continues to influence his personal life, even after the death
of first wife Deborah. Gabriel s clearest memories of Elizabeth recall how one night after he had
preached, the young unwed mother had walked this long aisle to the altar, to repent before God her sin
(Baldwin, 149). After pursuing the much younger woman, he proposes marriage, confessing to her
that he believes they would be fulfilling the mandate of the Lord. Continuing the image of himself as
the rescuer of fallen women, his proposal is thoroughly framed within the language of redemption. He
suggests to Elizabeth: maybe I can keep you from making ... some of my mistakes, bless the
Lord...maybe I can help keep your foot from stumbling ... again ... girl

Black Americans And The Black Freedom Struggle
Many have thought that the end of the civil war was also the end of the suppression against Black
Americans. However, real freedom hasn t been present to them. Discriminations against Black
Americans were transformed and still exist in other aspects. The life of a Black American was planned
before he or she was born, not much freedom in their hands. Black American experience disadvantage
and discrimination in many different institutions that all prove the existence of Neocolonialism. From
housing to education, formal and informal social controls prevented them from equality and freedom.
Moreover, Black youth was forced to be in the pipeline of incarceration from school, because of the
lack of resources and attention to them. In this ongoing fight for Black Freedom, many influential
Black leaders stepped up. One of them is one of the most important figures in the Black freedom
struggle history, Ella Baker. This essay will first, explain key issues on Black Americans freedom in
housing and school to prison pipeline, then identify Ella Baker s theory in the Black Freedom
Struggle, and finally define what freedom means. It s the American dream to own a house with
beautiful white fences and yard and live joyfully with families, but not many Black Americans can
live up to that dream. The hate and prejudice against Black American didn t reduce much since the end
of the civil war. I m not prejudice, but I d burn this building down before I d sell it to any damned
nigger.

The Issue Of Equal Pay For Equal Work
The issue of equal pay for equal work performed by women; is a political hot button in the 2016
presidential campaign. So much so that the stump speeches, for both former secretary of state Hillary
Clinton, and senator, Bernie Sanders, always include this issue. Since the 1960s, congress and many
researchers have tested this theory. In order to affirm the validity of this message, we will perform a
five step hypothesis test. In the book, Statistical Techniques in Business Economics, authors D. Lind,
W. Marchal S. Wathen (2012), describe how to conduct this test of hypothesis. We seek to determine if
two sampled populations, females and males, have the same mean (arithmetic average) wages. The
process begins with only the raw data from a 2005 wages database. As a result, the authors further
explain: The method described does not require that we know the standard deviations of the
populations (2012). For that reason, we assume the sampled populations are equal, but, the standard
deviations are unknown. Then, we use the t test as the test statistic, with 30 degrees of freedom.
Problem Statement In an online article entitled The Simple Truth About the Gender Pay Gap ,
published on the AAUW website, author Catherine Hill, PhD, had this to say: Did you know that in

were paid, a gap of 21 percent? The gap has narrowed since the 1970s, due largely to women s

Ralph Nader’s Life Lesson in The Seventeen Traditions
Ralph Nader s book, The Seventeen Traditions, discusses several traditions, seventeen in total, which
the author learned from his parents, siblings, and other individuals in the community and draws certain
inspiring life lessons for the current society. The book is genially human and full of sensory
chronicles. Through the key traditions outlined in the book, Nader looks back at his Lebanese
background and childhood experiences that directly shaped his worldview. This review analyses some
of the most significant traditions in the book such as family table, independent thinking, health, and
business. These key traditions will also be vital in discussing the strengths and weaknesses of the
book.
Nader s book has really achieved its principal purpose, which is to educate the society on some of the
values and traditions that are vital in shaping a person s life. Through his key seventeen traditions, the
author has succeeded in creating a modern day fable on how one can grow from a child to a
responsible and successful adult. Nader s tradition of the family table proves to be the most significant
base in a child s education. The author reveals that the family table provided an ideal place in which
his parents taught him and his siblings respect and manners. To the author, most of the historical and
cultural topics together with various proverbs were discussed at the family table. This tradition has
some connections with my childhood experiences. Just like in the author s case, my

The Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is one of the most centralized countries in the Middle East. Known for
its abundant oil supply, desert land, and strict adherence to Islam, Saudi Arabia is a culture that is very
different from those of Western nations. Analyzing the national and business culture can prepare a
Westerner for working in Saudi Arabia and help them avoid intercultural conflict.
In 1932, King Abd al Aziz established the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Though he passed away in 1953,
the monarchy continued through his sons. The Kingdom is located in the Middle East, with the
Persian Gulf to the East and the Red Sea to the West. At 2,149,690 km2 it is the 13th biggest country
in the world. Its location provides it with strong shipping capabilities particularly for oil through use
of the Gulf and the Suez Canal. The land is mostly uninhabited with dry sandy deserts, plateaus and
mountains which are subject to extreme hot weather. Possessing much of the world s oil reserves, the
country s culture has been shaped by this industry. The country also has large natural gas reserves, and
deposits of copper, gold, and iron.
The population consists of 90% Arabs and 10% Afro Asians. Its population is approximately 27.3

Leadership Is The Art Of Influencing Other Individual...
According to Sullivan and Garland (2010) leadership entails guiding others to realize, a particular goal
using interpersonal skills. Weihrich and Koontz (2005) argue that leadership is the art of influencing
others to readily and actively endeavour towards meeting goals set by the team. As noted by Spector

$0.9/shares. As stated in Salomon , debt is therefore the company s responsibility, and the corporate

can fire Hilary. If there is a separate employment contract between Hilary and Carborundum,
Carborundum would breach the contract and pay for damages. Conclusion: Shareholders may vote to

Loves And Shell Are Names Of State Large Gas Station...
Loves and Shell are names of state wide gas station companies. Everyone who has ever drove a
vehicle has stopped at a gas station. I would say any business that has gas pumps could be considered
a gas station. Most if not all gas stations have drinks, snacks, cigarettes, lottery tickets, and bathrooms.
Many people use gas stations, while on vacation and road trips. People do not only stop to get gas at
these stations but also to use the stations facilities and get something to eat. For instance, while on
vacation if someone was on a tight schedule, the person could save time by stopping at a gas station
for fuel and something to eat. Rather than stopping to get gas then having to stop again at a restaurant
for food. Anyone who plans on using

Multicultural Competencies
The purpose of the research article was to examine the competencies of school counselors when
working with the multicultural and sexual orientation of their students. Schools can be unsafe due to
bullying and victimization for students labeled as LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bi Sexual, Transgender and
Queer), as they are more likely to be a target than heterosexual students. They experience varying
levels of being sexually harassed, and endure being emotionally and physically abused. Due to the

Essay about French Baroque 1600c.e.-1750c.e.
French Baroque 1600 1750
Europe in the 1600s was at the end of Counter Reformation, and as the political and cultural shifts
took place, we begin to see art, particularly in France, influenced more and more, by the ruling
monarchy. The transition from Mannerism into Baroque is not clear, but eventually the arts started to
adopt a new look. And feel. Paintings started to become more exuberant, dynamic and ornamented.
The scale of work produced during this time increased dramatically. Where Mannerism marked a
departure from classical and realistic norms, Baroque becomes a return to these norms, but with an
emotional undertow and visual tension. However, through the Baroque pursuit of eloquence, it
abandoned the precious and contorted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The light is always obscured by another element in the painting, which gives it a more dramatic, more
human feel, with greater depth. The emotional effect of this is very intimate and human. The
duplicitous nature of shadow and light in a La Tour painting could be seen as a metaphor for the good
and bad contained within human nature. It is also vague enough to be open to multiple interpretations.
In any interpretation this duality is almost given more importance than the subject matter.
The personality of Nicolas Poussin was contrary to La Tour, though both were very rational and
humanistic. Poussin sought to enter into the person of his subject, to become immersed in
psychological analysis. He combines his love of virtue and his love of landscape by placing tragic
figures in richly interesting and complexly constructed, heroic landscapes. He produced some of the
most demanding, yet satisfying landscape paintings in western culture. He believed passionately that
the disposition of the painting as a whole could be constructed to covey a mood or emotion. He also
had a unique combination of pagan and Christian themes, often giving a poetic treatment to subjects
from classic mythology and ancient history. Poussin was a classicist for whom the aesthetic values of
antiquity represented not only a formal ideal, but also a moral standard, a way conceiving a form that
cannot be separated from the good and true.

Soil Pollution Involving The Accumulation Of Excess Heavy...
Soil pollution involving the accumulation of excess heavy metals is toxic to humans and other
mammalian life.1 The effect on animals can ac cumulate in the food chains and instigate public health
concerns in the future. Normally, the exposure due to food chain transfer is chronic, however, there are
rare acute cases where direct ingestion of such pollutants is poisonous.2 Given the importance of the
situation, the determination of toxic heavy metals in the environment is essential.
The primary source of soil pollution can be at tributed to the history of industrial/commercial activi
ties in certain areas.4 We have chosen to analyze the soil at Northwestern University to highlight
human factors and contributions to this pollution. Given the history of the Northwestern, there are
many areas of the campus that differ in properties such as the age of buildings, the proximity to bodies
of water, areas of construction, and high traffic. For use in our study, the campus was divided into
areas A, B, C, D, E, F (Figure 1). Since Northwestern has been regularly undergoing construction in
the past century, we pre dicted that the areas with older buildings would have different metal
concentrations when compared with areas with more recent architecture. Due to the use of lead based
paint in old construction, we expect that there should be a higher concentration of metals such as lead
found near older buildings such as University Hall or Locy Hall in area E in comparison to area F with

Analysis Of The Movie Hundred Dollar Baby
Men generally have the gender role to be the care takers, the fighters, and ultimately the manliest man
possible, while women have been thought to be weak and helpless at the sight of danger. In the 2006
episode Hundred Dollar Baby of the TV show It s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the male stereotype
promotes males as fighters, but also disproves the general stereotype when some men run away from a
fight. Also, the female stereotype is challenged when a woman wants to fight her own battles instead
of a man doing it for her. Stereotypically, males typically assume they are better fighters than women
and while fighting, males seem drunk and tend to show off their bodies by having their shirts off.
Right off of the bat, the male ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This goes against the stereotypical male because males generally stay and fight, especially when
saving a woman is involved.
The next day, Mac and Dennis learn of an underground fighting ring and convince Charlie that he is
the strongest man they know and he would be a great fighter. Once again, the show goes against the
male stereotype by having Dennis and Mac make Charlie fight in their place so they can make money
betting. The guys begin to practice fighting as long as they are explicitly drunk, suggesting that sober
males would lose in a fight or would not fight at all. This proposes that they do not believe they could
win a fight or be in one if they were sober, so all three of them need to be drunk to make it a great
fight. Mac, Dennis, and Charlie all agree that the best way to be a high quality fighter and trainer is to
be intoxicated while in action. The male characters also emphasize that a male must have his shirt off
to show off his muscular body while fighting, just like Rocky and Terminator because they never wore
a shirt when they were training. Charlotte Jiourosek had said that as the athletic body type grew larger,
so did the build of stars like Rocky and Terminator. Just like Rocky and Terminator, today s men look

There is a cruel contribution to the animal overpopulation of companion pets, specially the ones living

Main Roles Of Housekeeping
THE ROLE THAT HOUSEKEEPING PLAYS IN THE OPERATIONS AND MANAGEMENT OF

If we need to review the role that housekeeping plays in the operations and management of hotel.
Firstly we have to define what is it Housekeeping in general. House Keeping is a heart of the hotel
management industry. Hotels, motels, and inns around the world can succeed without ballrooms,
meeting rooms, swimming pools, or even restaurants. But the one thing every successful lodging
establishment must have, regardless of it s size, location, or industry segment, is clean rooms. Room

The Virtues of Apathy Essay
The Virtues of Apathy
I just don t think I can continue to live in a place that embraces and nurtures apathy as if it was virtue.
Morgan Freeman speaks these words in the movie Se7en after declaring that he is going to quit his job
as a detective. His character sees crimes of hate, aggression and murder every day, and he also
observes the public s reaction to them. People turn a blind eye; they no longer care. What has
happened to society? Why has what used to be considered incredibly shocking dissolved into what is
considered an everyday and usual activity? Apathy has become the common response of American
society towards what should be considered shocking because these activities have become unshocking

Crying and vomiting, love making and dying, and beauty and sickness are paired together and stressed
in his novel Blue of Noon. Bataille s main character is almost a complete opposite to what is
considered a normal human being. The character loves what is evil and debaucherous. He even finds
the dead more sexually attractive than the living. Bataille uses this estranged character to perform
actions that should be everyday; however, the nature of the character performing the actions
unfamiliarizes them. A perfect example of this is when the character is sitting down for an evening
meal at a pleasant restaurant. Instead of finishing the meal and his conversation with the woman
sitting next to him, the character violently stabs the woman in the leg with his fork (Bataille 39). Such
an action is completely out of place, yet it happens as though it is ordinary and everyday.
Looking back from a modern perspective, Highmore states that Surrealism s attention to everyday life
stands the everyday on its head (Highmore 49), meaning that the Surrealists accomplished their task of
upsetting the normal and confusing the ordinary. However, Highmore also notes the second
accomplishment of Surrealism when he says, There is a danger that Surrealism s attempt to make the

The Positive And Negative Aspects Of Social Media
As defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary, social media is: forms of electronic communication
(such as websites for social networking and microblogging) through which users create online
communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (Merriam Webster s
online dictionary 2017). Social media is commonly used in today s society. Platforms like Facebook,
Instagram, and Twitter have taken over, building a community with many active users. Social media is
especially popular among adolescents. (Radovic et al.). Further, such sites as these allow for an easy
way to communicate and stay updated on the latest trends. However, it comes with many problems as
well. With all the time that is spent on social media, it can make people less concentrated on the real
world , and the access to an abundance of information can lead to self esteem issues. Therefore, social
media has more negative aspects than positive for the younger generations in particular. As mentioned
previously Social media does indeed have positive aspects, with the main one being easy
communication with the vast majority of the world. Moreover, Social media platforms make it so
simple to access unlimited information and to keep in touch with many more people than was thought
ever possible. Even though online interactions do differ from seeing someone in person, social media
platforms allow an easy form of interaction (Noor Al Deen and Hendricks 12). Communicating

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, written by John Boyne, displays the importance of never letting a

teaching tool for the Holocaust, because he displays the overall theme, which is millions of Jews being
put into concentration camps, and killed. He adds details of how Jewish people were treated horribly,
which is what happened in the Holocaust. However what John Boyne fails to do is elaborate on the

The people of Islam have customs and courtesies that differ from western culture, and some ways they

PROZAC (FLUOXETINE) AND SUICIDE
What are the risks?
Since the early 20th century millions of people have suffered with some form of depression, which is
categorized as either Major Depression, Clinical Depression or Major Depressive Disorder. However
it s categorized, the symptoms include severe sadness, inability to cope with day to day issues, and a
general lack of interest in family, friends and/or life in general. Over the years that astounding number
has been both a boon to the economy and a ray of hope for sufferers in the form of antidepressants.
One of the first medications introduced as a treatment in the United States in 1998, was Prozac
(Fluoxetine), which is an SSRIs or Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor, which works to balance out the
feelings of pleasure and emotions, which is why it was dubbed the Happy Pill . It was widely touted to
be the solution for the masses, however for many who suffered with severe depression, it was not such
a ray of hope. Prozac soon became associated with aggression and suicidal tendencies by the media.
This paper will support the evidence that Prozac, while very effective for mild depressive symptoms is
linked to aggression and suicide in both adult and minors who suffer from major depression.

Research Paper Outline
1. Introduction
Sexual addiction has become rapidly recognized as a significant social problem with similarities better
recognized to drug addiction and alcohol or compulsive gambling. sexual addicts refers to individuals
who engage in persistent, as well as, escalating patterns of sexual behaviour acted out regardless of the
increasingly negative impact to the self and others. To begin with copulation or coitus, sexual
intercourse is the physical union between a man and woman, for reproduction, sexual pleasure or both.
The act involves a high level of physical intimacy and contributes immensely to human bonding. This
is because, sex is associated with emotional and physical pleasure therefore creating a connection
between the people involved. However, some people tend to overdo the act of sex to a point that they
become dependent on it leading to a sexual addiction. This paper aims at discussing sexual addiction,
its causes, effects and characteristics.
II. Literature review
According to Carnes (15) sexual addiction is a clinical condition referred to in the medical spheres as
progressive intimacy disorder. The addiction involves spending long periods preoccupied with sexual
thoughts and behaviors all geared towards achieving a desired sexual effect. In the United States
alone, more than thirty million people are in the category of those who suffer from the condition.

Essay about Cardiac Catheterization
Cardiac catheterization is often referred to as coronary angiography or a coronary angiogram. It is a
radiographic procedure that is used to look at and visualize the heart and the coronary arteries. During
a cardiac catheterization it is possible for the cardiologist performing the procedure to see how
effectively blood is flowing through the coronary arteries. In addition, this procedure allows the
cardiologists to see how blood is moving through the chambers of the heart and how effective the
heart valves are functioning. A cardiac catheterization can also allow for the visualization of the

The stent will be placed where it can be expanded to hold the artery open. Some stents are designed to
simply keep the artery held open. Other stents used are drug eluting stents. These stents are coated

artherectomy. This is a procedure that has a cardiologist using a cutting blade that spins rapidly or a
laser beam to cut away or burn away plaque that is blocking a branch of the coronary arteries. To
perform a cardiac catheterization the patient is brought to the cardiac catheterization lab. These
procedures are performed by specially trained cardiologists, nurses and radiologic technologists. The
procedure is performed on a specialized table with fluoroscopy equipment, cardiac monitoring
equipment, and the use of computerized technology to assist in data and image collection and analysis.
To perform a cardiac catheterization the cardiologist will insert a sheath, or a short tube usually into
the femoral artery. A long very thin catheter will then be fed through the sheath and guided through the
arteries until it is in the heart and coronary arteries. The physician uses fluoroscopy equipment to
guide the catheter into the coronary arteries. To allow for clear viewing of the coronary arteries,
contrast material is injected into the catheter. As the contrast material flows through the heart

Pricing vs. Costing
To determine the price for the product or service, the firm must understand the costs for running the
business. If the price is not enough to recover costs, the cash flow will be negative and the business
will fail.
Costs include: o Property and equipment leases o Loan repayments o Inventory o Utilities o Financing
costs o Salaries/wages/commissions. o Markdowns o Shortages o Damaged merchandise o Employee
discounts o Desired profit
Profit should be added to the list of costs and treated as a fixed cost. Nobody runs a business just to
break even.
Pricing as a Component of the Marketing Mix
Generally, marketing mix denotes the four Ps of marketing:
Product
Price
Place (distribution)
Promotion Before a product is developed, a firm needs to come up with a marketing strategy. This
involves selecting the target market and product positioning. Usually, there has to be a balance
between product quality and price. This way, price plays an important role in the marketing mix.
Pricing will always be determined by these tradeoffs

The Doctrine Of Free Trade
Historically, Republican Presidents have often been considered to be wholeheartedly dedicated to the
doctrine of free trade, with the common consensus being that Republican Presidents have championed
laissez faire foreign commerce since the end of the Second World War (Batra, 1996, p1).
Consequently the idea of protectionism under Republican governments has too often been reflexively
denounced by US trade analysts.
The purpose of this section is to explicate how even under supposedly neoliberal Republicans such as
Reagan, Bush JR and Nixon, domestic pressures have dictated that US Governments compromise their
commitment to free trade. Such domestic pressures essentially stem from industries that are relatively
uncompetitive; in that they tend to struggle to compete with foreign manufacturers and politically
sensitive; in that they have substantial voting power and representation in Congress. This juxtaposition
of a lack of competitiveness and political sensitivity has on a number of occasions proven to be
sufficient in forcing committed free traders into invoking protectionist policies.
The ultimate consequence of these pressures for both the Republicans and Obama has been defensive
protectionism , which as previously mentioned provides ad hoc import relief for specific industries on
a case by case basis. This section will thus tackle two key myths with regards to US trade politics:
firstly the notion that Obama s protectionism represents a new trade policy in the US

Ness The Knife of Never Letting Go. The big discovery of society s true nature was reminiscent of the
Matrix. The caste system is like Divergent. The Institute sorts its students into houses like Harry
Potter. The cutthroat competitions among the Golds is very like The Hunger Games. And the nature of
the training is described as a year long deadly game of capture the flag, in which the houses (all
named after Roman gods) fight one another while the proctors float about them and watch from a
levitating mountain called Olympus. That, too, seemed oddly

Depression Among International Missionaries
Running Head: DEPRESSION AMONG MISSIONARIES Depression Among International
Missionaries Jonathan E. Sullivan Liberty University Abstract Missionaries have a unique calling
accompanied by unique challenges over the course of their service. As these individuals and families
face these challenges, depression can be an enemy that hinders and even stops the good work they
perform. While most of the time a professional counselor can be seen in the United States to help with
depression, a therapist may not be so readily available in remote parts of the world. This paper looks
at the factors that may lead to depression for those on the mission field and some preventative
measures that may be taken to avoid major depression. The well being ... Show more content on

Still, Carey pressed on recognizing that a price must be paid for their success . However, the reality is
that for the missionary today on the foreign field, when persecution, loneliness, despair, frustration,
and temptation manifest themselves it can take its toll physically and psychologically. In Luke 14:28,
the Lord instructs in the biblical text to count the cost of an endeavor before you undertake it. This not
only should be done financially, but emotionally, physically, and psychologically as well. It is
recognized that wherever God calls He will give that individual and family what they need holistically
to accomplish the task at hand. At the same time, a call to serve is a call to prepare oneself for service
and it should be recognized that there are always consequences to our decisions. This preparation time
includes not only a seminary education and experience in ministry, but psychological stability is
paramount for these missionaries. Many sending agencies have a thorough psychological screening
process in place and some do not. Hall amp; Sweatman (2002) recognize that psychological
assessment is only one piece of a larger assessment strategy for the missionary candidate. Along with
the psychological issues to be tested are the assessment of doctrinal unity with the sending agency, a
unity in the vision of the mission work, and proven leadership just to name a few areas. This same
research by Hall amp; Sweatman (2002) also understood that the

Essay Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
Mary Godwin was born on August 30, 1797, in London, England, of high literary stock. Her mom,
Mary Wollstonecraft, was the author of A Vindication of the Rights of Woman. She died giving birth
to Mary, placing her daughter in the care of her husband, William Godwin. Mary s upbringing in this
rarefied atmosphere exposed her at an early age to ideas of innovation and revelation, and it created
useful connections for her to such as Lord Byron. Another of the literary types that Mary met as an
adolescent was Percy Bysshe Shelley, an inspiring young poet. They had instant chemistry, and, in
1814, they ran away with each other for a tour of many countries in Europe: France, Switzerland, and
Germany Mary escaping her rather oppressive family and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The story of Frankenstein begins with a series of letters written by a man named Walton to his sister
about his exciting and treacherous journey through the snowy tundra. As he is on his journey he spots
two dark figures running in the distance. He pays it no mind and continues on his voyage. A few days
later he come across a man he looks beaten and tired. The man s name is victor Frankenstein. After he
helps nurse Frankenstein back to health, victor begins to tell Walton a story about the reason he has
been running through the snow after a dark figure.
Frankenstein begins his story by telling Walton about the life he had growing up. He tells him about
how he was the only biological child of his parent even though they adopted many more, incldung
Elizabeth whom victors mothers secretly wanted him to marry. He also tells Walton about his natural
born inclination to science and the wonders of life, which would turn out to be his ultimate down fall.
He tells about how just before he left home for university, elizebeth fell ill and was nursed back to
health by his mother. However, while she was nursing Elizabeth back to health she herself contracted
the disease and despite her families efforts to save her, she passed away. Victor immediately left for
university. While Frankenstein was away he

Shaun In The Film This Is England
In the film This is England the little main protagonist, Shaun, has experience vast changes over the
course of the movie. In the beginning, Shaun appears to be a sweet little boy that had a hard time
fitting in at his school and for this reason he was bullied from older boys. Like most 11 year old kids
who wore jumpers with animals on, I got bullied by the older kids at school. So I looked for my own
tribe to join. (Meadows, 2007) In fact, Shaun meets Woody who introduced him to his gang and gains
new friends. Referring back to Meadows words, Shaun just wanted to be part of something and have a
group of friends to hang out with, and his transformation into a skinhead made this possible. Shane
Meadows goes in further details in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in the middle of the movie, a new character joins the narration, an ex convict man called
Combo. Combo promoted to stand up for English s roots and for him jobs are taken away from
Englishman and given to immigrants who don t deserve them. So he established a racist and
aggressive skinhead gang that caused a lot of problems in the town. Shaun decides to join Combo s
gang because he wanted to make his father proud that was killed in the Flanklands war, and this can be
deduced by Combo when he said: and you want your dad s life to mean something. Don t you...
Although, I don t think that making his father proud was the only reason. In fact, in Shaun s life there
has been a lack of a father figure, which he suffered from, and so when he meets Combo, and he tells
him that he is going to take care of him, Shaun decided to take him as a role model to follow. As a
result Combo becomes the father figure in his life and decided to follow his nationalism idea. Combo
taught Shaun to be violent and racist against non English people because according to Combo they
were inferior and bad for the community. Furthermore, Shaun with Combo s gang participates to a
meeting hosted by right winged National Front, which actively promoted ethnic

Mma Takedowns
Five Basic MMA Takedowns that Work
One of the most important aspects of a successful MMA toolkit is a fighter s mastery of takedown
techniques. And just like every other part of mixed martial arts, the takedown game is an evolving
one, with fighters continually refining and expanding upon basic techniques. That said, by some
estimates more than eighty percent of all takedowns that occur in MMA utilize just five basic
techniques: the double leg, the single leg, the outside trip, the bodylock and the suplex. We present
those techniques here, in order of popularity, and with brief explanations of each.
1 The Double Leg Takedown
The double leg takedown is the most commonly used take down in traditional wrestling and is also the
most popular in mixed martial arts. In fact, by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While in a clutch the opportunity to trip one the opponents legs from the outside, forcing them off
balance and to the mat will often come up without much forethought.
4 The Body Lock
There are many variations to the body lock, some of which employ an outside or inside leg trip. The
move is typically executed by wrapping the opponents body up in a hold, lifting them off or both of
their feet and slamming them to the mat. It can be highly effective either with or without a trip added.
5 The Suplex
Generally associated with professional wrestling, the suplex is actually quite commonly employed in
traditional and Greco roman wrestling. You can employ the suplex in a variety of ways and from a
variety of holds and positions, including wrapping your opponent up from behind, lifting them off the
mat and slamming them down.
All Takedowns Require Practice and Technique
Like all other aspects of MMA, takedowns require practice and a solid understanding of technique to
execute properly. They all have their strengths, weaknesses, and potential for setup and effective

Clean Water Pollution
a. There is pollution in major bodies of water in Iowa due to runoff from farms. This runoff makes its
way through rivers and streams to eventually reach the Gulf of Mexico. Runoff is a major issue in
Buena Vista, a county in Iowa, because it s water has been so badly polluted. Raccoon River was so
badly polluted that the Des Moines Water Works filed a federal lawsuit against them. Buena Vista
county decided to hire multiple law groups to handle the lawsuit. This came with the question as to
who was funding these law groups as they were being paid by a group of donators. Eventually the
county had to clean the Raccoon River and the question was posed of how to limit the amount of
nitrogen pollution caused by the runoff from Raccoon River. It was estimated to cost $16 billion to
clean the river which wasn t economically logical.
b. There is a large account that is funded by the Farm Bureau and many commodity groups which
pays lawyers from the Crowell and Morning Law group as well as a group of lawyers in Washington,
D.C. to keep Iowa from being potentially billed $100 million dollars in damages due to violation of
the Clean Water Act. Art Collen, the author of the article, attempted the best he could to get to the
bottom of who was funding the Farm Bureau. However, he couldn t get information from anyone as to
who was funding it. This information should be available to the public and is illegal to hide. Still the
information was being withheld from him. Collen assumes that

Documentation In Childcare
baxterchildcare.com.au Developmental Records and Child Progress Reports: Why Are These
Important in A Child Day Care?
Educators even in a childcare centre must keep developmental records and child progress reports in
order to bring out the best in the children in their care daily. They need this documentation for a
number of reasons that range from evaluating the efficiency of the centre s teaching methods to
sharing detailed information with the parents about the progress of their children. A childcare centre
should make record keeping an integral part of its routine to ensure that all documentation is up to
date.
What Information Should Be in This Documentation

We say tricky since not all children progress at the same rate and at times, some parents become upset
at the thought that their children are behind in development. A skilled educator will be able to allay the
fears of these parents through showing the proper documentation and guide them on how to help their
children through the difficulties they may have in the developmental process.
Evaluating Teaching Methods
When educators in a childcare centre can examine their written documentation on each child, they are
able to realize which methods and programs are a success and the ones that need improvement.
Through this, the centre can offer the best possible programs and teaching methods to fit their children
s needs and circumstances. Without proper record keeping, the centre would have no way to re
examine its actions.
Childcare Centres, Parents and Children Benefit From Documentation
When childcare centres make the appropriate entries into children s developmental records and
progress reports, all parties benefit from this effort. Childcare centres can continually improve their
operations. Parents receive accurate updates on their children s progress. Children receive the best
care and training possible from the educators at the

Human Gait Essay
Abstract ABSTRACT One of the main goals of computer vision research is to develop methods for
recognition of objects and events. A subclass of these problems is the recognition of humans and their
activities. Recognition of humans from arbitrary viewpoints is an important requirement for different
applications such as intelligent environments, surveillance and access control. Human gait is an
attractive modality for recognizing people at a distance. Human gait is a spatio temporal phenomenon
that characterizes the motion characteristics of an individual. There is an increased interest in gait as a
biometric, mainly due to its nonintrusive as well as non concealable nature. It is possible to detect and
measure gait even in low ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The goal of gait recognition research is to determine how that information can be extracted from
images. The fact that each person seems to have a distinctive (idiosyncratic) way of walking is hardly
surprising from a biomechanics standpoint. Human ambulation consists of synchronized integrated
movements of hundreds of muscles and joints in the body. Although these movements follow the same
basic pattern for all humans, they seem to vary from one individual to another in certain details such
as their relative timing and magnitudes. Much research in biomechanics and clinical gait analysis
(among others) is devoted to the study of the inter person and intra person variability of gait (albeit not
for the purpose of recognition, but rather to determine normal vs. pathological ranges of 3
Introduction variation). The major sources of inter person variability are attributed to physical
makeup, such as body mass and lengths of limbs, while the sources for intra person variability are
things like walking surface, footwear, mood and fatigue. Nonetheless, the gait of any one individual is
known to be fairly repeatable when walking under the same conditions. This intra person consistency
and inter person variability are what makes gait suitable (desirable) for use as a biometric. In this
proposal, we present a gait recognition technique which takes a motionbased recognition approach,
and use correspondence free

Analysis Of The Last Duchess Of Ferrara
The Last Duchess of Ferrara was the Duke s ex wife. She was a woman of compassion, modesty, and
she loved the simple things of life. In contrast, the Duke was an arrogant, possessive, jealous and
controlling person. In the dramatic lyric, My Last Duchess by Robert Browning, the Duke becomes
carried away with talking about a painting of his Last Duchess by Fra Pandolf. He reveals to the
Counts envoy that he gave the command to kill his wife, because he could not express to her how he
felt about the way she acted towards other men. Browning uses dramatic monologue, rhyme couplets,
enjambment, and stanza in My Last Duchess to reveal the controlling thoughts of a jealous,
controlling, and arrogant Duke who killed his wife. The Duke reveals to the representative of the
Count that his wife treated all men the same when she should place him above everyone else. His
jealousy leads him to be paranoid, and accused her of having an affair. Brown developed the form of
dramatic monologue, and he puts words in the mouths of characters who were conspicuously nasty,
weak, reckless, or crazy. For example, the Duke of Ferrara exposes his psychological state of
paranoia, jealousy, desire of power, and arrogance as he talks to the envoy of the Count whose
daughter he intends to marry about the last Duchess portrait. the Duke says, That s my last Duchess
painted on the wall, looking as if she were alive. I call That piece a wonder, now (Kennedy Gioia,
Literature: An Introduction to Fiction, Poetry, Drama, and Writing, 2016, p.35). The Duke is
addressing an audience thought the poem, but the listener never responds to his questions. The type of
structure Browning uses are rhyme couplets, long stanza, and enjambment to show the Duke s control
and lack of control of his thoughts. Rhyme couplets have two lines, and each line is about the same
length. In a couplet, each line of a couplet ends with a word that rhymes with the previous or next line.
The poem will have similar words in the stanza. A rhyme scheme is recurrent pattern of rime within an
individual poem or fixed form. A rime scheme is usually described by using small letters to stand for
each end rhyme (Kennedy Gioia, Literature: An Introduction to

  • 2. Robert Graves’ I, Claudius Robert Graves I, Claudius Capturing a Strange Moment in History Tiberius reign over the Roman Empire stretched the longest of any emperor during Claudius lifetime. This may be a good reason why Robert Graves, in his historical novel published in 1934, I, Claudius devoted more than a third of it to the reign of Tiberius. I, Claudius , told through the eyes of the half wit Claudius, records the history of the first Imperial family at Rome, including the reigns of Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, and even Claudius himself. Livia, Augustus wife and Tiberius mother, played a crucial role throughout the reign of Augustus and Tiberius by eliminating all possible heirs other than her son to the throne of the emperor. By the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He once said, Let them hate me, so long as they obey me (Graves 38). By this time Livia had already eliminated Marcellus, Augustus first preference as his successor. Tiberius could not be totally blamed for his fortunes. As Claudius states: He was in an unhappy position, forced against his will to be continually in the public eye, now as general in some frontier campaign, now as Consul at Rome, now as special commissioner to the provinces; when all he wanted was a long rest and privacy....Moreover, with the dignity of the Imperial family to maintain and Livia continually spying on him, he had to be very careful of his private morals. He had few friends, being, as I think I have said, of a suspicious, jealous, reserved and melancholy temperament, and those rather hangers on than friends, whom he treated with the cynical contempt that they deserved. (66) After Augustus died, however, Tiberius became emperor. The Senate, knowing very well that to even attempt to return to the republican form of government would be a futile effort, one by one voted him all of the honors that Augustus had received. But Tiberius never used the name Augustus, except when writing letters to foreign kings. He feared his mother Livia, partially because Livia constantly reminded him that if her crimes were uncovered, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Positive And Negative Impacts Of Daily Moods Hypothesis In their study, Yao Zheng, Robert Plomin, and Sophie von Stumm measured the positive and negative affect, or essentially one s mood over time; the three professors postulated that daily moods can be affected by both nature and nurture, with a degree of separation between positive and negative. To test their hypothesis, they conducted twin studies through a daily, 10 item online questionnaire over the course of one month (30 days). Twins were chosen through an earlier Twins Early Development Study (TEDS) conducted by Plomin and others, who had previously affirmed the status of the twins and had sufficient prior data on the sample subjects. The results, after some correction, were separated based on sex and degree of relation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The official start of the study took place over a 1 week period when participants were instructed to begin daily surveying; any who failed to do so during the time limit was excluded from any data analysis. Those whose first language was any other than English, and those with significant medical conditions preventing reliable reporting were excluded as well. For 40 days twins completed the online survey after school, a time period considered to be from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m., at about the same time each day. As a final precaution against spurious findings, only those who answered the survey for 30+ days with genuine answers were considered in the final analyses. 15,000 total questionnaires were gathered from these efforts (Zheng et al, 2016, 1612 1613). Positive and negative affects results were quarantined for computation, which began with simple mean and standard deviation calculations for the sample. The results were used to create a score for specific means and deviations for each participant. A standard twin model ACE , which decompose[s] the variance of a trait into additive genetic, shared environmental and non shared environmental components, was the basis of most following correlational measurements (Purcell, 2007). The program OpenMx was used to model: structural equations at 95 percent confidence intervals, goodness of fit at negative 2 times the log likelihood, and chi square tests to ... • 4. The Electronic Medical Record ( Emr ) Is It Really Secure Educational to the hospital RN s and LVN s teaching how to be safe with EMR s. The Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is it really secured? The Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is a secure source of information that give clinicians real time access to a variety of patient health information, such as patient history, billing or insurance data, allergies, immunizations, medications, orders, laboratory tests, diagnostic results, and images. Such technology has enormous potential to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of health care through decreased medical errors, increased preventative care and enhanced detection and treatment (Fiato, K. A., 2012). With the rapid development of information technology, EMR is likely to have medical records disclosure issues. Some international medical records leakage happens recently. In USA 2011, there is a leakage about hospitalized Hawkeye football players. In Philippines 2009, president Arroyo is leaked information on her breast medical checkup. In Taiwan, artist Selina, due to severe burns in 2010, came news that physicians of other subjects are free to browse the medical records used his position in the medical records privilege. Such well known facts reflect that EMR document divulgation is overflowing and can cause serious damages. Thus the management security of EMR documents catches highly attention in these few years and it induces the development of teaching nurses on how to provide safe care using EMR s. • 5. All I Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten By Robert... All I really need to know I learned in kindergarten All I really need to know I learned in kindergarten is a short essay by Robert Fulghum explaining in detail everything we learned in kindergarten and how it is all we really need to know in life. The text by Robert Fulghum explains the human flaw of getting so caught up in finding meaning and purpose to life, that we do not recognize that all we need for a successful life has already been taught to us, in kindergarten. This meaning is demonstrated throughout the text by the use of, imagery, tone, and structure. Kindergarten, a time of happiness, and peaceful frolicking fun. While for many kindergarten is long in the past, the most crucial images and memories from the time will never ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The essay is written, for the majority of it, in such a way that it is simple enough for a kindergartener to read and understand. Important text is bolded in the very first paragraph as the author want us to know right away what he is trying to tell us. In kindergarten we were exposed to lists, so instead of writing out everything we learned in a long confusing paragraph, Robert Fulghum creates us a list. It is almost as though he wants us to feel like we are kindergarteners again, as we read text written in a childish manner even full of grammar mistakes like learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some . However, as we get to the part of the essay explaining how we can apply these simple lessons into our adult lives, the grammar becomes formal and uses fancy words such as extrapolate to give the text a new meaning, a more professional mature meaning. To connect these two very different aspects of our lives, the childish one, and the adult one, the author creatively manipulates us into believing what he is saying. Without this detailed use of structure the text would not seem as convincing nor as pertinent. If the text explaining kindergarten morals, was written formally it would not seem as important as to us, it may seem below our adult ways of life . Contrary to that if the part explaining how these rules could help our families, friends, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Diabetes Is A Group Of Metabolic Diseases Diabetes in African American Populations Melanie Barber, MSN Student MPH 855 Principles of Epidemiology Department of Baccalaureate Graduate Nursing, Eastern Kentucky University Richmond, KY November 21, 2016 According to the American Diabetes Association, diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. The chronic hyperglycemia associated with diabetes results in failure of various organs including eyes, kidneys, heart, and blood vessels (American Diabetes Association, 2016). Possible complications of diabetes include heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, leg amputation, vision loss, nerve damage, and premature death (World Health Organization, 2016). The databases for the Centers for Disease Control and Protection, World Health Organization, National Institute of Health, National Vital Statistics Survey, and Kentucky Data Warehouse and Kentucky Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System were reviewed for datasets and information for diabetes mellitus. Globally, an estimated 422 million adults were living with diabetes in 2014. The prevalence of diabetes has nearly doubled since 1980, rising from 4.7% to 8.5% in adult population. In the past ten years, diabetes prevalence has risen faster in low and middle income countries in comparison to high income countries. • 8. Morphine The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) ID of morphine is (5α,6α) 7,8 didehydro 4,5 epoxy 17 methylmorphinan 3,6 diol. The general formula for Morphine is C17H19NO3 and it is recognized as a benzylisoquinoline alkaloid with two additional rings attached to complete the overall structure. As shown in Figure 2, morphine is a five member ring system that acts as a backbone for the structure. This includes a benzene ring (A), two cyclohexane rings (B and C), the piperidine ring (D), and tetrahydrofuran ring (E). It seems that due this type of configuration, the compound proved to be slightly flexible because of the phenantherene ring system (A,B, and C)[6]. Furthermore, several functional groups exist in the morphine structural configuration. For instance, the ether linkage between C4 and C5, the 3o amine group adjacent to C16, hydroxyl groups located on C3 (ph3nolic alcohol) and C6 (allylic alcohol), and the unsaturated double bond between C7 and C8. Further examination and extensive studies show that the pharmaceutical active structure is ( ) Morphine[6]. The essential difference between these two structures is the placement of the piperidine ring (D) between the C9 or C10 and C12 and C13. John s Quest For Identity In The Awakening The plot takes place within the time span of twenty four hours, beginning with the protagonist, John s awakening on his fourteenth birthday to his religious conversion that evening. The story woven around a sensitive young boy, whose quest is for identity, begins on the morning of his fourteenth birthday, when he realizes that he should do something different from what his father expects him to do because he has been told that he should become a preacher when he grew up, following his father s footstep. This is obvious from the very first line of the novel: Everyone had always said that John would be a preacher when he grew up, just like his father. Gabriel makes it his mission to use his elevated status to preach redemption to the wayward. He distresses that these sinners had all turned aside, and gone out in to the wilderness, to fall down before idols of gold and silver, and wood and stone, false gods that could not heal them (Baldwin, 136). Ironically, Gabriel responds to this by establishing himself as the unassailable representation of righteousness, working in many ways to make a false god of himself. This desire to serve as a savior influences Gabriel s preaching career and continues to influence his personal life, even after the death of first wife Deborah. Gabriel s clearest memories of Elizabeth recall how one night after he had preached, the young unwed mother had walked this long aisle to the altar, to repent before God her sin (Baldwin, 149). After pursuing the much younger woman, he proposes marriage, confessing to her that he believes they would be fulfilling the mandate of the Lord. Continuing the image of himself as the rescuer of fallen women, his proposal is thoroughly framed within the language of redemption. He suggests to Elizabeth: maybe I can keep you from making ... some of my mistakes, bless the Lord...maybe I can help keep your foot from stumbling ... again ... girl ... • 10. Black Americans And The Black Freedom Struggle Many have thought that the end of the civil war was also the end of the suppression against Black Americans. However, real freedom hasn t been present to them. Discriminations against Black Americans were transformed and still exist in other aspects. The life of a Black American was planned before he or she was born, not much freedom in their hands. Black American experience disadvantage and discrimination in many different institutions that all prove the existence of Neocolonialism. From housing to education, formal and informal social controls prevented them from equality and freedom. Moreover, Black youth was forced to be in the pipeline of incarceration from school, because of the lack of resources and attention to them. In this ongoing fight for Black Freedom, many influential Black leaders stepped up. One of them is one of the most important figures in the Black freedom struggle history, Ella Baker. This essay will first, explain key issues on Black Americans freedom in housing and school to prison pipeline, then identify Ella Baker s theory in the Black Freedom Struggle, and finally define what freedom means. It s the American dream to own a house with beautiful white fences and yard and live joyfully with families, but not many Black Americans can live up to that dream. The hate and prejudice against Black American didn t reduce much since the end of the civil war. I m not prejudice, but I d burn this building down before I d sell it to any damned nigger. ... • 11. The Issue Of Equal Pay For Equal Work The issue of equal pay for equal work performed by women; is a political hot button in the 2016 presidential campaign. So much so that the stump speeches, for both former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, and senator, Bernie Sanders, always include this issue. Since the 1960s, congress and many researchers have tested this theory. In order to affirm the validity of this message, we will perform a five step hypothesis test. In the book, Statistical Techniques in Business Economics, authors D. Lind, W. Marchal S. Wathen (2012), describe how to conduct this test of hypothesis. We seek to determine if two sampled populations, females and males, have the same mean (arithmetic average) wages. The process begins with only the raw data from a 2005 wages database. As a result, the authors further explain: The method described does not require that we know the standard deviations of the populations (2012). For that reason, we assume the sampled populations are equal, but, the standard deviations are unknown. Then, we use the t test as the test statistic, with 30 degrees of freedom. Problem Statement In an online article entitled The Simple Truth About the Gender Pay Gap , published on the AAUW website, author Catherine Hill, PhD, had this to say: Did you know that in 2014, women working full time in the United States typically were paid just 79 percent of what men were paid, a gap of 21 percent? The gap has narrowed since the 1970s, due largely to women s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Ralph Nader’s Life Lesson in The Seventeen Traditions Ralph Nader s book, The Seventeen Traditions, discusses several traditions, seventeen in total, which the author learned from his parents, siblings, and other individuals in the community and draws certain inspiring life lessons for the current society. The book is genially human and full of sensory chronicles. Through the key traditions outlined in the book, Nader looks back at his Lebanese background and childhood experiences that directly shaped his worldview. This review analyses some of the most significant traditions in the book such as family table, independent thinking, health, and business. These key traditions will also be vital in discussing the strengths and weaknesses of the book. Nader s book has really achieved its principal purpose, which is to educate the society on some of the values and traditions that are vital in shaping a person s life. Through his key seventeen traditions, the author has succeeded in creating a modern day fable on how one can grow from a child to a responsible and successful adult. Nader s tradition of the family table proves to be the most significant base in a child s education. The duplicitous nature of shadow and light in a La Tour painting could be seen as a metaphor for the good and bad contained within human nature. It is also vague enough to be open to multiple interpretations. In any interpretation this duality is almost given more importance than the subject matter. The personality of Nicolas Poussin was contrary to La Tour, though both were very rational and humanistic. Poussin sought to enter into the person of his subject, to become immersed in psychological analysis. He combines his love of virtue and his love of landscape by placing tragic figures in richly interesting and complexly constructed, heroic landscapes. He produced some of the most demanding, yet satisfying landscape paintings in western culture. Social media is commonly used in today s society. Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter have taken over, building a community with many active users. • 32. Prozac ( Fluoxetine ) And Suicide PROZAC (FLUOXETINE) AND SUICIDE What are the risks? Since the early 20th century millions of people have suffered with some form of depression, which is categorized as either Major Depression, Clinical Depression or Major Depressive Disorder. However it s categorized, the symptoms include severe sadness, inability to cope with day to day issues, and a general lack of interest in family, friends and/or life in general. Over the years that astounding number has been both a boon to the economy and a ray of hope for sufferers in the form of antidepressants. One of the first medications introduced as a treatment in the United States in 1998, was Prozac (Fluoxetine), which is an SSRIs or Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor, which works to balance out the feelings of pleasure and emotions, which is why it was dubbed the Happy Pill . It was widely touted to be the solution for the masses, however for many who suffered with severe depression, it was not such a ray of hope. Prozac soon became associated with aggression and suicidal tendencies by the media. This paper will support the evidence that Prozac, while very effective for mild depressive symptoms is linked to aggression and suicide in both adult and minors who suffer from major depression. Uc Davis Rhetoric Presence Summary Rhetoric Awareness Among Scientists: an ethnographic study describing the language used in the Center for Neuroscience at UC Davis Synopsis The Center for Neuroscience (CN) is a complex, large community that sparked my interest to do an ethnographic endeavor. This group provides benefits to our society by conducting modern neurobiology research and coaching future neurobiologists. The purpose of this ethnographic study is to have a better understanding of how this discourse community functions as an entity. My study will focus on the methods that the CN uses to communicate. As a member of the CN, I want to take a step back and explore, from the perspective of an outsider, the rhetoric mechanisms that make their goals achievable. It is a radiographic procedure that is used to look at and visualize the heart and the coronary arteries. During a cardiac catheterization it is possible for the cardiologist performing the procedure to see how effectively blood is flowing through the coronary arteries. In addition, this procedure allows the cardiologists to see how blood is moving through the chambers of the heart and how effective the heart valves are functioning. A cardiac catheterization can also allow for the visualization of the movement of the walls of the heart to see if the pumping action of the heart is normal. This is a procedure that has a cardiologist using a cutting blade that spins rapidly or a laser beam to cut away or burn away plaque that is blocking a branch of the coronary arteries. To perform a cardiac catheterization the patient is brought to the cardiac catheterization lab. These procedures are performed by specially trained cardiologists, nurses and radiologic technologists. The procedure is performed on a specialized table with fluoroscopy equipment, cardiac monitoring equipment, and the use of computerized technology to assist in data and image collection and analysis. To perform a cardiac catheterization the cardiologist will insert a sheath, or a short tube usually into the femoral artery. A long very thin catheter will then be fed through the sheath and guided through the arteries until it is in the heart and coronary arteries. The physician uses fluoroscopy equipment to guide the catheter into the coronary arteries. To allow for clear viewing of the coronary arteries, contrast material is injected into the catheter. As the contrast material flows through the heart chambers and coronary arteries x rays are taken. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. The Doctrine Of Free Trade Historically, Republican Presidents have often been considered to be wholeheartedly dedicated to the doctrine of free trade, with the common consensus being that Republican Presidents have championed laissez faire foreign commerce since the end of the Second World War (Batra, 1996, p1). Consequently the idea of protectionism under Republican governments has too often been reflexively denounced by US trade analysts. The purpose of this section is to explicate how even under supposedly neoliberal Republicans such as Reagan, Bush JR and Nixon, domestic pressures have dictated that US Governments compromise their commitment to free trade. Such domestic pressures essentially stem from industries that are relatively uncompetitive; in that they tend to struggle to compete with foreign manufacturers and politically sensitive; in that they have substantial voting power and representation in Congress. This juxtaposition of a lack of competitiveness and political sensitivity has on a number of occasions proven to be sufficient in forcing committed free traders into invoking protectionist policies. The ultimate consequence of these pressures for both the Republicans and Obama has been defensive protectionism , which as previously mentioned provides ad hoc import relief for specific industries on a case by case basis. This section will thus tackle two key myths with regards to US trade politics: firstly the notion that Obama s protectionism represents a new trade policy in the US ... A subclass of these problems is the recognition of humans and their activities. Recognition of humans from arbitrary viewpoints is an important requirement for different applications such as intelligent environments, surveillance and access control. Human gait is an attractive modality for recognizing people at a distance. Human gait is a spatio temporal phenomenon that characterizes the motion characteristics of an individual. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The goal of gait recognition research is to determine how that information can be extracted from images. The fact that each person seems to have a distinctive (idiosyncratic) way of walking is hardly surprising from a biomechanics standpoint. Human ambulation consists of synchronized integrated movements of hundreds of muscles and joints in the body. Although these movements follow the same basic pattern for all humans, they seem to vary from one individual to another in certain details such as their relative timing and magnitudes. Much research in biomechanics and clinical gait analysis (among others) is devoted to the study of the inter person and intra person variability of gait (albeit not for the purpose of recognition, but rather to determine normal vs. pathological ranges of 3 Introduction variation). The major sources of inter person variability are attributed to physical makeup, such as body mass and lengths of limbs, while the sources for intra person variability are things like walking surface, footwear, mood and fatigue. Nonetheless, the gait of any one individual is known to be fairly repeatable when walking under the same conditions. This intra person consistency and inter person variability are what makes gait suitable (desirable) for use as a biometric. • 48. Analysis Of The Last Duchess Of Ferrara The Last Duchess of Ferrara was the Duke s ex wife. She was a woman of compassion, modesty, and she loved the simple things of life. In contrast, the Duke was an arrogant, possessive, jealous and controlling person. In the dramatic lyric, My Last Duchess by Robert Browning, the Duke becomes carried away with talking about a painting of his Last Duchess by Fra Pandolf. He reveals to the Counts envoy that he gave the command to kill his wife, because he could not express to her how he felt about the way she acted towards other men. Browning uses dramatic monologue, rhyme couplets, enjambment, and stanza in My Last Duchess to reveal the controlling thoughts of a jealous, controlling, and arrogant Duke who killed his wife. The Duke reveals to the representative of the Count that his wife treated all men the same when she should place him above everyone else. His jealousy leads him to be paranoid, and accused her of having an affair. Brown developed the form of dramatic monologue, and he puts words in the mouths of characters who were conspicuously nasty, weak, reckless, or crazy. For example, the Duke of Ferrara exposes his psychological state of paranoia, jealousy, desire of power, and arrogance as he talks to the envoy of the Count whose daughter he intends to marry about the last Duchess portrait. the Duke says, That s my last Duchess painted on the wall, looking as if she were alive. I call That piece a wonder, now (Kennedy Gioia, Literature: An Introduction to Fiction, Poetry, Drama, and Writing, 2016, p.35). The Duke is addressing an audience thought the poem, but the listener never responds to his questions. The type of structure Browning uses are rhyme couplets, long stanza, and enjambment to show the Duke s control and lack of control of his thoughts. Rhyme couplets have two lines, and each line is about the same length. In a couplet, each line of a couplet ends with a word that rhymes with the previous or next line.
